For 1-1.5k you're better off building it and saving a lot of that.

NOTE: everything under here is my opinion, but I used to build these at a very well known shop and have gather some experience over the years.

Basically Google a simple forged upper and lower receiver. Or go to a local shop they may have lowers so you don't have to go through the ffl crap of mailing it.

Once you have the upper and lower look at the kind of barrel you want. I would suggest personally that you spend most of your money on a barrel and optic. So look into some companies that make a good barrel like white oak and compass lake engineering. The reason not to buy one from a company that makes other stuff is that they get really cheap barrel blanks, then flute it, add a nice finish and a muzzle break and sell it for $300 or a little less. After all that crap you realize they started with a $100 barrel blank and you paid all that extra for nothing. So get a heavy contour 1:8 or 1:7 Criterion chrome lined, or steel if you'd like. This is where your accuracy is and its best not to cheap out here. Especially if you want a DMR style rifle. No less than 18" I would suggest, 20" is also really nice for that extra FPS. Rifle length gas system. And get a low profile gas block with it and have it threaded if you want to put a muzzle break on it.

Muzzle device choice is wide. I like the M4-72 severe duty compensator. I've got one now and it's SICK. That or a J-Comp. I wouldn't entertain any other muzzle devices. I suggest the J-comp because it's cheap and really does work. The M4-72 isn't cheap but is the best one on the market hands down.

After the barrel look at a nice optic, a good budget one is vortex strike eagle 1-6x or an SWFA 1-4x. Both $400 or less. I like the SWFA personally because it uses mil dot reticle and turrets. If you can find a mil dot and turret from vortex then that's even better, their warranty from what I hear is amazeballz.

Next you should look at furniture, this is purely subjective to your whims. But note if you get a collapsible stock you need a carbine buffer tube and carbine buffer spring and make sure it says mil-spec for the buffer tube. I like DD stock and pistol grip, it feels quite nice, but there's a million options and they all fit. Magpul makes nice stuff and some of it is reasonably priced as well.

Next you'll need a handguard. This you don't need to spend a ton of money on, just one that looks nice. Geissele makes a nice hand-guard they are light and strong but it's on the slightly higher price end. They all work, and they all function just fine so get what you think you'll like. Don't go crazy with the quad rails (they look cool but) because they're rough on hands, heavy as hell, and expensive if you want to fill all the unused space with the grips that smooth it out you'll get sick of it quick. M-lok and keymod are the two big attachment systems. I like mlok as it seems to have more variety in parts and is smoother. Key mod works just fine as well.
They all have barrel nuts that come with them usually. Don't get the cheapest handguard because you might get a cheap barrel nut. Most you will find are free floating so you don't have to worry about that.

The last two pieces are parts kits. I just get the regular phosphate "parkerizer" coating bolt carriers and what not. You don't have to spend tons of fancy bolt carriers and shit.

Part of the lower Parts kit is the trigger, you have a big budget so you can definitely buy a nice trigger, but honestly you don't have to. I've been shooting a long time and I've never felt I missed a shot because of my trigger. The mil-spec trigger works great and if you ever did need to use it for self defense you won't be wishing you had a fancy trigger, you'll just be glad you had a trigger that works. You don't notice triggers when you're getting shot at, you can barely move your fingers well enough to reload so it's really not that important a lot of vets might tell you about how they've thrown a magazine into their friends face cuz it flew out of their hands. That being said if you want a nice trigger I like the Milazzo-Krieger MK-II trigger. It's about $225 but it's really nice. Lots of ppl will suggest the geissele SSAE or whatever it's called. They're about the same price but the milazzo-Krieger is much nicer. I've used it a lot but I can't force myself to pay that much for a trigger. But if I ever do that'd be the one I get.

Last lower parts kit piece you'll want is an extended charging handle. The reason you want an extended charging handle is because when you have an optic on your rifle, it can be hard to grab. Strike industries has a cool looking one that's double sided for $35ish. Quite nice and I'm thinking of picking one up after using my friends. Or get a regular mil spec charging handle with an extended latch for much cheaper.

That's about all for the rifle itself.

Magazines are an easy choice, PMAG. Or surplus STANAG or "g.i. Mags" they're the basic aluminum magazine I've got like 15 of them over the years by tactically acquiring them from the army.

