Sounds like fun! I'll have to do this later

1.) Something that is grey: Pelican Gray Nail Polish. (on private WL)

2.) Something reminiscent of rain: Shower Curtain is a barrier between the bathroom tiles and cascading, rain-like, waterfall that flows from the showerhead. (on dream WL)

3.) Something food related that is unusual: Candy Mold. Chocolate frogs, anyone? (on under $5 WL)

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!): Ice Cream Maker. No ice cream for me because I started keto last week. My friends and family would benefit from this when I make them some delicious ice cream. (on dream WL)

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!: The Knife of Never Letting Go. It's book one of the Chaos Walking trilogy, which has rave reviews. Apparently it's a dark, dystopian book full of suspense. (on high priority WL)

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related!: Laser Finger Beams (not on WL)

7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...): Westside Warrior Nail Polish. Lions, which are really big cats, are warriors of the jungle. (on under $5 WL)

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it: Origami Star Paper. I like folding these, but once I make them into stars, I literally have nothing to do with them. There's jars of them all across my house and all I can do is look at them (on under $5 WL)

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?: Song from Iron Man 3 Soundtrack. Everyone should see it because Iron Man + Tony Stark + RDJ = <3 (on digital WL)

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.: Spin-the-shot. If zombies attack, I would need to be drunk, so this would come in handy for some last minute fun before I turn into a brain eating zombie. Let's face it, I'm not surviving a zombie attack... (on $5-$10 WL)

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals: Coconut Oil. Everyone on the keto subreddit raves about this stuff. Being a newbie to this lifestyle, I feel that if so many people had great results using this oil, that it would help with my goals. (on $11-$25 WL)

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items: Anti-stress face mask (not surprisingly, found on my add-on WL)

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why?: Globe Bar. I would feel like a super cool James Bond-esque spy who would have a secret room hidden behind a bookshelf. Plus I love alcohol and globes. (on dream WL)

14.) Something bigger than a bread box: Desk Easel. (on $11-25 WL)

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball: Earrings. (on private WL)

16.) Something that smells wonderful: Pink Punch Baby Lips (on add-ons WL)

17.) A (SFW) toy: Kindle. I would consider this a techie toy. (on dream WL)

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school: Fun Colored Pens. (on add-on WL)

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be: Paints. My current obsession is painting! (on $11-25 WL)

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand: Mug. I love love love this literature mug. I not only love the varying typography all over it, but I think that there are some really striking first lines of literature. (on $11-25 WL)

BONUS

1.) Real name: PM sent

2.) Made in Oregon: Handwarmer Mug

Makeup (+ 1 extra lifestyle item)

NYX Vivid Brights Eyeliner in Vivid Violet or Vivid Sapphire - $6.99

This, or the following lipstick, would be the sample choice. I figured something other than black eyeliner would be nice & I thought the blue and violet shades of this were particularly lovely.

NYX High Voltage Lipstick in Hollywood, Rags to Riches, or Tiara - $2.99

I've really been loving NYX products recently (obviously) and I thought these lipsticks looked incredibly pigmented and came in pretty colors. As I said, the lipstick or the eyeliner above would be the sample choice.

BECCA Shimering Skin Perfector in Moonstone - Travel Size -$19

This is the most expensive item in my box. I've been in love with highlight/illuminators recently and I think they give an absolutely beautiful glow.

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray - Travel Size - $14

No one wants their makeup to start wearing off halfway through the night! Setting sprays are wonderful & I've been making sure to use them - especially since it's getting hotter.

Pack of 60 Glow in the Dark Stars - $6.28

The bonus lifestyle item! I had these when I was like, 10, and I loved them. I want to get them again, I just haven't. I think they're totally fun and are a nice bonus for the theme.

WHIM Bold Glitters Nail Laquer in Rock n' Stroll - $10

This nail polish looks like stars. That's it really.

Total - $59.26

Buy a pack of [these] (http://www.amazon.com/LumiStick-Brand-Glowsticks-Bracelets-Colors/dp/B000IZ9N78) and you will fit right in. I've been to 7 shows so far and I've never had an issue with cops. Everything is available, just watch everyone else and you'll knkw when it's the right time to buy or smoke. Don't be off by yourself doing something illegal and you're fine. Hide your weed when you walk in but honestly they barely check l. I bring multiple flasks in every time as well and never have a problem by putting in my pants.

I have had floor seats at every show I've been too. They're amazing and the experience is hard to beat. Being int he stands will be great but its a different experience than being right up in it. There is energy out there that's just awesome. Your dad will love it. We brought my friends parents to Randall's island and they were huge Dead fans. They loved the show so much they're coming to Miami with us. Have fun man. You're gonna be blown away.

just disclaimer some of these toys should only be played with under your supervision so use your best judgement. Check any rubber or stuffed/fabric toys daily for wear and if you see it starting to come apart throw it away as any loose pieces can be swallowed and cause a blockage. My ferrets aren’t chewers they just like to have toys to stash so I’m not as worried but everyone’s ferrets are different so be careful. Also you could make a dig box with rice (never instant) or dried pasta which is a lot of fun for them. They love tunnels, they love to dig, and they love to steal and stash small objects so the toys meet that criteria they’ll be happy lol

u/euphoricentropy · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I always tell people to bring baby wipes, but it looks like you have that covered. I would say bring lots and lots of bottled water, like a few cases worth. Other people in here have given good advice as well. If they will get delivered on time, I always suggest bringing shiny things like Glowsticks or EL Wire. There are lots of cool toys that are so much cheaper if you buy them beforehand from places like Amazon. One of my favorite festival toys is just a fishing pole. I put a 10$ bill on it and cast it onto the walkways by my tent and have a great time fishing for hippies.

u/allgoaton · 9 pointsr/Parenting

Preschool teacher here!

