Fellow hEDS, got married last July (pre-diagnosis), and I think I’ve got some ideas for you:

For the shoes, not sure where to look - I have really HUGE feel (size 12-13 women’s), so I struggled too, but ended up finding a cheap pair that looked great and kinda worked for me. They were tolerable but not comfortable, and I regret not focusing more time on finding a better pair.

For the registry, I’ve had really good luck with the OXO Good Grips series of stuff (their handles are chunky enough that I don’t tend to sublux my fingers, even gripping hard)

Yeah... don't get that other build. Last gen CPU that needs to be OC'd to realise its potential, a cooler that isnt compatible with your case, a turd tier PSU and no white in sight.

So that case you have isn't really the best, and if money is no object, there are far better available that might also look better and will be a lot more functional, as well as having more room for RGB fans. Nevertheless you said she's bought it so the build below assumes that you do want to use that case. It also assumes you are using the fans it comes with - so I'm not really sure where you want to add the extra corsair RGB fans. That case only has 3 fan slots - 2 front and 1 rear, and 1 front and the rear are already occupied with the fans it comes with.

• CPU - Very good CPU but not totally overkill, fast without overclocking, great for lots of multi tasking. 1600x over 1500x for the faster clock speed almost as much as the extra threads. I think this will be more future proof than something like a 7600 or 7700k while also not being overkill. But a CPU like that would be ok too, just not really necessary for her use case.
  
• Cooler - same as one from above but will actually fit in the case you've got. It's a 240mm radiator instead of 280mm.
  
• Mobo - Quality board, features etc. White accents and RGB lighting which can be set to purple. There are other motherboards where the whole board is white, but they dont have RGB LEDs. You may wish to go with one of those and then get some RGB LED strips for the case itself.
  
• RAM - Could be set to a nice white/purple setting. Honestly you really dont need ram this fast for your sister's usecase so you could happily drop to 2400 mhz and save a few bucks.
  
• Storage - changed the SSD to a better one given your 'money no problem' statement. If you were to change case to a case that you can display the SSD in I'd change this to a silver or white one.
  
• GPU - White with RGB LEDs. Perfect for what you want. However very hard to get your hands on. A GTX 1070 is itself slightly overkill as well for her use case... but it'd look great. If you can't find one, the only other white GPU is basically this one which is loud, lacks RGB but worst of all, it doesn't have a backplate so your looking at the black PCB all the time. • Fan - I'd move the rear stock fan to the front, and put the corsair fan at the back. Alternatively you could replace all the stock fans but at that point... Just get another case. 1. if you mean 20,000 a month like lump sum, id take the first month and just pay off the rest of my student loans, id have about 2/3 k left over and go buy my family members and I some nice things as its been a rough year. But if given as a weekly check over 4 weeks to equal 20,000 id do that exact same just have to budget it so it all works out.

Oh this is something ive been wanting to do for my bed room, I would say for the house but my mom wouldnt know how to work these buuuuutttttttt I want to spruce up my lighting situation with Philips Color Hue lights. Have one in my ceiling fan light, with one behind my tv, and control them due to a smart device such as iphone/siri, or amazon echo/alexa, google home ect... You can set moods and if youre playing a scary game you can set the lights to like blood red and just say " hey siri set the lights to scary time " and youll watch the lights change from your basic white to a blood red almost, or if youre in a romantic movie night with a lover have it be a nice not to bright pink and so on and so forth im sure you get the idea. heres a link for a nice starter bundle! NOTE Im not exactly sure how to set up the moods to where you tell a home assistant to do so cause i down own any yet but my friend has it and its amazing.

I can recommend the grow light I own, this 300W one, I love it to death honestly. I will warn you that the goose neck growlights also found on Amazon are not very powerful at all, they're usually what first comes up when you search for them so they're often bought. But many people on this subreddit don't recommend them because they're so weak. These types of bulbs (and these ones) will also work but usually need multiple pointed on the plants to achieve good results, a reflector/deflector usually helps with the bulbs, too. These lights also work very well but are rather large and work better for a bigger collection. Succulents can handle heat, not like super excessive but they will be fine in like even the 100's F as long as they're not being burnt to a crisp from the sun. It will just dry their soil out faster which isn't a bad thing honestly!

