Hi. I sell to over 60 WFMs in the SoPac region and Midwest Region. We just found out we were accepted to the NorCal region and waiting to hear back about 3 other regions.

Very awesome that they found you and want to meet with you. This what happened to me in the Midwest region. You just overcame the very first hurdle without doing anything. The buyer has already tried your product, most likely and wants it on their shelf. I take it, it was a WFM local to you. You will be able to participate in their local vendor program which is awesome.

Lots of great advice in this thread. I am going to offer some additional about what you need to have to be accepted, what to expect as a local vendor and how to expand into more Whole Foods.

Your product needs to have a UPC, product insurance, and compliant labeling. You will need to provide proof of auto-insurance too. You will be asked to put all of this into your application. I am in body care so I cannot expound too much further about anything additional that food might require. Food license is a given. Ask for a copy of the application at your meeting and talk requirements. If you PM me I can send you a copy of a local vendor app. Each region's is different but it will give you a good idea what to expect. Also if you have UPC questions, see my comment history.

The app process is long and the initial buyer that brings you into Whole Foods has to fill out a ton of paperwork as well. Make sure you understand all the instructions and be prepared to wait. We started in Oct and finally were on store shelves in late Feb for our local region. So don't freak out because they will not be expecting an order for at least 3 months from the time you turn in your application, which you cannot do until you meet all the requirements. So you got time and the local vendor program will accept new products at any time.

Whole Foods buyers are very nice and if they are inviting you into a meeting they will be vey accommodating and understanding. So use this time to ask questions. Don't be shy and afraid that they will reject you if something isn't compliant yet. They want you and this meeting is talk about how to get your product ready for their store shelf. They are aware your product might not be ready for the store shelf so openly discuss all the various requirements and how you currently meet or do not meet them. If you have a solution in place, great let them know. If you do not, ask them if they have any advice. They will be glad to help you.

Once you are accepted to the local vendor program here are some things to expect and how you can build a great relationship with them. Be prepared to comp part of their first order. It is called a free-fill. Under the local vendor program it is completely optional but it helps get into new stores and builds good will. Expect to comp 6 items of each sku.

Always say yes to the buyer. If they ask you to participate in events, say yes and be prepared to give away samples. Schedule demos and sample your items. Buyers love companies that actively support their product in-store. Make sure the entire department team has tried your product. They will be likely to recommend it to their guests if they enjoy your product. Educate everyone on the bullet points of your product as they will draw on that information when helping their guests. Spend money on supporting your product as it will increase your sales and build goodwill.

When you demo. Be on time. Sounds simple but every event there are late vendors. Have your own demo table. Again sounds simple but so many do not have one and the buyer has to spend time accommodating you. For your demo table, I can highly recommend the GoPong ( http://www.amazon.com/GoPong-Portable-Includes-Skirts-Carrying/dp/B005DD6ZIU ). I tested one and then kitted out my demo team with them. Other vendors always ask where we got it. Make sure you ask where it is ok to park. At one of our stores, we are not allowed to park in the parking lot. Be sure to demo/sample only your products that are sold in their store. Do not bring a different variety of the same product either. Sounds simple but people have lost shelf space for doing that (at least that is what one buyer told me).

You will be placed in a set number of stores to start. It might just be one or a few more. They will not let you expand to other ones for a period of time. Use this time to learn the way that WF does things. However, do ask your local Forager when you will be able to approach other stores. The regional office needs to approve it and then each store needs to get permission from regional to start buying your product. I asked as soon as I was accepted and they said wait 30 days and ask again.

When dropping off your product, make sure your know the hours that they receive incoming goods. Each store is different. Have two copies of your invoice. You invoices will be net 30. WFM issues payments via ETF on day 27-29 without fail. I love them for this.

You will be confined to your city and nearby cities in your local when they allow you to expand from your initial set of stores. Ask the buyer that you have the best relationship with to recommend another location that they think will be a good fit for your product. Buyers talk, buyers visit other stores to look for new products and buyers attend other store events. Each store has their own buyers and you must convince them to bring you into their store. The buyer that brought us into our first Whole Foods talked us up to a few other buyers and give us their contact info. Ask permission to use them as a reference when contacting other buyers. Chances are the buyer will already be aware of you and your reputation. This is why you always say yes and be accommodating.

After the first expansion wave, you can get permission to contact stores in other states that are part of your region. Once you are able to, you can simply call those stores and ask to speak to a buyer in order to get the ball rolling. Be sure to straight away state that you are already a WF local vendor and want to get them samples to test. This is how we expanded in the Midwest. We went from 1 to 25+ stores in 9 months.

