Alright my man. Since you have such a low budget ($700) but don't want your apartment to look like crap, your best bet is going to be minimalism. You're in a great sub for minimalist inspiration. Take this recent post, for example. Not everyone was super impressed, but I'd say he did pretty good for a budget of $195. At the very least we can say with 100% certainty that it looks better than the average undergrad apartment.

I took the liberty of checking out the Halifax craigslist offerings and they are far and few between. However, I did find a potentially decent desk: see here. You might be able to haggle down the price a little with some luck. Otherwise, you might want to look at Amazon for desks (example 1 and example 2). For a desk chair, you could look at Amazon, but you might be better off going somewhere local (even if you go to Walmart) because you want to make sure a desk chair is going to be comfortable.

For a mattress, I'd again suggest Amazon. I'm just not sure you're going to find any better deals than what they have to offer. Mattress buying also involves a lot of personal preference, but "big box" mattress stores are incredibly overpriced. It seems that memory foam mattresses (such as this) are the most inexpensive, so I would look around Amazon to see what you think you'll like. I think I saw a mattress for as little as $99.^(though personally, I'm not sure I'd trust it...) Keep in mind that you will either need (a) a box spring and bed frame or (b) a platform bed in addition to the mattress. With your budget, a platform bed will probably be your best bet. You can even get one with a "headboard" for pretty cheap (the headboard will definitely up your apartment's style a little bit and keep it further away from "garbage apartment of undergrad" level): see here and here.

Alright, I'll break down what we've done so far. I'm in the US and don't know that much about Canadian dollars, so I'm doing this in USD - hopefully it's close:

  • $150 for desk
  • $50 for desk chair
  • $180 for mattress
  • $170 for bed frame

That leaves you around $150 for other items. I assume you have basic human needs covered (bed sheets-do not sleep on a bare mattress!- and towels), so you could use this money for more furniture or for decor. I would probably try get some attractive and functional bedding (please do not get anything polyester!) in a minimalist pattern. Ikea is really unbeatable for this - see here and here. For a couch, I would either consider Amazon or start scouring Craigslist every day. I would probably forego a coffee table until you have other things that will improve your quality of life (dining chair/table, television, etc.); you really don't need one.

Anyway, these are just a couple of suggestions. Hope this helps!

1.) Something that is grey: Sculpy! From my cosplay wishlist! :D

2.) Something reminiscent of rain: This hair accessory from my Silly Fun list! I don't know if they're meant to, but the blue bits remind me of raindrops. <3

3.) Something food related that is unusual: Food picks from my Silly Fun list! Maybe not super unusual in Japan, but here in America I doubt you'd see them often.

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself: This book off my Books wishlist of course! It's for my husband, who's a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls games. I like them, too, but I doubt I'd ever read this.

5.) A book I should read: The Invisible Gorilla, again, off my Books list. I read almost a third of this book while hidden in a book store one day. It's an absolutely fascinating study (or rather, collection of studies) about how much trust we place in our own faulty intuitions.

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related: Barely, but this nautical star decal! Unfortunately, it's not on any of my lists.

7.) Something related to cats: Another from my Books wishlist! I'm pretty sure I already know my cat wants to kill me, but this book looks funny anyway.

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it: Stationary, from my Silly Fun list. I have no one to write to, but I have an obsession with pretty stationary and cards and things. I'm usually too afraid to write on it, even, because nothing ever seems worthy of the pretty paper...

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life: From my Movies/TV list: Braveheart! Because FREEEDOOOOOOM!!!!!

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain: Survival knife from my Adventure wishlist! Secluded, unpopulated areas are best for hiding from zombies, and this thing even comes with a firestarter! HOW CAN YOU SAY NO?

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals: This book which is, strangely, on my Semi-Practical list. I'm a Math/Physics major, but I haven't been in school in quite a while. I'm about to go back very soon, and I'm a little petrified of failing out.

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items: Red Heart yarn from my Crochet wishlist!

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item: The PS4 from my Video Games list. I'm an avid gamer. Video games are how I relax. It's one of the few things that, no matter how crappy my day was, always manages to raise my spirits and help me forget about it all.

14.) Something bigger than a bread box: Apparently bread boxes are way bigger than I thought, so I'll go with this desk off my Semi-Practical wishlist. Surely that's big enough! XD

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball: Turtle earrings off my Silly Fun list! THEY'RE SO CUTE!

