I would go for something like this ASUS ZenBook UX430UA-DH74 Ultra-Slim Laptop with the powerful 8th gen i7 processor, 16 GB RAM and a fast 512 GB SSD..This laptop will complete the tasks that all computer science major would have to do in their area of study and with 16 GB RAM and one of the latest processors on the market, you can be sure it will perform well for several years from now. Apart from performance, it has a nice battery life, excellent build quality and a wonderful color accurate display. You will also like it's slim and sleek aluminum design.
If you think you might want to run some mid level graphics games in the future, I would recommend you go for this Acer Swift 3 that has a similar battery life, build quality and design as well as overall performance, but has a dedicated mx 150 graphics card.
Actually for light gaming I would advise you to get the Acer Swift 3 the MX 150 GPU should help with that .
You have a better budget than you think. $1000 can get a very good laptop for your needs. If you want to stick to the ASUS line that you have been looking at so far the ASUS VivoBook S would be a decent laptop to consider as it has a low power graphics card that will be able to run less intensive games well. Its build it not as good as the Zenbook like but it does have more power for less. The keyboard is comfortable to use IMO but that is something that is subjective.

As an alternative, you could consider the Acer Swift 3 which has a better build quality but its display is dim when it is used in direct sunlight
The Acer Swift 3 i5 seems to be over.
The i7 is actually $100 cheaper now on Amazon.

Hi,
It appears that the Acer Swift 3 is no longer available. But, I would recommend an i7 Acer Swift 3 version if you can afford it. Stronger build quality, better components, and lighter than the Acer Aspire E 15. But, if you're on a budget, the Acer Aspire E 15 is still a good option.
I would recommend this [Acer Swift 3] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075KHGKMF/?tag=bkadamos_alltest-20) because it comes with everything you need, 8th generation, i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 8GB of ram for smooth multitasking, good SSD storage of 256GB for faster boot up and loading, 14 inch Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, long battery life, very good heat management, backlit keyboard, lightweight, all metal design, backlit keyboard, and it’s within your budget.
If you don't like this option then I would recommend that you check my best gaming and college laptop to compare it with similar options

Acer Swift 3, 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8550U, NVIDIA GeForce MX150, 14" Full HD, 8GB LPDDR3, 256GB SSD, SF314-53G-87EQ is the laptop you want mx150 will run Overwatch in med settings ,general use
For your usage you would need [I7 quad core] processor and [GeForce MX150] GPU.
I would recommend [Acer Swift 3 ]( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075KHGKMF/) as it comes with: -
CPU: i7-8550U
GPU: GeForce MX150
RAM: 8 GB
Display: FHD 14 IPS screen
Storage: 256 GB SSD
Long battery life
It is a great choice because of its great heat management system and high build quality, along with its specifications makes it the best option for your usage and it is within your budget.
You can get the Acer Swift 3 which weighs under 4 lbs and has a 14" screen. It is well built and has an aluminum chassis so if it gets a few bumps when you travel it won't break. While a dedicated GPU is not a requirement for you it does not hurt to have it as it does not drain the battery when you are not gaming. Its battery life is around 10 hrs
Thanks for the input! Another user recommended the Acer Swift 3 with an i5 but for $999 there's a version with an i7 and I think it's a faster version of an i7 than the Eluktronics has:

I also think I like the Acer form factor better as well. It seems the only sacrifices are 8GB ram instead of 16, and 14" screen instead of 15.6". I'm guessing the GPU isn't as good either, though I'm not sure.
