Yes they do, both of them. I happen to have many. Even my $250 LED monitor just this morning had so much glare, I couldn't see anything and had to turn it away to see better. I only linked the monitor to show you it is in fact LED and not just a generic, cheap monitor.
If you can add some money, buy this monitor instead which has FreeSync and is 144Hz.
Otherwise, if you can't spend 50$ more, check out this and this.
Don't buy a non-freesync monitor.
As for the 480, no it won't overheat, the node202 has a big grill right where the fan is, so it can take as much air as it wants. MOreover, since it's a blower style card, the volume of the case doesn't affect the cooling (cold air is taken by the fan and hot air is spit right out of the case through the rear. Hot air doesn't remain in the case)

The Acer XF240H is a newer panel and the only complaint I've seen about that is that its out of the box colors are worse than the VG248QE's. It's flicker free at all brightness settings where the VG248QE uses PWM at <100 brightness. And let me tell you that you will not use it at 100 brightness.

This is just about one of the cheapest 144hz monitors you can get, and it has freesync. Still a good pickup if you don't have an AMD card.

Probably between the AOC G2460PF and Acer XF240H. The AOC looks like it has average color for a TN, not sure about the Acer. They have most of the same features from the look of it: adjustable stand, flicker-free, free sync, speakers, vesa mount...The Acer XF240H is still on sale at costco for $170.AOC G2460PF is $199 at Amazon.Edit: One sale is over and the other looks to be out of stock... So the Acer GN246HL seems to be the only option atm. I'd suggest you guys wait for the price to drop on something else, check pcpartpicker and /r/buildapcsales.

There are a few options though it depends what route you wish to take. It's hard to know how much ghosting a 1080p IPS panel will have due to the lack of detailed reviews of them.
If I had to pick a 27" IPS I would grab something like the ASUS MX279H which is slightly over budget. Not sure if it's the best one though as I don't often look at the 1080/60/IPS monitors.
If you want to rid yourself as much ghosting as possible then 144Hz would be fantastic. Less motion blur compared to 60Hz, less input lag, buttery smooth and since it's TN its a little faster.
For $200 you can get a good 144Hz monitor, the AOC G2460PF which also includes Freesync.
In the end it depends if you prefer 144Hz or the benefits of an IPS panel more.

I might suggest the AOC G2460PF (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BV1XBEI/) then. I don't have any personal experience with it but I think it fits your needs. Like the suggested monitor, it's 1080p 144Hz (great for FPSs) but it also includes AMDs FreeSync which will give you smoother gameplay since you have an AMD GPU.
To help out /u/prim0_RL, I have both a Ryzen 5 1600 and a GTX 1060 3GB. I can get 250 at 1080p if I turn down some settings and a stable 144 at max is 1000000% percent achievable. I love my 144hz monitor and for the price, I love my AOC G2460PF

So I had a pretty killer weekend.
The tablet I thought was totally toasted decided to work perfectly the second I'd given up on it.
Both discovered and binged the entirety of Gravity Falls, loved every second. One of the best shows I've seen period, immediately bought the physical copy of Journal 3. (so cheap too!)
My favorite episode is without a doubt S2 E8, Blendin's Game. [That episode](/s "I'm a sucker for time travel, and the butt-ton of sci-fi references, as well as the voice work of Justin Roiland, and that Soos backstory was an unexpected gutpunch, I cried like a child.")
Gotta give props to "Not What He Seems" as probably the most brilliant episode from a critical standpoint, thankfully I hadn't gotten spoiled on the big reveals and totally fell for the red herrings sprinkled through the first three quarters of the show.
The refund for my Monitor got credited, so I re-bought it and hopefully it comes this week so I can finally build my PC.

I personally would go for either the AOC 2460PF or the Acer XFA240
I have the predecessor to the Acer XFA240 (Mine is the XF240H) and it hasn't let me down yet after a year's worth of hard work. It did take a lot of color adjusting out-of-the-box to make it look passable, but such is the downfall of TN panels.
Also, check out ProductChart.com if your budget is wider than $200. You can filter monitors based on size, resolution, refresh rate, included features, and so on. It's nice, and it helped me ultimately decide on the Acer monitor I mentioned.