Once you have dominated your local region, it is time to start thinking about getting your product into other regions. Each region reviews a product category once per year. They either have their own submission calendar or follow the Global one. You can search google for that. You will be able to see when your product category is reviewed so that you can make a very informed decision about expanding to more stores. Applying to other regions is much different than applying to the local region and requires its own essay. We actually applied to the SoPac before our local region which is a whole different story.

I have moved countries 4 times now. What I usually do is sell off as much as I can to have money to buy the basics in a new country/state.

Like that I save on cost of transporting furniture and so on and instead invest that into things like a sofa bed and table, kitchen stuff.

It’s not easy but it avoids unnecessary costs.

Basics I try to buy fast are:
Sofa bed or a good air mattress (Amazon has pretty good ones for under $100, I have this one air mattress ) - if you can buy a sofa bed as it doubles way better as sofa to sit on during the day sofa ikea has good options sofa bed
Foldable table (again amazon, they are height adjustable and I can use them as table to prep food, dinner table and couch table , I usually buy 2) table

Most apartments in the US come with walk-in closets so that’s a great plus if not you can get pretty cheap roller wardrobes. A friend of mine has this wardrobe

It’s not much but it helps for the first few months and then over time when you have more money you start buying things like a proper bed, desk and so on.

I always prioritize kitchen appliances as I love cooking and will move the better ones I have but then buy cheap plates and so on.

I bought my first LED dryer about a month ago from Amazon after years of going to a salon. Best financial decision I ever made. It was $21.99 and prime eligible so shipping was 2 days. In my experience, the biggest difference between UV and LED (other than price) is the dry time. UV is about 30 seconds to a minute while LED is usually two to three minutes. For me, both are much better than the dry times of your average lacquer. LED used to be the standard for gel. Now, the industry is largely switching to UV, however, most soak off cured gel polishes will work with either. Check the polish details to be sure, but don't fret too much.

Edit: u/misslion has a fantastic idea. Pick out one you like and maybe one you think she'll like (based on colors she wears a lot).

Also, some things to consider:

Does she have a nice, well-lit space to work in? If not, consider a cheap lamp and TV tray type thing. I don't like bright lighting so my house largely consists of 40w bulbs. Buying a lamp to use at my "battle station" to see fine detailing was a huge improvement. My coffee table sits pretty low but my TV is hung over the fireplace. A TV tray allowed me to watch TV and do my nails in a more comfortable position.

Assuming you want to avoid adult oriented things - and thing that may be considered shady.

I am also assuming your computer is a laptop or relatively mobile.

My suggesting involves a form of selling. First you must pick a subject that you know very well and then think about questions and answers a novice would have.

For example, I know computers/Internet well. Things a novice might ask are:

1. How can I set up my gmail/yahoo mail/outlook account so it checks mail in other accounts?
   
2. How can I set up my gmail/yahoo mail/outlook so that email certain emails are automatically deleted?
   
3. How can I see what programs are using the most memory on my computer
   
4. How do I backup my computer?
   
5. How can remotely view my home computer desktop from my iPhone?
   
6. Etc. etc.
   
   Come up with a nice long list of questions and solutions. The idea provide quick/succinct computer advice.
   
   Buy a folding table, folding chair, poster boards, markers, and cookie jar.

   Pack the computer, table, signs and jar into your car and find a spot with high foot traffic. This could be a downtown street, near public transportation, entrance to your neighborhood, community function (street fair, swap meet), the beach, etc.
   
   Once you pick your spot, setup shop. Unfold the table, chair and put up your posters. Get the jar out, take off the top and affix a piece of paper that kindly asks for donations. Be ready to demonstrate you solutions on your computer.
   
   Here is what will happen:
   
   First, because you are offering the services for free, people will be more inclined to visit your booth.
   
   Second, everyone has a computer and therefore the topic is familiar. You will have people come by that know their answers and want to see yours. You will have people that are genuinely ignorant about a topic that you can help. You will also have know-it-alls that quiz and grill you.
   
   The trick is to be a good salesperson. You are offering good advice, for free, but without warranty. "This works for me, it should work for you, but I can't 100% guarantee". If you have a great demeanor, people will appreciate the novel advice and provide you a donation you.

In theory you could brace the legs together with a piece of stock metal, maybe brace at the bottom too, but at the end of the day those legs aren’t very beefy. What are you looking to do with this table though? If you need something very solid this probably isn’t the best choice.

