/r/SuggestALaptop is a great place for purchase advice. Notebookcheck.net has some good laptop reviews as well.

My personal recommend is to always go with a latest generation cpu, 1080p ips screen, 8gb ram and always with an ssd. Sometimes you can find a good laptop with 4gb ram, so I would always check the ram upgrade prices on crucial.com. If you focus on those four main parts, you will always find a quality model.

The Acer Aspire E15 is a frequently recommend laptop on /r/SuggestALaptop for example.

Depending on your needs and budget, you can never go wrong with a business grade laptop. All major companies have good ones, especially Lenovo's Thinkpad T and X series.

u/Ahmadhmedan · 17 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Hope you get better man,you can beat cancer i'm sure.
Now for the laptop looking at WoW specs i think around 600$ is a great price and no need to spend more so i suggest the acer aspire E15 with the mx150 and it should be more than enough:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i5-8250U-GeForce-E5-576G-5762/dp/B075FLBJV7?th=1&psc=1

oh and for streaming and such ALWAYS STAY AWAY FROM dual cards.the gtx 1080 is more than enough and your current setup is perfect and there is no need to buy anything at all even for streaming, and even if you are serious i would suggest something like the i7-8700k(6 cores with higher FPS but worse streaming) or the ryzen 7 2700x(8 cores great for streaming) with an RTX2080ti (honestly your current card is more than enough and the RTX is throwing money away for the sake of it).
DO NOT buy dual cards as very few games will scale and that will be like 70% scaling at best and MOST games won't use the second card at all.

If AMD's thin and light laptops are price right I would consider it. However the current "gaming" notebooks are also quite compact, so at least to me it becomes whether trading that form factor is worth the performance hit.

These are the current offerings out there:

Acer Aspire E15 with 8250U, MX150, $600

Acer Aspire E15 with 8550U, MX150, $750

Acer Swift 3 with Ryzen 2500U, $750

Acer Swift 3 with Ryzen 2700U, $900

A Ryzen 2700U laptop with integrated Vega cannot go for $900. Even the 8550U+MX150 for $750 is on the high side, so where is the justification for a similar 2700U+Vega laptop to cost so much more? Drop $200 on the Ryzen laptops and I think people will start to take interest, and there is a lot of room for these laptops to go cheaper since there's no discrete graphics.

u/Crazykirsch · 8 pointsr/buildapcsales

I don't know much about the different Swift versions but the Aspire E-15 with the i5-8250 is $20 more, but comes with a dedicated mx150 GPU. It's been the standard to which most of the $500-600 laptops are compared.

u/Corillynx · 7 pointsr/laptops

I just got the Acer Aspire E15 a couple of weeks ago and it's been great. Don't expect to play newer games at 1080p at 60FPS, but it'll do Fallout 4 at 720p medium settings at around 40-50fps. The processor should handle just about anything you throw at it unless you are doing CAD or something like that.

u/dspitts · 6 pointsr/wow

Here's a pretty decent option that's in the same price range.

u/The_Adviser100 · 5 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

For school and gaming in this price range I would advise you to check this laptop

laptop name | Acer Aspire E 15
--- |----
CPU | Quad core 8th Gen I5-8250U
GPU | MX 150
Screen "| 15.6"" FHD IPS"
Ram | 8 GB
SSD | 256 GB
HDD | 0
Weight | 5.27 Lbs.
Battery life | 8 Hrs.
Pros | One of the best bang for the money in the market.
Pros | The Mx 150 should be enough for CAD work and light to medeum gaming.
Pros | Great battery life .
Cons | The chassis is all plastic .
Cons | The screen is a little dim .
Cons | It's a little on the heavier side .

u/starchaserro · 5 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Firstly, the Vostro is the best of the laptops you showed here. Unfortunately none of these laptops will really play Bethesda RPGs in your desired settings unless they are like 10 years old titles. You need a dedicated video card for more recent titles, not the most expensive one, but still...

So this is what I was able to find: noteb search. Unfortunately for UK, the prices are more or less estimates and they can be off by about 100-150 quid.