If you aren't going to be stressing these gpu's why are you looking at this price point? You could easily get under $200 by going with a slightly older card.

I think the best choice for you would be a 24" 1080p 144hz monitor. With your build, you'll be able to play new games on maximum graphics settings for years to come at this resolution, and you'lll be able to take full advantage of the refresh rate. You should be getting well over 100FPS in games like Borderlands. Furthermore, a top of the line monitor with these specifications shouldn't break your budget. I'm not sure if prices are higher in the UK, but you can get a top of the line one in the U.S. for around $200, which is roughly £150.
Keep in mind that many 144hz monitors are set to 60hz as the factory default, so you may need to open the menu with the physical buttons on the monitor and switch the refresh rate to 144hz. You'll also likely need to enable this in your display settings on your PC. It's a simple process you'll be able to figure out with a quick google search.
Of course, there are a lot of subjective factors to choosing a monitor that have to do with personal preference as well. I'd suggest asking your boyfriend what size his monitor is if you don't know already. You may decide you want something larger if that's what you're already accustomed to.

I'm new to building but this monitor that I chose is the AOC G2460PF that says 144hz Dvi dual link and dp only. Does this mean I need the dual link active adapter as well? This is the Monitor.

If you're on a budget, this 24" AOC free sync monitor is great bang for the buck. The colors need calibration out of the box but once it's up and running it's really nice. High refresh rate + adaptive sync is hard to live without once you've experienced it. Even vsync'd 60hz doesn't really compare.

Do you really need a sound card? Your motherboard will likely have a pretty good one in there already. That $250 is very expensive, either save the money or use it for a better GPU.
That monitor is a good one, however since you're using an AMD card, I recommend this one instead. It costs about the same, and has freesync, along with the 1080p and 144hz.
That motherboard is a bit pricy for the sort of build you're doing. You could shave off ~$50 from your overall price there.
I'd recommend shaving some price off those peripherals and using the money to get a solid-state drive along with your HDD.

This is around the same price as a 1070. Enough games hit quite a bit over 60fps and the monitor will be much longer relevant compared to a gpu, 1070 for 1080p 60 is really overkill, and to future proof id say no. Because 1 the price to performance is way worse compared to 480 and nvidia does not really age that well anyway. You should just buy the most reasonable gpu for you and upgrade whenever needed. You could obviously buy the 1070 with the monitor that would be really nice.

For starters your config is best suited for 1440p60Hz.
Unless you're looking at overclockable korean A- monitors which I don't recommend then 1440p is off the table at $250.

At 1080p for the best experience I recommend forgoing the 1070 in favor of a RX 480 as the former is a little overkill at 1080p.
144Hz is very CPU demanding so I highly recommend going for a Core i7-6700k right now or Zen if you can wait a month / month and a half or so.
Having an i7/Zen with a RX 480 means that 1080p 144Hz with FreeSync is the way to go.
I recommend the AOC G2060PF 1080p 144Hz TN w/FreeSync at $200.

If you go for a z170 motherboard I would add the 20 Euro or so to go for a 6600k so you are able to overclock it down the road. That can significantly increase the lifetime of your PC. I would go for a Freesync monitor and some AMD card possibly a RX 480 when it releases later this month. Keep an eye out for reviews of that card. Freesync because adaptive sync is awesome and Freesync is significantly cheaper than Gsync. I have the AOC G2460PF. It works well and is a bit cheaper. Don't know on whether or not it's worth the upgrade for you, but it never hurts to future proof yourself.

Yes it makes so much different even just browsing and watching videos on youtube. It is a hell lot smoother. Though if you are getting 1060 you will not be able to achieve 144fps with ultra/high settings on some games.

Believe me, you haven't enjoyed gaming if you haven't at least tried 144hz. The difference is night and day compared to resolution. I build PC's for customers and so I get to try everything out, and its better to get higher hz. This is a fairly good one and a nice price I found.

I don't think you need to upgrade anything. You have quite a good system. I would upgrade to 8 gigs of ram and a ssd if you don't have one. I think it is worth to get a freesync monitor. I found one on amazon that looks to be pretty good.