BUIS or Back-Up Iron Sights aren't really necessary. But many recommend the MAGPUL MBUS Pros. They are metal and can definitely take some abuse. I doubt you're going to war so it's basically wasted money.

Yo may also need sling mount attachments to go on your handguard. Most buttstocks come with a swivel push button mount already. Magpul Industries Sling Attachment Fits M-LOK https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ORY7TO0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_R9lZxbP1NC3E8
Something like that would work for an M-Lok.

So I also do a lot of walk-in hunts and I have a dedicated blind bag that I really like. Its totally waterproof with a hard bottom, plenty of pockets, and spacious for fitting multiple thermoses of midnight black coffee. But, its a little cumbersome on longer walks. I also use this backpack- it is about 100x more comfy than cheaper mesh decoy bags and the shotgun sleeve is awesome- I can go hands free easily. Its big enough to fit at least 2 dozen decoys and my waders. I have 2 of them- when I hunt with a buddy or 2, we'll each have a pack and divide the load so an otherwise long slog turns into a stroll. Its only drawback is that it is huge and has a mesh bottom (so water drains out when you fill it with wet decoys), so it won't really protect calls, shellboxes, or other things you might bring.

I have a Jet Sled that is super useful for hauling decoys and heavy stuff- we use this a lot.

I also like this backpack- its basically a heavy duty dry bag with backpack straps and some extra pockets sewn on. Its a great gear bag that is easy to carry and/or throw in the boat- very versatile. Its big enough to hold all "blind bag" stuff you could possibly need and it will stay dry. The exterior straps make good tie-down points for other gear too. It's pretty simple, but it works well.

I have the Mojo backpack as well and its great for storing and hauling mojos, since it has a bunch of purpose built pockets for the batteries, wings, stakes, and bodies. It will easily hold 3 mini mojos and all their accessories. But its a pretty specific pack, so we use it if we're taking mojos somewhere, but otherwise it just holds mojo gear for storage in the shop.

search this question on firearms or ccw. Its been well covered there.

quick answer though:

bulk FMJ for range/target practice. Brand isn't that important. Winchester white box, cci blazer brass, seller and belloit, remington, pmc, Speer lawman, ANY of those brands should be absolutely fine. SOME people like one brand over another in terms of the ammo being "dirtier" (as in, how much carbon residue does it create and thus, how much work will it be cleaning your gun later)

But general shootability, just pick whichever one of those you find a good price on.

Defensive ammo: You want hollow points. They do a better job of stopping the bad guy. They do a better job of NOT overpenetrating, going through the bad guy, and harming other things behind the bad guy.

Top recommended hollow point defensive choices are usually: Federal HST, Hornady Critical Defense, Speer Gold Dot. There are others that are probably fine too, but those three are probably the most recommended. Good chance, whatever police dept near you probably uses one of those three.

DON'Ts:

Do NOT bother with gimmicky high tech, superlight (50 grain) ammo with names like "RIP" or whatever. Its all hype.

Do NOT buy ammunition AT the shooting range, if you can at all help it. Shooting ranges typically have a crazy price markup on their ammo.

DOs:

Do buy your (target) ammo in bulk if you can. 500-100 rounds at a time is where you start to notice the savings.

Do use luckygunner, brickseek, r/gundeals. luckygunner is more of an ammo sales site, while brickseek is an indexer that shows you what current ammo prices are at other retailers.

----------------------------------

Non, ammo related things:

Cleaning: You don't need a lot. A good cleaning solvent, a lube, OR an all in one cleaner/lube combo (rem oil, clp, etc). A brush, a few gun q-tips, a bore snake , some rags or cloths (I like blue shop towels actually) and you're good. You can probably get a decent all in one kit off amazon for <$20. Also recommend a good cleaning mat You don't NEED the mat, but its convenient, keeps oil and scratches off your floor/table, and its like $10, why not? You also don't NEED the gun brand specific mat with YOUR gun diagram on it, but ... come on. Isn't it just a little cooler with it? Yeah, yeah it is.

As cleaning goes, this isn't military inspection. You don't need to scrub her spotless after every shoot. Just mostly wipe it down, get the noticeable carbon build up off, make sure the slide cycles smoothly, and IF anything internal is supposed to be factory shiny, make it shiny again. (specifically, it the feed ramp looks shiny )

Other than that...