If you do move them outside make sure it's in the shade for the entire day, putting them into more intense light suddenly can burn them. They need to be introduced to more light gradually so they can become used to it slowly. This usually means an hour or two max in gentle morning sun before they're moved to a shadier place for the rest of the day and letting them get used to that schedule and amount of light for a few days before increasing the amount of light they receive and again letting them adjust to the new increase. It can be quite a hassle and there's much less need for it when putting them under growlights I've found, they don't burn they just get stress color very very fast. But even being out in the shade outside 24/7 will be much brighter than indoors even if it's still not enough light for them.

They will definitely feel loose, that's totally normal. Once they establish their roots into the soil better they'll be much sturdier. For now if you need to hold them up with stakes or some rocks around the base of the stems to keep them from falling out or being wobbly that's totally okay. They should feel more secure after their first watering but will still be somewhat wobbly.

Thanks everyone! I ended up going with the hue starter kit (http://amzn.com/B00BSN8DN4) for the lights. I'll add something like an August smart lock and the Nest thermostat down the road.

The suggestions that you pointed me to looked really cool, but honestly, they seem too complicated for me. I know some of them are as easy as copy and paste, but frankly, I've heard the same about flashing my android phone with OTA updates and that didn't exactly work out for me. I just don't have the time to devote to learning what would be necessary to get this done the way that I want to.

I just wanted to clarify, the Hue Tap switch can, in fact, have one of the its buttons assigned to a dimmer mode, via Hue Labs. It cycles through three levels of (adjustable) brightness. There are a handful of Android and iOS apps too, that can make the same assignment.

Also, the Hue Dimmer switch is just $25. Or $35 bundled with a white bulb.

Lastly, many don't realize this but the old Philips "LivingColors" remotes work perfectly fine (now) with Hue bulbs and hub.

And for less than $15 on Amazon or eBay, they're the cheapest (and actually most versatile) physical, light switches for a Hue system. You can even select the desired color right from the remote. Anyway, this will be a great gaming build, especially if you overclock, and the 6 core performs great for school!

Edit: and for GPU a 1070 ti will be perfect for steady 60FPS max settings 1440p gaming and it will bring your total to around $1400.

Hue sells many different configurations of the starter kit, with different amounts and types of bulbs. The cheaper one likely has fewed bulbs, and probably only white bulbs. Older kits can also be cheaper. My opinion is that if you're going to get smart bulbs that don't do color, then you're better of with smart switches. The Hue "white" bulbs are a really ugly yellow that I can't stand. White Ambiance is a nice middle ground, at half the cost of the color bulbs, while giving you full control over the "warmth" spectrum. So you can change your lighting to match the time of day, for instance.

This is the cheapest kit I see on Amazon.com. It's basically the cost of the bridge with 2 white bulbs. Then you have the non-refurb for slightly more. This one is still white bulbs, but now you have 4. This one is like the first kit, but with a dimmer switch. I recommend dimmer switches, as otherwise guests will use the wall switch, disabling your smart bulbs. Then you start getting into the white ambiance kits, this one with a dimmer and 2 bulbs. Finally the color bulb kits will be the most expensive.

So, what's right for you? Depends on what you want. Usually you want to buy the starter kit that has a "free bridge". Use the following price chart to determine the value of your kit:

• White bulb: $15 ea.
  
• White Ambiance bulb: $25 ea.
  
• White & Color Abiance bulb: $50 ea.
  
• Dimmer switch: $20 ea.
  
• Motion Sensor: $40 ea.
  
  If the kit costs the value of it's contents or less, it's worthwhile. If it costs more than that, you're paying for the bridge. Usually the cheaper kits will have you paying more for the bridge. By the time you get into the 4-color-pack range they're giving you a credit.
  
  Now, all that said, if your concern is cheap DO NOT BUY INTO HUE! It's extremely expensive, probably the priciest smart bulb. Ikea Tradfri and LiFX both have cheaper options that are similar in quality. Or if you really want cheap, go with Sengled. Hue is the premium option.

I'm quite fond of my TP-Link light bulbs. They don't require a hub, and work great with Alexa. I can control individual bulbs by assigning them a unique name. I named the main room in my apartment "lights", so I can just say "Alexa, Lights on." and it works.

They start at $20, and like I said, you don't need anything else. No hub or special switches or anything. You really can't go wrong with that price. You need to set them up with the Kasa app (from TP-Link) but then you can go into Smart Home setup and find the skill to make them work with Echo. Good luck!

One note, though: If you put them in a lamp with a three-way switch, leave it in the second position (not too dim, not too bright) and DO NOT switch it to #3. These will feedback and trip a breaker if you do that. They have a very specific amount of wattage/power they can handle, and going over that isn't supported. Otherwise, they work wonderfully.

