Total noob here. I just ordered this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C05C1OK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 monitor. You are saying I need to order a DVI cable to get the 144 out of it?

u/dremic · 6 pointsr/Monitors

with a 1060 I would stick with 1080p. Unless you plan on upgrading your video card more frequently.

You'd clearly benefit from a new monitor. For the GTX 1070 I'd recommend a 1440p 60Hz IPS monitor or a 1080p 144Hz IPS GSync monitor. I have a GTX 1080 and it runs newer AAA games at around 100fps at 1440p max settings, so the GTX 1070 will run them close to 60 fps at 1440p.

Welp, reasonably priced and G-Sync aren't really ever mentioned in the same sentence. Best I can see right now is floating around $340-$350. Check out these:

His monitor is the Acer Predator XB241H which is G-SYNC compatible so long as he enabled that. I wouldn't be surprised if that is disabled for him as well, unless it's on by default.

u/Kreygasms · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Acer predator XB241H fits the bill. Phenomenal monitor, 1080p 24" w/ Gsync and can OC up to 180hz

Just bought one myself after weeks of research. Save yourself the trouble and grab this one. Gsync is absolutely worth it if you don't think your setup will be able to handle the 144hz refresh rate of the monitor consistently. If you're okay lowering the settings to ensure you avoid stuttering/tearing, then by all means.

But, to me, <350 for all of those features is worth it.

Yes its a 1080p monitor: Acer Predator XB241H

u/TempOWThrowaway · 3 pointsr/OverwatchUniversity

First of all, is your laptop running a GTX 970 or a GTX 970M. It's probably a 970M.

In general, the best investment for a competitive shooter like Overwatch when it comes to monitors is going to be a 1080p 144hz monitor with G Sync (because you run NVIDIA). Ignore input lag ratings, as all monitors are going to have imperceptible input lag outside of framerate.

It being 144hz is the only real performance improvement, with the rest just being how good the game will look (resolution, panel size, panel type, contrast ratios, etc). Going higher than 1080p is inadvisable unless you have an awfully impressive GPU setup or want higher resolution at the cost of hitting rock bottom effects settings on your GTX 970M.

On low-medium settings, your GPU should be able to run 1080p 144hz Overwatch on a monitor like this.

I got the Acer Predator XB241H and I love it. It is 1080p 144Hz GSync

u/Rlemalin · 2 pointsr/buildapc

So, you're on AMD and switching to Nvidia, do you plan on going G-sync ?

If so, this is the cheapest 1440p 144hz (overclockable) monitor I found when looking around for buying mine last week, my criterias were, in order , 144hz,24"+,1440p

Since I couldnt afford the 27" 1440p, I felt like staying at 1080p wouldnt be that bad on a 24" and settled with the Acer predator 24 inch 1080p , 144Hz boostable to 180Hz, I got it wednesday...

Pros and cons so far:
pros.

  • Never experienced 144Hz before, and with G-sync, this thing is fantastic.

  • I dont know much about panels, but the colors seem pretty customizable and I dont see that much of a difference with my previous ips panel ( this one is TN ), i believe the first versions of this monitor had alot of backlight bleeding a couple of years ago, didn't notice anything major on mine.

  • It comes with a little hook on the back for your headset.

  • Built-in speakers if you're low on space (they are ordinary), you can customize up to 3 or 4 presets

  • 1ms

If you do not care about G-sync, that would have been my choice, it comes with adaptyve-sync technology (that's another name for amd's freesync, I think) :

    Benq XL2730Z

u/DaBombDiggidy · 2 pointsr/Monitors

it's not a gsync monitor sadly, i mean it's definitely an improvement over what you currently have. I'd just suggest waiting a bit longer and spending another ~100 for something like this which would be a huge upgrade.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB241H-bmipr-1920x1080/dp/B01C05C1OK/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1479839123&sr=1-1&keywords=gsync

u/Dark_24 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Ok so that is a Nvidia card which if you so choose would need a Gsync monitor to utilize a syncing technology.

The monitor you choose is a Freesync Monitor and although it would function as a Monitor it would not be able to use the Freesync Technology.

