An issue is the over the counter brands are all body-cream quality, and not facial cream quality, so they're too heavy for summer wear, but they're decent for winter as a protective layer. Or you can use them as a mask, leaving them on for an hour or so, instead of wearing them under makeup

You're not really supposed to add any estrogen to your system without balancing it with progesterone, or you might get a hormone imbalance. So it's best to read a few references to familiarize yourself with those issues, and plan for using progesterone creams as an accessory to estrogen creams.

An estrogen cosmetic cream:

Life-Flo BiEstro-Care | Estrogen Cream w/Estriol USP & Estradiol USP | Physician-Developed Cream for Optimal Balance | 4-oz Pump

A companion progesterone cream:

Life-Flo Progesta-Care Plus with Natural Progesterone USP & Phytoestrogens | Physician-Developed Body Cream for Optimal Balance | 4-oz Pump

Effectiveness of estrogen creams

> As far as their success with dry, wrinkled skin is concerned there is one much-quoted study from the University of Vienna Medical School, Austria. The trial was conducted with 0.01% estradiol or 0.3% estriol on 59 postmenopausal women. After six months of treatment, a marked improvement in skin elasticity and firmness was noted; wrinkle depth and pore size decreased by over 60% in both estradiol and estriol groups. Skin moisture and collagen synthesis increased significantly.

  • Estrogen applied topically and benefits for skin

But bioidentical estrogen doesn't appear to work on sun-damaged facial skin. Studies suggest that bioidentical estrogen & estradiol creams ("bioidentical" = identical to human estrogen molecules) are NOT effective on sun-damaged skin, but are effective on non-photo-damaged skin, and this has led to mixed results in studies.

    > Two-week topical estradiol treatment stimulates collagen production in sun-protected hip skin, but not in photoaged forearm or face skin, in postmenopausal women and aged-matched men. These findings suggest that menopause-associated estrogen decline is involved in reduced collagen production in sun-protected skin. Interestingly, alterations induced by long-term sun exposure hinder the ability of topical 2-week estradiol to stimulate collagen production in aged skin.

  • Induction of Collagen by Estradiol: Difference Between Sun-Protected and Photodamaged Human Skin In Vivo

But if bioidentical estrogens aren't effective on sun damaged skin, estrogens made from phytosterols (estrogens from plant sources like soy) are more effective at rejuvenating skin.

    > Soy isoflavones, on the other hand, are a class of estrogen-like compounds, specifically genistein and daidzein. There are a few studies that suggest that soy is promising. In 2004, European researchers found that soy extract resulted in increased collagen and HA synthesis and “appears to rejuvenate the structure of mature skin”.

  • Estrogen applied topically and benefits for skin

Over the counter cosmetic creams like the one linked above are made with phytosterols, which have been seen to be effective than bioidentical hormone creams on sun-damaged skin.

Progesterone cream is also seen to have skin rejuvenation benefits:

    > In a study published in the British Journal of Dermatology, scientists determined that progesterone cream may help increase skin firmness and elasticity. Involving 40 peri-menopausal and post-menopausal women, the four-month-long study also found that progesterone cream helped fight wrinkles.

  • What to Know About Progesterone Cream

Non-cosmetic aspects about cosmetic creams containing hormones:

  1. they can cause pimples, especially at first, just like anyone can get pimples at certain times of the month. (I don't get any, tho)
  2. they can cause hormone imbalances if used improperly or excessively (read a few references to inform yourself before using)
  3. progesterone cream can be used to reduce the effects of PMS (a drop in progesterone triggers periods & causes PMS)
  4. estrogen & progesterone creams can be used to help with the discomfort of menopause
  5. if your hormone levels get low for any reason, they can make you look & feel better

    Medically supervised cosmetic estrogen/progesterone creams:

If you're concerned about handling the issues of cosmetic hormone creams without medical supervision, there are prescription hormone creams for cosmetic (skin improvement) uses designed to avoid any secondary hormonal effects, that a doctor can prescribe for you.

