Thorough info I really appreciate it And as someone who has gotten the most relief/answers from naturopathic / holistic doctors, I really appreciate that you are open minded enough to go to an ND. Can't tell you how much hate ive gotten whenever I write about my experiences with ND's. Yet not one western doctor MD has yet t ask about my diet, and when I asked my primary care UCLA doctor where I can get tested for vitamin deficiencies she said "I have no idea."

I really hope you start feeling better soon. Also, since you are open to trying things that are outside of the box, I recommend looking into this company's products: https://ancestralsupplements.com

I am on a mostly plant based diet myself which has helped, but supplementing with their spleen reversed my years-long mystery anemia. I also take their heart and bone marrow. The owner is incredible and responds almost immediately. Sometimes he even sends out a free bottle for you to try if you explain your situation. He can give good advice on recommendations. These organ supplements have natural bioavailable nutrients more so than any other food on earth. I recommend looking at their amazon reviews which are so inspiring. There are a lot of very chronically ill people getting their life back with the help of these supplements. Wish u the best! https://www.amazon.com/Ancestral-Supplements-Grass-Liver-Desiccated/dp/B01MSBZYQW

EDIT: Check out their kidney supplement which has high amounts of natural DAO (histamine inhibiting enzyme) https://www.amazon.com/Ancestral-Supplements-Kidney-High-Selenium/dp/B078K8L672/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=beef+kidney&qid=1562023339&s=hpc&sr=1-2-spons&psc=1

There are two that have helped me. I hear that others are down on this stuff, but it’s helped me ease into eating organ meats and I’ve absolutely noticed improvements that nothing else could give me. Feel free to DM for more info.

1 - Ancestral Supplements. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XP7Z1KN/. They have a variety of offerings (more on their website) and the owners are really active in answering questions, and their answers built my confidence.

2 - Mountain Sticks organ meat sticks. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CQGRMDI/. They make two flavors. One is even AIP approved. Both are Paleo certified. They’re not the most amazing tasting, but they’re ok and I can tolerate them. I have been sort of started to like the cranberry ones.

I’d like to hear if you learn anything further.

I was taking these as I built up my ability to stomach eating actual organ meats, and I think I’m about ready to do so.

u/chasecka · 1 pointr/keto

I feel your pain for sure! I saw you said your whole body was a problem area. I used to weigh 265lbs and I’m 5’9” I lost a lot of weight on keto. I recently switched to the carnivore diet and I started losing weight extremely fast and feel so awesome! I don’t know what you think about it, it’s a bit controversial. My bloodwork is perfect after about 6 months of doing it. If you did do it I suggest getting some beef organ capsules off amazon. I have to do that because I have a hard time eating organ meats. They are full of vitamins and minerals. They have one with heart, spleen, kidney, liver, and pancreas(Ancestral Supplements Grass Fed Beef Organs (Desiccated) - Liver, Heart, Kidney, Pancreas, Spleen ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XP7Z1KN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1KEmDbDH6YKXJ ). Also check out r/zerocarb for some good info on carnivore diet. I’m not trying to tell you what to do. I’m just sharing that it worked wonders for me! Have a great day and I hope you are doing well! Let’s build up those calves together! Lol

Cycle: TTC for 22 months

Ovulation cycle day: I stopped using ovulation tests a few months ago as my cycles have always been pretty regular, and I started forgetting and didn't want to spend more money on them. I knew about when I would be ovulating, so we just made sure to hit that window. I noticed EWCM on CD 12 and my app calculated (I assume from previous history) that I ovulated on CD 16.

Relevant BD/BD method (SMEP, Shettles, etc.): BD on CD 9, 12, 14, 17 and 23!

Tracking methods and apps used: Glow app

Symptom spotting: I had fatigue and headache on CD 16 and 17 and the sore breasts began on CD 18 and haven't stopped since! I've also noticed in the past week that my nipples have been sore. The even bothered me throughout the day from rubbing on my bra! I thought it was definitely odd that my breasts were that sore for so long.

Day of positive test(s): The evening of Friday, June 2, CD 28, DPO 12! I bought a test on my way home from work because I just had a feeling. Honestly though, when I took it I was just expecting a negative, as that has always been the result. I could barely finish in the bathroom before it turned a blazing positive!! Didn't even have to use 1st morning urine!