Gsync monitors are much more expensive (especially in Canda)

https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-NVIDIA-G-Sync-Display-1920x1080/dp/B01C05C1OK/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1505772353&sr=1-1&keywords=24+inch+Gsync+monitor

Here is a Video that shows the difference:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVheiHBWYrE

Beyond that.. The AOC G2460PF you have picked out IS the same one I currently own. I was not overwhelmed by it when I fist got it.. I had to futz with setting Brightness/Contrast and all the things to get it to what I felt was good.. Everything looked washed out to me in the beginning..
I have had this now for over 6 months and I have come to love it.. It was not love at 1st sight, but it grew on me over time.. Make sure if you get this monitor that you load the software / drivers that come with it..

I used the Display Port cable that came with it.. It is currently plugged into a AMD R7 370 which does not support Freesync.. I was waiting to see how Vega turned out and meh.. I might upgrade to a RX 580 or something come 1st of the year.. OR I might just say fuck it and get a GTX 1070 and Damn the FreeSync.

u/jdund117 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I know AOC has a relatively cheap monitor model that comes in FreeSync and G-Sync variants. I own the FreeSync version, it was like 200 bucks USD at the time (don't know what that is in dollarydoos). Great response time, color depth is somewhat poor, but great starter adaptive sync monitor. G-Sync version is $200 more. Acer's G-Sync offering is currently cheaper than AOC's and probably your best bet.

Either way, G-Sync is never going to have a "budget" monitor.

I've been looking at similar options. If you're interested in mainly fps from what I've read g-sync is a huge bonus, I'd look into that option. I've had my eye on this monitor which seems by far the best value for the price for a g sync 144hz. Price tracker has shown its price has been lower than it currently is so getting it for $380 or so seems possible if you're willing to be patient. Again haven't had experience with it myself but here it is https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01C05C1OK/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1468632789&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=acer+predator&dpPl=1&dpID=41p-fCBPyxL&ref=plSrch

Any recommendations for good 1080p 144hz monitors with G-sync? I've been window shopping a bit and am considering this one here but I have time before I'm planning on purchasing it to explore all my options.

u/chemiicaLL · 1 pointr/buildapc

Given you're going to be at 1080p with a reasonably powerful card for the job, just going 144hz without any G-SYNC will save you some coin. You'll likely be able to push 100+ FPS easily with most games and the screen tearing will be next to unnoticeable, especially if you've never done anything above 60hz before.

The only way you'll know you don't have G-SYNC is if you've used it before and gotten used to the luxury. Don't get me wrong though, G-SYNC is very nice and spoils you.

I really like the processor and GFX card, a friend of mine who has built multiple PC's said I wouldn't have to worry about cooling problems or upgrades for a while. Any suggestions on a motherboard or CPU (in particular) that's better bang for my buck or build?

u/BabyPuncher5000 · 1 pointr/Games

There's only a $25 disparity between this 1080p G-Sync monitor and this 1440p G-Sync monitor. They're both similar panels as well, although I bet t he Dell looks better in person.

Things get way more out of whack when you start looking at high refresh rate IPS monitors though, as there are very few different IPS panels on the market that can run that fast.

u/yehhai · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I had the first one as well, but in all honesty I am much happier with my g-sync monitor. Get this if you want 1080p https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C05C1OK/ref=dp_cerb_3. Seeing that you have a 1070 it might be better to go for a 1440p monitor to take full advantage?

Looking to purchase a monitor today but I'm not sure which to go with so I'm looking for advice. Here is my parts list if needed (GTX 1070 GPU).

  1. 24' ACER with 144hz refresh rate and 1ms response time for $149.99

  2. 24' ASUS with 144hz refresh rate and 1ms response time for $249.99. Has built in speakers and better port connectivity, neither which is really important to me.

  3. Acer Predator 24' with 144hz Refresh Rate and G-Sync for $349.99.

  4. Dell Gaming 24' w/ G-Sync and Quad HD Display.

Out of those 4 monitors, I can get a really big upgrade on my current monitor for just $149.99 with the Acer. The question then becomes, how big of an impact will G-Sync make if I go with the Predator instead? And is the Quad HD of the Dell even necessary? I doubt I'll be running anything at 4K with my setup anytime soon so that would be overkill, right? But if the G-Sync is recommended then I feel like it makes more sense to spend $50 more and go with the Dell to future proof my purchase. Thoughts?

u/KrazeeJ · 1 pointr/buildapc

I've been looking into monitors, and was considering getting this one.

