Everyone is different so not every deodorant works on everyone. If one doesn’t work, try another, or adjust the ingredients in it (like baking soda).

If you cannot find these ingredients package free, that is okay! Some ingredients don’t really go bad and the deodorant lasts for a REALLY long time, so you won’t be buying stick after stick of deodorant, instead just use the materials in the video and you’ll have deodorant that lasts for months. IMO making this deodorant is better, and better for you, than buying sticks of conventional deodorant that has a lot of additives in it that can potentially be harmful for your health :)

Make-up:

Many people in this movement slowly taper off of using makeup, you are then not creating a demand for those products, which then reduces how much waste is being created. The beauty in that is that you can learn to embrace what makes you beautiful, learn to love the skin you have and it’s flaws. However, this is not always possible for everyone, so I will leave some links below.
You can also help the environment by voting with your dollar, choose companies that have good environmental packaging, good mission statements, etc. There are also brands that will take back makeup containers, like burt’s bees, try supporting them as well!

Books:
Try checking books from the library about reducing waste. Sustainable Home is good for beginners. Zero waste home, by Bea Johnson is amazing book!
The Hands-On Home is less zero waste and more seasonality and sustainability focused, which is divided into seasons and has recipes for cooking, preserving and home cleaning during each of those seasons. The author is based in the Pacific Northwest.

The Korean brand COSRX makes some great, sensitive products with AHA and BHA. Using products with tea tree oil might help, but be wary of anything that could potentially alter your hormone profile. The basics of Korean skin care are consistent, everyday use of a clear step-by-step process. I suggest this site for how-to.

You don't need every step necessarily, but I would start slowly with 3-4 and build up slowly as to not agitate your skin. The important ones for you are going to be the two part cleansing, toning, essence, spot treatments and ampules, and light moisturizer-- so about six of the steps or so.

Here are some things that I find help, and seem to be very popular for acne prone skin. I have used all these, as well as my sensitive, acne prone DH and had success:

   Finally, be very careful ordering similar "discount" products off amazon because it is rife with counterfeits from China. This can be dangerous as the contents of the product/ingredients are not necessarily listed correctly, which is a problem. Buying reputable brands from verified sellers or soko glam or Sephora is absolutely recommended. I get a lot of Amazon, but I always use Fakespot.com and also check the seller out carefully. If the well-known brand manufacturer is selling it direct to Amazon, that is a pretty safe bet.
   
   All of these thing start with the skin down, but also consider the bottom up. Look at your diet, look at your activity level, how often you clean your sheets, how stressed you are, and your general health. Have you been evaluated for gynecological or endocrine issues? It's a good idea to know that before you jump to conclusion. Make sure to consult a doctor, because sometimes our skin is a good indication of something off inside.

I tend to use coconut oil! But remember to always spot test, as what works for some causes breakouts for others. The damage is more of a long term thing -- so chances are you won't see any damage right away, but might pop up if you continue using it once your skin matures.

If your skin feels too tight after washing with salicylic acid (as mine does!), try using a cream cleanser. The tight feeling you get after washing with salicylic acid is essentially your face being stripped of oil, which provides the skin with it's elasticity, and your body will naturally compensate by producing even more oil, sometimes leading to an even oilier complexion. So something less stripping/more gentle, is a solution for some. In the past I've found 2 drugstore brands that worked for me:

I would recommend checking out /r/skincareaddiction, and maybe potentially looking into OCM (oil cleansing method). While I haven't personally tried it, I hear good things, and the lovely ladies and gentlemen at that subreddit are filled with good info.

The creases around your eyes are more likely to get oily/sweaty. Eye primer is a little bit denser and stickier upon application, and is meant to holder down (loose/powdery) eyeshadows. I find that it also makes applying gel liner a little easier. A little tube of it was around $7, and so far it's lasted me 4, going on 5, months. Face primer is a little more diluted, and it great as a lighter coverage under foundation. Note: I don't use face primer very often so someone much more knowledgable might give a better answer!

I've never used a high end liner, but this stuff is great! Lasts all day and it come with a little brush! :) If you have trouble getting the desired line you want, remember that you can take a q-tip and erase out.

Your face is a canvas and the make-up is like paint. Think about painting in layers if that helps.

That being said, here's my recommendation. You skin is your canvas so you gotta take care of it. Pay attention to your body/skin, everyone is different so use what is working for you. Exfoliate regularly, exfoliating helps clear up pores and scrub away dead skin. I do it daily, again do as much as your own skin needs to. My pores tend to clog easily so I try my best to keep it clean. I use something like this, just a slightly rougher bath sponge, squeeze a little face wash on it and lightly scrub - again this is what I do, your mileage may vary.

