First, if you want to be healthy, then you need to feed your body properly. Learn about macros here:

Second, what's your daily eating scheduling like? Ex. just breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or with mid-morning & mid-afternoon snacks, or with dessert, and so on? I'd recommend picking one category & then working on building up a week's worth of recipes for that meal or snack eating period, so that you can add some rotation & variety into your diet. Then move on to the next category, do the same thing, and repeat until finished. That gives you a really solid foundation of recipes with a variety of flavors to choose from on a week to week basis. You can build up to more than just a week's worth of recipes as you find new recipes that you want to keep in your collection!

Slowly adopting a dietary change like this also allows your gut bacteria to catch up at a normal pace; a lot of people just dive right into it & have a rough first few weeks because their GI tract isn't used to all of the fiber & other stuff flowing into it. It's like when you eat bean chili after not eating it for a long time...it can cause havoc on your system, not because it's bad for you, but simply because you don't have the right gut flora built up so that the good bacteria in your system can properly manage your new standard diet.

Third, I would recommend investing in some high-quality tools. Note that you don't have to buy any of these, and if you do want them, you don't have to buy them all at once - totally okay to piecemeal it & save up for them! Here are what I'd consider the "essentials":

  • A high-quality blender, such as a Vitamix or Blendtec, that will last you a really long time & actually puree ingredients, not just blend them into smaller chunks like cheaper blenders do. This is an essential tool for smoothies & soups.
  • A food processor. A decent one runs about $40 on Amazon.
  • A really, really good knife. If I only had to choose a single knife for my kitchen, it would be my 9.5" Dalstrong Chef's knife. This is a $130 knife that performs at a $500 level. Really expensive for just a single knife, but also really good. If you're going to do raw vegan, having an amazing, incredible knife makes kitchen work fun vs. a being a chore.
  • Carbon-steel Y-peelers. These don't last forever, but they're cheap (3-pack for $10) & do an AMAZING job of peeling everything from fruit butternut squash.
  • A vacuum-sealer setup. Decent vac-sealers go for about $50 on Amazon. You can buy pre-cut bags or rolls that you can to size (use titanium scissors to cut the plastic bags).

If you have the budget available or are willing to save up, here are a few extra tools that are really good:

  • A juicer. There are two good options: masticating & slow auger. Good ones are not cheap, but will last a long time & give you the most juice possible. Champion makes really amazing masticating juicers, and their new model has an auger for greens as well. I have an older unit & really like it for both juicing & for making banana ice cream (throw some nuts & hemp seeds on top & it makes for a great breakfast!). As far as the other design goes, the Tribest slow juicer is one of the best-rated cold-press juicers out there.
  • Citrus juicer. This is basically a manual reamer mounted to a motor. You simply cut your citrus fruit in half, then press down, which activates the motor. If you do a lot of oranges, lemons, grapefruits, etc., this is worth having.
  • Salad Shooter Pro. This is kind of like a portable food processor, although it's way more convenient for shredding things. The fine-shred cone is sold separately & is the one that I use all the time.
  • If you have a large budget available, residential freezer-dryers are available for a few thousand dollars. They can be a bit finicky to operate (a lot of people spring for an oil-free pump), but if you plan on doing this long-term, you may want to start a savings program that runs for a few years to save up for one, as it has multiple benefits: it can store food for really long periods of time, and it helps reduce waste because you can freezer-dry anything that is about to go bad, instead of throwing it away or composting it.

    part 1/2
u/lordofthejelly · 9 pointsr/TheRedPill

Your list is good, however there's a few things you're likely to run into.

-------------

TL;DR: of what’s ahead

You only have so much willpower to expend in any given day, you probably can't pursue everything at once. To maximize your goal fulfillment, remember the following:

  1. Cut unnecessary drains out of your life.
  2. Figure out which goals are most important. You don’t have to pursue them all at once
  3. Figure out which goals (once reached) will make the others easier.
  4. Look for smart investments that will make your goals easier to fulfill (ie cost less willpower)

    ----------

In a nutshell, humans have a finite amount of willpower that we can expend in one day. There are only so many conscious decisions that you can make in one 24-hour period, only so many things you can force yourself to do.