Is that particular monitor a good choice? It seems to be the best bang-for-your-buck monitor as far as 144hz with GSync. I was hoping to find a 1440p, 144hz monitor with GSync, but couldn't find any that were within a reasonable price point.

u/willster191 · 1 pointr/buildapc

G-sync is absolutely worth it if you ask me. It aids the gaming experience that much. I would recommend a 1080p 144+ Hz g-sync monitor like the Acer Predator XB241H before 1440p 60 Hz. This is the one that I'm currently saving up for actually. I prefer high refresh rate to added pixels. If you're sitting close to your screen, you'll be hard-pressed to find much of a difference between 1080p and 1440p, especially if you don't buy a huge screen. I also prefer 24" screens because I don't want to have to look so wide for gaming, but everyone is different. If you have the opportunity, you should go to a location where you can see the difference between each yourself.

u/SamuraiChimp · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

It is probably a decent TN panel, but it does not have G-Sync. It looks like a G-Sync 1080p 144 Hz monitor will cost around the $400-$500 range.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271H-bmiprz-1920x1080/dp/B01C05C1OK/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1491457326&sr=1-2&keywords=gsync%2B1080p%2B144%2Bhz&th=1

If you don't like the red I would recommend buying a cheap monitor stand for around $30. An added bonus is extra desk space and they more adjustable!

u/twistedrapier · 1 pointr/pcgaming

What is reasonably priced for you? G-Sync and/or IPS unfortunately adds a good chunk of change on top of any monitor you'd consider. The Benq XL2420G is an older model that matches your requirements and is at the lower end of the "pricey" region. I have one, and it's damn good.

edit: Apparently the Acer Predator XB241H is also pretty good, but I have no experience with it. Bit cheaper than the Benq though.

Thank you for helping this noob

u/Mimtos · 1 pointr/buildapc

This was on sale recently for $300. It's basically not what you asked for except the price range but its a really damn good deal for a quality 144hz 27 inch 1440p monitor. So do check it out! For what you'are actually looking for, this is one of the better budget 144hz monitors out there. Since your range seems large, I'd recommend you not do a budget monitor and get this. This would probably be the most expensive monitor you could get that fits your choice. But overall I gave you a suggestion choice, low end, mid end,and high end. As long as you're not getting a VA panel, you'll never experience ghosting.

My question is: how much of a FPS drop, assuming same in-game settings, would having a 1440p 144hz monitor over a 1080p 144hz monitor? Would GSync make the drop unnoticeable?

Two monitiors i'm looking at around the same price, one 1080p 144hz other 1440p 144hz:

Acer Predator XB241H bmipr 24-inch Full HD 1920x1080 NVIDIA G-Sync Display, 144Hz, 2 x 2w speakers, HDMI & DP

Dell Gaming Monitor S2417DG YNY1D 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit TN with G-SYNC, QHD 2560 x 1440, 165Hz Refresh Rate, 1ms Response Time, 16:9 Aspect Ratio

There's a ton of them, here's a random one - HP Omen

Here's the one I have -> Acer Predator XB241H

u/yoonj93 · 1 pointr/Monitors

Can't personally vouch against other monitors through my own observations, but having thoroughly read review after review of the available 1080p 144hz gsync monitors-- the Acer Predator XB241H was the winner for me. Love this monitor, I've had it oc'ed to 180hz since the start (monitor OSD is disgustingly weird to navigate, but once you get the hang of it, it's all gucci).

Looks like the Acer Predator XB241H is on a little sale too!

u/BeaubonicPlague · 1 pointr/buildapc

The previous monitors i listed do not have gsync but these do. Theyre a little pricier but they are outstanding monitors. First one if you want cheap. 2nd one if you want gsync as well. I'd probably step up to 1440p with a 1080ti though. That card is overkill for 1080p

u/Me-as-I · 1 pointr/nvidia

Oh I didn't see the link at the end.

That'll work. It does mean you don't benefit from the freesync, that's amd only. To get that tech with an nvidia gpu, you need a gsync monitor. Not a dealbreaker, it's still good.

I would say a 1080ti is overkill for 1080p, even at 144Hz.

You may want to consider getting something like this with a cheaper gpu like a 1080.

u/xMrBarney · 1 pointr/buildapc

That's kinda what I'm thinking - although I think I'm going to stay at 24", as I've heard some complaints with the 27".

If I'm going with the G-Sync display, I'm thinking I'm going to do the Acer Predator XB241H instead of the VG248QE. Trying to determine if the G-Sync is worth the extra $$$ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C05C1OK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_2PCgzbJQBFXCG

Since you said cheapest: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C05C1OK (TN, 24", 1080p) & https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LJUNMYK (IPS, 24", 1440p)

u/baconnbutterncheese · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Well, I'm not in Europe so price is difficult to estimate, but a 1080p, 144hz monitor should absolutely NOT be that expensive. I'm seeing $250-$300 monitors all over.

