I ordered this generic OTG + power plug from amazon a few weeks ago to try and get an XBOX controller to work. I haven't played with it to get that working but just tested the cable with a few drives and the Note 4 was able to see and use a 64 GB thumb drive. I plugged in a 500 GB external drive (western digital) and the phone showed it as not be a supported file system. (The 500 GB drive is NTFS.)

I found another little USB that I could format and did some testing. Seems like the Note 4 doesn't like NTFS but will handle ExFAT and FAT32 just fine. I don't have any movie files that are 4 GB or bigger to test out but I did copy over a HD movie clip to the thumb drive to test playback which worked great. There wasn't any lag at all for the 70 second video.

Might as well be thorough, right? Next up I connected a 1 TB 3.5" HDD to an adapter and connected its USB 3.0 to my cheap OTG cable. I needed to format the drive (it had previously been wiped) and did so through the phones interface. I didn't check but imagine it formatted the 1 TB drive to FAT32 as it did with my smaller USB drive. Screen shot result.

If there is anything else I can check I'll try and do it (if I know how.)

This is the one that worked for me (I can charge using the cable, despite the description claiming otherwise).