And that’s fine, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. We’re all human, that’s how we are.

Think of as being like money, where you only have a finite supply at any given time. If you suddenly start expending more on one part of your life, one of two things will happen:

  5. You'll eventually peter out. You're spending extra willpower (or money) that you don't really have, and you can only do that for so long before you go back to doing what you were before. OR
  6. You'll keep at it, but you'll find yourself dropping the ball elsewhere...you have enough willpower (or money) to go after your new pursuits, but not enough to also keep at it with your old ones.

So you might take on new fitness goals but find yourself dropping the ball on your diet goals, similar to how you might start making payments on a car only to find yourself unable to pay the electric bill. Make sense?

That's the bad news. The good news is, there's a few strategies that you can use to stretch your willpower a lot further, adapted from the financial advice world.

    ------------

    1. "If you're in a hole, stop digging."

In other words, be prepared to make significant lifestyle changes.

For example, suppose you're using all your willpower just to get through the day without punching your boss in the face. Guess what, you need a different job ASAP...as long as you stay there, you will be so sapped of willpower/energy that you'll never accomplish your other goals.

Make sense? Look for the unnecessary willpower drains that you can cut out of your life. Your friends, your church, your job, your girlfriend. All are fair game, if they're only sapping your strength.

    -------------
    2. Some goals are more important right now than others. There is nothing wrong with choosing to focus on a few and letting the others go for now.

Financial example: I have credit card debt at 20% APR, and student loan debt at 8% APR. Do I try to pursue both equally, at the same time?

Answer: no. Obviously I heavily pursue the credit card debt first, and worry about the student debt later.

Similarly, I might decide to only worry about diet and sleep for now, and take on my porn addiction and lack of fitness later.

And remember: once you've established a good habit, the amount of willpower you spend on it will be significantly less than what you spend on it right now.

For example, right now you might be spending all your willpower on eating correctly. But a year from now, it will come naturally to you...at that point, eating correctly will be so easy that it doesn’t cost you any willpower whatsoever.

Then you’re free to start pursuing your fitness goals...now you easily have enough willpower to pursue both diet and exercise, because you didn’t try to do them all at once.

    --------

    3. In addition to #2, some goals (once they’ve become second nature) will actually make it easier (ie cost less willpower) to accomplish other goals. I call them “enabling goals.”

Sleep is the best example…if you are able to get the appropriate amount of sleep every night, suddenly your other goals all become easier and cost less willpower because you’re not so damn tired all the time.

So if you can’t do all your goals at once, focus on sleep (or other enabling goals) first. You get those down, the others will follow.

    Make sense?

    ------------

    4. A smart investment up front will save money (or willpower) down the road

Financial example: you ditch the junker and spend extra money on a car that is highly reliable and gets good gas mileage, saving you mechanic’s bills and gas money down the road.

    Personal goals examples:

  7. I have a lot of nutritional supplements that I take every morning and evening. At first, I was unscrewing every bottle, every morning and evening. I was a dumbass who wasn't putting any thought into it, and surprise surprise, I was failing. I just wouldn't get around to it.

Eventually, I bought four of these weekly pill organizers on Amazon. Now, I just go and fill them up once a month (not difficult), and pop one slot open and take the supplements every morning and evening (also not difficult).

  8. I used to try to eat greens...but by the time I was done, I looked like a cow chewing its cud and my jaw was literally tired. And again, I was failing at it.

Until I went and bought a used juicer...now, I juice once a week, and getting my vegetable intake is as easy as drinking it.

  9. One of the supplements I take in the evening (per #3) is a small amount of melatonin...this in turn makes getting adequate sleep much easier, which makes all my other goals a lot easier.

