This is super cool! I don't sleep, so this will keep me entertained for a bit!

1.) Something that is grey.

Well, it's more silver-ish, but it'll do! (WL)

2.) Something reminiscent of rain.

Because the sound of the rain is so peaceful :)

3.) Something food related that is unusual.

I know, it is unusual! We will be using it for liquid sugar that we make, to make our homemade Starbucks green tea :) (WL)

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!)

It's for my boyfriend, and for the aforementioned green teas we make :) I have one, and he's pretty jealous of it. Not to mention he spills so! (WL)

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!

It's called Jesus' Son. It is really...interesting to say the least, and I can guarantee not at all what you'd expect! (Unless you're expecting drugs, and the main character to be called Fuckhead!)

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related!

Clever? Or wrong. Lol.

7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...)

Because who doesn't miss these guys?

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it.

I mean...he's beautiful, so.... <3

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?

My username is a big hint to what this movie is! It's just so happy, and makes me laugh every time I watch it (and I've been watching it multiple times every year since it came out, and I was only 5!). It's just a genuinely happy, feel-good movie, with great music :)

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.

You know, for heat/fire when there's no electricity! (WL)

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals.

It might not be the norm, but it's a gift card. Reason being instead of something specific, is with a gift card I can buy food through Amazon. Times have been a little tough around here, and we barely make it through the month money, and food wise. To know I had a little money to spend on groceries somewhere would be a major relief, and put both my boyfriend and I out of stress. I know it's not a "goal goal", but our happiness is a goal of mine, and it's been a little shakey as of late :/(WL)

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items.

Because ours is torn, oops! (WL)

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why?

A nice, damn vacuum. Our current one sucks (bad pun), and I am really picky about a clean carpet. It would just be really nice to have a nice one, and that'll last instead of having to buy a new one every so often. (WL)

14.) Something bigger than a bread box. EDIT A bread box is typically similar in size to a microwave.

Because it never occurred to me you could buy this on Amazon!

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball.

Individually, smaller than a golfball!

16.) Something that smells wonderful.

I love, love, loooooove this perfume. I've had samples, but never the whole bottle! (WL)

17.) A (SFW) toy.

Not a toy per say, but it's definitely fun, and entertaining for hours! (WL)

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school.

Pens! Believe it or not, these have always been my favorite, and despite the fact there's a bunch in a box, I always ended up with none! That's why people should have their own!

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be.

Because I...I'm...I'm a woman possessed. Normally I'm obsessed with Sherlock but since it's not out yet, I'm catching up on Doctor Who, and I can't. Just can't stop. Been talking in a British accent on accident for days! I also freaking love hoodies so it's the best of both worlds. (WL)

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand.

BECAUSE LOOK AT IT! Making tasty foods on it for the belly! (WL)

Hey, this was a lot of fun! Regardless of the outcome, thank you. Thoroughly enjoyed myself :)

EDIT: BONUS: Anything made in Oregon.

It's a whole gift set! It's like it knew! I actually added it to my WL. My favorite jam was taken off the shelves, so I'm always up for trying new ones :)

Yes, you need to take your son to an allergist, have them test for the dog allergy first and then if he still has it do a 6 month round of immunotherapy to get the allergy to essentially go away before doing this. I still have them to a mild extent but the amount mine has lessened is like night and day.

Allergies are weird, if it's a mild allergy then he may just adjust to the dog after a few weeks (I did with mine though I am still mildly allergic) but if the allergy is severe it can actually get much much worse with repeated exposure (like for instance my cat allergy eventually winding up with me turning into a full body hive due to just being on a floor in a house with a cat where the cat wasn't even allowed but this took 3-4 months of repeated low level exposure)

If you are intent on bringing a dog home there are quite a few things you can do to help

  • Commit to grooming the dog every single day. This makes it so the dander comes out on the brush not on your furniture and such.

  • Bathe every 2 weeks. This also significantly helps cut down on dander. You can also use a product like Allerpet or these little baby wipe things they make for dogs between baths that helps cut down on the dander as well. Ours gets a daily wipedown and it seems to help a lot.

  • Short haired vs long hair is a bit of an issue and it tends to be dog specific. Our dog is short haired but it's really hair (vs fur) and it's a single coat so she doesn't shed at all (or it's all coming out on the brush every day). My parents dog however it long hair which people say should be less allergenic but I am incredibly allergic to that furball. It's going to be dog specific, look for poodle type or wire haired and you will probably do better but it all does depend. A short haired, single coat dog that doesn't seem to be shedding when you get it may be your best bet as it makes for minimal yet effective groom (i.e. quick brush down with a soft brush every day) Look for hair that's more like 1/2 an inch vs something really short like a pit-mix or bulldog.

  • Don't let the dog into bedrooms, ideally don't even let them upstairs (getting a baby gate with a door in it, makes this process so much easier). Bedrooms need to be allergy free as it's essentially 8 hours a night of getting to "escape" the allergens.

  • On that note make sure your son showers before going to bed, this does more to help me then anything else since it gets the bedroom really dander free. I don't even leave my dander covered clothes in the bedroom, they sit outside in the hall. Also vaccum the bedroom once a week to remove any dander that has snuck in as well as changing the sheets every week. Getting a sealed mattress pad will help too.

  • Limit which pieces of furniture the dog can get on. Ours is only permitted on one couch and the couch is covered in a blanket that gets washed every 2-3 days to remove the dander.

  • Get a very good vaccum with a hepa filter on it. I have this one and it's excellent. Takes the pet hair right off the couch and is so powerful it will try and lift up area rugs, and the hardwood floor attachment is great for getting pet hair. Commit to vaccuming at least twice a week.

  • Try a few different allergy meds and talk to your doctor about which ones can be taken together safely. I take Allegra in the morning and Nasacort at night and between the two of them it works really well. I'd start on the Nasacort as soon as you can as it takes about 2 weeks to build up in your system and be effective but it's one of the better meds out there. Have your son try Zyrtec, it's the best one off prescription at the moment but unfortunately gives me dry mouth as a side effect. If your son doesn't have that side effect it's the best one out there. After that in order of effectiveness is allergra and then claratin. Talk to your doctor as your son may be able to take claratin and allergra simultaneously (one in the morning and one at night) which works better as it keeps him covered the whole day.

  • Wash the dogs bed frequently (ours gets washed every time the dog gets bathed) so that the dog doesn't re-get the dander on them when they lie down.

Also just saw you are currently having a lab/collie mix at home. You may luck out with this as collies seem to have hair that doesn't trigger allergies (at least in me)

Things that pop into my head as, "obvious," (that isn't a stab! My obvious isn't your obvious, after all) if I were in your situation:

  • Plates, bowls, and serveware (like serving platters, etc)

  • Flatware (forks, knives, etc). Register for at least service for eight, even if you don't need it. Sometimes they can go missing or get damaged; it's good to have backups.

  • Good knives.

  • Pots and pans. Cast Iron will last forever when cared for properly, but sometimes the, "cared for properly," part isn't for everyone. I have a stainless set that is sturdy and awesome with a couple separate nonstick pieces. Get a multi-pot too.

  • Drinkware - basic tumblers/glasses for everyday use, mugs, plus any specialty stuff you desire such as wine glasses, champagne flutes, etc.

  • Bakeware: Cookie sheets (are not just for cookies!), a small and medium casserole dish, maybe some Pyrex. You have to check this stuff out to get a feel for what you'd like, but you'll definitely want something. Maybe cake and cupcake/muffin pans if you're into that.

  • Tools such as spatulas, measuring cups and spoons, whisks, tongs, rolling pin, ice cream or cookie scoop, can opener etc.

  • Other items kitchen items like mixing bowls, cutting boards, strainer/sieve, ice trays, lidded (think tupperware or rubbermaid or whatever) containers. If you like salads a lot, consider a salad spinner.

  • Kitchen appliances - a KitchenAid if you like to bake. A hand mixer for smaller jobs. A blender. A microwave.

  • Coffee maker of choice if you drink coffee - anything from french presses to fancy stuff is fair game. Add a coffee grinder if you get a french press. If you don't drink coffee, perhaps a nice kettle, electric kettle, or water cooler that also heats.

  • Dish towels.

  • A vacuum - I have this one from Shark and it is fantastic. Dysons are good, and Roombas are nifty, but I might hold off on that since you need so much other stuff for your house.

  • Depending on where you're registering, consider other cleaning supplies - a bucket, a broom and mop (or a Swiffer) and related supplies.

  • Towels (at least four), hand towels, washcloths.

  • Bed linens - sheets, for the love of god sheets. Jersey ones are glorious. Blankets. A comforter or duvet and duvet cover. Pillows.

