Get a tempered glass screen protector. The Switch screen wont shatter if dropped, but the flip side is it scratches and scuffs easily. These are pretty good.

u/Cato_Keto_Cigars · 118 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

GET A Tempered Glass Screen Protector NOW. The screen is plastic and can scratch when taking it in and out of the dock

I can testify on those controller grips, but the model I got had larger trigger paddles. There are a lot of manufactuers of the design - seems some have better triggers than others. Here is the AmazonBasic branded one.

it is also worth pointing out that there is a "Pro" controller that is shaped like a normal console controller.

More general wisdom; If you buy a 2nd dock - be on the lookout for Chinese knockoffs. The Switch does NOT use a normal USB C plug - the voltage is different. (even though it is shaped identically). Using the wrong plug can fry the system (much like first gen USB-C phones. Do research first.

There are cases for the switch to protect when traveling - but not useful when dropped. Examples

There are Grip cases - but they will not protect from a fall. And the joycons will be in the case. Example Which may affect any travel case - if you use one. The Amazon page claims drop protection, but I'm doubtful on any of these. And the Joycons "popping" off when dropped may be a safety feature intended by Nintendo. (much like the console sitting vertical when docked for heat distribution)

There is no drop proof case. IMO.

Also, keep an eye on Bionic, they make some cool joy con chargers. Easiest way is to just leave it connected to the switch charging.

The pro controller will charge via micro USB like a Xbox controller.

screen protector Love this screen protector. Doesn't noticeable affect the screen brightness. I honestly just wipe the screen with a microfiber cloth (or my tshirt) haven't had any issues.

u/Forstride · 40 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

amFilm has great tempered glass screen protectors that you can get pretty cheap on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Protector-amFilm-2017/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1536095679&sr=8-3&keywords=amfilm+switch

You'll definitely want to apply it yourself though, as it's very tricky (I've even screwed it up a few times myself).

u/pmo2408 · 38 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I was Xbox forever, started a new job on the road and decided to go for the switch as well for portability. Good choice.

Must Buys Accessories:

Screen protector - there is a 2 pack on amazon:

amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch 2017 (2-Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_XMpaCbKXMWRXR

SD card (if going digital with games) - maybe go 256gb, amazon has a sale on them, you only need U1 speeds for the switch:

SanDisk 256GB Ultra microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card with Adapter - 100MB/s, C10, U1, Full HD, A1, Micro SD Card - SDSQUAR-256G-GN6MA https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0758NHWS8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_GOpaCbW67RGST

Carrying cases - I have two, one for the whole collection (switch, joycons, dock, charger, hdmi):

AmazonBasics Travel and Storage Case for Nintendo Switch - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072C9BVTW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ePpaCbSBT7C1S

And one for the switch in handheld mode. I use both quite frequently:

Orzly Carry Case Compatible With Nintendo Switch - RED Protective Hard Portable Travel Carry Case Shell Pouch for Nintendo Switch Console & Accessories https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y6DYRXF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_dQpaCbHY3E5B4

Pro controller - easier to play games in docked mode than the joycons.

Smash is out next Friday, but it looks like the best game of the year material.

Pokémon Let’s Go is a spin off, remake of yellow version, but it is a great game. Maybe not $60 great for gameplay, but for nostalgia. I’d say a fair price is around $40.

Games suggested:

Must Play Exclusives:

Zelda: BOTW (10/10) little bit of a learning curve, but open world game with 100+ hours of content

Super Mario Odyssey (9.5/10) very laid back and at times almost too easy, but overall very fun and creative. 30 hours of content

—————

Exclusives W/ Friends or Online:

Mario Kart 8 (9/10)

Super Mario Party Switch (8.5/10)

—————

Other Top Tier Exclusives:

Splatoon (8.5/10) (may be stressful online, but awesome game for both online play and “salmon runs”)

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze (8.5/10) (tough game but such awesome level design, music; this game can become frustrating)

Mario Rabbids (8.5/10) (fun game, again, can become frustrating as it is a strategy, turn based game with Nintendo characters)

Pokémon Let’s Go (8.5/10) (fun game, super nostalgic trip back to the past of Pokémon origins but now in 3D with alolan forms)

We still don’t know about Super Smash Bros Ulitmate, but I can’t imagine it won’t be a 9 or 9.5 out of 10.

Golf story is the next exclusive game I’ll be getting some time down the road, very hit or miss with people however.

Disclaimer: I don’t really get non exclusives on switch, as I can get them on PC for cheap 9/10 times (except red dead). Also, I do not care for JRPG’s, so I can’t comment on Xenoblade, Octopath, Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter etc.

As others have pointed out, indies are great for the Switch, not too demanding to require further CPU or GPU Power to hinder gameplay, but you will pay the “Nintendo tax”. This is that Nintendo hardly has sales on games. But the point of the Switch is gaming on the go, so it’s a good trade off. If that’s not your reasoning, then stick with indies on stronger consoles or PC.

Joycons are not too small, I would pair them with these if you want to use them single player (like Mario kart or Mario party):

Everything mentioned here is great advice. I would only add to get a carrying case and screen protector. As for games the Pokémon: Let’s Go games, you can play coop and help him, and any Lego game are also great for kids.

u/lodum · 30 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

>Can we buy and download the games through the Console's Nintendo Store like you can for Xbox and Playstation games?

Yes.

>I want a more Xbox style controller for home play

Switch Pro Controller

> is there any other well reviewed accessories that are must haves for using outside the home?

Get a screen protector. This is the one I have, it works fine. You might want a case to protect the Switch,j I have no recommendations on that. Otherwise, a carrying case is almost a necessity as you can't keep it in your pocket. I don't have any recommendations on that, either, but you can't go wrong as long as you don't get a really dumb one.

u/T_Maarhaysu · 23 pointsr/NintendoSwitch
u/cowsareverywhere · 23 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I picked these up and the ones posted look similar. The protector was real easy to apply and didn't give me any issues.

u/maxk713 · 20 pointsr/smashbros

Well since no one seems interested in answering the question and instead wants to criticize your life choices, I'll quickly go through a few things you may want to consider.

  • USB-C car charger. I got no reason to suggest this other than I really like USB-C. It honestly won't make a difference. Assuming you have a cell phone, buy whatever car charger will work with your phone too. My phone came with a USB-C to USB-C, so I got no need for USB-A ports.
  • Pro Controller. Instead of getting a GC controller and adapter, it might be easier to just buy a pro controller. It comes with a USB-C to USB-A cable, so that would be one less purchase you have to make.
  • Neither Pro Controller or GC Controller. The Switch comes with two Joy Cons and a Joy Con grip to make a pretty standard controller layout. It might not be the most comfortable, but its reasonable and obviously cheaper than buying any extra accessories.
  • Power bank. If you are going to be in a car, you may want an extra source of power for when your car isn't running. Of course that is money and if you are conscious of when you are charging, you don't need it, but it may be nice to have. Worth a thought.
  • Screen protector. Get it anyways. It would suck really bad if you bought all of this only for the screen to break. Especially if you are only playing in tabletop mode. I would recommend getting this one.

That's all I can think of for now. Feel free to ask me if you got any questions.

Easily the best screen protector for the Switch and it comes with 2 in the pack

Get a screen protector, the switch needs it. I recommend the amfilm ones on amazon, link to it. That comes with 2 screen protectors and all the tools you need to put it on for $7.99.

u/Username271980 · 16 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

As a parent, I would strongly recommended you put a screen protector on the Switch, if you haven't already. This is the one we used: amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch 2017 (2-Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_HU6TBbTDCBN4C

u/Ganrokh · 16 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Get a screen protector. it doesn't matter if you don't use one on other devices because you're careful. Get a screen protector. The Switch has a soft screen, meaning it's less likely to break on a fall, but can scratch easily. Even the dock can scratch it.

We recommend this screen protector.

u/RockerMan503 · 14 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

additionally, you can just buy a [tempered glass screen protector] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3ASPNV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and just not worry about the scratches at all.

u/Sarmathal · 14 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If you need a screen protector I highly recommend the amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector.

You should also pick up a Pro Controller. I know it's expensive but it's so worth it.

Be mindful of what accessories you personally need. People needs are different. The only global accessories that seem to be useful to everyone:

  1. A screen protector. This applies to pretty much any tablet accessory where the screen is not covered by design (like the 3DS clam shell). This is the one I got and it works well ($9.00):

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3ASPNV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  2. A carrying case. Being portable, odds are you will want to take it out at some point. Seeing it's an expensive piece of hardware, it makes sense to have a case to put everything in it for protection. You can buy the neat ones with colors and crazy designs and space, but for me, this basic one works perfectly fine ($13.00):

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06X97FLWF/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  3. An extra charger. Unless you already have a Type C charger, you will likely want to get one. Usually goes for $15.00.

    https://www.amazon.com/Charger-CHOETECH-Included-Nintendo-Supported/dp/B017I7EX46/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1506098286&sr=1-8&keywords=switch+charger

  4. If, and ONLY if you plan to get your games digitally, you WILL want an additional memory card. The one I paste below has enough space for at least 20 games given the average game space that we've seen so far (BoTW takes 14 GB, but Mario Odyssey takes 5.5 Gb, so in average, it evens out.). Note this is only the games you can have installed at a time, you can always remove one or more if you want to download another one, and games you purchase digitally will always be available for re download as long as the eshop exists.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V62XBQQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Any other accessory should REALLY be considered on a need-to basis. Not everyone needs a pro controller (depending on the games you play, I've been fine without it with only BoTW, Mario Kart, Fate/Extella and Mario+Rabbids.), and not everyone needs an extra, improved stand/dock.

Finally, do some research on what games you will actually want to play. What I've seen is that games on the switch are NOT cheap, and unless you have extra disposable income, buying a game you don't really play can lower your overall appreciation of the system. Not only that, but because releases are sparse at the moment, it's easier to jump into the hype in order to keep using your shiny new hardware. Though that really applies to any console.

Most people here usually recommend this one:

https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Screen-Protector-Nintendo/dp/B01N3ASPNV

Personally, I use regular plastic one and I'm good. I bought a tempered glass one just in case too, but never bothered to change it.

u/GalaxyVulpix · 10 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Assuming that Screen protector is plastic, you probably shouldn't use it, all you would be doing is putting plastic on plastic.

I recommend getting a protector made out of Tempered Glass like this instead.

u/GooseRider960 · 10 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

It's up to you. I'd recommend one just for peace of mind. This one is great.

As for battery? Whenever it gets low, really. There's no time you need to charge it at.

u/JackSparrowUSA · 10 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Screen protector, yes; amFilm

Pro controller: I’d say no. My kids (7,6,4 yo) prefer the joycons. For adults, the Pro Controller is a more optimal experience imo.

Battery Life: depends on the game, but call it 3 hours.

Charger: car charger or power bank may make sense of will be in the car for more than a full charge.

Get a carrying case: Butterfox

Other games: Super Mario Odyssey (1-2 players); Snipperclips Plus (retail and digital) and Overcooked (digital only) are good games for 2+ players. To play 3 player you would need an extra set of joycons or a pro controller.

u/HothMonster · 9 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I got this one it has been good. It is a bit thick since it is tempered glass but I was more worried about shatter protection than scratches. Otherwise it is perfect. No glue issues, no peeling and it's been docked through 6+ hour sessions. Whatever protector you get or if you just reapply the one you have I would recommend not using it for 8-12 hours to let the adhesive settle.

u/TemptedTemplar · 9 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

screen protector everyone seems to be using.

As for battery life, there isnt much you can do other than keeping the brightness down or buying a battery pack/ USB-C charger; you will want at minimum 5V at 2.4A (amps). That will charge the system about as fast as the system AC adapter or keep it charged while being played.