If you're going to get a FreeSync monitor I'd suggest getting one with a higher refresh rate than 75hz.

I guess the Asus you're looking at isn't bad, but you could probably find a good 144hz monitor without Freesync for that price.
It's an expensive option. Active adapters cost about $100 on Amazon.com. The reviews aren't exactly very positive, either. Amazon's search engine doesn't differentiate between single link and dual link adapters, so you need to beware when you look for one, as you need the active dual-link adapter to support 144Hz.

You don't need G-sync. It just depends on what you want and what you can stomach. No G-Sync will result in occasional screen tearing and stuttering. Then if you use V-Sync, this will help prevent screen tearing for FPS higher than 144, but adds latency (which is somewhat noticeable) and can lead to stuttering. G-sync eliminates screen tearing and stuttering and keeps everything smooth. If you want a similar experience for less money, you could opt for an AMD GPU like the 570 and get a FreeSync monitor which doesn't add the premium of $50-$100 that G-sync does. I'm wondering what the difference is if any between all these. One thing I do know is reviews for the latter two monitors say they include a Displayport cable (necessary for Freesync) while the Costco one doesn't say anything about that.
The AOC G2460PF is worth a look.
Acer XF240H if 200 is the limit. This monitor doesn't have many thorough reviews, but the image quality will most likely similar to others in this price range. Tolerable.
Another option is the AOC G2460PF if it comes back in stock. Again, probably the same subpar image quality as the previous one.
By far the best in this range would be the $260 Viewsonic XG2401 which, for a TN panel, probably has the best image quality/colors in this class.

I don't have this monitor, but I personally like Asus monitors because they usually can get pretty tall so I don't need a monitor stand. I have the PB277Q and it looks nice, performs well and I have not had any issues with it in the year I have had it.
This depends, the 24" with have a higher PPI by about 10 (not that big of a deal really) and the 27" will be larger. Personaly I would get the 27" if they are the same price like they are on Amazon.

Yeah, 144 fps is a pretty high threshold, even for a dedicated gaming system. There isn't much you can do about that without spending quite a chunk of change. Alternatively, you can pick up a relatively inexpensive Freesync monitor like this. Its refresh rate will sync up with your frame rate for a smoother experience, and Nvidia's cards are now compatible despite Freesync originally being an AMD-promoted tech. But I think in the long run, your best bet is to upgrade the CPU, then the GPU, then get a monitor with a lower refresh rate.

The 1060 max-q isn't powerful enough for gaming at 1440p on any new or demanding game, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you plan on upgrading in the future or plan on building a desktop at some point that is more powerful. Also if you primarily game I would recommend 144hz over 1440p. I would stick with either 1080p 60 hz or 1080p 144hz, but the 1060 probably won't be able to fully use that 144hz on most games. I have the msi gs65, which has 1060 max-q as well, and it has a 1080p 144hz panel in it, and I get 100 fps and above on less demanding games, but any AAA or graphically intensive game struggles to get above 60. My final thoughts before recommendations would be an ips or va panel over a tn, because the response time downgrade is (imo) worth it for the amazing color reproduction. Also at 144hz i find that g-sync and freesync are not that useful and find the additional price not worth it. If you are only gaming and doing competitive games then TN is fine though. Anyway, here are my recommendations

What games do you enjoy playing?If you play a lot of competitive games and first person shooters then 144hz should be better for you.If you enjoy visuals more(GTAV,Witcher 3 and such) then 1440p should serve you a bit better.

There are freesync 144hz monitors for $200-$250 in the US, probably a bit more in CAN ($300?). There are a few without freesync, but they aren't much less. Freesync adjusts the refresh rate of the monitor to match the framerate of the game for a smoother experience.

I have this one, it gets the job done. Maybe my eyes are old and slow, but it wasn't a huge difference like most people exclaim it to be. Motion is definitely smoother, but wasn't a major world blowing experience for me at least. If you do get one be sure to setup the refresh rate on the monitor as in windows it tends to default to 60.

