okay, here we go. i've had some time to come up what i would want if i were you based on our common preferences.

sofa:
https://www.article.com/product/1170/ceni-volcanic-gray-sofa

http://www.overstock.com/8789758/product.html?selectedOption=12449219&detailsMoreExpanded=true

http://www.wayfair.com/Mid-Century-Modern-Style-Sofa-Red-Grey-Yellow-Blue-CAP15-3S-MHUS1046.html

i chose not to include a sectional. primarily because i don't think any exist for around $1,000, let alone any worth having.
personally, I've never been a big fan of them anyway. i feel like we can do better with our space; i feel with its sheer size, a sectional compromises that.

for the sofa i wanted to go with a grey, or charcoal. it's a great color to use as a canvas for everything else, as it's pretty neutral and can compliment basically anything and everything.

with the style i chose (mid-century modern) in a gray/charcoal couch, i'm using that as a platform in deciding the look what i want for everything else: clean, modern and minimalistic lines. contemporary atmosphere with minimal distractions. masculine. not-distractingly minimalistic, but warm and practical. something i won't be intimidated by. approachable, even.

most of all, affordable.

moving on. the coffee table.

http://m.target.com/p/coffee-table-black/-/A-15024766?lnk=fiatsCookie

https://www.allmodern.com/Millenial-Coffee-Table-gw-t13-il-FOXH1806.html

https://www.allmodern.com/Industrial-Coffee-Table-ZIPC1901-ZIPC1901.html

i like the industrial-esque look a solid board of stained wood has on steel. i was at target one day and happened to see that first coffee table and kind of... loved it. it's so simple. but masculine, and modern.
so i of course bought it (waited about a year though). turns out the MDF doesn't look all that great. so I'm in the process of actually building one myself with real wood to achieve a similar look. gotta say, being able to tell guests that i built the coffee table they're resting their beer on is gonna be kinda cool.

I've got an entire folder full of bookmarked diy plans and tutorials for more modern coffee tables of anyone is interested in going that route.

accent table:

http://m.target.com/p/cubby-accent-table-white/-/A-24015009

the black and brown in this end table will really compliment the coffee table. because that's what I'm interested in. complementing, not necessarily matching.
(just like in r/mfa, amateurs match. pros complement).

the end table i linked is pretty affordable but one could also build one or two (easily) of their own for the ultimate bragging points.

accent chair:

http://store.hermanmiller.com/Products/Eames-Lounge-Chair-and-Ottoman

lol just kidding (i wish).

since we're not millionaires, here are some options would go with your sofa and overall theme:

http://www.overstock.com/10074188/product.html

https://www.allmodern.com/Savannah-Fabric-Barrel-Chair-ZIPC2013-ZIPC2013.html

https://www.allmodern.com/Minton-Lounge-Chair-MCRR1324-MCRR1324.html

https://www.allmodern.com/Swan-Arm-Chair-FMI1140-FLNE1116.html

i like these chairs because they "go" with our selections so far without feeling like i picked out a living room set from a value furniture store during a memorial day sale.

bar stools:

i like these in either black or white:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DT2JOOO?vs=1

i'd probably go with black since that's a common color in our selection so far. can be found cheaper in other websites.

rugs/art

oh boy. okay so here are my thoughts on rugs. shopping for these bad boys is a lot like shopping for art. you're told you need something because a floor without a rug is kind of like a wall without some kind of art. which, okay, makes sense.

so in my living room, i would want my rug and art to compliment each other, or at the very least not clash. that way everything comes together and feels intentional.

in my living room, we're using my girlfriend's rug that she loves. it's a flowery-one (of course) but with a nice, deep navy as its background. so on amazon i bought these plain untextured blackout navy curtains so all kinda comes together. as a bonus, no glare when watching maury!
see? so i guess i would want to achieve something similar with the art.

speaking of which: http://us.loveisartkit.com
that is going to be the next piece of art going up in our home.

art is personal. when you see something, and you really really really like it, bring it into your home. or make something yourself!

as far as the "theme" is concerned, since we're going with a contemporary vibe, abstract is king. so either get creative yourself (very easy Bf cheap to do) or go to a few local art student events and support those poor suckers with your money if you discover something that tugs at your heart's strings.

you'll know you made the right decision because it's going to be a reflection of your personality. kind of like.... our selection of furniture. know what i mean? if you're playful, get something playful and full on contrast. if you're a pimp, get something that reflects that.

picking a rug is a similar process. it's a base, or a platform, for everything else to rest on.