Carrying cases, joycon slip covers, dock sleeves, and anything else is really up to you. There is a huge variety of stuff already out there.

u/Gorillafist12 · 9 pointsr/functionalprint

You could just buy a screen protector. Guy these tempered glass ones for $11. Comes with two. Work great https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_z-CWAbK94HA78

Screen protector. I got https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Screen-Protector-Nintendo/dp/B01N3ASPNV Put it on correctly and you'll hardly notice it's there.

Case for travel/storage.

Because I have more people in my household, more Joy-cons.

Haven't maxed out my in-game storage yet, so memory card eventually.

Yes definitely, as the screen is plastic and scratches easily. I'd recommend this one - easy install, looks great and adds a premium feel to the Switch.

Some recommended Switch accessories:

  • A tempered glass screen protector such as ORLZY, Spigen or AMFilm. All are excellent only reason AMFilm gets more recommendations as it was first to market.

  • A protective case like Hori Tough Pouch

  • Hori LAN Adapter if you play online lots as the Switch has very weak WiFi service. Also other lan adapters may work but only the Hori one is officially supported.

  • Hori Play Stand if you frequently play in table top mode or need to charge while in table top mode.

  • Pro Controller

  • The [Google Pixel USB C-C charger] (https://store.google.com/product/usb_type_c_18w_power_adapter) as it is easy to find locally, even on sale, and more compact than the Nintendo one but it won't power the dock.

  • Nintendo A-C cable (comes with the Pro Controller)

  • Your choice of headphones

  • A larger bag such as Butterfox Carry All case to hold your EDC (every day carry).

  • PowerA Cartridge Cases if you need extra game storage on the go (comes in several designs).

  • RAVPower 26800 PD a battery pack with both Type C in and out such as this one. Type C is means quicker charging and Type C out to safely power the Switch while using it.

  • PowerA Hybrid Cover might also be of interest to some people. I have not used it though as it is not my style. There are a few different colour/designs.
u/Lorben · 7 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Hello fellow gamer dad.

First and foremost, get a screen protector. The Switch has a plastic screen so it can scratch easily. Moving on.

Mario Kart is a good start for a young gamer. It has assists in the game that help keep you on the track, which is the most frustrating part of the game for new players. It's not super obvious about it so your kid won't feel like they're being helped.

There's a Black Friday bundle that includes a Switch with Mario Kart 8 for $300, the normal price of the system without a game. Best Buy and Target have advertised the bundle, other places will likely have it as well. Be aware that there was a revision of the Switch that came out a couple months ago and the bundle includes the older version. The difference is that the battery lasts for around 3 hours in the old model and 5 hours in the new. There's no functional differences so it depends on if the battery life is important to you.

The controllers are OK for a 7 year old to use. Any new thing takes some time to get used to, but it's not too bad for them.

While quite few games allow you to play multiplayer with each of you using a single Joycon, your adult sized hands will thank you if you get a Pro Controller. Some games, like Minecraft or Lego City Undercover, require you to have a full controller, either two Joycons in a grip or a Pro controller. If you get a Pro controller as a second controller you won't have to worry about if a game supports single Joycon multiplayer.

Some other good games for new players

  • Kirby Star Allies

  • Yoshi's Crafted World

  • Pokemon Let's Go Eevee or Pikachu

All of these have local co-op so you can play together. All also support two people each using a single Joycon to play together.

They also all have demos on the eShop where you can download and try a piece of the game. Since you don't know what your daughter will like you could play through the demos with her first before buying. You can't put that under a tree though, so if you want to have something for Christmas, the above 3 plus Mario Kart would be my suggestion for a new young player to play with her dad.
u/CaptainClough · 7 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Definitely a Screen Protector

A Travelling Case would be nice.

I also added Dr Scholls Moleskin to the front of my dock to reduce the risk of scratching the screen protector. (Two small strips on the parts inside the dock that are raised.)

A Memory Card also helps for the digital only games.

What color Switch did you get? I got the grey switch then bought a pair of Red Joycons and another pair of Blue Joycons. So in total I have a grey, red, and blue L Joycon and a grey, red, and blue R Joycon.

If you got the grey switch and then buy the [two color Joycon packs] (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Neon-Neon-Blue/dp/B01N6QJ58Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493753597&sr=8-2&keywords=blue+joycons) then you won't be able to get one of each color for L/R without over paying. This is because the [two color Joycon packs] (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Neon-Neon-Blue/dp/B01N6QJ58Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493753597&sr=8-2&keywords=blue+joycons) are always Red L and Blue R.

If you bought a neon switch, then buy the [two color Joycon pack] (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Neon-Neon-Blue/dp/B01N6QJ58Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493753597&sr=8-2&keywords=blue+joycons) and a pair of Grey Joycons for all combinations.

Also, don't buy Joycons on Amazon, they are stupid expensive right now.

I don't have a pro controller yet, but people seem to love it.

Games:

Zelda = Must Buy

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe = Must Buy

1-2 Switch = Great for parties/friends

Snipperclips = Great for people who don't play games often (girlfriends/parents/kids). Secret here is to not explain how to play/what to do and let them have fun and try to figure out the puzzles on their own. Act like a support character and you'll have a blast watching them.

Binding of Isaac = I love this game, but put countless hours on the PC version. Mature themes

Super Bomberman R = Classic mode with easy CPUs is fun for roommates. I haven't played through the adventure mode yet.

Wonderboy = Cute/Fun side scroller.

Has Been Heroes = I don't have this yet, apparently very difficult.

Other notes:

I started collecting amiibos after getting a switch (Be very careful, it's easy to get addicted and drop a ton of money here).

I got a Joycon charging dock since the only way to charge extra pairs of Joycons without the Joycon charging dockis to rotate them in and out of the switch while it charges/docked.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

PS I love the Switch so much. It's definitely my favorite console ever.

I use amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector with zero problems. I applied it on day one and it is still rocking strong. If you want a Micro SD card, I suggest avoiding Nintendo Switch branded SanDisk cards because they're just overpriced due to the name. The Nintendo Switch doesn't have an issue with accepting anything but branded cards unlike a PS Vita.

u/rodfather · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I've been going overboard with accessories. Here's what I picked up so far:

Glass screen protector - Just in case.

128GB microSD card - I rarely buy physical games

Pro Controller - I love it. So comfortable.

PowerA Hybrid Case - I basically use this as a stand for my Switch when I'm on the go.

JDeal portable dock - It works. Make sure to follow the instructions. Works with my Nexus5x 5v 3A portable charger.

[Retractable HDMI cable] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019J96PSI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Hestia case - The Switch with the PowerA Hybrid Case, portable dock, portable USB-C charger, and retractable HDMI cable all fit in this.

USB 3.0 LAN Adapter - Faster speeds when on the official dock.

Gooseneck tablet holder - Ultimate comfort. Play while in bed.

Magic NS Wireless Adapter - I had originally bought this so I could use my PS4 controller. This was before I picked up the Pro Controller. It works. There was a recent firmware update that gives gyro support for PS4 controllers and it works well with Splatoon 2.

On the way:

Mumba case - For better comfort/protection while playing in handheld mode.

This tempered glass screen protector is pretty solid if anyone needs a recommendation!

u/mcantrell · 5 pointsr/KotakuInAction

Get a screen protector immediately, the dock scratches the screen. Until you have one, leave it docked as much as you can (the scratches come from being slid into the dock / taken out, not from standard use).

I got this one, it's great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3ASPNV/

I also got this for it, but it won't fit in the dock anymore with it, which is fine for me as I don't use the dock: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0716KM5BB/

I have a spare charger for the switch, for trips and playing Disgaea 5 while in bed, which is just a Google Pixel charger: https://store.google.com/product/usb_c_18w_power_adapter_2?srp=/product/usb_type_c_18w_power_adapter

u/GreninjaNerfer · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

On accessories - must haves definitely include (like everyone else said):

  • microSD card (64GB minimum imo, 128 is what I have because I have a fair amount of digital games)
  • A TEMPERED GLASS screen protector. This is easily the best screen protector on the market.
  • A travel case. I would recommend a nondescript black one; you don't want something that says "STEAL ME PLS"

    Less important things:

  • A stand (the one on the back of the Switch is pretty bad and if you use it a lot it will just snap off). The good ones are the HORI playstand with 3 angles and the official Nintendo charging stand.
  • Power banks/chargers: u/queuebitt made a whole website for this and regularly posts charger/power bank deals on r/NintendoSwitchDeals.
  • Extra controllers and Joy-Con grips: if you're going to play with multiple people you will need to get more controllers unless you want to play with the single Joy-Cons (which isn't a great experience). The Pro Controller you can find for around $60 now; in my opinion it's a really good investment.

Before we get on to games, there's always the debate of physical vs digital. Indie games are often cheaper digitally because they have to partner with companies to release physical copies, but for most "big" titles physical or digital really depends on the game.

  • Physical: the big advantage is that you can sell it once you're done with the game. This is good for games with low replayability, like Mario Odyssey; however, it comes with less convenience because you have to swap out the cartridge every time to switch games.
  • Digital comes with convenience; you don't have to swap out cartridges and you don't have to deal with potential cartridge issues, but you're stuck with the game and digital games go on sale way less often that physical games. Digital is great for games you'll open and play for a few minutes or rounds, like Mario Kart.

On to games. (these are the ones I have and can approve of)

  • Breath of the Wild is a must have if you're going to buy a Switch. It also has fantastic DLC that you'll probably want to buy along with the game.
  • Super Mario Odyssey is also really fun, but doesn't lend itself to multiple playthroughs very well. The first experience is amazing, but subsequent playthroughs don't have the same charm unless you're speedrunning.
  • Super Mario Party is a good experience for the first few times you play it but it suffers from a lack of content. I'd say get it when it goes on sale.
  • Mario Kart is a staple Nintendo game. Consider digital.
  • Smash Ultimate is also fantastic for both large groups and 2 people, but the solo modes aren't as great.
  • Overcooked 1 & 2 are so much fun, especially if you have 4 people. It quickly turns into a glorious mess and I love it.
  • Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is actually surprisingly fun for a game with maniacal rabbits. It also goes on sale ALL THE DAMN TIME so that's also a thing.
  • Splatoon 2 is a very creative, cute and charming game - but it's a team shooter game, so it's easier to get frustrated compared to other games. The DLC (Octo Expansion) is fantastic, though.
  • Hollow Knight, Celeste, and Shovel Knight are all amazing games (especially for the prices you get them at) but they're basically digital only. I'd say get him an eShop card and let him decide which games he wants.

TL;DR microSD card, screen protector, case. eShop card and get Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart at least.

Also: don't buy anything "Nintendo Switch" branded! They're literally the exact same things as the unbranded ones, just priced higher because of the logo.

My recommendations:

Lamicall stand. Extremely sturdy, folds up small, perfect for charging on the go.
I can't reccommend this thing enough. Hooked it onto the back of a seat last week while my flight was landing and had no problems with it shaking or sinking.

Amfilm tempered glass Switch protector. Thats the one I have and the one most commonly recommended on here.

u/chriskmee · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Its plastic, so its pretty low on the scratch resistance scale. Nintendo went plastic over glass probably becasue its less likely to break with kids dropping it, but the downside is that its much easier to scratch.

For only $9 you can get two top rated glass screen protectors. If you care about keeping the screen scratch free, its worth it. You can even do like I did and sell your spare one to a friend for $5 or so.

u/Sheeplover1234 · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch
  1. I personally think that the pro controller is neccesary for games like splatoon Arms (If on the go) and other titles down the road highley recommend you get one.

That's the screen protector I got, it comes with 2, so if you don't apply it the way you want to or you shatter one you still have another. You cant even tell it's there on my switch, love them.

u/DoombotBL · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Get an SD card, something with data transfer speeds of 80MB/s or better. I recommend at least 128GB if you plan on buying digital moderately, and 200GB if you want to go mostly digital. You can find great deals posted here and on the Nintendo Switch deals subreddit of which I forgot the exact name of. Something like /r/SwitchDeals or something like that.

