Happy Zambambo! ♥

I would really super duper love these roller blades! I want to get into skating for fun and to help me lose weight, and as a bonus I can take the kids while they ride their bikes! Win win, fitness and fun for everyone! :)

I hope your birthday is lovely ♥ XO! Thanks for the contest!

Take everything apart you can. If the boot can come off cleanly, take it off and either throw it in the washer or hand wash it. It may need to be done twice due to the smell. It is debatable if you wish to use a dryer or just air dry+towels. You may also consider using baking soda to soak up some of the moisture and the smell.

Plastic and metal - Any plastic parts just give them a good soak and some hand washing. I believe your frame is plastic as well, but if it is metal it would follow a similar setup, just avoid soaking to prevent rust. Axles and spacers, same thing. If they are rusted over though, you may need to just toss them though.

Wheels and bearings - I cannot speak for wheels, not much knowledge, but they are probably fine anyways just needing a good polish. Bearings, if they are the non-cleanable kind, they are probably not worth attempting to repair, just buy new ones, they run like $20 on Amazon. If the bearings are cleanable, like they have a removable rubber insert, look up some bearing cleaning guides.

If you don't have the tools for removing stuff, you can pickup a bearing pusher and Allen Wrench usually pretty cheap. Here is a $13 one on Amazon which ships in 4-5 days with standard shipping to USA. If you need help with parts suggestions in the event something needs to be replaced, feel free to ask me or anyone around here.

I hope everything works out for you. Awesome job diving into action like that, I know it is just being in the right place at the right time, but still awesome job helping the kid out.

The upfront cost isn't too terrible, you'll need skates (obviously), but don't need the pricey ones when you're just starting out. Trust me, you won't know the difference until you're pretty well into it, and even then some people don't upgrade. I'd suggest Riedell R3's to start. Several websites have a "derby starter package", but unless you want to have your knees perpetually shredded, I would suggest throwing down the cash for good knee pads. 187's are awesome. I highly recommend Sin City Skates for all your derby needs. It's entirely owned and staffed by skaters who will give you great advice about gear, wheels, helmets, teams, etc.

I saw that you mentioned derby insurance in a comment above. I WOULD NOT suggest skating without "real" insurance as well. The derby insurance is basically just a legal requirement so that venues can't be held liable for skater injuries. The deductible is absurdly high and they still won't cover everything.

I absolutely love skating. Plus I get to blow a whistle and yell at people, so that's great stress relief ;)

>The size charts all mention length of the foot, but what about height?

Most skate sizing charts only mention length, with very few making mention of width-wise sizing (Powerslide and Razors being the only examples I can think of, off-hand), and there are none that I can think of that mention height/depth-wise sizing.

One plausible theory is derived from the statements here, that "90 percent of European shoe sizes don't come in multiple widths" and "Most European sized shoes only come in medium width", and that the same is likely generally true of skates - that is, that most skate boots (many of which use, or include, EU sizing information) are built to a more-or-less medium width.

(The same page also links to an article about extra depth shoes.)

I would recommend going to your nearest shoe store and asking to use their Brannock Device - that would get you his exact foot length and width (as well as arch length, which could be useful in selecting aftermarket footbeds/insoles, if needed).

Also, something to note is that a softboot skate will generally be more forgiving of any peculiarities in one's foot shape, so using a softboot skate (something like this, or this, or this) instead of a hardboot (like the skates mentioned in the opening post) might be a better fit for your husband's feet if he requires significantly greater-than-average height/depth (that is, more than can be gained by removing the footbed in the original skates, and/or waiting for the liner to compress & "break-in") and/or if there are any other peculiarities to the shape of his feet.

As far as potential vendors, that list includes (but is not limited to) Inline Warehouse, ProSkaters Place, InlineSkates(dot)Com, Shop Task, and Thuro Skate Shop.

Something like these Rollerskates would be good. You get a lot more stability than roller blades, but they're a bit more maneuverable than regular roller skates.