16.) Something that smells wonderful: Teavana's Blueberry Bliss tea off my Silly Fun list (yet again). If you've never been in a Teavana store, go this second and just...inhale. <3

17.) A (SFW) toy: Frog mitt from my Practical list. I'm fairly certain this isn't supposed to be a toy, but I get the feeling I'm going to spend more time using it as a puppet than as an oven mitt.

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school: This backpack from my Semi-Practical list! I want it so badly!! IT'S STUDIO GHIBLI HOW AWESOME IS THAT?

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be: 12 Hole Ocarina from my Ocarina wishlist. It's so beautiful and it comes with a Lord of the Rings songbook and I just LOVE IT SO MUCH.

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand: Shark sleeping bag from my Silly Fun wishlist! You need me to explain it's awesome?? REALLY? IT'S A SHARK SLEEPING BAG. It looks like the shark is eating you!! Plus it's called the "Chumbuddy" and that just makes me laugh way harder than it should.

Fear cuts deeper than swords!

Reasoning for this parts list:

The i5 7500 is a great chip for both gaming and content creation, as it packs plenty of power under the hood without being extremely expensive like an i7. If you can fit an i7 into the budget after all your peripherals are decided on, however, go for it.

In this case, a CPU cooler is really unnecessary because that particular CPU is locked. I've added in the Hypoer T2 because it'll be quieter than the stock cooler, but if you're okay with the extra noise, you can drop it and save another $20 for your peripherals.

Motherboard chipsets don't really affect performance unless you're an overclocker. It doesn't seem like you'll need more than just peripheral attachments and the usual ethernet compatibility, so this B250 board will do the job without breaking the bank.

16gb DDR4-3000 memory- This is probably the best value option I could find on PCP. 16gb is plenty of capacity for doing video editing, and definitely will be fast enough at 3000mhz.

Grabbed a 240gb SSD for use as a boot drive and for program access (games and editing software, in your case). This will chop your load times significantly and make your computer feel much more responsive than loading off a hard drive. Also noteworthy: If you have a preference towards a specific brand, most 240gb SSD's are around this price mark, so this one is more or less a placeholder.

Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm drive- 2TB, as requested, with a 64mb cache for slightly faster retrieval of commonly used files. Also, this one is made by one of the two hard drive giants in the industry and has a very good reputation as a reliable drive.

Gigabyte GTX 1080 Windforce- This GPU will obliterate games, and provide ample power for rendering and for pushing the listed 1440p monitor.

SeaSonic G-750 PSU- SeaSonic's brand name is all about high quality and reliability. This PSU will last you years to come while having very good energy efficiency (this will reduce heat output and electricity costs significantly). This particular model is semi-modular, meaning that peripheral power cords like SATA and PCI-E 6/8 pin connectors aren't hard wired into the unit- you can remove them if you're not using them. This makes for an easier build and a cleaner looking case if you opt for a side window panel.

~~LG 34UC79G- This one was a bit harder to find something I'd approve of. Of course, at 1080p, it's not the highest resolution, but it is capable of displaying up to 144fps. If framerate is less important than resolution, there are other 1440p monitors available closer to 75hz that will do just as nicely, for about the same price.~~

I didn't budget in a copy of Windows 10 because it can be downloaded for free and run unlicensed without holding your computer hostage (you just lose some customization features like wallpapers and stuff). If you want a legit copy, you can purchase a key for about $110 retail or $90 for an OEM key.

EDIT: Ended up cherry-picking the ASUS PB227Q 27" monitor from Ye_untaken_username's build, because higher resolution and lower price. The monitor I'd previously specced is nice but overkill for someone who's not a hardcore gamer.

Also added in a Fractal Define Mini C because they're nice, and small, without requiring an ITX board that will have you spend 2x more on the motherboard. If you want a bigger case, you can get a Core 2300 for even less than this case, just without some of the nicer features of this one.

I didn't add in a case and peripherals because those are highly subjective- at the end of the day, what works for my hands might not for yours. This build leaves about $550 CAD in the budget for a keyboard, mouse, headset, desk and chair- it's not enough for the very best of all of those, but it should make your goal attainable.

If you need more budget for the last few periphery items, you can drop down to this 1070 and open up another $250.

If your budget for the desk/chair/keyboard/mouse/headset is significantly less than $550, I would get this Core i7 7700 CPU for $400, over the i5 7500 for $260. You'll dip into your peripheral budget by about $140 but notice better editing power over the i5.

EDIT 2:

I found these for about another $600 more. It'll be tight, but I think this pretty accurately represents what one might spend on these parts.