I would recommend a pro controller as well if you have it in your budget, I have been playing with the Joycons this whole time but I'm starting to feel their limitations for Mario Odyssey. Their tiny joysticks and limited range of motion kind of hurt for precise movements in the game. I played BotW just fine with the Joycons though.

Get a screen protector of some kind because the screen is an easily scratched plastic, not glass. It is more resistant to shattering and less brittle but it can get scratched quite easily. I recommend these:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MR725H2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

HORI officially licensed plastic scratch protector is cheap and effective (the one I'm using right now). Just make sure you apply it properly and remove the bubbles as instructed. Then THIS IS IMPORTANT allow the screen to cure for 24 hours before playing the Switch in docked mode so that the glue can bond solidly. If you play it docked right after application the glue will heat up with the console and become undone and develop bubbles.

Also this:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3ASPNV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Tempered glass is a very popular protection option, as it offers the scratch protection of hard glass that the Switch doesn't come with. It even comes with 2 in case the first one shatters in a drop. This is the go to solution for most because it looks great and feels good to the touch while offering superior protection.

Be careful with the Joycon button extender and wrist strap attachment, lots of people put them on wrong early in the Switch's life and didn't know how to remove them as well. There are instructions on how to put them on and remove them on Nintendo's Youtube page. I personally don't use them at all to avoid the hassle.

Be aware the the Switch uses USB-C form factor for all connectivity directly to the console. That means if you want to charge it on the go you need to take that into account. Make sure you buy quality USB-C cables/extensions/adapters as well because a poorly made one could damage the Switch. Benson Leung has information on good USB-C accessories. The Anker Powercore 26800 is a great portable recharging solution to, if you wanna game on the go for long periods and don't have anything to plug into on the way.

Enjoy the Switch and the games! Hope you get lots of fun times out of it.

u/AetherMcLoud · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Get a glass screen protector. They cost like 5-10 bucks and you'll never have a single scratch on your switch display.

This is the one I use, works perfectly with touchscreen: https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Screen-Protector-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B01N3ASPNV

u/-MarisaTheCube- · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Congrats on getting a Switch! I'd just make sure you get a screen protector ASAP as the plastic screen is highly prone to scratches. I recommend the amFilm tempered glass protector. Other than that, enjoy yourself.

u/Lazarus1209 · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Really it's dealer's choice. IT would more depend on what kind of protection you're looking for. If you're worried about it getting tossed around, then either a soft or hard case would work. If you're more specifically worried about it getting crushed (sat on) or suffer through high impact treatment (thrown, smashed, etc.) then I would recommend a hard case as the design is more appropriate for those situations.

The one you have is one that I would use if I was simply transporting the system with me. It works for portability and to ensure it doesn't get scratched or suffer from light fall damage. The harder shell ones would be better if it's always going to be with you, and if it's going to be in a bag or back pack that is thrown around.

What I would really recommend in either event is a tempered glass protector like this. That will ensure you don't get scratches if you drop it or from the dock itself (there have been some reports of scratches from being docked/un-docked) and you can hardly tell it's there. Good luck to you, either way!

u/mynfpacc · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

congratz dude!

I highly recommend a tempered glass screen protector as well! Someone already linked the screen protector from amFilm,it's the one I use as well and it's really great!

There have been some reports that people got their screens scratched by simply getting the Switch out of its dock. So having a screen protector should be your number one priority.

Honestly, you don't need anything else, at least not right now.

If you do feel like you'll often take the switch with you when you head out then by all means get a travel case as well. Hold off on getting any extra joycon or pro controller. Both aren't exactly cheap, I'd hold off on them unless you really need them.

And just for your interest, the switch is not region locked.

Which means, if you want to buy anything from the nintendo e-shop then check out this site beforehand. https://eshop-prices.com/?currency=EUR

This site compares all the prices for a title through all the different e-shops.

You can simply go on the nintendo website and change your country in the websites settings. Then you have to re-log into your nintendo account on your switch and then you can proceed to directly buy the game through the other nations e-shop.

I've gotten several games for super cheap that way.

u/ectra040 · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch
  1. Definitely get a glass screen protector. I am from the Netherlands, but I found this on Amazon.com

  2. Depends on the game, some games let you play with a single joycon and thus you do not need to buy an extra set. (The switch comes with 2 joy-cons. You can use other controllers unoffically, but I suggest sticking with official controllers or atleast companies that acquired a licence from Nintendo to produce the controllers (like Hori).

  3. The Switch supports up to 2TB of a micro sd. However, you will most likely not need one until later, you can save a few bucks at first to buy games.
u/cavedweller333 · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

For screen protectors, I highly recommend amFilm it is currently on sale for $9, normally about 30, comes in a pack of two.

It is fairly high quality.

I wouldn't get switch brand micro sd cards as they are much more expensive, the minimum I would get is 64 Gb.

Games

I would get stardew valley for your daughter and maybe shovel knight for your son, I don't know if these have physical options or are just digital.

Mario kart 8 deluxe might also be good but it would be best to get two copies.

Most games require multiple copies for multiplayer on multiple systems, but the switch has local connection built in so you can play without an internet connection.

u/jononarf · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Buy this the same day as your switch: https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Screen-Protector-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B01N3ASPNV Put it on ASAP.

Then get a SD card ASAP.

Then get a carrying case ASAP.

u/bigylittle · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch
  • Screen Protector. I suggest a tempered glass screen protector
  • SD Card. Dpending on how committed you are to digital vs. physical, a 64gb or 128gb should hold you over. Wait for them to go on sale, they go on sale pretty often.
  • Carrying case. I recommend the ButterFox carrying cases, they come in different sizes so pick one that suits you.
  • A stand. By stand I mean something that will hold your Switch and provide access to the USB port for charging. Some recommend the Hori play stand, for me that's a bit too bulky and went with one meant for cellphones, works wonders.
  • Portable battery pack, look for ones with at least 2.1A output to sustain gameplay when charging.
  • Pro controller, it's essential on most games, literally night and day from the joy cons. I suggest getting the Xenoblade version because it has an updated D-Pad that the original has.
  • Another dock, theres a lot of controversy here. There are 3rd party options out there they have been noted as dangerous to your Switch and may brick it and render it useless. From my experience, I've had great success with the Nyko dock and the Best Buy Insignia dock, use these at your own risk. You could play it safe and buy another official Nintendo dock. it's not as cheap however.

  2. Lots of different cases and opinions on them. Personally I use a Butterfox: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06W585TW7/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I like it a lot. If you want to carry the dock and what not there are other options. Personally I use that and another larger case to carry the dock, charger, shell for the Joy-Cons and two Joy-Con handle cases

Beyond that it's all personal preference. If you go handheld all the time you might want to look at the Skull & Co: https://www.amazon.com/Skull-Co-GripCase-Set-Comfortable/dp/B078WGT97X/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1519056026&sr=8-5

I don't know how comfortable grip is. I haven't used handheld mode ever since I got the pro controller. But it seems very sturdy and got 5 star reviews on amazon.

fyi try this goose neck mount if you want to play on the bed! I love this one when I'm feeling super lazy. But it's pain in the ass to adjust and put the switch on the mount. Maybe there is better one someone else can suggest.

Edit: forgot to mention, you cannot use the stand when its on the case! I wish it has a stand built in on the case. Also I dont know if it fits in the dock because I took it apart and replaced it with smaller dock.

u/KoolAidMan00 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Outside of the standard Zelda, Mario Kart 8 DX, and Splatoon 2, I also recommend Puyo Puyo Tetris (I love competitive puzzle games like Tetris Attack and Super Puzzle Fighter 2 so I've played it 35+ hours, more if you count the demo that is also on the eShop), Shovel Knight Treasure Trove, Graceful Explosion Machine, Thumper, Gonner, Binding Of Isaac Afterbirth Plus, Snipperclips, Disgaea 5, and some NeoGeo games like Metal Slug 3 and Samurai Showdown IV. There are others like Jackbox Party 3 that you may want to get if you want a good party game.

Minecraft isn't really my thing but that's perpetually in the top 3. Lego City Undercover is also supposed to be quite good.

I also recommend getting a glass screen protector for your Switch, makes it feel more premium like a smartphone. This is the one I have: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3ASPNV/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I use the mumba rugged for my on-the-go usage. Its grip on the back is super comfortable in my hands and it's one of the more rugged cases. Most cases unfortunately you'll have to take off to use the dock but I don't mind doing that if it means I feel safer having my switch out on the go.

This site is a great read for chargers, power banks, cables, and has a few gift/traveling guides that you might find useful.

I love the Pro Controller (you may need two, I have a feeling you and your wife will fight over it.)

I don't know if it's to everyone's liking, but I find Diablo 3 an absolute blast and you can do local co-op docked or undocked with 4 people (each person can use 1 joycon, 2 joycons [one in each hand or both in a holder], or a different controller altogether.)

This is the tempered glass screen protector that is most often recommended on this sub. I like these Joy-Con holders - they make the Joy-Cons feel more like full-sized controllers and you can charge them right in the holder. You might want to get a bag to carry everything around in easily.

u/Gr8NonSequitur · 3 pointsr/gaming

The dock has pads in it, but there's still a little "wiggle room" which I suppose could lead to scratches. I'm guessing it's to allow room for people to add screen protectors since I got one of these:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3ASPNV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and now the "wiggle room" is gone, but it's not like super snug either. IMO this is probably what they had in mind and made the dock gap the thickness they did.

Not sure about covering up what's already there, but to prevent future scratches, I highly recommend this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N3ASPNV/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

A screen protector, preferably tempered glass. Here is a pack I bought from amazon for $9. It comes with two really nice tempered glass screen protectors.

u/jpw547 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I have the amFilm tempered glass screen protector on mine and I really like it. I was hesitant about a screen protector at first because I normally don't put them on my devices, but I can hardly even tell that this one is on my Switch. No issues with glare that I've noticed either, and it's usually <= $10. (And that comes with 2, in case you mess up or wanna give one to a friend)

I don't have a battery pack for it, but I've been looking into them for a buddy of mine who is going on a trip from the US to the UK in a few months. The one I've been really thinking about is the RAVPower 20100 . It's on the more expensive end (~$50) but it is compatible with the Switch and will charge it ~3-4 times and only takes 4-5 hours to recharge the power bank.

As for the case I got one at Toys R Us last summer for about $20 and it has been fine. It's got some padding to protect the screen, and has these little plastic cases that can hold like 3 games and an SD card each I think... It doesn't have a ton of storage space, but it works. It depends on how much you want to put in there, but you definitely want some inside padded layer that lays on top of the screen so that nothing you put in there will put too much pressure on there.

I use this brand... 2 for $9.... I also use this brand on my Iphone and I have spiderwebbed the protector twice on my phone with no damage to the phone

u/e_x_i_t · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch
  1. Not sure about the bending, but scratches can be caused when putting Switch back into the dock, depending on who you ask this is either user error or a "defect" in the dock. I got a small knick on the very edge of the screen border, but I blame myself since I likely mishandled it when putting it back the dock. Your best bet is to get a screen protector, regardless of how careful you may or may not claim to be, this one comes highly recommended and is what I ended up using.

  2. Not much is known about what Nintnedo is planning for their new online network for Switch, but Virtual Console as we know it is will be replaced by....something.

  3. If you're worried about memroy, Best Buy and a few other retailers have a 128gig Class 10 micro SD on sale for $30 on Black Friday. It's probably the best deal as of right now and should hold most people over for a while.

I'm sorry about your screen, Friend. Maybe consider something like this for your next screen: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_tKaXCbYTH8A05

Well, good luck adjusting to Nintendo’s button layout!

If you’re wanting some game recommendations then you can’t go wrong with the popular ones. BotW and Mario Odyssey are fantastic singleplayer games, and Splatoon 2 and Mario Katy 8 are fantastic multiplayer games. The console exclusives are a great place to start

It’s also recommended that you have a screen protector because some users had issues with the dock scratching the screen. amFilm is a commonly recommended brand.