So I started searching from these results and this is what I found on Amazon and the site you linked:

https://www.cclonline.com/product/244342/NX-GS3EK-001/Laptops/Acer-Aspire-5-A515-51G-574F-15-6-inch-Notebook-Core-i5-7200U-2-5GHz-8GB-1TB-128GB-SSD-WLAN-Webcam-Windows-10-Home-GeForce-MX150-2GB-/NOT04672/

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-Aspire-NVIDIA-Windows-E5-576G-5762/dp/B075FLBJV7/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1521484093

Now mind you, none of these laptops are really made to last, maybe the Aspire 5 will be better in this regard but not by much. Don't get me wrong, I know people with Acer Aspire that had them for 3 years plus without a problem. It's more of a gamble. But you get 2 years warranty in UK, so at least it will last 2 years no matter what you get, plus if it doesn't live up to expectations you have 30 days to return it.

Got this one myself in the last week or two, it’s worth as far as college work and a little bit of gaming. Reviews are only pretty decent on. It’s only accessible if you wanna change the SSD/RAM,don’t have to tear it apart. Important from the states took four days to come.

u/elvinelmo · 5 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

In your budget the Acer Aspire E15 is your best bet. It has a quad core CPU and a mx150 graphics card that will run games will. 13" is out of the question for your budget. The closet thing would be the Swift 3

u/techstar2000 · 5 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

In that budget range and based on what you will be using this laptop for, not many laptop can compete with this Acer Aspire E 15 laptop as an option. It is easily the most recommended laptop in this budget range because of it's balance of performance power, battery life among other features. It has a nice quad core 8th gen i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, fast 256 GB SSD and an MX 150 graphics card that will handle the games you want to play.

u/ThatSmallFighter · 5 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

The Acer Aspire E15 is a good choice for non high end laptops

u/Allhailhaels · 5 pointsr/thesims

Idk your budget, but something that has at the minimum an Intel Core i3 processor with Intel Integrated graphics card and 4GB Ram. This would go for about $300-$400 dollars, would be able to play the Sims 4 at very low settings and the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection at comfortable settings/smooth gameplay.

If you can spare some more money, ideally you should get an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, preferably a 6/7/8th generation (generation indicated by the first of number that follows, so for example I have an i5 6200U processor). 8GB+ RAM (more the better) is all suggested. The processors I just mentioned will suit the game fine for medium/high settings but for ultra settings look for one of the i5/i7 with “HQ” at the end. The difference between a processor ending is that 6/7th gen and below processors that end with U are only “dual core” while HQ means “quad core”. If you don’t have the money to grab a quad core/HQ that’s ok, but it leads to my next point.

If you can’t get an HQ processor, try to at least get a U processor accompanied by a dedicated graphics card! Some dgpu’s in a decent price range that work well for sims are the Nvidia GeForce 940m, or MX150 made by the same company! Ultra settings could benefit from a Nvidia GeForce GTX1050 or above (1050,1060,1070,1080). That’s basically it!

The first option is only recommended if you’re on a tight budget. You can get more bang for your buck if you go for a desktop, ie. better processor/graphics card for less money but you use the portability factor. I like to game in bed and also have college to worry about so I need my machine to be portable.

Here are some good laptop choices

If you’re on a really tight budget (ie. first option):
Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM 15.6-Inch FHD Notebook (Intel Core i3-7100U 7th Generation , 4GB DDR4, 1TB 5400RPM HD, Intel HD Graphics 620, Windows 10 Home), Obsidian Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K1IO3QW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_oHeJAb87X98XF

Have a bit more money to spare:
Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6" Full HD, 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U, GeForce MX150, 8GB RAM Memory, 256GB SSD, E5-576G-5762 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075FLBJV7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_nIeJAbZFVCXT4

Other pricier ($600+) but better choices:
Dell Inspiron 15 5000 5577 Gaming Laptop - (15.6" FHD (1920x1080), Intel Quad-Core i5-7300HQ, 1TB HDD, 8GB DDR4, NVIDIA GTX 1050 4GB, Windows 10 - Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XFG7157/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_iJeJAbCQ911ZA

u/RotMG543 · 4 pointsr/projectzomboid

The requirements aren't exactly hefty, so you won't need a "gaming laptop":