Go shoot. A lot. A LOT

And ask questions.

Shooting is just like anything else. Practice a lot and ask for advice is how you get good.

Found an old Ping Anser 3 at a thrift shop for $2.49. So why not!

Materials used:

20 oz Coke $1.75

Pack of assorted wet/dry sandpaper $8 All the grits are packed together, so the sheets all need rinsing before use.

3M scrubby dremel tips. Used a couple of these for hard-to-get areas, but the sandpaper worked much better for the large surfaces.

Brass Black $8

First step was to see how it was under 30+ years of oxidation. 24 hour soak in coke, then hit with a scrubby.

Next came the sanding. LOTS of sanding.

Started with 220, so I didn't take off too much material, and moved up from there - 400/800/1000/1500/2000. A good rinse and dry with an old t-shirt between each grit keeps from scratching up all the hard work.

I was going to go up to 3000 grit, but couldn't keep from scratching it up after 2000. Yeah, I could have buffed it to a mirror shine, but that had a good chance of softening all the edges. I didn't want a 'blobby' putter.

A bit of acetone on a q-tip removed the old sight line.

Next step was an alcohol bath. 99% isopropyl because that's what I had lying around. A hot water rinse and a good shake dry followed.

Into a ziplock bag it went with some of the Brass Black. Squished it around to get even coverage. Rinsed, dried, and left for 24 hours. Then repeat.

In reality, the next step was to sit the putter on my desk and forget to send it back to Ping. But we're gonna skip that step here.

The putter was shipped back to Ping on a Friday. The rep who called was super cool, and said it wouldn't take to long to put a new shaft and grip on and ship it back. Total cost about $61.

This putter is awesome. First round with it and I scored my lowest ever with an 82* (Par 64 course, so it's only bogey golf. But still lowest score for 18!)

Cheers

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/guns

I'd buy:

Breakfree CLP syringe

Larger bottle of breakfre

Boresnake

Those and a box of q-tips plus a toothbrush and maybe some rags make a great cleaning kit. For a light, you'll want to get a streamlight tlr-1 or tlr-3, but they are both closer to $100. You might also want to get a little safe for her, a mini gunvault would work well. And ammo... must have the ammo!

You might also want a range bag to keep your hearing/eye protection, ammo, and pistol in.

Gunmate bag

And sometimes I find that muff aren't enough which I saw you bought. I like to wear these sometimes by themselves or under muffs.

Peltor ear plugs

I take out the yellow end and they make really nice, compact, and effective hearing protection. And they're reusable of course.

u/A_Plinkers_Damn · 4 pointsr/reloading

Here's a (very) rough guide:

  • Start with the FAQ. It'll help you find answers to 90% of the questions you'll have.
  • Move on to Youtube. It has plenty of reloading info to help you make decisions.

    Now, spend some money by:

  • Getting a good manual. The standard is Lyman, but I honestly prefer Lee's. Read the first third or so of whichever one you get a few times. That'll give you an in-depth review.

Once you've got all that down:

  • Decide on how you want to start/what your budget is. Go back to the FAQ and start figuring out what you can/want to afford.

  • Order your gear.

  • Get your consumables. Do not buy a bunch of powder/primers/bullets until you've had a chance to figure out what your gun(s) like. Once you do... THEN buy in bulk.

  • Build your bullets.

  • Shoot your first reloaded round with one finger and flinching away from the gun. (Everyone does it.)

  • Don't save any money at all, because reloading just means you shoot more.

Also, for a K11, you'll be best served by buying some cheap PPU ammo and reloading it instead of buying fresh brass. It'll let you get used to the rifle AND save you the cost of brass.

    Have fun!

I'd recommend spending the money on a set of Grace USA punches. Bought mine from Amazon and I absolutely love them. I bought these. I also bought this set of Grace roll spring holders. Very useful for starting roll pins. A decent hammer (I have a dedicated brass mallet and a dedicated nylon mallet), and a [bench block]https://www.amazon.com/Wheeler-60981-Universal-Bench-Block/dp/B0047WKF84) if you like things to be easy.