Other than that, the pro controller is great, especially because it’s a more traditional controller like the Xbox controller.

u/MatNomis · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If you're concerned about the screen at all--honestly, even if you're not--you should put a screen protector on it ASAP. This one is well-regarded: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV (amFilm tempered glass)

u/MonolithChaos · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Hey! Your friend is pretty lucky! Here's some of my recommendations:

  1. Only 1 version of the switch. Joy con come in different colors. No difference in performance. Just go for favorite color.

The most common combinations in box are the grey joy con and the neon blue and red joy con boxes.

  2. Typically there aren't any deals for the switch that I'm aware of but I did see another post where Toys R Us was listing 10% off for the switch as part of stores closing

  3. Get a screen protector. There's a cheaply priced one on amazon. I've copied the link Here. I'd also get a case for the switch. There's a list of cases that can be found on the wiki. Lastly, I highly recommend the pro controller. It's definitely not required but it has significantly improved my gaming experience.

u/EmperorSteve7 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I went for an anFilm 2 glass screen protector pack from Amazon. The one I use works great with no bubbles, and my only current worry is getting the screen dirty or fingersmudged. No scratch or visibility problems whatsoever.

You could try the official Nintendo carrying case that comes with a screen protector or if you just want a screen protector I would recommend you this one

u/Eurynom0s · 3 pointsr/LosAngeles

Let me offer up a personal experience here: do not even open the box unless you have a glass screen protector already on hand that you can apply IMMEDIATELY upon opening the box. People recommended this one to me.

The screen is plastic, not glass, and very easy to damage. If you're like me and buy a case but not a screen protector for your smartphone, you'd be very surprised at just how easy the screen is to damage. I got one dead-center in the middle of the screen that was just impossible to ignore after babying the thing (no docking, only playing in my bedroom, etc). I've seen other reports of similar gouges in the screen.

And I had to play hardball with Nintendo on "I'm going to return this to Amazon as defective" to get them to fix the screen for me. First they wanted me to pay $99...then $74...then $49...back and forth with me insisting that I was returning the device as defective until they finally gave me a "one time exception, it can't happen again" free repair.

I'd also put it on an Amex if you have one, since you get three months of purchase protection that includes accidental damage. There's some reports of the main unit being bendable after prolonged usage, so better to save the Amex claim for that should that problem affect you.

On a more positive note...while the price of the Pro controller is stupid, using a Pro controller to play the thing in portable mode is actually a pretty nice way to play. I think this is what I'd advise for a long flight, for instance.

[edit] There was a shortage of glass screen protectors right after launch. Major backorders. If I'd have ordered one, I'd have gotten it around the time I noticed the scratch.

u/Gamecube757 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I recommend buying a tempered glass screen protector such as:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV

u/Skipspace · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

At the bare minimum, this screen protector .

After that it's more just preference. I'd recommend trying out the joycon grip before you immediately get a pro controller, as it's actually a lot more comfortable using the joy cons in the grip than I would have imagined. I haven't felt the need to get a pro controller just yet because of it.

u/Stokes26 · 3 pointsr/Switch

This screen protector is probably the best I've used across any device and definitely the easiest I've ever installed.

If you plan on using it in handheld mode for long periods of time, you're going to want to get these grips + carrying case. Seriously, your hands will thank you. I use my Switch almost exclusively in handheld mode, and have absolutely no hand/finger fatigue during longer gaming sessions.

amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch 2017 (2-Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ic7lzbE7WMQ84

This one. I absolutely love it! One thing to mention though, the protector is a little thick. You'll feel the friction taking it in and out of the dock, but obviously plastic is MUCH softer than glass so it's not gonna scratch it. Really it just makes the switch fit snug. Though reviewers are saying it makes no difference, or they're getting friction as I am, so that probably shows how the docks have been made inconsistently. But like I said, the protector will keep the dock from scratching your screen anyway.

u/Teggert · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The screen is such soft plastic though, even something as dull as car keys will scratch it. Heck, mine had permanent scratches in the corners from the dock within the first week, and I thought I was being super careful as well. I mean it's only 8 bucks never to have to worry about it again.

u/dd_dpa · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

u/jodic100 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I picked this screen protector up on launch day, and its been fantastic since day one. Super cheap, easy to put on, and comes with 2 in the pack. I think alot of people went with this one since it was the first tempered glass one i remembered seeing when the Switch launched.

As for cases, there are a TON of them, i ended up just going with this sleeve just because it was the least bulky and easy to put in a pocket and take with me on my work commute... but again, check out Amazon, there are so many different variations, with different compartments, etc etc

u/queuebitt · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Those kind of products are more about convenience than being the best option.

You definitely want a screen protector. The amFilm 2-pack is considered the best around here.

You also want a carrying case. I recommend either the Hestia Goods or Butterfox models. I have the former and love it. The later is the most recommended around Reddit.

Between the screen protector and case from Amazon you're at the same $20 as the starter kit. So you can either get two high quality items, or more lower (but doable) quality items.

u/IwataFan · 3 pointsr/nintendo

With screen protectors you really want to go with tempered glass. Starter kits are a nice deal, but you do get what you pay for when it comes to screen protectors; such is life.

For a screen protector, I along with the rest of Reddit it seems have settled upon this screen protector as being the absolute best. I even had Best Buy Geek Squad install it to virtually guarantee proper installation, and it looks absolutely fantastic. I had the chance to play for a few weeks without it and personally think it actually makes the screen look better.

For a case I would go the RDS Industries route and get either this or even this larger case that can fit all the related Switch accessories.

u/pokeguy64 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Best screen protector, amFilm on Amazon, great glass screen protector for only 10 bucks and it comes with two.

As for the Pro Controller it's had mixed feelings, personally I love it but some people don't. There is a problem though with the D-Pad currently where it sometimes registers extra input, like left or right when pressing up so I'd suggest to hold over just a bit until a new wave comes out with the fixed issue

u/IrishHog09 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I’ve bought two of these, one for my original Switch, and another for the V2 I just got. I love them.

amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch 2017 (2-Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9imHDb1ZG4P26

u/forestminish · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

It’s really honestly recommended to use one. If your Switch gets scratched or scuffed over the years, you’ll be SO glad it’s on a protector and not the actual screen.

I promise the tempered glass ones are super easy to put on and they are made to not bubble easily. They are only about $8 and it’s a very worthwhile investment. It comes off pretty easily so even if you did mess up, you can take it off without ruining your screen.

You could probably even buy one at Best Buy or another tech store and ask someone there to help you put it on if you didn’t want to do it yourself.

u/Slamdunkin48 · 3 pointsr/Switch

The switch definitely has the possibility for many accessories. I'll link all the stuff I've bought at the end because I would recommend all of them

There is built in storage but not enough. I will recommend any micro SD card that's either 64 or 128 gb depending on how many games you plan on downloading. If you're going mostly mobile eshop games would definitely be more convenient.

As for other items, I love my pro controller but its not a necessity. I also only use it at home so it might not be for you.

You need a case for it, no two ways about it. The good news is that they are pretty cheap. There's cases that just carry the console, that carry the console and some extras, and that carry pretty much everything you could want to carry. Unless you're taking the dock often, I would just suggest a case with some extra storage.

I'd suggest a battery bank. There are a million options out there, and most of it has to do with cost. Just buy a size you like from a trusted brand like anker, ravpower, or aukey.

You also need a screen protector, because the plastic screen is not exactly durable. Anything works, but I would recommend tempered glass.

It is really up to you to make the decision, I, myself, have young nephews, my mom ran a daycare for many years, and I started gaming from an early age. The Switch has parental control features that will help you out. Moderation will be key and tailoring their time towards their behavior is a good way to keep them behaving well. I think they can enjoy it at their age, but sharing and discipline will be key.

I'll go with accessories first, screen protector is no 1 buy for young kids and expensive products.

A travel case and possible grips would also do you well. Other things like the wheel are more game dependent and preference dependent.

As for games, Mario Kart and Mario Odyssey are great choices right out of the gate. Cars 3 driven to win is also a competent racing game. Lego games are also good choices Here is a link to commonsensemedia, take it with a grain of salt and look more at the content than the suggested ages.

The amfilm tempered glass one is most people's go-to, it's the one I used also. Link

Joycons are fine if you have no other option, but the control sticks feel a bit handheld-y for TV play sessions IMO. The pro controller is just super comfy and solid feeling in your hands.

Sometimes I start playing with joycons in the grip just to change things up (and partially because I feel guilty for neglecting them when I went and bought several extra sets of joycons, lol) but I always end up gravitating back to the pro controller before long.

u/i_noah_guy98 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If you're mostly going to be playing at home, I would HIGHLY suggest getting the Pro Controller. I know that is a tough money pill for your wallet to swallow, but it is worth every penny. It is ergonomically better than the Joy Con in the grip, and it will serve you well for long play sessions.

Also, even though you are mostly going to buy games physically, I recommend picking up a microSD card anyway for games that are only on the eShop and DLC. A 32GB or 64GB microSD card will be good for your needs.

As for game recommendations:

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

  • Splatoon 2

  • Steamworld Dig 2 (currently eShop only)

  • Rocket League (currently eShop only)

  • DOOM

  • Skyrim (which releases this Friday)

It's only $11 now apparently, it was $20 when I got it. Highly recommend. I put it in my backpack, and the case makes sure it wont break. Also, the Switch is almost indestructible, someone dropped one from off a building and only one Joycon broke. That's it. They just replaced the Joycon and it was all good.

I had a hori screen protector and it was awful. Like all plastic screen protectors it's hard to keep them from getting bubbles and getting them on straight.

This thing comes with stickers so you can line it up and then let it close on the screen like a book cover. Meaning you get it lined up better and it's nice.
It's also less fingerprint prone and easier to clean and far harder to scratch. You also get 2.

At this point, getting a new dock won't do much of anything for me. The Switch and the Dock are in a box and by this time in 12 hours, they'll be on the way to California.

Toward the end of my post, I indicated that screen protectors are on the way. This is the product. Gamefaqs spoke highly of it.

u/Reality_Gamer · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Yep. Got this one which comes with 2 glass protectors. The first one actually came with a bit of dust on the sticky side which meant I had to throw it away. The second protector worked like a charm. I made sure to apply it on a flat, clean, desk with a lot of light. They included a hard cardboard card which I used to smooth out bubbles from the center of the screen to the edges.

Loving the protection it gives. Touchscreen works perfectly although it leaves noticeable smudges when the Switch is powered off. Not sure if this is true without the screen protector or not. Regardless, it blends right into the console. People don't even realize I put on a screen protector

u/largepanda · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Every tempered glass screen protector for the Switch (perhaps excluding the Zagg InvisibleShield one) is the exact same protector, made by the same factory in China, in the same shape with the same adhesive, and just put in a different shaped box with different branding and applicator tools.

The one I got was the amFilm shaped box. I recommend it since I had a good experience getting a replacement when I managed to accidently crack the first one I got during application, and then fuck up putting on the second one :/.

It only holds the switch, 8 games, and then a small pouch to put the joy con straps in. I literally bought this so I could not worry about it falling off of a table or me dropping it or anything like that. Its great for just carrying it around from room to room. Definitely protect your investment.

I would also get a tempered glass screen protector. The switch can scratch if you are not careful removing it from the dock. The glass I bought literally had one of the best screen protector application directions/processes I have ever had to use.

I just got a switch and love everything I bought. It really depends on what you're going to do with it. If it's for portable gaming, a stand is a must. The HORI stand is only $14 US and allows you to charge while playing.

If you plan on playing with friends, consider another set of joy cons. I also invested in Surge joy con grips so they felt more comfortable in my hand.

If you plan on playing a lot of single player, then pro controller.