You get the idea? A smart investment can mean a far smaller willpower expenditure in pursuit of your goal. Figure out what’s holding you up, and if there’s something worth investing in to make it easier.

Easier = less willpower expended = greater chance of success & more willpower for your other goals.

    ---------

Now go start fulfilling your goals, TL;DR is at the top. Questions?

I like /u/mas_o_menos have an Omega. Mine is the NC800 but they are almost identical and both amazing machines. I highly recommend it for a few reasons.

  • I use to have a Champion juicer. It was really good but didn't do green leafy as good and couldn't do wheat grass at all. I also found it hard to clean myself.
  • Omega as you can imagine is easy to clean. You literally just rinse off 5 components - 7 if you include the bowls then lightly scrub 1 with a brush that comes with the machine. Super easy and just a couple of minutes.
  • My inspiration was Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. I suggest watching it if you haven't. Anyways that guy that did it is Joe Cross and he has the Mean Green which is the basis for most my juices.
  • My typical juice is 1 bundle of Kale, 2 bundles of celery, 2-4 cucumbers depending on size, ginger to taste, lime, 2-4 green apples. (I like to add Orange to mine because I hate veggies, red apple is another option or pineapple).
  • on a juice fast I suggest finding a good veggie broth for dinner. We added a sweet potato and I swear, it tasted just like potato soup (even though it was a sweet potato). Anyways it's nice to have a hot "dinner".

    Best of luck!

I don't want to talk out of my ass here or give you false hope, but if I were you I would definitely try to supplement my diet with green juices. The TL;DR of it is that if it works, it's better to spend money on vegetables and fruits, than on medicine which will most certainly have unpleasant side effects. What I'm saying is that medicine is certainly not a good solution, long term, and may create new problems for you that you or your doctor might not fully anticipate.

Get a slow juicer (aka "masticating" juicer) such as the Hurom Juicer:

https://www.amazon.com/Hurom-HP-Slow-Juicer-White/dp/B01H0YJQN0/

Start drinking green juice at least once a day if not more (If you want to know why a slow juicer, I'll gladly explain). Make sure you put a good amount of kale in there, it's the most important component. You can skip the others, but do not skip the kale. If you don't like the flavor you can add carrots, beets, apples and berries to your juice. In fact, add them anyway because they are very healthy and you'll certainly benefit from their addition beyond just the improvement in flavor.

I know some might say this is not 100% in line with the subject of this subreddit, but I would argue that the substances found in green juices are not too different from what you'll find in a good stack.

It's a pain in the butt to do this, make no mistake! You will have to buy those things in your local grocery store or farmer's market, you'll have to store it, clean it, and juice it. You'll have to clean the juicer once you're done. And you need to stick to this regimen for at least 90 days.

My first juicer:

Breville 800JEXLhttps://www.amazon.com/Breville-800JEXL-Fountain-1000-Watt-Extractor/dp/B0002VAFVG

But the high speed really oxidizes the juice and doesn't extract as much. Great if you want to juice 100 apples or 20 heads of celery quickly. But for quality, it leaves a lot to be desired.

My second juicer:

Omega J8006https://www.amazon.com/Omega-J8006-Dual-Stage-Masticating-Revolutions/dp/B001L7OIVI/

Worked well for me for a number of years, but didn't handle some greens very well. After following Lou Corona and making his lemon ginger blast every day, I upgraded one more time.

My *last* juicer:

Tribest GSE-5050 "Green Star Elite"https://www.amazon.com/Green-CHROME-COLORED-Masticating-Juicer-GSE-5050/dp/B075TFHVPH/

I find it makes the best juice, especially for greens (parsley, cilantro, kale, spinach, chard, etc). It's not great if you're only trying to juice, say, apples or oranges. For citrus, I used a $70 citrus press. For apples, I will use the Green Star but the apples should be pretty crisp and I may help move things along with a stalk of celery.

