Hi everyone,

I have a gay graphic novel on Amazon which I'd love for you to checkout!

AND THE EBOOK VERSION IS NOW ONLY $2.99!!

https://www.amazon.com/Over-Ran-Michael-Ekman-ebook/dp/B07TKYV3GS/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1564742295&sr=8-1

It's a story of trying to move on after a break-up when life is also happening.

The story focus on Tom and his not-so-great period of life.

He's back to dating after breaking up with the guy he thought was the love of his life, and it's not working out so great. He tries to find a new place to live where he could be alone without the whims of a roommate but finding a flat in the big city is near impossible. And if that wasn't bad enough, the last friend he got left (after everyone got married, had children and moved to the suburbs) suddenly disappeared. Everything is just the worst - until everything changes. That's right, there's a new man (at least one) shows up!

The link is for the Kindle version for $2.99, there's also a paperback option for $9.99.

It's about 100 pages of story plus more than 50 pages of bonus materials like character sketches, variant covers (I had so much fun with those) and a 6 pages alternate ending (the original idea I had for the story and everyone thought was too dark, though I like it).

Free to hit me up with comments.

Thanks,

Ran

LGBT

  • Queer: A Graphic History, as the name announces, is pretty much exactly what your looking for in in the LGBT history deptartment.

  • Love is Love isn't historical yet. But's is a response and testament to the Pulse massacre in Orlando, a historical event in LGBT history.

    Music

  • The Carter Family: Don't Forget This Song is a fantastic biography of the First Family of Country Music. It won an Eisner award, if you put stock in those sorts of things. In addition to the music history it touches on the the Great Depression and on the sociology of the rural South.

  • Definitely going to second /u/DobbyDude on The Fifth Beatle. Interesting narrative structure and some of the most beautiful art I've seen in a comic.
u/rumbleberrypie · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This book is queer, and on my wishlist as well. It's supposedly very good.

I'd also highly recommend The Song of Achilles. I've reread it a bunch of times and absolutely adore it, it's so cute. Aristotle and Dante Discover The Universe is similar and also very good.

This book is supposed to be great, also on my to-read list. It's a graphic history of queerness.

This is called Queer There and Everywhere, 23 people who changed the world. I really want to read this one too!

YAAAS QUEEN!

u/EmeryXCI · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Gosh, I would really love to have this book because it looks like a really great read, and covers some topics that hit kind of close to home for me. I don't usually purchase/wishlist physical copies of books unless they are super good reads that I plan on reading over and over again but this one is just special.

Can you define conviviality? I've never heard that word before. Thank you for the contest. :)

All Ages (age ratings sourced from Comixology)

u/darkpurple_ · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon
  1. This is a book about somebody just like me, and there aren't very many of those out there. It's so great to see representation of queer types in media, however rare.

  2. This book looks pretty awesome. I read the preview and got hooked. It's a really unique perspective on a dystopian society.

  3. If I were a book, I hope that I'd be a great one.
u/NuclearHubris · 3 pointsr/lgbt

I recommend reading this book as a good brush-up on LGBT history, and educate yourself about the world your child and her friend are living in. My best recommendation is just to read, read and educate yourself about pride, LGBT history, persecution, and laws, and stand up for trans rights where it's necessary. As an adult you have the ability to vote and speak out for him in ways he cannot do for himself as a child.

u/redisthecoolestcolor · 1 pointr/actuallesbians

I think the film is currently on Netflix. It's okay, but the graphic novel is much better. I recommend reading it in paper format. Amazon has it used for a very reasonable price. :)

u/arsenelupinVIII · 3 pointsr/altcomix

I agree with /u/MicMit, and that Fantagraphics link is great.

Personally, my entry point were the two enormous hardcover collections, Locas: The Maggie and Hopey Stories, and Palomar: The Heartbreak Soup Stories. Neither is completely comprehensive, but I loved reading each brother's respective works en masse this way.

I think Locas is out of print, but if you belong to a public library, you may be able to request copies!

u/samanthais · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

Of course I have. I've read the comic, too.

I think it's a good movie in it's own right about young romance and heartbreak. My only personal annoyances were the extreme closeups of their faces as they were eating messy foods, and the 7 minute sex scene. Granted, I didn't have a problem with that until I read a few articles about how extremely uncomfortable the two actresses were during filming.

But sure. Otherwise, good movie. And I'm pretty sure you can check it out on Netflix if you've got it.