I plan on mostly single player and couch co-op games, so here's what I bought:

Screen Protector

Since I'm not going to be doing much portable, I held off on stand and case, but will most likely purchase when I am in need. Maybe the stand sooner than later so my wife can watch her shows and I can play my Zelda :)

Sorry for the late reply.
Anyways congrats man I hope you like it, and yeah warranty is important. As for the screen protector I got an (Amfilm screen protector ) which is really good and not pricey. And good luck with your Switch man.

  1. Most new systems won't be from launch
  2. Only if your dock is warping towards the inside, but I would recommend getting a screen protector just in case
  3. If you're talking about the joy-con grip on the front of the box, then yes
  4. The joy-cons maximum length is around 33 ft, so you're fine.
I hope i answered all your questions! Oh, and here's a good screen protector: amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch 2017 (2-Pack) (https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Screen-Protector-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1521517701&sr=8-2&keywords=amfilm+switch+screen+protector)
u/ProjectXero · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I would go for a tempered glass one. This is the one I have and I can honestly say it's never given me trouble with bubbles or effecting the touch input. Also imo- I think it makes it look more premium with a tempered glass screen protector.

u/I_CANT_AFFORD_SHIT · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Dude amfilm is the one to go for, had it since launch and not a single scratch in on it and this is coming from someone who scratched their new phone screen in a week.

My switch had dropped off the sofa onto wooden floor been on holidays etc etc.

Easy to apply, tip I had was to apply it in a steamy room after a shower, great job.

Here's a link to Amazon uk

Not op but this one has been great for me and went on really well with no bubbles.

u/volcomador64 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Screen protector is a good idea, Switch has a plastic screen which scratches very easily. amFilm seems to be the go to recommedation on this sub. I went with Spigen screen protector, and I would recommend that one from my personal experience (very good!) and it's a little cheaper.

u/Atthevoltain · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Yep! I went with this one:

Nintendo Switch Screen Protector Glass, amFilm Nintendo Switch Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch 2017 (2-Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_WrDxGpGeA6oJ1

Mostly because it came in a two pack. Couldn't be easier to apply, too.

u/Waxifari · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Its a plastic screen. You are wise to put a high quality tempered glass protector. Use the hinge method. I have never done that before but after watching it on YouTube (its dead simple and is exactly what it sounds like) it came out better than any of the myriad protectors I have installed free hand. Be patient with the bubbles. Sometimes take an hour to work them out but a glass screen protector installed via hinge method wont leave you with many bubbles.

https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Screen-Protector-Nintendo/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1492636037&sr=1-3&keywords=switch+screen+protector

u/Mesuxelf · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

How on earth do you put a screen protector on your switch correctly? I've bought this screen protector twice (it comes with two, so I've applied 4 screen protectors in total), and both times, there was dust under the screen after thorough cleaning, and bubbles formed everywhere. How do I put a screen protector on correctly? It's completely necessary to have a screen protector for the switch because the screen scratches so easily, and there's no way to replace it without losing your save data.

u/avisamo · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I bought this for a screen protector. Sizing is perfect. and it comes with two. Can't say if it is easy to apply - I have a local chinese market I got to for phone protectors and I paid them $3 to put it on because I suck at it. she didnt seem to have any problems with it.

Im getting my switch in about a week and a half, so i've started to look for accesories, and I think i need some help :P

Initially ill be getting Mario Kart, so im going to buy the official Joy Con Wheel x2 thing.

I was also going to buy a carrying case, and I saw this one, which looked nice.

The last thing I was going to buy for now was a screen protector, since i've heard they can get scratched easily when placing/removing the console from the dock, so I was thinking of buying this one. I also saw a Hori screen protector, but it has horrible reviews (Mostly complaining about it unsticking at the bottom of the switch because of the heat when being docked).

So, are these good choices or should I buy some other one instead?

Also, ill probably end up buying a controller, however, I find the pro controller to be too expensive, so I was thinking of buying the Hori one which is much more affordable, but is it any good? Are there any other good controllers? And I was looking at Hori stuff, so I stumbled upon the Playstand, and the game case. Are they worth buying?

Sorry if this comment is too big, im very hyped for the Switch, and I dont want to ruin my experience with bad accesories =)

EDIT: I forgot to ask, Is a big SD Card worth it? How much space would you recommend if it is?

u/NEEEEEEEEEEERD · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Take it slow. Make sure the screen is completely clean beforehand. Here's the sub's go-to protector. Don't use the dust stickers because apparently they are extremely fragile and can get glue on the screen.

Other than that, it comes with alchohol wipes and dry wipes to clean your screen before installation, and a screen cleaner just in case. It also has a card to help push out air bubbles. I only got one bubble which was a result of me trying to mess with the corner to reinstall it a bunch of times, and even then it's hardly noticeable. If you take it slow and line it up well, you can install it perfectly. It's also made of tempered glass and doesn't scratch, while letting you use the touch screen.

u/timidandshy · 2 pointsr/Switch

I love my amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector - it was super easy to install, and I'm not worried about putting the Switch in the dock and taking it out anymore.

It's quite cheap, and very highly reviewed on Amazon (4.7 stars with almost 14.000 reviews): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV

u/GettingRidOfAuntEdna · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I have a switch backpack , it’s lovely for travel, can carry up to 8 joy cons (2 attached to the switch and 6 pockets), lots of pockets for everything and room for others. People have mentioned to not carry it in a visibly licensed product in big cities, but you could remove the licensing with a seam ripper and a patient and careful hand. I got a glass screen protector , it comes with 2 and I got this small case to basically protect it around the house. They have larger small cases that carry more than just the switch, there is also a Zelda themed case and as of right now Walmart has it on sale for the physical copy of the game.

u/Twinkiman · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I can't really recommend a case since the case I have is used for carrying the dock and everything so I can't really suggest anything for portability

As of the screen protector, I recommend this one.

https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Screen-Protector-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1549018427&sr=1-2-spons&keywords=switch+screen+protector&psc=1

It is really good quality and it comes with a 2nd one in case you need it replaced. A lot of users on this subreddit swear by it as well.

As of the SD card, the Switch has 32GB of internal memory that you can use. If you plan on buying a lot of games digitally and not physical then I strongly recommend getting one. Mario Kart 8 takes up about 7 GB and Smash Ultimate is around 15 GB. So that memory will fill up fast. If you rather get the physical carts instead then you would be fine without one, even with game updates. I should also note that any updates to the Switch OS is stored on separate memory. So you don't need to worry about console updates filling that data up as well.

u/picano · 2 pointsr/nintendo

A 2nd set of joycon would give you 4 player (4 single joycon: 2 left, 2 right) or a solid 2 player (2 full pairs). There are some games that require a full controller (joycon pair / pro controller), others that only support single Joycon (Super Mario Party) and many others that allow a mix (Super Bomberman R allowing up to 8 players).

Nothing from the Wii/U will work, unless you have a gamecube adapter + gamecube controllers. A gamecube controller via this setup is a mostly full lacking a few gameplay buttons (ZL, L stick, R stick), a few system buttons (Minus, Home, Capture), rumble, and gyro.

Also, get a screen protector.

If you plan to do online play, you'll want a family account even if you're only using 1 console. This way, each of you can have a profile/account for $35 rather than $20 apiece.

u/appleappleappleman · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Tempered Glass protectors are the way to go. I use this one and it's been great.

u/Roderick284 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

u/floating_on_a_cloud · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

> be aware that online communication is mostly done through your smartphone

Oh gotcha did not know that. So do you only hear voice chat through the app and headphones or voice chat and game sound?

> I would recommend readjusting your budget by removing the headphone and speaker budget and going with a nice IPS monitor

Yeah, I will probably do that then.

> Also, maybe consider a screen protector for your Switch?

Yeah, I'll def pick one. The tempered glass one is only $10, so better safe than sorry.

u/Suitchi9 · 2 pointsr/nintendo

Honestly I bought the switch never intending to use it in handheld mode because I have a giant TV, but once i undocked it to play some Mario Kart... I never went back to TV mode.

  • The Screen Protector I use is amFilm Tempered Glass

  • To Clean The Screen I just use a small drop of water on a micro fibre cloth

  • And The Case I Use is WaterField CitySlicker Leather Case Black Which Also cleans my screen aswell cause it has a built in Cloth inside so whenever I take it out I get a fresh new screen :)
u/CripplerJones · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Unfortunately, I can't recommend any Nintendo Switch screen protectors from personal experience (I didn't buy one), but you may be better off skipping a bundle and getting everything separate.

IMO, that's the best way to get a solid carrying case and a tempered glass screen protector, even if it costs a few dollars more.

Edit: As /u/Bread_Truck just pointed out in another comment, the most frequently recommended screen protector on the sub is this one. I'd start by checking that out.

u/EricHD97 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This one on Amazon and comes with two. I bought it with my switch so the screen never got cracked and I'm very happy with it. Despite my best efforts it still had a couple bubbles in it but after a week or two they went away and it looks great now

u/UltimaGabe · 2 pointsr/Switch

I personally have this case and I love it. It has plenty of space to hold games and joy-con straps (not quite enough room for extra controllers, unfortunately) and is sturdy enough and looks good too. The extra bits and bobs are kind of useless, though (I have no use for the controller grips or stick covers and the screen protector is pretty garbage) so I don't necessarily recommend someone buying it if there's a cheaper option available. As for a screen protector, I used this one right here and it's absolutely amazing- no loss in picture quality whatsoever (as opposed to what you get with plastic ones) and super resistant to scratches. And since it comes with two (all for a measly $8 right now) you can use one for yourself and sell or gift the other one to a friend.

u/MandomeLife · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Sure -- I'm using this case by RDS Industries paired with this screen protector. I bring along a USB adapter for charging my Switch when I'm working in my studio.

The case that I use is decent -- hard shell exterior, inner binding straps, and a near-edge fit keep the switch from jostling around. There's an inner mesh-bag for holding extra joycons and protected SD cards. The 2 game card holder cases that it comes with are questionable. They both hold four game cards each, and fit into crevices on one interior side of the Switch case. What doesn't work about them is that they often pop out of the crevices they were designed to fit and they never completely hold on to the game cards placed in them -- when you open the cases, the cards pop out of their place pretty easily. This got annoying to me as I took the Switch out of the case frequently, so I DIY'ed some cheap adhesives to both the outside and inside of the card holder cases, which ended up working very well. All in all, the case does its job -- I'd say that newer cases would probably be better, however, as companies have had the chance to iterate on the models they've developed. It also gets brownie points from saving my switch from a leaky bottle of water that I had in my backpack. Not sure if it's entirely waterproof, though.

Yeah...you probably should. I bought one, but haven't put it on yet. I've had it since launch and I haven't had any scratches on it. But I'm extremely careful when putting it in the dock and I have a case for it. I'd say a case is absolutely mandatory if you're going to be using it on the go.

Here’s my loadout:

First, I like being able to play in tabletop mode as I like having the joycons removed and separated while I play on the go, I carry the straps (though I removed the strap part so it’s just a way to add extra width to the joycons) and this tablet stand because I do like the normal one.

Next up, I use a portable USB-C charger with a PD port on it. I used to use a third party Switch charger since I’m not using it to dock, but I like having the option to charge my phone as well.

Finally, I use a case to carry everything in. The normal slim ones definitely aren’t enough, so I use one like this that fits everything so I can have everything on the go in a compact space.

TLDR: I keep a tablet stand, joycon straps, and a portable charger in a large case for when I’m on the go with my Switch. None of these are must haves, but I enjoy them all.

P.S.
One ESSENTIAL accessory is a screen protector. I got a small scratch on my bezel from my dock and it still bugs me I didn’t get a screen protector immediately. It baffles me that there’d be a design flaw like that, but it happens.

Finally, a lot of people like the Satisfye grips. While I’ve never found them necessary, a lot of people have. It would also be worth getting the bundle with the carrying case since it wouldn’t fit in a normal one.

Hope this helps or gives you some ideas of what you might want.

