I think you should pick up another straight that has been honed to shave ready. Larry at Whipped Dog has some very affordable blades that are supposed to be shave ready. You can use this as a measure to getting your blade up to snuff.
Also, technique may be an issue. But you've been shaving a while....
If you can't get it keen on a 4K, you may need to set that bevel again... There is no formula for bevel setting, just a feeling. I'd blunt the blade on a thumbnail, then hone until you can easily pop hair with the edge. Then, move up a measured progression like pyramid honing.
Here's a copy past I did you might find useful:
Equipment Essentials
Honing Supplies for Restoring a Few Straights
To hone:
First, you need to flatten your stone, making sure you've removed the top 1/64th or so of stone material to reach the true grits (the top is a bit rough on Nortons especially).Make sure your stone is perfectly flat. Use the DMT or the sandpaper I described above for this.
Next, clean your SR in soap/warm water. Dry it, and put a piece of electrical tape along the spine and fold it over (like a book binding) if you'd like (not necessary, and I don't do this, but some prefer the look of the end product).
I like to clear the edge of possible errand burs before I hone, so I drag the shaving edge against my thumbnail or a glass bottle. These burs can cause issues, and may make for a rough feeling edge. I've found that this is a good way to remove them. It may be unnecessary for some/most blades, but it's part of my bevel setting routine, and by doing this, I've notice good things and increased consistency when I hone.
Now, to hone. You're going to get your razor sharp in these stages:
Setting the bevel:
While all steps are important, this step is foundational. Place your razor on your bevel setting stone, keeping the razor spine and edge completely flat on the surface togehter. Do tiny circle strokes (circular motion down the hone) so you do about 30-40 tiny circles as you move own the bottom hone. Repeat on the other side of the razor, moving up the hone in the opposite direction (and counter-wise circle direction). Now do 15 x strokes. This is a set.
Repeat doing these sets until you can shave hair on your arm or leg by very slowly grazing over the tops of the hair - it should catch and cut with a bit of a tug.
It will take many many of these sets with a 4k stone, and less with a 1K.
Once you can shave hair on your arm or leg all along the bevel (toe to heel) with uniform sharpness and cutting, you may be set. Do another 10 or so x-strokes, very lightly, very perfectly as a final sharpening for your bevel. See if this helps your edge.
Once you're happy with your bevel, strop it and shave. If it's painful, it's likely your bevel isn't set. If it's decent, you're ready to move on.
Polishing the bevel
Now move up to polishing. On the 4K and do 35 light x strokes. Go to the 8K and do 35 light x-strokes. Repeat this back and forth going 4K 30, 8K 30. Now keep this up, decreasing the stroke number by 5. When you're at 10 strokes, just do 25 on the 8K.
Always check for sharpness along the edge by trimming a bit of arm hair. You'll learn a lot from an edge by doing this.
Following the grits up in this fashion should give you a fairly polished bevel. It's best to go higher than 8K with a high grit chinese hone from a woodworking store, or a naninwa 12k, but 8K will do for now.
Truing the edge:
Strop about 30 passes on your chromium oxide, clean the blade, and the perform 200 passes on leather - all spine leading, done very lightly.
The Shave
After all this, you should have a great edge. Give it a test shave and compare it to your pro honed blade.
While honing, you'll likely get frustrated, but keep at it! If you're getting aggressive with the razor, just give it a break, and come back later. If the shave is no good, post back here and we'll help you diagnose.
Some thoughts:
I tired to present information that's very searchable. Straight razor place has archived many of the ideas that I just presented. I highly recommend researching on your own and reaching a personal conclusion. What follows are my personal opinions.
This equipment I suggest is not necessarily the best, nor is it bad at all. It's great way to get started and find out what you like in a stone/routine. Some ideas to consider if you upgrade your set:
The back and forth honing I recommend is a honing series called pyramid honing, where you go between two different grit hones to ensure you don't form a wire edge or a bur. I like to recommend this for folks getting into honing since this is one of the most documented methods for get a razor to shave ready from a bevel set. A quick google search on pyramid honing will give you plenty of reading. I don't hone this way any more.
I highly recommend honing your razor as sharp as possible on one stone, strop as I've outlined, and give it a shave. For example, sharpen as much as you can at the 4K stage, and strop it 200 times. If it shaves ok, you're on the right track. If not, you've got more work to do at that level of stone. You'll be amazed that such a low grit can shave so well. If it's painful to shave after your lowest stone.... you're not done, and moving up the stones will not benefit your edge. Repeating this process of shaving up all the stone grits (4K, 8K, 12K) will help you get a feel for what honing at the different levels provide. Shaving off my 1K bevel provided me the biggest leap in edge quality while learning.
Don't limit your techniques. Once you can confidently bring a restored razor to shave with consistency, I'd recommend playing around and experimenting. Though this, I've developed some strokes that are critical to my routine, and used effectively with every blade I sharpen.
They're not that far between. And frankly, instead of the one you're pointing to, I would go for one of these instead(though there's no variety there, which seems to be what you're looking for...)
That $100 one you pointed to is kinda alright, but really, IMO the G2's and the Black pearls are really poor smokes. Like I couldn't finish the Pearls I've had and the G2 I smoked was finished only because it was going to be my last smoke for a week or two, so I wanted to savor every last moment. I definitely wouldn't go back.
If I was you, I would get a Bally 100-ct humidor or even this smaller Capri and then get a nice sampler from Famous-Smoke (who I find to have much better samplers) (or get one of CI's nicer samplers cheaper on cigarbid.com
Something like one of the Famous Smoke Best of Samplers. From that bunch, I think the Best of Dominican, the Best of Medium Bodied or the Best of Full Bodied selections are pretty damn great. (Also check out the Best of Camaroon or Best of Habano samplers... good stuff in there. However, I have been enjoying this 2010 Awards Sampler from cigar.com that has a wide selection of mild to full, small to big smokes. That might actually be a great starting place, though I really would recommend that, if you go with that one, you append it with a couple singles of Arturo Fuente Short Stories and a couple Padron 2000's in both natural and maduro.
Hope that helps. Typically, though, those humi+cigar deals are filled with house-brand filler smokes and it's not actually as good a deal as it seems. Your call.
Plants! They're great to have, I have some bamboo right now. I love it. Here's a really pretty bonsai tree!
And you definitely need a crock pot! They're super handy to have, just throw some food in in the morning and come home to a super easy meal, plus leftovers!
An electric kettle is another essential! Especially if you love tea.
Cheap, cute end tables! I turned the top of mine into a chessboard! Fancy-s up my room a lot.
Here and here are some really nice shelves!
You definitely need a set of knives too!
A really awesome bottle opener!
Here are some really cool glasses.
Aaand the cutest sake set ever.
Okay I'll stop linking now. I just really love household-y things! :D
Thank you for the contest and I hope this list helps!
This is off the topic, but just as a side thought:
Everyone has their own preference when it comes to storing sticks, but if I may - as a new smoker too - Read over this. This was my experience.
" I've literally smoked a handful of cigars up to this point. All came from the local B&M and have been great. Super knowledgeable, helpful bunch of guys, that weren't rude to dude "wet behind the ears".
I enjoy the hobby, a lot.
I got a humidor, couldn't regulate it very well (50 count humi at $50, and only gave it 2 weeks), got frustrated with it, returned it and went the tuppedor route.
All seems really well with my tuppedor set up.
I let the tuppedor do its thing with only the trays, bovedas, and Hygrometer (no cigars) in it for a day - it settled at 72 degrees / 69 RH in no time. This is a set it and forget it solution. I love it!"

