I5 8400 is $179

Ryzen 2600x is $229

Yet the i5 8400 is faster?

$249 at Amazon

I would like to second some of the other people here.

Despite knowing this is the Intel subreddit, since you have to replace your motherboard anyways, you might find it worthwhile instead looking at AMD's Ryzen platform. A 2600 ($15 cheaper), 2600X (same price as the 9400f) or 3600 ($50 more) may prove a more worthwhile buy.

It would help more to know exactly what your usecase is, but, going for Ryzen should be the correct choice in the price range of that 9400f in more circumstances than the 9400f would be. Also take into account that the Ryzen CPUs are all unlocked and may be overclocked whereas only K-SKU's on Intel may be.

I hope that this gave you some more insight!

u/B-Knight · 12 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Wait, you bought an i3-8100 7 days ago for $130?! Or last year? Not that it'd be any better.

With all due respect dude, you got what you deserve for not properly researching. For the same price or a tiny bit more this year you could've gotten:

Ryzen 5 2600X = £119

Ryzen 7 1700 = £126 (used)

Probably loads of used 4th/5th gen i7's that'd blow the 8100 out of the water for the same price.

The two logical choices are the Ryzen 5 2600X or Intel Core i5-9400F. However since the motherboards for AMD's CPUs tend to be less expensive than those for Intel's, I'd get the Ryzen 5 2600X.

If you also need to get the motherboard and RAM from Amazon, here's a couple suggestions:

The 3400G has no point in favour(except the useless in that case integrated gpu)compared to the old 2600/2600X and costs very little less.

Get a windows 10 pro OEM key and use the money saved to get a better hardware.

https://www.allkeyshop.com/blog/buy-windows-10-professional-cd-key-compare-prices/

Ryzen 2600X, always faster than the 3400G and with 6C/12T instead 4C/8T, same price.

https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-Processor-Wraith-Cooler/dp/B07B428V2L/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=2600x&qid=1566549660&s=gateway&sr=8-1

For the motherboard go with the AORUS B450M, still micro-atx but with better vrm section and 4 dimm slot.

https://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-B450-AORUS-Thermal-Motherboard/dp/B07FWY246F/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=GIGABYTE+B450+AORUS+M&qid=1566548666&s=electronics&sr=1-3

For the ram go with the 3200Mhz, the price is not so different from the 3000mhz and in the ryzen 2xxx the frequency of the ram is never enough. This one go without any problem at 3200mhz in all the 4 dimm slot(in many MB it slow down when you use all of them).

For the ssd go with a NVME one, not a simple and slower sata-on-m2 like the one you linked, this is good and immensely faster than a m2-sata one.

The rest is ok.

I think it's just an automated system that just pulls the information in from god knows where. A lot of the major hardware summaries on Amazon have massive inaccuracies like these.

Check out this multicoloured Core i7 that runs at 240 volts and only uses 1 watt of electricity:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-BX80684I78700-Core-i7-8700-Processor/dp/B07598HLB4/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=intel+i7&qid=1555462828&s=gateway&sr=8-1

Or this 2600x that needs 220 volts and requires one "A" battery:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-YD260XBCAFBOX-RYZEN5-Socket-Processor/dp/B07B428V2L/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=ryzen+2600x&qid=1555463687&s=computers&sr=1-1

I'd hate to think that someone who doesn't know better tried to overclock their processor with insane voltages because of the nonsense on the Amazon product listing.

After looking on Amazon, I was appalled to find that the AMD cooler is only included for certain AMD processors. There's not even a correlation to why only some have coolers included but if you take the Pure Rock Slim out of your list, you can throw an extra $20 and get a 2600X with a cooler included! https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-Processor-Wraith-Cooler/dp/B07B428V2L/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1542748942&sr=1-5&keywords=ryzen+5+1600x

This is the same price on Amazon (99 cents cheaper actually), not sure why someone would go through eBay aside from maybe avoiding sales tax.