Regardless of how oily your skin is, moisturize it. If you have naturally oilier skin like me, use a lighter moisturizer (it feels lighter on your skin not as thick or creamy). conversely, use a heavier moisturizer if you tend to have dry skin. It doesn't necessarily have to be a "face moisturizer" product, lotions work also i've noticed. The point of all this is you want a clean and hydrated skin, it looks younger and healthier. I use, Aveeno's Men's After Shave Lotion. It get's two birds with one stone for me, aftershave plus helps keep my skin hydrated and is on the lighter side (won't feel greasy when it dries.)

The next layer in the painting would be concealer and foundation. Concealers are more pigmented "cover up" work. Using me again, i have slight rosatia/pinkness, concealers help neutralize out the redness to a more even skin tone. Foundation is a less pigmented but does the same thing essentially. Go to a Walgreen's or any drugstore and just look at the color samples. You'll want to color match to your neck so that your general face color blends in with your neck. Taking care of you skin takes time to get but when you get there you shouldn't need much concealer or foundation to even out your face. I like BB Cream No. 23, Natural Biege, matches my color fairly well.

You can pick either of those up or an equivalent product at any drugstore. People won't give you any grief, it's not too common but some males do buy coverup/concealers for acne breakouts so it shouldn't cause too much fuss to buy in person.

As far as applying blush, eyeshadow, liner brows ... the works, it's hard to type out and is best if shown to you. Beating a dead horse, watch the you tube videos and practice putting them on. You WILL get better. I did a quick look through amazon, this Shany Set seems like an okay kit. It has a various color pots to play/practice with. (color pot, the little containers that the actual make up sits in.) Your small round pots are your eyeshadows and the large round ones are your blushes. It looks like it comes with the applicators too, the fancy q-tip looking things are for eyeshadows and the bristle brush for blush. It also has the standard black and brown pencil eye liner, a pencil lip liner, lipstick and some nailpolish.

When it's all said and done, you've read all that you can or watched all the videos you've cared to watch. My best advice I can give you is take care of your skin and practice. Keep putting it on, get a feel for it and learn how certain things get applied. Eyeliner for example, you need to get used to the fact that there's something that close to your eye when you're trying to put it on. With time and practice it gets easier, your hand gets steadier and your eyes don't flinch as much.

Lastly, baby wipes or makeup remover wipes is good for taking it all off and these on a cotton swab is good to remove eyeliner without any trace.

GREAT haul! I love Lunasol, it's one of my favorite eyeshadow brands of all time (the others being Kate, also from Kanebo, and MUFE). I haven't tried the Velvetful Eyes series but I've tried their Skin Modeling Eyes, Scent Form Eyes, and 3 Dimensional Eyes series. My favorite is Beige Bronze (LE) from Skin Modeling Eyes. Also, Bifesta makes my all time favorite eye makeup remover. I've tried a lot of Japanese and Western eye makeup removers and that one is HG status. Let me know how the Bright Up Cleansing Lotion is!

I also see Majolica Majorca Lash Expander! They're constantly coming out with new versions of it. I got Lash Expander Frame Plus awhile back and have yet to use it but yea, MM makes my favorite mascaras of all time too :) You have made very nice choices!

There's nothing gross about what we refine in our appearances! But that is exactly where I started when I had my "enough is enough" moment. This blog post really helped me get a rein on it, and 6 months later my skin is virtually flawless so it works!

Ok, ok, ok! I totally have/had skin just like yours and I get cystic acne really bad on my chin/ nose area. I went gluten free, helped with the cystic acne, but oh mylanta the rest of my face was still terrible, AND DRY! So Proactiv was too drying and caused me to get so dry and irritated that I got eczema on my eyelids. Talking about adding fuel to the fire. So I have a girlfriend who had this face wash that she made me try, I was so desperate to try anything that I did. It was literally a bottle of oil... and made out of olive oil. Who would think to put oil on your face...not me, but I tried it. And immediately after using it I felt a difference. I used it three times the week we were staying together and my face cleared up, it felt softer and less irritated, and I was glowy, instead of red and puffy. TLDR I heard that using oil on dry skin wont actually clog pores and make you break out more, but that like dissolves like and it fixed my skin!