The desk and chair, I'm not sure about, because I don't know what kind of department stores you have in your area, but I'd be surprised if you couldn't get a desk and chair for less than $280 to bring the total build into your $2700 budget.

Forgive me for the terrible formatting but I'm writing this in notes for easy copy and paste. I'm moving soon and I'm like 90% sure this will be the layout of the apartment I stay in.

I have a rough idea how I want things but I'd like some feedback and a forum to bounce ideas off. Ok so as I stated above I want it to have a SUBTLE cyberpunk feel think along the lines of:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Cyberpunk/comments/48p40k/apartment/?ref=search_posts&st=J3CV1TAX&sh=7aa1f669

Without all the clutter obviously. I want to have a simple futon where the couch is located and the tv exactly where it is in the render. to the left of the futon I want a corner desk such as:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001FB5LE8/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I3LMFRI393MQQT&colid=2Z9WWCIKD2PXQ

Also I should point out what got me interested in a sort of cyverpunkish is that I have a small purple neon sign that I acquired while I was living in Japan that I think would look pretty neat as some nighttime ambient lighting. I still don't know where I'd put it.

Ok so for the area where the bed is located (I plan on using the futon as my bed) I plan on putting my homelab server equipment. I'm a net admin by trade so it something I definitely plan to build. Anything else you guys could think of to help? Some nice dressers, nightstands, coffee tables and such that would fit the aesthetic I'm going for? Is my plan terrible and can you think of a better way to design the place? I'm not extremely anal about this whole thing I just wanna be comfy in my place especially since it'll be the first time I'm going to live alone.

I'm gonna triple mount 3 Asus VG248QE monitors (24" screen, each 22.5"wide), and I'm unsure about what mounts I should use. I was eyeing this triple monitor mount, but I don't know if it will perfectly fit my monitors or allow me to curve them inward enough. This is a big deal for me since I want to have three monitors and my tower (9" wide) on my desk (72"), and curving the outer two monitors will make everything fit with ease. That being said, I was also thinking about getting 3 of these single monitor mounts which seem to be cheaper. The only cons I can think of with this is that initial set up will be a drag and the cable management will be less appealing. I assume this method would allow for more freedom with a single monitor, so I'll be able to save more space on my desk and rotate monitors with ease. I'm sorta leaning towards the latter option, but I could really use a second opinion- Should I get the 3x mount or 3 1x mounts? Is there a recommended alternative anyone can vouch for that won't kill my wallet?

Looking to get a new desk to start my battlestation off. Tbh I am mostly a console gamer but would like to hook up my Xbox/PS4 up to a computer monitor. I am also considering getting into PC gaming once I can save up some money for it. I have two desks that I like a lot but my two concerns are having enough space for my consoles, but also having the potential for dual monitors in the future. https://www.amazon.com/Techni-Sport-Carbon-Gaming-Desk/dp/B0741GC94T/ref=asc_df_B0741GC94T/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312154169448&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15577776505349995532&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1014895&hvtargid=pla-571917762457&psc=1

If there was a desk that was almost a fusion of these two (for an affordable price) that would be perfect. I love the storage that is available for my controllers, games, and headphones and stuff as well. Thanks for the help!

u/SpockolateChips · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I bought this one on amazon about a year ago and its pretty nice. "Walker Edison Soreno 3-Piece Corner Desk, Black with Black Glass" Its obviously glass and difficult to clean, i would recommend coasters if you buy it. But the price is good and its on sale right now. https://www.amazon.com/Walker-Edison-Soreno-3-Piece-Corner/dp/B001FB5LE8/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1511995783&sr=8-4&keywords=desk

Personally if I could do it all over again I would have saved for a none L shaped regular or standing desk like Uplift. They are more durable, easier to clean, easier to move, and provides more long term space where you can actually sit at it and see everything using a keyboard without turning your chair to look at your other monitors. I have to move my chair or my neck to look at my third monitor so dont love it. But for the price I am extremely happy and will save for a really nice desk when I move into my house early next year.

u/v3ndun · 1 pointr/buildapc

thought about the butcherblock.. but stuff like that doesn't come treated. I didn't have the time/space to do all that. I wasn't confident that the ikea top was going to support my tower to well. I noticed my, then, glass desk had a tiny bow in it.. so I was eager to find a replacement.

I bought a Tribesigns desk.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XVQJSCL/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It felt silly to buy a piece of wood sturdy enough to hold a computer, cut it, stain it, wax or otherwise protect it for more than buying this desk. The frame is metal The top is covered in a vinyl but is like a sturdy hybrid/mesh concoction. The sides can scrape easily if you're not careful.