I've had this tempered glass screen protector for 2 years and haven't had to replace it. Super easy to install, and comes with 2 in case you mess up/one breaks. Also, only $8 (USD)

Oh! The one thing I will say is that you’ll have much better luck wiping the screen with a prepackaged lens wipe like what you get from the eye care section at Walmart or your grocery store than you will using the included wipes. They’re too wet and streaky.

That is probably the best case out for the switch but scrap the screen protectors and get this. The Super Mario Odyssey version of that case is also nice but can only be gotten in the bundle or imported.

u/zmattk · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

First, I agree with everyone else so far. The most important things are screen protector, micro SD card, and a carrying case. Second, what you buy will depend on how you will primarily play. If you are using it as your home console on a TV, you'll need different accessories than if you are going to play while travelling. And if you play while travelling, are you going to play tabletop with joycons detached or in handheld mode? Or you can do all 3 and buy everything :)

For the essentials, here's what I'm using right now

Butterfox Case: link

For your travel case, consider what you want with you. The case I use is great to throw in a backpack and have my Switch with me for quick gaming. If you want to travel with a dock so you can actually play everywhere with friends, you'll want something to accommodate that.

Screen Protector: link

One note on the micro SD card. You'll definitely want one with a good amount of storage if you plan on going digital. If you are mostly physical, you can get away with not having one for a while, but you'll probably need one. When purchasing one, make sure you get one from a reputable source. I just watched a YouTube video yesterday on how easy it is to essentially hack a micro SD card to say it has a lot more storage than it actually has. So anything extremely cheap coming from China might not be what you want.

For other accessories that are alittle more exciting, here's a list of the things I also recommend:

Portable Charger: You'll need one that has enough power to charge the Switch. Here's two that I have found work well. The Anker charger is significantly more expensive than the RAVPower, and neither are really cheap, but you'll get a lot of use out of it, and they can work for other electronic devices as well.

Anker

RAVPower

Portable Stand: The Switch's kickstand is pretty bad for tabletop mode. It's not adjustable and you cannot charge at the same time. Getting a portable stand fixes both of these problems. One like this is my personal favorite portable stand. You get more viewing angles than the plastic folding ones and you can use this with multiple devices as well. However, the Hori one or one similar to that works perfectly fine as well.

Pro Controller or Extra Joy Cons: Depends on your preference. I'd go with the Pro Controller if you're planning on playing mostly single player games. The extra set of Joy Cons are nice for multiplayer though as it allows 2 people to play with full controllers, or 4 people to play with a single joy con (aka Mario Kart).

If you go with the extra Joy Cons, I'd also suggest Joy Con Grips. While they might not look the best, it is a significant upgrade to holding the Joy Cons by themselves. They work perfectly fine for multiplayer Mario Kart.

As for games, with you just getting the Switch, I'd probably just stick with Odyssey and BotW for now. There's more than enough content for probably a couple of months depending on how quick you play through the stories. But if you're looking for multiplayer games, I'd probably start with Mario Kart. It's a classic that almost everyone loves and can play up to 4 players. Splatoon 2 is probably my next favorite to play besides Odyssey and BotW if that's your type of game and you really want something else. But everyone is different so if something stands out to you, then you'll probably know better than me what you'd like!

Just purchased a brand new Switch from Amazon, along with screen protectors and a case. Only game I have ATM is a physical copy of Super Mario Odyssey (48.7$ from Amazon). Got 52$ left on Amazon as gift balance, and wanted to know if there is something else I should purchase from there (accessories or games, doesn't matter). I assume I need to look for physical cartridges locally henceforth. What other stuff should I look out for?

P.S. Not purchasing BOTW. Already finished it. Looking mostly for local MP/coop stuff to play with my younger sis, like MK8, Bomberman etc.

u/theoriginalnpc · 1 pointr/EDC

I purchased these and haven't had to replace one of them since getting my Switch on day one.

u/swissarmychris · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

For accessories, some kind of carrying case is probably a must-have unless you're planning to just use it at home. I don't have any specific recommendations, but there are plenty of them out there and they are all more or less fine. Pay attention to the size -- there are some larger cases that will have room for cables/AC adapter, and smaller ones that just fit the Switch + some games. Which one you go for is up to you.

Other accessories you might want are a screen protector (I'm using this one and it's great) and maybe a Pro Controller if you want a more comfortable docked experience. An SD card isn't necessary unless you plan to download a lot of games instead of buying carts. (Digital-only indie games are generally pretty small.)

The two Joy-con controllers (the things that attach to the sides of the tablet) can be held horizontally and used as independent controllers in a lot of local multiplayer games, so you can do multiplayer out of the box.

The Switch is pretty popular, so MK8DX has plenty of people playing. Zelda is extremely good, and is a perfect jumping-in point for the series. I highly recommend both games.

Some other good games that you might like, depending on your tastes:

  • Splatoon 2: A team-based shooter where you are trying to cover an arena with your team's color of ink. This is primarily online, and doesn't have local multiplayer.
  • Mario + Rabbids: A turn-based strategy game in the vein of XCOM, if you're familiar with that. It's fairly accessible, so if you like turn-based games or strategy games at all, you're probably enjoy this.
  • Snipperclips: A local multiplayer puzzle game where you and your partner cut your paper bodies into different shapes to solve puzzles.

i thought the same thing, but you may want to take a closer look. while i was always very, very careful docking and undocking, my switch still ended up with a small scratch on the darker part that's around the screen. why not protect your $300 device when it's only as little as $8.99 to do so?

Possibly stupid question, but any correlation between screen protectors and the bent Switch phenomenon? I was looking to get the amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector and I wasn't sure if anyone found out what was causing the Switches to bend or if that was just a manufacturing mishap. Thanks!

I purchased the amfilm https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N3ASPNV/ref=oh_aui_i_d_old_o1_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It comes with two glass screen protectors and was very easy to apply with no bubbles

u/swampwaft · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

This screen protector is the best, and installation wasn't too bad..

Although I did watch a YouTube vidya on how to use the "hinge method" of applying, which I guess is the best for most screen protector installations.

I also recommend installing in a steamy bathroom, which will help eliminate dust in the air.

u/TheRealBowser · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I strongly recommend amFilm Tempered Glass. Very high quality, they give you an extra, they come with instructions and they are incredibly cheap on top of everything else.

Edit: Found this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3ASPNV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Seems like a good deal.

u/ghettosorcerer · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

"Best" is subjective, but it HIGHLY recommend tempered glass screen protectors, as opposed to plastic, from my experiences using them on smartphones.

I've had good experiences with this brand.

u/klave7 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

THIS is the closest to launch delivery I've found. At least for the US.

u/cutekick · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Zelda is great. I am still playing through it and I got it on release day.

Pokemon Let's Go is pretty good and might be fun with the kids. Mario Odyssey is a solid 3D Mario game, tons of fun if you are a fan of them. Captain Toad got a switch port and is worth picking up. Then there are just all the indie games which you can get digital. Oceanhorn, if you want a Wind Waker clone, is only $15 I think.

I got this screen protector. Highly recommend. It doesn't even look like it is there.

u/musicboy74 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Cases usually include film screen protectors which are inferior to tempered glass ones. I would recommend cancelling or returning the case you ordered and buying another one plus some tempered glass screen protectors. This is the screen protector I recommend, it is great, no problems.

u/travisd05 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I got this amFilm screen protector and it's great. I followed the directions to put it on in a steamy room and didn't have any bubbles or dust under the cover. I'd highly recommend it.

u/IceSage · 1 pointr/MarioMaker

Mine was not either. I'm not sure if there were extras but regardless I probably tossed the box after applying it and it's not like there's a logo on it. I'll try to see if I can find exactly what brand, however it was suggested

Nevermind, I ordered mine off Amazon and found the history. I bought my own after a GameStop employee suggested I buy one of theirs but I refused to pay 20 bucks for a transparent piece of plastic.

Hello, I literally just got my Switch yesterday! I'm assuming your son is ~10 years old. Hopefully this can help;

  1. "Updates" only took 1 minute for me. I'm unsure if the console was already up-to-date to a certain point, but updating was practically instant. Same with my Super Mario Odyssey update, took an extra 1 minute. So 2 minutes total doing updates and then I was playing a game.
  2. I highly recommend one. I got the tempered glass amFilm one from Amazon. Really nice screen protector and you get two for ~$10, this one specifically: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3ASPNV/
  3. I personally recommend a rubber TPU case for the switch/joycons, this is the one I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0716KM5BB/

I recommend the rubber case because it'll protect the device itself from small drops and scuffs that can occur if the user of the device isn't careful. I'm in my early 20's and I'm extremely careful with my phones(haven't dropped any phones for about 3-4 years now).

I bought this rubber case for my Switch just in case someone else is using it and drops it. The console and joycons all have their own rubber piece, but the joycons can still snap onto the Switch, however the Switch cannot dock into the TV Dock enclosure with the rubber case on. So if your son wants to play on the TV constantly then this case isn't worth the hassle in my opinion.

u/PieBandito · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

There are updates for both the switch and some games that you need to do before being able to play them. So if you're getting games I would put them in and launch them so it can download any updates.

I would get a tempered glass screen protector it just adds more peace of mind. I used this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3ASPNV/ It's only $9 right now and it comes with 2.

I have this case, this tempered glass and this cover for handheld mode.

I would recommend a portable battery like this one if you plan on using the Switch on-the-go a lot.

u/246011111 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

If you're worried about the dock scratching the screen, you could pick up a tempered glass screen protector. Bonus: also improves the look and feel of the Switch's plastic screen! I would not recommend DIY solutions like the "dock socks".

For the Joycon straps, don't use the button on the back of the Joycon to attach/unattach them. They have their own mechanism, the little white peg on the bottom. When you attach it they should go on from the top down - check the + or - inset on the strap if you want to be sure, the symbol facing you should match the button on the controller. (I don't find the straps that useful, unless you're going to have an extended Mario Kart session with split Joycons or something.)

Some additional tips:

  • You can switch to a dark theme in the settings.
  • Controllers occasionally get updates as well, but the system won't prompt you for them. Usually there'll be a post here, though.
  • Some physical games require a digital download - they'll usually say so on the box.
  • A Pro Controller is absolutely worth it imo, especially for games like Splatoon 2 and Enter the Gungeon that rely heavily on the triggers. If you get one and notice your D-pad misfiring, there's a simple and effective DIY fix.
  • If you do get Splatoon, consider an ethernet adapter to help with wifi connectivity problems.

I bought the glass protector. I have had a foil previously. The one I'm using is https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Protector-amFilm-Tempered/dp/B01N3ASPNV .

The glass, even though it's thicker than foil, does not collide with dock at all. This means that dock has quite some space between screen and the plastic. To be honest, I think that people who got their screens scratched just blame it on the dock or are careless as hell, I see no way to scratch your screen.

Yes, the dock feels cheap and is just some bigger connector, but that's it.

u/betacux · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Would definitely recommend a pro controller, so much more comfortable than joy-con. I got joy-con comfort silicone grip things that go on the joy-con, but even then my hands absolutely kill me from playing Switch. If you just want to play as soon as you can, I guess get silicone comfort grips for your joy-con, and a comfort grip controller. Also definitely get a glass screen protector, and this case.. For games, I'd recommend BotW, Splatoon 2, and Odyssey (I assume by the time you have enough saved up odyssey will be out, it comes out in a month)

u/haelous · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

On the front? It's $9 for screen protectors dude. I'm sure there's cheaper ones, but I've been using amfilm for years.

I would suggest the following screen protector, it has been pretty solid for me, I have screwed up a couple times applying a second one though, so you may want to grab 2 sets just in case, make sure you apply it in a fairly dust free environment...

For the case, if you can, I would suggest getting the Zelda Special Edition, it comes with a pretty solid case along with music CD and such, Good build quality

Anyone have any issues removing the amFilm tempered glass screen protector? [The one I have] (https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Screen-Protector-Nintendo/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1501772713&sr=1-3&keywords=switch+screen+protector) is way too glossy and I want to swap it for [the matte one] (https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Anti-Glare-Screen-Protector-Nintendo/dp/B06X3WTK4X). I feel like these will come off pretty easily but just wanted to hear from others.

