So, on a whim, I tried the only set of replacement straps on Amazon Prime: Alemon Replacement Straps
I can't say too much about them as they only arrived today and I haven't gotten a chance to really skate them, however I can say the following:
They do fit the NEXT boot with no compatibility issues. It was a very easy swap and they securely fastened to the boot exactly as the OEM ones would.
The buckle has the same basic design flaw as the OEM buckle. That is, the mounting screw is ahead of the buckle itself instead of behind. This causes the forces of the strap to pull the buckle up instead of across. Since the OEM buckle has the same problem, this is kind of moot in terms of comparing the two.
The strap itself seems tougher and to have tighter tolerances than the original. I can confidently say that I already prefer the strap to the original.
The buckle is a push to release instead of a pull to release. I can see some pros and cons of both, it doesn't make a big difference to me, but maybe someone else can chime in on that.
The OEM and Alemon parts are interchangable, you could use the OEM strap with the replacement buckle, or any configuration you choose. I chose to replace both the buckle and the strap.