  • OS: Vista, 7, 10
  • 64bit OS required
  • Processor: Intel 2.77GHz Dual Core
  • Memory: 4Gb Ram
  • Hard Disk Space: 3gig
  • Video Card: Intel HD 3000 or above. Radeon 4xxx series (or below) graphics cards
  • Sound: FMOD compatible sound card

The laptop I have ("Aspire E15 E5-576G5762" - 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 2GB MX150 graphics card, Intel "i5-8250U Quad-Core 1.6GHz-3.4GHz") runs it well without any changes to settings (the release of animations may change that), and cost me about the same 1.5 years ago, as what it sells for now (550USD). It has a decent battery life, too, but is apparently heavier than other laptops (only 2 odd kilos).

    https://www.pcworld.com/article/3291622/acer-aspire-e5-576g-5762-review.html

If you were to buy one of them from Amazon, try to use one of those "cashback" sites, and wait till it's on a better special than it currently is (went down to 513USD last month).

Yes I agree here your budget needs to be a bit higher than that at least $150 more to get a low to med gaming laptop. I would recommend getting the Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6" Full HD, 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U, GeForce MX150, 8GB RAM Memory, 256GB SSD, E5-576G-5762

u/Achillesduo · 4 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Yeah not a good deal. That "one year old" laptop comes with a 4th generation i5. We are currently on the 8th generation. Buy an Acer Aspire E15 instead. You'll get much better performance and longevity.

u/uiwkfb · 4 pointsr/LaptopDeals

Budget: ~500 to 600 (up to 900 depending on how convincing I can be)

Country: US

Screen size: 13'-15' would be good. Nothing too big

Screen resolution: Anything really

Touch screen: Would be nice to have but not needed

Weight: Under 4 lb please

Main purpose of laptop: School and Gaming

If you will be gaming, what are the most demanding games you will play and at what settings? Rocket League maybe, Risk of Rain 2 Definitely

Is battery life an issue? Not really

Other notes: I need some good reasons for buying the computer too, for when my parents try to convince me to buy something cheaper. i.e this one's on sale or this one doesn't have any sales tax

u/tjswish · 4 pointsr/classicwow

Something like this is cheap (500ish USD mark) but should still be able to run classic on high settings.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i5-8250U-GeForce-E5-576G-5762/dp/B075FLBJV7/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=gaming+laptop&qid=1559113760&refinements=p_n_graphics_type_browse-bin%3A14292273011%2Cp_36%3A1253507011&rnid=386442011&s=pc&sr=1-6

Personally I'd then get an external monitor that's 24" or more and a keyboard and mouse but you could probably just use the laptop with a shitty old mouse if you're really tight.

u/legos45 · 4 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Hi,

For general use, you might want a non-gamer design and a better battery life than the Acer Nitro 5. A good contender that is similar is the Acer Aspire E 15, which has an i5-8250U 4-core processor, 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB SSD, 1080p 15.6" display, and battery life of around 8 hours for general use.

For light, casual gaming, the MX150 is a good fit. Also, this laptop gives the opportunity to upgrade the RAM/storage in the future if you'd like.

Acer Aspire E 15 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075FLBJV7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-HvGDb1J9TY9P

I picked this one out for my sister when she started college last year, seems to be a fantastic bang for your buck. Even got a cheaper version for my dad a month ago. There’s a newer, slightly pricier version too if you want to spend more. Overall very solid for the price, especially in battery life (Up to 15 hours!).

It was the most commonly suggested model in that price range in most laptop suggestion threads I dig some digging into.

u/glymao · 4 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

(yawns) Yeah it's Acer Aspire time again. The cheapest laptop with dGPU and SSD, the benefit of quad core i5 and Nvidia MX150 worths the extra $100.

Allow me to quote my post about the best college and gaming laptops and recommend the 550~650 Acer Aspire E 15

  • NVIDIA MX 150 which is one of the best for this range and suitable for your usage.

