For PP care (uncomplicated vaginal birth, 1st degree tear) I used Depends Adult Diapers (maybe 20? Had a few left over), Dermoplast (the blue can!!!), Tucks Pads, and made padsicles (20ish) before hand (extra large maxi pads, alo vera gel, alcohol free witch hazel, a spattering of tea tree oil, pop in freezer). Hands down would recommend. My hospital didn't send me home with any supplies so I'm glad I went ahead and got some "just in case" items before hand. The adult diapers were pretty much like wearing comfy granny panties, not at all "diaper feeling" like I thought they'd be, and I could pop a padsicle in every few hours easy peasy without worrying about ruining underpants or leaking everywhere. Once the Depends needed to be changed out I'd just trash the whole thing and start fresh. No clean up - 10/10.

Pricing everything out I've listed (lazily) on Amazon my "kit" would be around $80, but you can find these things for much cheaper in CVS or your local drug store. Looking at the quantities included in your kit I'm thinking you'd have to buy additional products anyway (more pads for sure, more briefs most likely, and I'm not sure how easy it is to clean the compresses but the padsicles are awesome and disposable, major plus in my book). I'm not sure it's as great a kit as it looks at first glance.

ETA - I didn't need these for PP care but I do love having chux for the kiddo. I have a few in the diaper bag and lay them on nasty public changing tables before I lay down his changing pad for an extra layer of protection (and so I don't drag a dirty pad back into the diaper bag).

> If you have hemorrhoids that have been around forever and only very rarely bleed or cause problems is it okay to engage in anal stimulation or even penetration?

For exterior anal stimulation that is done gently, you shouldn't have too much problem depending on how bad the hemorrhoids are, and whether they are external. For anal penetration of any sort, I would think you or your partner would have to be very, very gentle in addition to waiting for you to relax and comfortably accommodate whatever is inserted in your anus (start small like with one finger, and work up to larger insertions over time as you are comfortable). And that your sense of pain or discomfort would be very important to pay attention to, which is typical of anyone receiving anal penetration anyways (absolutely no lube that has numbing agents in it!), and thusly tell your partner to stop and slowly remove what is in you if you experience that. Your partner should also probably keep an eye out for blood in case in case this happens and you don't notice any discomfort.

> Will it cause them to worsen?

I'm not a doctor, so this is not professional medical advice. Although I'm not sure that doctors necessarily know the answer to this either, as they probably don't get trained in what anal play does to the health of the anus, rectum, and hemorrhoids. But I'm willing to be proved wrong. I would think that as long as the hemorrhoids are not irritated, or ruptured, you will probably be alright. In my own experience, anal play on myself has actually caused a very minor internal hemorrhoid to go away. (I'll come back to this later)

> Do they ever "go away"?

They can. There are two approaches, but keep in mind that they can come back if you do not take preventative measures 1 and 2 which may require lifestyle changes for you.

Here's the options for western medical treatment.

And here's the options I'm aware of for alternative treatments 1 and 2.

In my own experience, my use of Aneros prostate massagers and possibly dildos helped a minor hemorrhoid go away. My understanding is that the involuntary anal contractions that the Aneros prostate massagers cause, which the the High Island Peristal is also based upon by having a tapered and thusly unbalanced stem, help strengthen those muscles and also increases blood flow which can make hemorrhoids go away. Read through the links on the left hand side of the Peristal web page and also read through their forum. (High Island is the parent company of Aneros. High Island markets their products for health benefits, Aneros for sexual pleasure.)

> Is this a turn off to most people or not a huge deal?

For me it's not a problem. The partner I care for deeply about that would want this I totally would do so and not be bothered by her hemorrhoids as I want to give her as much sexual pleasure as she would like. But I think what you are really asking is will your own partner, or any new potential partners want to do this with you. That is something you will have to talk with them about and tell them what your physical condition is in regard to having hemorrhoids. Some may be fine with it, others not. You won't know until you communicate your desires.

Edit: Also see this post which applies to either gender receiving anal play of any sort.