Yeah, it's pricey, but if you're serious about your juice and will make it a life-long habit, then it will be a good investment.

Lou Corona's Lemon Ginger Blast

  • 1 lemon
  • 1-3" ginger
  • 1-3" turmeric
  • 1/2 to 1 habanero (or omit and sprinkle in a quality cayenne powder to the final drink)
  • 1 apple (use green (granny smith) if you're fighting candida)
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 head celery
  • 1 bunch parsley (helps clean the blood)
  • 1 bunch cilantro (helps remove heavy metals)
  • 1 bunch mint (essential oils, good for digestion)
  • WATER: cut final mixture with 1/3 water; helps the body absorb the rest

The original lemon ginger blast can be made in a blender if that's all you have:

  • 1 lemon
  • 1 to 3" ginger
  • 1 habanero (or omit and add quality cayenne powder to the final drink)
  • about 3 cups quality water

.. then blend all ingredients in a Vitamix, strain and drink.
u/Spoonvonstup · 1 pointr/tea

Haven't tried yet, but I want to! Sounds like fun. We've got a Champion Juicer at home (which also makes great "ice cream" out of frozen fruit and bananas), so we're looking forward to freezing ice cube trays of teas and other fun beverages to make sorbet-like-things.

Someone on steepster iced and slushed some of Verdant's Laoshan Black tea awhile back. Sounds like they liked it.

I'll probably try a green Tieguanyin for something refreshing. Anything on the flavored-side would also be good (ala Kool Aid).

u/getpat · 1 pointr/Juicing

Couple of comments on a juicer:

I own a Breville I think it is a good juicer but cleanup creates such a chore I think it discourages my use of it.

I have investigated and believe the Champion Juicer is a better all around fit as it requires very little in the way of constant maintenance and its cost is in line.

Here is the link - http://www.amazon.com/Heavy-Duty-Commercial-Juicer-Color-Black/dp/B000E4C53M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373289445&sr=8-1&keywords=champion+juicer

I have met the owner of they company at a ExpoWest and they seem to have a passion for the Champion product.

I also like the pulp - so in general I use my Blendtec constantly and keep the fiber - I know many would say this is not juicing and perhaps they are correct.

u/vi_rus · 1 pointr/Juicing

> What helps greatly in this is the juicer you are using. A masticating juicer will get more yield than a centrifugal juicer especially when it comes to leafy greens - which is what you want in your daily juices - kale, chard, spinach. You can also look them up on WolframAlpha individually to get a good look at what each is estimated to contain. You can use fillers such as celery and cucumber. But most folks base their juices from carrots, apples. I enjoy using peppers (sweet peppers, bell peppers) as they produce a nice yield, second are beets. Try and stick with more greens and less fruits.

Unfortunately the juicer that I bought (Breville BJE510XL), is in fact a centrifugal juicer, not a masticating juicer. After doing some research, I realize that this was a poor decision and will return this one and go for a masticating one. Right now I am looking at the Omega J8005, which is #3 on the TopJuicerMachine.com page recommended in this subreddits sidebar. I am also looking at the juicer that you are currently using Omega VRT330. Besides one being vertical and the other horizontal, I can't seem to find the pros and cons of each one. Reviews wise, the J8005 wins with a 4.5 Star Average (239 reviews) while the VRT330 has 4 Star Average (76 reviews). Price wise, the J8005 also wins @ $252.43 while the VRT330 is $314.99. What are your thoughts on the benefits of each and why the VRT330 is more expensive than the J8005?

u/D3FSE · 3 pointsr/Juicing

Don't make juice for more than 24 hours in advance, it will go bad because it loses nutrients. Why is this?

