I can't speak for anyone else, but here's why I love my GH4:

  • it only costs [$1297.99 (on sale) with LOG] (https://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMC-GH4-Mirrorless-Recording-DMW-SFU1-VLOG/dp/B01D40CASW//ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=battleforthew-20) (even at the normal $1497.99 price, this is below most of the 4K competition)

  • it has a built-in headphone jack

  • it has a fully articulated LCD

  • it has no 30 minute recording time limit and can record for hours continuously (in the EU you have to pay a few more £ or € to get a GH4R that avoids the limit) - all Sony, Canon and Nikon still/video cameras in this price class are limited to 30 minutes, no matter where you live

  • 10-bit 4:2:2 output via HDMI - competition is limited to 8-bit 4:2:0 internal and external

  • it sets shutter angle in degrees, like a professional video camera - the competition sets shutter speed in seconds, like still cameras

  • its micro 4/3 mount is compatible with just about every lens ever made - Sony E mount is as good or better, but Canon mount is only compatible with Nikon and PL - while Nikon mount is only compatible with PL

  • it has a 4:3 anamorphic mode for natural de-squeeze of anamorphic lenses

  • SMPTE color bar and tone generator

  • SMPTE time code embed in rec run or free run

  • Master pedestal, gamma curve and other pro video controls

  • compatibility with affordable power zoom lenses (Sony has this feature, but the rest of the competition does not - unless you count the Canon 80D, with its external zoom motor)

In my view, the GH4 is the closest you can get to a 4K cinema camera in this price class.

    Hope this answers the question!