Expensive STEM stuff -- I've worked with all of them. If I had to get one, I'd probably do Osmo.

Bee bots

Dot and Dash

Cubetto

Osmo

---------

Other Manipulatives and Toys:

Reptangles - I found these at Savers and my students are super in to them right now.

Snap Circuits

Ikea Cars (not really stem but fun and high quality)

Mobilos -- can create cars but also so many other things

Marble runs of any style

"Pattern Play" Blocks -- We have these but I don't have the instructions, but kids still end up making fun designs out of them!

BIG Waffle Blocks

Architectural blocks sets -- for example

------

I have a major soft spot for board games (and related) at this age. Here are a few I love.

Animal Upon Animal

The Little Orchard

Count Your Chickens

Snug as a Bug in a Rug

Snail's Pace Race

Rivers, Roads, and Rails

-----

Ultimately, though, your focus should be on having fun! Your 3 year old does not need to be reading and writing or doing basic math. He should be learning to play cooperatively, self regulate, and be independent. I would focus on language skills and his ability to communicate effectively and understand directions. I teach Pre-K (currently 5 year olds about to go into Kindergarten) and I do not care at all whether they can write their names or do simple math.

For my daughter, one of the presents we got her for her first birthday is LeapFrog's "Violet", which is a stuffed animal (dog) that plays music and has interactive activities. It comes with a USB cord to hook up to your computer to program it with your child's name, pick your songs, favorite food and color and track how your child uses the toy. When you turn it on, it will say "Hi Sam!" or whatever the child's name is and use the name in songs and other speaking interactions. It's really very cool and my daughter, who just recently turned 2, still loves her. It's some of the best $20 we ever spent.

There's a boy version called "Scout". We got it as a gift for our friends' one year old boy and he loved his as well. And we got it for him specifically because we knew how much our daughter loved hers.

Here's a link to the item: http://www.amazon.com/LeapFrog-19156-My-Pal-Scout/dp/B001W30D2O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319126816&sr=8-1

u/miyukiis · 2 pointsr/santashelpers

Is there a Gamestop where you are? Sometimes, they have really cool novelty items from video games and stuff, and I've seen plenty of Pokemon stuff there too. (plushies, mugs, etc.)

Maybe a Steam/League of Legends gift card? (I say Steam because that way he can buy any online/PC games or gaming-related things)

This may be a little out of your budget, but I did buy my brother this as he does share a similar love for dank memes: https://www.amazon.com/Pepe-Frog-official-anatomically-correct/dp/B01MCT549R It's a Pepe plush! It's super unique and funny to have. He loves it.

I did a group test on USB3 extenders here is what I found out :

I tested using an Asus z170 Deluxe motherboard it has both Intel and AsMedia USB3 ports. I also used the Oculus recommended Inatek 7 port USB 3 Card.

——Worked——

Cables in this category mean the sensor detected as USB3 in Oculus devices and didn’t lose connection and provided solid tracking testing with the headset on, no matter what brand of USB3 port it was connected to (Intel, AsMedia,Inatek).

MutecPower 5m active USB3 extension cable £22

(picture seems to be wrong on amazon website, also note this cable seems to be sold as various brands but I'm pretty sure its all the same cable, it should look like this

Amazon Basics 1m Passive USB3 extension cable £4

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NH13UFQ/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

——Sort of Worked——

Cable Matters 3m Passive USB3 extension cable £7

Detected as USB3 when using the InatekCard (which has extra power from a SATA power connector)

Detected as USB2 when using motherboard Intel or AsMedia USB3 ports

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00MPMFKSI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Cable Matters 5m Active USB3 extension cable £11

Only worked as USB 3 in one of the AsMedia ports and only when everything else was disconnected. Was USB2 or has an error in other AsMedia or Intel ports. Detected as USB3 in the Inatek Card and seemed ok testing in Oculus home loading area.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00MPMFKSI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

——Didn’t work——

Belfen Superspeed 5m active USB3 extension cable £7

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0179EPUEK/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

detected as USB2 on every USB3 port including Inatek card

> I ended up with a bunch of 550mah 3S batteries: can I use them to tinker with this build?

I suspect you would get a minute of lackluster performance from those batteries on a 5" quad. However, those are great bats for a 2" build. So save them.

> Battery options once I'm 100% ready to fly?

Amazon sells Tattu and Infinity Graphene 1300 mAh 4S batteries that would work well with your rig. Ensure you get a high C rating (60+).