As someone new to the hobby I would recommend saving yourself some time and frustration. I know you have already purchased the humidor and its on the way, but if at all possible, you may just consider the Tupperdor route. Switching how I stored my cigars freed my mind and allows me to focus on whats really important - researching good sticks and enjoying them. Two weeks was a long time for me to constantly think about and attempt to season my humidor. And i researched and cross referenced everything on line and at my local B&M. The owners (three dudes) at my local shop all highly recommended the tupperdor route. These are guys who have been smoking cigars longer than I have been alive (30+ yrs).
The owner said this to me (paraphrasing):
"It isn't about having a fancy storage case. Its about enjoying time spent with good people. If someone gives you sh*t about how you store your cigars, but either they don't know what they are talking about, or they are an a**hole and you shouldn't waste your time on em. I've been using tupperware for over 10 years, and I'll never go back. Now --- if the president came over, then I may spring for a fancy box!"

Just a thought.
T Eldridge
That's pretty adorable and sweet. You know her tastes best, so tailor this to her specifically, but a good jumping-off point is:
One of these might be your best bet.
I'm pretty sure the song you posted is mostly in the key of B-flat major, and I think it has a couple very short key changes thrown in.
The typical music box has around 12-30 playable notes and plays from 6-8 bars of music (usually less than 30 seconds). The cheaper crank ones you can find at toy stores tend to be on the lower end of that range (12-18 notes).
If you were to make your own, you'd probably want to stick to the most recognizable melody from the song (probably the first 30 seconds since it's 8 bars) and skip any part with a key change. The notes you'll mostly be using are Bb, C, D, Eb, F, G, A. If you choose a short segment, someone else can probably transcribe/simplify it for you better than I would (try /r/transcribe). I could probably peck it out on the piano, but I don't have any way of making sheet music. (Note: I suggest transcribing it a full step up to the key of C-major).
If you choose to attempt to make a real music box and not one of those paper strip kinds, you'll need to find a comb (the part of the music box that has all the notes on it) and a spool (the part with all the raised bumps that triggers the notes on the comb) or just take one apart, as this website's tutorial suggests.
I suggested transcribing the song to the key of C because it is a common key for music boxes, so you could much more easily pick one up at a toy store. I can't think of any songs in B-flat off the top of my head, so I'm not sure it would be very easy to find a comb in B-flat. Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, When the Saints Go Marching In, and The Entertainer are all usually in C, and they're pretty easy to find.
How much time do you have for this? I don't have a lot of free time, but I might be able to help put together a template if you decide to go with one of the paper strip kinds.
Also, sorry for making two comments, but I recommend that you sell off stuff you don't want, especially the smaller and lower quality pieces that many start off with as first pieces.
Here's some links for specific stands that I recommend. They should be versatile and are budget friendly.
U-Stands. Great for highlighting pieces in the back of displays and adding accents, sometimes can be rotated to create a two level effect.
Easel Stands. Good for displaying slabs or even books.
Sliding Stands. Good for vertical pieces, and can hold much more than you would think. Really wide pieces can start adding too much weight, so don't push them too far.
Peg Stands. Subtle and easy to incorporate into any display. 1 2 3
Slotted Acrylic Stands. Meant to hold labels so they're easy to see for pieces in the back or on higher shelves.
Decorate already! These books ends would look wonderful and go well with the decor you already brought in. I think that This little guy would look simply adorable keeping an eye on your computer desk. I love black cats and books so if you do too this trinket box might work out well. Could we request a GC? I am saving for a vaccum otherwise surprise me, I wish you the best of luck finding some things for your desk/office area.
I like these for stuff like this. You can get a couple sets and put glasses on the top and in the shelf. It turns out to be really cool looking if you add some other fun stuff in there, like maybe a shaker or a glass of stirring rods. If you put them in a single like then you'll have more visibility and you can play around with these. Best of luck!
3 walls very light beige (as light as it gets!), the wall with the window, brown!
then use this fabric to make your super curtains!
Let's change out those curtains!
just a few bonus decorating ideas
have this book shelf mounted in one corner of the room, from the way the layout looks in the picture, i'd say that right side corner you should mount this.
and then maybe this floor lamp somewhere on the left side of the room to add a little extra light. And since there are so many different bulbs, you can really mess with the lighting ambiance of the room!
and maybe this poster up above your window, going along with it. Adds a bit more rainbow to the room, and all the colors on the brown wall would really look amazing.
and if i so happen to win, I would super appreciate a GC to go towards my DS fund! :D
$30? This one was my first humidor.