I also have a needle file set (don't remember the brand, but they were like $20 for 6-8 of them). For sanding on the internals I generally just use wet/dry sandpaper. Usually start with around 200-grit, and end with 800-grit. For polishing, Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish and a white t-shirt. With enough time, it will give a nice mirror finish and be as smooth as ice.

u/cold-hard-beast · 1 pointr/guns

Ballistol is great, here is what I use:

  1. Black nitrile gloves

  2. Steel mixing bowl

  3. Gunslick Ultra Klenz
  4. .40 Brass Jag in your caliber

  5. Handgun cleaning rod

  6. Patches in your caliber

  7. CR-10 Bore Cleaner, for removing copper reisdue, use it inside the barrel only

  8. Outers Crud Crutter

  9. Gunslick graphite grease

  10. Ballistol Lubricant

I use them pretty much in that order. If I could buy only 1 thing from the list, it would be the nitrile gloves. All the gun cleaning solvents are super toxic, nitrile is better than latex for solvents. Latex won't stop some solvents. Ballistol is the second best thing, then Gunslick Ultra Klenz is my next favorite. The Outer's Crud Crutter removes all of the above solvents, I use it when I'm done cleaning with Ultra Klenz and CR-10 because it removes the solvents and dries leaving the gun bone dry. Then I apply a drop of grease at friction points and give it an all over polishing with Ballistol.

Gathered/assembled most of the parts for my long(er) range build. Parts list below. I'm leaning towards the Primary Arms FFP 4-14x based upon all of the reviews I have seen. Can someone convince me otherwise? I like the SWFA fixed magnification options for their quality and price, but I think I want something with variable magnification. As you can see from my other projects, I've never dropped serious money on optics (Bushnell TRS-25 & Bushnell 1-4x), so I'd love to stay in the sub $400 price range for a scope. Will be shooting at <500 yards, but would like some good/appropriate magnification. I know I could probably get away with a 3-9x, but I would love a little more power than that.

Parts List:

  • DSA AR15/ZM4 A2 stock recoil buffer
  • DSA AR15/ZM4 standard rifle length recoil spring
  • DSA AR15/ZM4 alloy charging handle assembly complete w/latch
  • DSA AR15/ZM4 standard rifle length receiver extension
  • ALG 15" M-LOK Ergonomic Modular Rail
  • AIM AR/M16 .223/5.56 9310 MPI BDG Bolt Carrier Group
  • Faxon 18" 5.56/.223 Caliber Nitride 4150 CMV Steel AR Barrel
  • Amazon Model 4/15 .223 1/2x28 Competition Short Break
  • Anderson Stripped A3 Upper Receiver
  • Magpul MOE Rifle Stock – Black MAG404-BLK
  • PSA AR15 Forward Assist Assembly
  • PSA AR15 Ejection Port Cover Assembly

    Parts on the way:

  • PSA MOE ACT LPK

  • Magpul M-LOK Bipod Mount

  • Harris 6"-9" Bipod

    Need to buy:

  • Lower (thanks Shooter123456)

u/Flowers_for_Taco · 1 pointr/JeepGladiator

For my truck (not a gladiator... yet) I invested in some relatively heavy duty cargo boxes and cable locks. Here is one example on amazon of the boxes (they were relatively cheap, solid, and waterproof). Here is an example of the cable locks. Obviously this isn't gladiator-specific, but it's been a great solution for us. It's not as secure as say locking your truck (or locking a hard tonneau cover), but it would take some effort and tools to get in. It's also a bit more effort compared to just throwing stuff in a capper or the back of an SUV, but not that bad, especially if it's only for trips etc. Not sure if this would be an option for you or not, but we've been happy with the setup. We load a ton of suitcases, travel gear, etc, into the boxes and then stack them up in the bed and it's worked for us.

u/FlyingFoxofDeath · 3 pointsr/SKS

Not sure if we are allowed to post links here but it’s the UTG clamp on (barrel mounted) bipod.

https://www.amazon.com/UTG-Clamp-Bipod-Steel-Feet/dp/B017DB25AQ

I haven’t used it in any sort of harsh environments, but it seems solid, holds on the barrel pretty well with basically no play/wiggle.
Adjustability is good, and it folds back up with ease. However it does add a lot of weight to the front of the barrel/overall weight so I wouldn’t consider it extremely practical for going inawoods. But for casual range shooting it works great for me.

u/RugerRedhawk · 3 pointsr/CCW

Awesome little gift, I love these:

http://www.amazon.com/TekMat-11-Inch-17-Inch-Handgun-Cleaning/dp/B0046C5NVE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1450460587&sr=8-1&keywords=cleaning+mat+shield

Also as others suggested a proper gun belt. The type of thing he might put off buying for himself, but would definitely make carrying much more comfortable. See the sticky on the sidebar.

u/armadda1 · 2 pointsr/CCW

I am not a lawyer and cannot give legal advise.

