Whatsup /r/longboard!
I am trying to get my wife into longboarding, but the problem with that is I don't know how to or anything about them. I'm getting back into skateboarding and I want to do flatground tricks. But back to her, I am reading up on the stuff and I think about it now, but can anyone tell me if this complete is nice or not? Thanks!

Also, if anyone can help me find a complete or help me build a deck for $130-150 that would be great cause with my board and hers together would be $341.66 and I'd like to reduce the longboard price by $40 somehow since my skateboard is $130. Thanks guys.

Thoughts on this for a first board?

I have ridden before but I want to get my own board and the one above seems to fit me best, but I am still unsure. I mostly just want to fly down hills and cruise. I have heard that replacing the bearings on S9 boards is recommended so I plan to do that.

Can I get anything better for a similar price? Thanks.

Oh gotcha, Im relatively new to longboarding so I didnt buy anything top of the line, but I like it:) this is the listing for it https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H755BFE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.aFcBbMVPAQJ2

My friend lent me his for a while and I fell in love with riding, so I had to buy one haha

I'm doing some research to buy my first board. I heard that the first thing to do is choose what I want to do with it. My idea is to use it for commuting, but my commutes are really long, so I started to look into Long Distance Pushing, since that is what most resembled it ( it's about 18 miles each way, so let's say 36 a day ) . I don't really know if I'll be able to skate that much, what I want is to push and feel like I'm actually going forward. I want to push and go fast without pushing 1000 times. I have a skateboard in my house but I can't use it because when I push I feel like the wheels are stuck or something like that. That skate is like 10 years old, so I thought it was because the bearings were dirty or something like that. I changed them. Nothing. Then a couple of weeks later I tried a longboard at Walmart. I could only push once and for less than 30 ft ( you know, space was a bit limited ) but I felt it easier. You know, like I could push once and go for much longer
Even though I'm going to use it for commuting, it's mostly for a trip I'm going to do, so it can't be THAT expensive. Before this, I was going to buy a Penny longboard because it's cheap ( 100 USD ) but I mostly read bad things about it from this sub and then again, the most important part is to push and feel. it. go. ( going fast without pushing 1000 times ) , so I thought maybe that wasn't a good idea
So... this is what I came up with. Tell me what you think and if I'm in the right path. Also, please tell me if I understood something wrong. If it helps, I'm 5 ft 5, 140 lb, and my legs are quite strong. I'm going for around 200 USD for my first time ( already double what I was going to spend on the Penny on the first time) :

  • Wheels: The smaller the wheels, the more they accelerate, and the bigger, the more speed they can catch. I don't know what I want here. I chose speed because the idea is to push the less possible so acceleration is less important. Correct?
Then, the harder they are, the more they slide, so I want the hardest wheels possible, right?
    I chose the orange Orangatang Kegels ( 80mm, 80a, 60 USD )

  • Bearings: I guess for what I'm looking I need the less friction possible. They have ABEC ratings although the two bearings I've looked up don't... The Loaded Jehu V2 (23 USD) and I've read this Bones Bearings(with spacers and washers, 16 USD) are superior in performance?

  • Trucks: The hanger width should match the width of the deck. I don't have a deck yet, so I don't know :/
The higher baseplate angle, the easier it is to turn. I chose 50-degree trucks, the Caliber II Fifty ( they come in 9 and 10 inches, 40 USD)

  • Deck: the closer I am to the ground, the easier it will be to push, so it has to be a drop deck. Now, every photo of LDPushing I saw, it was a double drop deck, but I read those are harder to turn, and if I happen to be on a hill, I don't want to go faster than around 20-22mph, so for that I have to carve, so if I can't turn... So I think a drop deck would be the best. Then, the heavier and longer the board is, the more it will maintain the momentum from a push longer, so I'm going for around 38 inches here maybe? That would be ideal, but I read that decks should be chosen by their width, not length, and since I chose those trucks, the deck should be roughly 9-10 inches wide. I'm lost here. Any recommendations? Remember that it has to be relatively cheap, but then again, at 20mph, I don't want to put my life in danger by a broken deck, so again, I'm lost. I've looked into this one (56 USD)

What do you think? This is about 210 USD including the helmet I chose, the Triple 8 brainsaver (36 USD)
    Am I missing something?

I want to longboard! But I don't know what kind of board to start with... I've seen the tailshaped and the "freeride" shape recommended, but I am not sure! I'll be using it for transport and cruising, mostly. I'm also not from the US, so I need to order from a store that ships to Denmark.

On amazon.co.uk I saw a Osprey Phoenix Twin Tip, but I don't know enough to judge if it's good quality. Can anyone help me? Also, if not from amazon.co.uk, this Danish store seems to be my second-best bet. Any help is appreciated!

That's true, I always end up separating things into classes. Should I avoid boards on Amazon that are best selling like these? https://www.amazon.com/Volador-42inch-Freeride-Longboard-Through/dp/B01N5NRZMS/ref=sr_1_4?s=outdoor-recreation&ie=UTF8&qid=1494559852&sr=1-4&keywords=longboard

I know in areas like music there are easily identifiable "shit" instruments, so is there any companies that are generally well trusted in the community?

