If you are looking for alternatives for a pro contoller I would recommend the [8bitdo SF30 Pro Controller] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0748S3GXG/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza?th=1). Release's December 10th for 49.99$, features motion controls, rumble, home button and screenshot button.

Tried Original XBox One controller, the Elite Controller, and the Newer generation of XBox One controller, none work. However, some 3rd party controllers work FLAWLESSLY. My favorite as per Bang for Buck is the 8BitDo SF30/SN30 Pro controllers. I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0748S3GXG/?coliid=I2HFDMR6EJ9UYI&colid=2D8IQSFW79VCZ&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1 and I plan on getting the other color soon. It works flawlessly both Wired and Wireless.

When you turn it on, you hold down a button to decide which "compatibility mode" to boot it in, each of which can have a seperate bluetooth pairing. I have the Direct Input mode paired to my phone, X-input paired to my Chromebook, and the Switch mode paired to my Nintendo Switch. I don't own anything from Apple, so the Mac/iOS mode isn't very useful to me, but seeing as how this thing replaced 3 controllers for me for less than $50, I can't complain.

I haven't tried pairing it to my XBox or my PS4 yet, but I can say it works fantastic with Android, ChromeOS, Windows, and the Switch. It even has Motion Sensing/Gyro when connected to the Switch! Battery life is also ridiculously good, I'm at more than 30 hours of use, about 1.5 to 2 hours at a time, and I still haven't had to charge it yet (Charged it when I got it at the end of January, and I've used it for less than 2 hours wired, all the rest wireless.)

Edit: Tested Wired and Wirelessly with both my Lenovo C630 and my Wife's Samsung CB+ V1. Works great on both.

You can pick up a [pro controller] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NAWKYZ0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ppPRAb0973YMC) or really any Bluetooth controller, up to 8 total connected controllers (joycons can be used together as one or separately)

I'd like to get the SF30 Pro Controller that resembles SNES Layout.

Can someone versed in German tell me what is the difference between these 3 controllers that all appear to be the same product?

I'd love to buy one from .com but the p&p + import fees make me want to kms.

Also co.uk usually has the worst exchange rate from pounds to euros, so not too happy about that one either.

u/YodaLeiaHoo · 4 pointsr/AndroidGaming

I was on a similar quest. I landed on the 8bitdo sf30 pro. It's fantastic. Easy setup and if you get the xtander clip, you can attach your phone to it. Check out my old thread for more of my feedback.

u/luis1luis1 · 3 pointsr/EmulationOnAndroid

When I mentioned acts as a case, thats what I had in mind. something that protects your phone and it can slide out to show buttons and a d-pad or something if you wanted to game.

I really want this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0748S3GXG/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1

I have no problems with using an attachment to hold the phone above the controller but its just too big. wish it was thinner.

u/viral_dna · 3 pointsr/miniSNES

I can't decide which one to get now!

I bought an incumbent bike a couple of months ago and I've been riding on it for an hour a day, 5-6 days a week. Last month I got the idea to start playing games while on it to reduce the monotony. Been emulating games on my phone with this controller so far, but I could see this being just as viable with the Switch. First game was the first Paper Mario, now going through Fire Emblem(GBA).

u/Jandalf81 · 3 pointsr/RetroArch

This is the right answer!

This is what you'll need as a bare minimum:

  • Raspberry Pi, the latest revision 3B+ costs about 30 USD
  • SD card with about 8 GiB, under 10 USD
  • Micro USB wall charger, around 10 USD
  • USB controller, around 8 USD

This will be around 60 USD all in all. I advise you to go the extra mile and get a nice case and a really good controller.

There may be cheaper ways but this is by far the best I have tried! Please note that you'll need a little bit of technical knowledge to "burn" the OS onto the SD card (the Pi does not have any hard disk). All the necessary steps are described here:

You could get an 8bitdo controller & wireless receiver. It would be cheaper than getting a classic or classic pro controller. Dunno how good they are tho.

If you do get an adapter, mayflash is the best choice. They make quality products from what I've seen & heard. I bought 2 of their products so far & both work perfectly

Gotcha.

Here's an album I just made with screenshots on the calibration page using the SF30 Pro.

I hope it shows that it's fully fluid and the axes aren't locked in any way.

