I love the left side of the room. The right side all looks like it came from grandmas guest room. Which it potentially all did... as did my entire first college bedroom, but it's be easy to liven that up and make it yours. You have a pretty cool minimalist, tech vibe going with that desk, lamp and chair. Keeping the other side of the room more simple will let more exciting things be the center of attention.

With the bedspread, a solid light gray is always safe- you could throw that cool blanket on top in the winter too. It lets you get some bright pillows to add color if you want. With the lamp, a cheap way to go would just to get a more simple lamp shade. Something Light gray or white with some texture would be a start.

After that, some blackout curtains and a long curtain rod would be awesome. I imagine it really opening up the feel of the room.

Now plants, it's crazy how much it really livens up a room. If light is low, give this article a read. You'll find something at Home Depot or Lowes that you can take care of. Put some smaller ones on one or two cheap shelves with what ever other cool nicknacks you start gathering at school and it'll feel like a castle man.

I see a lot of stuff about wall decor on here. Get a poster or two if you want, maybe a mirror. Old maps are cool too. Find an old map of whatever town you're in or from. Maybe a cool (quite) wall clock, but don't go crazy; college dorms can start feeling like dungeons when the walls get too crowded.

I have done something similar (twice) with groups of teens when I was still working in a public library as their Youth and Outreach Librarian. I based one off The Hunger Games and another was for a Zombiefest.

For the Hunger Games program: I created "silver parachutes" using Mini Lamp Shades, which I wanted to spray paint silver, but ran out of time. Each one just had a paper bag attached to it, with a Hunger Games logo glued on. The goodies included: rations (granola bar and candy), flares (glow sticks), bottle of water (covered in a Hunger Games label), The Hob voucher (free book coupon for our booksale), Hunger Games bookmarks and some survival tips printed on a small card.

For the Zombie program: If you want to go the "Bug Out Bag" route, I have had teens create one of these in the past. During a Zombiefest week, they created their 24-hr bug out bag in-case of a zombie apocalypse. We had each kid bring a plain black shirt, and I provided laminated stencils of zombie faces, claw marks, bite marks etc... The kids created their own shirt at the program using bleach. I bought some packages of dried fruit, granola and nuts, then we let the kids create bags of energy mix. Basic first aid/survival stuff, like a box of cheap bandages divided up, small mirrors (for signaling), bottled water, bandanas and lengths of rope were provided. I was lucky enough to have someone from our local National Guard post come and talk to the kids about bug out bags and general survival stuff. He brought a great little handout that had tips. We also watched a few different YouTube videos that talked about bug out bags and played a group "Choose Your Own Adventure" game I had created. Basically, I let them fill a bag with 10 items (I had an array of items spread out on a table and they had to work together to choose ten for their bag), and then I ran them through different scenarios which required them to use what they had in innovative ways. The kids had a lot of fun.

Ok - so you're wanting to stick with the pieces you have. You said in another comment you're thrifty (me too!) and not wanting to spend much, so here's what I'd do:

Right now the dark pieces seem very harsh in the room. I'd embrace the theme of the natural wood accents, and tie in your black pieces by adding in some other natural textures! I was bored/procrastinating and did up a (very choppy) photoshop of what I would do with the space. Here you go! I edited out the clutter just for the sake of the design.

I'd love to see some sort of curtain (beaded?) in front of the vanity to make it feel like a more cohesive room. I think something like this would look really cool, although it's a bit pricy. This is more affordable. You could DIY the circles from the UO one if you like them, I'm sure!

I agree with the other poster about mounting the guitars to the wall and storing the stand.

I would make some dowel frames for your map, and hang it above the mirror. I'd also make a few smaller black and white cardstock prints at Staples (cost you about fifty cents or less per page), do the same with the frames, and stack them vertically along the space of the wall beside your closet door.

Are you crafty? You might be able to make a diffuser shade for your 'boob' light like these folks did.

I'd recommend going to Home Depot / Walmart etc and getting a couple more plants, and putting them in terra cotta pots (they're pretty inexpensive).

I would also get a few baskets and put them on the middle shelf of your bookshelf, to break up the lines and make it less overwhelming to look at.

I would get something for your makeup table to contain your makeup so it looks less cluttered.

Heres some pieces similar to what I photoshopped in that you could pick up on on a budget, but a lot of them could be thrifted if you like hunting!

Beaded Curtain

Lamp Shade

Guitar wall mounts

Linen textured curtains

Basket for makeup brushes

Baskets for shelf organization

I can't see what's going on in your bed area, but if you like my suggestions, I'd be happy to make more recommendations if you post a picture!

My mom has this one, it’s actually pretty nice. If you look through the related items there’s a few similar ones in different shapes.

I would go with behind the couch too. Get some cool navy cushions to match and I think it will look great! I would replace the turquoise lampshade though because that will clash with a dark blue wall. Just go for something simple for the shade, to contrast and complement.

The visible bulbs are the new G25 Hue Filament bulbs (the large globe shape).

The lamp fixtures are all arc lamps I’ve found on sale at Meijer in the past (both floor and table sizes). You can find similar ones at Target or Amazon for a bit more money, but Meijer is the only place I’ve found them with non-tapered drum shades. Edit: Amazon has several options with drum shades (though even higher prices, yikes).

The spherical wire cages are lamp shades from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DNKB7C4).

perhaps an adapter that just clips onto the bulb like this?

u/raisedgrooves · 189 pointsr/whatisthisthing

Those are called harp extenders. They are used to fit the lamp harp over the bulb, because the CFL bulb is longer than a normal lightbulb.

This is a lamp harp.

Habe einige Osram im Betrieb.

Amazon Basics und Lumare sollen auch gut sein.

Vor Ort gibt es gute von IKEA.

No, that's definitely a lamp shade. Similar to this one.

Not OP but I’ve done this before.