> Prop options?

Those DAL props are great. Other options are the HQ 5x4.3x3 props.

> Extra wires?

I have never needed to buy extra wires. You'll collect plenty from parts you buy.

> I feel much more comfortable dealing with this kind of merchant.

There are other reputable merchants with US stock at competitive prices. Examples are heli-nation.com, getfpv.com, racedayquads.com, etc. The amazon/ebay merchants are mostly just buying from the overseas guys and upping the price. But I understand the sentiment.

As far as checking your build. You'll probably need to buy an XT60 connector and wire to solder to the FC/PDB (Like these). You'll need need some battery straps (Like these). You'll need a vtx antenna (rec: Foxeer).

Do you have a battery charger?

Do you have FPV goggles?

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

How beautiful!

My son just turned one on May 7th. Here are his favorite things:

Laugh and Learn Remote

Scout - Leapfrog My Pal - they make a girl version named Violet, too!

My Talking Lap Pup - and there's a Violet version.

I love the My Pal the best, because you plug it into the computer and load different songs and "likes". The puppy learns the child's name that way, and you can tell it how to pronounce the name, too. Then you can pick colors, animals and foods for favorites, which the puppy will sing to the child. It's so awesome, and my son loves his pal Scout.

u/TheDeadlyGerbil · 4 pointsr/GamePhysics

Wow! Okay, so this might seem like a stretch, but this game reminds me of this toy I saw in the early 2000's that was a number of electronic boxes with stick figures in them. You could rearrange them however you wanted and they would interact and play and fight and stuff on small little screens. I always wanted them because I liked how you could stack them in any way you wanted, and the little characters on screen would change about. I never got that toy when I was younger, so I feel that getting this game will give me closure.

All in all, amazing art style and very original idea :)

EDIT: After some quick searching, the toy I was talking about is called Radica's Cube World!

u/MONSTER_CLOCK · 3 pointsr/AskReddit

Yeah, it's actually pretty easy. You need these. When you connect the ends, they fit snugly into the bottom of a solo cup. They sell glow in the dark ping pong balls. We stuck a camera flash into a shoebox, put the balls in the shoebox, and snapped the flash with the lid shut. Makes the balls glow very brightly. You're all set, play in the dark.

Alternatively, you could use regular ping pong balls and set up a black light, I'm sure that would work pretty well. We just found it was a lot more fun when you couldn't see anything else in the room.

u/TheDirtyMagician · 1 pointr/multicopterbuilds

I'm happy to help! The people on here were awesome when I was just getting started so I'm glad to pay it forward. If you are not planning on flying FPV (First Person View) than the rest looks good! The charger I got is HERE and has worked great for me. The only issue is that is does not come with the power brick that goes from the wall to the charger, but instead comes with power cord that can be hooked to a 12V LeadAcid battery with two clips to power the charger. I would personally recommend going to a hobby shop and picking one out so that you can get exactly what you need (plus shopping locally is always good). That, or if someone else on here can recommend another charger/power adapter to go with this one since I am still a little new to all this myself. The only other thing I saw is that the battery you picked out comes with a XT60 connector to power your quad, but the kit you got appears to have a Deans connector for your PDB (power distribution board). You should pick some of THESE to solder to your PDB instead of the Deans connector so it will work with your battery. The item I linked comes with one male and one female connector. I used the same ones for my build and they have taken a beating but still work great :)

u/julietgrant120 · 2 pointsr/SantasLittleHelpers

Honestly I wish I could say I'm asking for something for me. But nothing would make me happier than to see my kids face light up. My daughter would definitely love this. Does that still count? Kind of hard to think about something for myself when my kids desever the world and beyond.

u/bigscot · 3 pointsr/scioly

Youngling, the force cannot be lost but it can be found.

Kits are the easiest way to go by far but there is not a sub $400 kit that I know of that can reach the North pennies. So if you go with a kit it is not going to be turn-key (you are going to have to modify its reach).

A lot of teams (including some of the ones I work with) really like the OWI-535 as it is cheap and easy to modify. Most of the other team I see at State every year are using VEX creations. And then there is that one robot from that one team, a fully custom 1:1 matching action robotic arm pair.

If you have the time, money, and skill; building one will give you way more options and flexibility when it comes to the competition. If you are building your own based on an arduino control; look into high torque servos, and these (I found them linked off of a video I cannot find at the moment).

And finally I will leave you with this Youtube link to something that was posted over in the student forums.

u/serpentcroissant · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

HAZ CHEEZBURGER lol.

$.98 free shipping! these would be perfect for my son and daughter for summer fun! we ran around outside at 11 at night with glow sticks. lol. first day of summer entitles them to stay up late. :)

u/I_want_hard_work · 5 pointsr/robotics

I am an engineering graduate student and I highly recommend this: http://amzn.com/B0017OFRCY

There's no programming to it. It's strictly the hardware of the robotics; gears, electric motors, linkages. I got it specifically because it's straightforward and I had plans to augment it with an Arduino wheeled robot and chase my roommate's ferrets (which I never got around to). It's all hard plastic and metal parts and the grip is pretty decent.