Best part - the glass top. You get to stare at your beautiful, sexy, glorious sticks!
The 7 Liter (236oz) (7.4qt) (42 cup) Sistema almost perfectly fits the 2 cedar trays that I got from Amazon. I was very pleased with it. The container goes by many names - I've literally seen it go by each of those unit of measures. Amazon has it for like $36 which is crazy. I had Walmart ship me one but they sent a 5 liter by accident and think the item listing is incorrect about the sizing. Sistemas have a rubber gasket on the lid and 4 flip lock things to keep the lid secure.
I ended up going with the Container Store. They are not in my area so I had to buy online and pay for the shipping. They go for $12.99

I've gotten two different cedar trays from Amazon and this is the one that is a great fit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B9234HE
I've also bought https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0733TYGWX/ but the fit wasn't as good (it is a little smaller).
The one with the good fit has 2x5 of those holes in the bottom while the one that was a little smaller has 2x3 holes.
I like these clear acrylic stands, the 12-inch version is a good size for all but the largest amiibo, which I just put on the top shelf. I purchased some from a more expensive brand, but later found these ones that seem to be pretty much identical: https://www.amazon.com/9-Inch-6-25-Inch-Acrylic-Combination-Life/dp/B014PXHVXQ/?th=1
They'd look good on any shelf IMO, but as the reviews state, they're a perfect complement for Ikea detolf or similar standing glass display cases and fill out the available vertical space in there amazingly well.
> I've heard that they're a partnership with a bunch of Japanese media entities - what does that mean in terms of where the money is going to (how much to studios, etc.)?
7 companies (4 anime studios, 3 ad firms). An attempt to cut out the middle man. I assume they function like Crunchyroll. Profits are cut up as a base payment to each one; then by who has the largest market share; then more percentages given to the companies whose videos are watched the most like a 1st place, 2nd place, etc kind of thing for the studios.
When they launched they had booths at every major anime con and they had that raffle give-away thing too with those hard-to-get $$$ figurines and what not (I got 2 gunplas from it)
They're keeping up with the pace very well. Getting apps out for new platforms. Streaming worldwide, no region restrictions (ex. Crunchyroll in the UK has shit selection compared to Crunchyroll in the US) except if the anime is already owned in that region from before, more exclusive features such as showing interviews of cast members subbed or bands that sing for anime, and best of all---IT'S FREE. Thanks to the pro ad firms, they're able to strategically get ads in there that work thus offsetting the costs. They have a spectacular store as well for figurines that ship easily world wide that are difficult for foreigners to buy otherwise. I hear they sell well as they are frequently updated with new merchandise.
Besides advertising on their own site, I've seen them buy ad space on other sites in various languages to plug their site. Spanish, German, Italian, etc. They really did their research to get their name out that people of all countries are welcome and that they have things provided in their languages which is a rarity for simulcasting sites. That's a lot more visitors coming in just for that.
The IKEA Detolf cabinet is really nice. Looks fantastic, and is very affordable, I believe its 60 bucks. Ive seen so also other collectors on this sub also use the detolf cabinet, and everyone ive talked to about it loves it as well. I also use some typical acrylic risers from Amazon. Makes it so each shelf can hold around 36 amiibo (4 shelves, 144 amiibo total).

For the risers definitely get the 12 by 8.75.
I hope this helps! :)
Has he read all of Rick Riordan's books? (I'm assuming yes, but in case not, those are super popular).
LOTR boxed set is always a great way to go.
If he likes reading, what about a set of bookends? I got a set of Harry Potter bookends for my birthday when I was 10, and I've kept them for well over a decade. It's the kind of gift you'd never buy for yourself but that you didn't know how much you wanted/will use.
Some awesome bookends:

If you're working with scale figures and/or figmas these are the risers I used: 3,4,5 Inch Square Acrylic Riser Set, Clear https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00737IQRC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_dwO0xb36G672B
The 3" fit nicely under prize and single figmas, the 4" and 5" fit great under standard scale figures as well as the scales with huge bases.

Humidor + 10 cigars for $30 (This does not seem to be the same humidor, but I ordered one and I'll see just how different they are.) This one is much better quality than the first one!
This is my first humidor, and I was impressed by the quality when it arrived. I would have expected something of this quality to be too rich for my blood.
In following the advice of a reviewer, I'm currently calibrating the hygrometer with salt water in a bag, and I'll charge it up with a shot glass of water tonight!
Edit: And...my hygrometer is broken. It wasn't calibrated correctly, and the needle ceased to move (broke?) when I tried to adjust it. I've contacted the vendor to see if they'll send me a single hygrometer.
Edit2: I'm returning it to Amazon due to the broken hygrometer and buying the $30 + 10 cigars instead. Hopefully I have better luck with that one.
Paint those walls! I love strong blues in bathrooms. I think this would look great with periwinkle. Even if you rent and have to paint back to original, it's not that much paint so won't take much time or money.
I think these shelves might fit on both sides of your mirror:
https://smile.amazon.com/Greenco-Corner-Shelves-Espresso-Finish/dp/B01GIJBK50
Then some bright fluffy yellow towels and bath rugs.
You're welcome! Here's another one of my favorite gifts: a Rainbow Maker. These are delightful! They make a heart-shaped one, too, if that would be up their alley.
Also, I'm one of the those women who find pleasure in tupperware. So if you think they would enjoy nice tupperware, too, you might consider this large, colorful set. I have it and love it!
Or you can go with the more expensive, but very popular, Lock & Locks or Oxo Pop-Tops.
Cool, great timing. Happy shopping!
By the way, I've also purchased acrylic risers that really helps make your display look better. The figures are typically much shorter than each individual shelf so the risers help balance the look.

