I don't really know that much about chairs, I just was in the market a while back and I tend to go WAY overboard with research. :)

That chair you have is about the exact same one I had, except yours is still in much better condition. Mine would sink and the arms were cracking. I also had a very uncomfortable sunken seat cushion, I had to sit on a pillow.

Yeah, those hjellegjerde chairs look nice and comfy, I don't know that I'd be able to force myself to actually sit up in one for hours...hell I'd be napping in the thing at the desk within a half-hour, probably.

As far as sticking to a high-back/leather/executive pillowy chair? I think your options will be limited in the adjustability department. You won't be getting gliding seat-pans or anything. Most of what I saw at a reasonable (under $500) price that was actually worth buying got you flip-up arms...and that's it. Those, by nature, are just "sit back or recline" chairs. You'll have to decide if you're happy with that style or not, because that's what they are.

I did see this cheaper Staples sold (I think) Serta with adjustable arms. So, they're out there, but at $200, you're not going to find an actual quality leather chair.
Serta

Now, if you start looking into the "racing chairs" style of leather chairs...those are not the same thing. A little less bed of cushion and more chair. Though, I'd argue there's always a better option at every comparable price-point than those (IMHO) horrendous looking "racing chairs". Maybe if I was 19 in a dorm room...I don't know.

Other than adjustable arms/recline/tilt, those racing chairs aren't doing much to justify the cost. You're also not finding an actual leather one for under $600. There are plenty of comparable vinyl/pleather $300 high-back/quasi-task chairs that'll do the same and much more. I didn't really look into them, as I wasn't buying one...but, I saw a fair bit of them in the $250-$500 range.

A bit higher and there are things in this shape, I have no experience with it though.
Leather ergos----
Another...I'd imagine, at that price-point I'd already be looking towards HMs/Steelcase/Humans...even if used. Proper leather chairs ain't cheap. I know I'd personally either go real or look into different materials...I'll never do the fake leather again.

Another option may be a fabric seat with the vinyl back-rest, if that interests you. In that scenario, you may see ones that will have an adjustable seat pan and separate tilt/recline/raise-able back portion. It may seem arbitrary, but, the ability to completely move, adjust, and lock the seat and back independently is a HUGE deal. You're fine without it...but to be able to dial in that half-inch of your legs hanging or your butt/lower-back fitting perfectly takes a relatively comfy chair into "like a glove" territory. Tilting is a good substitute, but doesn't compare, it becomes a tug-of-war between your upper and lower body's comfort.

I have no experience with the cheap $150-$200 racing chairs... I can't imagine they are good at all.

And I don't know why anyone would buy a genuine leather $600-800 racing chair...you're deep into Humanscale/Hermon Miller/Steelcase territory at that point, even approaching leather ones. If they like them, hey great, but it doesn't make sense to me at all.

Seems like walking past a well-crafted Porsche or Aston Martin to buy a $65,000 "high-end" Mustang. Different strokes I guess.

TL:DR- Chairs are tough to figure out. I went through 2 weeks of stress and mulling over options. Go sit in a LOT of them. Buy one with a good return policy and warranty. If used, make sure you love it...not just like it.

Go in with the perspective you're buying something you'll live with for at least 5 years, not just replacing your seat...spend and plan accordingly.

Seriously. 95% of gamer chairs are abysmal, and focus on aesthetics. Case in point - the padding is always thick on the back. This is important on an automobile where the acceleration pushes you back a bit, but a normal sitting posture means that your spine is pushing onto your rear primarily, even when you lean back. In terms of surface area for high-back chairs which this is, 2/3rds of it is the back - meaning that even if a chair has 50% of the padding that a gaming chair does, if they distribute 40% to the seat and 10% to the back, they're still more effective than their highly padded counterpart. Not to mention, a gaming chair STILL has a giant branding markup after the difference in material cost, meaning you're still paying a premium even after wasted material and design time is spent.

If you ever want a chair that focuses on function rather than form, always look for chairs that have far more attention paid to the seat. If you want a good deal as well as a good chair, the mesh backed ones are actually pretty fantastic - my favorite chair is the Aleera Elusion which only costs $166. I've used it daily for the past 3-4 years, and the armrests are the only part that are showing wear and tear (more my fault than the chair though, since when adjusting from sitting to cross-legged, I put my entire body weight on them).

If you want a durable, office standard chair, Steelcase makes a line of high durability, high comfort seating. I can't speak much for them, except that where I work is in love with Steelcase.

If you don't have money but still want a good chair that is also cheap, hunt them on Craigslist. It's frequent that when an office can't sell the previous set of chairs to a wholesaler, they just let people take them home (since they'd otherwise be tossed). Often, there's nothing wrong with the chairs if they bought office-grade durability, and you can get absurdly lucky and get stuff from a $300 chair for $20, or even a $1000+ executive chair for only $50.

All of these are options I would consider before a "gaming chair". They are the MacOS of chair, in that they aren't bad and they do have good qualities, but the majority of their market buys them because they don't know any better, not because they're actually going to take advantage of said qualities.

This one is definitely out of your price range, but I have seen it go for $150 on sale. It's stupidly comfortable, breathable (no back sweat), and supportive without being too hardcore. It's a great chair for us big and tall folks, because the mesh back goes up all the way to provide support to your spine and your head. The only reasons I replaced it with my DXRacer are that it (a) doesn't have adjustable arms and (b) needs just a little more lumbar support. But if you aren't three inches from your monitor like I am (bad eyes) that latter probably won't be a problem, and the arms only needed to be wider, not higher, to suit my shoulders. I used it for over three years, and it still worked as well as the first day without any maintenance, other than the occasional WD-40. Now that it belongs to my dad, he won't trade it for anything.