This would work well for you too since it has good instructions. If you can put together a table from IKEA, you can put together this robotic arm. It's also a great price. I see Mindstorms thrown around a lot, and that may work well in this case since he's 5 but I've always found their stuff to be incredibly overpriced (this is coming from someone who loves Legos).

Fair warning, this will give him great insight into the mechanics of how robotic arms work. Side effects may include him shutting himself in his room to work on his "arc reactor".

u/nmmb · 2 pointsr/Parenting

Both my kids loved a play table like [this] (https://smile.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Laugh-Learn-Around-Learning/dp/B01ASVCTIG/ref=sr_1_7?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1479498352&sr=1-7&keywords=fisher+price+door) around age 1. They still played with them at 2.

I would also recommend books. You can write a nice massage on the inside cover. It is a nice keepsake.

u/ceciltech · 2 pointsr/raspberry_pi

One of the coolest things about RPi is using the gpio pins to interact with and control things in the physical world and there are a bunch of cool things you could do for very cheap. You can even do it in Scratch but at 14 I would have them move to python pretty quickly. Some things you can do for cheap :

Basic supplies are a breadboard, jumper wires, resistors, LEDs and buttons. This kit could get you started with some of it.

First the most obvious: get a couple of resistors and different colored LEDs make them blink, have a R,G and Y LED and do a traffic light pattern.

Get or make some buttons and a piezo and the different colored LEDs and create a game show style buzzer that lights the first players light and locks out the other players till reset, then play Jeopardy with questions about what you have been learning. Basic idea is one button and one colored led light for each student and 2 buttons for host (one for correct answer one for wrong) both reset students light. Use piezo for sound when first student buzzes in and for wrong answer. Enhance it so the pi keeps score and give it a UI.

Ultrasonic range finder! Make the kids figure out the math.

Motion detection with cheap PIR sensors could be fun, light an led when motion detected.

Simon:
Need four different colored leds some resistors and four buttons.

And best of all ROBOTS!! You can get very cheap hobby motors and a (cheap controller chip)[https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-raspberry-pi-lesson-9-controlling-a-dc-motor/lm293d] add the sonar maybe a line follower. if you have a wifi dongle for pi you could create a simple web page to control the bot.

u/thouartmorelovely · 1 pointr/AMA

She has done coding with Scratch, Microbit, and Minecraft. She has made a balloon and other pictures through coding as well. She has created a Minecraft rollercoaster type park on her desktop while using her laptop side by side to get on the instructional videos from youtube, so she's good about learning stuff online by herself.

She has a one on one tech teacher who gives her three hour lessons once a week. She knows how to put together a basic kiddie computer, which means she's already better than I am tech wise. lol. I think she has a good intro to tech so far.

Her main interest is chemistry though. She wants to blow stuff up but I don't think she's ready for that yet. But tech is probably a close second as she spends all of her free time in front of the computer. Unlike most parents, I let her have unlimited internet access. Her spoken english is of an 11 yo even tho she's only 7.

Is it possible to combine chemistry with tech?

As far as math, she has already mastered addition, subtraction, and multiplication (3 digits times 3 digits). Her has done division, fractions, and the number line. I'm probably going to teach complex division and fractions during Christmas break. Not bad for a kid who started grade 2 a couple of months ago.

She has already used Dash by manually operating it using her ipad and coding his movement, so she already has a rudimentary intro on what a robot is about. https://www.amazon.com/Wonder-Workshop-Dash-Activated-Programming/dp/B00SKURVKY/ref=sr_1_6?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1539117016&sr=1-6&keywords=robots+for+kids

If she was your kiddo, what else would you want her to learn? She seems pick things up quickly.

My goal: get my weight back to 185-190 pounds. Progress is good so far, at my worst last month I was down to 160; I'm back up to 168ish now. Hopefully by the end of the summer!

There's only one number to choose: 69.

I'm a grown man, but love the shit out of glow in the dark stars.

u/comqter · 2 pointsr/ebikes

Is it possible? Yes. Is it a good idea? You're an adult, you be the judge!

Flexible 100w solar panels weigh about 5 lbs and are about 2' by 4'. Their maximum power is produced at about 17v, so you'll need a CC/CV MPPT charge controller that can boost the voltage into the 50v range. You can find the Ming He mpt-7210a for $25-35. You'll need one of these for every 10 amps of electricity produced by the panels, but you can easily wire 2 panels in series to double the voltage/halve the amperage, I think you could wire four panels in a 2p/2s configuration and get 300 watts into your battery in full sun. Here are a couple of videos you'll want to check out, since the instructions are inadequate:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mM6JTquNSZU

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVkehQ_RypI

I wouldn't bother charging while riding, I would take a 2-3 hour noon siesta and get a bit more charging in the evenings. I would get 3 or 4 panels and stack them up on a bike trailer, and then lay them out to charge. In the evenings, you can prop them up with a couple of tent poles or bamboo stakes. Tie them all together and then ram a few pegs into the ground to secure them. You could charge while riding but you probably won't want to lay out 16 square feet of solar panels (wind and all that) and you won't be able to position the panels accurately.