Supplements and medications: I have been taking prenatals since before we started TTC. I wasn't sure how soon we'd conceive, so I wanted to be sure I had a good supply of nutrients in my body beforehand, in case it happened quickly. Here is the list:

New Chapter Prenatal - (3 pills a day)

NOW DHA/EPA - (1 pill a day)

Solger Folate - (1 pill a day)

Vital Proteins Beef Liver -
(I was taking 1 pill a day, now I upped it to 3 pills a day)

Viva Naturals Krill Oil - (1 pill every other day)

Great Lakes Collagen Powder - (I haven't been taking this while TTC, but I've already purchased some and will be using it every day!)

Birth control history, if relevant: I haven't been on birth control in many, many years.

Health conditions/medical tests: Chronic headaches, although I have noticed that it's pretty much food related. That and my acne. I've been eating much better the past couple months and it's made a HUGE difference. I never was tested for anything, since we were TTC for 22 months. Hubs did get tested in March and everything came back completely normal. I had my yearly checkup in July, so that was when I was going to discuss my next steps.

Other (advice, magic secrets, freaking out, miscellaneous): According to all the apps and my calculations, today I am 4 weeks, 1 day! Hubs and I couldn't be more excited!! I know it's still really early, and that scares us a little, but we've never seen a positive test before and today I AM PREGNANT! It's been a hard 22 months for the both of us, but when we saw that positive, it made it all worth it. As for how I'm feeling today: I have been cramping a little bit and my chest is still sore. No morning sickness yet, but honestly I can't wait for ALL THE SYMPTOMS! I'll be calling my doctor on Monday morning to schedule my first appointment. :D

If anyone has any questions, please let me know!

That’s all good !!

This product (see below) got some great reviews. I think you should invest the money in something more potent and with more than one active anti inflammatory ingredients.

sounds like you need to load up your Retinol and Vitamin D stores. Find local farms and only buy from ones that meet your standards for animal treatment. Ruminants are extremely important for holistic farming and bringing life back to the land.

What about something like this: Ancestral Supplements Grass Fed Beef Liver (Desiccated) — Natural Iron, Vitamin A, B12 for Energy (180 Capsules) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MSBZYQW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_q16SCbBD17F70

u/msacch · 6 pointsr/carnivore

Have you tried any supplements?

I’m about 3 weeks into carnivore and week 2 was absolute hell on my stomach.

I did some research and added the following supplements and I’m back to all good. They aid with animal fat digestion. I added the iron because I feel it helps with PMS emotional symptoms.

I also did a 24 Hour fast with just bone broth, which helped too - a reset kind of. And 1 Metamucil tablet a day for 3-4 days.

lipase

ox bile

iron

Good luck!

We have very similar genetics.

Never take cyanocobalamin, but especially with MTRR you need methylcobalamin. Similarly for the MTHFR you should never take anything that just says "folate" or "folic acid," only take methylfolate. The forms you're taking make those genetic issues worse.

Strongly recommend replacing all the B vitamins with dessicated liver: Perfect Desiccated Liver - Grass Fed Undefatted Argentine Beef Liver (120 capsules, 750mg per capsule, Net wt 90g) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J47LEMS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_j0uWzbG1BMAV6

It will provide the right forms of the vitamins in a natural ratio with some minerals and proteins that smooth everything out. I have yet to find anyone who didn't have a much better experience on it as compared to a B complex or isolated B vitamins.

u/ESRversion3 · 1 pointr/carnivore

I'm fine without eating organ meats. I tried eating liver a few times, but I couldn't handle it. I did however buy these, and I feel good after taking them.

> It's 2g of protein per tab.

Can you link me to the ones with 2g of protein? These ones (https://www.amazon.com/Beverly-International-Desiccated-Golden-era-performance/dp/B0013OSC4I) only seem to have 1g of total liver per tab, and they don't specify how much of that is protein.

> They are just extra protein with little, if not zero, impact on appetite or fullness. Also, if you don't like organ meats, it's a way to get them in diet.

Fair enough.

> It's not in lieu of food or other protein sources, it's just an easy way to get 30+ grams per day.

I guess I would think of an extra scoop of protein powder being easier than taking 15+ large pills every day, but that's ultimately down to personal preference.

Look into Ancestral Supplements Grass Fed Beef Liver. You're basically getting all the benefits of eating liver without actually eating liver. You may still have to cut out coffee, but I've seen a major difference. I don't generally succumb to the placebo effect. The reviews sucked me in (I've never been a vitamin\supplement taker) and I have to agree with them. It's been about two months.

I take the Bone Marrow as well and good god, I have more range of motion and less joint pain that at any time in life. I tend to be really seized up. Even chiropractors can't or have an extremely difficult time popping my joints. A week of this and I was popping all over, including my lower back where I have the most problems. The popping settled down and now I just have what feels like incredible range of motion for me.