I hear you, it affected mine too. I've cut down to a smaller dose which may be the main help. But I found somewhere someone mentioned a product called DIM that helps with excess free estrogen. I've been taking that too and I think it's been a big help. I get bad night sweats which is a sign of estrogen issues (kind of like hot flashes in my sleep). I forgot the dim one night and I was sweaty again. So it's definitely helping with something. I also saw in the reviews for the product I bought (on amazon) a male bodybuilder even reviewing the product and saying it helped him. So I really do think it's going to help but of course I can't guarantee it!

If your “face” is something you feel is an issue, an active, yet subtle and non-surgical way you can help is by “softening” your facial features. Subtle changes in the skin, muscle tone, and the way your face stores fat and retains water will all help subtly reshape your facial features to give a more “feminine” appearance.

Also, have you heard of “skinny fat”?

Just because you’re 125 doesn’t mean that’s the end of the story. I have a friend who is just like you, 5’4”, 125 lbs, face like a mouse. Her legs are all flabby. She can pinch more than an inch on her lower stomach. She’s “thin,” but she’s also not “in shape.” Forget about the butt, because then we would just be getting cruel if we started talking about that (or lack thereof).

Forget intermittent fasting as a woman, because of kisspeptin. Instead, make a plan to go on a semi-therapeutic (80% calories from fat) ketogenic diet for 6 weeks, and then transition to vanilla keto (70% calories from fat) for the next 6 weeks, and then transition to classic Atkins (less than 20g of carbs per day, only fat and protein, but no fat targets) for the next 6 weeks, and then transition to a classic 20/40/40 (20% good unsaturated fats, 40% complex carbs and veggies, and 40% lean proteins sources like egg whites and free range chicken).

STAY AWAY FROM CARDIO!!! (10-15 mins of cardio MAX in any single day).

Start off with working out 3x per week for just 45mins per day.

Tues: Legs & Lower Back

Thurs: Abs & Core

Sat: Legs & Lower Back

Then move to 4x per week:

Tues: Legs & Lower Back
Wednesday: Abs & Core
Sat: Legs & Lower Back
Sun: Abs & Core

Then go hard on Sat & Sunday (2.5+ hours each day at the gym).

Start there. When you have a solid foundation, the rest has a way of taking care of itself. Suddenly, clothes you were too afraid to even THINK about THINKING about wearing will be things you’re curious about and suddenly feel a desire or interest in trying out and wearing. You’ll feel better and more comfortable wearing things you never worse before, and just look happier and more comfortable in whatever you wear.

Plus, you’ll naturally be less defensive, anxious and closed off (relative to before).

If she won't listen to you, you can direct her to this sub! We can vouch for the effectiveness of the herbal supplements! I've had great success with this combined pms support supplement and this specific chasteberry supplement. There are cheaper options for chasteberry but they're not concentrated and less effective.

She should definitely try therapy! They can really help with finding new ways to control anger/depression and keep them from becoming big issues.

If she's purposefully hurting you than leaving is the best option! It's not fair to you and you don't have to put up with it! Don't answer your phone and let her be offended, she'll feel better afterwards that she didn't hurt you and not having that guilt around can in turn, help with the depression.

I hope things get better for the both of you!

u/GlitteringElevator · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Hormonal acne is obviously due to hormonal imbalances, aka why it's called hormonal.
I don't want to take birth control so I did research and found out about Diindolyl-methane aka Diim, as a natural alternative to treat hormonal acne.

It's found only in cruciferous veggies like broccoli, but you could never get the amount you need from eating it.

It helps your body metabolize excess hormones which in turn also helps your PMS/Menopause symptoms! Jane Iredale makes a blend but it's like $60.

I get mine from Smoky Mountain Naturals. It definitely makes a difference. It's totally affordable and has great reviews on Amazon too.

But yea! The urinary issues are also because of this!

Talk to your OB. Get a cream.

There's an otc you can get off Amazon that is okay but not as good as the prescription stuff in the meantime.

(Bioidentical) Estrogen Estriol Cream. Supplements 175mg of USP Micronized, Bio-Identical Estriol- 3.5oz Pump. For Women during Menopause. Weight Loss, Vaginal Dryness, Wrinkles & PCOS

You really want to get it up there. Don't worry, while estrogen does enter our blood stream and milk, it's not enough to harm the kid at all. I checked 😂 it's super negligible amounts.