Glad you enjoyed it! ❤️❤️❤️

>Definitely wasn’t expecting it to be anywhere near ATLA but I was wrong

Ikr! It totally just blows you away

>it would of been cool if she had to relearn water, earth, and fire bending from kuruk, kyoshi, and roku

Idk. I really like the moment between her and Aang. Plus, I don't wanna watch ANOTHER show about the avatar mastering the elements. It would feel like the same thing all over again.

>I think making her lose connection to her past avatars and never being able to reconnect was a big let down.

I honestly really like what they did there. It put her in a situation where she would have to become wiser on her own. She can't just call up Aang or Wan anymore she had to learn. I think it made her stronger

YOU SHOULD READ TURF WARS: https://www.amazon.com/Legend-Korra-Turf-Wars-Library/dp/1506702023

u/artman · 1 pointr/movies

I would like to see some of my favorite independent comic book characters and stories adapted to film. I can only wish that The Preacher, Transmetropolitan or Sandman of Vertigo come to the screen someday.

And I am really grabbing straws with Love & Rockets, The Badger and Paul Pope's 100% (well, anything by him) on my list of wishes - so I'll just re-read the books again.

Yep, you can get it here

Keep in mind that it's not a novel, but a graphic novel! 🎉

A great condensed and accessible resource on many concepts related to sexuality and gender is "Queer: A Graphic History". I highly recommend it!

What made you think that it's my job to educate people? I'm an young adult fiction author by trade, not a teacher. If you want someone to teach you, maybe start by studying an introductory book on queer theory? Dr. Meg-John Barker has an excellent beginner's level guide available at https://www.amazon.com/Queer-Graphic-Dr-Meg-John-Barker/dp/1785780719

u/Bifrons · 3 pointsr/MensRights

I can't find Annie, but here's Blue is the Warmest Color (The French version is here) and Here's the first volume of Whiteout.

u/intisun · 1 pointr/actuallesbians

Make sure you read the graphic novel! The author is a friend of mine, so this is totally partial, but it has received a lot of acclaim: http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Warmest-Color-Julie-Maroh/dp/1551525143

u/fugee_life · 2 pointsr/actuallesbians

It's based on this graphic novel by an actual lesbian so that gives me hope

When Hazel Johnson and Mari McCray met at church bingo in 1963, it was love at first sight. Forced apart by their families and society, Hazel and Mari both married young men and had families. Decades later, now in their mid-’60s, Hazel and Mari reunite again…

I think they are there to make the Dream Daddy Comic coming out May 14th.
Link: https://www.amazon.com/Dream-Daddy-Dating-Comic-Book/dp/1620106310

It's very possible that they are also working on another game. The teaser for Dream Daddy dropped about a month before release, so they might be hush hush about their new project. That's just speculation though.

A few titles by Gengoroh Tagame have been released in english and are available on Amazon
Here's a link to one of them , the other two should be listed right below.

Queer: A Graphic History. I devoured it in a sitting and was just floored.

The writer of The Flintstones also just did a Snagglepuss comic set in the McCarthy era with Snagglepuss as a Tennessee Williams figure. https://www.amazon.com/Exit-Stage-Left-Snagglepuss-Chronicles/dp/1401275214/

This?

Price is in Canadian dollars by the way.

u/j9162 · 2 pointsr/legendofkorra

Sure! So for ATLA there are a series of trilogy stories. Their order is:

The Promise (3 parts, 2012)

The Search (3 parts, 2013)

The Rift (3 parts, 2014)

Smoke and Shadow (3 parts, 2015–16)

North and South (3 parts, 2016–17)

Imbalance (3 parts, 2018–19).

They all take place after the show and were made by and in connection with the creators. They're canon and some later ones reference earlier ones so be sure to read in the chronological order. There's also two anthology series that contain short stories from during the show. "The Lost Adventures" and "Team Avatar Tales."

For Korra there's only two so far:

Turf Wars (3 parts, 2017-18)

Ruins of the Empire (2019-20).

You can buy all of these on Amazon and in many cases you can find them at your local bookstore or library. They are available either in three smaller separate softcover parts or one combined hardcover. I personally bought them all as they came out and have the three individual softcover parts for each trilogy. Three separate covers that way too. Some of them are old enough now that the hardcover might be cheaper or on sale though so you might choose that.

"The Search" part 1 softcover is available here or "The Search" Hardcover part 1-3 is available on sale here.

"Turf Wars" part 1 softcover is available here or "Turf Wars" Hardcover part 1-3 is available on sale here.

You can find the rest of them on Amazon when you get to them too. Have fun!!