And though it's not what I'd call "cheap", the Logitech Harmony Hub is quite affordable. That's also a great choice to get your smart home started.

The wattage should be fine. They're 12.5W but since they're LEDs their equivalent wattage output is 100W which is great. I used similar LED bulbs last winter with pretty comparable specs (12.5W, 6500K temp, 1550 lumens instead of 1520 though) and got really good results. My plants were also in a large south-facing window. These are the bulbs I used. Link is for the US site though.

I ran the lights 12 hours a day and had them about 2-3'' above my plants.

Also, here is what one of my Echeverias looked like after 3 weeks under one of these bulbs to give you an idea of how well they work. After those 3 weeks I put it outside in full-sun and the coloring hasn't changed much from what it was under the bulb (even after several months outside in full-sun) so I'd say it's a pretty good light.

Generally speaking, you have to pick either a smart bulb or a smart dimmer, but not both. The reason is that a smart bulb needs to get clean power and a dimmer is designed to chop up the sine wave so in order to fix the flickering issue, you'd have to replace the ancient rotary dimmer that you have with a $1 switch and just leave it on all the time and use the app or whatever to control the light.

Lutron very recently came out with a nifty little product called the Aurora which gives you the best of both worlds by leaving the switch on all the time and adding a virtual rotary which will communicate with the Hue bulbs however so if that's your only switch, this is a nice option.

If you have a lot of switches, I highly suggest you stop using smart bulbs and just replace your dimmers and switches with smart dimmers. Lutron's Caseta is a great system for that.

I've done a little bit of research with LED strips, and the ones that have caught my attention in particular are the Cablemod ones (already linked), the NZXT Hue and Hue+, and the Bitfenix Alchemy. They're all from reputable companies and have good quality, it just depends what features and price you're looking for. The Hue+ is probably the most popular RGB lighting kit right now but it's pricey. The Hue is cheaper but only has adhesive foam instead of magnets (harder to move around and messier) and is meant for a 5.25" bay on your case, and is manually adjusted with the knobs on front. The Cablemod strips and the Bitfenix strips aren't controllable- they're just a color that is constantly on, I believe, but good quality. The Cablemod ones in particular are supposedly super bright, I've heard. As long as the features and price are alright with you I think you'd be okay with any of them, honestly.

Uh, 30cm and 60cm are 30 centimeters and 60 centimeters...

A more focused on 'workstation' tasks, but you'll still easily play games like Overwatch on ultra 60+ fps at 1080p with a 1050ti.

The E5 1230 is very similar to an i7 6700, but without integrated graphics (which won't matter). 32gb's of memory might be a bit overkill, but if you plan on having the entire Adobe suite open at the same time it'll help. Another thing that will help a lot is the 950 PRO, it's expensive but damn it's fast. I suggest you install your OS and software there and store your projects / games on the 2tb hdd i included. The case isn't anything special, but it's white and it has a Window. If you're looking for LED's, a cheap option would be DeepCool's magnetic rgb strips for $20, or you can go all out and get the NZXT Hue + for $60.

It's maxing out your budget at $1000, but gives a pretty powerful workstation.

We also really enjoy the lighting in our bedroom. They are Phillip Hue colored bulbs and flameless candles

So I have a two bedroom apartment and I've got a mix of the bulbs, the Hue Gos and the light strips.

I don't use any non-Hue lighting so all of my light is controllable via app and timers. It allows you to create presets, so I have a number of lighting schemes that I really like that get progressively dimmer over the course of an evening and move from brighter colors like greens and oranges and yellows to soft blues and reds and purples as it gets later. It kind of becomes a Pavlovian cue that sleep time is coming. You can also set them on timed transitions - so it may take 30 minutes to slowly transition between the settings. So the light can be always moving slowly into differing colors and brightnesses schemes over the course of the evening.

In the mornings, rather than use an alarm clock, I wake to a gradually rising indoor sunrise where warm orange lights come up over the course of 30 minutes. Such a pleasant way to wake up. Gradual and natural instead of sudden and abrupt.

It's also super cool with voice control via Alexa, Siri, Google Home, etc. I just say things like 'Alexa, chill mode' and the lighting hits a smooth preset I have.

The stuff is expensive, but you can add pieces over time to the network. They are energy efficient and so far have lasted really well. I've not had any fail in 3 or 4 years of using them. I started off just wanting a lightstrip and ended up going whole house.

Life changing.

There's 2 different ways you can go, bulbs and switches.