Not so obvious to me, but still needed:

  • A set of tools - doesn't have to be complex. You can pick a pre-assembled set or put a la carte pieces. If you do individual pieces, consider adding (at minimum): varying sizes of phillips and flat-head screwdrivers, various screws (just get a multipack), hammer, nails, level, measuring tape, tool box, box cutter, wrenches - honestly, I'm an airhead with this stuff. Not to fulfill stereotypes but I seriously would need to double-check with my husband to make a more-complete list because I'm drawing a blank. But it's a start.

  • Shower curtain/liner if you didn't register for a fancy ensemble.

  • Perhaps an over-the-toilet etagere (those shelf things).

  • A good, sturdy flashlight. Bonus points if it is rechargeable AND can take an external battery.

  • Candles - not necessarily ones that smell pretty, but ones you can use reliably during power outages.

  • A fire extinguisher. Make sure you get it checked periodically so you know you can still rely on it.

  • Hangers. Macy's sells my favorite but I think they're on Amazon too.

  • A grill, if you're into that.

  • Lawn and other outdoor tools - a lawnmower, rake, shovel, snow shovel.

  • Door mat for inside and outside.

  • A vase, if you think you might ever have flowers in the house. And just because you don't often have flowers doesn't mean you shouldn't get one. Unexpected flowers are awesome, not having a home for them sucks.

  • Board games - either for yourselves or to entertain company.

  • An iron and ironing board OR a steamer if you're like me and hate ironing.

  • Laundry hampers and mesh laundry bags.

  • Trash cans - kitchen, miscellaneous household, and outdoor. Recycling, too, if you plan to do recycling.

I'll add more if I think of them!

  1. I have a pizza cutter similar to [this one] (https://smile.amazon.com/Pizza-Cutter-Stainless-Integrated-Mozzbi/dp/B01DLHGXA4/ref=sr_1_6?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1496203463&sr=1-6&keywords=pizza+cutter) but the exact brand isn't on here because I bought it from a different site. It is by and far the best I've ever used. I went through quite a few trying to find one that cuts well :)

  2. I keep [this] (https://smile.amazon.com/Kershaw-1660-Onion-Folding-SpeedSafe/dp/B0009VC9Y0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496203582&sr=8-1&keywords=kershaw+onion+leek) with me at all times. It was a gift from a friend many moons ago. We were all amazed that he had bought it on amazon.com because back then we thought amazon only sold books :D

  3. My favorite mobile app is [Pokemon Go!] (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo&hl=en)

  4. [This] (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00BJQPX8S/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=IA15C3NOZJXFA&colid=2Z0D7A1SRJBDE) "welcome" mat is amazing.

  5. [This] (http://www.valuecityfurniture.com/product/item/accents/furniture/tv-stands-and-media-centers/grenoble-media-credenza-teal/1639347?utm_medium=cpc&gclid=CjwKEAjwsLTJBRCvibaW9bGLtUESJAC4wKw1q_R1JBCXLoWCo0obyzyn2NledF37RbGhZ7qI0Y-BUxoCMMTw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds) is my favorite piece of furniture. I bought it on super duper black friday clearance and I just love it. It's distressed and holds a lot of crap inside of it. It helps give the appearance of adulthood!

  6. I have a much cheaper version of [this] (https://smile.amazon.com/Eye-Vac-EVPRO-Professional-Touchless-Stationary/dp/B0011G20QY/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1496203991&sr=1-1&keywords=electric+dustpan) (also an off brand not bought on amazon) and it's really awesome. It has a setting that senses when you sweep stuff to it and just sucks it up. My room mate is "floored" by it and loves it almost as much as I do!

shrdbrd you lazy bum, heres some cool stuff.

I roast with a heat gun in a breadmaker. The breadmaker just stirs the beans while all the heat comes from the heat gun. It is very fun. Clean up kinda sucks, but that's life.

I'd say 5/10 of my roasts are amazing. Better than buying from local professional roasters. I recently got a delicious malted chocolate taste from a Burundi. Seriously yummy. I've gotten blueberry and raspberry from Ethiopians. Sweet and delicious coffee.

4/10 are decent. I'm drinking one right as I type, an Ethiopian, that is... interesting... it has a lime flavor. It's definitely dialed in, not sour or bitter. Not particularly sweet. It's good, but not great. It's about as interesting as what I could buy from a local roaster... a little less interesting/delicious though.

1/10 are disasters. Over or under-done, "off-flavored," just something went completely wrong. Sometimes they're still salvagable... I have a VERY dark-roasted bean that I put a couple in as a blend with other Central/South American non-fruity coffees for dessert drinks. I will probably just cold brew it in a couple weeks. Brewed on its own it is just way too dark for me. It's probably a French roast. I've also roasted one so lightly that it turned pale and never really cracked. Tasted like lipton tea. Had to just toss it.

Overall, I highly recommend heat gun method if you're into the idea at all. It's surprisingly easy and fun once you have your set-up.

PS- you need to make sure you have a cooling solution too. I use a datavac that I already had (https://www.amazon.com/Metro-Vacuum-ED500P-500-Watt-Electric/dp/B001U899HQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1522274084&sr=8-2&keywords=datavac&dpID=418XjHwHhgL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch)

And I just put the beans in a colander, put a plate on top, and blow the heat off them.

Good luck!

Is this the one you use?. I was slightly skeptical of the not so expensive price tag but it's been amazing - super strong suction, picks up everything with one pass, really easy to clean, easy to change attachments, pretty adjustable... Even though I have a husky/GSD mix (Read: I live in fur), I only vacuum once a week or so since I'm not so much of a clean freak and just wait until the color of the carpet changes, so I can't speak for how it would hold up if you're a vacuum every day kinda person, lol.

u/[deleted] · 9 pointsr/AskMen

It's really easy to keep your place clean if you clean 20-30mins a day. Keep a list of tasks to do every day for a month and stick to it.

http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/how-to-clean-your-house-in-20-minutes-a-day-for-30-days-131142

The above link is amazing. I follow it and am able to clean my whole place easily. Deep cleaning is easy for me as I follow a schedule.

Finally, buy a good vacuum. My condo has only tile/vinyl/hardwood floors.

Thanks to /u/touchmyfuckingcoffee, I bought a Eureka Mighty Mite. The vacuum is amazing. I'm able to vacuum my whole condo properly in 20 mins now.

Buy a good steam mop. The Shark Steam Mop is a good model. You can get them for ~ $50. I steam my tile/hardwood surfaces once a week and steam my walls once every few months.

If you have pets, comb them every day with a steel comb. I have a Furminator. This cuts down shedding everywhere to nothing.

Finally, buy a good HEPA airfilter. The Honeywell 50250 is a good model. My condo gets dusty easily, and then I have to dust everywhere. It sucks. The airfilter gets rid of this for me.

Oh, and buy a slowcooker and prepare frozen meals (breakfast burritos, etc). You will save a lot of money.

u/andgiveayeLL · 2 pointsr/dogs

I'm allergic to both dogs and cats and I have both. This list is more of the "nuclear options" just because of how severe my pet and dust allergies are, but even doing these things on a less extreme scale would probably help:

  1. HEPA filters for the air vents. Change them once per month

  2. I take Zyrtec daily (Costco has by far the best deal. You can buy it with a 5% upcharge if you aren't a member)

  3. In the spring when plants get added to the mix, I add another antihistamine (take Zyrtec in the morning and the second one at night). Usually it's allegra or claritin

  4. Brushing. Happens as near to daily as I can manage on my schedule

  5. Vacuuming. We have a Neato bot vac that runs daily, and we have the dyson pet hair (I actually don't love the Dyson. I think it's poorly built. If money were no object, I'd buy a Miele. If you have a rich family member, I'd throw a Miele on your registry and never look back).

  6. An air purifier. We use this in our bedroom because it's quiet and effective

  7. Bed linens and blankets get washed as often as possible (once a week minimum) because the cats share our bed and our dog loves the blanket I use on the couch. Pillowcases get changed every other night because my asshole cat thinks that is the best place to sleep

  8. If it's that bad, consider allergy shots. They are a huge PITA because of how often you have to go into the doctor to do them, but they work for some people

  9. Exposure/time will actually make a difference in the long run. My pet allergies were at their absolute worst when I was in college and didn't live with a pet. When I would come home and see my mom's cats, it was truly miserable. Now that I've got animals in my own home, it's better than it could be

  10. If you have your own home or are looking for one, hard surface floors are your best friend (wood, tile, concrete, etc). Carpet is awful for holding onto pet dander and hair. We don't own our own place yet, but when we do, the first change I'm making is getting rid of any carpet.

Edit to add: On the topic of vacuuming, I'm getting this for Christmas and I'm hopeful that it will make vacuuming her spot on the couch easier than hauling the full sized vacuum up there
u/FrankensteinVi · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Hi there!!!