Any links to what? That one open box Ryzen processor that showed up at one location? The Ryzen 7 1700 is $200 at Microcenter right now. Combine that with the fact that open box processors at Microcenter get marked down 10-20% depending on the location, timing, and the person who marked the price down, and you end up with an open box processor that's marked at $159.96 (see the postscript for how one could "value" the processor alone at under $150, again, binning of Ryzen CPUs aside). For the open box processors the combo discounts need not apply. The processor is marked down independently of the various combo discounts on other items purchased with them. And, their system will not take those combo discounts off other items when buying an OB processor in store, at least not with a manager override. Or, just in general, I'm not sure why you're even bringing up the combo pricing at Microcenter. That only applies if you're buying a motherboard (or certain other things) with it, and even if you do, the discounts are taken off the other items. The processor's price is exactly as listed, and according to your links, Microcenter has it for $50 cheaper than Amazon or Newegg before tax. If anything, you can knock an extra $5 off the new pricing with a coupon from retailmenot to offset some of the sale tax if you can buy it from elsewhere tax free (and you're self-reporting unpaid sales tax on your tax return anyway, right?).

And, if you don't believe that they sometimes take 20% off OB processors, there's an open box Ryzen 5 2600X for $186.96 at the Queens/Flushing Microcenter. That's 20% off the $229.99 pricing that is going on everywhere right now. I could even provide you with Amazon and Newegg links that are entirely irrelevant because it's just a single deal that one person might get. And, with that Ryzen chip, you don't even need to buy a motherboard with it to get that $184+ tax pricing.

Yeah, you have to catch a good sale, and the other guy got a good sale from a single private seller. There were a couple listings for 16GB of DDR4 on my local craigslist the other week for $90 and $100. If I had gotten either of those and said I got 16GB of 3200MHz G.Skill RAM, it's not like anyone else would be able to get that price very often. An even more vast majority of users here are nowhere within driving distance of Gloucester, MA either, but that doesn't negate the fact that someone sold something well below market price. And, I can't link you to it, since the posting is gone at this point. It really doesn't matter what the new retail prices are if you find a one-off good deal, and that was all (I think) he was stating. People sell things here, FB, CL, etc for far below what things are worth, and for the lucky SOB that gets it, if they don't provide proof of purchase in general discussion, does that make them a troll?

He just said he had gotten a deal. He was not price policing, so he doesn't need to show that it was a "normal" or "regular" attainable deal, unless you're just trying to use it as your own "proof" of lower pricing when you try to price police someone else's thread to get them to sell something lower than they need to, even if you weren't planning on buying their item anyway...

P.S. $159.96 in MA ends up as $169.96 after tax. Suppose you bought a Pi Zero W for $5 along with it (just for the sake of argument, since they're currently back to $10). Add that Pi with a $5 retailmenot coupon, and that drops its price to 1 cent, so you're looking at $169.97 out the door. Then, since people buy Wraith Spire LED heatsinks for $15-40 fairly regularly on eBay, let's just say that after shipping and fees and all that stuff from selling on eBay, you net about $20 back from selling the heatsink (to get it "closer" to the 1700X that doesn't come with a heatsink). So, it's at about $150 in value for just the chip and the Pi Zero W. Then, sell that Pi on eBay for about $17 shipped, and after all the fees and shipping and stuff, you net about $10, sinking your "cost" for the Ryzen 7 chip to about $140. Now, maybe that chip overclocks to 4.1GHZ, maybe his 1700X only does 3.9GHz, or maybe vice versa, but it's still a singular lucky deal for an 8-core first-gen Ryzen chip for about $140-150. But hey, he can't provide you proof that it happened, so it obviously didn't and the OP is just trolling. And, if you want me to go take a picture of my receipt showing my open box Ryzen chip for $159.96 + tax, I'm not going to bother, whether you believe that it happened or not. Now, if I wanted to try to use that deal as somehow a means to price police, yeah, maybe I'd need some proof...