These 2 are the cheapest ones you can get.
First of all: don't be too afraid. I'm not sure where you live, but here in the Netherlands, anything I purchase online can be returned no questions asked within 2 weeks (assuming you don't completely destroy it). So you should be safe from any out-of-the-box defects.
Viewing angels are usually only an issue when the monitor isn't right in front of you, if it is, you shouldn't have any issues with TN. a 1060 will get killer framerate is league, so 144Hz would be worth it, in my opinion. If you have a bad back, it would be wise to invest in a properly adjustable monitor or a VESA monitor arm you can adjust it with. It's tight with your budget, but you can always prop it up with books or a monitor stand until it's at the correct height (top bezel at eye level).
League pros play anything their sponsors put in front of them, to be honest. The difference between gold and plat is usually game knowledge, warding and patience.

I got this monitor and at 24" I don't notice any pixels or anything. Then again, I'm not sure 24" is very large compared to other monitors.
At the $200 range, the AOC G2460PF is probably your best bet for a 144Hz Freesync monitor.
As for Nvidia, Gsync carries such a premium that its almost better to just put the added $200+ towards a stronger GPU in the first place so that you don't need it.

I think this is a great build. If you want to spend a little more money, I would say upgrade the power supply to an EVGA G2 550W. It is pretty much the gold standard for power supplies, and with a staggering 10 year warranty, you'll have it through many upgrades and potentially another build. Other than that, I might upgrade to a better SSD but the one you picked is probably fine.

It's a 1080p 144hz freesync monitor. While you might not be able to push 144 FPS at high settings in every single game you play, you can definitely get it in league, and even if you are below 144 FPS in more demanding games you'll have the freesync.
If you want to spend less then go for a 1080p 60hz monitor. I'm sure you can get one for $100 or less. But I really think you'll like the 144hz; it helps give you that competitive advantage. Even just typing on it and moving your mouse around is really pleasing.
Case is always a hard one for me to recommend to people because so much of it relies on personal preference once you get the specs out of the way.
Do you want a giant tower or something more compact?
Do you want RGB LEDs you can see through a window or something more geared towards silence?
Do you need room for 3-4 more hdds or are the two you're purchasing now enough?
What's the budget? (for the case specifically)
P.S.: I noticed that your monitor choice doesn't support freesync. I would HIGHLY recommend you consider one of these options instead seeings as you are going to be spending that much already. Here's a good 144hz monitor for pretty cheap. It's the one I use and while the colors aren't amazing, the viewing angles are great for a TN panel. It's also relatively inexpensive for a 144hz monitor with Freesync. I've had it for about a year and never had any issues at all.

The human eye is actually pretty danged good at detecting this kind of thing. 144 fps will look clearly different from 60 fps. In fact, 144 is the standard for competitive CSGO (they used this one at ESL Barcelona).
Hokay, now let's talk about screen size and resolution. The main issue with a 27" 1080p monitor is that pixel density is pretty low. Not a problem if you sit far back from your monitor. Or maybe not a problem at all - some people aren't bothered in the last, but others can't stand it. It's a personal choice, but I guess refresh rate kind of is too.
As for a cheaper, similar monitor, consider the MG278Q at a little under $400. I think the only difference is that it's TN, while the 279 is IPS. IPS panels tend to have higher input lag, but better viewing angles and color accuracy. TN is generally considered better for gaming anyway.
I also couldn't help but notice in your other thread that you wanted to get a GTX 970. However, you won't be able to use this monitor's FreeSync feature, which Nvidia refuses to use (Nvidia's equivalent is G-Sync, and monitors that support that start $100 more expensive).
If you didn't know, what these technologies do is even up refresh rates based on your FPS. A regular 60Hz monitor will refresh every 1/60th of a second no matter what. So if you're running 60 FPS, it lines up perfectly - each frame is shown once. At 30 FPS, every frame will last two refreshes. But if you're running, say, 40 FPS, frame timings become inconsistent: 2 of the same frame in a row, then maybe 1, then another 1, then 2, etc. - this is why a solid 30 fps can look better than 40.
So basically, with FreeSync, if you run 40 FPS, the monitor will simply refresh 40 times per second. Consistent timings no matter your FPS.
It's far from a necessity, though; even if you get this and the GTX 970, you'd still be getting a 1440p144 monitor.