I love those risers for Funkos and 6 inch. Detolf from ikea is a cheap ($60) option and looks great. The risers fit perfectly in there.
I guess it all boils down to what you’re collecting though.
I bet you're getting yourself a beautiful rainbow maker! Total shot in the dark because I know it's on the pricey side, but who knows? Maybe that's what you got. =)
Happy shopping and thank you so much for hosting this contest! TREAT YO' SELF!

These hard boiled egg molds are probably the most interesting thing I have on my list in that price range. Heart shaped eggs are definitely weird things.
Most fun I had today was probably chatting with my little sister, introducing my infant daughter to fresh puréed blueberries from the backyard, and reading my eldest a chapter of one of my favorite childhood novels before bedtime.
F.e.s.s. Fess Storage versatility... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0733TYGWX?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
Yes I got it off Amazon. The hygrometer is great and visually I like it when I peek in my office to check the humidity. Checking the trends were convient when it was settling out. Definitely recommend the 65 boveda because I started with 69 and it would fluctuate between 68-71 because of how well the systema holds humidity.
To clarify, the basswood box and the Kikkerland Music Box Kit come separately, I forgot to take some photos before I attached them. Sorry for the potential confusion!
Here's a timelapse video of drawing the box cover.
And here's a demonstration of the music box. Some notes are definitely off, but I'll fix them once I get more music strips.
If anyone's interested in making their own, you can buy the music box kit it here . Please note that it cannot play sharps or flat, and that you should transpose music to C-note before punching holes into the strip.
Music Box Composer by Jelly Biscuits will save you a lot of time (~$15 for the full version) since it allows you to print notes on strips and you can just punch the holes. I only experimented with the trial version to test some notes, so it's better to just check out the site.
They look nice, but it's super easy to build a small "now playing" and etc shelf. I built two with no skills building anything for $10 total and 10 minutes of work. These are wall mounted and would look really nice if I put more work and skill into it.
Since these will be almost completely obstructed from view, you can replace them with cheap aluminum stands that will serve the same purpose.
Artsy for life
I am a music teacher! I have been writing band pieces since before I graduated high school, and I continue to do so now. However, I have been wanting to look at different avenues of composition, and I found one that has piqued my interest.
I would like one of these, a Music Box Set that you can punch out your own songs for the music box! I think it would be amazing if my foster son could fall asleep to music his fosterdad made, instead of the music box we got him that only plays a song for about eight seconds before repeating. Plus, I can work with the kids to create songs as well that they can go home and show their parents!
Thanks for the contest :)
Decorate already! This lamp is pretty cool! And this could be a fun way to add a chalkboard and more dragons to your office :) And both of these bookend sets are pretty cool!
And I don't know if non-Amazon things are off limits, but I really liked this paperclip holder.
They were all super easy to hang up. I'll link the better ones than the ones I had to assemble myself. They are the same price. The square shelves are kind of cool but I would rather have more of the medium size one than the big ones (except for Mega Yarn Yoshi) wish there was a way to order just the medium sized ones. I'll be needed more shelves soon as I already didn't have space to hang my Skymiibo. They were the only ones so I didn't see the point in buying another set of shelves for 4 (8 with their vehicles) so I'm waiting for the 15 pre-orders I have to start coming in before I hang more shelves.