The 8bitdo controllers are solid, I have been using this for indie games and retro stuff which makes up alot of my Switch Library:
https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-SF30-Controller-Windows-macOS-Android/dp/B0748S3GXG/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Switch+SNES+controller&qid=1562519790&s=gateway&sr=8-3

If you need a more modern controller for games just buy a wired Switch Controller. Personally I really like HORI's controllers and this one features a really good D-Pad:
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-HORIPAD-Controller-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01NAUATSM/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Switch+wired+controller&qid=1562519863&s=gateway&sr=8-3

u/moosebaloney · 3 pointsr/AndroidGaming

If you're interested in a Playstation layout controller, I recently started using the 8BitDo SF30 Pro (or SN30 Pro) for emulation on the Android. It works PERFECTLY with Rules of Survival. I also opted for the phone clip which has come in SUPER handy.

u/cowsareverywhere · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I prefer this one over the NA colours. I have the regular SNES pad and it is fantastic, will definitely be picking this up.

u/KlimpusKolumbus · 2 pointsr/medicalschoolanki

I assume you mean for the controller: https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-SF30-Controller-Windows-macOS-Android/dp/B0748S3GXG/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=8bitdo+gamepad&qid=1555968029&s=gateway&sr=8-3

I really like it, and it's got compatibility with Mac, PC, and the Switch haha.

u/Gustafer823 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The 8bitdo sf30 might be a good option, a little smaller than the pro controller and a little bit cheaper.

u/Deathmask97 · 2 pointsr/nintendo

I was about to link this as well - 100% guaranteed to be better than what Nintendo is selling. It’s the only controller I use these days.

EDIT: I should note that the version I have is the SF30 Pro because I prefer the more classic SNES controller feel but also the look of the Super Famicom colorful controller buttons over the dull medicinal purple colors of the SN30 Pro that looks more like a classic SNES controller.

u/Jcoulombe311 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I really love the 8bitdo controller. It's really high quality, extremely easy to set up, wireless, has rumble, and even motion controls!

https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-SF30-Controller-Windows-macOS-Android/dp/B0748S3GXG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1518231070&sr=8-2&keywords=8bitdo+snes30+pro

They also have versions without the analog sticks if you strictly want it for retro style games.

u/KeyMastar · 2 pointsr/dragonballfighterz

I personally use this. Its dpad is wonderful, as are its face buttons.

u/Modern_Pariah · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

So honestly I love my Pro Controller. I use it more than I imagined I would. Theres nothing wrong with the Joycons, but sometimes you just really enjoy the classic feel. It is quite pricey, but there is no question that it is one of the best feeling, well built controllers I've ever had. If 70 is a little too much, the SF30 Pro from 8Bitdo is a really solid middle ground. Supports motion controls, fantastic D-pad and amazing build quality as well for about half the price. https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-SF30-Controller-Windows-macOS-Android/dp/B0748S3GXG/ref=sr_1_4?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1523391593&sr=1-4&keywords=8bitdo&th=1

I use the SF30 Pro (Also called SN30 Pro) when playing PPT on Switch.

The SN30 Pro+ will be released soon which add grips, analog triggers, and control customization through PC software.

Both of these have 4 modes: X-Input, D-Input, Switch, and MacOS.

u/maccish031 · 2 pointsr/Switch

The 8Bitdo SN30 Pro+ will be released September 27th, it looks great. I obviously haven’t tried this one but i have used other controllers from 8bitdo and they have really good quality. But it is £42.99.

Here’s the link

Here’s a review from nintendolife.com

There’s another one, the SF30 Pro that looks like a Snes controller with analogue sticks that i think works great, it goes for £34,98

u/williad95 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Why a wired controller?

Wireless ones can often be used wired, if the battery is dead, so they’re kind of a win-win.

If it’s a money thing, I get it. Wireless controllers can be overpriced.

Personally, I really like 8bitdo’s SN30 Pro or SF30 pro (same controller, just themed either Super Nintendo style, or Super Famicom style) for $40. Its a good value for a nice controller. Lightweight, with a robust USB-C connector instead of those flimsy micro-b connectors on the Xbox One wireless, and thin, which makes it a great travel controller.

On the super-cheap, Logitech makes an acceptable wired controller for $15. My brother’s been using this controller for 3 years and he’s happy with it. I’m more of a wireless guy, myself.

Just get one of these 8BitDo SNES controllers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0748S3GXG

They're great (disclaimer: I actually have the NES version--https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018K3Q4KS--but should've gotten this one for its superior L and R buttons).

u/Parzival8910 · 1 pointr/nintendo

I know me too! Literally AS SOON as I saw the Joy-Cons in the Switch reveal trailer, I was thinking about all the different types of controllers they could do! I mean, with the Wii remote, it had that port on the bottom for the Nunchuck, but then later they had the Motion Plus, the classic controller, etc. Imagine that, but on a whole new level! Although (as you said) XL joy-cons would be dumb, more multiple reasons, including that it would look weird on the Switch, and there are bigger buttons on the Pro Controller. If you want a Snes controller with a D-Pad one just get this https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-SF30-Controller-Windows-macOS-Android/dp/B0748S3GXG

u/nashmiyyat · 1 pointr/RetroPie

in case anyone is wondering, https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-SF30-Controller-Windows-macOS-Android/dp/B0748S3GXG?th=1 this is the gamepad (all 4) as i see a lot of them have similar names.

u/Onett199X · 1 pointr/EmulationOnAndroid

I just got the FlyDigi Wee 2 and my god does the D-Pad feel awful. Also, really don't like the tiny range of the analog stick. Feels even worse than a JoyCon analog stick.

