Get one of these! (I can't say for sure whether or not this is a legit brand/model to go for since I'm not from the US, but something similar). I have a very similar hair type to yours, and this gives me what I like to think of as a look similar to Kate Middleton ;) Plus I'm not very coordinated, and can't get to grips with the brush and blowdryer technique!
I let my hair air dry for a bit (which takes significantly less time since getting layers, so maybe look into that) or just go over it with a regular hairdryer until a lot of the excess water is gone. Then I section in into 2-3 inch chunks from the bottom layers upwards, and just go at it. Once you get in some practice you'll be able to do your whole head in about 15 minutes.
If in doubt, look up tutorials on Youtube. Also, look for a model that has a high temperature and/or wattage, or that specifically states it is for drying the hair - some are just for adding volume once your hair has already been styled, so don't need to be as hot/powerful.

Dude, I so feel ya. My hair was a rats nest so I got it straightened overseas. For quicker hair drying, try a wet/brush dryer. So much easier than a hair dryer. I use Infiniti by conair wet/dry hair dryer on myself and daughter and it really cuts down on frizziness. For french braiding, you can try this.
My husband and I both have long hair(mine is about to my mid back, his is usually layered to his chin. We have a toddler and both work, and work out in the morning before work, so we need a very quick way to style our hair. I have never been able to style my hair. Thank god I don't have any girls or they would be a rats nest of horrible hair on their heads.
I make it nice by simplicity. I have wavy/not curly in a bad way hair texture. It got even worse after I had kids. I refuse to have my hair cut in any way except long layers. I blow dry the crap out of it and then use a blow dry curling thing like this(I have literally had this thing since I was in high school..I am 36) to curl it under and make it all stylish and whatever.
If I dont have time or patience for that I put it up in a clip wet or a ponytail and hope for the best.
Don't even get me started on make up... my mom is probably internally ashamed of me because she is and always was the type to spend an hour and a half styling her hair and putting on makeup in the morning.
There are all types of girls, I could never put my hair up any way that is pretty, and I wear barely any makeup at all, but I consider myself girly.