It fit perfectly into the 57"ish space I had.
----------------------
years ago, a roommate and I just installed a kitchen countertop formica.. a 18' long one. Was a little tacky, but it worked and best of all, it was cheap.

u/rcioffe · 3 pointsr/buildapc

I have the 48"x31" bekant and love it. It's a sturdy, slim, and the beveled edges don't kill your arms if you rest on it. Super easy to put together, especially considering its from Ikea.

https://imgur.com/a/uJWnK

I've since upgraded to 3x27" monitors and love the setup. I have mine a little different, with the third almost 90 degrees to my left, but that's mostly just for music/soccer in the background.

I considered making my own L desk from Ikea with linnmon table tops (woulda been like $70 or something ridiculously cheap) but after being able to see/feel the tops, I was put off. They're rather thick with sharpish edges and I didn't feel it would be nice in the long run. More like a kitchen table than a desk if anything.

I considered this guy as well: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009YPRRZ8/

I believe it's on sale in r/buildapcsales atm too.

My mom reviews electronics for a living so we end up getting tons of new devices really often and generally need to find cables to match so things are being switched out and added in all the time. To make it more convenient instead of having to go sort through a box or into a drawer and untangle cables I wanted something super easy access to so that if i needed an hdmi , bam, I had one. Same with the others.

For the controllers I used Stick-On Game Controller Hooks 2 Pack. The snes and nes usb controllers are simply hung via a tack.

I got a simple ~$10 corkboard from walmart, used a label maker for the labels and then used CraZy TACKz 36tacks to hang the cables. I wouldn't recommend them though, a standard tack works better honestly ( In theory a hook is great but they loosen and then swing around making it a pain to re-orient them when you're taking things on and off frequently.)

The headphones under the desk is The Anchor Great adhesive, super cheap and can orient it vertically or horizontally which lets you fit two pair ( in my case one for skype/discord+gaming and the other for general use since it has better quality but no mic)

For anyone else curious about the other pieces of the set up:

the desk is Series A:72inch Desk by Bush Business Furinture.

The lights are EconoLed RGB 5M 3528 LED Strip Light 300leds

Mousepad is Reflex Lab Huge Gaming Mouse Pad

and Audio-Technica ATH-A900X

Monitors are : ASUS VN279QL and Dell U3417W FR3PK

Keyboard is : Razer BlackWidow X Tournament Edition Chroma

I searched on Amazon for L Shaped Desk and found a whole bunch of options. Many under $100. I linked to one I thought was a great price.
How it works is you order the item you like and they will ship it to you and then you put it together yourself using very basic tools. Like a Phillips screw driver and sometimes a hammer.

I also went to Walmart.com and searched L shaped desk and found this one below. Walmart offers free shipping when the item is over $25 so getting from Walmart (or even target.com) will be the best option. Shipping is pretty quick in my experience. The desks I've found so far all look like they will be easy to assemble. Also, most of the results are available in multiple finishes (wood/black etc) so make sure you select the option you want.

Sorry if my links are wacky, I'm on mobile.

This desk is what I have. It's a bit of a process putting it together, but when it's done it looks super nice and is a very good size. I can easily fit my bookshelf speakers, 2 monitors, and my tower (if I wanted) on one side of the 'L'. The other side just tends to get cluttered with stacks of Magic The Gathering cards :)

I can't really help with the mattress, but i have this desk in my tiny bedroom. I use the short section for my computer, and the long section has a 32" tv on it, and all my makeup and junk on the corner section.

I put it together by myself. It came with an Allen wrench, but I used an electric screwdriver with the attachment and it made things go a lot faster. It was super easy, but the glass pieces were surprisingly heavy. It took me maybe an hour, including unpacking all the pieces.

I think they make this desk in different finishes and surfaces too if you're not keen on the glass. But it looks classy as fuck, is super sturdy, and I would highly recommend it.

EDIT: the box it came in was maybe a bit larger than a crib mattress

I managed to get about... $35 in gift cards from here, then my husband chucked in his christmas giftcard, which was $40. Then I opted for the "Damaged box" but everything is still there, no scratches instead of the pristine never been shipped sewing machine which saved me another $40. When all was said and done, springing for overnight shipping, I got my machine for roughly $224 instead of $330. She works fantastic as well :D All the accessories that came with it to be quilt specific :D

So now I'm saving for a desk for it. It's just a 50 dollar desk, but still saving for it. The TV tray that the sewing machine sits on barely contains my new machine and if I want to use the extension table I have to put it on the floor, take off the pedal and use the stop start button. Little awkward. Be a far sight better than my leg folding card table that's concave and when I sew, the machine rocks.