Also, this is going to look like the dumbest waste of money, but I found it beneficial in the months post-labor (when my hemmies were the worst): Forces of Nature Fissure Control

Even though it says fissure, it also contains nature-based elements that help reduce swelling and make things feel better. Bonus: it smells really nice.

It lasts a good while, as long as you don't knock it over like me...

u/Mmedical · 2 pointsr/AskDocs

Hemorrhoids are extremely common for young and old. Your symptoms are quite typical. The photo you provided is typical for mild external hemorrhoids. Anal fissures are doubtful, despite the small amount of blood with wiping. I would not be too embarrassed by the condition, it is very, very common - and probably not even noticed by an untrained eye. Here is a rendering giving you an idea of what exactly these are. BTW, those blue and purple items in the rendering are veins.

You can treat these by applying Anusol. It appears this product does not have hydrocortisone, but you could also buy some topical cream at a local pharmacy and apply it too. Apply it after a shower or bath and before bedtime. You can reapply after having a bowel movement as well. It should take care of symptoms within a day or so.

In the future, be sure to eat plenty of fiber. Even consider adding fiber via a supplement like Metamucil. If you are not straining, then the likelihood of the hemorrhoids flaring is reduced.

Good luck.

u/aeb949 · 1 pointr/PregnancyAfterLoss

Congratulations!! But I’m sorry to hear you had such a rough time of things. Thank goodness you didn’t have anything serious going on with your heart or lungs! (Interestingly, I also felt like my hearing was off for several hours during and after labor. 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Take good care of yourself with that tear! My 2nd degree tear was no walk in the park, so I can only imagine what your recovery will be like. Sorry if I missed this in your post, but have you done a sitz bath yet? I wish I’d done one sooner—I felt like it really helped. I also invested in this sitz bath tea (I would add a bit of this and ~2 tbsp kosher salt to the water), which was very worth it imo.

u/yuripower · 3 pointsr/ibs

Not sure about using laxatives, but psyllium husk definitely helps. Yes it adds bulk, but it's soft bulk. I guess it's the difference between a small hard stool and a large soft one. By far the most helpful thing has been anusol, you have to order it from the uk, but it has been a lifesaver.

u/vaderisahottie · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Yay! :-) Lol!!!

How are you today? Are you going hunting? Haha

If not maybe you would like some relaxing music. Lol...

Not saying you need this, but just in case. ;-)

And last but not least, to cover up that unwanted grey

Thank you for the contest, this was entertaining.

u/notthatbigbrother · 2 pointsr/AnalFissures

I am not a doctor, just a patient.

Stay hydrated. Figure out why you are straining and start making changes to your diet as soon as possible. Not enough fiber? Get some psyllium husk tablets. Hard stool? Colace(stool softener) I recommend both. It is extremely important to stay hydrated. Dehydration while on any of those will make bowel movements worse. Try to take a shower after every bowel movement, but avoid soap. You do not want to make the same mistake as me and let your skin dry out. If you do use soap I recommend vaseline or a&d ointment after a wash. Cold water may feel relaxing and numb the pain, but remember to do warm water sitz baths as well. The key to healing is increasing blood flow. The blood flow is low in the rectum so healing can take quite some time. Despite how much blood you might see after a bowel movement. Applying heat will increase blood flow. Unfortunately for you the pain from the fissure comes from your sphincter spasming and it will be hard to stop that without prescription medication. You might have some success with lidocaine, but that can be costly(see Dr. Butlers cream). Over the counter pain medicine will help as well. Avoid opioids(can cause constipation). True pain relief comes with the nitroglycerin ointment. Which also increases blood flow to the area and relaxes the muscle. Yes get the baby wipes, but I would avoid the neosporin and get the dr. butlers cream while you wait for an appointment to get the nitroglycerin. I highly recommend getting the nitro. Also look into lifting your legs while on the toilet into a squatting position. Don't wait on getting treatment for this. Although not life threatening if you wait and it gets worse you will regret it, trust me. Make an appointment to see a doctor/specialist if you can afford it. Maybe look into fasting for a day or two, or even intermittent fasting. Give your fissure some time to start healing before irritating it again with another bowel movement. You can't stop pooping, but you can limit how much you do it. If you do fast do some research on keeping your electrolytes in check. Like I said you do not want to become dehydrated. Good luck and stay hydrated!