I use my s7 edge to take photos. The key to getting crisp white photos on your phone is to set the white balance to match your bulbs(5500k) and raise/lower the saturation slightly depending on the how dark/light the item you are photoing is. Hope that helps!

I just picked up this card table for 8$ at my local thrift shop, and I'd like to replace the vinyl top with wood. I want to be a bit picky and use a wood that looks nice, is smooth and is somewhat light so as to not take away it's ease of portability. I have a Home Depot & a Lowes local to me. Can anyone recommend anything good? Ideally I'd like to spend no more than about 20$ to replace the top.

I use this #povertydesk. Works great because it's easy to move with for 3rd year and plus you can clear it off for beer pong after your tests. Got 2 of them at walmart for $20 each on sale and I set it up in an "L" configuration. More important is a good office chair to save your glutes/ back.

I was thinking about the 4' Adjustable kind because I'm 6'3" and don't necessarily want to be hunched over for hours on end. A fold-in-half 6' table isn't ideal in my mind for strength, but I could be wrong. What do y'all do for table length/width?

If you have the room space for it, consider a nice foldup table. Pretty cheap, lots of space, and easy to clean, doesn't look that bad either. I personally use it and I recommend it if you need extra space. It’s pretty neat your budget and it’s nothing special but it folds away pretty neatly.

... honestly I might still have my old one if I didn’t throw it out. The little plastic things are gone from the feet but if it doesn’t cost too much to ship you can have mine.

If you don't particularly care how it looks, I have been using 3 (an 8', 6', and 4') of these kind of tables as desks for over a year. I have never been scared of it not being able to carry all of the weight (even with me standing on it!) Cable management can be a bit annoying, but if you put a day's work into it, it can look pretty great! They can hold a lot of things and have a lot of space, I highly recommend them.

I picked mine up for significantly less expensive at my local Menards. For all three it cost me about $100 total.

Personally, I struggled with a lot of leg and knee pain until I started using small cushions to support my knees while sitting cross legged on a cushion on the floor. Made a huge difference. I'd recommend testing that at home to see if it helps.

For ankle pain, try floor sitting on a folded blanket or two - something with a bit more padding than what you're using.

Ah. I have a similar issue as my desk will be under my loft bed, out of range from the base stations, my solution is to just get one of these and putting it in the tracked area for seated games, then folding it up and putting it away when I'm not playing seated games. Though if you're in a different room than your PC, you'll probably have to get USB extenders to do that which is less than ideal.

Really hoping extra base stations become buyable soon after release. I'd love to have just one more for my desk.

The table has a high height which is perfect for this bike. I love it. I work 40+ hours per week at it and have clocked nearly 450 miles on the bike. I love it. My legs are more toned and my back doesn't hurt. I broke my tail bone about 4 years ago and still had awful pain when sitting too long. But, shifting my weight to cycle allows me to sit comfortably. A few times I have gotten off of the bike and moved it back so I could stand for awhile. It's light weight and easy to move.

So, I know it's wayyyy below $1,000 but most of the actual board game tables are built to spec, which takes time. So, what we've done, to hold us over until we can get an actual boardgame table was get [this table] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014FK550U/) and put [this fabric] (http://www.hookloopoutlet.com/n30mnis.html) on top (which is like a playmat or mousepad material).

It's by no means fancy, but it works really well for board & card games. Plus it's sturdy enough to stay up. It you wanted to up what you spend, you could add some nice office chairs so it's comfy for long gaming sessions.

I didn't really keep an exact track of the total cost. In just materials it was probably around $300 or so. The playing surface was $115 with shipping. The oak was like $90. The melamine that is under the neoprene was like $25. The pine 2x3s and 2x4s were probably around $60. I also had to buy some tools, clamps, and random other things, though. It probably cost ~$500 total.

The chairs I got from Amazon. They are super comfy for folding chairs. Home Depot has them in the store if you are thinking of getting them and want to try one out before buying.

As an alternative if you want something that's "good enough" to use, but not so expensive that you feel bad if you have to throw it away when moving you could try the 4' variation of the table, and a cheap felt covering.

That gets you going for 80 bucks. That felt covering is definitely thin, but its enough for cards, and dice to be picked up. Seats 4 or 5. Also the 4' table is lighter, and probably a little more prone to be pushed/knocked around if, say, your floor isn't level or something. Obviously you get what you pay for ( a nicer cover would probablly go a long way), but if budget, space, and the potential for disposing of it in the future are concerns its something to consider.

I wouldn't recommend this as a permanent solution, but its a bargain that can get you playing all but the largest of games reasonably.

