I’m a novice compared to a lot of folks on here. But, I’ve been diving in deep the past few months. I’m happy to share what I’ve learned. You say I know stuff - look at my flair - I get confused sometimes haha.
Nano oil:
So, if you’re looking for nano oil, know it’s most expensive on amazon. It’s cheapest on eBay and other places. It generally shouldn’t be that expensive.
Many say the best oil is KPL. Knife pivot lube. Available on amazon for $14. It’s the best for washer based knives. Whereas, nano oil is sometimes best for bearing based knives.
My recommendation for strops will follow this post. I got my strop from someone here on reddit and it’s great. Apply compound and when it gets grey with metal clean the strop with a pink eraser.
Lastly, when it comes to sharpening:
I use a sharpmaker to maintain my knives. Unless I buy a used knife that’s super dull, this is all I ever need. A knife shouldn’t get dull enough to be reprofiled, I think.
But, if I do need to reprofile, I use a lanksy system. I’ve got the standard kit but added a course and extra course diamond to help reprofile hard steels like super steels. The luxury solution (in my opinion) is a KME system. It’s too much to go into to discuss sharpening further than a device.
I’ll probably get some KPL when it runs out, but this is the oil I use right now:
Hoppe's No. 9 Lubricating Oil, 14.9 ml Precision Bottle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013R67A6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_S4-kDbW2GR41P
Supposedly it works, but I wouldn't rely on it, and I think paying $400 for one is a bit ridiculous. Especially since it adds one more thing you have to carry into the field. Play the wind and apply a cover scent. I'm thinking about buying this unit, as it is almost as effective as Ozonics without the need to carry it into the field, and only costs $50: http://www.amazon.com/WHITETAILR-401-WhitetailR-ScentPURGE-50/dp/B0058WEWGS
Last year Field and Stream did a test with drug sniffing dogs to see if they could follow a scent while wearing carbon activated clothing, spray scent neutralizer, and cover scent. The only thing that significantly reduced the dog's time in finding the hunter was cover scent. So during deer season (and probably a month or so before), use only scentfree soap and shampoo, scent free detergent, and make some cover scent from local leaves, sticks, acorns, apples and conifer needles.
People will swear by carbon activated scent control clothing, ozonics, and all sorts of scent control methods, saying "I had a deer approach me from upwind." But you almost never see a deer that smells you first. The only scent control I trust 100% is playing the wind.
I use Hoppe's #9 Lubricating Oil. I really enjoy it for it's applicator which is really thin and precise and does not spill even if you tip it over. One downside is that it's easy to break off.
I would stay away from WD40. It works just fine, but it attracts dirt easily. Also, stay away from olive oil LOL.
Hoppes #9 oil with precision dropper is great as well. I use this stuff all over the house -- it's great.
http://www.amazon.com/Hoppes-Lubricating-14-9-Precision-Bottle/dp/B0013R67A6
not wd40, you could try this (or a similar bearing lubricant) https://www.amazon.com/Hoppes-Lubricating-14-9-Precision-Bottle/dp/B0013R67A6/ref=sr_1_5?crid=396HZ8CRQE95B&dchild=1&keywords=bearing+lubricant&qid=1574097107&sprefix=bearing+lub%2Caps%2C136&sr=8-5
fan should be accessible through the housing opening to put a drop on the bearing. Though I wouldnt count on it helping.
probably need to replace the fan. yes, opening a PSU is not the safest thing... but if you wear thick rubber gloves (like dishwashing gloves, not latex or cotton gloves), your safe enough. Dont go poking things with metal, just get to the fan and get out.
Mine does the same thing in the same spot.
I use Hoppes #9 Lubricating Oil on all my multitools. Great stuff. I advise against WD-40. Although it does work, and does lubricate, it also seems to attract a lot of dirt and smell like WD40 for quite a while. Hoppes or any high-viscosity gun lubricant works best.
I suggest you to fuck up with her life in a not-too-harmful way.
I'd give you some examples if I'd known more about you guys, so you'll have to be creative and come up with your own mind games.
Some very general and innocent examples like putting salt n' pepper in her coffee, filling the shampoo bottles at her house with yogurt, or even just hiding her cellphone away from her and make her panic.
Ofc you could join the dark side and use stuff like spilling coyote urine on her bed(the smell is SUPER GROSS and lasts for days), sending her a pack of living insects as a gift, or just renting a couple of goats and letting them loose in her house.
Since you can't get rid of the problem(your MIL), you might as well just enjoy trolling her.
I love Pete Rickard's Skunk Essence, I usually get it here: http://www.pcsoutdoors.com/peterickardsskunkessencecoverscent.aspx
As for pure quill (for that "fresh sprayed" strength needing an outdoor shed, thick plastic trunk, Mason Jar full of birdseed and multiple space bags to contain), I usually order it here: http://www.wildlifecontrolsupplies.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=WCSSKUNK
But I see that unfortunately when I ordered it at $25, they've gone up in recent years so you might try this stuff instead: https://www.amazon.com/Harmon-Scents-Hunting-Ounces-Attractant/dp/B003WHHVWS/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1496021182&sr=8-9&keywords=Skunk+spray
Popular brands are Nano Oil 10wt,Militec-1,Benchmade Blue lube,Hoppe's No. 9,KPL Knife Pivot Lube,3-in-1 oil,and Tuff Glide dry lubricantjust to name a few in no particular order. I personally like Nano-oil the best but have been hearing really good things about KPL.
Here's the manual for a '42 Royal Arrow (very similar) http://www.machinesoflovinggrace.com/manuals/RoyalArrowManual.pdf
Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Hoppes-Precision-Lubricating-14-9ml-Bottle/dp/B0013R67A6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381183565&sr=8-1&keywords=needle+oiler
should help with oiling. Enjoy!
If i flip heavy its at least once a week, normally i can tell when my bali needs more lube. I'm a big fan of Hoppe's 9 lubricating oil, you can get a 15ml bottle with a nice applicator tip for like $8 on amazon.
Here is the link if you want it
That's the minimum. I would also recommend CLP as a mid-step between solvent and lube, and as a general cleaner and protectant. Cleaning brushes and picks are useful for getting into the harder to reach places. Finally a bore snake down the barrel at the range after shooting from chamber to muzzle a couple times will make cleaning significantly easier.
They sell odorless deorant, like this.
Personally, I use regular deodorant in the morning, then use scent-reducing spray and wipes when I head out.
There's nothing superstition about it-- Hogs can smell extremely well. You should always hunt with the wind, but even so, reducing your scent can only help.
Actually you can buy Fox Urine on Amazon. It's great for warding off MILs and getting squirrels out of your attic.
Give them a sample bottle full of this, don't forget to put on your best troll face.
I think its a deer scent wick. Soaks up doe urine or other scent and it evaporates into the air. Is it like felt or some other absorptive material?
Yep: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005F06BEY
Edit: Sorry if I misused amazon link. HME Big Dipper Scent Wick
>Yeah, I don't think we have an aerosol form of corn yet
Sure we do!
Apparently it's delicious.
Im a clean freak and I never let my gear go stinky. Here are some products I've used and worked really well. Get which ever is on sale/cheaper. Trick is to completely rinse out the detergent, while not using too much. I usually use only half of the recommended amount and run the cycles until I don't see anymore bubble residue between the glass and rubber gasket. Also make sure your washing machine isn't disgusting either, esp HE washers.