IPS is ideal when you can get it, but if you find a TN panel that's cheaper and has the specs I mentioned, that's what I recommend. Here's a few examples I found, I'm not sure if they ship to the EU or what the equivalent prices would be if so:

This is my vote. If that’s over budget too much then those are all the perfect aspects if FPS is your deal. Just kinda find the right combo for you. G sync is imperative for some and not so much for others

u/Ultima257 · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

So there’s the Acer predator that fits the bill and has G sync, for $340. Don’t want to go higher than that but it will be further down the line so I’ll keep that in my peripheral list. Thank you again for the input

EDIT: sorry, should have said why I’m recommending it. I have this monitor. It’s a TN panel, but you aren’t gonna find IPS monitors lower than 4ms. But with the right calibration, the colors look fantastic. Very simply setup both physically and calibration wise. Adjustable height and angle is clutch to get that perfect viewing angle. Since it’s a TN panel, it does suffer from poor viewing angles. Unless your straight on, you’ll see colors get washed out towards the edges if your off-Center. But that’s an issue with every TN panel. But colors are great, 1ms response time is great, G-Sync is awesome, and it’s just an all around beast of a 1080p 144hz monitor.

u/Favna · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I would recommend the Acer Predator XB241H (amazon), although it doesn’t have 1440p, just 1080. The upside is that it does have GSync and its exactly 349,99 USD.

I got 2 of em myself recently on the advice of a colleague and I really love them. Here’s some pictures:

If you are 100% sure you are getting the 1080 then save up and get this one. Or get this. I have no idea why that one is so cheap though.

If benchmarks come out and you decide to stay with AMD for some reason then this one is a pretty easy choice.

I've looked for a 1080p 144Hz monitor with G-Sync and that's significantly more expensive at $349.99, unfortunately. The ones without G-Sync are more affordable.

Without G-Sync I end up with the BenQ Zowie XL2411 in varying prices starting at $169. I'm not entirely sure if G-Sync is a necessity, though. It seems most pro gamers use the Zowie monitors, too :)

u/The_Hope_89 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Better monitor See Below edit 2

Your monitor is the best entry level 1440p monitor probably, but it will hold you back sometimes. 1070 is in a weird place between 1440p 60hz and 1440p 144hz.

Maybe drop down to the 650w G2 PSU to save 10-20 bucks. otherwise looks fun! Enjoy!

edit ignore all that putz about the monitor i linked a 1920x1080 one, let me try to find one give me a few minutes.

edit2 1440p G-Sync Monitor As I mentioned before it's pricier, but G-Sync is super awesome.

I'm trying to decide between these 2 monitors for my build here. What do you guys think?

Acer Predator XB241H or AOC G2460PG??

u/RecklessMagnetism · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm trying to find a 1920x1080p monitor with 144hz and g-sync. So far, I have been looking into these two:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824160226&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB241H-bmipr-1920x1080/dp/B01C05C1OK/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

The problem is that they both seem to have a lot of issues out of the box. Does anyone know of any quality 1080p 144hz g-sync monitors without the bleeding issue? Thanks.

u/chapstickbomber · 1 pointr/Amd

It does, but G-Sync displays have a non-trivial price premium and there are fewer models to choose from.

You can get a 144Hz 1080p Freesync display for $210

Cheapest G-Sync display on Amazon is $399

Nvidia wants to ignore how badly they got crushed on this aspect of the gaming market. You can buy a 480 and that AOC display for less than 1070, and the experience will be smoother.

And it will stay like that. Because adaptive sync makes framerates smooth that would otherwise piss you off. If nothing else, the 144hz refresh evens out the per a bit, but freesync > 144hz.

u/killacam7478 · 1 pointr/Monitors

I think the Acer is better, but it's also Freesync. If you're getting a 1070, you'd be better off finding a G-Sync monitor so you're fully utilizing the GPU (and the monitor). Maybe something like this?
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB241H-bmipr-1920x1080/dp/B01C05C1OK/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1465508278&sr=8-13&keywords=1440p+gsync

Edit: Oops that's 1080p. It looks like GSync monitors cost a bit more. I'm not too familiar with them (i'm team Red!), but I'll keep an eye out for ya!

u/RedMage928 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm thinking entry-level, budget G-Sync since G-Sync is already treating myself.