With Hue lights you'll need to leave the switch on at all times. You can turn the switch off and the lights will go off, but then they have no power so you can't control them with your phone/voice. If you get Hue lights, I recommend leaving the switch on (I taped it so it can't be turned off, but you can get nice covers) and get a Hue dimmer https://www.amazon.com/Philips-458158-Dimmer-Switch-Amazon/dp/B014H2OYVW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478811979&sr=8-1&keywords=hue+dimmer It works like a regular switch and works really well, you can even program different scenes based on the button press duration or number of presses.

But if you have a room with a lot of bulbs, it can be expensive to buy individual smart bulbs. In this case, you can get a smart switch, I think most work on Z-Wave. You will need a Hub to connect with the switch, either SmartThings or something more DIY like Home Assistant, and once you have a Hub you can control the light with your voice, phone, or through the regular manual switch.

These feel sort of low-budget, but are very flexible in terms of application. Installation is part of the fun here. Start with a Hitlights 300 RGB - $30 (this recently dropped in price from $40) or a 150 kit Get as many of these are you think he'll want, depending on the space available. A 16-foot run of 300 will light up a small room. The 150s are more for accent lighting.

For each additional run, he'll want an amplifier if he needs them all controlled by one controller. You also need a power adapter for each amplifier, but this is included in each of the $25-30 kits. You can cut and splice them, but it's much easier and neater if you have the pre-made connectors - short strip-to-strip short strip-to-terminator or long terminator-to-terminator. I did my first round of installations without the connectors and it was pretty messy, so I strongly recommend getting them to ease things along.

Great work! I was a little surprised that Wink isn't on there. For $35 the 1st gen hub is a great entry point for beginners as a Zigbee/Z-Wave radio. I used Wink's built in automations (Robots) to get started while getting HA up and running. It's easy to turn Wink into a "dumb" hub once you get HA all figured out, then you can look into dedicated radios for HA to take Wink out of the picture completely. Wink can be a little slow at times, but it is a great low cost entry point.

You also might want to add Sengled Element bulbs and Sylvania Smart+ color bulb, they are inexpensive and work extremely well!

For individual RGB LEDs (or small RGB clusters like these), I use the bottlecaps from Vitamin Water or similar brand drinks. They are like Gatorade bottlecaps but clear translucent plastic instead of opaque orange. Put on top of an RGB and it will provide nice diffusion without absorbing too much light. This isn't exactly what you're asking but it may be helpful to someone else :)

I have not used these bulbs but have had good experiences with TP-Link smart plugs and switches. I see 14% of 636 Amazon reviews are 1 or 2 stars, which is typical of many similar smart devices. WiFi (and other RF connection types) can be problematic and subject to interference. Here is a quote from the manufacturer in response to a reviewer whose bulbs frequently lost connection:

Lights: The Philips Hue Starter Kit would be great because it supports the Google Assistant which works with the Google Home & Homekit which works with Siri. I got the iHome ISP6X Wi-FI Smart Plug for the same reason.

TV: Make sure you keep the Chromecast plugged into the wall if you want it turn the TV on & off. This feature won't work it's plugged into the TV's USB. Also get the 2nd generation.

Speakers: The Google home & Chromecast audio works great together especially if you want multi room support.

I've got a pretty fun set up in my Sunroom

Lights: some basic string lights, and a couple Ikea MAGNARP lamps plugged into some iHome Smart Plugs, along with Hue Full color bulbs in the ceiling with a Hue Dimmer Switch

The dimmer switch can not control anything but Phillips Hue bulbs but I wanted to use it to set a scene that turned on the string lights and lamps so I set the second press of the dimmer switch to turn the hue lights to a 1% brightness.
From within the Elgato Eve App I set an automation triggered by the Hue lights being set to 1% that turns the lamps and string lights on.

Fans:

It can get pretty hot in the sunroom in the summer with a lot of activity from booth the people and the cat in the house. So I set up a system with Eve Room Sensor, Eve Door Sensor (used on windows) and iHome Smart Plugs to automate 2 fans set up in windows on opposite sides of the room. The Room sensor tracks the air quality and if it is low the fans will kick on, as long as the windows are open, (tracked by door sensor)
when the quality is good again, the fans turn off automatically, and they don't turn on while the string lights are on, since they are kinda loud.

Unfortunately our AC unit has a NEMA 6-15P plug so its not compatible with HomeKit.

Generally it's indicated in the name, for example the wireless version of that motherboard is called "Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI)" Other motherboards will have "AC" in their name, lots of higher end boards also just come with it, but you will have to check the product pages on them.