I don't know if this is the best place to look for advice on the matter but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. My longboard was stolen in San Jose, CA and I found it on craigslist.

This is the board. https://www.amazon.com/Santa-Cruz-Skate-Skateboard-43-5-Inch/dp/B0043SI4FI

I let my roommate borrow it one night and he got drunk and forgot to lock his car and it was grabbed from the back seat overnight. This happened about 2 months ago but while looking for a replacement board today, I found my board on Craigslist.
The seller posted pictures and I know for sure it is my board. There is a distinguishing scratch on the trucks from when I skated over a huge rock. It is in the exact same spot and is the exact same scratch. The poster claims the board is new and has only been ridden a few times but I owned it for nearly 2 years.

I've texted them asking for a closer picture of the scratch just to make sure but at this point I am 100% confident it is my board. The only proof I have that it belongs to me is my amazon order history. Does anyone know if this board has a serial number that can be traced back to my order? Or has anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice would be appreciated!

u/AtticusDrake58 · 1 pointr/longboarding

I personally love this board and have gotten a lot of compliments from friends about how smooth the ride is and how easy the turns are. At 6’ I can also carry it by the truck with my arm in a rested position. However I don’t know what your budget is and this is upper-mid range pricing wise.

Complete newbie to skating, and I'm trying to choose between a longboard, electric longboard, and skateboard. I'm looking for optimal choices for each then picking one between the three candidates. For longboards, I'm looking for a quiver-killer with a design that isn't... ya know, flashy? Most of the stuff at my local shops and on MuirSkate seem to be really in-your-face designs, whereas the blue geometry and dark blue shinning sky designs from B BAIJIAWEI are really nice.

I guess what I'm asking is, how good of a brand is B BAIJIAWEI and how would I kinda work backwards to find a really good, long-lasting, beginner-friendly quiver-killer with an equally nice design?

EDIT: my computer shat itself and posted half of a comment

Hello,

My 8 year old is quite good with roller skates, but wanted to start longboarding. I was just about to place an order on amazon... but before doing that a quick google search (pointed to reddit) revealed that I should stay away from that store.

Is there a beginners longboard that you would recommend under $100?...

Are these considered garbage for amateurs?

I have $80 in Amazon gift cards to buy a first longboard for a birthday present for my girlfriend. Just looking for something nice and easy to cruse with. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what to get? Heres what I've picked out so far. Which of these looks best?

Open to any other suggestions. I know $80 isnt going to get me much, but its really all I can spare right now. Thanks guys and gals

Arbor Longboards are so nice. They're a little pricey, but totally worth it IMO. As far as style, pretty much all up to you. Longer ones are a bit easier to stay stabilized on but are more of a hassle to haul around. I'd recommend something like this. And yeah, you're gonna bust your shit a lot if you've never ride before so prepare https://www.amazon.com/Arbor-Premium-Complete-Skateboard-Black/dp/B01COADK0U/ref=sr_1_10?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1496799109&sr=1-10&keywords=arbor+longboard

Can anyone recommend a good downhill board for under $150?? I found this one on Amazon but I'd rather get the best I can possibly get. Any advice welcomed.

From my experience (newb), to downhill, you need to learn to slide. Coleman slide. I learned on a LY Switchblade. It was easier to learn on than my topmounted boards (and as a bonus, you can topmount the switchblade too). It is being sold for a comparable price:

Hey! Started longboarding just three weeks back. Went from a $20 nameless board that I bought off a friend to a Rimable 42-inch (though I traded the trucks and wheels between the two for the time being because the wheels that came with the Rimable are super stiff for lack of a better term).

Right now I'm concerned with a few things:

How do I get my front leg (left) to stop getting so tired when I'm pushing with my back leg? This only started becoming a big problem last week when I adjusted how I pushed so my right foot stopped hurting in the middle from frequent pushing. From one problem to another.

What can I do to get my board to keep momentum better when I'm going across flat surfaces, like sidewalks and concrete? I've noticed my friends seem to get a lot further per push than I do when we're going across flat sections of campus and originally just assumed that it's due to a big gap in experience, but now I'm starting to think there's more to it.

Is there a specific way to get the Rimable wheels to not be so stiff? They don't spin much, even when loosened to the point where they shake a lot from pushing on them. Unsure how to fix that.

Any answers and videos that can help me with these and just to continue learning would be appreciated!

Thank you for the reply, and considering what you have said, I have found these options. Is GLOBE a good brand to buy from? Also, I will be buying a whole board, because I can't risk not being able to have all the parts/not being able to put it together before I leave (7 days). Also, I am resorting to using amazon because of the fact that I have Prime and get free shipping. So, I have found a bunch from GLOBE (I actually tried out one of these in the store and liked it, but what do I know haha). Here are links to what I have found, do these look ok?