I had lots of tears and stitches. Yours sounds worse than mine, though!

  • I took the painkillers they gave me exactly as scheduled. The minute I could take a new one, I did, even if I was feeling all right because it would catch up to me otherwise.

  • The peri bottle was my best friend.

  • I took at least one sitz bath per day, but I was advised not to use epsom slats by my nurse.

  • I made frozen pads then lined them a couple of TUCKS Medicated Cooling Pads which seemed to help a lot.

  • I lay down when I wasn’t feeling great.
u/omgwtfnow · 1 pointr/InfertilityBabies

I messed with the breast pump, it was daunting at first but easier than I thought it would be! Car seat and stroller are out of boxes and assembled, that's all I got 🤣. I need to get the padcicles from Amazon. They're already prepared for you, just need to freeze!

I suffered from these buggers, in my previous pregnancy as well as this one.
Let me introduce you to 2 lifesaving items I used in previous pregnancy and just ordered for this one:

u/plum_awe · 2 pointsr/Cancersupportgroup

I haven’t started chemo yet so I can’t 100% promise any of my suggestions will work for this particular type of itching, but here are a few ideas.

  • Sarna - anti-itch lotion for delicate skin. I have VERY sensitive skin and I can use this stuff anywhere.

  • Dr. Butler’s wipes. Very soothing wipes.

  • Hemmorwedge Ice Packs. These are ice packs shaped for use around the anus. Ice will decrease inflammation as well as slightly numb the area.

Even though these are all over the counter remedies, as always, please be sure to check with medical professionals if there are any side effects or unexpected reactions to anything.

So sorry you are dealing with this. I find these to be incredibly painful. This cream has been a godsend to me. It’s hard to find in stores, but available online. Name is Tranolane, and can be used for other skin issues since it has no odor.

I see my OB next week & will ask him if it's ok to use (it has lidocaine in it). Got great reviews on Amazon though.

These are awesome. I often will take a tucks wipe and fold it around it. Perfect size, makes for simple clean up, and I like to think the ice and witch hazel do more together than not to shrink the bastard!

u/BornOnFeb2nd · 3 pointsr/needadvice

Generally the process goes like this...

  1. Whomever OPENs the position (sometimes called "the req")
  2. You apply for the position
  3. You're offered the position
  4. You're hired.

Generally, the bureaucracy tends to make step 1 take the longest... if you're already working there, step 2 should be a formality.

If they haven't given you something in writing yet, specifying your start date and wage, then you have not been offered a job.

You've been "wink, wink, nudge, nudge "promised" " a job.

That and a couple of bucks will buy you a mundane coffee.

It could be that they are consciously taking advantage of you... I mean, if you're already doing the work for X, why should THEY be in a hurry to suddenly start paying you Y?

However, I doubt that. That implies "conspiracy", and bureaucracies are bad at any form of coordinated effort. ;)

You've got eight months of experience, start looking for another position. Don't accept an offer after you give them notice, because then you'll be branded the "the guy who was leaving". If they make an written offer when they find out that you're interviewing, that's different though.

Here's why the written bit is so important. Working at [Big Company] I was making X, the position making X was going away. They wanted me to transition to a new position. I told them sure, but only if they'd pay me Y. They could not pay me Y immediately, but "would take care of me". I declined. Interviewed at another place, told them my salary requirements, they were okay with it. Came down to the written offer? What'd they do? Offered me X+10%. Declined it on the spot, quite annoyed. Wound up finding another position making ~X*2 (well over Y) within a few months.

That's something else to be aware of... if you hear the phrase "take care of you", basically you should mentally translate that into "We are going to fuck you over SO HARD, you're going to need a donut pillow to sit down. Accept the offer, damnit!". Unfortunately for the person uttering the phrase, I knew how that went, and declined her "most generous" offer.

It's almost been three years, and the folks who accepted it? Not even a pay raise in that time, BUT they are still employed.... watching inflation erode their purchasing power.