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AZBIZTW/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491520417&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=pet+vacuum&dpPl=1&dpID=312SEZ%2BYUaL&ref=plSrch

To be honest, my wife and I have been contemplating if we should get this one, because one of our friends has this and she showed us a demonstration. The main difference for me is that the suction strength is greater and the brush design accommodates animal hair. Though most vacuums accommodate all types of hair anyway. Basically my wife and I were impressed. We've agreed that if our current vacuum "expires" we'd get this one. I can vouch for our friend who showed us since she has 2 cats, and boy do they shed A LOT. Hope my recommendation helps! There are other pet vacuums out there that might perform better and the such, but I've observed them to be a bit on the pricier side.

Something fun that I could recommend you to put on your list, would have to be a 15$ dymo label manager :D cause who doesn't want their things organized?! XD if that's doesn't suit your fancy then get the films by studio ghibli :) they're just lovely.

/u/Aerys1 you've been a dirty bird as you need to be punished looool

Ironically the chore I hate the most is vacuuming :/ so noisy and it consumes a lot of electricity 😂😂 but it has to be done lol

u/barbaq24 · 3 pointsr/VacuumCleaners

I purchased the 'pivot' black and decker off amazon about a year ago. It's good for cleaning the car, crumbs, quick pick ups. The battery lasts about 15 mins of straight use, but I only ever drain the battery when cleaning the car. I really like mine as a supplement to the big vacuum. It's designed well, the battery works, and it is a great tool for around the house. Also, cleaning the filter is easy, you just take it apart, wash it, and let it dry.

The one you have a link to is pretty much the same thing so I'm sure it's just as good, maybe slightly less effective if it doesn't have the brush attachment.

I've registered for the Dyson vacuum for this very reason. My parents own it and have 5 long haired cats and hardwood floors, and it has done wonders on hardwood and their furniture. I have friends with cats/dogs who have carpet and also swear by the investment.

The dyson vacuum will take care of all your needs and has so many attachments that do incredibly well. The one I've registered for is so much cheaper on Amazon as well (but it is still spendier than most vacuums): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HNUFRQC?ref_=hit_wr_dt_vr_md_pt

For my upholstry (for now since our current vacuum isn't good) I actually bought this little vacuum and it does incredibly well for both my shiba and kai on both my leather and upholstered couches: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EYFQ28?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00

Bathing your shiba during shedding season will help with loosening the hairs and make grooming easier.

I also suggest the following brushes that have done wonders for my dogs and have helped keep our apartment clean during shedding seasons.

Kong Zoom Groom - great for top coat shedding predominantly, but does get undercoat as well, just not as well.

Furminantor - Great to get rid of undercoat or loosening it up. Some people say it damages the top coat, I personally have never noticed, but don't overuse it because I do think it can cause balding, but overbrushing in general can cause balding.

Double teeth Undercoat Rake: MASTER at pulling out undercoat without any damage to top coat.

Deshedding tool: This is also a magical tool to getting rid of the undercoat. I sometimes think it works the best of all the mentioned ones for undercoat at least for Kiba, Taro's fur seems to respond better to the furminantor, while Kiba doesn't release as much from that.

Robot Vacuums. They're life changing. The cheap-ish $150-$200 models don't even perform significantly worse.

I recently bought this one, and while It's got some issues that prevent it from being a 5-star gadget, it's still pretty great. It fits under my couch and usually finds its way home, but it seems to be in a deep sleep when it's scheduled to start cleaning, so I have to trigger it manually. Most robovac reviews focus on the strength of any given vacuum, which is a factor, but less so than for an upright or canister because it runs every day. I think you can probably shop around and find a better deal on it if you order from China.

I'm still running a couple of Neato XV-21s as well, and really like it, powerful suction, a backlit screen and better scheduling than the one above. Neato robotics has excellent customer support, too. They replaced a battery on a refurbished, just-out-of-warranty XV-21 at no cost to me.

A few caveats: neither type handles rug fringe well, and corners stay dirty where neither robot can reach, and floor edges stay dirty with the XV-21, but that should be fixed in newer, more expensive models with rotary side brushes. They both tend to wind long hair around the beater brush and need to be manually cleaned. Still, they pay for themselves in man-hours saved from floor cleaning.

tl;dr: I'm apparently a robot vacuum enthusiast. Who knew?

u/m4gpi · 1 pointr/housekeeping

I have two cats and all hard flooring, on a single level. I bought a “cheap” robot vacuum and it has changed my life. It is a Ecovacs Deebot N79S; at the time it cost 300$ full price but I got it on sale for 150$ (during US Black Friday). It is designed for hard floors, a small place (my apartment is maybe 700sqft) and to deal with pet hair. It has a small hepa filter.

There are many similar models now of varying price ranges, that are designed for low floors and to deal with pet hair. I have to clear the floors before running it (pick up toys, small area rugs, etc.) and empty the capture bin after each use, but it’s amazing. Honestly it does a better job than I would with a push vacuum, because it gets under the bed and into small corners where the dust bunnies are. It has a few different modes, and can be run from a smart phone over wifi, but I haven’t really bothered with that. The best thing is I can start it up, and leave the house. I run mine 1-2 times a week.

If you want a standard vacuum, it’s important that it has a hepa filter to capture pet dander.

Also, as you’ve noticed sweeping is almost pointless - a Swiffer dry cloth mop is much better at actually clearing the pet hair from floors. You can make your own cloth mops, and they work pretty well if you are opposed to the disposable mops.

Here's a list I had written up for another user with similar parameters.

Bagged=Better.

A BIFL vacuum under $200 really can't be considered BIFL, but I think these are some good options (For primarily carpets, all hard floors would be a completely different list.)

I would always recommend buying from a brick and mortar store if possible. Not only do they typically provide better service/support than big box stores and internet retailers, they are essential your warranty center and I think if your paying for warranty you should make sure you have a place to have it taken care of. There are other brands that are not mention here that are available (Cirrus,Evolution, etc.) but I would recommend most the machines below over these companies.

Carpet Pro/Fuller Brush - I have these with commercial accounts that have used them for 9+ years. (To give you an idea the vacuum industry considers 1 year commercial use = 5 years residential use.) With this formula these machines have 45+ years of use on them. *Now these machines are well cared for and maintained which is only going to prolong the life compared to folks that do nothing to maintain their machines.

Hoover - Is not the same company they were 20+ years ago. They are owned by a bigger company who also owns, Dirt Devil, Royal, and Oreck. I think these are the two machines they make that are worth a darn.

[Hoover Tempo - IMHO the best machine Hoover makes these days] (http://www.amazon.com/Hoover-WidePath-Bagged-Upright-U5140900/dp/B0009ONZ8G/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1444932726&sr=1-1&keywords=Hoover+tempo)

There are going to be a lot of recommendations from people to hire exterminators, but I would recommend getting the equipment and doing it yourself.

One of the issues is that most exterminators come around once a month, but the life cycle of most roaches is half that, so even if you catch one wave of them, the eggs they are carrying are unaffected and will hatch, grow up, and reproduce within a couple of weeks.

There are basically three things you need to get:

Get some Fipronil Gel: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004GESOI6 Super cheap online, and 10 times more powerful than what you can get at the local store. This is what the pros use. Put this in places like under cabinets in the kitchen, near water sources, etc. Roaches like to rest in warm places. Anyplace in the apartment that is warm is a likely base for the roaches. This might be lighting fixtures, around the hot water pipes. Worst of all they might be inside your electronics such as your television or computers. They also like tight spaces, spaces they can just barely get into. Loose papers, inside the spines of hardcover books, the spaces between a shelf and the wall, places like that. Look for the roach shit, that's always a sure way to recognize where they have been hanging out.

The Fipronil on it's own is a cheap solution, but it's not the best. To really go to war you have to invest in a good sprayer: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009KM25W You can go for a cheaper one, but I would suggest it's worth the investment. If you solve the problem in the long run, you can easily resell it and recoup most of the cost, though I recommend holding on to it. Remember to let the pressure out when you are done with it, you don't want to ruin the rubber seals on it.

Fill it with Acephate Insecticide: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005662Z6A and spray down the apartment twice a month.

I would also recommend a powerful plugin handheld vacuum such as this: https://www.amazon.com/Eureka-EasyClean-Lightweight-Handheld-71B/dp/B0006HUYGM/ It's powerful enough that it eviscerates the roaches as they get sucked up. A battery operated vacuum is weak enough that they don't die and they just crawl back out.

Lastly, you have to develop the discipline to starve them. They wouldn't be growing in number if they didn't have something to eat. You have to clean *every day*. Everytime you use a dish, immediately wash it after you are done with it. Open up a can of spaghettios? Wash the can out before you throw it away. Only have one trash can in the apartment and put Fipronil in it and keep an eye on it. Don't wait for the bag to be full before you empty it out. Don't leave loose papers around, throw away junk mail immediately. Got a leaky faucet? Get it fixed. Turn off your electronics and unplug them if you aren't using them. Don't leave lights on longer than you need to.