i don't know what your vision is for what you want down there. but here are my pics:

http://www.overstock.com/8283067/product.html
http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-trellis/Charcoal/200HJHK02A-76096.html

http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/colonial-mills-portico-braided/Nautical/108PO59-13013.html

http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/loloi-ao-01/Denim/176AO01DE-36056.html

it can be trippy and fun, complicated geometrical patterns, simple, whatever. I'm kind of a minimalist so i like simply patterns and textures. just make sure that whatever you pick doesn't clash with everything else you have going on

bonus: lamps.

this is my absolute favorite lamp in the entire world:

http://www.worldmarket.com/product/mobile/loden-arc-floor-lamp-base.do

target also has some affordable arc-lamp options. i think arc lamps go brilliantly with a modern "vibe" and they're so cool!

another one:
http://www.wayfair.com/Sophia-81-Arch-Floor-Lamp-LGLY2360-LGLY2360.html

ikea has some pretty neat affordable options, both floor and for tables.

i could go on and on and on for all of the possibilities. let me know if any of this was helpful

Hey there! Some ideas to ponder:

  1. I love the idea of mixing in some warmth in the kitchen with the stools to help tie things together, but I also love the clean lines in there. So maybe something like this in clear so you have the warm wood but it's not too obtrusive to the eye lines or something more like these to keep the black tones while still preserving some of the view.

  2. I would definitely try a more substantial bookcase in that corner, something along the lines of this standalone unit or a wall-mounted unit like this , depending on what fits your dimensions & budget. And for the chair, I think you're right to think leather. There are some classic textures and lines here that really blend well with the modern, so something with this style , although if you wanted to play up the mid century vibes of your couch, this chair in the sienna color would be awesome.

  3. For throw pillows, I usually look to tie in wall art colors. Since you don't have much (but I do recommend integrating some!), I would go with something relatively inexpensive for now to try out how much color you want to integrate. If you want to dip your toes in, introduce some color with a little pattern like this or this with lots of pattern but relatively neutral colors. I definitely think of throw pillows as a way to infuse some personality into a room, so make sure they feel like a good fit for you! I like Society6 because they're relatively inexpensive and easy to switch out if I'm jus not feeling something, but just beware that they tend to start pilling a bit after a year or two. And a helpful tip: always check to see if they're shipping a pillow or just the cover. You might have to order some pillow inserts on Amazon.

  4. Fiddle-leaf figs are the go-to potted tree for a lot of people, but I find them to be a bit finicky. I'd recommend a rubber tree or even amother-in-law tongue (also known as a snake plant, I believe). There are things like this all over Pinterest if you need some ideas for what will work best for you.

As far as the any other reccs, I'd just stress adding some textiles. A throw blanket on the couch (or chair!) and maybe a runner in the entryway.

All that being said, your place looks absolutely awesome and the transformation is GOALS.

    I hope this helps!

Sounds like fun! I'll have to do this later

1.) Something that is grey: Pelican Gray Nail Polish. (on private WL)

2.) Something reminiscent of rain: Shower Curtain is a barrier between the bathroom tiles and cascading, rain-like, waterfall that flows from the showerhead. (on dream WL)

3.) Something food related that is unusual: Candy Mold. Chocolate frogs, anyone? (on under $5 WL)

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!): Ice Cream Maker. No ice cream for me because I started keto last week. My friends and family would benefit from this when I make them some delicious ice cream. (on dream WL)

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!: The Knife of Never Letting Go. It's book one of the Chaos Walking trilogy, which has rave reviews. Apparently it's a dark, dystopian book full of suspense. (on high priority WL)

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related!: Laser Finger Beams (not on WL)

7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...): Westside Warrior Nail Polish. Lions, which are really big cats, are warriors of the jungle. (on under $5 WL)

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it: Origami Star Paper. I like folding these, but once I make them into stars, I literally have nothing to do with them. There's jars of them all across my house and all I can do is look at them (on under $5 WL)

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?: Song from Iron Man 3 Soundtrack. Everyone should see it because Iron Man + Tony Stark + RDJ = <3 (on digital WL)

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.: Spin-the-shot. If zombies attack, I would need to be drunk, so this would come in handy for some last minute fun before I turn into a brain eating zombie. Let's face it, I'm not surviving a zombie attack... (on $5-$10 WL)

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals: Coconut Oil. Everyone on the keto subreddit raves about this stuff. Being a newbie to this lifestyle, I feel that if so many people had great results using this oil, that it would help with my goals. (on $11-$25 WL)

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items: Anti-stress face mask (not surprisingly, found on my add-on WL)

