How about = 14"? I have an Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG with some upgrades:

  • Core i5-480M @ 2.67 - 2.9 GHz
  • AMD Radeon HD 6550M 1 GB (use this for the occasional game or switch to internal graphics for battery life)
  • 8 GB DDR3-1066 RAM (originally 4 GB)
  • Samsung 640 GB 7200 rpm drive (originally 5400 rpm)
  • DVD-RW drive
  • Windows 7 Home Premium

Laptop I am using right now and love it. Picked it up at a local store on sale for $650 but it is definitely worth the $800 price tag.

The processor is fantastic, even for audio and video editing (which I do). I can render a 720p video in vegas at a rate of about 2.5 sec's of time per second of video. I can transcode a wave file to 320kbps MP3 at 73x encode speed.

The video card (ATI 6550M) is also fantastic but will need to be overclocked by 10% (700x1085) to show it's true power (no heat issues either, same temps). For some reason, the video card acts very different with that extra 10%. For example, I use to play BC2 on medium for a stable frame rate at 1366x768. Now I can play maxed out, even with HBAO, at 1080p on my HDTV and keep a 28-35fps average.

I can also play Crysis 1 + Warhead at max detail at the laptops 1366x768 resolution with no problems. Crysis 2 played using the mid level setting (before patch to allow advanced config) which is equal to Crysis 1's very high.

The hard drive works well but does have a tendency to fail (multiple reports, not just this model/brand of laptop, it's the HDD). Mine failed after 4 months so I replaced it with a WD 500gb 5200rpm and it's slightly faster with no problems since.

My laptop. Runs Crysis maxed out at 25-32fps, BC2 maxed out. Most games can be maxed out and still achieve 30fps avg at 1080p when using an HDTV. The screen itself is 1366x768 (which looks just as good as 1080p on my high end 55 inch LCD).

Don't see many laptops in here. I bought an Acer TimelineX 4820TG-6847 two weeks a go and have been nothing but pleased with the performance so far. I haven't turned on a framerate display but other than very brief rare dips in rifts I have a stable framerate on ultra.

i5 480m
Radeon 6550m
4GB DDR3

I really recommend this computer if anyone's looking for a good, portable, and fairly inexpensive gaming laptop.
