Welcome to RAoA! You don't have to have prime but it does make shipping costs free for many items so if you use Amazon a lot it is good. Are you currently a student? If so then you get 6 months free of Prime!

Anyways what kind of pets do you have? Have you ever treated ferrets?

It's nice to meet you! If I win I would like this jump rope or you can pick something else from my list and surprise me! Thanks!

u/farsideofthemoon Β· 2 pointsr/BeautyAddiction

It's actually really awesome cardio! :) It's totally a great workout for someone like me who hates running, and I've seen some studies say it's just as effective as getting out for a jog (but TBH most of those studies were published by jump-roping advocacy groups so who knows, lol).

Haha that's okay, I didn't know either! Are you in the UK or stateside? This is the bestselling one on Amazon, and only $7! If you're short like me you can pop the handles off and get the rope to your ideal length. Haha. I also believe Target has them!

u/[deleted] Β· 2 pointsr/Fitness

Jump rope is one of the best exercises that can be done anywhere, improves coordination, builds muscle and improves cardiovascular endurance all at the same time. Ideally, you want to aim for 10min straight of rope work, you must slowly build up your endurance if you never really jumped before. Here is what I recommend to get started

  1. Get yourself a proper rope! This is the most important step, go to a sports store and find a speed rope, the cheap plastic ones you get at Target etc, do not help.
    Here are two examples
    Great for beginners
    http://www.amazon.com/Valeo-Deluxe-Speed-Rope-Black/dp/B0007IS6ZG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1405430757&sr=8-3&keywords=speed+rope

    Great for more experienced jumpers
    http://www.amazon.com/Buy-Jump-Ropes-Double-10-Feet/dp/B00EXJ4S1Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1405430800&sr=8-2&keywords=speed+rope

  2. Adjust the rope to your height and jumping ability. Put your foot on the middle of the rope and grab both handles, it should reach just underneath your arm pits. Adjust accordingly to either a slightly longer (easier) or a shorter length (harder).

  3. Practice every single day, even twice a day so that you may get proficient in jumping. Wasting energy jumping too high is not effective and could cause injury. A slight jump is all that is needed, with alternating feet. In the beginning, keep feet together and jump slightly for the rope to pass under foot.
I have a video that I made showing jumping techniques, message me and I will send you the video from youtube.

Here is a great program to try for beginners

1min jump, 15 to 30 sec rest for 10 minutes (use a tabata timer to keep track Eg, Endomondo or Gym Boss

Progress your jumps to shorten the time you take to rest and introduce different jumping techniques as you become more proficient at it. Eg, jumping jacks, shuffles etc.

Here is my jumping program that I do after a workout

    10 minutes non stop
3 minute warm up, 1 minute double unders, 30 second jumping

I hate my local gym(s). So. Damn. Much. I know it's just me. I'm impatient, intolerant, and generally just can't stand the douchers everywhere. So, I finally finished up my garage gym. It's not pretty, but it works. I just need a few more plates, and a really good deal on a row machine (and to clean up the other half of the garage).

I'd recommend buying any cheap jump rope to start so you can learn how to jump properly. (not sure your experience level based off this post)

Then, when you're comfortable, I'd consider this set. $88 but well worth the $$. I've had mine for close to a year now...I use it every workout (I'm in the gym 6-7 days a week) and it's still in great condition. Because of its ball-bearings system, it's got the smoothest jump. The weighted ropes also engage your shoulders/biceps. It's awesome, man...Amazon link -

Do you like spending time outside now that the weather's not absolutely abysmal?

Do you like working out, or at least tolerate it in effort to have a general good-for-stuff body?

Do you think back to the days of recess with fond memories of jump roping?

Do you want to work out outside to enjoy the nice day?

Then buy yourself this jumprope that I can endorse personally, and keep limber while having fun outside!

$500 home gym challenge
Coming in under the wire here.

I optimized for someone just starting out, and tried to balance between strength, conditioning, and gymnastic tools. The goal is to be set up for a good while without getting bored.

