Hi sorry sorry I took so long to reply ok, so here are my two options for you. The HP EliteBook 840 G1 14-inch Ultrabook 3.5lbs in your budget range. The second one I would recommend is the Acer Swift 3 14inch laptop.

If build quality is important, go with this. Has an aluminum body, i3, 1080p IPS display and SSD.

If you can deal with a 14.0'', my best suggestion would be the Acer Swift 3 for $500. For $500 you can get a decent model with a skylake i3 processor, 4gb of ram and a 128GB SSD. It also has a full 1080p IPS display, a backlit keyboard, and an all aluminum build. It's also pretty lightweight and has a very long battery life.

If you can, i would suggest going up to the $650 model of the Acer Swift 3 for more powerful specs. This models specs include a skylake i5 processor, 8gb of ram and a 256gb ssd.

If you really want a 13.3'' and you're interested in a 2 in 1, I would suggest the Acer Spin 5 for $500. It has identical specs to the first one but with more ram (Skylake i3 processor, 8gb of ram and 128GB SSD). It also is pretty lightweight, has a full 1080p IPS display, and a pretty long battery life.

Can you push your budget a little and get the Acer Spin 5 because it over great value for money, it comes with Intel Core i5-6200U Processor, Intel HD Graphics 520, 8GB of ram (which is enough ram for smooth multi tasking), 256GB of SSD (I wouldn't recommend any less, but if you can't push your budget then you can compromise on this part and get this Acer-Swift with half the storage and half the ram) , 6-10 hours of battery life, (1920 x 1080) resolution with 13.3 inch screen, it is also light weight at 3.53 lbs, and it has 2 in 1 feature (which is nice if want to use it in a tablet mode)

This laptop will be just about the best thing you can get for your maximum budget. I will call it computer 3.

With computer 1, you're getting a lower price, slower solid state storage (SSD > eMMC > HDD), and a slower CPU.

With computer 2, you're getting a medium price, a larger and even slower harddrive, and the same CPU as computer 3 (better than computer 1).

With computer 3, you're paying your maximum budget (maybe a little over if you pay tax), a the fastest harddrive with less capacity than computer 2, the same CPU as computer 2 (better than computer 1), and an IPS display, which should mean better color representation, a more vibrant look.

Finally, I don't know anything about the build quality of these laptops, but typically really cheap laptops feel pretty cheap, so there is a decent chance you'll get a more "solid" feel and/or a better feeling keyboard. Hope that helps!

Get either this Acer Swift 3 or this Acer Spin 5..They both have an i3 processor, 4 GB RAM, and beautiful IPS display and of course, will easily run Microsoft Office. The Acer Spin 5 I think will suit your needs better as it has a touchscreen and can be flipped into a tablet.

What are you thoughts on the Acer Swift 3?

If you can stretch your budget, I'd recommend the Acer Swift 3. Otherwise, the Asus Vivobook is a well built but fairly underpowered machine. Both are under 3.5 pounds. I'm sure there are better deals during Black Friday, so keep on a lookout.