You should use a proper sushi knife. Looks like this:
http://imgur.com/5smU5Eb
Your knife doesn't need to be expensive but it needs to be extremely sharp. you need to use a whetstone to get it sharp enough for sushi. Here is a video on how to use one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBXRkMZfIXk
Or if you want to go more in depth here is one with a much better process and better materials:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTKV5-ZSWcE
Here is the whetstone used in the video for $40:
http://www.amazon.com/Sharpening-Combination-Double-Side-1000-8000/dp/B00HMUBEY2/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1393890698&sr=1-2&keywords=whetstone+1000+8000
And here is one if you are tight on money:
http://www.amazon.com/King-1000-Grit-Whetstone-Plastic/dp/B000OT1ZOC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1393890592&sr=8-2&keywords=whetstone
You can make any run of the mill knife scalpel sharp, but a real sushi chef uses a hollowed edge knife, and sharpens it on a 10,000 grit whetstone.
P.S. as long as nori is fresh it doesn't matter what brand it is.
Perfect for displaying stuff
If you get this, you wont need to take up space on any other tables or desks. It's been a godsend for me with little trinkets I like to display. Best of luck to ya!
Something cool would be a gift that doesn't only foster appreciation between the two siblings but also a gift that's also fun for a child to play with in itself. Might be a tad too early but something cool would be a punch your own tune music box. You get to mess around and make some sick jams while popping off fun lullabies for the wee one.
The Detolf is great but not very suited for displaying small figures like Amiibos.
However these help them display much better.
Same question was posted a couple of months ago. I'd love to know too, but other than fan-made one-offs, they don't appear to exist. The best advice in the last thread consisted of an instructable for a music box, plus a link to the sheet music for the melody. Here's the thread, if you're interested.
http://www.reddit.com/r/cowboybebop/comments/2juyxj/would_love_to_have_a_music_box_with_memory_but_i/
Edit: Here's a DIY music box kit I've seen sold on ThinkGeek and also used in several YouTube instructables. You have to punch out the score and build your own box, but it is inexpensive.
http://www.amazon.com/Kikkerland-Make-Your-Own-Music/dp/B000HAUEFY
they always say get the biggest humidor you can afford, that being said, amazon has some nice ones starting at around 30 bucks.
also cheaphumidors.com (reputable) has imperfect humidor sections, which has had great feedback. very small imperfections for a fairly good discount.
http://www.cheaphumidors.com/c_imperfect-humidors.html
i got mine (presidente dos by CC) at ebay for 50 dollars. love it.
reason you should get the biggest one you can afford because,
1 youll buy more than you think you will having storage.
2 should not underfill or overfill, too many cigars and they wont breathe, too little and the environment wont be ideal, can fluctuate.
ps. toss the green stuff inside the humidifer, replace with beads (NOT getl) cheaphumidors again has them, also heartfeltindustries.
pps analog hygrometers are not very good, tend not to be accurate most of the time and prolly need constant adjusting. recommend getting humidor with a digital one or eventually buying one along the line avg cost 15-20usd
I use these and they look like this .. each row comfortably holds four pops and you can put two 6" pops on the top row if you need to and they look nice there. Hope this helps!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002TOK352/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This one is my first and I love it. I have put a drymistat tube in and also a digital hygrometer. Stays around 68% humidity now. Just make sure to follow the directions with the humidor in seasoning it correctly and to calibrate your hygrometer. Simple salt with water in a bag (you can find specific instructions elsewhere) is good enough.
drymistat - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QCAGM0/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
digital hygrometer - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000H6CZQE/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I realize those put it above 30 bucks... But you can get the digital hygrometer and drymistat later. Just calibrate your analog hygrometer and use either distilled water or some type of "cigar juice" in the humidifier disc and it should work fine. There are a few ways to keep the humidity levels right.
Since it's virtually impossible to keep the dog from them, go for the toys that are made of natural ingredients.
Toys like Da Fur Thing - which is made of a scrap of rabbit fur with feathers on the end. Felted wool balls, knitted wool mice.
Link for Da Fur Thing on Amazon
Then there are the battery operated toys that you have to turn on for your cat which will keep them occupied. Of course the dog might get fascinated with it as well.
Like Frolic Cat's toys and there's also a solar powered prism that you hang on your window and it casts rainbows on the floor for your cat to catch.

You can buy cedar trays on Amazon:

Hey! It's no lotion, but personally I am always cold. This was a great gift I got once, used it a lot! http://www.amazon.com/Intelex-Plush-Elephant-Microwaveable-Warmer/dp/B002WILK7A
Thanks! I got it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/NIUBEE-Acrylic-Display-Cupcakes-Countertops/dp/B074CB3P4V
I bought 6 of the 9x6" for $14.58 each. I'm using 4 on the lower shelf and two on the top shelf. Most Amiibo fit nicely on it. A few of the WoN 4" figures are too large but I was able to make it work. They have a larger size you can buy but I thought it might be too big to look nice.
If it has to be bought from amazon, my friend and I each have this one of these right now, performs quite well. However, if you can, I would actually try out cigarbid for humidors, they usually have all the standard humidors for a great price if you can pull the bid off.
Depends on the actual figure itself.. a simple 1/8 scaled Miku can weigh about 300g but a figure like 1/8 Ultimate Madoka can weigh around 2kg. Try checking amazon for the weights of your figures.
(Though its safe to assume you'll be fine, unless you have 3 figures the size of ultimate madoka sitting on a single shelf.)
Also not DIY, but I think these are great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07559P21F/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You can fit 4 rows of 5 per shelf.
I noticed that the writing edge has a slight curvature to it. Did you use a squishy surface like a "pad" to do the grind or something with a solid surface like a stone? I've found that pads don't make the writing surface fully flat and you might want to try with a solid grinding surface in case you want to try on a steel nib in the future. I've found my results to be far better on my whetstone compared to my micromesh pads
This is neat because it's decorative and can be used for functional storage. Plus it takes advantage of a space that is usually not used, the corner! Good luck with your new home
Awesome collection! I think these acrylic shelves would make it look even better!

buy her the Madoka Magica series. unless you've heard her mention them cause then she probably knows all too well. take her to the third movie if you can! trust me on this one, she'll fuck you for introducing her/taking her on a trip to see the 3rd movie [](/s "i would")
other than that.. look for Revoltech Evangelion figures since they're da'best.
extra: ultimate madoka, kyubey plushie. a death note notebook could be a good stress reliever if you can convince her to write down whoever pisses her off (don't be upset/surprised if you find your name in there often during periods)
good luck!
Thanks! I don't really feel comfortable saying what I like about cigars yet, because I would most likely be guessing or talking out of my ass. I tend to enjoy some scotch with them, I don't know if that is any help. I have looked into some sort of storage device because I tend to smoke 1-2 on the weekends rather than mid week. [This] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002TOK352/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details) was recommended in another thread I read and also looked into seasoning them correctly and keeping the humidity at a good %.

