Anywho. You'll want at least two discs, a driver and a putter. It might be easy to start with a "fairway driver." Here's a good starter pack on Amazon. You might also consider checking out 42 Degrees South in L5P. It's mostly a smoke shop, but they have a decent selection of discs too.

Perkerson Park - It's the only one ITP, and it's really pretty. They recently added a bunch of signage and new tees, and they keep it in good shape. But it's tough for a beginner. You might want to start out on...

Redan Park - It's a few miles East OTP, but not too far away

JP Moseley - I haven't been since they redesigned it, but it's apparently very impressive now. 27 holes, one of the highest rated courses in Georgia, but slightly farther away than I'd usually want to travel (40 minutes from my house).

There are other courses around too, such as Deer Lick Park, but Perkerson and Redan are my go-to two.

I bought a Disc Golf basket for my friend that was visiting. He lives out of state, and once a year he'll come down after visiting family for the holidays. Usually around the first couple weeks of January.

I bought a basket for myself in December and he mentioned he was going to try and save for a few months and hopefully buy one in the summer. I make pretty good money working in IT so I bought him one too.

He's back home now and sends me pics of it in the snow in his backyard super happy. It's always a good feeling to make someone feel happy.

I don't sleeve them. The cards are pretty good quality and you aren't shuffling them, so I didn't feel it was necessary to sleeve them.

I have each fighter's cards, standee and token in its own clear plastic Ultra-pro card box (the slim ones: http://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Pro-25count-2-Piece-Plastic/dp/B0002TT3KM). They fit everything perfectly and everything fits well in the box that way. Regular deck boxes, while good are just a little too big. Although you could use them for some of the extra tokens and such.

I also believe there is a file for tuckboxes on BGG that you can print and make for every fighter. That was a little too much work for me, to be honest. But they're pretty cool if you want to spend the time doing that.

I'm all about this bag. Sure the DD sniper is the same price, but this one has 6 side mesh pockets. I never knew how much I would love that. It makes grabbing the discs really easy. You can get about 3 discs into each pocket (although most times I had 2 in each unless they were drivers).

So what do they do with all that room in the actual bag compartment, well, you could store EXTRA discs in there or you could make use of the fact that it's lined and load that bad boy up with beer and ice. At the top of the bag (near the handle) there is a deep can pocket which holds tallboys oh so nicely. It's also perfect for holding my Bluetooth speaker! There are additional pockets on the bag to stash some gear in.

Seriously, I loved this bag (past tense because it got stolen with about 22 discs in it). I had room for all the discs I needed, a 6 pack, my speaker, a couple bottles of water, some food, a sweatshirt/jacket and pretty much anything else I wanted to bring with me. I never had a problem with it's comfort and it sat nice and square.

Amazon, Walmart, and some of the other big box stores sell them online.

In-person purchases are trickier. I've had luck with internet searching local disc golf stores but there are definitely areas where they really don't exist. Party stores, gas stations, media stores - it's weird who sells them and who doesn't.

Premium discs run about $15 a pop. Base discs around $8. There is a very real difference in the quality of the plastics here. A lot of people recommend DX plastic to start with because it's cheaper and easier to throw. Personally I found they went to crap waaaaay too quickly - big gouges and scrapes pretty much from the start.

This set is pricier, but you'll use it forever. Plastic is darn near indestructible and they are useful discs at several play levels - you'll need an arm for the volt though.

Personally though, I'd probably piecemeal one together for a starter kit. A 175g Judge Classic, 170+ E-Mac Truth, 170+ Neutron Switch or Lucid River, and then a light 150g driver like an Opto Air Diamond maybe.

It's an awesome hobby. Check out /r/discgolf for more. But watch out for those guys. They will have you thinking you need to buy 10 discs a year. You don't.

Any specific starter kits you recomend? I have been thinking about picking up the 3 disc starter pack on amazon, but the 5 and 8 disc have two of the discs you mentioned ( Valkyrie and Shark).