This is the monitor im using
Freesync and gsync make it a bit easier on the monitor if you're using the correct hardware (freesync for amd, gsync for nvidia.) It lowers the response time and often increases the refreshrate in a way thats more inexpensive than buying a high refreshrate monitor compatible for both sides.
Not necessary but will probably be easier to find a good value 144hz monitor if it's freesync.

Two options from ViewSonic 24" for $160 and 27" for $220. Both are 1080p so be aware that the larger screen isn't higher resolution. This doesn't make a huge difference in gaming, IMO, but windows and text in a browser might seem larger than typical if used to a 24" 1080p monitor.
Both support FreeSync and go up to 75Hz. Obviously not as high as 120 or 144, but its still a noticeably and welcome improvement to 60Hz.

IMO that's the best option you have for great 1080p gaming, and you can later upgrade and buy another 480 which would be impossible with 1060.

You have a lot of space for peripherals with the 1k budget and the PC of your choice.
You said you still need a monitor and, kb&m, i'd recommend getting a budget 1080p 144hz monitor (id recommend this one if you dont mind the red strip on the bottom bezel here)
For kb&m it depends on if you want a mechanical keyboard or not. There are some combos out there, one that i'd recommend is this one, but a quick search on amazon and you can see lots of different mice and keyboards.
Alright, So thats $200 in peripherals right there, which brings your total up to about $840, that gives you another $200. You should get a 1Tb hard drive for the space, those run for about $50.
That leaves you with $150 to upgrade your GPU, i switched it to a rtx 2060, which will push out more fps than the 1660.

I just did the 2 sticks of RAM to skip the "wait to upgrade". You have dual channel mobo then if you have 4 slots I think. You could very well get 2 4GB sticks and be fine with that. As long as you get the other 8 GB ASAP. There is a very noticeable difference having less RAM, especially if youre gaming CPU intensive games. And dude... I do play alot of competitive games and have two 21.5" IPS monitors at the moment but the response times are pretty bad so for gaming I think I've landed on This One
I also have an AMD card (RX 380) so I could use the FreeSync and 144hz when I play on PC.
I can't recommend the Asus because I've never used them, the only 144hz monitor I have used is this one. So far they have been great, so if you are ok with a TN panel, then for the price it is pretty good. Bonus points if you have an AMD card.

I connected the display port cable from my r9 390 to the monitor. Do I need to use additional display cables or is just the display port cable enough?
I would get the view sonic XG2401. It has good colors and it also has freesync. To answer your questions, if you can get over 144 fps in your games it would be good to get a 144hz monitor. Freesync is generally cheaper as it is widely released while G sync is barely on monitors.

I have a very similar build (gtx1060, ryzen 5, 16gb 2400 ram) and I found a monitor on Amazon that I LOVE. It’s made by AOC, 24inch, 1080p, 144hz/1ms. Included a DisplayPort and a HDMI cables. It’s pretty bright but I really enjoy the colors and I think it looks great. I think it was just under $200. Oh and the screen rotates to vertical or horizontal, goes up and down like 8inches(more or less), tilts a decent amount, and the base rotates to make turning the monitor super easy. I absolutely love it. I’ll comment the model number once I get back to it but yeah. Only possible con that I found is that it’s black and red, but it’s very subtle.

I have the same monitor and anyone who also has it will tell you it's too damn bright! I have to have the blue light filter on 24/7 and still have to take frequent breaks to stop my eyes from melting into the back of my skull. It doesn't support FreeSync which I'd assume is your reason for choosing the RX 580 over the GTX 1060 6GB.
I did a quick Amazon search for 24" FreeSync 144Hz Full HD monitors and I like the curved look of this one at $234 (I'm from the UK I'm sure someone from the US will know where to find something cheaper) or you can obviously save the additional $32.71 and opt for this one.
P.S. I'm positive someone will find you a better overall build at a similar/cheaper price, don't think I've ever seen someone comment and say "Nope, nailed it". Only thing I will say is that I'm 99% sure you'll be recommended 16GB RAM or at least 8GB of 3,000MHz+, more than likely funded by replacing the H100i with an air cooler. I hear Noctua are leading the market these days. :)

I currently have an RX480 8GB, will be building a new pc in the coming months and probably will be upgrading that to a GTX 1080/1180(or whatever the next gen is called).