A 48v 10ah battery pack has about 500 watt-hours of energy. With 400 watts of panels, in peak sun, after losses from boosting the voltage, maybe you could get 300 watts into the battery per hour. In theory you could charge the battery in a couple of hours. Solar energy peaks at ~12-1pm, there will be twice as much power (or more) at solar peak as there would be about 2 hours before sunset.

It'll cost you around $200 to get one panel, one charger, and associated wires. Try it and report back!

It's the OWI Robotic Arm kit and while it is a little pricey for a "toy" everything goes together nicely and it's easy to hack.

I'd recommend that if you do get it that you also get a good Exacto™ type knife or utility knife and get good at using it. There are always little nubs of plastic left when you pull the pieces off of the panels them come in.

u/BrokenSpikes · 5 pointsr/robotics

Well, something you both might have fun building together is the Owi robotic arm:

It's relatively cheap compared to other things and is good quality. I have one on my desk I built a while ago and it is great fun. Robotics leagues will appear more often in middle and high school (vex, first, things like that) but this should keep her interested.

I had them too! I forget what they were called, but if I remember right, they had little stickmen inside of them that you could play with, and if you physically turned the cube upside down, the stickman would fall on his head!

Edit: Curiosity got the best of me. One google search later, I have the answer: They were called Cube World cubes, and it seems like they are no longer being made, due to the price on this Amazon listing.

I've got a cheap knock-off one from Amazon - it's a bit crap in that it only lasts ~1hr before I need to recharge it, but the video is great (especially for that price) and I figured I'd try a cheap one to see whether I actually use it.

Got my first letter saying a video I recorded got a driver a £100 fine and 2 points on his license last Friday. \o/

u/yosoybillbrasky · 2 pointsr/sandiego

I found a video on YouTube of some guy who did a pseudo teardown on one of these. They aren't too complicated and not 100% sealed with epoxy. Should be easy to fix.

If it can't be fixed you could order another one from Amazon for $15 and just take the electronics out of your son's scout, setup the new scout like the old, and then transplant the new scout's electronics into the old scout, and non-the-wiser. IMO this may be the better way to start with, because then you get all new electronics, buttons and LED and it's still the "same" scout on the outside to your son. Only downside is a possible ethics debate about plush-toy organ-harvesting :P

I'm free most this weekend so PM if you're interested and can meet in PB.

My game resembles an old DOS game and so it's got a fake BIOS bootup. That's a great basket for eggs for sure because it's all just text. Those old BIOS bootups were obtuse anyway -- loading up such-and-such a config file, listing some initialization info, and so on -- so it works as part of the aesthetic too. If you're unfamiliar you should look up a video. Fun times.

Birthdays, friends' games, references to DOS-era viruses, fake cheat codes for the game, fake textures and data for the game ("Loading better graphics..."); it's all there. Some randomly appear, some appear if you hold certain keys/buttons down, some are "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" in a huge wall of text.

The randomized file listing is challenging because I'm adhering to the DOS limitation of eight characters and a three-character file extension, but there's plenty in there too.

Yeah, adding Easter eggs can definitely be cathartic when you're bored or burned out of other stuff. That's why I made it as easy as possible on myself to shove them in.

edit: I also have about a million sets of controller glyphs (graphical prompts for pressing A, B, LT, Start, Dpad left, etc.). Of course it (hopefully) detects the sort of controller you're using, and so I have glyphs for Xbox, DS4, Switch, and so on. That's no big deal because that's just a game feature. But there are also hidden ways to make them look like the Gravis gamepad, the MS Sidewinder, this thing (got really bored at one point), and others.

u/octaffle · 3 pointsr/dogs

Pull out the big guns. Go for some cat toys or maybe even electronic toys.

Da Bird is like a flirt pole, but it's got feathers that spin as it flies through the air. It's very birdlike. It's not a dog-strength toy and you'll likely have to replace the feathers after she catches it two or three times, but if she likes it, you can attach the feathers to your dog flirt pole maybe.

Something like this or this drives all the dogs absolutely nuts. The first one with the spinning mouse has survived hard beatings from 4 dogs, but mine is an older product bought when things were still good quality... The crazy circle is great unless the dog chews it excessively or pulls the ball out.

The cat toys that are just feathers on a stick drive my Corgi absolutely ballistic. Add a bell to it and it's an overwhelming amount of fun.

Since she seems to get riled up about chasing, you can try a $20 RC car that you can use indoors. You can also try a Weasel Ball.

Final disclaimer: All of these are the type of toys you pull out to play with for an hour and then put away. They require heavy supervision because they're not meant for dogs.

Edit: Holy shit wtf. That bot comment chain is out of control. I didn't even mention the game. ...

I got myself a Crosstour 4k for recording my summer bikepacking trip. I also bought a kit of various attachments, mainly for the chest harness but also the monopod proved very useful, and a few spare batteries to keep it going for longer. (A battery will record between 1.5-2 hours.) Considering how cheap the camera is, I've considered getting a second one to mount under the saddle pointing backwards.