I am a patter/presser, using the whole length of my fingers, held together. I pat because it's a nice way to ensure even coverage without rubbing. I'm not 100% sure that patting has any other benefit, but I do know that rubbing my skin irritates it, so I pat pat pat away.
I BB with my fingers, and do a bit of.. not rubbing really - smoothing? Mushing the BB around with my fingers to spread product mostly evenly, then I pat it out to blend to perfection. In my head, rubbing moves skin, smoothing moves product only.

Edit: One thing that I super duper love is that I bought a pack of muslin cloths to remove my OCM leftovers/makeup, like so. They wash so clean, they provide a very gentle physical exfoliation, and they come in a big enough pack that I use one a day and never worry about running out.

I'm a red head with super pale skin. Had pretty bad acne but it's tons better now and my skin looks pretty awesome. Follow this routine.

My skin is kinda sensitive, and I enjoy using a variety of cleaners - but the wipes don't usually do well with my skin. My favorite for makeup is Sephora's make up remover, esp the eye make up remover liquid. I also like the face shop rice water cleanser set, because it has an oil cleanser you use with a normal soap cleaner you get a moist and smooth clean and the makeup really comes off well. I got the set based off someone's rec here actually. When I'm not wearing heavy makeup I often just use this swedish bar soap, which is very nice and doesn't irritate my skin.

I haven't tried the Too Faced Mascara Melt Off but I use a similar product (KIss Me Heroine Make Mascara Remover) and it's the best remover I've ever had. Swipe it on like mascara and in less than a minute I can just blot off even the strongest waterproofs... and it's less than half the cost of the Too Faced one.

I agree that the smell of Good Genes is too horrible to make it worth putting on my face. I gave them a second chance when I got a sample of their cleansing oil. Again, the smell is horrible. I don't want perfume in my skincare, but I don't want it to smell expired or toxic either.

Regarding Makeup Eraser - I know people tend to blow it off like, it's just microfiber, but not all cloths are created equal. Firstly, some microfibers are tight weaves that can be somewhat scratchy, other microfibers are very soft and loose, like stuffed animal.
Sephora and Ulta both have store brand makeup remover cloths that work very nicely. I like the Sephora brand one slightly more. The fibers of the Ulta one seem just slightly longer, so they hold water differently. I happy with both though. I also have these purple ones from Amazon. They are very thick and plush. I don't like them as much as Sephora & Ulta. Again, it's has to do with how it holds water and tugs the skin. I use them for drying my face.

I just bought a Hada Labo Hyaluronic lotion to incrorporate it into my skin care. My skin is kinda sensitive normal(not too oily and not too dry). I don't have much acne. My main purpose is to have healthy skin and slow aging process :) What I use now is:

Morning:

- Cleanse with water

- Apply some Aloe vera gel

- Sunscreen (reaply throughout the day if needed)

Night:

- Double cleanse ( The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Oil + Foam Set by The Face )

- One day I do retinol serum (link), another day I do AHA tonic. I am afraid of using them together

- Wait for 20-40 mins

I have oily skin, somewhat large pores on my nose, pronounced sebaceous filaments and acne scarring. I've done the OCM for about a year using the [AMAZING DHC Cleansing Oil] (http://www.amazon.com/DHC-Deep-Cleansing-6-7fl-oz-200ml/dp/B001UE60E0). I need to buy a new one about once every 6-7 months, and that's with one use every night.

I have noticed a huge difference in my skin. The OCM has helped me skin retain natural levels of moisture, and my body's sebum production is nice and regulated now. My skin still gets oily, but it's not an oil spill on my face..perhaps, almost making my skin "normal?". I have experienced no cons with this method or this product. The price point is extremely fair that having to drop MAYBE $60 total per year on the bottle/replenishment is hardly a con. The DHC product actually dissolves in water, so you can massage it on your face for as long as you want before rinsing it off with warm water. It's base is olive oil.

I really love this product and this method. Along with other regimen changes I've made, my skin is in the best shape (so to speak) of its life.

You need an AM routine! Your skin does look dehydrated, irritated and a bit sun damaged. (Note I'm only saying this from a "specifically scrutinising your skin" point of view. Aesthetically, it actually doesn't look so bad that I'd notice anything if we passed on the street. You're being way harsh on it, most guys have skin that looks like yours or worse and it is very very normal. Definitely not "can't face the public" sort of thing.)

You need to restore your moisture barrier and protect it from the elements. Try an oil cleanser like DHC or Kose Softymo, they are way gentler than foaming cleansers. You just gently smooth the oil over your face to dissolve sebum and dirt, and rinse it off.