Money is a little tight right now, but I can put off getting a set if saving for the 5 or 8 disc is worth it. What would you recommend?

Also looking to hopefully get some friends into this. They prob won't have their own discs to start. Would I be better off getting 5 or 8 discs to play with 2-3 people?

UltraPro makes a passable zippered quad row binder but the card pockets are generously sized if you're just looking to Perfect Fit your cards, but they are taut enough to be kept in the pocket (they just might slip to an off center position).

Ultimate Guard makes quality binders, I don't personally have one of the zippered Quad Row models but the Professor has a positive review of them. If you're not 100% fixated on the zippered aspect I'd definitely check out Dex Protection's 12-pocket binders, they're very high quality; I have 8.

bestdiscgolfdiscs.com suggests a Valkyrie, Roc, and Aviar for 3 discs. They do use Amazon Pay but you can't use a gift card for that, which is why I assume you specify Amazon.

The problem with buying a set is they're just going to give you what ever they have but it will be cheaper than buying individually.

This Innova Set is decent, The TeeBird is my favorite Innova fairway drive and one of the best all around discs and it has a recommended Roc. I can't say anything about the Rhino but I think when you're starting out putters don't matter much. A similar Innoa Set This one is Leopard, Roc, and Aviar. So maybe this is a little safer as most players will agree that Roc and Aviar are solid discs. Then maybe throw in a GStar Valkyrie and you're just over $40 but you've got some solid discs.

This set of 4 Discraft goes right up to your budget but there's no listing of discs so it's a gamble. In the photo you see a Nuke which is a horrible disc for beginners.

This DGA set Is notable because they're all 150 class discs. Lighter discs can be good for absolute beginners but if you did play a little and can throw then light discs might be more of a burden. It all depends on your arm speed, I'd probably suggest this more for women and children. The Squall is a great beginner mid and the Reef is a solid putter. In normal plastic I'd say the Rogue is not good for beginners but being so light it might work.

This one is a bit rough. As I'm sure a lot of GM's don't really wish to just purchase a metric ton of minis, paint them and store them for their limited and exact use. Personally I have found a few... Cheaper alternatives.

1. Magic the Gathering cards. Sounds a bit silly but follow me. Hole punch the image out, some filler, glue them together and you get a sorta carboard-ish token with really nice art on it. And cheap as all god damn hell as I bought a box of 2k cards for ~$25.
   
   
2. 3D print that stuff. I know most folks may not have one available, but if you do you can print off some pretty great stuff for use.

I have purchased this bag recently and I love it. My friend got an upper park designs bag around the same time and I believe mine is just as durable as his will be years from now. Nice looking discs, and good choices too, but if you're just starting out, these discs might be a bit frustrating to throw. It might do you well to leave these at home for a bit, and pick up a starter kit (like this one by Innova, or this on by Discraft) or just a midrange like the Discraft Buzzz. Learning how to drive with a midrange or putter is one of the best ways to develop good form and work up your arm speed before moving up to fairway and distance drivers! :)

This starter set will get you off to a great start and will be the best discs for you long-term if you decide to stick with it.

The /r/discgolf community is great overall especially for new players wanting to ask questions.

I'm a little confused as to whether it has 2 carbon layers myself, although it states it's an all wood blade if you look at the picture from the amazon site I bought it on, you can see the black layers. If not carbon, what are they? The paddle they sent me also has a mauve/purple sponge on the black rubber and a slightly thinner (guessing 2mm) thick yellow sponge on the slower red rubber side. Have you ever played with one? Or maybe you got taken-in like me, by its sales/marketing pitch. I've played over 500hrs with it over the space of around 30mnths, tried many other paddles and I can truthfully say it is definitely not a beginner bat.

Perhaps you can explain to me what the Palio Expert properties are and what it has that makes this bat a slow controllable beginner bat, maybe comparing its weight, number of plies, characteristics of blade ie, types and thickness of its plywood or anything that can be relied upon to make (comparable to a budget fast blade) it one of the slowest blades available.