If you do try them I would love to know if your iron levels actually go up, assuming you get it tested on a semi-regular basis.

u/wobbegong0310 · 2 pointsr/zerocarb

That's an interesting idea! Can you swallow the whole tablespoon at once, though? I think the point of the pill-sized frozen bits is that you can swallow them (er... like pills) without having to taste them much.

I have a liver supplement pill too (this one) but it makes me burp liver-flavor for a while after I take them, which is not my favorite thing.

u/moogie_moogie · 2 pointsr/cfs

Consider the following an extremely half-assed DIY self-experiment -- complete with a lack of follow-up testing right now -- but I had some strange "low-normal" iron levels in my bloodwork late last year, including ferritin. I wasn't wild about the bio-availability debate with supplements, so I decided to take a "food forward" approach with it and deliberately up iron-rich foods (like cooking spinach-beef meatballs in tomato sauce in a cast iron pan, haha - or less extreme, making breakfast cookies with oats and a lot of blackstrap molasses).

I've been supplementing with beef liver pills the last 4-5 months and anecdotally, they seem slightly helpful. At some point I'll recheck bloodwork. I like this approach, though, because it provides a spectrum of nutrients and I don't have to feel bad about not eating liver more frequently now.

This is what I’m taking and I recommend it Ancestral Supplements.

I was diagnosed with gallbladder disease, had some sludge. Hurt like hell, made my stomach swell up like i was pregnant. The Doc's wanted to take it out, i told them no thanks i'll take my chances and die at my own hands if i must and do some expirementing. I've been using Keto for 8 months to heal it up, its been a slow process but there has been a lot of progress. This product was a total game changer and has made the biggest difference within a few days. http://www.amazon.com/Dr-Christophers-Original-Formulas-Capsules/dp/B000N38PMO

flyby naturals grassfed beef liver

Sorry not sure how to do a picture... it's bout the cheapest grassfed beef liver capsule on amazon at $25, for me that's a month supply

This one? https://www.amazon.com/Ancestral-Supplements-Grass-Liver-Desiccated/dp/B01MSBZYQW I guess you take 6 pills a day.

They also have organs version. Any thoughts on that?

I had the same issue.

When I first started losing my hair, I jumped on it right away with fin. Hair stopped falling out within 2 weeks, no b.s. But i quit it after 4 months because the sides were devastating.

Fast forward about 8 years and I try fin again, thinking maybe EOD i can keep my hair and mitigate side effects. Did this for about a year, and while I had no sides, the hair kept falling out. Not quite at the same rate as no-fin, but I'm still losing ground. I moved up to 1 mg of fin.

Fast forward a year and a half, and my shedding is still the same. WTF, i'm wondering. It works perfectly (and instantly) the first time around, but now seems to only reduce my shedding by about 50% after 18 months of usage?

I've been researching the thyroid a lot the past year. Got into the Ray Peat forums. I'm not going to delve into that diet/lifestyle and its efficacy, but while my GP said my thyroid was in healthy range, Ray Peat's indicators of hypothroidism (low pulse rate and low body temp) were both present with me. My body temp was always 95-96 range and my pulse was in the 50s, which is only healthy if you're an Olympic swimmer.

Iron deficiency can also lead to hair loss. Now taking iron supplements is dangerous for men, so this is something to talk to your doctor about. But here's what i've been doing, and it's the first time in years i've been able to put my head under a faucet and have literally ZERO hairs fall out.

Lugol's 5% iodine solution. I do one dropper of this a day along with 2 brazil nuts. You need selenium (i do two brazil nuts) with iodine. This is thyroid fuel.

Dessicated liver tablets. This is my preferred brand because it's undefatted and most stuff on amazon is defatted: http://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Desiccated-Liver-Undefatted-Argentine/dp/B00J47LEMS, but it might not matter.

I also do 3-4 spoonfuls of Coconut oil a day. This is also thyroid fuel and some studies show it has DHT lowering properties.

I also massage my head every day. I don't do the 20 minutes morning/night some people advocate, that's just too much. I try to do 3-5 minute sessions throughout the day. I noticed when I started that my scalp was very tender, and now when I do it, i'm virtually pain-free.

I'm sorry I can't provide the exact scientific breakdown, but this is not a regimen of my own invention. It's an abridged version of a regimen i saw on another forum. I've been on fin for almost 3 years. EOD for the first year, every day for the last two. It was only in the past 3 months (since starting this regimen) i had an actual stop in shedding and my hair is actually starting to feel thicker.

Go ahead and say i'm a shill for the above products (lol), but this is a regimen for a very small niche of fin users.