Right! Let me explain, Tucks are medicated pads that will help with healing and discomfort around your lady bits. A Haakaa is kinda like a manual breast pump but uses suction to stick to your boob so it’s hands free!

These things are amazing for when you've got liquid shits. The witch hazel helps soothe and speed up healing. Wife got them for after child birth but when I picked up noro virus a few weeks ago they were the most amazing thing ever. You do your clean up and then follow up with one of these bad boys and the next time it doesn't feel like you're scraping sand paper over an open wound.

[Again, I'd recommend ordering this with those vitamins] (http://www.amazon.com/Forces-Nature-Fissure-Control-11ml/dp/B005C55HPG)

100% organic too so apply to butt with a clean conscious!

Stop using paper. I started using these medicated wipes about a year ago, and additionally started applying this ointment recently. The combination has improved my quality of life many times over. Add in a regular dose of loperamide (Imodium) and my situation is pretty manageable overall.

Try hot baths with epsom salt and Preparation H wipes after bowel movements. I been using this cream for my external hemorrhoids and it helps shrink and cool it down. https://www.amazon.ca/Mayinglong-Musk-Hemorrhoids-Ointment-Cream/dp/B000F34TCC

Witch Hazel also helps https://www.thayers.com/medicated-witch-hazel-2/

Slowly change your diet too with veggies and fibre for regular bowel movements.

u/ellbeecee · 5 pointsr/BabyBumps

As a non-pregnant person who still deals with the dreaded H:

Cold is what helps tremendously. These in particular. Freeze it, then lube, up the butt (gently!) or on the outside if yours is external, then take it out/off when you can't stand any more.

There are other options out there, like this that also claims to be good for post partum.

You're not ingesting anything with these, so I assume they're safe while pregnant, but ask your doc if you have concerns.

u/L1mb0 · 16 pointsr/funny

It's funny but can also be a good idea in one specific case: Freezing hemorrhoids is an effective treatment. I used these back in 2002 for a PAINFUL bout with hemorrhoids and have never had a flare-up since! http://www.amazon.com/Anuice-Approved-Medical-Hemorrhoid-Treatment/dp/B003840WFS

There are tons of creams and stuff you can try but there is also a product that you freeze and use to help internal and external hemorrhoids. There are two similar products, actually (sorry I have no experience with these so I can't tell you if they work but there are plenty of reviews on Amazon):

Fiber is good, the real deal (from apples, prunes, grains) is best but I also take a Metamucil pill with my vitamins every night.

Witch hazel is your friend. Grab a jumbo bottle for $3 at the drugstore. Also, this stuff is magic; it smells kind of musty out of the tube but it was the only ointment that actually helped the pain.

The surgery is relatively simple - in office, go home the same day. Also, you can order your prep-H online if you're embarrassed to purchase. http://www.amazon.com/Preparation-Medicated-Hemorrhoidal-48-Count-Packages/dp/B001G7QV5E/ref=sr_1_3?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1408551221&sr=1-3&keywords=preparation+h

I got my first one on a day that I had to ride my bicycle 21 miles (I don't drive)

I bought this when I got mine and it helped out a lot. The ointment stinks to shit though but that's probably so they make sure you wash your damn hands after you're fiddling w/ your ass

Lot of good info here, but a few things are missing:

  • Use a sitz bath. Place it over the toilet seat, fill it with warm water and Epsom salts, and browse reddit for about fifteen minutes. Do this twice a day.

  • Use a Squatty Potty when you poop. It shifts the position of your abdominal muscles, allowing you to pass doodoo more easily and without straining. The last thing you want to do is squeeze that little fucker out even further.

  • Wipe your bum with medicated wipes. In addition to quenching the fire down below, they also feel goddam luxurious. Some people might tell you they're bad for your septic tank or sewage system. These people are damn, dirty liars. Do it anyway.

  • Sit on an ass donut any time you need to be seated for a while. In the car, at the office, having tea with the Queen -- the Ass Donut™ goes wherever you go!

Several commenters have suggested using Preparation H or some other sort of cream. Do that, too. With abandon. Don't be shy about it, neither. Eventually, your new buttmate will quietly slink away into nameless oblivion.