**Once you blend or juice your produce it start to lose its nutrients pretty fast due to oxidation. Juice citrus with whatever you juicing to preserve it. Store it in a mason jar and fill it all the way to the top if your going to drink it later.*

Make sure that you have at least 2 speeds for your juicer. Some fruits will get blended to all hell and you won't get the juice you need. Is this true?

I can't really comment on a blender because I have a shitty one. I would recommend if you have to money to get a Vitamix, I heard great things about it.

Hand wash your juicer. But how often?
I hand wash it every time I juice, I don't know if I can put it in the dishwasher though. Its super easy and doesn't take that long to rinse it out and wash it in the sink. I would probably let it soak in the sink with a little bit of bleach if your using it every day probably once every three months.

A blender might be best for fruits. Is this true?

I don't really think so, your going to be getting a lot of fiber with blending though

Also, what kind of a juicer should I get? I was thinking it would be best to try a cheap one from a place like Target first. If I enjoy juicing, then I'll invest into a better one.

If your going to go cheap get this one
http://www.amazon.com/Breville-JE98XL-Fountain-850-Watt-Extractor/dp/B003R28HWQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368770188&sr=8-1&keywords=breville+juicer

If you have the money get this one
http://www.discountjuicers.com/omegavrt400.html
or
http://www.amazon.com/Breville-800JEXL-Fountain-1000-Watt-Extractor/dp/B0002VAFVG/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1368770188&sr=8-4&keywords=breville+juicer

The Breville's are high speed blenders and will create a lot of foam, but it will juice produce really fast. It also wont get most of the juice out of leafy greens.

The Omega is a slow juicer. You're going to have to spend some time cutting your produce in smaller pieces.

If you want to see both juicers in action check out this channel

Can you guys help me out? I've been searching this subreddit for awhile. Also, this is my first post. So, sorry for the formatting and possible grammer/spelling issues.
I would also recommend to strain your juice when your done, it makes a world of a difference. Also check out https://www.youtube.com/user/FullyRawKristina for ideas to add more produce in your life.**

25th year vegan , got my first juicer 20 years ago when i became a believer in the outlooks of the late raw foodist norman walker whom was one of the people that taught the late great jay 'juiceman' kordich . and ive come to see juicing the same way your putting it as in a vitamin pill , its also a medicinal tool . i particularly like juicing hard fruit n vegi along with medicinal type roots and leafys such as tumeric , parsley and ginger . reason i say hard fruit n vegi is because unless i use a slow turning juicer the soft stuff like tomatoes becomes foamy and untasty , but the slow turning juicers take too long for me to play around with on a regular basis . juicer number one with the 20% off coupon is 250 and its a gret juicer . 2 is even heavier duty and will last for decades . ide get thse two cheap books if you , ive read 100s books since going vegan and walkers my favorite outlook , notice reveiws at amazon . and notice reveiws at bbb for the breville elite .

I'll echo /u/fuelvolts: a blender is not what you want. I bought this juicer in 2013 and have zero regrets. It still works great, is easy to clean, and does a terrific job. You'll want to run the plup through a couple of times to extract all the juice though).

EDIT: If the price seems high: You get what you pay for. A juicer is an investment, and powerful motors cost more. It's worth the extra cost for the longevity and durability.

u/paulperson · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

Most people here have been advocating a centrifugal juicer, but in my honest opinion, getting a cold press juicer would be better in the long run. Not only do they extract more juice, but they also produce less foamy and higher quality juice as well.

Maybe something like a Omega Masticating Juicer or a Champion Juicer.

u/drdisco · 1 pointr/Juicing

I love mine. Great for greens, and clean up is a snap (although I don't really have basis for comparison given that I've never used the centrifugal variety). Also, it's pretty quiet.

This is what I got and it works great. I'm pretty sure it's a clone of the breville Big Squeeze at less than half the cost. I haven't ran into any issues so far, and if I do I bought the optional 3 year warranty as well.