I'd also make sure you're always using lube like this one

Astroglide gel

And plenty of it 😂

And this: replens

Isn't the vagina such a fickle bitch?😂

Seconding all the comments about incorporating acids into your routine. Just try out one at a time and don't nuke your face - start with a daily, gentle aha or bha. Also, many people with acne are over producing oil because their skin is dry, so drink lots of water and learn about the difference between moisturizers and occlusives over at r/skincareaddiction.

I love this acid

I'm not usually one to take a ton of supplements, but I also developed sudden hormonal acne in my late twenties, and it nearly broke me. I went into whole foods crying one evening because nothing was making a difference. The girl gave me this to try. You take it twice a day therapeutically for a month or so and then once or twice a year after that. My skin began to clear up within a week of starting it, and then all the new skin care tips I'd learned kept my skin looking amazing. I'm actually kind of grateful I had that experience now, because I take much better care of my skin.

u/thingsthingsthings · 1 pointr/Anxiety

Yay! I really hope it works for you. I def had PP depression although I wasn't really aware of it at the time (strange as that sounds). Luckily the anxiety held off for a bit, but, yeah.

Here's what I'm using:

Wise Essentials Wild Yam & Progesterone Cream - With Chaste Tree Berry -For Menopause and Mid life Changes. 2 oz No Parabens No Fragrance - Doctor Recommended https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001S5QPU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_l5DFxbZT2CDD2

I use the tiniest dab possible. Like, maybe the size of a BB or something, and I rub it on my wrists. (Location is important, I've read, because it affects absorbability.)

Also, I bought vitamin B6 and I've been taking that too. Seems it can also help to alter the estrogen/progesterone ratio (but not nearly as dramatically).

u/o0Panda0o · 3 pointsr/PCOS

I've been taking 1tsp of each every morning for a year and a half. I've seen huge improvements with ovary/menstrual pain, and it has shorten the length of my periods (from 10-12 days to now 5!) Moods are much better as well. I add it to my morning smoothie but i can be mixed with water, it has a light sweet taste.
I also use Vitex which is suppose to help with Ovary health. It helps with pain for me.
I used to add NAC with it, but I don't use it as often. It has a very strong sulfur odor/taste. It was difficult for me to take because of that.

This is the progesterone cream I use. I read good things about getting micronized people that you need a prescription for, but honestly I just wanted to give this a shot and I'm pretty darn happy

Amazon, shady I know, but I’m pretty sure I’ve posted the link here before. All my research looked like the company was reasonably legit and it’s working so far for me so I trust it.

I’ll post the link again for you when I find it.

Edit: This is the one I found to be the best price with the most estradiol. They also have a progesterone cream that I use on my ass face and breasts that seems to work really well for me. https://www.amazon.com/Estrogen-Bioidentical-Estradiol-Management-Professional/dp/B07DFVL6WD/ref=pd_bap_m_rp_1/142-9787996-6513601?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07DFVL6WD&pd_rd_r=42caa06e-b6a0-438a-9042-d2aa65a5a310&pd_rd_w=OFq48&pd_rd_wg=dafqK&pf_rd_p=c3219280-80f4-43e6-abee-1a8cf87bc0ee&pf_rd_r=RECS8J54Q9C01CHHWQ1E&psc=1&refRID=RECS8J54Q9C01CHHWQ1E

u/roundabout25 · 2 pointsr/asktransgender

I've used both. I have actually (personally) seen better results from the over-the-counter cream than the prescription. I use this cream.

Different people see different results from different administration methods, from what anecdotal research I've managed to piece together on my own. From the personal accounts I've read, as well as my own, I have seen a trend towards the cream being the method that has given "impressive" results (although I'd rather not call it miraculous, as it's purely anecdote and whatever the mechanism for progesterone-related breast development in trans women is, it is woefully underresearched. Maybe something to do with oral bioavailability of progesterone/two passes through the liver being more de-potentiating than oral usually is? Maybe it's actually nothing and there's a huge selective bias towards people sharing results when they see results that would've happened anyway? Who knows, I ain't no biologist).