I’m a female so I opted for the 15kg bar :) but hey, it’s my gym, after all. One could switch the kettlebell out for a heavier bar.

$149 squat rack with pull-up bar

$149 iheartsynergee s-2 15kg bar

$120 for 240 pounds of secondhand plates

$18 rings - hang from chin-up bar

$33 resistance bands set

$5 jump rope

$25 20# kettlebell

Total:
499.18

(Edit: list formatting)

No bench - a quality bench is at least $60, but it only buys you one exercise. Can do floor presses for a while.

Spent bit more money on the bar - will support #1500 so should last a while. The squat rack also allows for hanging rings or resistance bands from the bar to do pull-ups or ring exercises.

Enjoy! Thanks for the fun challenge.

  1. I recommend baking carrot cake. It's so darn wonderful and very forgiving (it's damn near impossible to make a dried out carrot cake) It's my go-to cake!

  2. I would love this jump rope. It would make my day because it would help me reach and maintain my fitness goals while having fun!

  3. 'Tis the the season to be baking.

Been planning to start this but taking 8 classes this semester is really giving me a hard time to have a set routine. Would it be possible to ask for advice on how to go about in beginning. I have free time from 7-8 PM + on MW then afternoons on thursday/Fridays and as well as weekends. I'm quite tired when I just arrive home that all I do is shower and lay in bed at times. I really want to change this. I used to be able to go to the gym with my previous schedule but that was when I still had time to go to the gym in the morning. This is why I mainly planned to do bodyweight fitness but as I've mentioned, I've barely even started. I think this starting is anxiety induced as well as I'm not sure if my starting weight is adequate enough. I'm 5'3, female, 160 lbs(to be safe). The equipment I have:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00091RXN2/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and
http://www.amazon.com/Crossfit-Jump-Rope-Mastering-Guarantee/dp/B00DAMWXLO/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1396298098&sr=1-1&keywords=master+of+muscle

Would this be enough to progress? How much time should I allocate for exercising? I'm sorry if the questions and my text is really sloppy. I just don't know what to do anymore, please help.

u/DutchB11 Β· 1 pointr/homefitness

Rope training is good for strength but even better for cardio and core. Those are good numbers but may not translate. Do you really have that much space or are you out in your driveway? With the space to use and store it and an anchor point you should go ahead and get the 50' since your work rate is dictated by how much of the rope you are actually moving with a wave. You can go with a shorter lighter if you are really more after the cardio and core benefits.

If you want to try something that will give you a lot more exercise options and still deliver the rope workout you are looking for try this new unanchored, flexible metal core Hyper Rope 20ft short Hyperwear battle rope. It is recommended in the December Men's Health just out. If you are Amazon prime here is where you find the Hyper Rope.

Well Happy Birthday!!! What has made me happiest this week is realizing that I am almost done with school for the semester!! Well this happens to work out perfectly, my favorite food is sushi!!

u/RumpleAndBelle Β· 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I've recently started working out and getting into shape, after losing I am more determined to keep it going :) so I guess you can say I am in love with getting into better shape. I've lost 22 LBS so far my goal is to lose another 50 LBS. If the prize could be a GC I would put it toward This weight set. Otherwise This jump rope or This work out DVD would be fantastic. I would love to do more than ride on my stationary bike and swim, I also walk which is great but getting toned with other work outs would be nice too. Thank you for hosting this 3.14 contest!

u/CoffeeNut98 Β· 1 pointr/bodyweightfitness

Hi I've got thirteen dollars left on an amazon gift card and I was wondering what recommendations you guys/gals have for me to buy body-weight fitness wise. I'm currently doing this workout plan minus the ruck marching, pull ups (will start once I buy a bar), and rope climb. Right now I'm considering a jump rope like [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Jump-Rope-Adjustable-Lifetime-Guarantee/dp/B00R6SSHL8?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_1&smid=A1E9W6GH1CKUOI) for cardio on rainy day but am open to sugestions.

P.S. does anyone know how to convert minutes w/jump-rope into miles run? e.g. 15 mins. with a jump rope at moderate pace is like running 3 mile etc.