Also WOOT CAMERA! I may have to help you next paycheck!

That would be swell, but no generally we just take space when we can get it. We only have the helpdesk and IT offices for room.

I will say this though - Tribesigns makes some really nice and inexpensive tables that are perfect for this. $100 for a 4 foot by 2 foot table with a steel base and 2 inch thick particle board top. The L-shaped desk is a bit thinner AFAIK.

Also, this is my favorite "value" chair.

Only $200 but it's pretty darn robust not to mention comfortable.

One more note: avoid office supply stores like the plague, especially the chairs. While this seems counter-intuitive, the durability/performance of the chairs compared to price is half what you can get elsewhere, and generally everything is overpriced.

u/FlippehFishes · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Im currently using This Desk And it works fine, except for 1 issue. I can only fit 2 of my 24" monitors on it currently. I could put on a 3rd but the way the desk is built you kinda have to sit farther to the left/right of the desk depending which way you face so 1 monitor is alittle to far away for it to be a comfortable fit. I hope I explained it well haha its in a kinda of awkward position.

u/bangbangsnipesnipe · 1 pointr/buildapc

Has anyone ever had to shop for a 20" deep/wide desk? I'm trying to find one that's about 50-54" long, but it's next to impossible to find one at that length that's not 24" deep or more; I'd like to find one that's basic and black, too, which compounds the issue even further.

Something that's akin to this that wasn't 23.6" deep would hit the spot, so I'm hoping someone here might've had to buy a desk of that size, themselves, and can point me towards a good place to find them. I feel like I've spent hours upon hours over the last month trying to find something! I'd be nice if more sites had an easier way to filter results.

u/Kasimark · 2 pointsr/DesignMyRoom

Further details:

  • Budget: Ideally, $400 or less, excluding the mattress, but I can stretch up to $500 or less
  • I need a desk. I was thinking this one, but I'm open to any larger desk that fits with the theme
  • I like a sense of minimalism, but I'm open to some visually interesting components. I'm somewhat distracted, so I hope to design a room that doesn't aggravate that.
  • I currently trying to decide between a queen bed and a full bed. I'd prefer the queen, but I'm open to the full, if the queen would tamper significantly with the space. I was considering this bed, but I'm looking
  • There's a window on the left side of the main room, and it has a pretty view. It's the only window.
  • There's a large closet on the left side of the entry-way. That should be sufficient for the majority of my storage.
  • I don't need the most super ergonomic chair. Something to sit on for an hour at a time would suffice, but I'm not a gamer

Well it depends, do you just want a good starter desk or something you can use for a good length of time without feeling like you have to get another one?Personally I have a rather small desk I thought I would like but have come to realise leaves me wishing for more space for my mouse, keyboard and assorted desk decorations (a few figures mainly). An L shape desk can be great for this https://www.amazon.com/Walker-Edison-Soreno-3-Piece-Corner/dp/B001FB5LE8/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1494868308&sr=8-6&keywords=desk

There's a few more options you can find on amazon just by searching desk. I hope this was helpful.

u/tr1ppn · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Sooo many things. Power strips, extension cords, HDMI/AV cables are all "have some extra" because, well, you can never have too many, or know where you will need them.

Grill? You need a grill. End of story.

You said you were looking for an L-Shaped desk. I have this but black with clear glass. It's a bit small, but I really like it. With some mounts for screens to give more desk space (kb/mouse doesn't fit on the tray) it's nice. It cost me like $80, so it wasn't a huge deal. Good buy.

Also, ample trash cans, especially one in the bathroom with a lid for any lady friends you might have. An absolute must. Spare toothbrush isn't a bad idea either :P

u/GGATHELMIL · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

im pretty sure this is the exact same thing i bought on amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019R40ZHW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

ive had it for almost a year now. the only qualms i have with it basically issues to user error when i put it together. its a solid AF desk. and because of the way its constructed if you have to move it breaks down into 2 smaller desk by removing four bolts. so its good if you are in college and will be moving once you graduate.

The wood is really nice. im sure its MDF but its solid as fuck. no water stains and no swelling since the paint job was solid. i have a triple monitor mount on the back and have ample room for a full keyboard with wrist guard. and i decided to protect the desk and my wrist further with a XXL mouse pad. 12/10 would buy again. not sure why i would have to since its the best.