Personally if it was me, I imagine something like this would work, so long as it's bolted to studs or something impossible to break/carry out:

https://www.amazon.com/Hornady-98180-RAPiD-Shotgun-Touch/dp/B01N4T4LSU

Might also be worth looking into concealed carry insurance. Several plans cover you and loved ones in your home, and are quite affordable. Even if you don't intend to carry out of the home, they can still be valuable. A perfectly justifiable shoot could cost you thousands if the person you shot has litigiously inclined family.

u/thingandstuff · 1 pointr/guns

I would also be concerned about heat issues with that light.

The AL body is fine sure, and the PCB and LED are probably OK to a point, but I'm not sure of the operating temperature of those batteries.

Get the light mount kit from Magpul and place it at 9'oclock on the MOE handguard. It works perfectly there and can easily be toggled by your thumb.

u/OldRemington · 3 pointsr/guns

Many optics (scopes and red-dots) come from the same factory in China, then given all sorts of different labels and brand names.

I laugh when someone pays $150 for a Chinese red-dot whose American seller gives a "life time replacement" while another American company sells them for $30 with no warranty.

Edit:

Here's 7 of the same red dot sight, coming from the same factory (they won't tell you this), and getting different brand names and different prices

  • NcSTAR $32.95

  • UAG Tactical $34.95

  • Browning $47.18

  • Sightmark $49.00

  • BARSKA $69.91

  • BSA Optics $79.45

  • Konus $111.02

Edit 2: OP, if you're looking for a decent optic at an affordable price, look at the SFWA Super Sniper. Lame name, outstanding product. There are a few for $300.

It sounds like a lot to the novice shooter, but when it comes to glass, you really get what you pay for. If you have to put something on your rifle right now, so you can take it to the range ASAP, PLEASE do not spend more than $100 for the "cheaper" brand optic. You will thank me later when you're replacing your $75 Chinese scope instead of replacing your $250 Chinese scope.

Learn from someone that has already made the mistake.

Edit 3: Just looked up the CZ455 and saw that it's a rimfire bolt action. You'd probably be safe with a Chinese scope, but definitely shop around for the cheapest one. There's no reason to spend $250 on a "name brand" scope when the same model from the same factory costs $100 from a different, lesser known brand.

I've had this one for about 6 months and it is definitely the best I've ever used: https://www.amazon.com/Caldwell-G2-Ballistic-Precision-Chronograph/dp/B01B7OYNJG

Only chrony I've ever got to read a BB reliably and works with any lights in any setting (even indoors with a fluorescent lights and outdoors in completely pitch black. I tried the other methods such as various vice grips with electrical tape, and I still ended up scratching the shit out of my lower. This time around I bought some decent roll pin punches off amazon here and here.

Its much better having the correct tools in my opinion. Plus the ones I linked are from a company called Grace, made in the USA (Michigan)

Also, the factory cargo-cover works really well.

I just looked it up and the shotgun field for you would be $26, and $24 for your son, and then the throwing machine is $35 per hour. I'd recommend getting a cheap hand thrower or something like this before paying that much though.

Here are the rates and hours.

u/promodvette · 8 pointsr/Glocks

I use this rod https://www.amazon.com/Gunslick-Handgun-Carbon-Fiber-Cleaning/dp/B001NOVF92

and just some generic bronze brushes like this https://www.amazon.com/Gunslick-Bore-Cleaning-Brush/dp/B004NJC1ME/ref=pd_lpo_200_lp_tr_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=2PA7VYF9QHZ5KMSS97E3&th=1&psc=1

and use this to send a few pieces of cloth through until they come out clean https://www.amazon.com/Gunslick-Brass-Benchrest-Handgun-Caliber/dp/B004NJDG14/ref=pd_sim_200_4?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B004NJDG14&pd_rd_r=9TTKD0XDXN2KSBS2TNRK&pd_rd_w=K2pUv&pd_rd_wg=CIoxr&psc=1&refRID=9TTKD0XDXN2KSBS2TNRK

Basically I just clean the bore after 1000 or so rounds and use a toothpick/cloth to clean the slide channels and lightly oil them. I use M7Pro cleaning stuff and oil just because I can find it at most stores around here and it doesn't smell or irritate my skin. There really is no sense in pulling the trigger and all that stuff out unless it starts sticking or you have run 5k or 10k rounds through it.