I have also used the oral prescription. It did help a little bit, I think, but not very noticably so. Some people have seen results that they've been extremely happy with, some people have had the same experience as me. It was nice for mood and sleep. If you go the oral route, make sure you get bioidentical progesterone (prometrium or a generic version). medroxyprogesterone, the nonbioidentical version, is very likely to fuck your shit up; it works for some people, but overwhelmingly people have bad experiences with it.

I'd start with the cream since it's easy to get ahold of, and try a bioidentical oral one if that doesn't work for you after a few months. Make sure you run it by an endocrinologist or doctor who you trust to make sure you don't have any preexisting conditions that progesterone could exacerbate. Also, warnings about cream:

  1. Applying it directly to the breasts is a huge cancer risk. I did it for a little while (I apply it to my sides now and I've seen no change in growth), so I can't really say not to do it, but don't do it.

  2. If you're in a relationship or have any people or pets you have skin-to-skin contact with regularly, do your best to apply it to an area that they won't be directly touching, or that they won't be licking. Don't be the person who gives poor fluffy some boobs.

  3. Be very careful with your dosing, err on the conservative side, and while it's not a given, expect mood instability until you figure out how to navigate it.

That's a lot of text that you didn't ask for, and you may have already known most of this, but I had to piece a lot of this together and if you weren't aware of it I'd much rather you know everything going in. Given that there is so little research and information available on exogenous progesterone, it's important to err on the side of caution and preparation. Have you done anything different with your diet? Some people have had success with a reduction or elimination of dairy and sugar?

Also simpleskincarescience.com recommended a pro biotic called pro-15. I’ve been taking it and I’m happy with the results. Another user recommended a supplement called DIM.
https://www.amazon.com/DIM-Supplement-BioPerine-Treatment-Inhibitor/dp/B006KL4TYG

I’ve also been happy with this supplement as well.

sounding like a broken record

The same redditor that recommended DIM recommended pantothenic acid.
https://www.amazon.com/Solaray-Pantothenic-Acid-Capsules-Count/dp/B000I4AHEC

I tried taking the 500mg, but I got really bad headaches. And it was already in another supplement I am taking by Murad. It’s vitamin B5, and I’ve seen other redditors say they get breakouts from B vitamins. 🤷‍♀️ I break out from anything Biotin, even topically. I was using a shampoo that had Biotin in it and I had to kick it to the curb.

https://www.murad.com/product/acne-pills-supplements/

I breakout in my “beard area” of my face. I feel like if I don’t put on a drop of the Ordinary’s niacinimide on my beard area first in my routine I will get clogged pores. I also wash my face and put on TO niacinimide and salicylic acid on my face before I work out.

Have you tried putting eucerin healing skin cream on it? (The red top) I’m convinced it works miracles. Do a patch test first.

Sorry if you heard all this before but I’m just trying to help.

Hi pals! A little face gains Friday pic!

I started taking DIM with a complex of herbs that are supposed to help balance hormones. I am also taking 2000 iu of D3 because of something I read over on r/ketoscience earlier this week. Vitamin D is fat soluble, so when we lose fat, we lose vitamin D. I'm giving it three months and we'll see if the proof is in the protein shake.

I made pizza rolls for dinner, which turned into pizza blobs. I am going to try the dinner roll recipe as intended with packing a pan, but that was a mess. I was tired and done, and dealing with fathead dough when tired and done is a bad idea ^TM . I did find mini pepperoni at Walmart and they are adorable! I also picked up a pack of beef ribs to cook in the pressure cooker Sunday with some other long cooking beef and wine.

I picked up some of u/caffeine_iv_stat favorite Premier Protein shakes in Peaches and Cream. Will be a nice addition or meal replacement for busy days.

I'm feeling good, a little bloated, but my downward scale trend continues. I did my standing push ups last night and really felt it in my arms. Now to make it through work day #6 in a row and #7 tomorrow. Sunday will be a blessed haven of some projects, cooking, and relaxation.