  • 8GB DDR4, 256GB SSD both are somewhat standards in 600 range so finding them on 500~ range is somewhat a catch.

  • Advertised battery life of up to 12-hours, Backlit Keyboard.

Here is a little in depth review of it :

  • Same with the cheaper Acer, it is made from plastic, but it feels sturdy, screen comes with anti glare finish so it will work well outside.

  • Battery life is great about 5-8 hours of general usage.
  • Backlit keyboard, quite and comfortable, Trackpad have been getting some mixed reviews, I think it is a software issue, or maybe it is because some people are not used to trackpads.

  • Speakers are good, above average for laptops in this range, the gaming performance is also above average since it is only MX 150 but it the best for the budget.

  • Very thin, very quiet (can barely hear the fans), It has room for more ram as well as more SSD, Fingerprint magnet.
u/edit1754 · 4 pointsr/LaptopDeals

It's one of those laptops specced to sound good in advertising so I can see why you might link it, but really it isn't very good for this price.

"i7" 7500U is a rather miniscule improvement over an "i5" 7200U, and it's wildly beaten by an "i5" 8250U or "i5" 7300HQ. 12GB RAM is higher than average, but it only takes a $40 part to upgrade most laptops from 8GB to 12GB, and you might not need to. This is why it's important not to shop by the "Core i-number" sticker and the amount of RAM.

There isn't any indication whether the laptop uses an acceptable IPS panel or a low-quality-TN type panel. This is one of the most noticeable differences. Companies will put low quality displays even in higher priced laptops, and bank on buyers not knowing to check or to expect more for their money. http://imgur.com/Sajajqc.jpg

The GPU is only a 940MX, when you can get the doubly-powerful NVIDIA MX150 for the price.

These would be better:

If you are ok with a portable 14" display, id recommend you get this Acer Swift 3. It comes with the latest 8th gen i5cpu, 8gb of ram, 256gb ssd storage, battery life is remarkable and it has a great 1080p display.

If you rather a bigger display with identical specs, theASUS VivoBook S would be a great option but it is at the top end of your budget.
if you would like something with a dedicated gpu then this Acer Aspire E 15 would be the laptop for you.

  • 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U
  • GeForce MX150
  • 8GB RAM Memory
  • 256GB SSD
  • windows 10

I'm no expert but after looking through some of those offers from your school I would say stick to Amazon. I did not see any exceptional deals and a free laptop bag is a pretty lame consolation gift.

I recently picked up this machine for general use and I really like it. It's an excellent value considering it's specs are quite good. I'll never go back to a standard hard drive after having an SSD. But it has really good specs across the board. It meets most of your criteria. I can also suggest the Acer Swift 3 series. It's got a good build and has a MacBook Air feel for a fraction of the price. It's a little more expensive though.

u/PraiseLordGouda · 3 pointsr/buildmeapc

Hi, OPs friend here. Made my reddit account to specify things. $600 is the budget I'm making for a laptop for now, as I libe bbn in a small apartment and unfortunately, the is a bug infestation so most items I own I'm going to toss when I leave here in the near future, as I will not allow the little critters to come with me. It doesnt need to be a super great laptop (the biggest games I have are Neir Automata, Dark Souls 3, Destiny 2 and FF14). It doesnt really even have to run them, as I'd be attempting to get a desktop built properly for gaming. It's just a temporary laptop to play baseline games, as it's about the only thing I'd have for entertainment and the current laptop I got from Goodwill, refurbished with many problems, that has just gotten worse and worse as time goes on. Pay for cheap sht, get sht thrills, eh? Anyways, I appreciate the ideas and links that were provided!