It's a slow juicer so you get all the benefits of that, and a bigger yield.

u/hwillis · 2 pointsr/Skookum

It's definitely stupid but I don't think it's any dumber than a keurig, and those are insanely popular and profitable. Keurig has over 4 billion in revenues from their brewers and cups.

Honestly it makes sense to me why you'd make this. Fresh squeezed juice is a big thing right now with the ridiculous kinds of people who buy keurigs. Juice bars are a thing. People already play exhorbitant prices for fancy juicers and this is just the logical next step- fruit that comes in bags.

There are absolutely a gross number of people that will pay a thousand bucks just to be able to press a button on their phone and get a glass of juice from the room over. It's pretty much just this but with wifi and bags of fruit, for $75 more. I can see why investors thought that was a good deal.

u/sharpsight2 · 1 pointr/cancer

NOW is the time for you both to investigate alternative cancer treatment.

To fight cancer the body needs the right nutrition, removal of toxins and irritants, and therapy that's non-toxic to normal cells. Standard treatments are not wildly successful and can actually cause new cancers; they also disfigure and/or destroy the body and its immune system, making it harder for natural remedies to work if they are tried in desperation when conventional treatments fail, as they frequently do.

The first step your family should take is to move to an alkalysing diet that emphasises fresh (and mostly raw) pesticide-free (organic or biodynamic or home-grown) vegetables and fruits. Carrot and beetroot juices every day can be beneficial. Any meat should be not the largest portion on the plate and very lightly cooked or eaten raw (e.g. sushi/sashimi, or steak tartare), to preserve the enzymes it contains (this is important as protein-digesting enzymes are needed to fight cancer cells. If you cook meat through, all its enzymes are destroyed and the body has to supply all the enzymes to process it, diverting them from the cancer fight).

An important nutrient linked to preventing breast tissue abnormalities is iodine. Many are deficient in this substance: besides not getting enough in the first place, it's also displaced by other halides such as fluoride, chlorine (both of these in drinking water), and bromine (the latter is used in bread production). The best dietary source is kelp, or seaweed. Japanese women who eat their traditional, kelp-rich diet have one of the lowest rates of breast cancer in the world. Check out Iodine: Why you need it, and why you can't live without it by Dr David Brownstein.

Your family should also move to eliminate refined carbohydrates from your diet. No more sugar, bread, pizza, white rice, pasta, cakes, biscuits/cookies, muffins or other flour products (the book Life Without Bread is very good). Cancer feeds on sugar; cancer cells have more insulin receptors than normal cells, and they can also make an insulin like substance that allows them to absorb up to around 15 or 16 times more than a normal cell. This fact can be used in various ways, including IPT and PET scans in the medical world, and is used in the alternative therapy world too (fruits like apples and apricots have sweet flesh with bitter seeds which contain an anti-cancer substance called amygdalin (aka "vitamin B17"); there is also a maple syrup + bicarb therapy (important to take magnesium too with this, so you don't upset your calcium/magnesium balance).

Avoid anything containing soy, as most commercial soy products are unfermented and thus will block iodine absorption as well as protein & mineral uptake. Avoid anything containing high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Avoid artificial colourings, flavourings (including MSG, year extract, hydrolyzed anything), and artificial sweeteners. Do not cook with polyunsaturated oil - it is fragile and oxidises readily under heat or light. Monounsaturated oils are best for salads, and saturated fats are far more stable under heat and are the healthiest to cook with. Don't use margarine - butter is better (also contains vitamins A and K2).

Cod-liver oil is an important source of vitamins A & D, which work together. Vitamin D is essential for proper immune system function; your wife needs hers in tip-top condition. A warming sit in the sun every day will allow the skin to produce vitamin D (sulphur and cholesterol are needed for this reaction; eggs contain both of these things). In the winter, or if indoors for extended periods, cod liver oil is essential.