Just to cover everything these are the cloth pieces i use too https://www.amazon.com/Professionals-Choice-Cleaning-800-Pack-357-Calibre/dp/B00KJLTONO/ref=sr_1_5?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1484333214&sr=1-5&keywords=gun+cleaning+patches

I think Im going to go that route, like you said if the stuff is out already then why not just get it done with.

I bought the stuff below to supplement my cleaning kit so I can handle rifles, I love my carbon fiber cleaning rod for my handguns so I ordered one for the AR. Do I really need the BCG tool? Ive been using Gunzilla but decided to move over to MPro7 is that a good idea for the AR, it seems most use CLP instead of separate solvent and oil but I do see some who go that way too. These shotgun shell holders work great. The clear one goes on sale for $4 sometimes, or if you have a Cabela's near you, grab it in store for $4.

There are probably better ones out there, but I use it for everything from my .22 to my M1 Garand.

Edit: Forgot to add: it's more expensive and harder to store than a sectioned rod, but with care it will last as long as your firearms do.

u/cvpigunguy · 2 pointsr/airsoft

Also throwing a barrel mounted bipod on it is awesome if you're going to be playing a marksmen role. And be sure to use the lift up butt plate to keep it on your shoulder better haha. Dont know if that's what it was designed for, but it's how I used it

u/djyp · 2 pointsr/Nerf

I've used many different chronograph and this is my favorite. I know it's not cheap but when you consider it comes with everything you'll ever need, integrated it's a decent value in my mind especially if you can find a deal used through Amazon.

I got this one for $25 off of Amazon and it works great!

Typically you would subject the metal to an anodizing or black oxide process but I’m afraid brass/copper materials do not take to those processes well.

Brass can be antiqued by using vinegar and ammonia and there are some over the counter alternatives. I would suggest starting here. But I don’t know how this would hold up on something like a ring that will be subject to constant touching.

It's the only one on Amazon so sure it's what you were looking at, I don't know how the utg one is but the Magpul doesn't stick out far at all and is rck solid... I also trust Magpul a whole lot more than utg.

Best bet would be to check eBay for a Primary Arms red dot if you have a Picatinny rail. You can sometimes find their micro red dots for ~$50 on eBay in used condition. This particular Browning red dot is for Weaver rails (will work with Picatinny, Picatinny won't work with Weaver rails though).

You should buy a Bore Snake and run it through the barrel a couple of times at the range when you are done shooting. If you don't clean the gun after you have at least removed much of the fouling. If you do clean the gun you've made the job easier by removing fouling while the barrel is still warm.

Hornady 98180 RAPiD Safe Shotgun Wall Lock with RFID Touch Free Entry https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4T4LSU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_OwqyCb3A21E83

It's a clamshell case that bolts to the wall. To keep the gun from being pulled out the side, there's a protrusion that fits into an open bolt. Once the safe is open, the shotgun practically falls into my hands.

I really like it, but it doesn't allow chambered storage. It requires open bolt storage.

Both the Titan and the 95 are great guns and are the guns I generally suggest to anyone looking at a $150 air rifle. The Titan is lighter and quieter, and the 95 has a nicer trigger. The scopes that come with both are complete rubbish.

The other rifle I would suggest in your price ranges is the Beeman RS2. I think walmart sells it as the Grizzly now...it'll be the two barrel combo. There's a synthetic stock version that's a little lighter and less hurtful to your ego when it gets dinged. Either way, though, it's a loud and heavy gun (heavier than the Titan or 95), and simply bigger. But it's got a very nice trigger, it is a solid tack driver, and dead reliable. The benefit here is that for $100 it leaves enough of your budget left over to get a decent scope.