Then a hydrating toner, which I would introduce AM and PM, on a wet face to hold in water. Personally I sandwich-layer Etude House Soonjung toner (good for sensitive skin) with Hada Labo Gokujyun Premium (hyaluronic acid and urea for hydration) a couple times, which gives my dry, dehydrated skin a plump dewy glow.

Then a moisturiser, maybe something with ceramides and cholesterol to help you repair your barrier, like Stratia Liquid Gold or Holika Holika Good Cera Cream.

Lastly a broad spectrum sunscreen. A mineral/zinc oxide sunscreen if your skin is sensitive. Just make sure it has an over 16 ppd or PA++++ rating to make sure you're protected from UVA rays which cause aging.

• Manyo Factory Galactomyces Toner and EVENPRIME Soothing Face Mist (I use the Manyo, since it exfoliates, one at night and EP one during the day)

Heroine has their own mascara remover. It works pretty well but... if you wear Heroine everyday, you'll run out of it quickly.

What I do now is wearing a lash primer (Etude House dr. mascara fixer) before applying Heroine. By the end of the night, I use an oil cleanser and slather it all over my lashes. I wait 5 minutes then it removes completely. No rubbing needed.

Yes, you do oil cleanser --> 2nd cleanser (it could be foaming, milk, micellar water, whatever works for you!) There are several oil cleansers that are popular around this sub. Off the top of my head:

A little pricey, but it's not just an eye make-up remover, it's for your whole face. It's heavenly. It takes even my heaviest eye makeup off completely and never irritates my eyes.

I am also a HUGE fan of Banila Zero which is in solid form but then literally melts the makeup on your face. They have three or four different formulas too. Really amazing and rinses with water.

Oil cleansing is the best, I don’t regret it. It removes everything easily and after I follow up with my regular cleanser. Is important to use a cleanser afterwards to remove the oil and everything with it. I use either the face shop rice water bright cleansing foam or cerave hydrating cleanser. The Face Shop cleansing oil, followed by The Face Shop rice water cleansing foam. It's a Korean brand and you can find a bundle with both for like $15 on Amazon. Both will last you a while too; the foam will outlast the oil by two or three times as long. And what's great is that Amazon has bundles of them so when you need to replenish it won't break the bank :)

Heard good things about the Some By Mi AHA/BHA/PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner. There's also COSRX, and the Benton Aloe BHA Toner. Another option is to use an oil cleanser like the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil.

And someone else over there just rec'd their dedicated Mascara Remover which I have not personally tried but I have generally heard is a good product :)

Have you tried makeup removal wipes. I'm fully time and don't need to hide, but these do an amazing job of getting the makeup off. I've found them to be much better than any of the solutions, creams and whatnot you use with cotton pads.

You can also get micro fiber reusable towel that will basically do the same things as the wipes, with no chemicals.

I used reusable microfiber cotton rounds. Great because they are super soft and machine washable.

I use this mascara remover. I have to use a bottom and top coat plus super waterproof mascara or it smears everywhere and this remover has been a lifesaver. It comes in a tube like regular mascara which makes it easy to coat on the lashes. I just apply it on my lashes before oil cleansing, then go about oil cleansing my face as per usual saving my eye area for last. By the time I get to my eyes the oil has sat long enough that all my mascara comes off very easily. I have a suspicion that the same effect could be achieved by putting a normal oil cleanser in an empty mascara tube but I haven't tried that yet since I still have plenty of my remover to get through. My theory is that the main reason this works so well compared to a normal oil cleanser is that the brush allows you to really coat each lash fully with the cleanser. Kinda like how some people use a wide toothed comb in the shower to distribute conditioner in their hair.

I would urge you to remove wipes from your regimen. People -usually- are too rough while using them, unintentionally. Use the lotion version of the hydrating cleanser wipes, instead. You rub it in, and then can use camp cotton rounds to GENTLY sweep off the makeup. Especially great for the eye area; all the pulling and tugging you do with these is so bad for your face.

I checked your post history to find a little bit about you. I see you like makeup! I found this makeup remover that has natural ingredients and is good for sensitive skin!

I used to have pretty bad acne but I help control it now by doing this -

Wash my face in the morning, lightly rubbing moisturizing soap (like Dove) for 60 seconds on my face.

After working out and/or at night when i take a shower before bed, wash face again, using soap for about 30seconds and then use Neutrogena Oil-free Cleanser for another 60 seconds.