Apart from said bikepacking trip, I've tested it in London mounted on my handlebars. Mind you, I only used 720p @ 30 fps on normal quality to save disk space, so the picture is a bit porridgey. (The camera will do 1080p @ 30 fps, or 720p @ 60/30 fps, in fine/normal/low quality.)

For the price, I think it's a decent piece of kit. Interpret that as you wish. One thing to note, is that each time you remove the battery the time and date will reset. If you depend on that being overlayed you'll be setting it a lot, which I would personally find annoying, unless you always charge the battery in the camera. Other settings are persisted, the clock clearly has no backup power to keep it going.

u/phider · 1 pointr/AskReddit

I don't have the MW goggles but I do have these which work on the same principles.

The tech behind cheap NV goggles like these involves using infrared LEDs with a digital camera that can pick up infrared light. So basically it's like having a flashlight that can only be seen by certain cameras (and maybe whatever animals I don't feel like looking up I guess)

The end result is if two people wear them the other person looks like they have a flashlight glued to their forehead. But other than that they work great for distances of <50ft or so. Just imagine using a kind of crappy LED flashlight as far as viewing distance is concerned.

Some general tips for tomorrow (and the future):

Throw your B and C teams at nodes 1 and 2. One of those heavy on AOE (particularly Vader) can be really useful. This way when it's time to actually use them their TM isn't empty.

Daka is king (or queen I guess). Omega her basic ASAP.

99% of the time Lumi is lead. Both for the continual heal and the dodge.

And on those two notes, RNG is your friend. If you don't already know "RNG strings" are locked before you even start the battle. Meaning if you retreat and perform the exact same actions the results will be exactly the same. So on those trouble nodes keep retreating until you get 1-2 stuns with your daka. Any time you retreat you can take the same actions to get to that double stun if needed, or that lucky dodge, or whatever. Then experiment. At a certain point you're basically playing simon without seeing the prompts.

Try this team moving forward: Lumi[L], daka, fives, rey, phasma. Use them for 100% of the battles if possible (although throw b and c teams at nodes 1 and 2) and you should do well.

There's a vent in the chin of the BX-1 that'd be good to keep air flow into. I see people with them mounted on the side and wondered how that worked, so it's adhesive and an arm?

Cameras right on the top look a bit silly. But I'm going for function over fashion.

I hadn't thought of a rear facing camera, is that common or is it seen as over cautious? I guess if someone goes into the back of you that'd be clear from the helmet cam when you look around, no?

u/Bobby_Bonsaimind · 2611 pointsr/theydidthemath

I don't have a definitive answer and it is late here, so sorry if that trails off.

Given the Amazon description, I'd say you need to place this somewhere between an Arduino and a Raspberry Pi, with the first not being able to run Doom and the second being able to do run it. Given that this came out in 2008, I'd say it is closer to an Arduino.

But there is actually a short story showing what it looks like from inside. That doesn't go into details of the used chip, but we can see there that a button cell is used to power that thing, something that isn't exactly used to power "powerful" stuff. The bigger ones hold up to 620mAh, which is nice, but have a maximum discharge current of 0.2mA 2mA...which is...well, not a lot at all. From what I gather, that is hardly enough to run a very small variant of the Arduino. Which means that whatever is in there is actually not a general purpose chip, but the logic directly baked into circuits.

Which makes it rather unsuitable for running anything besides the logic it was designed for, unfortunately.

Edit: As /u/neotek pointed out in their comment, this is most likely not something baked as I assumed, but a simple, low tier chip. So, theoretically, you could string them together to get a network of those. But the limiting factor will be latency between them, it ain't going to be pretty.

Also /u/drummyfish is completely right in their comment, even if it does only a few things, you could still try to emulate logic gates with it and start building up from there...it ain't going to be pretty either and you will need a lot of those, and I'm talking hundreds of thousands at least here.

Don't confuse the ones that are just a flashlight and a translucent eyepiece, these are real infrared goggles. There is a display inside that will show you everything the infrared camera picks up while displaying only (at most) a faint red glow of bleedthrough on the IR LEDs.

I don't have this model, but I got some Eyeclops a few years ago for $20 on Black Friday. They are simply amazing.

While not as effective as hunting or military models, of course, they do let you see in absolute darkness out to a range of maybe 40 feet in open terrain. They work even better indoors, since the walls/ceiling/floor will reflect the infrared light around. Perfect for terrifying people in the woods or checking on the sleeping baby in the middle of the night.

u/wintersdark · 12 pointsr/pics

As I said above:

> Not at all. You can do a basic setup simply by gutting a child's toy. That's just getting you a single input, but it's inexpensive and simple to set up.

I mean, I still think this is fake, but getting brainwave input into a project (not necessarily reading desired arm movement, but rather just looking for alpha wave spikes) can be done trivially with junk like this.

You need a behaviorist, not a trainer. This isn't a training issue, it's a behavioral one. There is so much that you've done wrong, I'm sure you realize that now, that the most fair thing for your dog is to spend the money to get a solid plan from a professional that will help the both of you navigate the world safely. He will be the one that pays for your mistakes. If he bites the wrong dog he could be injured or killed. If he bites the dog of someone who is protective of their dog they can call animal control. If they determine that your dog is aggressive it could be lights out. Your first responsibility is to protect your dog.