I've also heard good things about this chair from a friend, but I haven't tried it myself. It seems to suit his scrawny self perfectly, though.

And while I understand that budgets are a reality we all have to deal with, I'd recommend splurging a little on a quality desk chair. Your back and shoulders will thank you in the long run, particularly as you get older. I'm only 26, and I've already noticed a definite change in how much bad posture my body is willing to put up with.

u/wakwakwakwakwak · 1 pointr/AskBattlestations

My first recommendation would be to search Craigslist. I purchased awesome, super expensive chairs on the cheap...Humanscale Freedom and Steelcase Leap for $100 or less each! The big brands you should look for are Herman Miller, Steelcase, Humanscale, and Knoll. There are probably other great brands and chairs, but that should be a good starting point.

If you don't find anything, Amazon actually has a few chairs that are in your price range and are pretty good. The AmazonBasics chair (https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=chair) has good reviews. I personally have the Alera Elusion (http://www.amazon.com/Alera-Elusion-Series-Mid-Back-Multifunction/dp/B003G4OJK4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage), but it's a little more expensive. These aren't as ergonomic and comfortable as chairs from Humanscale or Steelcase, but they're definitely comfortable and get the job done.

u/JustSomeKiddd · 1 pointr/buildapc

Hi! Ergo nerd chiming in because it doesn't seem like a lot the people in this thread know what they're talking about. I've researched chairs extensively and the plain, but not so simple answer is - it depends. The two most important however are your height, and budget.

There's no one chair fit all, so really the best thing you can do for yourself is get a chair with as many adjustments as possible so you can sort of mold it around your body. A lot of chairs don't come like this out of the box, and usually the one's that do will break your wallet without any remorse.

Anyway, I'm 5'6", and poor, so I currently use this chair.

This is by far the best chair at the low end you can get, and I sit in it comfortably for 8-10 hours a day.

Also this nerd on youtube seems to know what he's talking about and has a few videos that give you the quick know how on what you should be looking for.

This article is really good for reference too!

Do yourself a favor and get decent lumbar support. Your body will thank you.

And as a side note. The chair I recommended is 1000x better than the Markus in every way possible.

u/ShotFromGuns · 60 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Welp, here's a bunch more stuff. That pretty much exhausts my useful Amazon purchasing history, the rest being media (books, music, movies, TV shows), health 'n' beauty type stuff that wouldn't be applicable to 99% of other folks, or items that are some combination of "not listed anymore" and "shit I wouldn't recommend."

u/Pyrokills · 2 pointsr/pcgaming

I honestly can't think of a reason to spend so little on a computer chair, unless you're a casual computer user and are sitting at it for at most 3-4 hours a day. Even then you should be ponying up the cash for something with adjustable back support if you don't want back issues.
I sit at my desk on average 8 hours a day and the cheap $200-$300 chairs from office depot etc last me at most 3 years but usually 2 before falling apart. I then spend another $200-$300 and at that point I pretty much could've bought the Rolls Royce of chairs. So if you sit for as long as I do or longer, just take the hit and buy a solid, expensive chair.

However I understand not everyone can afford that even if they try and budget for it. There are pretty nice chairs (from what I've read) in the $400 range that aren't junk gaming chairs. Here's a list I've found but keep in mind I have never owned any of these but have just heard good things about them.

Lorell Executive

Alera Elusion

ErgoChair

For the last one, the Ergo Chair. I've heard both great things about the chair but negative things about the company itself. The Chair/Company was kickstarted/crowdfunded and some reddit users complained of shady practices, but others got their chairs and loved it so take with that what you will. And as others have said, you can get the herman miller chairs, steelcase etc etc for the cheap and in good condition on craigslist and ebay etc. Companies sell them all the time.

u/nsivkov · 9 pointsr/battlestations

This chair is anything but ... it's the best damn chair ever. the arm pads are leather + memory foam and are up & down + 3 position left/right adjustable and are actually comfortable to place your hands on. the back & bottom mesh are awesome you can sit on it for 10 hours (like me) and you don't get swamp but from it. The build quality is simply amazing and it has the option for back support (which i have since my back hurts) it's the best damn investment i've made so far.

Since you play long session, its better you buy the most comfortable one and you will not feel back pain. I recommend mesh back chair. If you want comfort, stylish design without budget limitation I would recommend Ergohuman ME7ERG-W09-01W09-01 Black Mesh Hi Swivel chair from [Amazon] (http://www.amazon.com/Ergohuman-ME7ERG-W09-01W09-01-Black-Swivel-chair/dp/B002LK1YNO). I would say the best of the best for long term sitting. Since you have budget limitation try this [Aeron chair] (http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/herman-miller-aeron-chair). You can find a decent chair from [here as well] (http://www.artistsupplysource.com/category/50260/furniture-for-artists/?page=2). Just make sure you can sit in it all the way back, with your lower back fully supported.

u/Righteous_coder · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I'm a freelance web designer and gamer so I spend most of my time in my chair, this is what I use and have used the past 2 years with no issues. It's half the price and can lean very far back, scoot down in your chair and rest your head on the back for those of us who like to sit with terrible posture. It's not fancy but with my over 16 hours of sitting on average with an occasional break to get food and use the restroom, this chair does a great job. I highly recommend it. I've tried other chairs and most are either too firm or just plain uncomfortable. This is the best bang for your buck.

If you're dead-set on spending roughly $300 though these are the only chairs I think are really worth it. I've tested a few at Office Depot, I highly recommend you do the same so you're significant other can see what they really find comfortable. If I wanted to spend the money this is what I'd buy.

Can't really speak to low priced chairs but something like this would probably be best.