Edit: 2 things i remembered. 1 the pc carrier for on the floor is a nice touch. its a 15-20 dollar value for similar things on amazon. and the 2nd point is if you plan on storing you computer in the corner under the desk dont put that corner of the desk in the corner of room. there isnt enough room in the joint to pass some larger computer cases through it, like mine for example. otherwise everytime you need to pull out your tower you have to move the desk.

u/AWildRedditorApeared · 1 pointr/vinyl

Hi guys, hoping you could help me with a basic setup. My dad passed recently and left me about 200 vinyl records, mostly from the 70's and 80's. I'd like to listen to them, but I do not have any sort of set up.

I looked at the suggested threads / wiki, and it looks like I'll need a turntable, amp, and speakers. There's a lot more I can get, but for now I'm just happy with a barebones setup so I can listen to some old jams.

I live in USA-MI, and my budget is $200-500. A few caveats:

  • I live in an apartment complex. I do not need it to be too loud / window shaking.
  • I have limited space - tall, 3' speakers are out of the question.
  • I have this desk.
  • My goal was to put the turntable atop the desk, then find a shelf to put under it if I need an amp / other equipment / storage for records.

    Anyways, here's what I found:

  • Crossley C100A-SI, decent turntable for the price.
  • Edifier R1280T Speakers, seem small enough to politely sit on the desk.

    Questions:

  • Is this all I need? Will the speakers plug directly into the turntable? Will the turntable come with a needle?
  • How much of a difference are the ~$100 turntables vs the 200 / 300? Will I actually notice it, or is it mostly just marketing?
  • Are there better recommendations for my budget? If so, what would you recommend and why?

I got this desk last year and am currently using it:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00166HC9E/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I generally like it; it's solid, wasn't too tricky to assemble, and fits well in a corner. My only gripe is that I am not able to install a triple-monitor mount that grips the desk, but honestly that's an issue with glass-topped desks in general, not just this model. All in all, I am pretty happy with this desk.

u/lbdavid19 · 2 pointsr/pcgaming

I would reccomend an L-shaped desk. They're really great for that kind of stuff. IKEA has good desks. I have one that I bought at Office Max for about $100. I can also confidently reccomend this Walker Edison glass desk. It's good quality, and very strong. It doesn't have much storage though.

Hi All,

A while back, I posted some phone photos of my closet turned into a makeup room and it drew some attention, I've since updated with some information. I wanted to do a good update and also update with some good photos as well. I'm not trying to brag about anything, this "makeup room" is not big, didn't cost a lot of money by any means (you will see, I've listed costs), I am merely updating some information from before. Thanks!

Edit: It's more room centered/focused and not so much makeup focused I suppose, but if you have any questions, or want close up shots of anything/makeup, just let me know!

I forgot to add the desk itself. I got it off Amazon for $52.49 and if you have Prime, shipping is free.

u/kickingpplisfun · 1 pointr/WeAreTheMusicMakers

A good(but still cheap) L-shaped desk. It's not perfect, but everything's at roughly the same height(some of them have multiple levels), and you'll have plenty of desk space for monitors of both types, controllers/interfaces, and notes. You'll also want other furniture like a comfy desk chair because you'll be in your studio a lot.

I'm currently working with two thrift-store desks, but this desk is looking promising for when I get a few hundred extra dollars to buy more studio stuff(I'm kind of broke right now).

As far as electronics go, an upgrade to your (computer)keyboard and mouse is a good idea so you can make certain assign certain things in your DAW to more convenient places like a thumb button on your mouse.

u/oonooneoo · 1 pointr/minipainting

I use a small flat-pack desk. It's not great but does the job and doesn't take up too much of my one-bedroom apartment. I've also used a drafting table in the past. They're nice because you can usually adjust the height and they've got a lot of surface area. Quality ones are quite expensive though and the surface area actually tends to be larger than you can use ergonomically. You'll end up not able to reach the opposite edge comfortably because they're designed to be used in a vertical or slanted orientation, which you really can't do while working on figures.

If I had space for it, I'd probably invest in an L-shaped computer workstation and adjust the height by adding furniture risers. They're inexpensive and offer plenty of workspace. Spend more on the chair. A quality chair is really valuable if you're going to spend hours sitting.

Some other decent ideas were people using solid flat sided doors as a desk top and make a frame out of 2x4s or filing cabinets and just set it on top. The doorknob hole is perfect for running wires.

I like my Corsair mouse quite a bit, though it's just a wee bit over the $50 parameter at $59.