If there's a built in mount to the case you can do it, but with risers like this one you can't do it with mATX or ATX.

I double checked compatibility and clearance, if you like the look of the Kraken you can get the x52 which is 240mm and top mount it. It will clear the memory with that motheboard. I don't particularly like the performance of top mounted 240mm AIOs as it's no better than the large air coolers I mentioned in my previous comment, but it's an option if you like the look.

These are the "white" lights. They only dim the intensity - there is no color changing functionality. They cannot shift the color temperature of "white" either.

They are perfectly good bulbs in the right spot. I have them in my kitchen.

If you are after the... lets call it "hue experience", you will want the equivalent of the color starter. The white ambient (white ambient starter) is what I find myself using most often. The white ambient lights can't change to blue or red - but it can change to a very warm or very cool white... which I find more useful for living spaces.

Personally I use a wink hub and have quite a few GE lights. They recently went up in price and so I found a light on amazon (Sengled ) that works pretty well with my wink hub. I also have a smart plug for my 5 light lamp as I didn't want to pay for 5 bulbs.

This computer is something I've wanted to do for a long time, and I actually didn't plan on doing LED lights with this computer. I always thought they were gimmicky (which they kinda are, but dammit I'm bought in)

Anyway, if you have a computer you want lit up, with good software to control different modes, and colors, to shockingly precise detail then check out the nzxt hue+ thing is pretty cool.

When I built this computer I had bought the nzxt aer fans, not knowing that you needed the hue + to use them. So I purchased the hue+ afterwards, and it came with these LED strips, which I used to have the aqua color in the computer. The fans are the orange color.

Because this computer is using 4 LED strips and 8 fans it actually required 2 Hue + units, but as I said as gimmicky as it is, I became a little kid when I saw my computer light up, and I was sold. I bought another and immediately thought it'd be sweet to get some aqua and orange by my computer.

I’m using the CableMod Vertical PCI-e Bracket . I wasn’t able to get the new vertical GPU bracket by Lian Li made for the Dynamic XL. But this one works just fine, easy installation.

Although I have read that with the CableMod bracket with the original O11 Dynamic case, you won’t be able to install the 3 bottom fans because of how the bracket is situated.

Cooler Master Vertical GPU Mount this mount allows you to install a vertical GPU and also install the 3 bottom fans, from what I have read. Hope this helps!

I don't know of floods that are white only for hue, at least not that I've seen.

You would want the hue switch which is programmable to do different scenes, and it's rather easy to set up and is very responsive. You only need one switch to control multiple bulbs.(link to switch)

And remember you need some kind of hub to control the hue bulbs.

I completely agree with the general sentiment that this is a stupid change to force on users.

If I was to guess, Google's reacting to bad press from Nest owners who had their cameras watched after their accounts were compromised. A better way to handle the fear of someone watching your cameras without your knowledge:

1. Popup notifications on any phone with the Nest camera app whenever cameras are viewed.
   
2. Make the change to disable the status light be protected by some form of 2FA, like with an SMS code. Now if your account password gets compromised, the attacker still cannot change your cameras LED setting.
   
   Luckily, I had some LightsDim Black Out stickers (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009WSN8PK/ref=dp_cerb_3) on hand when my cameras LEDs got turned on. I recommend them, they cover the LED great and blend completely into the Nest cameras.

NZXT Hue+ will set you back around £50 and some cheap RGB strip will set you back around £11. I personally use the cheap kit I linked above and it works fine but it's very basic - best to use if you just want one static colour - the effets it comes with are pretty basic and not very well done imo...

I like to have these pointed at artwork as it makes the colors change quite dramatically.

I use both of those and just a mess of christmas lights. It's a good base to start with, then you can jump into the more fun stuff. I really want to get a mini light rig like they have for concerts. It would be fun to be "the light guy" at home.

Tons. If you're looking for ready-made lights, Finnex makes some great options. It also depends on the depth to the substrate. The Finnex Stingray is 30 PAR at 12", same with the Current Freshwater Plus, the Stingray being much less expensive. I would suggest using two 24" on either side. You could use a single 48" light, since it's LED and won't nuke the plastic.

Alternatively, these fixtures are cheap, and you can use bulbs like this. You can either set them on top of your glass top, or hang them. Very cheap, very good lighting.

I use the Phillips Hue lighting system. Pricey, but awesome.

And they've got some other new options as well. Very cool stuff.