Happy to share! I used/am still using Emerita Pro-Gest (http://www.amazon.com/Emerita-Pro-Gest-Cream-tube-PACKAGING/dp/B000IMQE5U/). A quarter teaspoon twice a day. If you search for the word "pregnant" within the Amazon reviews there are lots of reviews from people who used it to conceive, in what dose, and for how long. Good luck!

u/emilybubbles · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Oh yeah, my periods... well, I'm barely functional the first 2 days. I would definitely suggest taking an iron supplement, it helps.

If you can, you should probably discuss with a doctor, but there are definitely steps you can take on your own to help get your hormones back in check. The article I linked + my own routine should help.

This is the OTC progesterone I use, to give you an idea of what to look for: Progesterone Cream 4 Ounces https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00X2S4RXI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_MnKhAbTKH62X7

I don't use the full recommended dosage because too much progesterone can backfire badly, but that's just me.

DIM (https://www.amazon.com/DIM-Supplement-BioPerine-Menopause-Inhibitor/dp/B006KL4TYG) & CDG (https://www.amazon.com/Source-Naturals-Calcium-D-Glucarate-Tablets/dp/B000GFSVSW) are both supplements that help regulate estrogen that I learned about from reading various men’s health forums. Dr. Saya and Dr. Crisler, two pretty prominent MDs in the men’s health field also endorsed them. Neither of them require a prescription and I purchased them directly from amazon; links are provided above.

> DIM. A natural broccoli extract

Hi - I know this is an older post, but I just started Clomid and came across this while researching.

Is this what (DIM?) you take? https://www.amazon.com/Capsules-BioPerine-Broccoli-Vegetarian-Metabolism-DIM-250mg/dp/B01N7Y2WFW

Do you feel it helps to reduce excess estrogen?

Thanks!

DIM

Calcium d-glucarate

Myo-insitol

Hope i can help

XD I swear I'm not a shill, this is just the one they had at my vitamin store. Any of them should work well though as long as it's 500mg/oz or more.

u/TensaiHilra · 1 pointr/asktransgender

sure... although remember... it's best you start on T blockers. To get something like spiro, you need a prescription.

I use this, 1 pump morning, 1 pump at night.

I am using these brands. The top link is a little thinner, and seems to absorb faster. Plus, my skin feels a bit softer. 💕 E

The best way is to get a dr to prescribe a pharmacy strength version but I see people recommending this from amazon for a lower strength version that’s otc https://www.amazon.com/Emerita-Pro-gest-Cream-Tube-Packaging/dp/B000IMQE5U

u/iama_username_ama · 1 pointr/asktransgender

My endo doesn't like to perscribe it either, so I buy the cream off amazon.

One thing to note is that topical cream is actually much better than pills here. Progesterone absorbs really well through the skin and really poorly via digestion. That means to get the same effect of 20mg in cream, you need to take 200-300 mg in pill. Most of that never makes it to your blood stream and it can be really hard on your liver.

If you are curious, this is what I use. 1/4 tsp twice a day.

My wife has PCOS-like symptoms and she's been taking this with some success so far: http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Health-International-Femmenessence-Macaharmony/dp/B006ICPDHO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1397507267&sr=8-3&keywords=femmenessence

We're going to do another one-month salivary hormone test after she finishes the box to see if it what effects it has had on her hormones.

Also, I've been taken the male-version of this supplement and it's been helping me sleep better and possibly fixing my HPA dysfunction ("adrenal fatigue").

I was taking a vitex/DIM combo and it was very strong. It seemed to help normalize my period. I don’t take it anymore because it would cause me headaches sometimes. Now I take this one: DIM

The progesterone cream definitely lowers the severity of my cramps. Also, my body used to really struggle with starting the period. I would have a whole week of cramps. Now I only have one day of cramps. I take it from day 7-end of cycle. Here’s the one I take: Progesterone

u/loki1717 · 1 pointr/asktransgender

I just started using this one about 4 weeks ago and have noticed a significant amount of growth (for that time). I apply about a dime-sized dollop every morning to each breast.

I'm on: ~3.6mg E/5mg Cypro per day, for about 22 months, and 100mg Oral Progesterone for about a year, and was about a 36AA four weeks ago. I haven't measured since I started, but I'm definitely start to fill into a 36B at this point.