Same with its CJ8000 rubbers, which incidentally come in 3 different thicknesses I believe, with even more variations of sponge thickness and hardness. Can you tell me with absolute certainty that with these rubbers on that blade, will give a beginner a realistic chance to have good control? because it won't.

Although i've built foam risers before to great success, If you want more flexibility, Ultra Pro Deck Boxes + the like are very useful.

I think that could work well for you. Aviar is a great putter (what I started with); Shark I've never used but seems like it would be good as a disc you know will finish left; Leopard I still use a lot.

If not, I also would second getting an Aviar and a Champ Mako3. I bought a couple Mako3s when starting and used them exclusively for a couple months. I still play 2 disc rounds with them from time to time to practice form and shaping.

I'm assuming you bought this set back then. For a forehand(flick) throw I would pick up an Innova Orc, preferably one in Champion plastic. This is the first disc I owned and I would get beautiful s-curves out of my flick. here is a link to one. Champion plastic is super durable and will not get destroyed by hitting trees. Read up on some of the discs on that site I linked too, it has some decent insight on which discs do what.

I’ve owned this for nearly seven years and never damaged a card or the machine. I prefer this to sleeving because, well, I don’t want to sleeve cards in a bunch of games I own when I can use this!

Everything all together was around $50.

We cut the planet tray out of the rest of the tray with a box knife, and we put the strategy cards atop one of the stacks of planets. The victory track we ended up moving to the top of the race boxes so it would lay flat. Other than that, the books and stuff sit on top of everything, and the box closes up no problem. It's considerably heavier than before due to all the added plastic, of course, but it's looking like cleanup and set up will be much easier with this method because all anybody will need to grab is their color box and their race box. Hope this helps!

While you may not be pricing the cards, using the pricing guide on tcgplayer.com is a good place to start organizing specific sets. It can also give you a general market value for all conditions as you are organizing. If you see the market value on a specific card is much higher than others in the set, you should consider protecting that one with penny and hard sleeves(or depending on the card, perhaps more than that). If you are going to store your cards in binders, i recommend these sleeves for inside sleeves and these sleeves for the outside soft sleeve prior to putting in a binder like this or like this.

As for buying discs? Just buy a very stable, bright colored driver and a putter on amazon. You really only need 2-3 discs starting out.

When you learn to throw and place the discs where you want them then you’ll begin to notice how different discs have different flight paths, you’ll use that like you would a different club in golf for different situations. But buy a cheap set because you’ll beat up your discs (beat up discs become understable) and probably lose a couple in the time it takes to build up the skills you will need to utilize a good disc.

Don’t forget to write your number and an email on your disc, if you lose it then people typically reach out to try and get it back to you.

CCDG has a great instructional video about how to use them from top pros.

Alternatively, go to proshop.innovadiscs.com and try to build your own starter pack. http://i.imgur.com/C7tcFsb.png would be my suggestions bases on what they have atm. True starter packs will be more likely to be 150g, but since you are used to ultimate you will be used to 175g-ish discs. Aero and Shark will be good transitions from lids to discs, and Leopard is in a slightly better plastic because you will want to hold onto it longer.

I have the grip clone bag $100 on amazon, and it is not bad at all. Right now grip is having a sale and it looks like B15's are only 154 shipped, so spending the extra $54 might not be a bad idea to get the actual thing from them. The only real difference I see, is the flap has a pocket that can hold a disc, and it comes with a rain fly, but doesn't have the towel clips. I have had mine since March and it seems to hold up well, and can even be loaded down with a decent number of discs. If it fits in your budget, I saw go for the real thing, reputable company with a warranty, and you know it will be well made. There are so many bags out now hope this helps in decision.

I don't know if the one I had as a kid was name brand or not, but it was pretty much the same. I had so much fun with that thing, definitely prefer it over the more common kind of frisbee.

Make sure you get the right weight range. If you're too light you won't be able to fully compress the springs for max height. If you're too heavy they'll bottom out which limits height and doesn't feel good.

I was going to throw some videos/channels to look at for technique but work is about to pick up so I don't have time right this second.