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why?: Globe Bar. I would feel like a super cool James Bond-esque spy who would have a secret room hidden behind a bookshelf. Plus I love alcohol and globes. (on dream WL)

14.) Something bigger than a bread box: Desk Easel. (on $11-25 WL)

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball: Earrings. (on private WL)

16.) Something that smells wonderful: Pink Punch Baby Lips (on add-ons WL)

17.) A (SFW) toy: Kindle. I would consider this a techie toy. (on dream WL)

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school: Fun Colored Pens. (on add-on WL)

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be: Paints. My current obsession is painting! (on $11-25 WL)

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand: Mug. I love love love this literature mug. I not only love the varying typography all over it, but I think that there are some really striking first lines of literature. (on $11-25 WL)

BONUS

1.) Real name: PM sent

2.) Made in Oregon: Handwarmer Mug

Edit: raffle phrase - fear cuts deeper than swords

cool place! that colored wall pleasantly surprised me as I was going through.

Few suggestions:

  • Barn light over the countertop/kitchen. You could maybe even put two there. A red one like this would tie into your accent wall.

  • bench for shoe storage by the door. just measure the space & make sure you find one to fit.

  • Get a throw pillow that has some red to match your accent wall. It can be a solid color or a design you like.

  • For the wall behind the couch, under the window, grab a skinny sofa table & put some plants on that. They should get plenty of light there!

  • the bar stools don't really match with the rest of your style. These metal industrial style ones are super popular. No-back or back

  • Wall sconce replacement by the front door. you could do two of these there.
u/oscarsn0w · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Since the most wonderfull /u/Lauran2323 has summoned me, I'll list what I have in my place that I find super useful.

I have this in the kitchen, it holds the microwave and our champange and wine

I think it's a very cool tissue holder

You want this always readily available to you or a guest

Holds even more wine and double as a buffet in your dining room

Fans are huge if you want to save money by using an A/C less

Just to keep things organized on the fridge

It drives me nuts when people open letters like a christmas present

Also some sort of nice smelling candle - it'll make the place feel more like home.

As far as saving money - the urge to order out is immense. Try and cook as often as possible, it's cheaper and healthier. Except on Fridays. On Fridays you can eat pizza!!!!!!!

u/wunderk8 · 2 pointsr/InteriorDesign

Congrats on your new place! Sounds like you are going for a modern style. Maybe a small table and bar stools? I live in a bungalow home and use a little table like this and adjustable stools like this as a breakfast bar. You said your apt is modern so it might go nicely with your place & is a good price point if you don't want to invest in a big table.

In another comment you mentioned mounting your TV to a wall. Alternate suggestion is to get a projector screen and roll it up and down to make your space feel larger.

If you need more kitchen storage you could hang your pots on a rack or do a magnetic knife holder and spice jars.

Please update and show us how you arranged it!

Congrats on your first Cab. The Final fight cab is my family's favorite so far as there are games that each of us can enjoy. I definitely recommend a riser. With it my kids are at a great height for it (9 and 13) but for me at 6'1 it's still a bit short. I'm also looking for stools.

Personally for the style I like, they are actually similar in prcie to the arcade1up so I'm not sure which I'll get yet.

These are a cheaper option but to me they look it as well.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002QM93BC/ref=sbl_dpx_B00DL3JIDS_0?th=1

I really haven't found a cheap option that looks good. Perhaps others have.

u/dollywobbles · 2 pointsr/AskCulinary

My eat-in kitchen is from the 1940's, and it's SO TEENY. When we moved in, I had roughly 8 square feet of counter space, which is mostly occupied by our microwave and dish rack (no space for a dishwasher!) The thing that saved my sanity in the kitchen was a rolling kitchen cart very similar to this one. Mine has a spice rack along the back, a stainless steel counter, and a cutting board that pulls out just above the drawers. It makes things so efficient, I just love it. Good luck with your remodel, I totally understand the struggle!

EDIT: Here are some other fun options :)

u/orange-blossom · 2 pointsr/DesignMyRoom

I don't see any problem with a round table (especially a drop-leaf), but if you want something narrow so that you can pass between the table and the couch, you might want to look for a rectangle shaped table. Are you looking for something lower or higher?

You could go for a simple drop-leaf or mid-century (one, two) bistro table or something more modern, like a pub table (one, two, three). Either way, I'd encourage you to mix & match chairs to suit your style and comfort level, since sometimes dining sets can look a bit dated or cheap.

Another tip for your plant fantasies I've suggested to others before - add a shelf or two across the window for some extra storage/light. Maybe hang some around the window as well.

u/Ondskapt666 · 3 pointsr/DebateFascism

I've read some of these books before I bought them, some I already finished and the rest are on my list to read. My problem is that I read 10 books at once. I'll read a couple of chapters and/or half a book and then switch it up. My mind is strange like that. I don't why I do it but it just works.

