I'm going to make your day. If you have Kindle Unlimited and or Audible membership (if you don't then why not?), search for The Rho Agenda, The Second Ship by Richard Phillips.
Amazon allows you to Read and listen For Free on Audible for no extra charge once you borrow the book on the Kindle app (it may be 2 or 3 bucks for the Audible version of the 1st book in the series -- It's worth every penny you may have to spend too accomplish this whole scheme).
Even if you just do the one month or two months that it will take you to listen to the nine audiobooks in this series, it is the best hard science fiction series I've found in a while and the most suspenseful and exciting by far.
The narrator is Macleod Andrews and he is exactly what you're looking for in a narrator from the description in your post. Trust me, if it wasn't, I wouldn't be spending 15 or 20 minutes writing this "roadmap" out for you!!!
KEEP THIS IN MIND AS YOU BEGIN:
When you begin this audiobook, it's going to seem like a teenager-geared sci-fi book with maybe a little too much "drama" in it, but trust me. Stick with it until the middle of that first book and it starts to get good, really good!!!
The science contained in this series is super-specific and detailed and not glossed over like some authors tend to do. Richard Phillips (not the Captain Phillips from the Maersk Alabama cargo ship that got taken hostage in the Indian Ocean...Lol...different dude) is a great writer and with Macleod Andrews narrating, it is badass! You won't find a better pairing! The second book is fucking really good. I'm on the third now, and I'm telling you, it's the best sci-fi I've listened to in months, maybe my favorite series I've ever come across (still have a lot of books left to listen to) and interestingly enough, every time I think I've found the best sci-fi series bc this guy Macleod Andrews is narrating, I end up finding one that's even better.
The plot is simply fascinating. Just when you think shit can't possibly get more complicated...BOOM...another crazy, fucked-up twist. So far the entire series is one giant crescendo that builds and builds and just never seems to let up!

Macleod Andrews does characters and accents better than anyone I've found. He does the narration parts in character like you were mentioning and he is uber-talented at it. It's like listening to an amazing movie that lasts for days and days in these multi-voice narrations he is usually narrating.
Project Eden Thriller by Brett Battles is another of his narrations. There are 7 books in that series.
It's so funny that you posted this, bc I was literally just talking to the guy on Twitter, telling him how much I was enjoying this Rho Agenda series bc of that very aspect of it. He has that voice that can be anyone with any accent and it flows so well. You will end up losing hours of sleep listening, and it's sooo worth it.
NOTE:
I do have both the $9.99 Kindle Unlimited membership and the $14.99(?) Audible membership, and I think I may have had to pay a few dollars for the Audible version (it's way cheaper once you have the Kindle book purchased (or borrowed from the Kindle Unlimited Library) of the 1st book, but I know the 2nd through the 9th books were all "Read and Listen For Free" under the Kindle app, so I went ahead and downloaded all the audiobooks...just in case they decided to change their mind about that bc it was so good!

You might want to read some of the amazon reviews of recent zombie novels and look for common complaints.
I recently read Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End and really enjoyed it. The author kept it simple with a small cast of well developed characters.
My biggest complaint in zombie books is that a character's history before the outbreak is poorly developed and generally only mentioned as an easy plot fix. I think that after the outbreak people who just met would be mentioning what survival skills and talents they had (if they were not trying to kill each other for their stuff). For example a buddy of mine has ridden motorcycles as his only means of transportation for the past several years and a couple of times a month goes to a batting cage because he misses playing baseball; these two hobbies give him an excellent chance of survival in a zombie outbreak (head to foot protection and the ability to swing a baseball for a long time). My past of childhood/teenage pyromania has given me an uncanny ability to make fire which transitioned nicely into many, many restaurant jobs so I can take care of food and almost anything that needs to be sharp. Unfortunately, we have yet to find a third friend who is actually good at finding food so we will be reduced to raiding after a very short time. Basically, I think a person's past would be the main thing keeping them alive and not the stuff they manage to loot. Walking Dead is one of the best at avoiding my biggest complaint even though, I think it could do much better.

Most of them are Richard Laymon books, he is a great horror writer but I wish there is more variety on offer, some Stephen King would be great.
Any way, Richard Laymon's The Cellar is great old school horror fun, his most popular book (according to Goodreads is The Traveling Vampire Show very bloody as I recall.
I haven't read the non-Laymon books here but GRRM's Meathouse Man (The Grinder Comics Series) ought to be good.

The best thing about a Kindle for me is newspapers.
I like how my local paper gets delivered automatically while I sleep and is instantly ready to read during my breakfast. $6/month is a bargain.
On rare the days I have more time to spare, I can download the New York Times for the rather cheap price of $0.99 a single issue in about 20 seconds. This is an especially good bargain for the Sunday edition.
It's got SF as well as Fantasy, but Fantasy and Science Fiction is an excellent magazine. Roughly 50:50 SF:F, but all excellent quality.

I, Zombie by Hugh Howey...
It's disturbing, told from the point of view of zombies, and presents the idea that they can all still think, feel, taste and everything else as they go along but just can't control themselves. It's really graphic and disturbing, but a GREAT zombie book and an interesting take...
Apocalypse Z by Manel Loureiro
He goes for realism here and hits pretty true... Solid book and the 2nd one was just translated to English
They sell subscriptions for the Kindle as well. It's a lot more pleasant to read that way, plus you feel good about supporting them.
It depends what you'd like to read.
I'd recommend checking which periodicals support the device you might be looking for. I have the 7th generation kindle paperwhite (current model) - and for some reason both the New York Times and the New Yorker don't support it - only the older models (5th and 6th).

I really like Apocalypse Z series (only read the first one, linked here) by Manel Loureiro. It is about a zombie apocalypse survival told by a regular survivor (a lawyer).
I really loved it because it starts from the beginning of the virus spread and how news channels reports it.
A goal for myself is to run a 5k before the end of this year. My progress is pretty crap on this goal, as it is super hot outside in Texas and it's hard to get the motivation to work harder at it. But now that I've put it out there publicly, I'll work harder at achieving at it.

I really liked the first book and maybe the second (if I’m remember correctly) in this series. Gave me some DBDA vibes for sure. Dude was holed up in his house, scared, didn’t know what exactly was going on, making very calculated decisions, etc.