If you're willing to go all in price be damned, I think you have to do the following system:

  1. 8bitdo SF30 Pro $40
    https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-SF30-Controller-Windows-macOS-Android/dp/B0748S3GXG

  2. Phone Mount Clip $10
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B2V1SZZ/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_3fiECbSFGM354?creativeASIN=B07B2V1SZZ&linkCode=w61&imprToken=3kZ8spbblHYrQmXLVjStIA&slotNum=0&tag=tv-auto-20

  3. 3D Print Invert Clip to center phone over the controller for weight balance (Free to $10 depending on your access to 3D printers. There are websites that can print and send it to you for around $10.)
    https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3460395

As far as I've heard, this is the most no compromise controller setup out there. The one big thing I hear is its a pain in the butt to take the clip system off every time you have to charge the controller since the port is on top where the clip goes.

I'm going to return the Flydigi Wee 2 and try this out next I believe. I did the Power Moga Hero Pro before that and it was too top heavy and the controller felt too small as well.
u/MTeson · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

An option could be 8bitdo - their SF30 controller has rumble, motion, two thumbsticks, and a retro Dpad that's great for all sorts of games. We have two of them and love them.

u/DatGameh · 1 pointr/8bitdo

>. Still the same button shapes and Dpad shapes as OEM, but maybe like a hair's difference on the Dpad ball or something.

So.. of these two

https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-SF30-Controller-Windows-macOS-Android/dp/B0748S3GXG/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=8bitdo%2Bsf30&qid=1554184991&s=gateway&sr=8-3&th=1

Which do you think I should get?
For some reason, the old version - which I think would be of higher demand - is cheaper than the new version.

u/Linuxdirk · 1 pointr/8bitdo

It is this one: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0748S3GXG

Model: 80DB

It is NOT possible to pair it with the retro receiver currently available.

The 80DB variant is discontinued (due to legal reasons) and unsupported (due to being discontinued) anyways.

The adapter is working properly (was able to pair other 8ButDo controlers) and the SF30 Pro is working, too, because I was able to pair it with a Raspberry Pi running RetroPie (horrible input lag, though).

u/lol_lauren · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

This controller has gyro and works with your pc. I bought it and it's perfect. It's $48 right now, well worth it! I've used it on Splatoon, BOTW, Pokemon and hollow knight. Works like a charm

i would say these https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-SF30-Controller-Windows-macOS-Android/dp/B0748S3GXG?th=1 but the d pad on them SUCK, they can be fixed but thats a bit involved, i have a video on how to do it. but if you can wait they have these coming out, but no one knows how the d pads will be on them. https://images.idgesg.net/images/article/2018/06/dscf6917-100761444-orig.jpg

You could get the older version of the SF30 Pro, it's still available on Amazon:

SF30 Pro:

https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-SF30-Controller-Windows-macOS-Android/dp/B0748S3GXG/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=sf30+pro&qid=1557440311&s=gateway&sr=8-3

Both of these models were the first controllers I bought from 8bitdo. They both work great, though I did have to do the tape fix in order to make the D-pad do diagonal directions properly. (Pretty much all 8bitdo controllers do this. I had to do it to my SN30 controllers as well.)

I'm still waiting for the SN30 Pro+ to come out, but their website says that was supposed to release over five months ago. Instead of waiting for newer models, I say just find what looks good to you and buy now.

u/kratosauron0 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I looked online and saw prices ranging from $300-500. Is there any difference between these consoles other than the skin?

The $300 base model of the Nintendo Switch (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01LTHP2ZK/) does not include any games, but is still what you should most likely buy. More expensive models may have games bundled or free in-game currency (e.g. Fortnite), but they shouldn't be more than $350 (plus tax). At $360, you're not really saving any money, and anything more expensive than THAT is from a third party trying to make a quick buck. The console itself currently has few variations; most of your customization will depend on what color controllers you get with the console.

What type of accessories am I going to need?