Note that the armrests fold back instead of adjusting down, meaning you won't have to worry about them bumping into the bottom of your desk. I've also found mesh office chairs tend to have better back support than cushioned ones, unless you're getting one with an adjustable back support cushion, like you see on all the DxRacer gaming chairs.

My home office is my music room. I used to keep all my music stuff in the basement in my old house and I never practiced. Now that everything is on the same level as our bedrooms in our current house, I practice all the time.

I always practice in front of my computer. As much as I don't want to stare at a computer when I come home from work (I'm a software engineer and use computers all day long), I'm in my office a lot, a computer is a useful tool for practicing, and having my guitar right there encourages me to practice more. Thus, I keep my main guitar on a stand right next to my desk where I can easily reach it without having to get up. I also have a music stand there as well. My desk is a motorized IKEA sit/stand desk so I can easily practice sitting down or standing up. All my other guitars are hanging on the wall in that same room; I hate keeping guitars in cases.

As for amps/effects, I'm currently going the software route and I'm content for now. I currently play through my PC but I've also used my iPad. I do sometimes wish I could just flick one switch on a physical amp and be ready to go but software works for me for now at least and it doesn't take me long at all to get going. I seriously considered something like a Yamaha THR10 or Katana but I already have a good iPad and PC and use both all the time. Heck, lots of times I practice unplugged or just using my audio interface's direct monitoring without any amp sims running.

For times when I want to practice in front of the TV or something, I use my iPad, an iRig HD 2, and Bias FX/Amp.

One thing I highly recommend if you're going to continue practicing in front of a computer is to get an office chair with flip-up arm rests. I have this one and I really like it.

I just looked for sales on Amazon. The problem is that prices can vary a lot (and spending a lot doesn't mean you get a great chair).

I bought this one in 2017, but I spent only $120 on it, not the $220 it is now. I love it, but wouldn't have spent twice as much on it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EUU5G82/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you happen to live near an office supply place (if retail still exists), they usually have floor models you can try out. Otherwise, I just watch Amazon for sales (again obviously prices really vary) and look for something that looks good. Ordering online unfortunately involves taking a little leap of faith as you can't try it out.

It doesn't hurt to throw in a little support for the backside as well. I cracked a tailbone when I was younger (a real pain in the a**!) so one of these are cheap and really make those longer sessions more comfortable.

Not an Aeron, but I highly recommend this one below. It's really well built, and has more levers than a jet cockpit. I've purchased 6 of them for different people / different offices and they all love them. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003G4OJK4

And yeah South Coast Auction is great too. Sometime hit or miss though. Check back

If you can't find a Herman Miller Aeron 2nd hand I would recommend this Lorell executive chair from [Amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0074GX2YE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) with the extra [headrest] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P85C6OU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I did a ton of research on best bang for the buck chairs at the beginning of med school and after looking through tons of reviews, this one seemed to have the most people who were satisfied years after purchase while fitting within my sub-200 budget.

I've sat it in everyday studying for >8 hours for almost 2 years now and it's still as comfortable as day 1. The seat and arm cushions haven't worn down at all. The mesh backing has stayed taut and is very breathable. The headrest is super comfortable. The adjustments are solid and it has a great recline. Set up is easy too. Obviously this is no Aeron but if you don't want to go 2nd hand, I think this is a fantastic option.

u/Ninjaba · 1 pointr/battlestations

I use the H3 model from this company. Looks like there's a newer H4 model that wasn't available yet when I purchased mine years ago. Not sure if the price difference is worth it over the H3, but you might as well get the H4 anyway.

The headrest is pretty sweet, it's fully adjustable and stays in whatever position you keep it in. Also the fabric and color are pretty much identical to the Aerons, it's like it was made by Herman Millar themselves.

u/DimitriTech · 1 pointr/funny

Jebus christ.. looking for a desk chair was the hardest thing! Took me weeks to decide on one, but ended up with this one and I like it, especially for the price. Don't know if i could've made a better choice for a little more but it's comfortable, forced me to sit better, and has a great weight to it.

u/Shanix · 0 pointsr/buildapc

I can recommend this chair for about 180 dollars (including tax). It can hold a good 400lb easy without creaking or showing signs of distress, the back is very breathable, and the cushion retains its shape very, very well.

I sit in this thing for maybe 8 hours a day, most every day. It's very comfortable, has good back support, and is an all-around good chair.

It's also cheap. Ish.

u/Neverlife · 1 pointr/buildapc

I was in the market for a chair about 6 months ago and it seemed to me like the options were;

  1. Find something on craigslist

  2. Buy something from a random Office Depot or Target or whatever

  3. Pay $300+ for a nice chair

  4. Buy this chair on Amazon (Edit: It was $150 when I bought it.. I swear)

I went with #4. It's not a phenomenal chair, but it's pretty good. I've been using it for 6 months with little issue, it's comfy, it stays cool, it has a bunch of settings so you can tweak it to fit how you sit. I give it a solid 7/10.

$100 won't get you very far and I'd probably just grab whatever feels nice at Office Depot. The Alera Elusion at $150 or the Ikea Markus at $200 have good reviews. Nicer chair are pretty buy it for life and will be more comfortable than cheap chairs, so I'd save $300-$400 and get a used Herman Miller or Steelcase. You'll probably spend more overall on cheap chairs that wear out than a nicer chair over its life span.

I have had an ErgoHuman ME7ERG since 2007 and it's still going strong today. Love, love, love this chair:

http://www.amazon.com/Ergohuman-ME7ERG-W09-01W09-01-Black-Swivel-chair/dp/B002LK1YNO

Purchased for around USD $500 back then; they're a little more today.

