This is from 747 by Joe Sutter. It's one of many "mockups" for interiors that was never actually built.

The 747 was also considered a throwaway design. Boeing estimated that they'd sell a few dozen of them for cargo only use and barely put any effort into it. The SST got all the resources and the best engineers while the 747 was designed by the B-team.

When the SST went belly up, the 747 was all Boeing had left. Amazingly, it went from drawing board to finished plane in only about 1.5 years. It singlehandedly saved the company and brought air travel prices down enough that ordinary people could afford it.

I would highly recommend reading the book by Joe Sutter, who was in charge of the whole 747 team during that time. A surprisingly good read.

> modern airliners

The coolest thing is the 747 has been in service since 1970. They are known to be robust and forgiving airplanes to fly.

I recommend this book by Joe Sutter, head engineer of the 747 project.