Im actually doing a build which has the same price range. If you want a more upgradable, better performing one (because it has a better gpu) follow this one. For the record, for those games hes never gonna need more than 240gb ssd, and that cooler isnt necesarry (one comes in the cpu box)

As mentioned earlier the Intel chip doesn't provide any benefit over Ryzen, the stability issues were due to it being a new platform and have been sorted out via bios updates at least with my chip. In which case I would recommend 2600x I would then put the extra money towards another ram stick personally but this is not needed.

Also note that either processors are more than strong enough for gaming and the determining factor would be the graphics card. But maybe you wish to do video rendering in which case the 8600k can be over clocked to higher speeds.

u/toxicity959 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Probably the best you can do for gaming at $400:

  • Ryzen 2600X - the best budget gaming CPU on the market right now

  • MSI B450I - a micro ITX board, but has one of the best VRMs of any B450 chipset. (Alternatively: MSI B450 Tomahawk - slightly worse VRMs, but you probably won't notice any difference on a 2600X, and this is a full size ATX board.)

  • 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX - DDR4 3000MHz, C15. Highly rated, and some of the cheapest RAM around. Not much to look at, but performance wise, the best you'll get for this price.
u/lmvg · 1 pointr/buildapc

You guys are really changing my mind, the i5 8400 and the Ryzen 5 2600X are at the same price. What do you think should I go for it? In that case I need to choose a different motherboard right?

u/ProfessorDaen · 1 pointr/Twitch

I would recommend the following:

  • Ryzen CPU, probably R5 2600 ($165) or R5 2600X ($200) if you want to push the budget
  • 16GB of DDR4 RAM, maybe something like G.Skill Ripjaw V 3200MHz ($110)
  • A B450 or X470 motherboard, mostly user preference and budget. You'd have $125 to spend if you went with the R5 2600 and Ripjaw V, so you'd probably get more mileage out of a B450 board. I don't really have a specific recommendation here, unfortunately.

Shopper from Mexico here, trying to get a good build out of the amazon hot sale currently ongoing, is it permited to post a wishlist so people can review it ?

also, something i find very odd is the Ryzen 5 2600x being cheaper in base cost than the 2600? is this a generational thing? ( where a more recent 2600 base would be better?) or it amazon pulling an amazon? here are the 2 examples:

2600x at sub 4k pesos

2600 base at plus 4.5k pesos

If you're still wanting this, I was about to buy a 2600x and a B450m Gaming Plus mobo on Amazon last night for almost the same price. I think the motherboard in this combo is a little better so I'm glad I saw this, but I don't think you'll be unhappy with that B450 if this one would've fit your needs anyway.

Not bad fam.

But I don't think you'll be happy with that Ryzen 3, See if you can get a Ryzen 5

https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Processor-Wraith-Cooler-YD1600BBAEBOX/dp/B06XNRQHG4

It'll cost you an extra 20, but it'll be wildly better than the Ryzen 3.

And if you can afford an extra 40

https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-Processor-Wraith-Cooler/dp/B07B428V2L/

I use the Ryzen 5 2600x and I love it.

IDK if Amazon sells AMD directly, but it does look like "AMD" is the seller.

Quick question: I bought a Ryzen 5 2600x

https://www.amazon.de/AMD-Ryzen-2600X-Prozessor-Basistakt/dp/B07B428V2L (sorry for german)

on amazon's page it doesn't say anything about a cooler though, so what should I pick?

Which cooler do u have?

u/The_Real_Abhorash · 1 pointr/computers

So here's what I would recommend ditch your motherboard and CPU buy a Ryzen 5 2600x. For the motherboard get a ASRock Atx Motherboard B450 Pro4 its out of stock on amazon at the moment but it will be in stock again on the 24th you could also order it from newegg. Your current CPU cooler should have come with a AMD AM4 mount but if you don't have it the CPU does come with a decent cooler and you won't really need to overclock it so it should work fine, You could also buy a mounting kit for AMD CPU's from Corsair. Next on the list would be a video card otherwise the new CPU would be bottle necked so I think you should get a ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1060 AMP Edition, New it costs $279.99 but you can buy a used one off amazon for $206.24 either way you should have some money left $606.59 if you go with new and $532.84 if you go with used. After that you'll want some new ram so I would recommend the Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB(2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 2666MHz, If you went with the new video card that will put you at $716.58 if you went with the used video card that will put you at $642.83. Just in case you don't know this your old ram won't work in a ddr4 slot so don't try and force it in. In any case if you went with the used video card or you don't mind spending a little over budget I would next get a ssd my recommendation would be the Intel SSD 760P Series 256GB M.2 80MM PCIe 3.0 X4 That with the used video card will bring the total up to $715.82 with the new video card it would be $789.57. Anyways I hope that helps a little bit.

