Excellent timing!

I just picked up an AcuRite smartHUB with three thermometers/humidity sensors for $100. Acurite just started a sale today so you can get it for $90 with free shipping. They make bundles with outdoor (more rugged), indoor (nice display on the sensor), or mixed.

The smartHUB plugs into your router and collects data from up to 10 sensors. You can view the data on AcuRite's website, share it with WUnground, or head over to WXForum where guys have developed ways of automating data feeds and storing in mySQL, etc.

You can stick these thermometers lots of places. People put them in crawlspaces and set up text alerts when they reach freezing. Or up in the attic and set similar alert for too hot. Or even in your fridge and freezer and set warnings when temp gets too high.

You can get ones that have a soil probe to help with spring gardening.

Other ones have a moisture probe so you can put anywhere you want to watch for water leaks, like water heater, washing machine, etc.

They also sell a 3-in-1 and 5-in-1 that adds rain meter, wind speed, and wind direction. I ended up getting one of these separately with the HD display and lightening meter. I'll use the display in my kitchen for quick-glance use, but I will also stream data to the hub for mobile use. Plus I can share with my neighbors.

Let me know if you have any questions. I just spent many hours looking through the various manufacturers before settling on AcuRite.

The AcuRite site is a bit of a mess. Just know that pretty much any sensor can feed into the Hub. But the displays are tied to specific types of sensor.

You will also hear people complain about the new firmware for the hub. That should all be resolved as of a few weeks ago.

My stuff should start arriving tomorrow. So if you want to ping me in a few weeks I can give you a hands-on evaluation.

Good luck!