Also, after having your Switch for a while now, are you finding you didn't really even need a screen protector in the first place? Kinda feel like this might be the case.

u/Greenmario16 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

One of us... One of us...

Seriously though, congrats and welcome. Glad to hear you are enjoying it so far.

Besides all the game recommendations above, you might want to start thinking about some accessories as well.
First and foremost, grab a screen protector for that bad boy. The Switch's screen is made of plastic, so while you don't have to worry about it shattering, its a good idea to keep scratches from ruining your experience. I personally have been rocking an amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector since launch, and have never looked back. Good price, great quality, and comes with a spare should anything happen (like an incompetent owner failing at installation.......like me).

Next, decide on if you want to buy any games from the eShop. If so, try and get a hold of a decent capacity SD card. The storage space included with the Switch is....practically nonexistant, TBH. Its going to be a little pricey, but being able to play dozens of Nintendo and Nindie games wherever you go without having to carry/swap cartridges is a damn good feeling.

That also leads in to my final point: physical storage. Truthfully, your Switch is quickly going to gather a load of very small items that you are not going to want to lose. Also, as a semi-handheld, your new console is going to be put into far riskier situations that most homebound systems. For both these reasons, it would be wise to invest in some kind of carrying case to house all the various knickknacks when you inevitably begin traveling. There are virtually dozens, if not hundreds, of options available, so take your time and find one that works best for you.

Ugh, apologies for the wall of text.
TLDR: Think about getting a screen protector, SD card, and carrying case. They will serve you well. :P

5th game should be rocket league. You already know you love it. Xenoblade is a big game like Zelda and, for me, I can’t have two games like that to play. I’ve heard a lot of mediocre things about Pokken.

As for the screen protector, get the amFilm screen protector. I’ve been using it for over a year and have had no issues. It’s by far the most popular for a good reason.

Enjoy the Switch!

I paid for 2 day shipping and got it 2 days after release. I'd suggest this one for a screen protector, you want a tempered glass one rather than a plastic one. And as for accessories, I'm looking at getting this for a nice grip/charger.

Switch online is not necessary to go to the eshop and buy games, but some games may require it to play them so be careful of that. For accessories definitely get a screen protector for it cause the dock is able to scratch the screen. Ans on a side note joy cons will be on sale for 60 bucks everywhere for black Friday I think.

Looks like a plastic protector. I'd vouch for a glass protector such as this one.

Avoiding dust is hard. Almost impossible. Some people prefer to turn their showers on hot and let their bathrooms steam up. This steam brings the dust to the floor which allows for a dust free install. Some people also suggest placing the switch in a Hefty garbage bad with a phone light and doing the install in there. Really just make down you wipe down the screen and wipe away any visible dust particles. I got a couple dust hairs under mine but decided it wasn't that big of a deal.

u/Veetea · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

From my experience, here's the priority order:

First Priority: A tempered glass screen protector and a large microSD card. The former alleviates a big hardware issue while actually improving the aesthetics and usability of the hardware, though the latter is only an immediate priority if you plan on making lots of digital purchases. I recommend the amFilm tempered glass screen protector (which I love, even as a long-time hater of screen protectors) and the Samsung Evo microSDXC series of cards, for their reliability and data transfer speeds.

Second Priority: A carrying case and a Pro Controller. Obviously, the carrying case is essential to taking advantage of the Switch's portability -- you can find far cheaper options, but this one, in waxed canvas, is my favorite. Throw in a Pro Controller to really make it feel like a home console (and because Switch already includes two controllers, buying one extra brings you player count up to three).

Third Priority: Extra Joy-Con. One extra pair is a quick way to immediately bring you up to accommodating four players, and if you buy different colors than the ones that came with your Switch, you get different aesthetic combos. Which is neat.

I was able to very recently pick up a 512GB Micro SD Card for $89, which was a worthwhile investment for me because my digital library has expanded greatly since I got my switch at launch (I’m at about 90 games now, with I think 16 physical)

However, I also see that this 400GB Micro SD Card is on sale for $56.99 right now. If you don’t think the extra $32 is worth the extra 112GB (I don’t blame you) then that’s an absolute steal. Prices on Micro SD cards have dropped by an average of over 30% in the last month by my estimate.

I will say you probably don’t want to get a “phone case” type case for your switch due to the fact that you need to dock it. Invest in a good Tempered Glass Screen Protector , and get a good Carrying Case . I use and highly recommend the ones linked. The carrying case is a perfect fit for the switch without holding the joycons too tightly; it straps the switch in with velcro. The 12 game cart capacity and the elastic cart holders is also the best solution I’ve seen in any case. I am able to put joycon straps and headphones in the little pocket without worrying about anything hitting the switch, since the game cart flap is soft on the back and acts as a barrier between the two. The tempered glass screen protector has lasted me two years without a scratch.

EDIT: as a further note, the theoretical limit to the switch’s SD capacity is 4TB but micro SD cards only go up to 1TB at the time of writing, and those cost $449

u/thecoachfridge · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Get a screen protector for sure, I got this one. Then look into a case for gaming on the go. Butterfox makes an awesome carrying case and it holds 19 games.

For a first timer I would recommend to go physical. It means that you can trade things in if/when they get old to you and you will be downloading E-shop games for sure anyways.

As for games all I can say is do some research. We can all say to go get all of our favorites but you know your own taste best. I would watch some youtube videos to figure out which games are to your liking. That being said you need Zelda, Mario Odyssey, Hollow Knight, and Smash(coming soon).

u/Thopterthallid · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Hardware:

A Switch is a Switch. The only difference would be what games might come bundled with it.

Extra controllers might help. The console will come with two Joycon controllers. Joycons are sort of "half" controllers. For most multiplayer games, using a single joycon is fine, albiet a bit uncomfortable for big hands. The "main" use of joycons is to link them together into one controller. Some games REQUIRE this setup. Naturally, you can play in "handheld" mode where you connect a joycon to each half of the Switch and use the screen itself to play on.

A second pair of joycons, or a pro-controller wouldn't hurt.

Beyond that, consider getting a sturdy carrying case if you plan on letting him take it with him on outings (It is a hybrid home/portable console after all) as well as some tempered glass screen protectors. The Switch is durable, but why take chances on something that expensive?

Software

Super Mario Odyssey

  • The Switch game. An adventure 3D platformer that's going to set a standard for years to come.
  • An absolute 100% must buy. Basically mandatory for Switch owners.
  • A ton of different worlds, and almost every other character in the game can be "captured" and played as.
  • Has some of the cleanest controls and platforming.
  • Very non-punishing. There's no game overs or lives to worry about. No time limits. Dying always has you reappear very close by with little penalty.
  • One of Nintendo's most polished games, and jam packed full of content.
  • Do not skip this.

    Breath of the Wild

  • The first open world game that's more about exploration than pointless tasks.
  • Takes a close second for mandatory games.
  • Massive open world that's gorgeously atmospheric.
  • Far from being complicated, but kids under 7 might not understand what needs to be done in order to progress the game.
  • The perfect game if kiddo just loves ignoring objectives and exploring. I sure did when I was young.
  • A more serious toned game with more violence than the others. No blood though, and monsters shrivel up and poof away when they die. Link's horses can be killed either by monsters or falling off ledges, going limp and lifeless. Might be a bit heavy for youngest kids.
  • If your kid is up to the challenge, another absolute must buy.

    Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

  • THE party racing game.
  • An absolute blast, and great for multiplayer.
  • Has auto-steering and auto-accelerate options for the youngest gamers.
  • 48 different racetracks and more characters and karts than he'll ever use.
  • Mario Kart is part of the quintessential Nintendo experience, but things will get heated.

    Kirby Star Allies

  • A co-operative adventure game for 1-4 players.
  • Great for young kids, it's very easy and approachable.
  • Tons of characters, easy controls, and can be played with up to four players working together.
  • Kirby gets computer controlled allies that will almost play the game for him. It's VERY easy, but not a bad game by any means.
  • A great first game for a kid.

    Super Smash Bros Ultimate

  • A massively ambitious crossover party/fighting game.
  • The must own Switch game of the season.
  • A bit more violent and serious toned. Characters are going to use swords, guns, and explosives on one another. I don't know how young your child is or what sort of content you don't mind them seeing. There won't be blood or death, but it's a fighting game. The whole point is to beat one another up and knock opponents off the platform.
  • Some of the characters are... A little lewd. Just something to keep in mind when deciding whats appropriate for your kid.
  • There's a good chunk of singleplayer content, but it's intended for multiplayer.

    Super Mario Party

  • A board game interlaced with minigames.
  • Lots of variety and characters
  • Not bad alone, but best played with friends and family.

    Pokemon Lets Go

  • A turn based RPG
  • An HD Remake of Pokemon Yellow from way back in the day.

    Minecraft Switch Edition

  • One of the most popular games among kids this last generation.
  • Encourages self appointed goal setting, creative building, and resource management.
  • Imagine being able to shrink down and live in the lego houses you build and defend them from skeletons and zombies. Every kids dream.

    My Hero One's Justice

  • I don't know a lot about this game, but it's a 1-on-1 fighting game based on the Anime Boku no Hero Academia. He might enjoy it more if he's familiar with the show.

    Fortnite

  • I have to mention this one, as he's GOING to ask about it someday.
  • Fortnite is a free to play battle royale game that's incredibly popular among kids right now. Every playground is full of kids doing dances from the game and talking about the game, and every kid's youtube channel is talking about tips and tricks and showing off promoted outfits and emotes that can be bought in the game. Hundreds of millions of dollars are being thrown around because of this game, and a lot of youtubers make a killing off of getting kids hooked on tips and tricks videos and such. Can't stress enough that youtube isn't safe for kids to browse alone.
  • It's online-only, meaning he's going to be interacting with other players online. If he plugs a microphone into the switch's headphone jack, he'll be able to talk to strangers in game.
  • Don't dismiss it entirely, but it's definitely something you should look into before letting him go at it, and probably supervise closely. Letting him go into the world of Fortnite is going to expose him to things beyond your control.

I looked online and saw prices ranging from $300-500. Is there any difference between these consoles other than the skin?

The $300 base model of the Nintendo Switch (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01LTHP2ZK/) does not include any games, but is still what you should most likely buy. More expensive models may have games bundled or free in-game currency (e.g. Fortnite), but they shouldn't be more than $350 (plus tax). At $360, you're not really saving any money, and anything more expensive than THAT is from a third party trying to make a quick buck. The console itself currently has few variations; most of your customization will depend on what color controllers you get with the console.

What type of accessories am I going to need?

This depends on your use case. I'd recommend getting a screen protector (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/). If you expect to bring the Switch out of the house a lot, also get a case (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01MR63I6F/). Anything else, like special controllers (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0748S3GXG/) or a dock cover (https://www.etsy.com/listing/560319070/), is largely unnecessary right now; look into them when you find you need extra joy-cons (https://smile.amazon.comdp/B078GZM4H8/) or a tabletop stand (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N9RTMWS/) for your Switch. In the end, you should not be spending more than $400 for the Switch, one game, and core accessories.

As for games, so far I planned on buying Smash Bros, Let's Go Pikachu, and One's Justice. Can you recommend any other games? I was never into Zelda but hear the new game is very good.

How old is your kid? Super Mario Odyssey (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01MY7GHKJ/) is fun, and has a great co-op mode if you want to play together. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is also always a blast (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N1037CV/). I'm also a huge fan of Splatoon 2 (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N9QVIRV/), but it's probably better for older kids because it requires more dexterity. There's lots of games to recommend, but it'll help to know what your kid already likes... or what you want your kid to like ;)

Side note: To play online, you need Nintendo Switch Online (https://www.nintendo.com/switch/online-service/). It's $20 a year for one ACCOUNT, or $35 a year for 8 accounts. Each account also has separate save files, if multiple people will be playing on the same Switch. Smash Ultimate and Mario Kart both have online modes, but Splatoon's primary game modes are online-only.