This is *your* war, you have to win it on your own. If you wait around for the apartment manager, or an exterminator to win it for you, you'll be waiting a long time. Why pay someone else to do it when you can use the same exact products they use, and do it yourself.

  1. As I am 4 years sober, the closest I come to wine is my favorite British candy, winegums. They are a necessary school supply because I need to feed my brain during all the late night studying I'll be doing.

  2. Brooms are outdated and rather drap. Instead, I prefer to ride in style on my roomba. How else am I to get from class to class? =]

  3. Hats are not my thing. Don't have the face shape for them. But a helmet for roomba riding would suit me better.

  4. Take me away calgon? Nah. Take me away Cassandra Clare to the wonderful land of Shadowhunters, Demons and Faeries. Anything to escape my studies.

  5. My current loot container is overflowing. Mayhaps a larger one for all of my girlish treasures? You're never fully dressed without a smile and some eyeliner. =p

Bonus - Superheroes don't wear capes. I'll take mine in the form of a rough around the edges demon hunter who loves pie. And who might also be about 4 inches tall in this case and can easily fit in my pocket for entertainment purposes of course. ;]

Ever given robot vacuums like roomba a try? I picked up a very highly rated budget one for $150 and most of the reviews are from dog owners saying how much it helps stop dog hair from getting everywhere.

Honestly its my favorite home item, i recommend getting one to all my friends and i bought one for my parents. Its great, you just set it on your phone to run however often you want and just come home and dump the container. It also makes you keep your floors clear because if you leave jackets on the floor it will drive onto them and get stuck. Its honestly amazing how much cleaner it keeps your place.

I got a Deebot N79s refurbished from amazon for about $130 but the new ones run around $200 for the best budget ones.
While reading way to many reviews it basically comes down to these two in the budget category.

Deebot N79s $211.97. It has 3.9 Stars out of 5 with 4,818 reviews. It is quiet enough you can run it in the same room while watching TV. I got this one because of the App support means i can easily control it from my phone and i can tell to to run whenever even if i am not home.

The other budget option is
RoboVac 11S $239.99 but also has a $20 of coupon available. It has 4.4 out of 5 with 6,677 reviews.

Both of these can be scheduled to run whenever you want it to. I have mine set to automatically run Monday and Friday when i am at work but i live alone with no pets, you can easily set it to run every day. Also it will fit under a lot of your furniture and pull so many dust bunnies out its incredible.

This one! I have had it for 2 years, works great. Easy to clean. I take the whole canister apart every 6 months to clean out all of the hair that gets stuck in there. Has great suction, beater bar does a great job and stays clean. I would definitely recommend it.

Also, it is under $100

u/Thecatcountess · 6 pointsr/blogsnark

I’ve been there! Here are my ideas:

Maybe a glowing led dog collar or a reflective dog vest for night walking? A dog raincoat is nice to have in the rainy months.

Pet beds always seem to need replacing.

I know you said she has a good vacuum, but one year I bought my parents a roomba for pet hair. I also bought them an eye vac because they sweep their kitchen so frequently and I thought it might save them from having to bend over so often.

You could buy ornaments with their names on them or pictures if she doesn’t already have them. You could also consider having pet portraits made by an Etsy artist or from r/artstore & r/hungryartists .

I’ve purchased catnip bubbles after seeing many internet cats enjoying them. However, my old tortie was NOT impressed. She prefers an actual plant that she can murder. You could grab a few plants. Heated cat houses are also a thing.

When all else fails, animal lovers generally seem to appreciate donations in their honor to animal welfare charities. Good luck!

Highly recommend the Xiaomi Mai Gen 2/Roborock S50. Not only is it cheaper than the Roomba, it cleans better and more methodically. Check out the COMMENTS section here: https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-robot-vacuum/

It is on amazon for $400 after a coupon now: https://smile.amazon.com/Roborock-Robotic-Connectivity-Navigating-Capacity/dp/B0792BWMV4

I have one and so far it has been amazing, it cleans thoroughly and has zero issues. The dust bin is always full when I empty it after the occasional cleaning, meaning it does its job really well. However, the company also does Facebook giveaways and promos - I got mine for $350 because of a discount code that I won by participating in a promo. For value AND efficiency, I really can't recommend this enough. But, do your own research as well - this is a big purchase. Don't just go with a Roomba because it's popular - the wirecutter article and comments, especially, are a good place to start reading.

u/Beard_of_Valor · 3 pointsr/VacuumCleaners

Jumbled mess excused. Reading comprehension I have, Hmm?

Probably meant a U1.

Riccar uprights, noted.

C2 Electro + good idea for uncertain future, check. I watched the video here, I gotta say it seems nice to be able to flick a switch to turn off the roller and switch to hard surfaces. The rugs come with and stay with the unit, so I have a weird need to go from surface to surface or sort of dart and squeeze...

C1 line isn't sealed (HEPA? Filtration?). What I'm hearing is "when the filtration of your bag fails, you will have nothing left in that department and your machine will spew out the particulates it's meant to capture, rather than kicking them around the inside for a bit longer until you change the bag like a decent human person".

The C1 is only $300 on Amazon ($350 for the Limited which I'm guessing has the extra attachments, which I'd spring for). Should I just make out like a bandit? At half the price, I don't think I'd mind buying another vacuum after I settle down more (geographically). What am I "missing out on" from the C2 Electro +? Just the seal? And the remedy is to be mindful of the bags?

The C2 can be had at nearly the same low price (hard wood version), but it doesn't say "electro +" which, I gather from my exhaustive and somewhat confusing delve into the vacuum world refers to the electrobrush, essential for getting dirt out of carpets with a cannister vacuum. Am I on the right track here? Don't skip the electrobrush, full stop?

I don't mind driving 80 minutes one way to buy a vacuum. I mind driving 80 minutes one way to evaluate vacuums and pulling the trigger under pressure and leaving confused and regretful. I was looking forward to driving To The City to look at higher quality vacuums but as I was getting navigation I noticed they're permanently closed. It's down to totally sketchballs shacks with no riccar, miele, or sebo at all. Electrolux, maybe.

C3 is bigger. Okay, I'm a giant 6'4" young man, and not worried about hauling around a little extra. You lost me at door vs pig tail and I really did search for images and pig tails and I can only guess you're referring to the power cord. I guess the C3 goes to the base and not the electrobrush attachment? Something like that?

All in all, I absolutely recognize and accept that I'm going to get what I pay for. I believe there will be drawbacks and removed attachments that make the $300-$350 range vacuums deal breakers. My sister loves her Dyson and I don't mean to dissuade her (and in fact I've used it and thought it was just fine, it's a higher tier model for pets and does the job in their small single story house). I could get a Dyson, but I feel like I would regret not getting a decent vacuum for the same reason you want a decent bed. It's not the most glamorous piece of your house, but dang if a good one doesn't pay dividends for your health and well-being and happiness. With that in mind, it sounds like a C-series is right for me. The C1 sounds like it's more of a cost savings and physically lighter model. The C2 sounds more like an all-rounder, and the C1 is King Kong Big Boy, same power and price point just bigger. Am I anywhere near the mark?

You've been very helpful already, thanks.

The iLife A4 is by far the best bang for the buck. I have two for less than the price of others l, and it works fantastic. Most of my friends and family now own the same model after witnessing mine perform. Random pattern clean, but it rarely struggles to get back to base and has a max clean mode that is not loud at all - with great suction. We have pets, and this thing is always full of small hair particles. It generally goes over the same spot numerous times, which results in a deeper clean.

I have a Golden Retriever and two cats with all hardwood floors. Fur management is a big part of my life.

First of all, be glad you have wood floors because once you are setup, wood and tile floors are so much easier to keep clean of pet hair.

Second, I'm sure others will mention this but any fur you proactively remove from your animals by brushing is fur that you will not have to clean up. My life has been much easier since I convinced myself of this fact. Brush, brush brush. Brush everyday. It's good bonding time between you and your dog and it's easier than vacuuming. If you can't get a loaf of bread sized hairball off your Golden everyday in the summer, you need a different brush. Also, consider the nuclear option. I used to have my previous Golden shaved every May. By late October, he would have all his fur back more beautiful than ever. He particulalry hated the heat and we saw a big change in his activity level every time we shaved him. Now, shaving Goldens is about as controversial as you can get in the dog world but it worked fine for me.