This is what I got. It is a chair within a chair so when you lean forward the secondary support leans with you supporting your lower back and it gently pushes you into a good posture for your back.
It is a little pricey but I have some pretty bad spine issues and this helps me a lot and offers support when you lean forward. It comes with an extra option for the half seat that supports when you lean forward, one thick padded firm support that you can slide off if it is too big. The seat cushion also tilts when you lean a little to force your spine somewhat upright.

The other back in motion chairs are a little cheaper but IMO not as comfy or supportive.

I've really liked the chair I got off Amazon.

It's held up extremely well so far and is still comfortable after being in it for 12 hours. It also only took 10 min or so to set up out of the box, which was awesome!

The only thing I might suggest to add along with it would be a foot rest or something to keep ya the most comfortable while studying for long periods.

u/mirkalieve · 1 pointr/gundeals

As someone who's tuned into deal sites: Yes, to some degree. But there's still plenty of good deals to be had. Especially when things don't go as planned. Don't you remember last year's Xbox One debacle? We're talking a free xbox one, and possibly additional credit, on top of extra controllers and games.

I also apparently got 24 bottles of VOSS Norwegian water this year for $3, and that stuff is supposed fancy or something. Ordered that for giggles.

Someone else got a Mini Segway for $160 iirc.

I nabbed one of their Big & Tall (up to 350lb) Office Chairs for $100, which isn't bad.

As for Prime Pantry? For some reason I keep getting a Fresh Credit of $6, no idea why, and that stacks with the $10 off $60 credit, so I can find some choice pantry items that are decently priced and get $16 off, and stack it with free shipping. And that's on top of the 5% off with my Amazon Store Card. I did four full orders, and my mail person hates me now.

Prime Day is not Black Friday. Black Friday is a day of both Purchases of Opportunity and Planned Purchases, due to general price cuts on everything (To some degree... Cyber Monday and beyond is where it's at currently at based off last year). Prime Day is only Purchases of Opportunity, as the thing you've wanted probably won't go on sale, but chances are if you check the deal sites enough you'll find things that you'll buy anyway because they're cheap enough.

Sidenote: This is what you guys should being paying attention to: Lowe's 10% off, which stacks with 10% Self-generated coupon codes (see top comment), which stacks with 7.5% cashback through ebates.

u/Jakomako · 1 pointr/buildapc

Honestly, your best bet is to go to a store that sells chairs and try them out. You should be able to tell which ones are sturdy enough for you, plus it'll be a lot easier to figure out what's comfortable.

I spend a lot of time in various conference rooms for work, and I was very pleased with this chair: http://www.amazon.com/Lorell-High-Back-Swivel-Chair-x28-1/dp/B0074GX2YE

I don't know how durable it is though because the place that had them had just bought them a few months prior.

u/rebelx · 1 pointr/buildapc

Can someone please comment on the following chairs?

I currently use the Staples Torrent, but after spending the past two months in it for more than 12 hours/day studying, I realized that I can't do that anymore. It needs to go. My shoulders and back hunch forward and my thighs start to hurt after a bit as well. It was great in the beginning--granted I never sat this long for such an extended period of time--but now it's just aggravating.

I don't want leather/"leather" anymore. I need ventilation. Mesh only. I wish someone had told me this sooner.

I'm looking at this from Amazon (Lorell LLR86200 or its newer variant (actually, based on the reviews it might be a different model style entirely) the LLR86205. The first chair in particular has a significantly number of positive reviews.

From Office Depot, we have the Realspace Pro Quantum 9000 Series that was recommended previously by a redditor. Lots of reviews on the site, but also much more expensive as it's $279 from them.

From Staples, the Staples branded Hyken which has favorable reviews and the Acadia, but some people have commented about it not being great for sitting too long.

Lastly, I just discovered Madison Seating from a redditor comment, but I have never heard of it nor know why their prices are significantly lower than the competition. For example, the Herman Miller Mirra at $499 or the Leap Steelcase v2 at $575.

I just want something that will not cause me pain anymore.

For the most part, my budget from Amazon is $250 (max). If it's something that costs a little bit more, that'd be OK--it'll eventually go on sale and I can pick it up at the lower price.

Everywhere else (Staples/OD/etc) it's a budget of $150-200 if at all possible.

If it's for one of the higher end chairs (e.g., from Madison Seating), I'd really have to think about it and see if the jump from any of the listed chairs makes a difference.

EDIT: Online review of Madison Seating show that they take used chairs, refurb them, and then sell as new. I'll skip that retailer.

u/Norumu · 3 pointsr/buildapc

I splurged and got myself one of those stupid expensive Herman Miller Aeron chairs.

I do not regret it a bit. The mesh is wonderful in this warm environment I live in, it helps me keep extremely good posture (much better than my slinking I'd do before), is super adjustable for your needs, and still feels like new despite putting in hundreds of sitting hours.

u/thecraiggles · 2 pointsr/nfl

Anyone have any recommendations for a good office chair? Need to pick one up for when I start working from home
This is what I've picked out at the moment
I love the high back - I'm 6'5" so that would be great for me. But I'm all ears if anyone has a better suggestion!

u/shenuhcide · 1 pointr/flexibility

Not sure if these will help, but here's an article of a few stretches you can try.

Anecdotally, here are things I do to make my lower back feel good:

  1. Sleep with a pillow between my legs. I convinced my boyfriend to do this and he wonders why he hasn't been doing it all his life.

  2. Switch to a more ergonomic chair at work. The one I have looks something like this. I've also tried a fitness ball, but found that to be too distracting and a little short for my desk. I'm also considering to changing to a standing computer setup (an elevated work station in which I stand the whole day rather than sit), but that's a bit more of a commitment than a $60 chair.