That was the first thing I stumbled upon when u checked on Amazon. Does anyone have any opinions? I know very little about the components of a computer, besides googling opinions on parts.

u/CozyUrbanite · 3 pointsr/CitiesSkylines

I'm buying a new computer this weekend and hope to be able to play Cities Skylines, with expansions and a few mods, at mid performance levels. What do you think of the following computer? I know nothing about computer components or gaming requirements (I did check the CS requirements, but I don't know how graphics cards compare or how processors compare). Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6" Full HD, 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U, GeForce MX150, 8GB RAM Memory, 256GB SSD

My budget is <$700. This is likely the most graphics or cpu intensive game I'll play for now.

u/-Iroquois_Pliskin- · 3 pointsr/footballmanagergames

I'm currently justifying a new laptop purchase to the missus for a variety of crap reasons, but in reality it's so I can get back in to FM after not playing since FM09!

My current front runner is the Acer Aspire E 15 with 8th Gen Intel Core i5, NVIDIA MX150, 8GB DDR4 and256GB SSD (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B075FLBJV7/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A29PE8RVBSO64H&psc=1).

Can anyone give me a steer as to how this will cope with FM18, and in particular I'm wanting to know roughly how many leagues I could run without much slowdown?

Any help (or suggestions for alternate laptops around that pricepoint) is much appreciated!

This is quite a bit more money than the one suggested, but it's WAYYYYYY faster.

It has a 4 core, 8 thread CPU (double the previous) with a much higher turbo clock speed

It has a much stronger graphics chip, meaning you can play more games at higher FPS (or less lag)

Had 8gb ram instead of 4. 8gb is considered standard, as having a lot of tabs open (let's say, you're working on a research paper) will fill up 4gb and programs are starting to use more.

Finally, it has an SSD. An SSD makes everything load faster, from booting up to opening programs. Less capacity for $ is the tradeoff though.

u/jsamhead · 3 pointsr/chromeos

Chromebooks are definitely designed for more casual use. They can't do much more than run a few web apps. They're excellent if all you need to do is average-person stuff like take some notes, stream some video, check some email, ETC. They can't do much more though.

Sounds like you're looking for something fairly capable. If I were you I'd look at some budget friendly windows laptops. You'll want to look for something that's designed for performance and not portability though if you want to stay in your budget (I'm assuming roughly $500 based on the cost of the Asus C302). You'll want to look at 15" models, probably all plastic and styled like laptops from 5-10 years ago, but making laptops like that is cheap so manufacturers can pack some serious specs like 8-16gb of RAM and a core i5 or i7 into a $500 laptop. If I were you that's what I'd look for.

A friend of mine recently purchased one of these. That's the kind of laptop you'll want to look for. Something fairly recent (made in the last year or two) with a core i5 or i7, 8gb-16gb ram, and at least a 256gb SSD. Stay away from laptops with a hard drive as the boot drive rather than an SSD. Hard drives are TERRIBLE boot drives and it's disgraceful that any manufacturer is selling computers with hard drives as the boot drive anymore.

u/KoalityBrawls · 3 pointsr/laptops

Yeah that's true I guess. The thing I learned though is that today's laptops are different from the past. In laptops from the past if you spent a lot of money, you would be paying for that reliability. Nowadays, seems like these companies are just trying to create a lot of products and profit, and they end up with many defective models. For example, a really good choice for people with like a $1000 budget is the Dell XPS. It is an awesomely constructed laptop, but they have issues like something where your laptop makes an annoying noise that's not the fan, so in a quiet room it would be disturbing. The chances of getting a laptop that's affected by that problem is like 1/3. I bought a laptop that had amazing build quality and was working perfectly from HP, and mine suffered a lot of problems, and it was such a hassle, after paying so much.

Basically, laptops nowadays aren't built with the same care and companies don't care as much about customer loyalty, they are just trying to profit. So in my opinion the brand shouldn't matter too much, just hope not to get a defective model, and make sure you are buying from a place that gives you at least 1 year of manufacturer warranty. I personally don't want lenovo, but lenovo does have the best deals (You can get a laptop with great midrange specs around $500).

Now lets look at some good laptops for your price range. (I'm also looking for laptops in the same price range:

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i5-8250U-GeForce-E5-576G-5762/dp/B075FLBJV7/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1550429242&sr=8-7&keywords=acer+aspire+3

Acer Aspire 3:
i5-8th gen

8GB of RAM (Good for normal computing)

Dedicated MX150 graphics (I know you don't really need them but I mean it still fits in your price range and why not have a free upgrade lol)

256 GB SSD(SSDs are very important for speed and for the computer to last for a while)

Oh no I don't have time to continue this, but I will send more laptop recommendations when I'm back. Hope this helped.