Beginner disc reccomendations:
First, disc down. You don't need a high speed driver as a beginner, because there's about a 99% chance you lack the proper arm speed and technique to throw it the way it needs to be thrown to fly properly.

With that said, here are some specific disc recommendations:

Fairway driver: Lat 64 River, Innova Teebird, Innova Leopard

Midrange: Innova Roc, Discraft Buzzz, Discraft Comet

Putter: Innova KC Aviar, Gateway Wizard (alternative is if you're lucky enough to be near a disc golf store, go there and pick up a few different putters, and buy whichever one feels comfortable in your hand)

There are also starter kits available via Amazon and various sporting goods stores. The most common being the Innova DX starter set (DX is a less durable type of plastic), the Innova Champion starter set (champion plastic is more durable). Discraft also makes starter sets, some with bags and some without.

It will be hard to find something better at that price (or less) unless you look for deals on blade/rubber and assemble it yourself.

How did you land on that basket? I've got that one and it's the lightest weight basket available, but it's not my favorite. I also have THIS ONE and prefer it more for a travelling basket. It's just a little bit bulkier, but works a lot better and is more durable. If the basket is intended to be LEFT outside and not moved around very much I would recommend moving up to an all metal basket like THIS or THIS

If you are in north jersey you should check out the course at Rutgers, oldest course in the country and nice short holes for beginners.

You'll lose discs, it's part of the game but when you are starting out and can't throw that far it shouldn't be so bad.

A lot of hate for shufflers, but a manual shuffling device can work. To Watch: The 2016 Beaver State Fling 3rd round lead card
Riverbend @ Milo McIver State Park outside Portland, OR is a beautiful course. Ricky and Nate are lead card regulars (and to a slightly lesser extent Philo and Kyle). This round also contains the Philobatross: Philo's 2 on the par-5 hole 6W. Its honestly the best shot I've seen on film.
From there, CCDG and Jomez are both great sources for edited tournament coverage that is posted about 24 hours after the rounds are played.

To Disc Up: Find a local disc golf store and go tell them you want to start playing. They'll help you find between one and three discs that are beginner appropriate and you should be able to walk out for under $30. You should also be able to find pre-packaged beginner sets of 3 discs that are appropriate as long as you avoid the Franklin brand (they are notoriously low quality and will warp after too many tree hits). For courses, I use DGCourseReview to find courses. For the most part, you just go and play. Private courses might have a check-in, but most courses are in city/state parks and all you'll have to pay is parking.

Take them disc golfing you can spend 18$ on a starter set and play for free when ever it's i take my 6 year old cousin all the time he loves it just be careful around holes with water.

Okay, make something like this slightly larger so it'll shuffle card sleeves right (friend of mine I play with has one, its great for nonsleeved decks)

I have limited mobility in my right hand, so I use a manual crank shuffler as well, except when I play Onirim - it's always solo so I'll washing machine the deck first, then hindu shuffle the deck during play.

The shuffler doesn't save time, as noted by pimaniac - in fact I think it takes longer - I'll do a 7x shuffle hoping that it randomizes enough. It does, but I think that it also will pass pairs a lot more than a riffle shuffle by hand. That's anecdotal though, I've got no data to back that up :-)

I’m not sure how long the hole was. UDisc says 218 but the sign says like 252 so I’m not sure, there was quite a bit of that there it looks like they recently went through and reworked everything, cleaned everything up. The ribbon cable was very brittle and snapped, so now I want to make it a plug and play. I'm wondering if anyone can figure out if I can, or how to attach AV cables to the board so it can be hooped up to a TV, or if that is even a wise idea. Thank you for helping, I don't know much yet but I hope to learn more soon.

(PS I'm aware that most of the games on that aren't good, and it probably isn't worth the trouble, but I want to do a project and this was cheap, and offered learning experience.)

They are a lot of fun, but its really easy to hurt yourself. Practice on the grass as much as you can, make sure theres no rocks around for your to fall on. I'd recommend something like a soccer field.