I'm in a similar boat. Jump on the 2600x.

Cable Management was a nightmare with this build. Not a lot of space to work with. I already suck with cable management on most builds.

Sure here you go. That's including the CPU and HDD if you decide to go the "everything from Scorptec" route, I'd probably get this and this from Amazon instead unless shipping the HDD on Amazon makes that come out to be more than just including the HDD from Scorptec. I'd do whatever's cheaper on the HDD, the CPU I'd probably go with the 2700X which Scorptec doesn't have, but your call. If you decide you want to bring the price down a little that CPU wouldn't be a bad way to do so.

Another thing you could do to bring the price down if you'd like is go with a non-modular power supply but that makes building and cable management a lot more of a pain, plus generally isn't great for airflow since you'll have a bunch of unused cables jammed in your case. Semi-modular wouldn't be bad either, but at that point it probably is going to be very little price difference from fully modular.

And again I just picked a cheap case with good reviews so if you'd like a different case I'd just look for any ATX(not mini-ATX or micro-ATX) that you like that has good reviews and make sure it's one that you can put two case fans on the front and one in the rear.

Edit: By the way I just googled and put in a random Sydney, Australia postal code to see if it would offer free shipping or anything, the cheapest shipping it offered was $35. So if your actual shipping isn't far off from that then that's not too bad.

what do you mean “AMD 2X00 processors are not teased yet”? Have you not been paying attention? They were released last thursday. Massive gains! 4.35ghz is huge for ryzen 1.

Solid GPU, so you'll be able to run Fortnite fine and shaders in Minecraft fine.

With Minecraft, GPU doesn't really matter (unless you use shaders as I mentioned above). Minecraft is pretty much all CPU and RAM.

For your CPU, you have a good multicore score, but multicore doesn't mean anything if the game isn't coded for multicore, which Minecraft isn't. Without making you spend a ton more and making you change your motherboard, you could get a 2600X for a few more dollars, or you could get a Ryzen 7 2700X for a lot more. The i5-9600K is also an option, and has a better single core score than the 2700X, but you'll have to find a new motherboard that has an LGA1151 socket. But it has a better single and multicore score than the 2600X.

AMD vs Intel is pretty controversial in the community, as Intel is kinda playing catchup with their cores right now and their price-point can be a little higher. But if all you're doing is Minecraft you'll want to focus on singlecore more than multicore (don't totally disregard multicore though). Don't feel like you have to break the bank though.

For your RAM, maybe go with DDR4-3600, you don't have to go with RGBs like in the one I linked, but it's not much more and it'll be a lot better for your dollar.

Not sure if you’re going to sell this if the retail price is $149

Why would you waste money buying an APU if you're going to have a discrete GPU? All that does it give you a weaker CPU than you could have for the same money. For example, for a whopping $6 more, you could throw a 2600X in that build and gain 2 cores / 4 threads at the same clock speeds and IPC.

https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-Processor-Wraith-Cooler/dp/B07B428V2L/ref=sr_1_11?keywords=ryzen&link_code=qs&qid=1572414538&refinements=p_89%3AAMD%2Cp_n_feature_four_browse-bin%3A18107800011%7C18107801011%7C18107802011&rnid=676578011&s=electronics&sr=1-11

And before you try to claim that it's better because it starts with a 3, the 3xxx APUs are still using the Zen+ architecture from the 2xxx series, so there's no improvement in IPC.