Tools - I had been considering picking up a $500.00 Dyson "Animal" vacuum. I tend to wear out every vacuum I buy within a year so was going to go for quality. One thing that bothers me about the Dyson (and the Roomba) is that it has a spinning brush. Spinning brushes are the Achilles heel of pet vacuums and really aren't needed for a wood floor. I stumbled on the vacuum linked below and bought it a few weeks ago. Very highly reviewed for pet hair. No spinning brush. The machine is optimized specifically for pet hair and works awesome. $65 bucks.

Whats your opinion on this vaccum?

Hoover Tempo WidePath Bagged Upright Vacuum, U5140900

I am not an expert, but it seems to be the "civilian" version of what you find in every single office and hotel. I've had it for 5 years and it works wonderfully.

Just how much better would a $300 vacuum be? Sure, it may not be all shiny and space-age like the one you posted.. but for $80 I find it an amazing buy.

u/st0n3wa1l · 2 pointsr/VacuumCleaners

Here is a good canister that would suit your needs. Its a little over budget but totally worth it. This will do both your barefloors and carpeting. It is a bagged vacuum that will do very well with your pet hair. By the way, no matter how many bags you go through it will still be cheaper than maintance on a bagless vacuum. Bagless vacuums usually have 2 filters in them that you have to replace that each cost much more than a couple packs of bags will. Plus bagless vacuums get dirty and you physically have to wash them every once in a while or you'll just be blowing dust all over your house. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005JTHQXQ/ref=s9_simh_gw_g201_i1_r?ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=1Q5M551DY0D0G48XAQ6N&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=2437869742&pf_rd_i=desktop

This vacuum is the most reliable vacuum I know. The only problem is that its only for barefloors and indoor/outdoor carpeting. It has so much suction that will just stick to your regular depth carpting. At this price you could easily pick up another vacuum just to clean your area rug. I have a few school districts, colleges, and commercial cleaning companies using these. They rarely have any problems. http://www.amazon.com/Eureka-Mighty-Canister-Vacuum-3670G/dp/B00002N8CX/ref=sr_1_5?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1458392399&sr=1-5&keywords=barefloor

If you went with the mighty mite you could pick this up as your vacuum for your rug. http://www.amazon.com/Hoover-WidePath-Bagged-Upright-U5140900/dp/B0009ONZ8G/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1458392971&sr=1-1&keywords=hoover+tempo It will do a good job and a bonus to this vacuum is that you'll be able to find the bags and belt anywhere.

*The Hoover Windtunnel Self-Propelled vacuum you linked is a good choice also. It will do your bare floors and your carpeting. However, I need to warn you that it is as heavy as a kirby. So if you have back problems or are going up and down steps a lot its not the vacuum for you.

Just remember to pick up extra bags for whichever one(s) you decide to purchase. Good Luck

u/stizzleomnibus1 · 3 pointsr/VacuumCleaners

We tend to like bagged canister vacs. For what it's worth, a canister vac keeps its weight on the ground and just drags behind you. It's about the same weight if you have to carry it up stairs, but it's in two parts so it's way easier to carry.

Check this guy out.

It's got both a powered carpet head and a hardwood floor head included. It's corded which is way more powerful. It's bagged so you have to empty it far less often. The compact is also pretty light. And it's about $120 less than the dyson.

That said, the total package weight on Amazon is 3x as much. That includes multiple heads and accessories, so it doesn't weigh that much in practice. If you have stairs, this will definitely be harder to move up and down. That said, doing my stairs is the ONLY time I ever even lift my vacuum; it's meant to roll, so you never really have to pick it up unless you're storing it somewhere weird.

Hope that helps!

u/refugefirstmate · 2 pointsr/dogs

Aside from all the suggestions that have been made, two more: a robot vacuum and if you have hard floors, an electric mop.

I'm in TX. We have six dogs (mostly pits) who are indoor-outdoor at will. Their yard is half a fenced, wooded acre. From the beginning of October to the middle of January it rained torrents every other day. Onto clay that is well beyond absorbing more water. We're at the top of a hill and there are still ponds of water. And the amount of (thankfully, gray not red) clay six active dogs will bring into the house in a day....well, I think it topped out at about 2 cups. They'd come in with virtual platform shoes of clay on their feet. And the dust..OMG the dust. As fine as photocopier toner.

Especially as I'm what the Brits call "house proud" (and former OCD cleaner), I was about at my wits' end until I bought the two aforementioned gadgets. The deebot runs 4x a day, and I now only mop every 3-4 days.

It's like I got my house back. Now the dogs are nothing but fun for me.

Okay,the gadgets:

Note that the mop (which I got in cordless form, new on ebay for $125) is not a steam mop; instead, it squirts cleaner on the floor and then immediately vacuums it up, like a carpet cleaner does. Best thing since wi-fi, I swear.

You can also get velcro belly-bands for males who mark, and having raised a foster litter of pups, I strongly recommend Odoban. Only thing I know that actually gets the stink out of absolutely everything.

u/septicidal · 1 pointr/InfertilityBabies

I use a long-handled Swiffer duster thingie (it traps dust instead of just moving it around and has an extendable handle so I can reach up high or down low (without bending over).

That being said, air filters will make a big difference at least with circulating dust if not pet hair. If you have central air/forced air heat (ducts) make sure there are good filters on the main unit and they are changed regularly. We have electric heat so this isn't an option for us, but since I have dust mite and pet dander allergies, I have a powerful HEPA air filter for the bedroom. For general cleaning, floors are vacuumed with a Dyson (which has lifetime HEPA filters) - including hardwood and tile, we never sweep just vacuum, since it seems faster and better gets all the cat fur (we have 3 cats). We have the Dyson Animal upright, which we got refurbished to save money. I also recently got a DustBuster with an extendable nozzle, which is great for getting dust/debris on surfaces and in between fully vacuuming the rooms. It doesn't have HEPA filters, but does have filters that seem to trap dust well. This is what I have: http://www.amazon.com/DECKER-CHV1410L-Lithium-Cordless-Buster/dp/B006LXOJC0/

I bought a Shark on sale about four years ago. It is bagless and came with a stair attachment. It’s really sweet because it comes apart in all different ways so you can push it like regular, you can make it like where the suction part is on a long pole (I don’t know how to describe it), it has various attachments. You can hand wash all the filters so you don’t need to keep buying them, and there’s a ring that allows you to adjust the suction. It works as well now as it did the day I bought it. Highly recommend.

This might be a bit odd but I recently picked up one of these, ILIFE A4.

I dreaded the every other week vacuuming/cleaning schedule. Since I got this thing I rarely need to vacuum anymore, just two small carpeted areas. I swear this thing finds dirt I never knew I had.

Side effect is it's reduced the amount of dust in the house so dusting isn't needed as often and it's actually motivated me to keep other areas clean since this little thing does all the heavy lifting. It also "polishes" the floor a bit so not only are they clean but have a nice shine to them.

It really only works on very low knit carpet and wood/tile floors. It will clean two of my four carpets and both tile and wood floors every time it runs, and I run it daily.

Note: Do some research if you decide to get one, they can be found for $160 to $170 USD.

As far as cooking, I'm there with you. I used to cook all the time I just don't have the motivation anymore. I started to make my own pizza dough and that has been a help as I'm constantly trying to make it better and come up with new topping ideas. I made a Jerk Chicken and Smoked Brisket one a few weekends ago at a friends party.

Maybe. I can see how it would be nice to have for small spills like that, but especially with Dysons, where the price is much higher, I can't justify spending that much money on a machine that would only be good for tiny spills and short cleaning. I think something like this Eureka MightyMite (< $70) is much better for that kind of spill, and way more value for your money. http://www.amazon.com/Eureka-3670G-Mighty-Canister-Vacuum/dp/B00002N8CX Especially since the Dysons are almost always $200+

I clean the interior of my PC about every 2 months with a DataVac. As some people already posted, this can be found here.

Now, for your photo. Yes, crevices of peripherals can get very nasty. I am actually surprised someone didn't post this yet, but Super Clean High Tech Cleaning Compound is the bees knees. I use this stuff all the time.

What it is, is a slime like pliable substance that sticks to small particles. You can roll it over keyboards, mouses, in crevices, over fan grills, etc., and it will pull all the gunk out. I have quite a few packs of these in my desk.

Happy cleaning.

We have the Roborock S5 vacuum off of Amazon.

It's quite pricey and not everyone can justify for an expensive vacuum cleaner, but this model is quite smart and is considerably cheaper than the mainstream brand (the equivalent costs about $800 or more if I'm not mistaken).

I used to have the cheaper robot vacuum and it wasn't very "smart". It'd bump into everything, get stuck and had a hard a hard time navigating back "home" (charging dock) to recharge.