Our baby isn't here yet, but we are experimenting with colored LED bulbs that are operated by remote in our regular bedside lamps. They are dimmable and can be changed to lots of colors. The orange/yellow setting isn't overly bright, but is enough to get things done. So far I love this system and I think it'll work well when baby arrives! If that card is heavy enough to warp itself like that, you should install the bracket (hopefully came with the card) if not you can find the one I use for my dual card setup (also works with single cards)

While hooks and dental floss may work temporarily the do not have the same support evenness(?) Means you are pulling up on the end and not supporting the whole card.

If you have around 8 inches above your tanks, I think the home depot clamp lights with some generic 6500k led bulbs do a great job, plus it's pretty cheap and easy to add more or less lighting depending on your needs. I used a dremel to cut off the diffuser on mine, and I think it makes a difference in how strong the lighting is.

Pink themes are hard to find unfortunately so I went with all black but with this (https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Computers-Accessories/NZXT-Colour-Changing-Internal-Controller/B018YZ0H1O/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1487802148&sr=8-6&keywords=hue%2B) you can have as many pink leds as you want! If you can hold off buying until early march then do so and see what Ryzen has to offer. Other wise this should be it! If you don't need fancy or good quality, don't get Hue. Hue is slow to react to music, and you should look at something that has the sensor for sound built right into the controller PCB.

You mentioned future proofing and the Ti does that for sure, it's up to you but I'd find a way. Also I'd recommend getting the coolest all black case you can afford and buying some green lighting for it separately. Bitfenix has some LED strips in different colors you can get on Amazon pretty cheap. Or you can buy the Hue+ and change the color to literally what ever you want depending on your mood at that time. More expensive though for sure. If you ever get tired of green there's no going back when you buy a case that accents it for you lol.

Lightdims are pretty convenient. I got them from ThinkGeek like 4 or 5 years ago, but you can get them on Amazon too.

$5 seems like a lot for basically some stickers, but they work so well, and I've yet to run out. I really like it dark when I sleep, so these are a must.

Right now I'm using a cheap digital timer and a daylight spectrum bulb (http://www.verilux.com/full-spectrum-lightbulbs/compact-fluorescent-cfl/). It works well, but will look into these dimmable ones.

There are standard E27 screw in RGB LED bulbs that have wifi/bluetooth support and color/brightness fading for ~$35 on aliexpress. But I can't find any which give examples of timers and if they support dimming or just on/off times in the software.

I have a NZXT Hue+. Right now has Outrun themed colors. I can easily change the colors when I feel like I need something fresh. Sometimes I just have them set to white, sometimes I change them to fit the holiday, sometimes I do different game themes, or sometimes I just set it to a color that fits my mood. The outrun color scheme is that main one I stick with though.

This is the new version of the Hue.

Edit: You can turn them off. I see so many anti-RGB elitists. One of the things I see come up often is that the lights can be annoying at certain times (though personally they haven't annoyed me at all). If you set the color to black, it's just like having no lights at all.

I use these for secondary mood lighting (they aren't strong enough on their own) and the remotes that come with will work on all the bulbs and not just one. My buddies have their house filled with them and velcro'd a remote near each light switch.

In my experience you can usually find a 4 pack on sale for cheaper than buying 4 individual bulbs or even 2 2-packs.

Currently on Amazon a single bulb is $46.95 ($187.80) & the 2-pack is currently $89.99 ($179.98).

A 4-pack with the hub (which you could eBay or save for future use) is currently running $180.16 which is actually more expensive than I have seen in a few months. Lately they have been around $160 (I actually paid $146 in June).

So with the current pricing on a 4-pack you get an extra hub for .18¢ . IMO, a 4 pack is usually the way to go.

I'd do something novel with suspension from above.....but I've got a horizontal motherboard in the HAF XB case.

I've looked into such vertical GPU mounts before for the sake of something novel(gpu laying fan-side up in my case) and I keep coming to the same issue, awkward cabling / plugs.

The only way around it that I see would be to cut into the case to allow for this from Cooler Master or something like it for full access to the back of the card and to use normal cables.

Not sure if your case would need cutting, but most have bars or slats between/under the PCIE covers.

I don't have super helpful advice as I don't have the space for a large collection. I use my lights year around, tho I truck my plants outside as much as possible during the summer.

And I just pop one into a desk lamp, which is plugged into this automatic timer.

The timer does have a slight learning curve to it, but it's so nice to have something that does all the work of turning my light off and on.