Simple backpacks end up being better than those bags they include in those starter sets. This set is better quality discs HERE. Better yet, if you have a local store, go talk to the person at the desk.

This to play with your dog or your friends :) It would last a long time and your dog would be so happy. You would both get exercise too.

Everything is 3/4" pipe. The total costs of the joints at Lowe's is $9.24:

  For the pipe, you can get 10 feet of 200psi pipe for $1.51. This works fine for all the tubes except for the main vertical shaft. For that, you want to get the heavier pipe, so that it will make a tighter fit with the post on the basket. I think the heavier pipe is around $2.50 for 10 feet. All together, you'll be spending about $13.

  The first design I tried was this. It's a few bucks cheaper, because it uses less of the 45 degree elbows, but would need glue to keep it from falling over in one direction. I started with edges that were 2 feet long for the base, and so when I decided to bisect them, I made them 11.25 inches (allowing 1.5 inches for the tee). When I went with the final design, I kept that measurement the same. Here's what I ended up for total pieces:

• 2 pieces 11.5" -- for the long diagonals
  
• 2 pieces 8" -- for the short diagonals
  
• 2 pieces 4.5" -- for the long arms

  Total length of tube needed: 173 inches. A single ten foot piece from the hardware store is 120 inches. So, you'll need two of them.
  
  I marked the distances with a sharpie, and then cut them with a compound miter box saw. I didn't allow any space for the cut, since tolerances here are pretty lax anyway. If you don't have a compound miter box saw, you can just use a hacksaw instead, but it will take a lot longer, and you'll need to sand the pieces after each cut.
  
  I didn't bother gluing any of this, but it's pretty sturdy. If you plan to use it a lot, it would be worthwhile to glue the joints, and spray paint it.

I would recommend a starter pack for each of you. I got the Innova Starter Pack and it is excellent for beginners. Depending on the arm strength/athleticism you probably will not even need the driver for the first while.

Most people here will recommend that you do not regularly the the driver discs until you have a better handle on the game as the drivers will hide/mask bad form and limit your game farther down the line.

You get the benefits of an automatic shuffler without running the risk of your cards getting destroyed. You can feel if there's going to be a jam, reverse it, then crank clockwise again.

I've been into the board game scene for less than a year but this was one of my first investments and I don't take my games anywhere without it. I can't shuffle properly so I want it available, especially for games with large decks like Shadows Over Camelot. I just cut the deck, shuffle, then repeat once. Makes setup quick, easy, and random.

The bonus is that I don't have to worry about anyone using the dreaded bridge shuffle technique since everyone wants to try the shuffler because it's just so cool. Just tell them to go slow with it to feel for jams and ensure the cards distribute more evenly.

The only downsides to this shuffler are that it comes with a stupid giant sticker on the top (which is removable anyway) and you can't shuffle sleeved cards in it. I only sleeve hidden role cards so it's not an issue for me.

Get a basket and practice. Start close and move out as you make them, closer as you miss them. As long as you have solid fundamentals, it's just a confidence thing and you need to get your mojo back.

Edit: I got this basket a few weeks ago, it's cheap and 'close enough' to the real thing for me to notice improvement already.

Easiest/cheapest way to get a good variety quickly is to use the Pathfinder NPC codex box. Lots of variety and pretty inexpensive. They also have the bestiary box.

What we do at our table is use the cardboard for PCs and then actual mini figures for the NPCs/bad guys. Its an easy way to know who is good and bad on the battle field.

Some people dont like Ultra Pro and prefer other companies. This one is one of my personal favorites. Cover feels solid and I appreciate the zipper around it.

That’s one of the reasons I like my Throwback All Day bag, it’s unique. The discs go in the outside pockets and the inside is basically a giant cooler. However I am now the designated beer mule for my friends, so that’s a little drawback.

It depends on where you are playing. If losing discs is not a concern, I'd get the Champion version of the starter set. They will last longer especially if you hit as many trees as I do. The DX set is also a good set, however, hit a few trees and they start to wear quick.