Get the dog a good harness, clip to the back of it, and go. You really should work on some verbal recalls, but honestly, I've seen people do this using a two point harness. Have one leash attached to the front clip, another to the back. You let the dog pull you using the back clip and when you want to stop, you gently pull back on the front. You would start training this while walking (I know, I know. You don't want to do this, but give it a couple weeks of short walks just to get this down and you'll be skating/riding/etc in no time).

I also know one person who had a lot of success with almost a horse-like training: the back clip hooked to a hand's free leash (attached to your belt) and you have two leads hooked to the front clip, one coming out on the left and one on the right. Gently pull left when you want to go left, gently pull right when you want to go right, gently pull both when you want to stop. Again, you train this on walks first and then go to the dog pulling you.

I think something like this cooking set would be super cute for Adela --- I remember cooking with my dad, and he'd let me pick out a recipe and we'd cook it together for dinner, it was so fun. Plus, she'd have her own measuring spoons, and you guys could do cookies or something so Isla could help decorate :)
These are a little more expensive, but you could get them both a set of rollerskates! and of course, knee pads!. Might be a little hard for Isla, but it would be a fun springtime activity, and plus getting to teach them something or to share a first activity of any kind is always fun <3
Have a great time at the birthday party! <3

Okay so,

Figuring out the sizing has been interesting lol. Being a size 11 foot sure as hell doesnt help.

  1. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071X2Q2KD/ref=crt_ewc_img_olp_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3H8ADXOCP7JIK
    - Has some cool reviews about it. Price is great. Color looks beautiful. Sizing ima have to go 1.5 bigger unless I find it else where. Looks very durable and comfortable, the vented boots is nice considering I live in the Nevada heat; any cooling helps! Comes with 85A Wheels, rail is removable and interchangeable with other styles/setups. $230. Available via Prime; so could return if the big size is a problem

  2. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F0XRVX0/ref=crt_ewc_img_dp_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3H8ADXOCP7JIK

    - Believe this is a newer model then the F6, for $30 more with a similar style as the F6; and also has a raving
review; I would be wiling to test them out. beautiful design. Has my sizes. $250. Not prime eligible. So sizing
would have to hopefully be right.

  3. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GBVYN6N/ref=crt_ewc_img_dp_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AI3ODVS58VYZ2

    - Seems to be built by a company that really put time and effort into the blades. Seems very well made. has a
great design. some cool color options to choose from. its the most expensive of all the setups at $279. (lol,
just realized the logo looked familiar, same company that made my boots. the dude they use on amazon
listing was same dude on my box for blades lol. was wondering what felt familiar about this item.). 85A
wheels. interchangeable setup. they have my "size" but they claim to run a bit small. and they dont have a
size bigger then what I would "need". This does look like a great setup. Not prime eligible.

So these are the three options.

    What do we think fellas?

One of my first skates were the rookie forever rainbows, and they go for about 65 US dollars on amazon. I would totally recommend them for beginner skaters, as I had a great time rolling on them indoors and outdoors. The wheels are actually pretty good as well, not super gummy though, so it would be a bit tougher on crappy asphalt. Toestops could use a replacement, but they would be fine for a beginner who isn't using them everyday (I wore mine down pretty quickly from skating every day). Overall though, I would either recommend the rookie forevers, or a pair of rio rollers, which are very similar and have a low price point as well.

Maybe too late, but I just got a pair of Candigirl Carlin's from Amazon for $100. Metal trucks, outdoor wheels, non-adjustable toe stop, cute colors like the Moxi skates. They have great reviews, mostly from other noobs, but I think they ride great so far and seem to have more padding than the Moxis. This is my first pair of skates ever and I'm in love. I wanted a more affordable option to the Moxis to make sure I would use the skates enough to justify the price of a 'better' pair later on.

Note: even though they say 'suede', it is a faux suede and faux leather lining. I can't really tell, tbh. It's not that cheap looking microfiber.

I AM AN OPOSSUM

What a great thing you're doing! Thanks for the contest!

