After terrible twos comes threenagers. It’s like two’s, but they have intent. It’s equally maddening.


Is she starting preschool this fall? If so, that may help a lot. Our preschool worked a lot on patience and taking turns talking, and it showed at home pretty quickly. It won’t get better overnight, but it’ll help.


There’s a parenting strategy called Love & Logic that worked well for us. It sounds like you’re doing many of the core ideas, but it there may be some helpful tips on methods you haven’t tried yet that may click better for her. It also helps differentiate between behaviors that are good (green light), annoyances (yellow light), and dangerous acts like hitting (red light), and scaling your response appropriately so she gets it.


Specifically on the sink spraying, consider something like this:

Faucet Extender

It brings the water out closer but also lowers the pressure, so she’ll have less opportunity to spray it everywhere.


Last, if you feel like you’re just done with her shit, see if there’s any way you can get away for a night or two with just the wife before the new baby arrives. I realize not everyone has easy options for this, but it can be a huge mental recharge if you can arrange it.

When we’re both home we just shower with her. Usually FH showers her now because she’s over 25 lbs and I couldn’t do it anymore without my arm cramping up by the end. I’ve gotten muscle spasms before and I’m worried I’d get one while holding her and drop her.

If I’m alone I also shower with her, but I put her in her bath seat on the floor on the far end from the shower head. I spray her with water every so often cuz she loves it. And every couple minutes hand her a different bath toy from the collection to keep her interested in staying still.

One thing that helps her from sliding off the seat (this one by angelcare), is that I added one of (these big flat sponges) to give her some more “grippiness” it works really well. It’s kinda annoying to have to set it up somewhere to dry thoroughly but it’s well worth the annoyance.

The baby can lie down, be warm because they're laying on a warm wet sponge (drape a cloth over the top of them...) and I felt safe and secure using it because our little guy wasn't slipping and sliding all over the place. I loved this thing.

Yes! I actually have the same one (love it!) and found that I needed a bigger foam insert to keep my baby upright during bath time. Just a friendly suggestion :)

These bath sponges. Easy to travel with, lay in the tub, set it in the sink. Comfy for baby, easy to wring out and store. Loved them.

I used the shower visor linked above on my DD. I played it up as a special showering hat that she only gets to wear in the bath. It worked for a good period of time. After she turned 2.5 I think we didn't need to use it anymore. She understands to raise her head (I usually ask her to look at the light) and pour water on her hair only.
There are also these cups that have a silicone material on the front to protect their face as you rinse them. I'm not sure if they are sold in stores, link below:

My daughter used this Tummy Tub 'til she was around 3 (she's a tiny bit in the short side). That seemed to help. I still use it as a barrier between her and the faucet, making bubbles to pour into the big bath, and to have a ready reservoir of rinse water on hair-washing nights. She also likes digging the water out of it to splash.

We still use something very similar to this folding bathtub in our regular tub to this day. Also wastes less water. And the Tummy Tub is used to collect the water from the faucet and pour it in from.

We have a spout cover, too, and it makes me less nervous, but she also went through a phase of jerking it off, making it pointless.

I wanted us to get one of these organisers, since they service as a kind of barrier as well as a distraction.

Paints/crayons helped.

Like this was one such purchase. The only downside is, I only shower and I couldn't just leave it on my tub faucet because it held the thinger down that you pull up to make shower.

Do u have an Apple Watch? I’ve gotten to where I simply raise my wrist and say “Hey Siri, I’m Home” as I’m pulling up and after a few seconds it will run the scene and unlock the door for me without me having to fumble around with or unlocking the phone. That’s the easiest way I know of doing it outside of setting up an automation which would require me to confirm it by unlocking the phone.

I bought the Schlage sense on its release day a few years ago and it used to be where u could set up an automation that would unlock the door without confirmation but it’s been changed for a while where it requires it; in all honesty, I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing as I had a pretty eye opening situation happen early on where the signal didn’t go thru to the lock initially so I unlocked it manually with the keypad and at some point hours later the signal was received and unlocked the door around 2am when I was already in bed asleep. And this was before I fully knew the Schlage settings so I hadn’t yet set it to auto relock after a few minutes of unlocking so basically I was unaware until the next morning that the door was unlocked they entire night.

After that, I deleted the automation until I felt the bugs were worked out and ended up buying a door guardian that can only be locked from the inside of the house and acts as a secondary deadbolt but would still keep the door locked physically even if the Schlage somehow became unlocked again.

You should probably ask the apartments first what their policy is on drilling. Ours allowed us to drill just as long as we patch it up when we leave and it costs nothing to patch up the holes.

My husbands toddler used to freak out the exact same way. Mostly triggered by hair washing. I was mad at myself for waiting so long to spend $7 on something that turned our nightly battle into a compliant and easy task. Throw some water safe toys in, and all’s good. By 4 he started taking showers and he outgrew the majority of the hair washing fear. Trial and error, but I’d invest in one of these water blockers for sure.

How about a bath sponge? You just put it in the sink or tub so it's comfortable and non-slip.

We got one of those sponge things that seems to help. I get in with him and nurse him when he gets crabby. I think my baby just hates being naked. The first few baths, I used a baby bath sponge (about $5-$10). It was so great! I used it in both the sink and the tub with no problem at all. Now, however, we have started just all showering together, so we just hold him; or when I take a bath, I just bring him in with me.