  3. At home, on a carpeted surface or some sort of fitness mat, lay down and hug your knees to your chest. Now slowly rock side to side and in a circular motion, making sure to put a little pressure on your lower back. This releases so much tension for me.

  4. When looking for stretches, look for ones that "open up" the hips and stretch out your hip flexor muscles such as these.
u/Lemr1x · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Hi,
if you want top, but expensive chair you should go for Steelcase (http://www.amazon.com/Steelcase-Leap-Fabric-Chair-Black/dp/B006H1QYBA) or Herman Miller (http://www.amazon.com/Aeron-Task-Chair-Herman-Miller/dp/B0014YGGKE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1451676984&sr=8-3&keywords=herman+miller). Its really expensive for chair, but you dont need to buy new chair ever again.

If you want something cheaper Ikea Markus is fairly popular and not bad especially for the money (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60309732/#/70261145).
The middle ground in my opinion would be some ergonomic chair from brand like Office Pro (or your regional equivalent) - for this your best shot is just go to the chair store, try chairs in your price range, sit, lean and test and than take your favourite.
Personally, Im not fan of "gaming chairs" I think you can get better chair in same price range, when you go for office or ergonomic chair.
I hope this helped and wasnt too long and boring to read!

u/armyboy941 · 4 pointsr/buildapcsales

>My belief now is that your investment in a computer chair is as important as investing in a GPU.

So many people don't understand this part. If you're going to be sitting for a long time for work or gaming, you need something that won't kill your back. Don't skimp on 2 things in life, a good mattress and a good computer chair.

My motto is if you can sleep in the chair and not wake up feeling like shit, it's a good chair.

Shameless plug if this chair doesn't suit and y'all have the budget for it. I highly recommend this chair since this is one I've had for almost 3 years and absolutely love it.

u/LiswanS · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I think it is definitely worth the splurge on a nice chair, but I think under $200 is reasonable and gets you a lot of good options. u/robdizzle666 · 3 pointsr/battlestations

6' 5" here as well, I work in a used office furniture store. Herman Miller Aeron is one of the best chairs out there, they range around 400$ used. Personally I found this Boss chair to extremely comfortable, the headrest and added lumbar support are amazing. It's nowhere near the quality of Herman Miller though sadly.

Depending on your size, the Aeron chair comes in size B or C. I'm 300 Lbs so the size C suits me.

When I was looking for a good chair I thought about the DX Racer. I really wanted one but looking back I'm kind of glad I didn't get one they seemed a bit to exaggerated. I ended up getting one from amazon, that to this day I really like. it's kind of big and "bulky" but pretty damn comfortable where I can easily sit in every night for 5+ hours.

A big problem I think is that DX Racers are mostly given to streamers/youtubers for free or at a very discounted price and one can't complain about something free.

This is the chair I got.

Please don't buy one of those "gamer" chairs, this is for every major purchase, do NOT buy into the gamer bullshit. Those chairs may look good and sturdy, but they're everything but the best. Save your money and buy a proper ergonomic desk chair.

I hate how everyone is advertising these things, only because they're gamery.

Look at something like this
and this instead.

Buying into gaming chairs is just like buying into Gamer peripherals, like audio and keyboards. High prices, over the top looks but mediocre performance and awful build quality.

u/puh-tey-toh · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Everyone suggesting a used Herman Miller/Steelcase is certainly giving you the best advice, but if you're like me and couldn't find a used one in your city, this chair is fantastic for the money. I tested it against the Ikea Markus and it blew it out of the water in terms of build quality, IMO. And it's cheaper.

u/Furryhen · 1 pointr/pics

I have a kneeling chair that I love. Mine is from the 80's, but it's something like this and it is surprisingly comfortable.

u/Jalamba · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Holy, no way, chairs are super important, especially if you are going to sit for multiple hours. In the long run, having a good chair will improve you long term health and should stop back pain. And with him bring 12, it's better to have a good foundation earlier so he doesn't much up his life.

Anyways, I am also looking for another chair and I've narrowed it down to two for 100-150 (96-143 Euro i believe).
here's one

If not, an AkRacing sounds good

u/DocMcNinja · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I'm moving and I'll need to get myself an office chair, too. I've made some research on this, and apparently good chairs cost closer to $1000 when new, but can frequently be purchased for $400 or less used. One specific model that's apparently among the best there is in that price range is Herman Miller's Aeron. Miller's Mirra would be a little less fancy, while still great for someone who's only used cheap chairs before, and with a less shocking price tag.

For people who can't afford that kind of monies, there is the already mentioned IKEA Markus. The cheaper price comes with drawbacks such as non-adjustable and shorter lasting arm rests. The expensive chairs have pretty much adjustable everything. I would be wary getting an used MARKUS, since I've heard of so many with worn out coating. Apparently it doesn't take many years until it starts to show visible wear and tear.

Around $200 seems to be the price point under which I won't be able to find the kind of chair I want new. Apparently that's the point under which the quality and life span of the product starts to go so low it won't be worth it. I'll be sitting on that chair for a large portions of my time, it's not worth a couple hundreds to spend so much of my life uncomfortably and possibly in an unhealthy position.

When looking at the prices, it's good to keep in mind that especially the more expensive chairs are often perfectly good when bought used, but come usually considerably cheaper. The lower quality cheap chairs usually have a shorter life span, so getting them used might just mean you'll need to get another soon when it breaks down.

Also, as a random thing my research has unveiled so far, a head rest might not be a desirable thing to have in a chair, as apparently it's healthier to sit without one.