It's cheap enough that even college kids could afford it.
The modern world is amazing.
Just walk thru the crowd and empty one of these in each hand

This happened to me with spilled formula all over the diaper bag. It got soaked on my husband's flight home with Z when I had food poisoning, and he didn't do anything about it for 2 days. Everything smelled like old sweaty socks.
Washing with regular detergent did nothing, but I had a bottle of this stuff from when we were gifted a batch of baby clothes that smelled like cigarette smoke. I washed the clothes and the diaper bag with it and the smell is gone completely from the clothes and the diaper bag just smells a bit off, but not disgusting anymore.
How much does your friend think they can drink?

Never use WD-40 on a typewriter. It is a good short-term fix but will cause massive issues down the line once it gets dirt in it and gums up.
This oil is what I use on all my typewriters and I find it works very well.
As for a squealing belt, the basics are the same as for an accessory belt on a car... you can make the squealing go away for a little bit with belt dressing and the like, but the only real fix is to replace the belt. Remove the belt, measure it (width, style, length) - if it has teeth count them, if it doesn't, wrap a cloth tape or string around it and measure it or cut the belt and measure it, and get a replacement off amazon.
Just a little fox piss in the cowl vents under their wipers should do the trick, especially when they need to use their A/C or heater.
EDIT: Follow the advice about using gloves. This stuff is strong, and there's no greater tell than walking around also smelling like fox piss.
Time to craft a skunk-essence-filled gift. Guaranteed success for under $10.
Edit: replaced the words 'skunk-bomb' because people are paranoid.
maybe try something like Scent Away. My husband has used it on his hunting clothes so his scent doesn't scatter in the breeze.
Well you recall half correctly. There's a solvent and an oil. I use the oil obviously.