Well I don't know anything about disc golf in Australia, but I'm sure it's around and I would think you could find some discs. Do you have any discs yet? If not, the Innova Starter Set is usually the way to go for beginners. It has a putter, a midrange, and a fairway driver; all of which are versatile discs that are all a beginner really needs for your first couple months of disc golf.

Oh and i also recommend getting a flying disk called an Aerobie. It's astonishing, and so addictive. You can play with him in the park. I once lost a good 6 inches off my waste playing that thing for an hour almost every day.

These defy the purpose of practicing with a hanging chain. The idea is that if you're able to focus on the chain and hit it when you practice putting, then when you get out on the course and it's time to lay in a put, you'll feel more confident hitting a larger target.

If there was anyway you could stretch to the Palio Expert 2 at $39.95 it would make a huge difference to someone learning the game. It's basically the cheapest "proper" bat available on amazon. Plus the rubbers are incredibly hard wearing so will last for ages and can take a beating.

But if it's for a school club I would reach out to some of the well known shops and see if they can cut you a deal/give you some stuff for free. Megaspin might be worth a shot. I'm in the UK, so not much help on that side of things.

Some courses, especially with water, will have a guy sitting in the parking lot selling used discs that he finds. $5-7 usually. Or if you have a buddy who plays and he's not a dick, he'll probably give you a disc.

I've ordered a couple Pacific Outdoors practice targets. Main advantages are the low cost ($100) relative to other baskets and they're closer to PDGA dimensions than a lot of other practice baskets. Downside is they only come in on color (red), only have one set of chains and while they are portable they're completely metal so more difficult to move around than something like a Skillshot. Other than the classic 175g ultimate disc, you could grab one of these throwing rings from Aerobie, I believe it still holds the world record for being the farthest object thrown by a human.

That's what I have, it's close to what you described... can't put ice in it, but ice packs work. There are cheaper versions too.

I had the same problem, but I think that's an Aerobie.

I use a frisbee made by aerobie that is a ring type, the outer edges are rubber but the inner ring that gives the frisbee its shape is made of hard plastic. They aren't the most durable frisbee but my dogs use them daily and it stands up to their chewing and quick games of tug with it for about 2-3 months before needing replaced.

Chuck-it makes several types of fabric frisbees, but I've never used them so I don't know how well they would hold up.

There is a company that does a Grip Rippoff and sells it without logo, doesn't get much simpler than that. Also very cheap. But as it goes with Ripp offs though, I'm a bit doubtful about the quality.

Funny story. My mom got it for my brother's kids. Some reason my (obviously anal parent with control issues) brother won't allow his kids to play disc golf. They're 10. and 8 yo. I don't know why... The worst part is, he has a disc golf course in his backyard. That's not an exaggeration, look at the hole #7 picture: http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=4731. I just started playing a few months ago and bought the DX Innova beginner set (link here). Highly recommend it. I started out throwing just the putter & midrange, and then worked my way up to the fairway driver. The DX plastic is really fine for beginners. I actually like it. Not afraid to beat it up since they are my first discs. Now that I have worked on my form and have my style down, I can choose specific discs to add to my bag.

My copy is sleeved and I use these 25 card deck boxes. 50 Card for some larger characters like Endrbyt.

However, the ~70 characters that I have they don't all fit into one box. Even if they did, the plastic deck boxes would make it quite heavy. As such, I have keep some of the more basic characters in the War box and I have the larger Devastation box host some more advanced characters. This allows me to keep a travel kit of sorts to teach new players. Here's a snippet of my Devastation box.. My War box is incidentally at a friends house from the last time I taught the game.

I have the [Mach Lite] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015O6QSA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_RDlaCbCXRG8PK) and it's so great. I can fold it up and take it with me for practice very easily. It was a bit pricier than I had intended, but I have zero regrets. Being able to fold it up compared to most rigid frame baskets is a huge plus. It's sturdy as hell and I can see it lasting for a long time since I always keep it stored in the folded configuration. Seriously give this a thought.