Thank you & have a great week!

u/effeduphealer Β· 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This jump rope would be awesome. My friend and I are doing different fitness challenges each month to have better health with Weight Watchers. Jump rope is coming up soon, and a counter would be AWESOME!

u/lucky_whiplash Β· 2 pointsr/crossfit

Most of the time my advice on stuff like "What do I do to get ready for crossfit" is to just join up! But I understand the context here...

If you have an hour a day, I'd say just run... But not JUST jogging. Find somewhere you can set up 50m for sprinting. Or just figure the length of a street block.

Sprint the length of a block, rest for a minute. Then Sprint back, rest for a minute. Do that five or six times, then take a nice, steady 20 minute jog.

Also, buy yourself a jump rope and get really comfortable with it. One like this. You'll need one like it when you're actually doing crossfit, so you might as well grab one now!

I wouldn't worry about the weightlifting. Better to not go in with a bunch of bad habits. Just get a feel for those really short, high intensity intervals. And get yourself familiar with that jump rope!

Edit: Congrats on that school work load, young blood! Focus on school for now, plenty of time for crossfit!

u/TheDuckOnQuack Β· 1 pointr/Fitness

Resistance bands such as these http://www.butneveragain.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/resistance-bands.jpg are good, versatile pieces of equipment and they can be used for almost anything.

Jump ropes are also great pieces of workout equipment although honestly, I don't see that many people using them. Still, if you think people would like them, you can get them relatively cheap and they don't take up much space. Something like this http://www.amazon.com/Valeo-JRS-Deluxe-Speed-Rope/dp/B0007IS6ZG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346146285&sr=8-1&keywords=jump+rope would be good although if you decide to buy jump ropes, you should get at least 3 or 4 different lengths. As long as you have a place to hang them up, they should last a while

I use the Ultra Speed Cable Jump Rope:
http://www.amazon.com/Buy-Jump-Ropes-Double-10-Feet/dp/B00EXJ4RXK/

The price is currently about $7 but a few days ago it was only $3. It's a great rope for the price.

This rope looks pretty nice too at $18.88:

Well, if you figure the apartment/sound thing out, this rope is a good one to get. I've had mine for about 6 months or so and it's great, I recommend everyone who's into jump roping to get one of these. Fast, quiet, durable, easily adjustable, and comes with a small bag. What more can you ask for.

I use this. It's a speed rope meaning that the rope is really light and that allows you to jump with more speed as well as quicker. It looks really flimsy but it is quite durable. Good luck with the jump roping! I am a big fan myself. (Also adjustable in length. You can cut the cord at the end off if you want to).

Be ready to condition the leather and maybe use a 600 grit sandpaper on your handles, it's in a high gloss finish and tit gets hard to hold when the sweat flows.

These are actually a few things from my own wishlist.

Adjustable Weights

Weighted Gloves

Speed Rope

Punch Mitts

All these are great for home working out, granted most of them are geared towards martial arts & boxing which is primarily what I do. The punch mitts require a partner so it might not be the best prize unless there are competing couples.

I went the same way. Got this one here. I think mine was only $7 too. Made it a little better by adding tennis racket grips (tourna grips) to the plastic handles, get great grip even when sweaty.

u/piratelax40 Β· 2 pointsr/Fitness

it does make a difference, however buddy lee ropes are both very expensive, and the most benefit is derived when you're trying to go very fast 4+ revolutions per second. If you're interested in jumping rope, start with an everlast rope like this which is a very solid rope and will get you through intermediate mump rope stuff.

When you start make sure the rope fits correctly, that can be a huge factor as well - by stepping on it with one foot and pulling it taught it should come up to shoulder height or very slightly lower. Any longer or shorter and you'll have trouble getting a rhythm.

From there work on very manageable goals - start with get 10 in a row and stop get 10 more and stop - the key is keeping your form smooth and not letting it break down. You can slowly extend the number you do to 15 20 etc and next thing you know you'll just be chilling as you go.