I had my doubts on this new one we just got because of our past experience but we liked the fact that the floor was so clean every day and pretty smart. We have tile floors. You know that feeling when you're walking around barefoot and you just stepped on something dry or the bottom of your feet just feels dusty or crumbly? Yeah, no more of that! (We used to vacuum only on weekends)

Before I talk endlessly about the joys of owning a robot vacuum, I'll stop here :P Let me know if you have any questions though. We've owned this for more than a month now and it's been running every day for about 45 minutes, cleaning our whole one floor house. We also have a cat and it picks up cat hair just fine.

I wish i could recommend the vacuum we own but it's sadly way too pricey. If you're interested in the type it's a miele canister vacuum, I highly recommend it because they work so well but it's quite pricey. I think the lowest price is $299.

For ones that aren't that high priced you might try out this handheld vacuum to quickly suck out any pet hair that may be on furniture.

If you're looking for a larger vacuum that is upright and a lift-away this one might be useful to you. It's lightweight and comes with pet tools.

If upright vacuums aren't you're thing you might like this canister vacuum. It's compact and appears to have an easy empty dirt tank so you might not need to buy vacuum bags which will save you some money.

the shark navigator has worked so well for us on every type of surface. i was pretty grossed out by how well it pulled stuff up lol. it's easy to empty and intuitive to operate, hands down the best vacuum i've ever had. it's a good price right now too, i paid $20 more.

Ideally, monthly. But a few months apart, like 3 or 4, wouldn't cause any harm either.

For cleaning, I highly recommend a datavac. IMHO, best of the blower style cleaners. Made in the usa with a good motor and washable filter. Been using mine heavily for more than a year now.

u/littlestray · 1 pointr/Pets

In comparison to other haired breeds, rexes (cornish rex, devon rex, et cetera) shed LESS, but they do still shed. All fur sheds.

As for keeping up with the shedding, I've had my eye on this for awhile, I hear good things. Also, keep on top of grooming so you can dispose of a good amount of the fur in the bin instead of slowly all over the house.

Aside from that, it is just a fact of life cat parents accept that everything will get cat hair on it. Everything. So if you don't want a hairless cat and can't cope with shedding, I'd reconsider how much you want a cat. Saying you want a cat but don't want to deal with dander and hair (but no hairless, please) is like saying you want a bird that doesn't make any noise. It's just part of the package.

Vacuum cleaners are supposed to be pretty bad for some reasons, but my mom used one when I was a kid and we never had any problems on that front. These days though, I use one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Metro-Vacuum-ED500P-500-Watt-Electric/dp/B001U899HQ

They are a little pricy, but they do a good job and you won't have to deal with replacing canned air.

I'd also recommend a small brush for getting the fans.

EDIT: https://www.amazon.com/Brushes-Portable-Cleaning-Keyboard-Interior/dp/B07CQH78NS

Something like the toothbrush looking one will do good for cleaning fans off. Alternatively you can just use a cheap toothbrush.

I bought this Robotic Vacuum around Christmas last year and it was on sale for $180 and the thing has been awesome! I was very skeptical because I didn’t think it would work or get the whole house or for that matter pick up anything. I never have to worry about vacuuming and the thing just picks up everything. It goes off everyday while I’m at work and it’s one task I never have you worry about.

A total of 7 separate orders. It was a bit annoying because I was mostly on my phone and the mobile apps/chrome wouldn't load properly. Also I would have preferred to bundle orders but oh well. or try to use more coupons but they only give you so many minutes in the cart and sometimes the next item that you're waiting for a deal to start is right outside that window.

u/CaptainCoral · 7 pointsr/dogs

This pet hair eraser hand vac. It is amazing. It works so well, and pet hair is loosened by the rubber grips in the end, so it even pulls out pet hair that's threaded into blankets and the backseat. Worth every penny, especially since we have to vacuum our bedding every day when our dog is blowing her coat, and pretty much every few days during the rest of the year, haha.

Hello! It looks like this post is somewhat active so I'll ask my question here. I've been looking for a vacuum to replace our $50 Eureka and am currently eyeing a couple of different Miele vacuums on Amazon.

Miele S2121 Delphi

Miele S2121 Capri

I currently have enough credit to cover either of the vacuums, and want to make the best purchase I can. Any other specific models I should be considering? Our apartment has medium carpet, hardwood floors, and concrete, with the potential for pets in the future.

Also, is there any downside to buying a Miele on Amazon instead of with a local dealer?

EDIT: I've been combing through your comments on other questions, and have been looking more specifically at s6 and s8 models. S6 is probably more within my reach. Model recommendations?

u/RedditAccount2416 · 2 pointsr/Tools

How much are you looking to spend?

Metro makes a few products, Datavac. They are around $70- $100, but they aren't heated. I've got This Guy And it's pretty much a mini leaf-blower. Metal housing, not sure it would handle too many "drops", but it seems reasonably well built.

There are some car detailing products are also heated, like the Metro Master Blaster that produced a lot of heated air. Not as hot as like a heat gun, but they will definitely dry things.

u/kreaol · 1 pointr/sysadmin

I concur. I have one, and love it. Got mine on Amazon though: http://www.amazon.com/Metro-Vacuum-ED500P-500-Watt-Electric/dp/B001U899HQ

What are you talking about, it getting warm? It doesn't get warm. This thing has BURNED me before. Still 10x better then canned air though, and more powerful.

u/NotSuzyHomemaker · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I must have a new vacuum -or- gift cards towards it. I'm just so happy that I finally got hubby to see the light on the need for a new vacuum! My current vacuum is an actual professional model that weighs a metric crapton (not good for someone with back problems) and has one whopping attachment. One.

How I chose my screen name: I always joke "Suzy Homemaker I am not". And so there you go ... NotSuzyHomemaker.

And the irony of my screen name combined with the item I want the most =P

u/middlefingur · 9 pointsr/videos

I got the Eureka 3670G Mighty Mite Canister Vacuum from Amazon because of your recommendation. It's absolutely fantastic!

No need to lug the full size vacuum all over the house.

Keep up the great work! And your video was excellent!

I have a Roomba 650 and this aftermarket wifi cover and really enjoy it. Home Assistant integrates with Thinking Cleaner perfectly, and its Alexa support enables "Hey Alexa, turn on the roomba." Saying that still feels magical every time.

u/NebraskaSkyline · 2 pointsr/blogsnark

Not sure if it's exactly what you mean, since I use dustbuster as a catchall term for hand vac and others may not ... but this thing hasn't done me wrong. https://www.amazon.com/BLACK-DECKER-Dustbuster-Cordless-CHV1410L/dp/B006LXOJC0

(Duh, I just realized dustbuster is literally in the product name so it prob is what you were referring to. Anyhow).

Its best feature is that it picks up kitty litter that doesn't then shake back out when you turn it off. My maintenance guys gunked mine up with drywall dust and it still rinsed clean and works like new. Charges quickly, sits and goes for long times without needing plugging in. I'm really pleased with it.

The only downside is that the slim head that slides out is a little touchy/either doesn't lock in place well or locks too well and is hard to slide, and the little whiskery bit for carpets is kind of eh. But it's a tough little bastard on cat hair and all the crap I spill in my kitchen constantly. Plus SoCal interstate dust through that comes in constantly through the windows. Thumbs up from me.

u/DiamondSmash · 4 pointsr/blogsnark

I have the older model of the Shark Navigator Professional (mine doesn't lift away so it was a little less expensive, too).

I am anxiously excited to start the RAOA School of Mischief & Merriment. I do, however, feel that I am not quite prepared. I keep looking at the list of supplies needed. Perhaps you could assist me, that is if you don't mind.

I will most definitely need my book, that is if I want to keep track of all the spells and potions. That class will surely give me anxiety, lol.

I have heard that many suffer from Morthy-itis. Perhaps I should bring this so I can open a necessary adult beverage to pour into said container.

I have heard that the professors like us working like house-elves, so I should bring along this just in case.

For those cold nights, this will keep my head in the game.

They're good at getting their nose into trouble, maybe they can teach me a few things.

Oh, I cannot forget these. They will surely keep me hidden and invisible from any pesky bugs.

We were gifted a Shark vacuum (this one) 2 years ago. It's great. It works just as well as when we got it. Lightweight, easy to clean, and gets the hair of two adult curlies and two dogs (one is a husky. we vacuum enough hair to make another husky on a weekly basis).

I saw you're still replying to things in here as of a few days ago, so crossing my fingers you'll be able to help me out. My fiance and I want to add a vacuum to our wedding registry (expecting it'll be a "group gift" thing, since $$$). I was looking at the Miele Compact C2 Electro+, but wanted your advice:

We have two cats and a dog. I have somewhat long hair. We currently live in a townhouse that's fully carpeted, but we plan to move shortly after the wedding and wan't to live somewhere with hardwood floors and/or only partial carpeting.