Mid-Back Black Mesh Swivel Task Chair with Mesh Padded Seat and Flip-Up Arms https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KUPS3JU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_qWliybVTAFPMA

I'm a big fan of this chair. The arms fold up so I can play guitar sitting in it and it rolls under the desk top nicely. It's very comfortable and stays cool. My old chair used to make me sweat cause the back and base were leather material. The one I linked is just fine, at least for me.

u/bl1ndside · 1 pointr/funny

This is the chair you want. The office I work at purchased the mid-back version and I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it was. Since I'm a slacker I like to have a high back so I can lean back. I've used the same chair now for over 2 years and it's still going strong. Little to no wear and I expect it to last a while longer.

u/mikefromearth · 1 pointr/gaming

This chair is probably unbeatable for the price.

The Alera Elusion Series Mesh Mid-Back Multifunction Chair.

It's breathable, super comfortable, very adjustable and very well-built.

I've been using one for a year now and I love it.

u/jcskifter · 5 pointsr/battlestations

I am the proud owner of two Herman-Miller Aeron chairs (don't be fooled, you can really only use one at a time) and they are very comfortable and highly adjustable. That said, there's one complaint. For my height 5'11", the way my head lands on the back of the chair is extremely uncomfortable. I solved this by purchasing aftermarket add-on head rests that matches the styling of my chairs. Those too are adjustable and end up being the perfect upgrade from a business chair to a battle-ready captain's chair. I truly find this much more ergonomic than one of the racing style 'gaming' chairs.

Sure...I think the first one I got was this one and I just bought this one, just because it was a little less ugly.
)
They are cheaper than I remember, actually! I think they are both equally good. I also tried this one, which I didn't like because the padding was too thick--it just didn't quite work with my body type--but it might be good for someone larger.

I'd definitely recommend trying one, especially at these prices--using one really made a difference for me. It takes a few days to get used to it--your knees might hurt in the beginning, but that stops after a short time, especially if you take breaks, and also your back muscles may need to learn how to support your body, but that's a good thing. Overall I think the chair essentially forces you to have good posture, and that's huge for most types of back pain
u/TittiesInMyFace · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

I really love this chair (SPACE AirGrid), especially for the price point off amazon. Great build quality, design, and back support. After 3 years of heavy usage my only complaint is that one of the arm rests has started to crack a bit. That said, if I could afford a Herman Miller or Global, I'd probably get that.

u/caffpowered · 3 pointsr/battlestations

Reddit liked my last battlestation, so I decided to post my new, more portable solution.

My new battlestation was made under slightly more constraints. Everything I own fits into a single suitcase, as I moved to a New York City for work. When I got here, I found that my two laptops made a very unergonomic and uncomfortable workstation. TO remedy that problem, I sourced a few parts of Amazon.

I bought a stand for my tablet, two laptop stands meant for DJs, a wireless mouse and keyboard and a kneeling chair. Everything breaks down and fits into my suitcases except for the chair, which I would probably leave behind if I am forced to move again.

The tablet is used as a TV. I use it to watch documentaries, shows streamed from youtube, hulu, netflix or thepiratebay. The internal speakers on the tablet are a bit quiet, so I have them streaming to a Logitech UE Boom Mini. I've owned the two laptops since starting university - a Lenovo x200, and a x201 I bought a few years later to replace the x200 when it stopped detecting a battery. They're both pretty old now, but the x201 still manages to play league of legends (barely). The x200 (right) is hooked up to a set of Steelseries Siberia v3 headphones that I use for skype, or music / shows when my roommates are watching something else on the big TV, or are having loud sex. A small and surprisingly weak fan is constantly plugged in and does do a bit to keep me cool. I'll have to revisit the cooling solution when summer hits again.

I've considered upgrading the laptops, but then I figured I shouldn't be spending a lot of time inside gaming anyways. Instead, I bought a new snowboard for the upcoming season.

I'm also in the market for a new chair. I'm sick of the fake leather (PU Leather, Bonded Leather, etc) chairs that ive unfortuantely been using for far too long and my back is forever thankful for it. I've looked at chairs ranging from $100 up to $900 and while I do enjoy the borrowed SteelCase Leap that im currently sitting in, I could never justify the price for this thing. Dont get me wrong, its built like an tank and will likely last decades instead of years, But its just not for me.

If you want a chair like the SteelCase Leap, they can be found for very reasonable prices used for as low as $275 here: https://designerseating.com/collections/work/products/steelcase-leap-v1-office-chair-black-fabric
So many great chairs sat in board rooms, offices, etc and were hardly used and are widely available.

I agree that a plant would work perfectly, this setup is screaming for some color.
Switch the placement of the TV and desk (watch TV in bed, homie!), and add a curtain over all the windows (especially where the TV would go, to avoid sun burning your eyes out when you wake up)
And swap out the black chair for a brown desk chair.

I have a high back mesh chair made by Lorell and added on a headrest. I've had mesh chairs at work for years and I'm a big fan. It's not plush like a big leather chair, but it's still comfortable and breathes so well. This chair has good adjustability; the seat can be moved forward/backwards independent of the back and then it has your standard adjustments.

I'm a really big fan of this chair and have stocked an office of programmers with it to ensure everyone is comfortable. The 'Black Leather' is the way to go because the black mesh will end up hurting your elbows if you rest on them for long periods of time. I am 6'5" and rock this chair. I can't really put my head back on it, maybe a gaming chair could do that. But the back support and comfort is amazing. It has adjustable lumbar.

u/kingrex1997 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I personally use this one and I think it's pretty good, used it for about a year now. better than any $100 gaming chair I've used.

edit: fixed link

u/Lozerien · 5 pointsr/tall

I walked in to the office furniture store in my town, the 6'6" salesman spotted me, and sat me this chair. The seat height is 64 cm, which fit me perfectly. Since it's my personal property, I carry it from job to job.