Vitamin C in large intravenous doses has been shown to be effective in attacking cancer in a way that is non-toxic to normal cells. Taking vitamin C orally can help, but it's not as effective as the intravenous method. A good vitamin C formulation will contain bioflavonoids, and will balance calcium with other minerals such as magnesium and potassium, like this one. That brand also contains zinc, which is an important mineral if you are going to be using amygdalin (vitamin B17) therapy.

Websites to help you start your research include: Gerson.org, Cancure.org, CancerTutor.com. An excellent book enumerating a number of alternative therapies is available from CancerTruth.net.

Documentaries that you will find helpful include: The Gerson Miracle, Food Matters, The Beautiful Truth & Dying to Have Known (online here; 1hr 19 min), Healing Cancer from Inside Out, Burzynski: The Movie, and the excellent new 2011 film Cancer is Curable NOW (you can find them on Amazon.com & elsewhere).

Don't despair, there are better methods to try than the drastic and barbaric conventional ones. Don't let orthodoxy awe you with impressive terminology, play upon your fears, and tell you everything but their advice is "wrong" in order to quickly usher you into their agenda. Cancer is not generally going to cause someone to drop dead suddenly: take a week or three and do some thorough reading and research. Get an idea for what is available before making a treatment choice. Meanwhile, you can start changing your diet today: everyone in the family will benefit, not just your wife!

That guy is pretty intense, but that Omega is definitely a great juicer option, if not the best option. Just throwing that out there.

That is my juicer. You can't beat this quality and type of juicer for the price. Super easy to clean, too.

u/lilcrunchee · 2 pointsr/Juicing

I got a discontinued Omega on Amazon for under $300. Works amazing. https://www.amazon.com/Omega-J8004-Dual-Stage-Masticating-Revolutions/dp/B001RLYOEE/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=omega+juicer&qid=1567521962&s=home-garden&sr=1-10

Good luck with your sobriety and with the hurricane, I know that has to be some incredible stress.

Are you looking for a citrus juicer like this or this; centrifugal like this; or masticating like this, this or this?

u/madjalapeno · 1 pointr/CrohnsDisease

We have an Omega Juicer - http://www.amazon.com/Omega-J8003-Single-Gear-Commercial-Masticating/dp/B000KHPFFI/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1343832748&sr=8-6&keywords=omega+juicer

Apple and carrot is always nice and refreshing, without being to much like compost water. Fresher, crisper apples work better than old flourer ones.

u/FaithyDoodles · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

We used the champion juicer to make it. It has the best texture ever. It's better than blender banana icecream from what I hear.

u/cryospam · 2 pointsr/mead

OK, so I went and bought myself a badass juicer and while it wasn't purchased specifically to make mead, it has made making melomel's much easier.

No more freezing and then mashing fruit, just toss them in using the included flat plate instead of the juice screen, and everything that comes out of the end goes into the conical along with the must.

I did one with watermelons last year where I added almost no additional water, only the juice (and pulp) of half a dozen watermelons (no rind).

It came out pretty good.

u/purpletube5678 · 1 pointr/Juicing

I have the omega, but I read you're trying to save $. I was using this one while I stayed at my aunt's doing a juice cleanse for 30 days. It was a solid performer, and greens came out dry.

haha; I almost got the Breville Die-Cast Juice Fountain Elite 299.99 but juiceguy swooped in just in time and talked me into getting the Omega Vert. I should be getting it before the weekend. I'll post updates :)

u/professor_doom · 2 pointsr/Juicing

I own the Omega VRT 350 and while I love it, the narrow pulp ejection chute gets clogged every single time. Be it a tiny bit of ginger, some diced celery or pineapple, that sucker gets jammed up. This review says it best.

u/mattschinesefood · 1 pointr/Juicing

You can do it! If you're flying, I would honestly just buy an Aicok juicer from Amazon and return it when you're done with it. Yeah, yeah, its dishonest, whatever, Amazon has turned to shit and personally, I feel fine with screwing them for a few bucks.