This one's more basic but perfect for your shelves. 12x8 fits Pops! ... 9x6 doesn't.
/u/dizzyvonblue I like hearing that you support your son's victories; what seems little to us may be a big thing for him. Go Mom! I hope he gets to be who he is, wanting to be someone else is a waste of who you are.
I love the way I make connections others don't see- sometimes even the big picture.
Egg Molds
After a bit of shopping around I went with these
I’m really happy with them and the Nendoroids fit fine on them as long as they don’t need much room. But I think some of the bigger ones like Ishtar or Shimakaze will have to put in the back row.
I actually really like the ferris wheel. Maybe you can use uhh, those hankercheif/scarves to make make-shift tents, or a circus ring to go with it. Possibly set up a mini game for small prizes, or 50 cents off or something to that effect. I'd use a flat color table cloth so everything else pops out more. White/black, probably.
something like this would display things quite well, too. Maybe for the cups. They have a whole bunch of different kinds and sizes.
You can do this with a microcontroller, either with conductive, or probably less fiddly, optical sensors. However, you may have seen these already, but music boxes are ideal for punch-card style programming.
https://smile.amazon.com/Kikkerland-Make-Your-Own-Music/dp/B000HAUEFY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425449225&sr=8-1&keywords=paper+music+box
You can do some neat math/music concepts this way, including mobius music.
Just go to Love Tree Point and find the one Justin made for Betsy!
In all seriousness, I've made a custom music box using this:

Might not be exactly what you're looking for but possibly the best way to get one.

There's more than one seller for 3-tier acrylic stands of this kind, but I found the best price is from Combination of Life. They're currently at 2 for $36.99. They ship covered in film, and each has its own cleaning cloth and screwdriver. I have so many small screwdrivers right now.
I put one of these F.e.s.s. trays on the bottom: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0733TYGWX/
And then put this one on top of it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B9234HE/
They fit perfectly in the Sistema container together. The larger one is too large to fit two, but the F.e.s.s. one is small enough to fit with it. Two Fess will work too, but the other one gives a little bit more space for larger cigars.
I am happy with this stone.. It is big enough...about 7 1/2" to easily sharpen a kitchen chef knife.
I am not a fanatic. There is nothing better than 3 stones and a strop. But, I get a very good working edge in a couple of minutes with just this one synthetic stone. I have the Lansky system and ceramic sticks, but in my opinion they are fiddly and slow.
This one medium grit stone is simple, cheap, easy and fast.
Thanks! These guys as recommended on this sub. The 12 inch fits the Detolf shelf perfect.
For those interested in the stand, I picked up a set of 6 on Amazon for $9.99. Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XSJ2VCN/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The stands are awesome, they are adjustable, it will accommodate different sizes as needed so it will even work on larger cases.
I'm wanting to put something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GIJBK50/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_a95CybWM8D3SV in my nursery but I have trim in the corners of the room. I'm not sure what else I could do? Anyone smarter than me have a solution?
LOVE this. Took only 24 hrs to season, and I didn't wipe it down. Would buy again, and recommend.

here are the shelves that I used
I am pretty sure you can find cheaper and nicer stuff online, just look up “Display Riser” and keep looking until you find something that matches your asthetic
Make Good Art, or at least buy it from someone who does so you can support artists like the OP. ~nods emphatically~
Cute eggs
I've had 2 humidors (first one gave up the ghost to an empty glass dropped by a drunk person)
The Detolf is pretty awesome, currently have 2 of them to manage most of the amiibo. I also use these acrylic stands to make it look even better! It brings up the price quite a bit (I have 7 stands so far) but I think it's worth it to really display the collection.
I just bought this one on Amazon, and am really happy with it. Something comparable would've cost me like $100 at my local smoke shop
For a humidor, I would get a Sistema Container and a couple of these trays. This setup has worked great for a number of people, myself included. It seals very well.
Oh man, all sorts of possibilities! You could go with the tried and true method of stacking the Pop boxes themselves and using those. This post for example, you can see OP used them as tiered stands on the bookshelves. Probably cheapest option since the boxes come with the Pops, most of the time.
After that, you can try buying plastic/acrylic risers. Amazon and the container store have these available most of the time, Amazon having more sizing options. Most people use the clear acrylic ones with their detolf glass cases from ikea. But they’re definitely not limited to just those cases
After that you can try making your own out of foam board. The stuff is pretty cheap at Micheal’s or Walmart and with one sheet, I think you can make ~2 stands. This was the guide I followed. Didn’t use her exact measures, but more so as a template. I’ve got 2 two tiered stands I made from this method.
Hope this helps some!
It's actually an exponential scale so the gap can be bigger at finer grits. Here's a chart that compares the grit number (use the waterstone column) with the actual size of the particles involved in microns.
My "everyday" set is this one and I this one (the 2nd one has reviews complaining about getting the wrong size, but I bought it in a store so I got the size this link is supposed to be for). Those are enough to get chisels and plane blades sharp enough to shave my arm hairs.
The 400 is some local brand I got in a small shop in Japan, and I like having a coarse stone since you'll be there forever on the 1000 stone if you ever accidentally chip an edge or want to restore an old blade. But to be fair, these are rarer uses so you might as well just use the sandpaper method for these purposes instead of buying a whole stone just for that purpose.
The 13000 stone is this one.
Sure thing, [here they are.] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005VTP1Z4/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=17A26QSVT1THK&coliid=I299VTGY251WX9&psc=1) I really like these, they really accent the office nicely. I think I'm going to buy two more sets for other corners of the room...
Everyone's giving you advice about shrugging it off and going the tuppedor route, but I think the thing you're missing here is that you bought this thing and if it happened in transit then you should call them about getting a new one or at least a refund. I have this one and while its certainly nothing amazing, it's a humidor and its working just fine. I struggled with the rh at first because I simply didn't understand it but now it's fine and looks pretty classy....the only downside is that I discovered cbid, so now I have like 50 sticks coming in...for my "50"-count humidor....which is already filled with about 30.
First world problems...amirite?
Deltof are used by many amiibo collectors. You're right about the best use of space though. Three tier racks help with that issue
Dude, from personal experience Get a few of these they fit great in these cases!
I use these and they are pretty good. As you can see, they don't fit the bookcase as I would like, but I like them for what they are.