Hi thank you! The desk is from amazon ! :) - sorry I forgot to answer your other question! I don’t have any experience with previous PC keyboards, but I know for sure they are quieter than blue switches. They’re not exactly subtle when it comes to clicking sounds, but it does give a satisfying “clack,” even though it’s not an actual mechanic keyboard! I will say though that the spacebar, backspace, and “0” keys sound different and are more springy than the other keys

I bought me a new desk on Amazon since my old desk was starting to age a bit, and I decided to go big. I don't have a lot of space to work with in my small room so I couldn't get whatever desk I want (although that would be cool). Overall, I think it turned out pretty well and I'm happy with it.

I also got me some cable management gear such as a cable raceway, some cable hooks, and some doubled sided tape for the single power brick I have. I feel like the cable management isn't as good as it can be, but oh well. It's a lot better than before, and it's so much better than not having a cable raceway.

The shelf is actually part of the desk, which is a Bestar Corner Workstation (https://www.amazon.com/Bestar-Hampton-workstation-Granite-Charcoal/dp/B001UHTYZ4). It's pretty fantastic, but it is HUGE. I had to bore some holes in the back of the shelf for some cabling routing, otherwise this wouldn't look anywhere near as neat.

I recently bought this desk for my wife off of amazon. Very happy with it. Nice metal frame and it is definitely a looker with a tempered glass case sitting on it.

It's [this desk.] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009YPRRZ8/ref=oh_details_o02_s02_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) As for the desk itself, it looks pretty good but the build quality leaves something to be desired. Pretty flimsy but probably what you would expect out of a desk in the subpar $100ish range.

I'm not as tall (a little under 6'1) but should give you an ok idea. It does have a little basket kinda deal for stuff if you wanna put it there but everything can be removed and modified to suit what you need

What's the rough size you are looking for? Anyway, given your criteria these are probably the choices I would go with. They should all have free shipping.

55" x 55" x 24" L-Shape - $143.99

55" x 23.6" Desk, looks a little higher quality - $139.99

33 7/8 " x 19.5" x 23 5/8" - L-Shape, Keyboard Drawer, little shelf - $109.00

'47-71" x 35.5" x 29.5" - Office Style Desk - $188.05

71.5" x 23.25" - Table top - NO legs - $35.00

28" hairpin table legs - 4 pack - $59.99

Also check out Home Depot or a hardware store/lumber yard maybe. They often sell table tops and counter tops, all you would need is legs.

u/Dizman7 · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Yeah, I'd only be getting a height adjustable one because I can't find anything else in that simple shape. I guess have found a very small handful, but they are usually in a very brown wood color, which wouldn't go with my home office at all or just too small. This one would be perfect if it just had an option for a black or grey top to it.

I've had this for around 3 years, nice sturdy glass, very good looking. It has enough space for my lg34um95 and a 24" monitor with thick bezels while still having the side free to do whatever over there.

--------------------

Pros

  • sturdy

  • L-shaped

  • cheap

    -------------------------------

    Cons

  • a little on the low side for a tall person

  • not much space in the keyboard drawer for your hands

u/1MillionMonkeys · 1 pointr/WeAreTheMusicMakers

I have this desk which I find to be acceptable. It's large enough to fit my Maschine Studio + Sub 37 on the desktop and keep a mouse/keyboard on the tray below. The elevated shelf is great for a large computer screen and wide enough to fit rack units on either side of the monitor. I used to have my monitors on the shelf but upgraded to larger monitors that I ended up putting on stands.

As I said, the desk is acceptable. The glass top is a pain to clean and there have been times where the metal parts vibrated due to my music (this may have only been when the monitors were on the shelf, I can't remember the last time it happened). It's also on wheels which isn't that much of a problem but it does jiggle a little from time to time. I'm looking forward to getting a new wood desk someday, maybe a Zaor but for now this desk is acceptable enough that I would rather buy more gear.

u/grimoiregirl · 2 pointsr/Cyberpunk

I know a guy who can get me a discount on a lot of electronics, I call him first, get hooked up with two smart bulbs $85, a projector $92, and speakers $140. I'm figuring also $50 for cables.

Other than the wall the projector is going to be on, which I'm leaving white, paint all the other walls with black chalkboard paint. I'm gonna figure this at about $40, 1 can of paint that covers 110 square feet is $10 on Walmart.com. Black walls is pretty retro futuristic dystopia, and now we can draw or write on them, which is good for making things. I'll also be on the lookout for a large flat piece of scrap metal to mount on the wall for magnetic haikus and "filing" printouts. Take apart old hard drives for free magnets.