You can also buy springs separately and swap them in! That prevents you from buying a whole other set of switches only for components. While you have them open putting 2 drops of knife oil on the springs will prevent them from becoming "pingy" in the future.

I am going to give you a better and easier idea. Doe urine. As in "doe, a deer, a female deer." It's terrible smelling and you can just drip some down the air vents. You could probably get in legal trouble from this so I am not advocating it. Just offering up alternative smells if you go that route.

I’ve been using this and like it quite well:

In just gonna leave this here:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LPS1YME/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_7.jhDbTETADPE
Hoppe's No. 9 oil.
kinds off topic but if you look at the MSDS of Hoppes lubricating oil it appears to be just white mineral oil in a bottle that goes for $410 per liter.
You could get the same thing for slightly less money if you don't need the fancy bottle. I think if you buy this you'll be paying about 5 bucks a liter instead $410.
I might be missing something though, Hoppes might have additives that I didn't see.
I bought a small ozone generator last year ($40 unit for the truck/in a bag) to test out. I generally wash my outer garments every 3-4 hunts and my under clothes after every trip. I wanted to cut down on how many washes I had to do so I bought the small unit to test to see if it does indeed help with the odors. I do not have a separate washer/dryer for hunting clothes and I NEVER run a clean out cycle to remove any residual soap from my normal washes so I think my actual clothes washing technique is mediocre at best. That's why I wanted an ozone unit, plus it was cheap to try.
Here are my unscientific results:
The toughest test that I could try was my boots. My feet sweat bad which makes my boots stink. I've tried hundreds of sock combos and drying techniques to keep my feet and boots dry. I've rubbed antiperspirant on my feet the night before a hunt. I can literally wring my socks out after a hunt. This moisture has always made my boots smell.
I purchased a large bin to mount the ozone unit in. Its large enough to hold all my clothes that I use for deer hunting plus pack and boots. The ozone unit was mounted in the lid. I placed my Muck Arctic Pros which stunk to high heaven in the bin after they sat for a night on a boot dryer (normal procedure for me). Half hour "soak" and I could still smell my foot funk but only slightly. It was reduced enough that I encouraged my wife to take a smell. She is unbiased and know what my feet smell like, so I couldn't convince her to take a full on whiff of the boots before. She could smell my odor but also noted it was greatly reduced. After an hour total I could not smell any foot odor. But after 5 min of being in fresh air the foot odor was back but only ever so slightly. I then placed my boots in the bin, alone over night. The next morning I shut off the unit and left the boots alone while I was at school. I came home and smelled the boots later in the day and there was no odor. I will note that even though the unit was off for 8 + hours I still smelled ozone in the bin. I left the boots out and I smelled them every now and then. No smell. After a full day of sitting out they still had no human detectable odor to them anymore.
My conclusion on the boots:
I was impressed enough to "wash" my clothes in the ozone. It seemed to have worked to eliminate odors in my clothes as well. In between hunts or over night I plug my unit into my truck and leave my clothes out to "wash" in there. Sometimes I just toss the unit into my boots for a bit. I believe that it kills odor enough that I am going to build a small closet in a closet and mount a home ozone unit in there to be able to wash a bulk amount of clothes at once.
I also think that MAYBE a unit can help in a ground blind but I don't see how it will work in a treestand. Also this is not something that will fool a deers nose like many advertisements say. Its certainly another tool in the toolbox of hunters but if you want to fool a deer play the wind.

link to my generator. Not the best unit and there are others that put out more ozone per minute/hour but it was a cheap thing to try.

Put some lube on it. Any type will do; I use Hoppe's #9 mostly because I like the applicator tip on the bottle.
Even WD-40 will do in a pinch, though it's discouraged since it will get dirty quickly. Whatever you end up using, just put a drop on each side of each pivot then swing the handles back and forth a bit to work it in there. You could put a drop on the latch too if that's squeaking.