If you and he mean, take individual, store-bought components, (Bullets, cases, primers and powder) and assemble them yourself, yes, that is called Reloading or sometimes Handloading. There are many reference books, mainly referred to as Reloading Manuals. The Lyman 50th Edition covers the process, is invaluable to the novice as well as experienced reloader. There is also a faq on the /r/reloading subreddit to describe introduction equipment, materials, sources etc etc.

Beautiful build. Not sure if you're looking for suggestions, but if you are, I'd suggest taking a look at one of these. I was dong the same with an m-lok -> Picatinny rail -> bipod adapter ->bipod, and one of these things really clears it up and makes the bipod fit more flush onto the rail itself and it just looked "cleaner".

How's she shoot?

u/TubeMeister · 1 pointr/1022

Here are a few options that should fit the M-LOK slots at the front end of the rifle depending on what type of sling you are using:

QD

USGI

Standard Swivel (sold here as a bipod mount, but it should still allow sling attachement)

u/Warbeetle · 1 pointr/ar15

Do you want the stud for a bipod? That looks like M-lok

There are cloth cleaning patches for firearms. The procedure would be to assemble a cleaning rod, cut the patch to the appropriate size, fix the patch to the rod and swab out the barrel (usually disassembled and removed from the firearm) after spraying some cleaner through it. If the patch comes out especially dirty, you cut a new patch and repeat until its clean. The process can be a bit labor intensive if the gun is old or frequently used, or if the gun has a large bore and requires a lot of swabbing.

A tampon can be inserted into the firearm's barrel and pushed through with the rod a few times to the same effect. There are products called 'bore snakes' that do the same thing and are reusable. It's a bit quicker, but maybe not as thorough. I'll use this method if I feel like I don't have the time to dedicate to cleaning, or I have a lot of cleaning to do. It's not as cost effective either, but the difference is a matter of pennies since I bought pharmacy brands that made it to the clearance bin. Sure, my romantic interest at the time had a small complaint about how uncomfortable they were compared to her brand, but they're for me.

u/PensOrPurses · 3 pointsr/fountainpens

I use shotshell cases for sample vials. You can find them at Cabela's on sale for like $3/box sometimes. 12-20 gauge will fit a 5ml sample vial perfectly.

I also have this fancy metal curved vial holder thing that I use. I don't remember where I got it from but it was around $18 or so.

u/darkbug · 1 pointr/ar15

Looks like amazon sells it.

u/curzyk · 1 pointr/guns

Your list is fairly complete to me. Here are a few thoughts:

  • You might consider adding ear plugs under the ear muffs, especially if you go to an indoor range.

  • A bore snake, or similar tool, is very useful for quickly cleaning the barrel.

  • If you plan to do any dry fire practice, you'll need snap caps.

  • Otherwise, consider possible training classes?

  • Eventually you'll want additional magazines.

I got a cheap clay thrower from Amazon: tug the string, then shoot.

I wish I'd bought one of the foot-pedal ones though.

>I went to the Alliant site to look up the recipes, and it only gives me data for Speer bullets. Can I just use the recipe for the 115gr Speers, but use Rainier?

Do you have a reloading manual? If not, stop. Buy a reloading manual and read the introduction(s) and information in it.

I would suggest the Lyman 50th to start.

i got the gunslick rod and it's fantastic. the cheapo plastic rod you get with the gun is ok in a pinch but not very comfortable long-term.

edit: also got gunslick jags (which last forever) & brushes, which need replacing every so often. threading on the rod is standard and i tried others but gunslick seem to last longer.

Should pulling a bore snake through the barrel be difficult? I have a Ruger LCP Custom (.380) and purchased the pistol .380 bore snake and it took all of the strength I had to pull it through the barrel when I was cleaning it.

u/frito123 · 1 pointr/reloading

I've used that press. It works fine. It has the advantage that it is portable and you can use it anywhere. That die set works as well. The fact that you list hollow point bullets implies you intend to use the loaded rounds for defensive purposes. Many reloaders shy away from making their own defensive rounds due to the small chance a district attorney may feel it is a sign of premeditation. That's a personal decision. The ones you picked will work. The Winchester primers you picked work fine. Unique is a common powder, but I don't remember the size scoop that comes with the die. The die set comes with some reloading data and will tell you a list of powders.

What you've listed is enough to get you started. Eventually you'll want to add a powder measure. This one would do the trick. Eventually you'll want a reloading manual like this one.