The bulbs are great and cheap. I usually rotate my plants closer and further away every other day or so. I find if I leave them directly under it (about 5-6 inches away) for too many days, they will skip right thru pretty stress to ugly stress. In the dark depths of winter, I might pull out my red and blue light gooseneck as a supplement to make me feel better, but I really don't think I'll need it, and that usually has to be within 2-3 inches tops to be any good.

The XLS DriveCore 2 series amps look pretty good for a professional amplifier. The backlight can be disabled in the menu which just leaves two indicator lights that can easily be covered by electrical tape. The Crown K2is a little dated now but has a clean look.

Well, with normal RGBs it would be a virtual button in your PC you need to press.

If you want a physical button you can get something like this which comes with a remote. For changing to super saiyan it would be two button presses though, one for the color to yellow and one to set it to flicker/breathing.

Something like this may also be helpful then. It hasn't been out long and hopefully they will be restocking it. You also have this one which is more specific to Cooler Master cases but you could mod it to fit differently if you cut a side panel. Brackets just might make things easier for you.

You are correct, it does need a hub. /u/Wintonson you can buy the bulbs in a kit with the hub or you can buy the hub standalone. I have some of these and they work pretty great for my purposes. There is an API so if you’re a coder you can control them through code, some applications such as f.lux are compatible, you can control them with Apple HomeKit/from your phone, etc.

Do note that they’re not all RGB. They also sell ones which are shades of white only. You need the White + Color “Ambiance” ones to do like the OP. The one you linked as well as the ones I linked are the right kind.

The Echo Plus (2nd Gen at least) can also work as a hub for them, so if you happen to have that anyway then you don’t need the standalone hub, but I don’t have one and can’t speak towards how well that works.

Here’s the color kit I have. If you look at the product info and comparison table you’ll see the variations. If you see the color kit for less than $180-199 then most likely it’s a seller offloading older stock. They’re up to gen four on the bulbs now and the color reproduction gets better and better so I recommend getting the new stock.

Are you saying that you want to keep the 3 different switches plus have the fourth which is a master (3-way) switch for all three? Complicated. Think you'd have to do what u/Reeeph suggests below, but that means getting three sets of wires between the master switch and each of the other 3. Likely a PIA unless you have easy attic or crawlspace access to all four points.

If you just want one switch to control them all there's a simple solution. Remove all three switches (open up, remove the switch and tie the wires together, cover up with a blank plate). Then put Hue lightbulbs in each, and get a Dimmer Switch:

For my apartment, I you utilize two solutions to almost solve this problem. Neither one is perfect but for controlling rooms with only hue bulbs I use the hue dimmer switch. Those work nicely because the plate they come with is about the right size to replace a regular switch, but they only control Hue bulbs. For other rooms that have other lighting solutions, I have attached some Aeon Minimotes to the wall. Also, no true switch that I know of will do what you're saying - keep the line hot but send a zigbee signal to turn off. They'll all cut the power. Even smart ones.

If it is anything like this, then it has multiple LEDs inside of it. Purple is just the red and blue LEDs both active simultaneously. To fade to red, they blue LED slowly dims until turning off, effectively fading to red

I have some CableMod WideBeam Magnetic RGB LED Strips, and I'm wondering if they are capable of doing something like this and having the colors cycle through the strip (instead of the entire strip cycling together).

If I was to purchase something like the NZXT Hue+ would I be able to do that with my RGB strips?

  Now, cut the plugs off one side of the lights and off the power supply. Match the wires up on the Dresden ballast with RGB+ on the LEDs. Carefully strip away the outer shielding on the power supply cord and then strip the tiny wires on the inside of the power supply wire. Put those into the power screw points on the Dresden. Plug it in and test. It should come on a solid color.
  
  Now that you have it working, go into your Hue app and scan for new lights. You will see 2 lights pop up for every Dresden ballast you configure. Once it's done scanning, click them in the app and make sure they flash. One of them will NOT flash and you can safely delete that one.
  
  That's it!

The included app lets you program the bulb on a schedule, such as 50% brightness at 7am and then 100% brightness at 5pm or whatever.

In my room I have this setup; my PC is connected to an A/V Receiver that goes to TV out, a usb infrared mce sensor (not this one), a logitech harmony 650 universal remote and a kit of philliphs hue lights for software I use eventghost and ScreenBloom to give a touch of ambiance to the room, with all things set up I just press one button on the harmony remote and it turns on the A/V receiver, tv, run the ScreenBloom app to fade the lights and opens steam in big picture, I also have some shortcuts for the SC Chord button to control the lights while gaming.

although I don't know if it would work if you stream your PC to TV with Steamlink or the like, since my setup is for a PC that is directly attached to and in proximity of your TV.