I'm collecting books to have in my library one day. Wishful thinking, I know! My bookshelf is packed and the remaining books are now collecting on my desk and comic book short boxes.

There is this image I've always had of myself in a room like this or that. Some guys want the big bar (I would love to have this mini bar and whiskey set), big screen tv, and football memorabilia. I rather have the silence, in solitude, next to a fire, book in hand.

Remember, it's not hoarding if it's books. ;)

u/theleverage · 3 pointsr/vancouver

People always say this but I've never seen them be price competitive on anything. I searched for "Bar stool" and clicked the "Sale Bar Stools!" section and found:

u/marvinthedog · 3 pointsr/oculus

If you put it on a motorized spinning platform you would be able to turn. It would probably be pretty slow turns and without strafing but still very immersive. It would be great for walking simulators like for instance The Solus Project or The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

A cheaper option could be a spinning chair with pedals, something that looked similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/VINTAGELIVING-Industrial-Vintage-Footrest-Adjustable/dp/B07CQGSJGH

u/jenOHside · 2 pointsr/rheumatoid

that might work for her, but to me it doesn't really look like restful sitting. I like my sturdy stool because I can lean back and rest my full weight, or pull my legs up with me. I really need to rest my spine and core muscles, I feel like if I slumped back in that chair I'd fall backwards. I mean, the model doesn't even look comfortable in that picture.

I would go for something like this https://smile.amazon.com/Modern-Adjustable-Synthetic-Leather-Chairs-Sets/dp/B00GV28VBQ/ref=sr_1_6?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1481742167&sr=1-6&keywords=stool&th=1

u/the_chols · 1 pointr/DJs

I picked it up for free at a moving sale. Interestingly enough, one just like it was in a venue closet I did a bridal shower at. Came in handy since I happened to forget mine that day :)

Here is a close match I found on Amazon: Trademark Gameroom Black Cushioned Folding Stool, 24". $14 and it's Prime.

u/slow_one · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Since you mentioned a small place, instead of a large table, maybe try a pub top table? One like this or like this?
I have one in my tiny place, and it's been great.

u/coastieretired · 1 pointr/dailydabbers

Assembled under the influence while surfing Amazon. I couldn't tell you a total price. The idea was to have an easily concealable dab station. It's just a standard globe drink cart. The Kube inside the cart provides the lights. The Octopi glass sits on a skeleton hand jewelry statue. Various other trinkets were added from Amazon. Museum putty holds it all together. The blue lights and sound effects that come from under the drink cart are generated by another $20 dollar device off Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007ROXD8S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The Kube shown at the beginning of this thread is another concealable application. It's pictured inside a living room coffee table whose lid lifts to reveal the dab station. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074WMFL55/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought a set of china for like $40 from a thrift store several years before I got married. It's really pretty and I use it when we have 'fancy' dinners (we sometimes do xmas or easter or something at my house with a bunch of family - I bought a set of 'complimentary' (plain white) dishes and alternate if we have too many people). And we have our normal plates and bowls and stuff that came from Target or wherever when we moved in together that we use daily. We didn't register for any dinnerware. Instead we registered for this: http://www.amazon.com/Design-Toscano-Sixteenth-Century-Italian-Replica/dp/B001MA1W8G

Oh awesome idea! So, the globe opens to house said whiskey?

u/capnarrr · 2 pointsr/cade

Unless you have only one type of machine, get something you can raise and lower, like a cheap pneumatic one.

I got a few of these from target years ago when they went on sale. I like the solid base as well. It's really a personal preference more than anything, though.

u/yourmomismysidepiece · 32 pointsr/ThriftStoreHauls

I got this off a neighborhood resale/posting website. He posted it 40 mins prior to me messaging him and I got it first. He told me when we picked it up that 6 people had messaged him about it after I had. :) I'll be using it to store my paints since I don't drink. Pic of the art on the inside. I found it on Amazon and it's worth $149.99.

u/stephenlloyd_dot_net · 5 pointsr/malelivingspace

I agree. Here's what I did with the blank corner in my room The fake plant was $40 from Ikea, the telescope was from Amazon and on a clear night you can see the rings of Saturn. Sort of ties the outside with the inside.

Edit* I guess to go further, the painting is entitled "Building" by Joe Lloyd in Los Angeles and the globe is from Amazon as well, but more notably recognized from the Mike Myers scene in Inglorious Basterds