You can check this article about best gaming laptop under $500, it could help you.

I like this version of Acer Aspire E 15

It has:

  • 8th Generation Intel Core i3-8130U Processor (Up to 3.4GHz)
  • 15.6″ Full HD (1920 x 1080) widescreen LED-lit Display
  • 6GB Dual Channel Memory, 1TB HDD & 8X DVD
  • Up to 13.5-hours of battery life
  • Windows 10 Home

    More Details

For $599 you can get Acer Aspire E 15 with 8th gen i5 processor and discrete MX150 graphics card.
u/crispylagoon · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

It hasn't, this is just an expensive lesser spec version. Check this out for $570: 8th gen i5, ssd, 8 gigs of ram, Mx 150 https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i5-8250U-GeForce-E5-576G-5762/dp/B075FLBJV7

u/tigerbreak · 3 pointsr/laptops

What's the priority? Battery life? Weight? Processing power and discrete video? The recommendations really diverge based on one or more of those. If I had to recommend an all-rounder, i'd recommend this one. Solid CPU, Discrete GPU, decent amount of RAM, an SSD in a mediocre to average build with a passable screen.

u/LapNerd · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I would recommend Acer Aspire E 15 as it comes with: -

CPU: i5-8250U

GPU: GeForce MX150

RAM: 8

Display: FHD 15.6 IPS screen

Storage: 256 SSD,- HDD

Long battery life

It is a great choice because of its great heat management system and high build quality, along with its specifications makes it the best option for your usage and it is within your budget.

u/Niflhe · 3 pointsr/giantbomb

Of the two, I would probably say the HP - better battery life, better reviews overall, more RAM, and a solid state drive will really improve your experience. It's also about a pound lighter than the Dell. I would maybe recommend some extra storage (if I'm looking at the specs right, it looks like it has space for the M2 solid state drive and a hard drive). If you want to stay in the Acer family, there's the Acer Aspire E 15 that I have and personally love. It's slightly heavier than either of your options, though. I haven't had any issues with the Acer, except needing to reboot it once every couple of weeks because I tend to leave it on sleep mode all the time.

u/androgynyjoe · 3 pointsr/GirlGamers

Alright, so, if I were going to buy a laptop I'd go with this dell: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-Laptop-G5587-5859BLK-PUS-Anti-Glare/dp/B07CD3MRZD

It's listed for $800 on Amazon but it might be the best you're going to do in a laptop. It's hard to find a laptop much lower than that. This one, though, at least has a lot of storage. There's a 128GB boot drive and then a 1TB drive for storage (though you can install games on it if you want). When I was looking for my gaming laptop I found the folks at r/gaminglaptops to be pretty helpful. Here is some of their recommendations at various prices: https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/comments/ca2fzv/best_gaming_laptops_of_2019/

If you want to dip down around $600 a popular choice is the Acer Aspire e15: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i5-8250U-GeForce-E5-576G-5762/dp/B075FLBJV7?th=1

I'm going to warn you that this isn't a powerful laptop. There are games out today that it won't run. However, for $600 I've been told that it is a solid laptop.

As for pre-built desktops it's tough to find the best deals online. One I did find was the Acer Nitro 50 for $480: https://www.microcenter.com/product/609860/nitro-50-gaming-desktop-pc

Again, not the best computer in the world, but it is solid for the price.

I would recommend finding whatever electronics stores are near you (Best Buy, etc) and look for deals. Open box deals are great, there are regular sales, and if you go regularly for a few weeks you'll likely find a solid deal.