I'm gonna grab this desk,
https://www.amazon.com/Z-Line-Belaire-Glass-L-Shaped-Computer/dp/B0019MAUTE/ and a cheap chinese $15 strip light kit on Amazon, and underlight the desk.

I'm going to use scrounged furniture for any other furniture in the room. I'll probably start applying the leftover blackboard paint to it, to give it all a uniform appearance, and run out halfway through, and then spend $10-$25 on another can or two of paint and some sandpaper.

I'll spend $90 on 3 smart plugs, then purchase a $20 electric kettle, a $30 electric rice cooker. Now I have the ability to not stop working to make instant noodles.

I'm also going to pick up $30 worth of 3M mounting tape, [this $243 couch off of Amazon](
https://www.amazon.com/Target-Marketing-Systems-66318BLK-Storage/dp/B000WZ9ZVS/) because I always wanted a fainting couch and a random incongruous piece of furniture seems very "low life" to me, and a $30 shower curtain with some weird print to cover any windows- this one I picked because it has kind of a vaporwave aesthetic, but I can confirm that it works because I have one with a trees in the forest print covering the sliding glass door in my bedroom. If this is a bedroom, substitute the fainting couch for a cheap memory foam mattress and some printed sheets that I'll probably buy at Target with cartoon characters on them.

Feel free to bug. It's tough finding arms that can reach over other monitors. The three middle ones are held up with single monitor mounts. I'm able to get them over the bottom monitors because I have a desk with a second level that they are connected to similar to this.
The TV on top is on a vertical mount which is sitting on a box and held down with weights. Kind of ghetto but I never look behind there anyway.

Since they're so low to the ground and you need more horizontal space to cross your legs, tons of drawers may not be generally practical. I've found tons of pictures from asian sites, like you, but yes, they're hard to find with shelves, it seems.

Have you considered a wall-mounted desk? You could mount it at an appropriate height for you. E.g.: The Prepac Floating Desk with Storage - white (also available in black or espresso).

Desk depth is 24 inches, 4 inches deeper than the Walker Edison desk. The keyboard tray is much wider, easily capable of acommodating a mouse and keyboard. The desk itself is also 10 inches longer and wider.

Also consider this desk from office depot. The keyboard tray is about 4 inches shorter than the zline desk so no mouse and keyboard unless you get a compact keyboard. Otherwise, this desk has the same dimensions as the z line. It goes on sale frequently for $170, which you can bring down further with coupons. I got mine $135 just last week. Haven't set it up yet though.

Third option is to hit Craigslist. Search for ikea galant. You'll get plenty of hits.

[Here is the desk] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001FB5LE8/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) as far as 3 27 i'm not too sure if it would be wise to have that much weight on the glass like that, and they would just be overwhelmingly large in comparison to the desk.

I don't know about gaming desks but I found decent L shaped desks like this and this for less than $130.

Walker Edison 3 Piece - Multi-color (The cheapest)

Pretty sturdy and spacious for the price.

Office Star Prado L-Shape Workstation Desk in Black

Used to own this desk a few months ago before I moved. Admittedly this one is a lot heavier than the old one, so, it's not going anywhere. That being said, I do enjoy the extra desk space it provides over the previous one.

I like the concept, but for roughly the same price, you can get something like this (albeit on sale).

I got this desk for around $150 and, though not a real music production desk, it works for my home situation.

Your idea is very cool, but I'm not sure it's price-competitive.

If you want a pretty cheap (price only, quality is fab) desk version I’ve had this one for years and loooove it. Thing is beast. Not real wood though. But hey, cheap.

Looks like this but a different color.

I may pick one up as well, my Ikea one is getting too small.

I was thinking the same thing. I have this desk and it's cheap, sturdy, and aesthetically pleasing. It's harder to pick a chair without sitting on it.

Desk cheapo and there's no way to move it once assembled. pretty solid and doesn't look bad from 10ft.

Looks like the Cyrus Workstation with out the monitor stand up top. This

I've been looking around for battle station ideas too and I have 3 vanity sets saved in my cart on Amazon that I'm interested in but for some reason just not ready to commit yet. This one is a desk but I feel like it has potential, this one is the cheapest but also the smallest, and this one is the most functional but also the most expensive :-/ So my search is still ongoing, let us know what you end up deciding on & post pics! :-)

I got it on Amazon. It's the Atlantic Gaming Desk Pro. Very reasonable price but study and well built!