Cap and Bat OOB Collection
https://www.knifeplanet.net/knife-sharpening-school-online-course/
This is a pretty good primer about the technique and stuff. I just got a 1000 grit stone from amazon and tried it with a bunch of different cheap knives I had laying around. It's all technique and learning to feel the burr on the edge.
This is the stone I used too - https://www.amazon.com/King-1000-Grit-Whetstone-Plastic/dp/B000OT1ZOC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1523892968&sr=8-2&keywords=king+1000+grit
You can fit two of these shelves perfectly in that container.
Oh my god,I'm such a derp sorry! haha those are from Amazon, here is the link :)

Great deal! Theres other packs thst come with different multiples as well.
I'm pretty sure that one might be my 5 inch tall riser from this set on Amazon. They even come in different colors!
Nothing special but they work great. They ship with a protective covering so they don’t scratch during shipment.
https://www.amazon.com/Combination-Life-Acrylic-Display-8-5-Inch/dp/B014PXHVXQ
I could really use new plugs my old ones are sooo old size 00
also me and my boyfriend are gonna start taking Bento lunches and these could really come in handy
also these are pretty cheap and can be bundled nicely with either of those 2 other things
Goodbye Eleven... goodbye forever!
Thanks! The risers are these ones from Amazon, and the cabinet is in front of a window so it's actually just natural light coming through.
Well I have a bit of experience woodworking, so making the box wasn't particularly hard. The actual music box contraption I bought off of Amazon, Here's the link
Then its just a matter of hole-punching the sheet music onto the paper they give you (the sheet music I actually hand transcribed myself, but you can find some other ones that are similar online) and screwing it into place inside the box. Pretty simple, really!
Overwatch pops are so detailed. They need to be oob to be fully enjoyed!

Oob with risers like these can work
these they’re pretty nice!
Thanks. Also does this seem like a good humidor?

Hey I know I'm late to the party, but I recently bought shelves like these from Amazon- $24 for a 5 tier shelf system
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01GIJBK50?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
Just look up "picture frame stand" and you'll get tons of different options.
This is a pretty good one
Some people might think it's silly that an adult woman wants to mold hardboiled eggs into fun shapes.. One person's silly is another person's awesome, though. Mischief managed.
I gotchu fam. Amazon has a pretty solid selection of cheap acrylic risers.
So I've been lurking here for a while, and recently purchased this humidor. Two things I was wondering about:
Any help would be appreciated.
You need an instant camera because who wouldn't love taking and printing spontaneous pictures!!
You really want Ugg slippers because warm and cozy!!
You really need a solar powered rainbow maker because it is winter and rainbows cheer everyone up!
These shelves were given to me as a gift back in 2013, and I've just decided to put them up now because they conveniently fit playing cards nicely. I'm not sure if these are the exact ones but I found these on Amazon which are the same dimensions and color.
Got ours on amazon in brown.. great corner shelves
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GIJBK50/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_XbACCb2MJ6SHA
I believe this is the one I have... but I would measure your display just in case it's not. It should fit really well on the shelf.
12-Inch W by 8.5-Inch D 3 Step Acrylic Riser Clear by Combination of Life https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014PXHVXQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Pi8tzbKX3DS83
oh cool--this is the one i have...it's only 12" wide. I like the option of an 18" wide one. Thanks!
I got them off of Amazon! The link is: NIUBEE 2 Pack Acrylic Riser Display Shelf for Amiibo Funko POP Figures, Cupcakes Stand for Table,Cabinet, Countertops - 3-Tier, Clear (12×8.75) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07559P21F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Gn6nDbMH1Z0GX. They’re a little expensive but they have really maximized my space and I like the stage setup.
I have Detolfs and I buy these for three-step risers.
Here is a photo.
I also have this set of 3 individual risers. It looks like they're slightly bigger than the ones you linked.
Here is a photo.
Hope this helps!
it's these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07559P21F/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . they fit nicely in the detolf!
uhhh changed my mind due to price and I dont have an etsy account, you'll probably get more customers if you use eBay or amazon.... I have several "plate" holders that came from someplace in my house...they hold more than one LP jacket and are sturdy and SUPER cheap...
You'll probably get more sales if you strikethru $25 and put NOW ONLY $8.99
http://www.amazon.com/Gibson-Holders-Display-Stand-6A-B/dp/B000RO6CEC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1459120370&sr=8-1&keywords=decorative+plate+holder
The culprits:

And thank you for the compliment
For a collection that size, do you maintain an inventory list? I only keep around 350-500 cigars on hand at a time, and keep a Google Spreadsheet that shows Name/Size/Quantity/Cost for each stick in my humidor. I find that this helps me figure out what I should be ordering without having to dig through the humidor. Around 3 times a year, I'll do a complete re-inventory to make sure I've tracked everything correctly.
I use a single large Sistema container which holds 18 cedar trays (these) stacked in 3 columns of 6. It holds 448 Toro-size (6x52) cigars.