This could have started from being around aggressive dogs when he was in his fear period, from reaching physical and mental maturity, or feeling the need to defend himself since he was off leash and you weren't right there to defuse a situation. Maybe all of that.

Raising his hackles is not playing. While his dog communications might be good, the other dogs might not have he same skills. Just because you thought your dog was friendly it doesn't mean other dogs thought he was. It doesn't mean that other dogs he approach are friendly.

You've likely caused a wide wake with other dog owners in your area, especially if they have a fearful or reactive dog. You haven't made any mistake that most of us haven't made with our first dog. I made these and so many more. It's how we learn. I swear the gift of having a reactive dog is it's like having a crash course in training, behavior, and etiquette. I went back and apologized to neighbors. They were all understanding.

Don't let him off leash at all. The muzzle will only leave him defensiveness and more likely to get aggressive. Don't let your dog be around other dogs that might be aggressive or cause tense interactions. Until you meet with a behaviorist I wouldn't let him approach another dog.

Find other ways to tire him out. Using their brain is as good as exercise. Get puzzle toys, play fetch inside. Take a Nose Work class. Make him work for meals. Get a Kong and freeze treats in it. If you have a car, car rides where he can sniff out the window. A dog's brain is built to process smells, let him use his brain and nose to find treats hidden in the house. Find a fenced area that you can have to yourselves. My old neighborhood had a fenced tennis court. I used to go there at 1 am so they could run. I found a flood retention area like this where I could take my dogs to let them run safely. I blocked the steps so they couldn't escape. Mix it up. No set pattern of activities. Get creative.

I have Pointers. They were bred to run most of a day while out hunting. They are at the extreme end of high energy. It took years for them to not just stand all day waiting for me to move. They just didn't relax naturally. I used to play fetch up and down stairs. They'd run down and up the stairs to get the ball for hours before getting tired. I would take them to a remote park on a 30' check cord so they could run in circles. With a little practice I could get them running in circles like a circus horse and not get too dizzy myself. My sister gave me a weasel ball toy for them to hunt. I took them to a quality doggie daycare. I took Nose Work classes. We worked on training every night. They worked for everything. After years of living in a second floor condo with no yard I bought a house with a yard. They still need a lot of work to tire themselves out even though they are now 9+ years old. It can be done without letting your dog run loose.

Start saving for medical bills and check that your homeowners insurance covers you if he bites a person. Do not let your dog off leash.

Looking to add lights to your bike that run off the existing battery pack for way less than electric bike specific lights? Especially when electric bike specific lights, are typically lame, 1-4 LED dated looking Chinese lights.

I'm going to show you how I added 2 - 7 LED Ultrafire U-L2 bike lights to my bike for less than $100. Do not use these lights on the road, they are extremely bright, and rated at 4000 Lumens each.

You can, however, buy the converter, and some lower power bike lights, or a single light even for even less money.

The first thing you are going to need is the converter. Its $21. This thing will take just about any pack voltage in, and output anywhere between 1v and 30v. Adjustable with a screw. Handles up to 3A

Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C9S5QNC/ref=sr_ph?ie=UTF8&qid=1450034772&sr=1&keywords=adjustable+step+down+converter

The next thing you are going to need is a light, these are the ones I used, they're $46. http://www.dx.com/p/ultrafire-u-l2-7-x-cree-xm-l2-t6-3-mode-4000lm-cool-white-bike-light-black-4-x-18650-241291#.Vm3Gr_krKUk

You are also going to need some things I assume you already have like solder, and a soldering iron. Maybe some heatshrink tubing to clean things up a bit. Maybe one of these so you can disconnect the lights.

http://www.amazon.com/LHI-2PCS-WRA0053-12awg-Silicon/dp/B012IQ7AJ2/ref=sr117?ie=UTF8&qid=1450035007&sr=8-17-spons&keywords=wire+connector+14ga&psc=1

So the little blue converter, has a green clip that comes out. You are going to need to splice into your battery's output cables, and run some new smaller cable out to the inputs of the green clips. Then you want to wire one end of the disconnect to the green clip, and the other to your lights.

I ended up just wiring both lights together, then into the disconnect, and then into the clips.

At this point you should have a disconnect coming out of the green clip, and the other going straight to your battery. The converter should not be attached to your clip yet. Plug the converter in, and measure voltage at the disconnect. Turn the CV screw on the converter until you get 7V. Now plug your light(s) in and you are good to go.

NOTES

If you run 14 Cree LEDs off this thing like I am you will be at the very end of the converters capability at 3A. It's going to get super hot, hot enough to melt plastic and potentially damage anything it touches. You will need to upgrade the cooling capacity. I attached an old intel heatsink I had with some zip ties, it keeps it cool enough that you can touch it and warm up your hands. This is only needed if you plan on running 14LEDS on high, for periods longer than a couple minutes. It has no problem with both on low, or 1 on high, 1 on low. If I had some thermal paste lying around I would have used it.

