Top Reddit comments about Letter & Legal Ruled Pads:

Rhodia makes a legal pad with yellow paper, but at $11/pad it's a lot pricier than the typical $2 legal pad that you find at Walmart or Target. You might have better luck with Staples' eco friendly sugarcane paper, which comes in legal pads as well as wirebound notebooks. They're like $5/pad and pretty fountain pen friendly, though I've found that Diamine and Noodler's inks tend to feather and bleed a bit. I've also heard good things about Ampad Gold Fibre pads.

Cheers!

For Me:

North Face ACCESS Pack Backpack, No zippers to get your more frequently used items, and plenty of protection for a laptop.

Dell XPS 13 9350-10673SLV Signature Edition Laptop, Is laptop, does what it says on the tin. 13 inch is the perfect size imo, as long as you have something bigger available in your room or a computer lab.

Dell Power Companion External Battery, For those long days on campus where you need a bit more power. Reasonably light with lots of power.

Pilot G2 Pen, The best pen in the world I think. Fantastic at writing a clean, smooth line, and cheap enough that I don't care if I lose it.

Pentel Graph Gear 1000 Automatic Drafting Pencil
, I think one of the best pencils in the world. However I save this for scantron tests and other places where I can't use a pen, as I honestly prefer the Pilot G2.

Writing Tablet
, It's paper, what more do you want. I experimented around with proper bound notebooks and such but I find this is much more convenient because I usually need to pass in what I write, or it's just scratch I can throw out.

Fuse Chicken TITAN LOOP Key Chain Cable, Charge your phone on the go! Always have to have a lightning cable available.

Casio FX-115ES Scientific Calculator, A nice capable (but not graphing) calculator. I've never had a class where my graphing calculators could be used, and I rarely use this now as well. Still good to have in the backpack though.

iClicker, Gotta get those sweet lecture quiz points.

Mini Wireless Mouse, Just a bluetooth mouse to use with the laptop if I'm doing more intense work. Rarely used, but good to have.

Yall sure are lookin' mighty fine today. Must be nice to be that good lookin' with zero effort...

Gift one, I would love these headphones. I am sick and tired of getting tangled in wires while running, and with this new fangled technology no longer does one have to suffer with antiquated cords. Science!

and for gift two.... C'mon...gimme these lovely legal pads to make work more bright and shiny. Or gift card. Or maybe a hug. It's been a hell of a week.

Thank you again for your unending generosity.

Assuming she is a handwriter in class: Ampad or Tops law-ruled legal pads: https://www.amazon.com/Ampad-20245-Double-Sheets-Canary/dp/B0013CHS0O/ref=sr_1_4?crid=JLMUV261RTRL&keywords=law+ruled+legal+pad&qid=1564676679&s=gateway&sprefix=law+rule%2Caps%2C142&sr=8-4

Also, unless she's left-handed (and maybe even then), a nice fountain pen. Writing with ball-points destroyed my hand: fountain pens allow you to relax your hand and write with no pressure, plus she can use different colors for different purposes (one color for brief, another for class notes, a third for important rules of black letter law, etc. Plus a single modestly priced pen will pay for itself in disposable pen costs during her time in school. Fahrney's, Goulet pens, and Anderson pens are a few of the good online sites. A lot of people like Lamy as a starter, but there are many good choices.

Finally, a Black's law Dictionary might be nice.

I'll interpret "guy stuff" as "EDC stuff".

Before I go into the products, the best purchase I've made years ago was purchasing the Amazon Prime yearly membership. Free two day shipping, Amazon Prime Video, Music, etc...

Anyways, I love this simple wolf necklace, amazing laptop case, Batman protein shake bottle, Legal writing pads, and my Harry Potter scarf.

Depends on how awkward that would be to do. Try touch typing on that thing on a desk for a few minutes. Seriously, a good pen and paper tablet (as in, not a notebook but a full-size tablet like this but much cheaper) is wonderful. I used to take my netbook for notes, but ended up switching due to how much easier it was to take notes, reread them, and organize them.

I really wanted an excuse to use my netbook in classes, but have found it fits the niche of project meetings, research between classes, and just general web browsing once in a while.

my personal favorite is the Ampad Gold Fibre Retro writing pad. 5"X8" Medium rule. It's just what I need for portability, "speed of draw", and ruggedness, but scaled for quick personal notes rather than scientific documentation. I've become quite fond of the short-edge wire bound style, which is very compatible my general use of one side of each sheet. Paired with the classic Pentel QE517 Japan 6A Twist-Erase 0.7mm mechanical pencil. Such a great pencil design!

u/jd_edc · 4 pointsr/fountainpens

That paper is going to be really heavy, more like cardstock. A 24-32lb copy paper might be more appropriate for day to day.