I'm sure black tape is still nice to carry, but there are several lines of stickers (or static stick-ons) for the express purpose of dimming or blocking LEDs. I've used the 80% LightDims around my entertainment setup and been happy. Another company sells sheets so you can cut custom shapes. I saw both on Amazon.

If you're willing to spend ~$14, this is a pretty solid solution. I own it and am happy with it.

I use these bulbs in clip on light fixtures over my fish tanks which are stocked full of live plants. I've also kept some of my house plants in close proximity to them and they seem to enjoy the light as well. From what I've read, you're looking for a 6500K "daylight" bulb. 6500K is the frequency that will grow plants and although many growlights are purple that's not necessary from in my experience. Keep in mind, this is just what I've come across and different people have different experiences plus this might not create the explosive growth of designated "growlights." But if you're looking for a bulb you can stick in a regular light socket on a lamp, this is the kind of thing I'd look for.

If you want to go cheap these work nice I have a pair in a IKEA floor lamp it also gives me the dimming ability as well.

I've been using these for some time now. Very reliable & pretty cheap. You will need some kind of smart hub though.

Now that Amazon has built-in a Hue compatible hub into the new Echo, you can start using Hue bulbs without buying the Phillips hub. Maybe other IoT voice hubs will do this too. So I think the hub is trending downward for basic users. Although I don't think the mini hubs like Echo Dot have it, so maybe not.

it'll be ordered separately, i believe something like this or this will be what you're looking for. cablemod makes em, as well. it's a bit of an added cost so you don't have to do it of course, but to get the maximum of your GPU aesthetics i think it's a neat idea.

Dont be silly you arent bothering me, i like to help out where i can, the hue+ is actually the name of the controller box that the leds plug into, in the kit you get 4 led strips, the hue+ controller and all the cables/ extensions (it uses sata or molex, (i can't remember to be honest) to power it and connects to the motherboard via the usb 2.0 header

Even with the much thinner heatsink on my 1080 Strix card, it was sagging after a few months. It happens little by little so you won't notice it at first, and the PCB and backplate can get a slight bend over time from the weight.


You can get a cheap GPU brace on Amazon for like $10-20. There's 2 styles, one is a more discreet bracket arm and the other is a sturdier kickstand kinda thing. I went for the discreet one personally because I didn't want it to show much. There's different brands with different looks btw, those are just an example of each style. Also some people get creative and use Lego figures and stuff as a stand.

MY thoughts on LB100:
the listing seems to be a lie unless they updated the bulb, lb100 and 110 are just yellow, not white....

LB 120: I absolutely LOVE this one (with tunable white - Because I really like white light, not sure why, but it's just what I'm used)

LB 130: the colors are cool, but if you are looking for WHITE light, this is NOT for you because you can never get a true white out of it unlike the LB120.

I use a product called LightDims to help reduce LED glare around my house, they have a blackout series (Amazon Link) which may fit the camera and look a bit cleaner than electrical tape.

I'm tellin' you guys, invest in a nice NZXT Hue+, it'll change your life. Make it easier too!

Yes, SmartThings could certainly do this... personally, I have a timer set up for a heater in my bathroom. Once I turn on the heater, the timer turns it back off after 45 minutes.

However, I'm not sure you NEED SmartThings to accomplish this... I think you probably need to just purchase a smart plug or smart bulb that is compatible with Stringify. It looks like the TP-Link Smart Plug is compatible, or if you just want to buy a lamp, the TP-Link LB100 is listed on Stringify's website.

The nice thing about doing a lamp is that you get dimming, so you can have it slowly dim up in the morning when the alarm goes off, or dim it to a low level if you need to get up in the middle of the night.

Personally, I've never used stringify, but looking at some of their flow examples, I see no reason it can't do exactly what you're looking for with the purchase of compatible equipment!

Nzxt hue+ does things like pulses to the music with the cam software. I've only seen it inside cases before though but you could technically use it on your desk with some creative thinking/planning.

For lights, I definitely recommend Hue! I've had color bulbs in and on almost constantly for about 3 years and haven't had to replace them yet. • Don't bother with the vengeance RAM sticks. They light up, but with RGB fans and a $20 RGB LED strip, you'll have more than enough light.

The dimmer is pretty pricey and specifically made for Hue lights.