A COOL FEATURE

The ultrafire lights I have, have this cool feature of changing the color of the button on the back of them based on the voltage going in to them. They go from Green to Blue to Red to Flashing Red to let you know how much charge you have left in the packs they came with. You can set them up to change color with your battery pack. For example if my pack has a full charge at 58.4V, and I want the lights to turn red when I hit 48V I set it to like 7.4V at full charge so that at 48V it will put out 5.4V. These are estimates not exact numbers, you will have to math, if you cannot math I may or may not math for you at a later date.

Another note about that feature. Light output is not effected by input voltage into the light, and the higher the voltage you put into them the hotter the blue converter is gonna get.

Here's a video I did of the lights a while ago running them off the supplied battery packs. They typically only lasted for 45 minutes before the packs died, hooked to an ebike battery they last for as long as you want to ride. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTMVEObSdxg

I have ordered this active USB 3.0 extension, picking it up today.

According to this guy it works fine, and so do most of the USB 3.0 cables regardless of active/not active.

u/kerplow · 1 pointr/oculus

thanks for your reply! Mine are about 10 feet away from each other, at two different heights (one's base is about 2.5 feet off the ground, the other about 5 feet). I'll test it out a bit more when I get home from work. the extension does seem like the most likely source of problems. it's a 5m active cable, this one here.

"Much more difficult"... You know that USB extension cables exist... Right?

Master Scher has that video where he takes a https://www.amazon.com/Simon-1897-Electronic-Memory-Game/dp/B00E9YWJOS and attaches it to a post (say, at waist height) and then plays with just his feet (i.e., by gently kicking the lighted buttons). I'm not finding the video, but it was a cool idea for a taekwondo-themed game.

u/notazoroastrian · 13 pointsr/Android

my old LG G3 had this feature called Knock Code. Basically the passcode to my phone was a pattern of taps in a 2x2 grid (imagine something like Simon). The coolest part, however, was that this code could be input even when the screen was off. Not only that, but when the screen was off, the grid could be any size, and in any position on the screen. THAT was a fucking cool feature.

The funny part is he didn't need all of that link. Simply putting https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0032HF60M/ would have worked just as well. The parts after that aren't necessary.

u/soswinglifeaway · 1 pointr/puppy101

I got it at PetSmart and can't find the same toy on their website or amazon but it's the same concept as this although mine just has a tail thing that extends from the rest of the fabric. The weasel in that product looks like it's attached by a string and doesn't seem like it would last very long!

When my siamese were much young they had a TON of energy and went crazy over this thing: http://www.amazon.com/Weazel-Ball-The-Weasel-Rolls/dp/B000PKFJKG it would keep them entertained for hours! Maybe that's another toy to add to the pile? It's cheap too which is nice heh

>any kind of thing that moves by itself.

OMG, I bought my girl a weasel ball thinking it would be a good way to keep her occupied and for her to burn off some energy. Well something about it, I'm thinking the way it moved on it's own, scared the daylights out of her! She would not stop barking at it and would hide behind the couch or a person. She saw me put it away in a closet and she wouldn't go near that closet door for about 2 days!

In case it helps anyone, you can remove any search terms in an amazon URL and replace with "product" (as the child did here) and you can also remove the "ref" section completely, so this one would end at after /B0032HF60M/

I ordered this 5m USB cable:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00MPMFKSI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It is the only cable connected to a USB 3 card on my PC. It's not totally reliable but it can work - I'll need to cycle the power on the headset a few times before it will connect properly, but once it's connected it seems reasonably reliable.

I'm using it with this 5m displayport cable which seems fine:

Take it step by step, once the Motors and ESCs are all Soldered together and to the PDB its less intimidating. I felt the same way when I first laid everything out and now I have a working Quad and feel like I could build another with my eyes closed.

One thing that it looks like you may be missing is a battery connector for the PDB like [ this ] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012IQ7AJ2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1).

None of those games has the "the baddies dont move unless you do" mechanic. It's a HUMONGOUS part of SuperHot gameplay.

I guess this is why they released a demo, so you can see how much of a difference this makes to gameplay. Comparing SuperHot to RoboRecall is like comparing BeatSaber to Simon

I made these sweet Manzanita Tree Centerpieces. I bought Manzanita branches, dried them in the sun, painstakingly peeled each and every tiny branch, painted each tree, then potted each tree, adding sparkly lights, pebbles and moss to the base of each tree. They're quite nice!

You actually can use longer passive extension cables. I'm using this 5m one. I'm sure not every cable will work, but this one worked for me

u/Hongsta29 · 2 pointsr/oculus

yeah the length limit is 3-5m, but a repeater can be self powered and can go up to 10m, i.e - its still just an extension cable to the end user, for example..

http://www.amazon.co.uk/CSL-repeater-extension-amplification-amplifier/dp/B00MPMFKSI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1458896400&sr=8-2&keywords=usb+active+extension

Meditation is not a prerequisite for telepathy, despite popular misconception. This is actually unlocked via the Neurotechnology tree, and the Science guilds have already released tech that lets ordinary players use the similar skill of telekinesis without having to grind any exp. While we haven't had any such breakthroughs with telepathy, it's a sure bet that this too will be unlocked via Neurotechnology and not Meditation (or the other Mysticism-related talents).