This chair has an unusually high back and long seat. It's made in Taiwan, of all places; a quick check on Amazon UK does not show it available there.

Try and office furniture stores that cater to City (yes, I realize you're 400 miles away from there) firms, this is the only other place I've been to other than Amsterdam and Sarajevo where I didn't feel unusually tall.

But, not to despair; most office chairs have a standard 50mm diameter seatpost, you can replace the stock seatpost with a longer one.

I still haven't decided - the DX Racer Iron Series is my favorite so far. I really want something in white + green, though.

I don't see how E-Sports chairs are a solution compared to getting an actual good office chairs with ergonomic support.

I mean, there's some crossover there, but...

I've had the same office ergo chair for 5 years now and it hasn't fallen apart yet. Total no-name brand too.

Huge fan of this chair below. It was the only chair my dad would buy for the employees at his former workplace. He recommended I buy one so I did. I used to have it at home but I took it to work because our chairs were trash. Thinking about buying another for home. I sit in it for 8-11 hours a day and I’m always comfortable.

Wirecutter recommendations from 2012: http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-office-chair-is-the-steelcase-leap/

They like the Steelcase Leap the best. It's about $900 but you can sometimes find them on craigslist for $200-300.

They also say the Ikea Markus is great value at the price point of $200. It used to be $150 sometime last year, maybe it'll go on sale again. There are fabric version of the Markus that are a little cheaper.

Other people on reddit and various forums have stated their like for these from Amazon. Affordable and with some adjustments in the $150 range.

The Office Star Space Professional

The Lorrell Executive

The Herman Millers are outdated and overrated. The DX Racers are gimmicky and embarrassing. They are like the Beats of chairs. There is a reason racing seats are used in cars, the sides bolster you in place because of momentum during high speed turns. On a chair though, it's just pathetic.

Personally, I'm now leaning towards the Ikea Volmar. It seems to be a higher end chair to the Markus and you can find it on the site with headrest and armrest, only headrest, or without either.

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S09896320/#/S69896317

Also found some generation 2 Leaps on craigslist I might check out, listed for $225. But I think I want a headrest for sure.

Depending on how much they're willing to spend, I'd highly recommend a Herman Miller Aeron with headrest. It's one of the best ergonomic chairs on the market that has a 'reasonable' price.

u/throttlekitty · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I bought one of these last year, and I'm happy with it. I opted not to get the armrests that swivel out and kind of wish I did. The seat and back don't unlock for a full backward tilt, so I can't do that lean back with a controller thing like i could with other chairs.

If you're able, check with your local office supply stores that aren't major chains, though those aren't terrible (best buy, office max etc). I found a place that does their own work alongside being an office supply, so they're using all the products they're showcasing. I couldn't afford most of their high end stuff, but ended up talking with practically everyone there and trying out a bunch of neat sit-stand desks.

Anyway, I learned the salesman as a dealer can customize some parts of the order instead of the usual pret-a-portier orders. Some manufacturers have this on their own sites, but you tend to pay a higher premium. Or the salesman's commission in my case, but I don't mind since I went for advice on a chair and got plenty. (well this ended up being a longer post than I meant)

u/worksysadmin · 13 pointsr/sysadmin

The Herman Miller Aeron is the gold standard.

However, I have a Alera Elusion from Amazon. It's got all the adjustability of a much more expensive chair; adjustable Seat pan, adjustable back, the seat pan angle and back reset angle are individually adjustable etc.

I don't think at all that a 600$ chair is that expensive for a chair. Just think about how many hours you'll be using that thing. If you work from home it's completely worth it.

If we where to only use it one year and only when on working time with a regular 40hour work week you'd get: 52 * 40 = 14600 hours. 624$(the chair TB recomended) / 14600 is just a 4.2 cents per hour of use for good support and personal health while in that same time making a bit more money than you spend.

u/MrxPenguin · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Although they're both pretty much at your max budget, both of these options are really good chairs.

I link this every now and again on here, it's basically the US Department of Labors guide to giving your office workers seats that don't fuck up their backs and necks and make you liable for millions: https://www.osha.gov/SLTC/etools/computerworkstations/components_chair.html

I'd personally recommend something like this. You don't need to pay that much though, usually you can get one that was lightly used in an office for a few years for about half that price online.

Honestly those gaming chairs seem to tick all the boxes on the OSHA, I'd absolutely say go for one. Only reason I'm not using one is because I'm a grown ass man.

u/ductyl · 1 pointr/PSVR

I ordered this one from Amazon for my VR chair, primarily for the flip up arms (so it could be used in "cockpit" games, as well as "flail your arms around" games). I'm really pretty happy with it for this purpose.

I chose to leave the wheels off when assembling it, so that it will "stay put" in the prime VR camera zone, but still allow rotation.

u/iShad · 1 pointr/battlestations

Yeah, it's a third party add-on here. Really well made though kind of pricey for what it is.

u/mmtree · 1 pointr/buildapc

this alera from amazon is the best chair ive bought, and i've gone through manyyyy Fully adjustable, breathes even in the heat, good quality build. I dislike leather chairs as they tend to compress on the seat and many "in store" chairs do not have independent seat and back adjustments.

u/cpaul37 · 1 pointr/gaming

So the bad news is you wont find anything under $120 (I'm assuming USD) that's designed to support your weight. If you do find something comfortable it will probably wear out quickly. If you're willing to go a little more expensive though, you can get this chair for $192 on Amazon right now. This is the chair I used for several years before switching to a standing desk. It's designed to support someone up to 350lbs and the armrests are wider apart than most chairs so you won't be cramped. The frame is all metal and feels extremely sturdy. It was the only sub-500 dollar chair I've ever used that I could sit in all day without problems.