This may not be the perfect solution for you if you're short on floor space, or if you're more interested in display rather than use; but I've been able to shoehorn three banquet tables into our guest bedroom, with three computers per table, all ready to use at a moment's notice.

The tables I'm using are the wooden type with folding metal legs, like these, but purchased second-hand on Craigslist. Some are a bit ratty, but they hold computers off the ground, so they do the job.

This table with this felt cover have worked amazingly at my small home. I didn’t pay full price for either though, but anything similar should work as well. The felt elastic cover is amazing for any cards.

I use my kitchen table for gaming, but I almost exclusively game with my wife. Because you want something portable, perhaps using one or two folding tables would work? Something like this?

I wouldn't suggest using some kind of mat, because you'd end up with a group of people around the floor. Unless you can find a firm overlay to place on top of your existing table. Maybe just a piece of plywood and a table cloth?

If you don't have time to make it yourself you might consider buying a poker table top and then just using it on the floor instead of on a table.

What I have is one of those 4 -6 ft folding tables from costco set up in the playroom. If I need to move it, the table closes up and we can clear it out, the kids can move chairs around, and its washable (kids ya know).
You can add that folding puzzle holder on top, keep the puzzle safe and still have the table to work on. All movable and portable yet stationery and convenient.

Well while it's a bit of a pain to set up, and isn't the most stable thing in the world, something like this is fairly common. One of these days I'll have the time (and money) to finish my home desk, but right now all of my gear is on some of those. It's a bit short for me, but it's better than nothing, and still higher than most tables.

Based on your description, I'm not exactly sure how big you need. However I bought two of these and they are ok. I wish I had a bit more table space, but I also have space issues. I like that I can just pull one out if it's a small or average sized game.

How much do you want to have on the table, and what can you have in boxes or such at your feet?

We use one of these for the DM when we game. It works pretty well, but I wouldn't want to have a light and water and paints and brushes and the mini itself on it all at once.

I bought a couple of plastic folding tables like this. They're cheap, fairly large, sturdy, and easy to move. I wouldn't trust the ones that break down the middle and fold into a "briefcase" but the one piece ones are solid.

A bedframe that folds up flat and comes in various sizes.

A mattress that folds up rather compactly, can be used as seating, and comes in various sizes. Can be padded with a mattress pad and blankets.

Still too much? Get a Japanese style futon.

A desk that can be folded down flat. As a single person, I often eat at my desk.

Or if you don't like to eat at your desk, a collapsible small personal table...just sit on your bed.

I understand the desire to not have much of anything because it's a pain to move, but there's a point where it gets ridiculous. There are ways around it. Yeah, having sex on the floor is better than no sex at all, but I won't be having any sex if I don't get a good night's sleep, and I certainly need at least a few inches of padding more than a yoga mat provides.

We used this table for the first year or so of DND, it is roughly the same size as the one you are talking about getting. If you aren't using a play mat then it has more than enough room. Two people on each side plus 1 on each end is exactly 6 spaces. If you needed room for everyone's books and a battlemap then you'd be running into space issues but as you described you will be fine.

If you're looking for something on Amazon and cheap this can't be beat (though the depth isn't ideal. 40-48 inches would be better but you're looking at over $100 for something that large.

Now that the plastic tables are so common you don't see the wood ones as much, which makes sense since they're such a pain in the rear.

I own these. They aren't bad, but I have a tendency to slouch in them which makes my legs fall asleep.

I think that's a cool design for a standing desk if you cut the price in half. For ~$75 I could get this for the monitor and this for the keyboard and mouse.

It's cheaper, still large enough for most-to-all mahjong junk mats (though you could even go without thanks to the vinyl inset) and it can be folded for compact storage when not in use.

I also bought 4 matching chairs but regular foldable pipe chairs will be cheaper if you don't care about the chairs matching the table.

We bought a small adjustable table one thanksgiving and that thing turned out to be a workhorse. I pull it out to the living room and pop it up to countertop height to fold laundry while watching some indulgent show. The kids can’t reach my piles up there. The one that looks the most similar to mine (mine appears to be an off brand version) is this one.
I have had no issues with the height. I am 5'8" and when the table is extended fully my arms are a little less than 90 degrees.

As far as stability, I have had a few scares with people knocking into the table. (Hired for a college house party, far too many people for me to feel comfortable) I ended up running a 4 beads of gaffer tape over the legs at the next similar event and had no further issues with stability. In all of my other more tame settings, I haven't felt the need to tape down the legs of the table.