If you need it to store refrigerated medicine, I've heard that a hotel has to provide you with a mini fridge. Not 100% sure if that's true.

Just save the pulp and throw it away in the lobby.

u/mkhopper · 3 pointsr/Juicing

I bought this masticating juicer a few years ago.
It's held up very well and it's a snap to keep clean.

I got an Aicook.

Handles carrots, apples, pears, whatever.
You can always chop it fine to make it easier.

u/Hoogs · 3 pointsr/Juicing

Amazon has it for $323 with free shipping, which is a bit cheaper than on Omega's website.

Amateur Chocolatier here to answer some questions for others:

If you are interested in making chocolate this way, here is the juicer used mostly by individuals who make chocolate at home:
Champion Juicer

A commonly accepted method of removing the husk of the cocoa nib (this is called winnowing) is to use a hairdryer. You can read more about it here: Cocoa Bean Cracking Methods

There is a really serious subset of people who make chocolate at home, and if any of you have a few dollars to spare, you can do this with only a very minor investment. You can use a mortar and pestle or coffee grinder to extract the oils from the cocoa bean, also. They are very arduous tasks, but it works in a pinch.

I live in a fairly large city and have found some decent deals at my local Goodwill store. I found THIS juicer in near new condition just a couple of months ago for $25. Of course, it's always hit and miss with these stores, but if you have one nearly, it's worth a shot.

u/RedMikeYawn · 2 pointsr/Juicing

Correct, your juicer is not good enough.

Try to find a deal on a masticating juicer like this

u/flyinggeorge · 2 pointsr/AskCulinary

According to chocolatealchemy.com this juicer will make chocolate liquor. Keep in mind it’s unrefined.

To answer your question, I don’t think it would make it easier to remove the seeds, but you could try using a nut milk bag with this method. It could work.

u/willies_hat · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I have this bad boy. I use it almost everyday. It is very easy to clean, and you can teach anyone to use it in minutes. I've not extruded pasta with mine, but that is an option.

u/culraid · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

The European version (which would have a 240V/50Hz motor) seems to involve a +400% price rise:-(

More research needed. [Edit]Forgot the link

u/PotViking · 5 pointsr/Juicing

Yes, I have learned this! Problem is that the plastic got pitted and would build up shit, no matter how quickly I washed it.

I ended up getting the Omega J8003. We'll see how it goes!

u/Virindi · 1 pointr/hacking

> So everyone is complaining because this $400 machine is the same as a $20 blender

It's worse than a $20 blender, because the Juicero can only do one thing - squeeze their custom bags. And it was originally $700 - more than twice the price of a top-rated "regular" juicer that doesn't need special $5 bags of pulp to operate. Also, it will refuse to operate if your internet is down, or if the bag is even 1 day past their arbitrary expiration date. It really is the "Keurig of juicers".

u/thedudeisnice · 2 pointsr/Fitness

I juice about four times a week using this: http://www.amazon.com/Omega-J8005-Single-Gear-Commercial-Masticating/dp/B0002OKDT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1312572902&sr=8-1

It's a masticating juicer (I know, it sounds perverted) which is better for juicing leafy greens. It's a little pricey, so I'd say start with a centrifugal juicer first to see if you like it. Like others have mentioned, it's not a substitute for actual vegetables; you should really try incorporating a salad into one of your meals every day.

I think a lot of people who hate on juicing associate it with this complete lifestyle change, probably because lot of the people that advocate it come across as a bunch of hardcore, vegan hooligans (no offense to my vegan friends). But there's no denying that juicing supplies your body tons nutrients and phytochemicals that you wouldn't otherwise get.

A typical juice recipe for me is: 5 carrots, 1 apple, half a cucumber, a couple handfuls of either spinach or kale, and a few stalks of celery. The more greens I add, the more bitter the juice is. So if you're planning on using any of those veggies, start with a little.

Hope this helps!