There's one thing you're looking for: a dedicated graphics card. Every computer has "onboard" graphics that are built right into the motherboard. This is fine if you're just using a browser and word processing but not fine for games. A gaming PC needs to have a special graphics card that is added onto the motherboard. When you're looking at a computer's specs it will have a listing for "graphics." If it says something like "integrated" or "on-board" under graphics then it's not going to be for gaming. If you see something made buy Nvidia or AMD listed under graphics then you're looking at a PC made for gaming.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

with all apps adding more features and taking more ram i dont think 4gb ram will last very long

this is my recommendation https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075FLBJV7

u/martymcflyer · 3 pointsr/laptops

Or I would recommend the acer e 15, or inspiron 15 5000 5577

Link to all 3 on amazon:

Acer inspiron 15

Acer Aspire 5

u/johnnyp42 · 3 pointsr/computers

https://www.pcgamer.com/civilization-6-on-a-laptop-with-integrated-graphics/

The game isn't going to run well on integrated graphics, and you aren't going to find anything new with a discrete card for under $500.

Something like this Acer Aspire for $600 is pretty much the cheapest thing I can find with a graphics card. It has basically the equivalent of a GT 1030. For another $50-100 you start finding laptops with GTX 1050s in them, which is quite a bit better.

If it's gotta be under $500 I'd suggest looking at used or maybe refurbished stuff, but make sure it has a graphics card. Might be tricky to find one that's less than 15" though.

u/Colehorowitz12 · 3 pointsr/laptops

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i5-8250U-GeForce-E5-576G-5762/dp/B075FLBJV7

Way better deal, 930m is absolute shit. The mx150 is equal to a GT 1030 or a GTX 750

u/IFlyAirplanes · 2 pointsr/techsupport

That's the plan with the new machine. I'm likely going to go with an Acer Aspire E15 and upgrade the 256GB SSD to a 1TB from Crucial.

u/jayman419 · 2 pointsr/CasualConversation

It's partly you... it's just iOS. You'll get used to it.

But there's no reason you need to. You can get an Asus with the 128 SSD and 8 GB ram for $300.

If your $70 was 8%, that's around 500 bucks. You could get a gaming laptop for that price.

u/DustyTurboTurtle · 2 pointsr/OverwatchUniversity

Sorry I just noticed that the Dell you linked actually has a pretty bad harddrive, is recommend this one instead, but it's a few bucks extra https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XFGDD8P/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1520295735&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=dell+gaming+laptops&dpPl=1&dpID=41zfabBnrLL&ref=plSrch

Also if you really wanna stay on the cheap side, this is the best I could find in just a few minutes of searching, but this laptop had 1 tiny fan vs the 2 giant fans in the Dell (And more cooling/fans = better performance) https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B075FLBJV7/ref=psdcmw_13896615011_t1_B01K1IO3QW?th=1&psc=1

I highly recommend the Dell though as it has all better parts + wayyy better cooling so it's miles better for only $150 extra

u/Plumali · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I would take a look at the New Acer E 15 with solid processor, decent graphics card, and an incredibly long battery. Also has a backlit keyboard and USB-C Port.
Intel 8th Gen i5 processor, 8gb ram
256gb SSD, Nvidia MX150 dGPU

You're not going to be able to do squat for video editing or streaming on a 250-370 dollar laptop. the best laptops in that price range to be completely honest are chromebooks. Chromebooks aren't bad but you can't do much other than chrome based stuff, hence the name. If you just wanted to watch videos and could tolerate a 720p screen, chromebooks would be fine, but I will NEVER recommend any windows laptop at that price point unless for some odd reason it has more than 6 gigabytes of RAM. 6 is the bare minimum that one should accept when using Windows 10, and 8 should be the target minimum. Only get 6 gigabytes of RAM if that's the absolute best you could afford at the time. You may be better off spending a couple hundred extra dollars on something like the Acer Aspire or one of the many HP x360 models. I personally recommend the x360 over the acer simply because I've got better product history with HP than I do Acer. I personally didn't get my laptop on Amazon, couldn't find one for my budget that was good enough. I paid 400 dollars for mine. I have the HP 15-bw053od. It's a 15 inch laptop with a quad core AMD APU and pretty decent integrated graphics (good enough to game on actually) it also has 8 gigabytes of RAM out of the box but I could upgrade to 16 any time for pretty cheap. Also it has a pretty slow 5400 RPM hard drive but that could also be swapped out with an SSD down the road. Amazon may not be the best place for you to get yourself a laptop unless you wanna bump your budget up by a couple hundred dollars, I got my laptop at OfficeMax. Microcenter is also a good place to look for laptops though.
Here are a couple links to okay/good laptops on Amazon, which are sadly about your 370 dollar limit:

HP x360 2in1

Acer Aspire E15

Both of those are pretty strong for the price, but they wouldn't be the absolute best at video editing. Depending on the webcam streaming you want to do those laptops could do just fine. The acer would do video editing a bit better simply for having an SSD installed already, but if I remember correctly, you could also put an SSD in the x360, which is also a touch screen, which I think is pretty useful for a lot of windows programs outside of gaming.

The LG Gram is very light and has a large battery. For the 14" i7 version it apparently goes up to 17.5 hours. The programs you're running don't seem to be overly intensive are they?

Also if you had a tighter budget I would have reccomended something cheaper such as the Acer Aspire E15 but the LG Gram is very durable and has very good power inside such a small package.

The Acer Aspire E15 is only around $600 US and it can run Civ 5/6 fine, but graphic will need to be turn down quite a bit.

  • Nvidia 940MX 2 GB Vram
  • 7th Gen Intel Core i5, 2.5 Ghz with turboboost up to 3.2 Ghz

It seems like you would need a mx150 dGPU at least, you could play on UHD 620 integrated graphics but it would be a poor experience. If you could go up $100 then you could get the Acer Aspire E15.

If you really can’t go up to get this laptop, then look for something with a Ryzen with a Vega integrated GPU, that one is better than the UHD 620.

u/Dan6erbond · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Since you won't be doing anything requiring much performance you can get a basic i7 laptop and if you want to do a little gaming, you can take a look at some Ryzen Mobile systems although they do have some driver issues:

  • Asus VivoBook
  • Acer Aspire E15
  • Dell Inspiron 15
  • Acer Swift 3
  • Dell Inspiron 13
  • Lenovo IdeaPad 15.6"

The Aspire E15 is the only one with a dGPU if you want to play some games, it's great. But the Ryzen Mobile systems perform really well in a small package, especially the Acer Swift 3 and if you don't care about performance AT ALL, get the VivoBook as it's a great thin and light which is well built and performs quite well. If you're interested in a 2in1, get the Inspiron 13.

Well what you're looking for is a "CRG" or "Contingency Response Group" -- typically. Their mission is essentially to train - deploy - train - deploy. There are a couple bases that have them, Andersen in Guam, Travis in CA, Sembach in Germany, JBMDL in NJ, and Moody in GA.

If it's just gucci training your looking for, you can look towards Northern Tier nuke bases that have the opportunity to try out for their TRF and they get some cool opportunities too. (A sniper team from a TRF took like, 8th I think in a huge international sniper competition 2017 Army Internation Sniper Comp Results from FB) They don't deploy AS MUCH (they are letting some of them deploy out of those bases now) but they still get once in a lifetime training.

Been eyeballing this a while $600. Alternatively a Chromebook is much cheaper and can still function as a word processor.

As for academics- start putting yourself in the mindset for interning. Talk to professors and advisors about it, find out how to lookup, apply and get course credit etc. If you can get 1 or 2 internships under your belt, you can really substantially increase the value of your degree

u/jklemon17 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I wouldn't assume that you need an i7. There's not much difference between i5 and i7 U-series processors lately. I'd look at these two options under $700:

u/Michiganders · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Two options I'd suggest are the Acer E15 or the Acer Swift 3. Unfortunately I can't find any Acer Swift 3's with an MX150 on sale right now, but if you keep your eyes open you can sometimes find it priced down to $650-$700. The MX150 graphics and Kaby Lake R processor in each will be great for most moderate gaming. It won't quite be able to play games like League on Ultra (maybe high), so if you really want to play on Ultra you'll have to look into more bulky options with a GTX 1050/1050Ti.

u/jungjai153 · 2 pointsr/laptops