Whats the difference between mario party and mario space odyssey?

Super Mario Odyssey is an action-platformer for the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Party is a virtual board game for the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Galaxy is an action-platformer for the Wii, a completely different console.

I currently own this one amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch 2017 (2-Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_gFy7Bb3QB3MES
Does me REALLY good!!!

u/OG_Jeroy · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I want to buy screen protection for my switch and i found this one (https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Screen-Protector-Nintendo/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1498491116&sr=1-3&keywords=switch+screen+protector) on amazon but is it really good or are ther better screen protectors.
Besides id like to buy a case, any suggestions?

u/jfriend33 · 1 pointr/Switch

Yes

This is what I got: homase Nintendo Switch Hard Back Case Cover Anti-Scratch Transparent Crystal Protector Shock https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071VHQ9KW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_RvEszbVT1GN2T

No issues, easy to remove for docking. Got this too: amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch 2017 (2-Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_3wEszbDD7RE2K

PowerA Switch Everywhere Messenger Bag https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N22YAIP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_CxEszbS7T1JSP

First screen protector that installed with ease, better than icarez. Do it in a humid bathroom. And messenger bag I didn't want but knew I'd be frequently taking my system solo and sometimes the dock to relatives so it was a good price, $30 like new. It was sealed!

Anyway if you frequently go from docked to not, it all depends on your controller arrangement. If you can leave the stock joycons on its not time consuming to take off the tablet clear protector. But daily removal and installation of controllers for a grip would get annoying?

I'm hunting for either a pro controller from colorware or a rubber cover not black for neon joycons on stock comfort grip. Good luck!

Similarly to u/ss4444gogeta, I was never a fan of the plastic ones in the past, and don't bother with my cellphone or tablet or anything. That being said, the amFilm Switch screen protector -- which is the one I use and seems to be the most popular and commonly recommended -- is pretty great. I can't tell that it's on, there's still full sensitivity on the touch screen, and at $8 for 2, I guess I took the "Why not do it, considering the cost of the Switch and how easy it is to prevent possible screen damage?" approach.

u/__radical · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Personally, I think that having a Switch with very young children could very be risky, but, that's your decision. Definitely buy a screen protector, and maybe you will want to consider modifying the dock additionally. Doesn't have to be anything huge. I don't have a protector, but what I did was used double sided tape and taped a piece of a paper towel on the part of the dock that scratches the Switch. If you want a screen protector, apparently this one is good: https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Screen-Protector-Nintendo/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ It's on sale too. Best games for 5-6 year old would probably be LEGO city undercover, Mario Kart, and Cars

u/DallasDanielle · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Get a nice tempered glass screen protector as soon as possible. The amFilm one is one of the most popular and I've really liked mine.

u/ShaneHaleyPhoto · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Along with what Joshua said, I'm a huge fan of Death Squared and Human Fall Flat. I play with friends and we have a blast, we love the humor of the games and are always laughing at what everyone's doing in the games. Puyo Puyo Tetris is a great single or multiplayer puzzle game. Astro Bears Party is a quick, fun multiplayer game, I picked mine up on sale for under a dollar. All offline.

Crash Bandicoot is a difficult 2.5D platformer, if you haven't played and are into that. I like it, some levels do get a bit frustrating. Snake Pass is one of my favorite games, you control a snake and it very much relies on weird controls and puzzles you have to figure out, based on the weird controls. If you like Portal, you'll love Chromagun. It's like Portal but with colors. Celeste is a death-happy, 2D platformer with the difficulty set on hard. If you want a challenge, Celeste is your game. All offline, all single player.

Online - I just started playing Fortnite and Rocket League, both seem pretty fun so far. Fortnite is a free download, too!

I travel a lot and LOVE this case. It's super small, it has 8 game pouches(and you can probably double up games in each pouch
too), hardshell, water resistant, looks nice and sleek, and I feel safe with it. I'm also just not an accessory person though -- I have just my switch, 3 physical games, thumb grips(like these)(totally unnecessary, just a personal preference), a screen protector(I've heard putting the switch in/out of the dock can scratch the screen), and that case. The case also came with an accessories pouch, but I've never used it.

Well, first things first: congrats on getting your Switch! Also, thanks for doing this giveaway, it's pretty cool from you.

Best advice I can give you: don't trust the guys that say that cartridges taste like candy... for some odd reason when the Switch first launched there was a trend of tasting the cartridges... apparently they taste awful. Apart from that, go in blind in the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the game is about exploration and exploring it it's actually the best thing to do in the world. I'd love to be able to replay the game as if it was the first time.

In case you don't like Zelda, or even if you do and really like metroidvanias as well, go for Hollow Knight, the game is dirt cheap at $15 and it's an amazing game. Same as with Zelda, go in blind, I've been doing that and it's an amazing experience.

As for party games, you obviously have Mario Party, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been the most succesful game for my friends and also for my wife's friends, there's just something to it.

The Switch's Eshop can be a bit chaotic to say the least, the indies are overflowing and it gets hard to find stuff that came out a while back, so try to wishlist everything you're mildly interested in, that way you can actually remember it exists. Trust me on that one. Also, for some odd reason thigns you buy don't dissapear from the wishlist, so do some clean up now and then.

As for protection: get a tempered glass for the screen, I've got this one AM Tempered glass on launch and the first one still looks like I've just applied it, so it's a great value.

Needless to say, get an SD card, a big one. It'll save you the trouble of swapping cartridges or even sd cards if you go for a smaller one.

Finally, enjoy the Switch to your heart's content, it's a great system and it has some amazing games. A not so hidden but sometimes hard to actually convince yourself to buy gem is Mario + Rabbids. I got it on an Ubisoft sale and can't believe what a great game it is.

As for offers, I do have like a bazzillion platinum points (well, maybe only 1000ish) on My Nintendo, in case you like any of the rewards just let me know.

For my Switch, I use the AmFilm brand screen protector. It made vastly improved slides for me. The biggest fix, especially when getting into special difficulty, was putting some non-slip pads underneath my Switch.

Im personally gonna wait for that official case cos it just looks good.

If you have the budget, buy a tempered glass screen protector..

LOL. All I said was I like having a screen protector. You do realize there are tons of companies that make them? But hey, you do you. I for one will be for sure putting a tempered glass screen protector on my switch. If you were going to use one though, this is the one I got.

No, it was the same sensitivity for me, no problems here.

u/Zyphelis · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I honestly do not know since I do not have one. I'm pretty sure Nintendo sells a plastic film-type protector. Judging by the review ratings, I'd prefer not to get it. I think you should get the amFilm Tempered glass protector. It doesn't peel like the others. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_AlqizbF2MJAPN

It is a must because you may take your switch with you and the chances of breaking it by dropping it is up there. It also helps prevent that dock screen scratch issue.

u/jinreeko · 1 pointr/nintendo

THIS WAS MY FIRST BUT I WATCHED A ONE MINUTE INSTALL GUIDE FOR AMFILM SWITCH INSTALLATION AND TOOK A CHANCE. NO AIR BUBBLES, NOTHING, AND NOW NO ANXIETY OF TAKING SWITCH ON THE BUS

u/Otnev · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I have installed this protector ( https://www.amazon.de/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ ) almost a year ago. It looked perfectly. No bubbles, no dust, no fingerprints. Except that after some days I noticed small cracks right at the edge which did not bother me.
Now after 10 months and 90% docked play I held it against the light after cleaning it and there were these small dots or bubbles only on the lower part of my screen. What is that? Is it glue? I thought they do not use glue on this kind of protector. Or is the screen melting or bubbling under the glass because of the heat in the dock? I hope its only on the protector and not the plastic of the screen.
I dont see the bubbles in mobile play, but I am concerned it may damage my screen. Am I safe if i leave it on for some more time or should I remove it asap?
What do you think?

u/Dimentive · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Wipe it with a dry microfiber cloth.

To clean it a little better, use a damp microfiber cloth.

To get it as clean as possible without damaging the screen, just use a microfiber cloth with some cleaning solution (such as this overpriced solution which I use). You could also make your own by creating a 50/50 blend of water and isopropyl alcohol, soak the microfiber cloth in the blend, and then wipe the screen with it.

You should also get a tempered glass screen protector (this is the best one—it comes with two protectors) if you don't have one already.

I got these on amazon, they (it comes with 2) get incredible reviews and theyre the nicest screen protectors ive ever bought. I definitely recommend

u/InfinitySnatch · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Is THIS the case you're talking about? Because this is the best.

Also as mentioned here earlier get the amFilm tempered glass protectors. They're inexpensive and work great.

EDIT: Looked it up and apparently the case you're talking about is not the one I'm talking about. Don't get it, it looks like shit. You can get a much better case and screen protector if you go with the ones I linked and for the same price. The case is by RDS Industries but is still an offical Nintendo approved product and has the Switch seal/logo and everything.

u/YoItsMikeJo · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

This on Amazon. Steam up your bathroom first by leaving your shower on for a couple minutes and follow the instructions. Just take your time and it'll come out great!

u/Spectre_II · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Any screen protector should do, but tempered glass like these tend to be the favorite on this sub.

The problem was largely overplayed during launch. Most people would say they haven't really had a problem. I think those that had had manufacturing defects in the dock.

u/siegewolf · 1 pointr/Games

Please get one of the nice screen protectors. The switch is pretty easy to scratch. This is the one I got

Edit: Really insured why I got downvoted. The switch is easy to scratch.

My friend has had his switch essentially since launch, and his screen is fine w/o a screen protector. Keep in mind, he does use his switch mostly docked.

But I'd recommend this screen protector if you can get one. Just make sure to follow the instructions carefully to prevent any air bubbles. If you're anything like me, they'd drive you crazy.

u/__BIOHAZARD___ · 0 pointsr/GameDeals

Besides, this is a normal price for switch screen protectors.

If you're looking for a good one for the switch, I highly recommend this screen protector from amFilm.

AmFilm Screen Protector Is really the only must have I say that because everything else is based on your needs. If you plan on taking it everywhere then i'd recommend this carrying case if you plan on playing on the go then a portable charger would be a good choice, I'd recommend something with QC (Quick Charge) via USB-C with at least 20,000MAH.

As for splatoon or arms, they are two completely different styles of games. I'd opt for Splatoon just because I don't see myself enjoying arms.

u/NonNomen · 0 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

How the hell do I apply a screen protector on my switch if there's no god damn adhesive side? How the hell does it stick? I ordered this screen protector for my switch and upon trying to apply it, failed miserably and I literally have no idea what I am doing on how to apply it. It has no adhesive side, so how the hell does it even stick? I have watched videos on how to apply it but they all have adhesive sides. Why does mine have no adhesive? How the fuck does this work?

Sorry for rambling, just a bit frustrated.

u/andysaurus_rex · 0 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Not really. They all are pretty much the same. Probably come from the same factory.

I don't think so. More expensive ones may offer a replacement policy if it breaks? Idk. Might be worth checking. But the cheaper ones are cheap enough that if they break, buying them again is very easy to do.

I've only tried one brand and have no complains. Comes with 2: amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch 2017 (2-Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_x9ZZzlxwvRh8O

My #1 tip for a new Switch owner would be to invest in a screen protector and a good carrying case. They don't have to be expensive to be good, and there are a bunch of different options so you can choose the style, color, etc. that fits with how you'll use your Switch. Here are the links to the screen protector and case I use—I would highly recommend both:

My #2 tip for you specifically would be to always keep your eyes open for games you can play with your girlfriend. My wife and I have played and enjoyed all the following games on Switch (and there are many more):

  • Snipperclips
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Death Squared
  • Overcooked (and Overcooked 2)
  • The Adventure Pals
  • Picross S

Welcome to the Switch family, and enjoy!
