My fondest gaming memory would be the first game I ever played-Diablo II with my dad. We never really had anything in common when I was growing up, and out of the blue one day he bought 2 copies of the game and asked if I wanted to play with him. I was reluctant because I wasn't really into gaming or anything, but it was AWESOME! We really enjoyed it and played together quite a bit. Anyway, red vines always remind me of playing Diablo with my dad because he had this huge tub of them right next to the desks and would snack on them while we played :)

The "Fazer Ässä Salmiakki" is a sweet salmiakki, not as bitter if you don't like that.

I find them addictive, and they have a great burning sensation from the ammonium chloride (Latin sal ammoniacus, from which the name salmiakki comes)

Be warned though, it's an acquired taste and very different from North American candies:

If you're ever in Finland, definitely try Apteekin salmiakki, and the Fazer salmiakki ice-cream!

Hey, there's this amazing sweet called Salmiakki (literally, salted liquorice), you should try it some time! There's this website called "Youtube" - I'm sure they'd love to see you trying sweets from around the world! You could be famous!

How long ago were you a kid? Five years? Twenty?

When you say a sweetart filling, was it a hard powdery candy? Or a chewy, soft candy?

There are lots of filled Twizzlers out now, and there was/possibly still is a filled chewy Jolly Rancher as well.

Even though they weren't blue, the bag was blue and this was out about ten years ago. They were called Twerpz (I miss them).

Used to like Sen-Sen as a kid back in the 60's. They were sold as a breath freshener, but they had a sweetness to them and a hint of licorice and were a treat. Found them as an adult and had enough at one time (tasted like licking a bar of soap - blech!) that I was cured for life!

Ever had really good Dubbel Zoute drops? I used to keep a tub of them on my desk at work and goad people into tasting them. Even people who normally like black licorice are often disgusted by the ammonium chloride salt in them. Makes 'em taste a little bit like Windex. I love them!

Salted licorice is kind of a 'you love it or you hate it' thing, but I think it's wonderful. Sixteen92 Black Annis from two falls ago had a salmiakki vibe to it, but that's as close as I've found. This brand is from my home town and I definitely recommend it, but if you're trying salted licorice for the first time, don't go with the double salted. It'll knock you on your butt with how salty it is.

My mom (full Dutch) is completely addicted to this stuff. I've warmed up to it a bit, haha.

Salted Licorice. I had a friend growing up whose mother was Dutch and used to get these ZALTA DROPS delivered. The come in regular and double salt. While they are an acquired taste, sometimes I get a hankering for one.

You can find this in Northern Europe, Germany and Turkey. I've seen some in Finland and Denmark. They go by other names. This picture is the Danish one. It's essentially Turkish pepper aka a kind of licorice. You might have a better chance with the English name. FAZER is a Finnish company.