Look for routines online to mix it up and just keep at it. Most people think they can just pick a rope up and go to town - especially if you're uncoordinated it can take weeks but you'll get there - just 5 minutes a day 4 times a week and in a couple weeks you'll be doing just fine.

u/DunnoWhyIamHere Β· 1 pointr/crossfit

A lot of people mention these ropes and honestly I'm not a fan. I have one and made the switch to a smaller handle, FitSkuad, and found DUs much easier.

u/Zoocrw Β· 1 pointr/jumprope

u/BAUDR8 Β· 1 pointr/crossfit

Do you have double under's?

Rogue SR-1 is a common rope I see recommended on here I believe.

I learned DU's on this rope ($10):

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LGXE5NS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My box also sells these rogue ropes for $10/each:

http://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-speed-rope-10-pack

both ropes worked really well, so in terms of bang for buck, @$10/each I think that's a pretty good bang/buck. I now currently use an RPM speed rope 3.0 it's a great rope but I wouldn't say has as much bang/buck as the lower price ones.

u/k_jo_ Β· 2 pointsr/xxfitness

I almost bought the rope that /u/saygoodbye_tothese recommended today, actually.

I went with this one instead because it got equally good reviews and it's half the price. Can't speak to it personally though, since I just ordered it a couple hours ago!

u/thetoristori Β· 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I need a couple of things, but I'll keep it to my cheapest one (so you can gift more people) which is on my miscellaneous list: a jump rope. Going to Hawaii in a couple months and my workout needs to get bumped up a bit.

Yeah, I saw that but I don't really want to spend that much until I know i can commit to jumping. What do you think of this one?

If you're a cheap ass like me, I got this rope off Amazon and have been happy with it. I'm 6'5" and it's just the right length out of the box.

From my experience, you don't have to get too fancy. I use a [Survival & Cross speed rope] (https://www.amazon.com/Jump-Rope-Adjustable-International-Authorized/dp/B00LGXE5NS/ref=sr_1_4?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1500746882&sr=1-4&keywords=jump+rope) these days. Good quality, lightweight, and very affordable.

Hey, I've recently stopped going to my mma gym to focus on studies and decided that I'll start to jump rope since it's more convenient for me - Saw some of your posts on the jump rope sub and you've convinced me to order this one: https://www.amazon.com/Jump-Rope-Experience-Adjustable-Maximalize/dp/B00D136JQ2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1536601539&sr=8-1&keywords=golden+stallion+jump+rope

The floor mats you mentioned are these ones right?

How many sets should I get?
What mat are you using?

Also, do you have any comments on shoes?

This is the one that I have. I put a few knots in it to get it to the right length for me. But it swivels really well and it's not heavy.

Bag Stand $105
Heavy Bag $60
Speed Bag $27
Proper Swivel $20
Proper Bag Gloves $30
Medicine Ball $25
Jump Rope $7
Hand Wraps $12

Always a few extra things you could throw in, but this is a pretty solid starter setup.

This is the standard fare you'll find at most department and sporting goods stores. Works fine. If you get into it, you can always upgrade to speed ropes or weighted ropes.

I actually just purchased a new jump rope a couple of weeks ago, Master of Muscle. I haven't given it a full run through yet but will be competing with it in a wod-style competition this weekend. After that I will be writing up a thorough review on my blog (won't link it here so it won't be spam but you can find it on other posts of mine if your interested).

It's a very fast rope. I am actually having trouble keeping up with it but it may be my nerves from trying to use it competitively. My fiancee picked it up and doubled her dubs instantly, and it hasn't tapered off yet, so I wouldn't call it a placebo effect.

EDIT I will say that I have been wanting an RPM rope but haven't justified the price tag. The gym owner at our box has an RPM and I've used it sparingly, and enjoy it but I haven't used it enough to say it's any better/worse than the cheaper Master of Muscle rope.

Is that a referral code in your jump rope link?

Get this Seriously, stay away from the ropes that have bearings, or fancy handles. Get this rope, seriously, get the rope I linked to. I know what the fuck I'm talking about.