Wow! I'm seasoning it with a shot glass filled with distilled water. The instructions say do it for a day. Will my cigars last in a ziplock if I Gould do it for 3 days? This is the humidor I have for reference:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002TOK352/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1409109274&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40
I bought mine from amazon and it has been amazing. I had to make a second divider for it but that's just a preference thing. Here's a link to the one I bought(I think its just the first one that comes up when you search 'humidor'): This is the one
It holds humidity well and only costs $30. I don't know what size you're looking for, but this is a great one
Try these.
2 Pack 12-Inch W by 8.5-Inch D 3 Step Acrylic Risers Clear by Combination of Life https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CSB0DL4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_fq96B5hFmyR7K
I can fit about 5 on each shelf and then whatever you want to put on the bottom shelf that it's sitting on
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014PXHVXQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
this is the link to the arcylic step display. Great quality!
I got these and can fit 32 funkos on one shelf now. Two of them will fit on one shelf... 16/each.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CSB0DL4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Bought off of amazon, good quality and not a bad price.
Combination of Life 3 Step Acrylic... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014PXHS98?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
Here. It works pretty well. I had to bend mine a little so it wouldn't wobble.
You could probably fit some steps like these on those shelves if you want a bit of verticality in your OOB display.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B014PXHVXQ?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd_title
This is the one I use and it’s amazing fits about 4-5 nendos each row if you carefully place them.
Thanks! I'll check through those.
I was looking at this one until you said no glass tops.
I came here to say this! You can also make one yourself, I've never tried it but people say that it's easy. Just make sure there's no metal in it...
Why wait until one time of the year? I have one of these and I love it. Kikkerland Solar-Powered Rainbow Maker (Amazon.com)
Yeah, for sure. It's something I found on Amazon awhile ago. Here's a link.
Get a book reading stand, works like a charm. https://www.amazon.com/Gibson-Holders-Display-Stand-6A-B/dp/B000RO6CEC/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1506722143&sr=8-6&keywords=book+stand
Here is an egg mold for a heart and star.
Pre-ordering is a minefield pretty much.
Amiami will mostly be the cheapest. Big in Japan sometimes has them beat.
http://biginjap.com/pvc-figures/7500-fate-hollow-ataraxia-saber-alter-swimsuit-ver.html
Shipping is 99% of the time cheaper on BIJ, HLJ and HS, but HLJ' prices are more expensive.
HLJ lets you cancel at any time from the control panel before they send you the invoice. But they can cancel on you if they run out of stock (I had a pre-order World is Mine cancelled on me by them due to that).
Whether price goes up or down is dictated usually by the market. Anything Alter, Saber, Limited will be more expensive aftermarket (Look at Saber Lily going 13k already).
Even popular figures go on clearance from time to time, just look at Madoka for under 6k yen :
http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0089IW922
Hope that helps. I pre-ordered her from amiami since I will combine her with another figure.
The best way to show off oob pops in my opinion.
Risers
Not sure if it would negatively affect how the disc based systems function, but some kind of raised-in-the-back, angled shelf display in each cubby would be a cool option to both eliminate some of that negative space and feature the full design of each console better. Something like this or this. Or you could even make your own out of wood.
this would be awesome, so I can mold my rice for the kids lunches <3
I'm an addict to so many things

Been using these and they’re awesome
This is a great shelf, you can buy 2 and keep extending it.

I would check out these risers. I use them to display figures a little smaller then amiibo and they look great.
If it is basic stainless steel as in supermarket knives etc. I find hardly a reason to go above 1k for sharpening and a good quality steel to keep it going.
And well you can get a solo King 1k for 12$ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OT1ZOC/
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B014PXHVXQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1525617001&amp;sr=8-3&amp;pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&amp;keywords=3+step+acrylic+riser&amp;dpPl=1&amp;dpID=31Om8NsYKqL&amp;ref=plSrch
Just got them but they are nice!
I use these three level risers, these fit the standard bases only, 3 level risers edit fixed link I also have this set, of 3 smaller risers as well just for other figures.
Fair point, but I find that the sheer amount of space action bases take up isn't very judicious - I was thinking of something like this but maybe closer to where I live (New Zealand)
What's your budget? This company will do it, but it's quite expensive: https://www.musicboxattic.com/custom-songs-tune-electronic-module-movement.html (click on the "Custom Mechanical Movement" tab).
If you can get by with a standard 18-note mechanism, I think you might be better off buying a cheap mechanism with a pre-installed tune (tons of these on eBay), and making a custom music roll for it. Maybe work with a jeweler.
There are also DIY kits for hand-cranked (not wind-up) mechanisms that use paper rolls: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HAUEFY/ref=psdc_3291682011_t3_B074WGH6SV
It might not be exactly what you're looking for but you could make a box and put one of these in it.
http://www.amazon.com/Kikkerland-Make-Your-Own-Music/dp/B000HAUEFY
You do have to be able to write the melody yourself, but its a good option.
I’m using these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XSJ2VCN
A pricier but probably nicer option: https://robotcandy.company/products/kickstand

Cool, I might pick some up, thank you. My humidor was also for Christmas:
http://smile.amazon.com/Quality-Importers-Desktop-Humidor-Capri-Glasstop/dp/B002TOK352/ref=pd_bxgy_201_img_3?ie=UTF8&amp;refRID=1HCR16Z8WCBVMZQGPFDH
I'm going to pick up some aquarium sealant for the glass. Maybe I'll put 2-69%'s in there if it leaks at all.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014PXHVXQ
Have ordered both sizes of this and had good experiences, just have to make sure you get the legs level when you screw them on, or your pops will tip over eventually.
The tiered ones are these. They're perfect for amiibo. The only downside is they're only the 3 rows, so I ordered the small ones to make a couple more rows.
The small ones are these. They're great, but I had to order a bunch of them, so just realize that.
That's chump change compared to the pricetags on the anime figures my brother loves collecting, and these ones actually have a function.
EDIT: one such figure
I got it on Amazon. Here’s a link :)
Go on cbid, you can get a deal. Or hit amazon thats what I got for my first humidor, it works well. Don't take advantage of the nice people on this sub.
Thanks man. I got them off Amazon.

I’ve posted the picture of how they look in this thread. They’re pretty decent.

I have a 13". I also have some wire display stands I use when I'm showing my stuff at comic cons. I took a spare one, bent the bottom straight, and taped it to the back.
It's a little hard to stick it into my bag like this but it works incredibly well to prop it up, and is very light.
Not sure that link is the actual stand, they come in multiple sizes. Right brand though.

I really like it, I have another one for the other Zelda amiibos.