Sometimes I workout in the middle of the day, in which case I'm washing my face three times a day. Always always, though, at least twice a day. It had a HUGE difference for me, and plus, it's cheap.

Your skin doesn't have to be dry or oily. It could simply be normal, which is good! A lot of people here enjoy double cleansing (i.e. first using an oil-based cleanser like this to remove makeup then using a regular cleanser to remove residue). I wouldn't recommend a moisturizer with BP, for it is drying and possibly irritating; usually it's used in spot treatments. Have you considered introducing an active?

You should try a tubing mascara! It's a different kind of mascara that removes with just warm water and shouldn't smear all over. L'Oreal makes one!

Otherwise, I have to double cleanse to fully remove my masacra. I use a cleansing oil to break-down my makeup then use a regular cleanser on a konjac sponge to fully clean my face!

For a lot of people the “fast” type of Japanese makeup removing oil is drying. I use a not as fast one from DHC which is a good bit more expensive ($28 on amazon right now) but it’s almost just as fast at removing makeup, can give you a really deep clean of your pores if you massage your face for a few min with it, and it’s not drying.

And for the most waterproof mascara I've ever encountered, I recommend Heroine Make Kiss Me mascara which is actually so waterproof that you need their special mascara remover. You could swim across the Pacific and it wouldn't come off.

[Also, as a female almost-MS2 currently doing an IM preceptorship, this makes me feel less ridiculous for putting on makeup every day so I don't scare off people.]

I use Bifesta Eye Makeup Remover. I typically put it on a cotton pad and then press it gently against my eye for at least 30 seconds, per eye. It does a pretty good job. I switched from a Neutrogena eye make up remover because it was irritating my eyes too and Bifesta does not.

Now that's one thing from TFS I won't change reguardless of what people have said about TFS. This set I havent changed in over a year and probably wont. I love how light it is and the subtle sent is amazing. My daughter uses the oil on her acne prone skin with no issues as well. She uses Benton Honest cleansing foam though. Ive been shopping for a new sunscreen though so I dont mind changing that to cosrx.

Before putting anything on, you might try these wipes. They’re available OTC and are non-steroid. I get the cracks at the corners of my eyes and irritated waterline. These wipes help. They don’t completely clear it up but do help.

It's a cleansing product. If you're looking for moisturizing stuff, I go with neutrogena (for the body) and mixa (for the face). I have a normal skin type, non oily, but with dry tendencies in winter. I also use a body butter 2 times a week, from nspa.

I take it off immediately with DHC cleansing oil. It's SO gentle and it will take EVERYTHING off. Even though it's an oil it will never clog your pores or feel heavy after it's used.

Maybe try double cleansing--you wash with an oil based cleanser first (I love this one) and follow it with a water based cleanser (like Cetaphil or whatever). I forgot the science behind why it deep cleans your skin better, but it's made a massive difference in my breakouts.

I love my witch hazel toner. It’s used after cleansing and before moisturizing.

As I understand, it balances your PH and gets rid of anything your cleanser missed.

I bought reusable face pads to apply it.

DHC also makes a good cleansing oil too!

Oh, SF are one of the biggest issues I have too! I tried Fiddy's method and no grits came out for me last week but I probably have to do it consistently, like once a week. I've got acne issues and so I use a new cloth everytime I wash my face. I like these muslin cloths a lot.

I use micellar water too, and I would do a second cleansing with an oil cleanser which took off the remaining mascara without any harsh rubbing!

They also make a specific remover if you want to try that out!

If you're that worried about removing mascara, they do sell mascara removers that come in tubes. I've been using the Too Faced one that came in my Sephora Play box, but a quick google search has pointed to at least one other.

If the disposable cotton pads are real cotton and not synthetic, you can compost them.

You can also buy reusable microfibre pads (they come with a mesh bag for laundering).

I've been using the cleansing oil and face wash set for a few months now and I've noticed a massive difference in my skin texture and tone.

I'm not prone to styes, but I did have an eyelid issue a couple years ago and discovered Ocusoft Lid Scrub Plus pads. You can often find them in the drugstore and they feel incredible!

I sound like a broken record recommending the Heroine mascara remover but it starts dissolving their waterproof mascara immediately! (Not sure about this version, bought mine in Japan and the tube is blue.)

I spent years avoiding waterproof mascara for fear of losing even more of my invisible blonde, straight, non-existent lashes, but this is a lifesaver!