Is the C2 Electro+ a good option for us? Or should we splurge for something like the C3 Cat & Dog? Also, is the SEB228 Electrobrush that comes with the C2 the same as an "electric powerbrush" that I saw you mention in a comment to another user with carpets?

u/terpichor · 3 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

Ok ladies: holy crap when that vacuum guy did those AMAs he recommended this beauty. I have a roomba too, but this thing actually makes vacuuming fun. The bags can hold a lot and it's nice to not deal with cleaning out the (expensive) bagless vacuum I used to use. This also sucks better. The cord is absurdly long, too, and it comes with all the attachments standard.

So. If you're in the market, I would HIGHLY recommend this. Cleaning hair out of vacuums is the worst.

I bought a Miele S2121 Capri Canister Vacuum Cleaner almost 4 years ago (Amazon link) and think it's pretty great!

However, it has an incredibly strong smell whenever I turn it on - I'm assuming it's the motor. Any suggestions on what to clean or if there is something to replace that I'm not thinking about?

u/Romkslrqusz · 2 pointsr/techsupport

My favorite tool for the task is a DataVac - pretty much a high intensity blower. It’s stronger than canned air by a long shot, and even blasts of that extra ‘sticky’ dust. Kinda pricey though ($80 USD)

Dry Fiber + Friction = static so don’t use the wipes you were talking about. Anything you’re going to be rubbing against components should be lightly saturated in rubbing alcohol.

Canned air works alright, especially if you’ve only got a light amount of dust.

u/natsw79 · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

I got this one. Not a Roomba but it's a similar type device. It does a fantastic job on my carpet, better than the linoleum floor for some reason since reviewers were stating the opposite.

u/ChrisF79 · 1 pointr/Pets

My wife and I got this Roomba for pets (that's important) as a wedding gift and to say it's life changing is an understatement. It does an amazing job in corners but as said elsewhere, it won't replace vacuuming. It will however make it feel as though you recently vacuumed and cut down the frequency that you vacuum by a ton. Just be sure to keep the tray empty (it fills up faster than you think) and you'll absolutely love it.

u/RexBaba · 1 pointr/VacuumCleaners

After doing some additional looking around, how nicely would a Miele S2121 Canister Vacuum hold up for my requirements?

It is currently listed for $399 - is this a reasonable price? Would I be able to get a better deal by going to a dealership?

Thanks again!

u/vthokies96 · 1 pointr/VacuumCleaners

Thanks for the response.

Can you elaborate on how exactly cat litter damages a vacuum? We just bought a new Sebo vacuum that we're happy with, but since it was quite expensive, we're trying to find a separate machine to use for the litter.

The Whoosh looks nice, but event that's big. We're really looking for something like this: http://www.amazon.com/DECKER-CHV1410L-Lithium-Cordless-Buster/dp/B006LXOJC0

Should we just assume that anything we buy would break down quickly due to the litter and just go with the cheapest option that would be powerful enough to suck up the litter?

u/DariusBieber · 2 pointsr/VacuumCleaners

I would buy the older version, it’s still available for purchase.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0009ONZ8G/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1520147015&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=hoover+tempo&dpPl=1&dpID=31a988GQ9tL&ref=plSrch

And that vacuum is probably the best within the $100 price range. Amazon reviews are notoriously bad in rating vacuums. Most people aren’t aware what actually makes a good machine.

If your budget goes higher but within $200, then the Hoover Windtunnel (bagged) is your best bet.

I just use a hand vacuum. I don't bother, but if one wanted to be extra careful, they could put down a towel and vacuum the towel afterwards instead of the floor/counter top. Plastic bags are getting harder to come by since they're not allowed in my state's grocery stores, and reducing our consumption of plastic is a good thing, anyway.

u/alsoaperson · 2 pointsr/BabyBumps

If you need to cover a larger section of floor, Amazon also sells gym style floor tiles. They're basically the same as the kid ones but a little thicker and without any pattern. They're usually cheaper too.

I also recommend that people add a small hand vac to their registries. I have this one and with a toddler it gets used several times a day (by both of us!).

I'm also wondering this.

  • It's a bit suspicious given that this model can't be bought anywhere other than amazon.

  • This model only has 10 reviews. It's almost like it was just added to amazon for this sale. The 650 has over 2000 reviews.

  • The thetracktor page for the 614 has very little fluctuation in price, which is a bit suspicious imo. The thetracktor page for the 650 has a lot more regular price movment.

I'd say that although it's a reasonable deal for a Roomba, I don't think it's as good a deal as they'd like us to believe.

edit: According to the the Amazon page, the only difference between the 614 and 650 is the scheduling feature. I'd say it's a pretty decent deal. I may end up going for it.

For Valentine's day I asked my boyfriend for a robot vacuum instead of flowers. I know last year he spent over $100 for one of those elaborate arrangements, and I was able to convince him that a robot vacuum would give me pleasure and happiness every day instead of flowers that will die in a week. I did a bunch of research and we got an ILIFE vacuum, which was only $180 on amazon. Totally affordable, you should look into it. An $800 name brand Roomba might be better if you have carpet, but this guy works wonders on hardwood. I am not a shill. Just a happy girl with a big, shedding dog and now constantly clean floors.

Edit: I bought the ILIFE A4. Just looked it up on Amazon to link it and there is apparently an updated version they just released called the A4S which is $220 but now you can buy the older model I have for only $120

Your better bet would be to go to /r/vacuumcleaners. That being said, their stock recommendation for a good starter vacuum in the $100 range seems to be the Hoover Tempo, currently almost exactly $100 on amazon (though a few days ago it was $84): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009ONZ8G/

I bought the Shark Navigator Lift-Away Vacuum NV352 about 6 months ago and it's been working really well. I have a cat with long hair in my small apartment and this picks up all the hair without clogging or losing suction. I think it specifically mentions preventing allergies on its filter although that's not something I really care about. I bought it at Bed, Bath & Beyond with one of those 20% off coupons so I only ended up paying something like $140 which was significantly cheaper than most of the other vacuums I looked at. If you are only going to use it for computer cleaning. Just stick to compressed air. It would take years to pay you back. And by then it might be out of warranty and broken.

I bought this on amazon and it works great. It has a lot of suction, and also has a spinning brush. The only downsides I have noticed are that it's somewhat loud (mostly the sound of the suction, not the motor) and that it is a bit hard to clean since it's a canister vac.
Edit: it's also not cordless, like the reply above me is talking about. I believe there is a cordless model though.

u/considerthelobsters · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I believe it was this one. It's new, so we've only used it a couple times, but he said it worked pretty effectively but the downside was it was a little slow.

u/t0ny7 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Dust is nothing really to worry about. You just need to clean it out every now and again. You can use something like this instead of buying those compressed air cans.

I use a pool pump. It might be as powerful as the one I linked but it does the job ok. I may pick up that duster at some point when I can afford too.

u/StargateGuy · 10 pointsr/PS4

> Maybe a link? I searched amazon eduster and nothing comes up.

This is the exact model I have, but its been superceded by a new model.

The cheapest one I see on Amazon is the EasyGo CompuCleaner that Worstguy656 linked already.

I haven't but canned air in the better part of a decade.

u/urbanbumfights · 1 pointr/TechnologyProTips

First thing I would do is scan for any viruses. Get Malwarebytes and use that as well.

If nothing comes up with those, I would open up your PC and clean the dust out. Preferably with a PC Vac. Something like this.

If none of that works, you'll might want to think about replacing hardware. Maybe getting a new HDD or switching to an SSD if you don't already have one.

u/DeadPlasmaCell · 3 pointsr/Pets

We have a cattle dog/chihuahua mix who sheds quite a bit, I usually get a lint roller and go to town first then use a reg. vacuum with a brush attachment, but my father in-law sent us this for xmas and it works fantastic

u/InfDisco · 1 pointr/lyftdrivers

This vacuum is amazing. You will need to charge it at home but it's a very powerful little vacuum.

How about a Roomba? Schedule it to vacuum your floors while you are work and keep the pet hair down. It's also fun to watch how the pets react. For example, one of my dogs likes to chase it around and bark at it.

> 15 square meters? Thats very small 🤔

Yeah, after I buy my bed and wardrobe, there's like 10 sqm of vacumable surfaces left. It's why I am looking for something rather cheap :P But i guess that for area, it's not worth 350 bucks. This seems cheap, but doesn't have mapping, and my room is T-shaped, so not sure if it would be good there.

u/vacuumsaregreat · 2 pointsr/VacuumCleaners

After owing one for a few years, I'd strongly recommend a Hoover Platinum LiNX. Although you lose out on the DC59's above floor cleaning ability, this machine comes in at about half the price, meaning that you could pick up some kind of battery powered hand vac for those purposes.