Something unique about me.. Hm.. I'm training to be a banked track roller derby player! I actually am still what's considered "Freshmeat," so I'm still learning. Last week, I learned to skate backwards and I am SO STOKED! My Roller Derby name is Tenacious DD... Like the boobs. lol

I think my big ticket item would be these awesome light up wheels! How cool would it be to be rollin' around, knocking b*tches down with light up wheels! :)

u/JoshMG37 come join the fun!

u/spirograffe · 1 pointr/rollerderby

i'm two weeks in, my team practices 2x a week but i can only make one most weeks because of an evening class: i want to get better at skating outside of that since once a week is not a lot, but i am a broke grad student and will have to save for a while before i can afford good skates. would it be worthwhile to get some cheap-ass children's skates (looking at these specifically) for outdoor use while i'm working towards that mst, or would that money be put to better use elsewhere? (i mean obviously it would be better not spent on amazon but what can ya do)

u/baharezo · 2 pointsr/Brompton

just checked, Bromptons post-2017 have 6mm bore, and Bromptons pre-2016 have 5mm bore for the rack version, not sure about the non-rack version.

You may need 5mm spacers instead, better measure before purchasing

most Inline-Skate(let's be more precise cuz roller-blade is not the only brand out there) wheels have standard 608 size bearings with 8mm bores.

So you will need to buy spacers(converter, sleeve, adapter... doesn't really have a specific name i guess)to fit the wheels. If your bolts are too short, you will need longer bolts as well.

The stock bolts are 25mm for the ones on the frame and 40mm for the ones on the rack. stock 40mm bolts will be good enough to fit the wheels, but if you are using a rack, you will need two more extra 55mm bolts as the skate wheels are usually 22~24mm thick.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003AOGJ3A (this is just a random link I googled to show you what those are, again, you need to get ones with the right size)

Order any inline-skate wheel of your favor, larger wheels are a lot more easier to roll and have less chance for your Brompton to tilt and scratch the ground, but depending on your riding style, oversized wheels may actually interfere your pedaling, so don't get something ridiculously big. if you wish the wheel to last longer, look for harder ones.

u/douglas_in_philly · 2 pointsr/rollerblading

I wish I'd taken a "Before" picture of my skates. They were filthy with dirt from lots of rolls over wet and muddy ground here in Philadelphia over the past few weeks. You can see how filthy (and worn down!) the old wheels were. I put about 575 miles on them.

I replaced the wheels with Hydrogen 80/85A wheels, the bearings with Rollerblade Twincam ILQ-9 Pro Bearings (though I got them from Inline Warehouse, not Amazon), and a new Rollerblade brand brake from Amazon. I also bought a Sonic Skate Tool, which really worked well!!! I got it from Inline Warehouse, too.

Took them out for their inaugural roll this morning, and although I couldn't skate at top speeds for long periods, due to wet, leafy patches, the spots where I could, they were AWESOME!

Like new skates again!

Yuck... On the street, like door to door? Or on a street corner in a city?

If you give the profits to charity, a local grocery store might let you setup shop in their entryway.

If you can find a market to tap into, then you can start thinking about how to serve that market. You could sell reusable bags to people entering a grocery store. At a whole foods you might be able to sell wholefood's own bags, and have them give you a "commission" which goes to charity.

If your on a street corner, you are selling to people trying to walk somewhere. You could sell bikes, skateboards, or (these monstrosities)[https://www.amazon.com/Razor-25056130-parent-Jetts-Heel-Wheels/dp/B01D4X6ZN0].

"Why are you walking like a sucker when you could be rolling!"

u/Vadim_M · 1 pointr/rollerblading

They work as intended. Their job is not to let you to sqeeze two bearings of one wheel together when you tighten the axel.
You install one bearing, then spacer, than second bearing.
Even such https://vsrv1assets4.gtp.com.au/clients/s/surfsailaustralia/largeimages/968342.jpg spacers will work.

Regarding bearing types. There are two types of rollerblade spacers, designed to work with 6mm and 8mm diameter axels. You bought spacers for 8mm axels (more common), hope your skates have 8 mm.
There are also 6mm axels and spacers for them (like this https://www.amazon.com/Inline-Rollerblade-ALUMINUM-SPACER-Spacers/dp/B003AOGJ3A) they are less common and used mostly on some cheaper fitness skates.