I use the Emerita Pro-Gest that comes in single-use packets ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002FJW4F8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_qLXYCbA9EE3VW ) so I know I’m getting the right dose. You just put it on your abdomen, thighs, inner arms, or the like. I was told by my nurse practitioner to use it on days I’m not bleeding. Some people use it daily, though.
I’ve been using these patches for a couple weeks now, and I’ve been sleeping much better (

Menosan 100 ml Sage Tincture https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002MSW15A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_svC6AbVF6RNCV

and then I take one of these before bed:

I've also started taking my Lexapro at 1pm, I felt a little bit of insomnia the first day but it's been fine after that and when I have a night sweat now it happens at about 6-7am

u/MeatCat88 · 2 pointsr/PCOS

Progesterone cream will induce a period but it's the same type of period you get from birth control. I use https://www.amazon.ca/Life-Flo-Progesta-Care-Progesterone-Menopause-Phytoestrogens/dp/B000FFCXZ0/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1502033396&sr=8-4&keywords=progesterone+cream

They say the best way to use it for PCOS is to take it for the last 14 days of your cycle so If you started your period on Aug 1st, you start the cream on the 14th, stop on the 28th then you're period will arrive.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I don't normally get sinus infections but I've had this cough for weeks that I haven't been able to shake. Recently I have upped my B12 and Iron to see if that helps. I have taken a prenatal for years but there was a study a while ago (I can't seem to find it right now but will keep looking) saying the multivitamins aren't as potent as individual vitamins. I also just ordered this to see if it will help: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076B38WPS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_..e3CbZXJ0HAD. compared to Europe's Amazon stores, the U.S. version actually sells a mixed E2/E3 cream ( https://www.amazon.com/Estrogen-Bioidentical-Estradiol-Management-Professional/dp/B07DFVL6WD/ ) which should be ok, esp. if you don't need max. feminisation if you're looking for enby-hrt or similar - however, the Estrogel you can get through various online pharmacies might have more E per dollar anyway..

Those are conjugated estrogens. Nasty stuff, and not prescribed very much anymore.

>Because I found bioidentical estrogen for sell on amazon. If this is what it seems like, then it is great for me because I can’t consume animal products, and I can get HRT w/o prescriptions.

Thats sourced from yams. Not a good source of estrogen.

Most of the estradiol that we use is bioidentical because it is synthetic, i.e. manufactured.

Yes. I started using progesterone cream from days 14 of my cycle-period. 40mg/day. Estrogen dominance is often the reason for Pms/PMDD, but western medicine doesn't often acknowledge it. This stopped for me once I used the cream. I use Emerita Pro-Gest Balancing Cream.

I'm tempted to post a pic of all my blankets... I have three or four which I swap out during the night as I'm freezing when I go to bed but then wake up in a pool of sweat!

One thing that helps my insomnia/palps A LOT - Emerita brand bioidentical progesterone cream. I use about a dime-size dollop, or even less, every couple of days, 3 weeks out of the month (I start it seven days after my cycle begins.... 3 or so days after the crime scene stops. ;))

They say to put it on your thighs but I'm really sensitive to meds so I put it on my shoulder every other night before bed... can't say enough how much it's helped me. Expensive but worth it. The only downside is a touch of nausea, but I find Pepto or ginger tea will alleviate that.

> Yeah, clomid increases estradiol, an estrogen, so that should explain your emotional state.

Yes. I also didn't have an erection for three weeks, got acne, and got sensitive nipples starting Clomid. I started taking DIM every night before bed to get the estradiol down and that fixed the other issues and got the emotions a little bit under control. The combination of both DIM and taking 1/2 tablets instead of full tablets of Clomid made me feel emotionally/sexually/mentally/physically OK.

> You may not be capable of natural production.

My LH is within but at the very low end of the "normal" scale without Clomid. With 75mg/week of clomid, LH is just below the midpoint of the normal range. After dropping from 75mg/week to 25mg/wk over 7 weeks my free T dropped from 450 to 330. I felt AWFUL both mentally and physically during this period.

My endo asked me to cut all the clomiphene for a month to see what happens. I feel less awful now, but not quite right either. I expect I'll be discussing shots vs returning to 75mg/week of clomiphene in another three weeks...