What kind of environment will the vacuum be used in?

u/Bobodehclown · 1 pointr/parrots

You didn't specify if you need a full size or handheld, but I have a Eureka 71b hand vac and it's very powerful. Be warned it is very loud (and heavy for its size), but doesn't leave anything behind. Less than $40. http://www.amazon.com/Eureka-EasyClean-Corded-Hand-Held-71B/dp/B0006HUYGM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1463769374&sr=8-1&keywords=eureka+hand+vacuum

u/mlevin7 · 2 pointsr/VacuumCleaners

For my 600 sq ft apartment, I ordered the Xiaomi Gen 1 vacuum for $250 new on eBay from overseas. It can be hard to find a seller pop up for that price and I also have a dog.

If you don't care about the laser mapping and advanced features, the Deebot N79S (around $220, smartphone control) or the new Eufy 11s (physical remote, normally $220 but on sale for $187 on Amazon) are very solid options. Eufy 11s does let you schedule with the remote but it's also slimmer and more powerful than the N79.

u/KyleG · 1 pointr/homeowners

This one worked great for us. I'd only use it on carpet. I'd get something like this for wood and tile. Former will toss mabye 5-10% of debris on hard surfaces around rather than suck it up. But the attachments are great and performance on carpet is insane.

The latter I just use for hard surfaces because it's very light and maneuverable and doesn't throw stuff anywhere.

First time I used the former on carpet instead of the previous, old one we had, like a whole canister of rabbit hair (we're rabbit people) I couldn't even tell was in the carpet got sucked right up. Damn near sprouted wood it was so sexy.

u/justaway3 · 1 pointr/VacuumCleaners

Is this Hoover Tempo the vacuum you are recommending? Also, I read somewhere that bagged vacuums are better than bagless, is that still true today?

u/Lyd_Euh · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

[This one is cheap and has great reviews] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AZBIZTW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_XQV5yb0G7K6HC). His name is actually Harry. He likes to run around the house picking up all of the puppy hairs. He might even sing to you.

I have a canister vacuum and a tiny apartment... and putting away the vacuum is such a hassle. Do you recommend any specific way to organize or store these kinds of vacuums? They just take up so much space.

I got the Mighty Mite on your recommendation from another AMA you did. Got it for pretty cheap with a ton of bags.

u/MisterNoisy · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

u/IAmMalfeasance · 2 pointsr/buildapc

u/sigkircheis · 7 pointsr/amazon

Most items Amazon sells will be shipped in a box or envelope with shipping address and obvious it is from Amazon, but it won't indicate the content.

A few larger items are exceptions and will be shipped in the manufacture's original box, making it obvious what's inside; e.g. if you look at this vacuum cleaner you'll see it says, "This item's packaging will indicate what is inside. To cover it, select Ship in Amazon box on the checkout page. "

u/surlier · 3 pointsr/Frugal

Alternately, I was in a similar scenario and bought this. Still useful and in good condition 3 years later.

u/smellslikegelfling · 4 pointsr/funny

Check out the Shark Navigator on Amazon. It has about the same cleaning power as the Dyson for half the price. I bought one and it's great.

u/MrRockyboxer · 6 pointsr/LifeProTips

Don't waste your money on those air cans. They can get expensive if you keep buying them, and you'll have to let them cool down, because they get cold, and start to lose pressure over time of use.

Get one of these. I have one, and it's amazing. It does a better job dusting your PC, and it doesn't get cold, or lose pressure from long use. Not to mention, it'll be cheaper in the long run. Also, it's environmentally friendlier than those cans too.

Just a warning, it'll be loud, but it's very powerful.

u/britjh22 · 2 pointsr/Homebrewing

I use my Datavac that I already have from being a computer nerd, great for blowing out my immersion cooler and other lines, and it's nice and portable compared to most air compressors. That does the bulk of getting them dry.

u/Kopachris · 30 pointsr/homelab

I worked in a casino for six years, repairing slot machines for two of those. I know a thing or two about cleaning electronics that have been subjected to heavy tobacco smoke.

  1. Power it off, unplug it, ground the chassis. You'll probably want to do this in a garage or outside
  2. Go over it with a shop vac first, then an air compressor to get the hard-to-suck stuff. If you don't have an air compressor, I always used one of these at work and highly recommend them for cleaning your computers and servers. Be sure to get the fans really well--hold them with your finger to keep them from spinning real fast
  3. Pull everything out of it. Everything--power supply, hard drives, even the motherboard. Go over the components and the chassis and use the air compressor some more
  4. If it still needs more cleaning:
  • Medium-heavy degreaser to take out nicotine/tar and spilled drink stains on the metal chassis
  • Simple Green or other all-purpose cleaner diluted to medium strength according to the directions for plastic surfaces and the outside of covered components. Lint-free/microfiber cloth, you know the deal.
  • Circuit boards can be washed with regular soap and water, provided they're thoroughly dried before power is applied again. I always just used an air compressor and paper towels, but I've heard people say you can put them in your oven on its lowest temperature as long as you keep a close eye on them--they can warp if you're not careful. If you need to wash the motherboard, remove the CPU and heatsink. Rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs are good for removing thermal paste; you'll want to remove and replace it any time you separate the heatsink from the chip.

This vacuum is the one I have. I love it because it sucks! There are no bags to mess with. It has on board attachments and I love being able to use it to suck cob webs or get in the corners or even to clean crumbs off the sofa. The corn is also stored inside the vacuum so no tangles or cord to trip over. Just push a button and it automatically retracts.

u/GreatCatch · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This vacuum cleaner is affordable and has really great reviews for pet hair. Some say it's better than Dyson.

Eureka corded 71B. It's powerful and includes rotating brush head (can run with it off or on) and an extension hose and crevice tool. It might be a little heavier than most handheld vacuums. I was inordinately excited to receive this as a gift. 71B

u/itaveL · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I would recommend spending more, one time up front, and getting a snall blower instead of spending a bunch over your lifetime on compressed air.

This for example is great for cleaning PCs. I'm sure you can find cheaper alternatives elsewhere, but this is what I've used for years.

u/Feetos · 1 pointr/IFseniorclass

Ooh, I hadn't considered cleaning products. I ADORE my Bissell PowerEdge hard floor pet vacuum

u/krische · 1 pointr/roomba

In my opinion, if you don't want to pay for the i7+ or s9+ line of Roomba, I would look at other brands. Unless you are trying to go super cheap, I don't see a point in spending money on a random navigation robot anymore, LIDAR/vision is the way to go.

Watch this Vacuum Wars video: https://youtu.be/4Fed8durfb4

So I would look at the Roborock S5 $499, the Roborock S4 $399, or the Neato D4 $349.

I'm in the market for a new vacuum and am leaning towards buying a cheaper one, but I really feel like I'm going to regret it. I'm just in an apartment now so it's not a big deal, but will hopefully be buying a house in a few years.

Any vacuum advice you'd be willing to give? I don't have much experience in it since I'm currently using the old vacuum from my parents house that is probably 15 years old.

u/levislegend · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I have this shark vacuum and I absolutely love it. It's light weight so it's easy to use on stairs, and is great at picking up pet hair! I have 2 cats and a dog myself.

you should add this to your wishlist, just cause I think it's funny

The household chore I hate the most is doing laundry. I just can't stand it. IT NEVER ENDS!

u/trufus_for_youfus · 4 pointsr/antiMLM

I bought a Dyson (dont remember the model) in 2008. It beat the shit out of every $70-$200 vaccuum I had ever owned. I used to feel the exact same way as you. $600.00 for a vaccuum is a lot, so divide by the cheaper machines dollar amount and replace every so many years.

It isnt't just in the durability it has to do with the cleaning power and effectiveness and effort. I lost the Dyson in a divorce and currently have a Shark Navigator Professional. They run around $180-$200 online depending on the site and the time.

I have had it since around 2015 and it is 90% the vaccuum that the dyson is at around 1/3 the price. Highly recommended.

u/Ezirv · 1 pointr/buildapc

Others have recommended this and it would work quite well, and you wouldn't have to worry about water in the tank of the compressor.

u/ftendo · 2 pointsr/VacuumCleaners

Miele canisters are suppose to very good at controlling particulates. Though I don't have any personal experience with Miele Compact C2 Electro+ Canister Vacuum, it's apparently the Wirecutter's best pick for filtering allergen.
> Ultimately, some other vacuums match or nearly match the Miele models’ filtration, but we’re not aware of any that outperform it.

u/IrrationalHate · 1 pointr/IAmA

I'm looking to get a Hoover Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum for my workplace, as we have hardwood floors on one half and concrete on the other, and sweeping never really gets the place clean, no matter what my boss tells me.

Thoughts on it? I was mostly trying to stay away from a corded vacuum, if only because we don't have a lot of accessible outlets at work. But I'm open to being convinced otherwise.