EDIT: I'm 6'4" and ~280lbs, so I say the above as someone about your size.

Price is not at its best right now for the chair, check camelcamelcamel. I’ve been using this setup for awhile now and it’s got tons of adjustments and support. Highly recommend as it’ll cost you about $200 total even though the prices aren’t at their lowest. This isn’t a “gaming” chair, it’s just a fully featured comfortable office chair, which is what you really want anyway.

u/TurtleInTraining · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

What's your budget?

The best chair I've sat on was the Aeron chair by Herman Miller. These were a chair provided to me by my employer in the office. This is an ergonomic chair that focuses on back health and has a mesh construction to avoid sticking and allows for better breathing. This is around $1,000, unfortunately.

I own a Aeron alternative that I'm sitting on that is a pretty good alternative. It's closer to $400, but it's an office max exclusive chair called the WorkPro Quantum. Has most of the ergonomic features the Aeron does.

u/callahandsy · 0 pointsr/buildapc

I currently have this chair and I love it. I’ve only had it for about 5 months, so I can’t comment on how well it holds up long term, but so far I’ve had no problems. I find it very comfortable, especially on my lower back.

I’ve heard good things about Herman Miller chairs as well, but they seem pricey.

u/BabyJesusStig · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I was where you are currently and I went and looked at a friends DX Racer....sure it is nice but when I really looked at it, besides the aesthetics of it, it was the same chair I had at home. I swear most of the parts were the exact same.

This is what I have... if I remember right it was actually a little cheaper...perhaps it was on sale...anyways I got it about 3 years ago and I have had to tighten one screw on it a few times but other than that it is a great chair.

Side note, I chose that one just because it was white/black and I wanted to keep my PC room theme going...

u/abcteryx · 2 pointsr/videos

You'd be happier with a "traditional", well-reviewed chair in the $100-$200 Alera Elusion (High-back). Try searching the make/model of chairs on Reddit to get some differing opinions. I did some research on office chairs when I got mine a couple years ago. Long story short: generally a $50 chair is going to suck, stay away from "race" chairs, and if you've got a grand to drop then go with something like Herman Miller. But Alera isn't bad, and is in a reasonable price range.

u/cricketwisperer · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

I've owned the Aeron before, now own the Leap v2. I also sit on the Aeron all day at work.

Out of these two, I prefer the Leap much more. The leap is just more comfortable and fits better (despite the Aeron being offered in 3 sizes to the Leap's 1 size).

The build quality of the leap is the one drawback. The seat bottom and armrests have a little bit of play, which is quite annoying considering the cost.

This guy's ("Jimmy K") review is spot on:

u/tpbutch · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Sorry, my last sentence wasn't worded well--just fixed it. Meant that the Aeron is a great choice. The chair I ended up buying was from Amazon Don't let the ugly scare you :)

u/x3lr4 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

There's only one chair of the "ergonomic class" that is affordable and much cheaper than all the other insanely expensive chairs and that's the Ergohuman.

I've spent a lot of money on different chairs and a lot of time on research and at some point I was ready to spend thousands of dollars on a Herman Miller Aeron, which is probably the best chair in the world. But what really nagged at me is that it didn't come with a head support. There are aftermarket head supports for it, but, well ....

And then the Ergohuman was on sale on Amazon on Black Friday for just 350 €, so I just got it, because that's insanely cheap for an ergonomic chair. Even at its regular price of 570 € it's a steal. Of course the quality isn't anywhere near the Heman Miller and it has its flaws, but my back pains are gone.

Now after 3 years of usage, I'm oiling and adjusting it, to keep it going well. It makes that strange click sound when I lean back, but other than that it's still standing strong.

There's nothing, and I repeat nothing, in this price range that can even compare. So if you're on a budget, you don't need to look any further.

Honestly, its probably not worth it. Materials alone will likely far exceeded the cost of a new chair, even using fake leather its probably still going to cost more just buying the fabric, let alone time and effort. A whole new chair like that will probably only cost ~$100.

Here's one for $80 that's on sale right now. Office Depot/Staples/Office Max are a good place to go try them out and fine a comfortable one if buying online is not your favorite.

Yep, they’re all practically the same and very uncomfortable. I ordered one recently https://www.amazon.com/Ficmax-Ergonomic-High-back-Retractible-Footrest/dp/B07228D99F and I should have done a bit more research because I didn’t know the whole controversy on gaming chairs. It’s fine for sitting an hour, but for more than an hour I started to get uncomfortable. I find more comfort sitting on my thin ass bicycle seat when I go 30+ miles cycling. Ha! it's an older chair, so the closest thing I can find is this Alera Elusion Series Mesh Mid-Back Swivel/Tilt Chair, Black: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003G4OJK4/ref=dp_cerb_2

I'm too cheap to spend $500 on a chair. I've got these and I couldn't be happier. I think they're just as comfortable as the $700 Herman Miller chairs I had in previous jobs. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PWGZOI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

> Herman Miller Aerons

Not really what I am looking for, nor do I think its what iggins is looking for. We're looking for something like this where you can fully lean back your head, while still being in a position to see and work.

It's a Herman Miller Aeron. I'd looked for a used on craigslist since this retails around $1000.

The headrest looks like Engineered now's, which is another $150 or so. https://www.amazon.com/Engineered-Now-Headrest-Classic-Herman/dp/B005L9ATK6/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1539457588&sr=8-4&keywords=herman+miller+aeron+headrest

Source: I have both.