This depends on your use case. I'd recommend getting a screen protector (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/). If you expect to bring the Switch out of the house a lot, also get a case (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01MR63I6F/). Anything else, like special controllers (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0748S3GXG/) or a dock cover (https://www.etsy.com/listing/560319070/), is largely unnecessary right now; look into them when you find you need extra joy-cons (https://smile.amazon.comdp/B078GZM4H8/) or a tabletop stand (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N9RTMWS/) for your Switch. In the end, you should not be spending more than $400 for the Switch, one game, and core accessories.

As for games, so far I planned on buying Smash Bros, Let's Go Pikachu, and One's Justice. Can you recommend any other games? I was never into Zelda but hear the new game is very good.

How old is your kid? Super Mario Odyssey (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01MY7GHKJ/) is fun, and has a great co-op mode if you want to play together. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is also always a blast (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N1037CV/). I'm also a huge fan of Splatoon 2 (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N9QVIRV/), but it's probably better for older kids because it requires more dexterity. There's lots of games to recommend, but it'll help to know what your kid already likes... or what you want your kid to like ;)

Side note: To play online, you need Nintendo Switch Online (https://www.nintendo.com/switch/online-service/). It's $20 a year for one ACCOUNT, or $35 a year for 8 accounts. Each account also has separate save files, if multiple people will be playing on the same Switch. Smash Ultimate and Mario Kart both have online modes, but Splatoon's primary game modes are online-only.

Whats the difference between mario party and mario space odyssey?

Super Mario Odyssey is an action-platformer for the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Party is a virtual board game for the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Galaxy is an action-platformer for the Wii, a completely different console.

Let us know if you have follow-up questions!

I tried the Horipad and it feels sorta strange because you're hitting plastic with plastic. I suppose someone could get used to it, though. Whoops, misread there. NihongoGamer has a video on the Hori left joycon D-pad version that you might want to give a watch.

I ordered one of these for DBFZ, Mega Man X, and probably that goddamn minigame in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. They're like SNES controllers with PS-style sticks plus wireless and rumble.

The 8bitdo snes controller is an amazing controller for playing retro games (or anything really). I’m a huge fan. Plus it can connect to your phone or computer and has several different input methods. It can emulate an Xbox controller for instance.

u/Heavyslugs · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Its the 8bitdo SF30 Pro, here is a link to buy it on amazon! I'm looking at buying a usb-c/usb-3.0 flash drive with some decent read/write speeds to boot Gallium from there instead of dealing with slow sd card speeds or limited internal storage.

Keen to find the pro cheap (not stoked on buying it full price if the d-pad is still crap) but I'm waiting on this bad boi to be released https://www.amazon.co.uk/8Bitdo-SF30-PRO-Bluetooth-Gamepad/dp/B0748S3GXG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1509641114&sr=8-5&keywords=switch+controller+pro

u/Tyr808 · 1 pointr/Xiaomi

USB is hard to say. It entirely depends on how your device works with OTG and driver support. Using an OTG cable my old nexus 5 worked fine with an xbox 360 controller, but it didn't work on my girlfriends old phone whereas my bluetooth controller worked fine on either phone.

Also depends on your budget. I haven't tried it, but the official xiaomi blutooth controller looks like it's probably pretty good and likely better than other things in the price range. I'd avoid going really cheap, I have a ~$15 USD bt controller that is just awful, bad analog stick, bad dpad, face-buttons all feel squishy and unresponsive. The newer xbox one controllers that support bluetooth work well on android and are a very nice controller if you're looking for something more modern.

Lastly, since you say you're specifically looking for SNES and PS1 emulation, you might like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0748S3GXG

I'm personally waiting for this controller to be released too. It's bluetooth and USB C (no idea if that usb will work properly on your phone but bluetooth definitely will), it has a built in rechargeable battery, it also has a gyro for motion controls, and the company is selling a clip for it as well that lets the controller hold the phone for proper portable play. I personally love this because it's basically a dual shock meets snes controller. Interestingly enough they're also nintendo switch compatible as well, which is an added bonus for me because I'm sure i'll eventually pick one up.

What you shouldn't do: Order one of these. For $14 more you can get something dramatically better.

What you SHOULD buy, is this. Don't believe me? Take it from him.

You can get it styled like an American SNES, a Famicom, or even in that 'game boy purple' with those color buttons, and you can get it with or without dual analogs. They've even got cheaper wired ones that are only like $25 but you miss out on motion controls & rumble.

I own the one I linked. I use it as my "at home" controller exclusively, the only time joycons come out is for Pokemon or any of the party games like Mario Party, Smash, whatever else. Yeah we're casual heathens, we play smash with sideways joycons. Nobody's any good so it doesn't matter.