As for notebooks, take a look at the hardcover Black n' Red books or maybe something top wirebound? Until recently, I hadn't found a legal pad that worked well (then I found these) so I used Rhodia pads with the spiral on top, like so. Definitely lets you hold up with one hand and write with the other.

u/applejade · 1 pointr/fountainpens

Ah, okay. In that case, stay on the lookout for the Clairefontaine grid lined 3.5x5.5 staple bound notebook. I can't find anyone that carries it online, but I got one at a local stationery store.

It's a very very tiny bit wider than 3.5", but it's a 48 sheet/96 pager. The cover is an ugly one, like this. It should be around that price ($8 for 3 plus shipping).

Edit: and I'm not blasting the Banditapple Peewee at you on purpose, because I have a feeling you'd find it dry and toothy if you love the Rhodia/Clairefontaine paper. =)

Legal pads are always useful for school and work. Sold and shipped by Amazon.

If she's anything like me when I get excited, she's gonna smack you.

Thanks for the contest! May the odds be ever in your favor...

u/nikgenic · 3 pointsr/notebooks

What about Rhodia notebooks that are spiral-bound on the top instead of the left? They're less intrusive. https://www.amazon.com/Rhodia-Wirebound-Pad-8-25X11-75-Black/dp/B00BCH05ZU/

There are also Rhodias that fold on top instead: https://www.amazon.com/2-Pack-Rhodia-Black-Dot-12-5/dp/B01KG7X8V4
The folding mechanism is not bad (However, it is pretty necessary to rip the pages out after you use them in order to write on the back.)

I really like Rhodia. :P (especially dots)

u/hmm_m · 2 pointsr/nanocurrency

I agree with /u/flwas - the brand of Nano should be built on the simplicity of the architecture and use. Branding should be comparable to Bic Mechanical Pencils, or Ampad Notepads. I buy both of those items in bulk, because they're very high quality, and very disposable. I've recorded genius (and idiot) ideas on them, used them to track scores for impromptu games at a bar, and left deep philosophical notes for myself with them. They are ubiquitous in my bags, and I've made it a point to always have both of these items available to me wherever I go.

Similarly, Nano is positioned to be the most usable currency in the market. Fast, lightweight, not a big fuss. It's not something that you want to take a second mortgage on your house for (Bitcoin), or indicate social status to use (Apple). It's just what you use, because it's money. I've found the architecture of the Blockchain Lattice to be a beautiful image, which can be referenced in any discussion of Nano, but has much larger implications regarding the security and scalability of the network.

for any fellow list-makers & note-takers

I love legal pads. They're big enough for longer notes and lists but still thin and easy to carry. It's nothing special, but a kind of daily necessity (for most people, at least, I would think). And... 314!

u/notarealengineer · 1 pointr/technology

I loved these while I was in school.

u/chopp3r · 1 pointr/fountainpens

I'd read somewhere that the Ampad Heavyweight Writing Pad, fairly cheap in bulk, was a good choice for fountain pen use--it wasn't. It feathered badly. Whitelines paper, like this is pricier but I haven't had trouble with feathering or bleed-through when using their
perfect-bound and spiral-bound notebooks.

u/PrimoasiaN · 1 pointr/functionalprint

Version 2.0 should have a "C" shape with the opening facing down. In this "C" shape you would slide a mini legal pad and use it to write notes like, "Kevin, you're the reason I wear headphones."

My favorite is the Ampad evidence dual pad. Can't live without them.

This one.

Here are two options on amazon: Lined paper or legal pads in different colors.

u/leftyscissors · 4 pointsr/skyrim

Back in the day we made our own quest journals. I remember when I first started playing MUDs and zork style games I used to map everything on graph paper.

u/sterbl · 4 pointsr/AskAnAmerican

I'm aware of them but never used them. I've always used spiral notebooks instead. Or sometimes, yellow legal pads

u/HighFlyingDog · 3 pointsr/flying

I gave up on kneeboards and instead use one of these now: https://www.amazon.com/Ampad-20-208-Evidence-Perforated-Writing/dp/B0017DCQCE

I lose it constantly.