Looking for a good 144hz monitor. Did research and asked friends. Deciding between these two:
I currently have the AOC G2460PF, which is $195 on Amazon. The BenQ monitor doesn't include Freesync, but I'm going to go ahead and assume you don't have an AMD graphics card, so that won't really matter for you. That ViewSonic monitor is the 2017 model, but the 2018 model is $250, and so is the BenQ monitor.
The Acer XFA240 is $15 more than the AOC monitor and has the same style stand.
The Acer GN246HL is the same price as the AOC monitor, but only has tilt capabilities due to a different style stand.
I've had my AOC monitor for a year and a half now, and I haven't had any significant issues with it, and it performs well for a cheap monitor. Also, in my opinion, it looks much better than the 2nd Acer monitor.
The only downside of the AOC monitor is that it's color accuracy is pretty poor, but I don't think any of the 144Hz monitors near $200 will have good colors. If that's important to you, then you might want to dish out a bit more for a better panel.

In this build I stuck to the "practical" side of computer building over niche parts. i don't know how you feel about that but because you'd need a small loan of a million dollars to actually make something that has the best quality all around.
The i5-6600k is literally enough. If people tell you that "oh why didn't you buy an i7 you totally need it for gaming", ask them for proof in benchmarks of REAL games. 9 times out of 10 they're probably going to give you some cherry picked benchmark from some game and you can just laugh at them for it.
Water cooling doesn't help you in temperatures unless you're running X99 level CPU's with crazy voltages. The NH-D14 might not look like the best thing in the world, but it has it where it counts. You can EASILY get up to 4.5~ Ghz with this air cooler under 65C assuming you got a decent i5-6600k from the famous Silicon Lottery.
This isn't the absolute cheapest SLI compatible Z170 board but atleast it looks cool. The black/white color scheme will work perfectly with the case! It has all the bells and whistles you'd expect from a Z170 board like M.2 ports for PCIE SSDs, SATA Express, USB 3.0, USB Type C and HDMI/DVI out.
16GB of ram on two sticks is enough. 2400Mhz ram costs just as much as 2133mhz ram so just go for it. Any brand will do. You might want to look around if you want to color match the build.
I kept with the program and used a 480GB SSD and a 1TB hard drive. Not the most glamorous brands by any stretch of the imagination but they will work just as well. Just like any other component the SSD/Hard drive can fail and that's just how life is. It doesn't matter if it's Samsung or Kingston or A-DATA or etc.. I've had my fair share of failed drives and the one company I will never by "consumer grade" products from is Seagate. Their hard drives have substantially higher failure rates after one year of use compared to any other competing company.
I kept the GTX 1080 because it fits with the budget and shouldn't really change. Brand doesn't matter as long as you aren't buying a founders edition or blower style cooler. You'll never reach the high overclocks like that.
I had to drop the case to a less expensive but still fabulous NZXT S340 case. The case doesn't impact performance really it's just there for aesthetics. If you really want the Phantom 530 then feel free to go for it. I'm not going to tell you its bad because it's your prerogative. I personally always go the extra mile for a case that I really want.(Well all my cases were made by NZXT, S340 White -> H440 Black/Orange -> Noctis 450 Black).
I tossed in a 750W Semi-Modular power supply from EVGA to make sure you have the room for upgrades in the future comfortably. You can run dual GTX 1080's just fine with this power supply. I don't go after fully modular cases unless I'm going for sleeved cables because Semi-Modular power supplies always have the "required" cables attached. I.E 20+ 4 Pin Motherboard/ 4+4 Pin CPU connector/ 2X 6+ 2 pin PCI-E connectors.
I went with a more expensive G-Sync enabled 180HZ Asus PG248Q monitor. Quality/features come at a price and this is as good as it gets for your budget if you want a 144Hz monitor. G-Sync will help your GTX 1080 in those times you can't quite reach those higher FPS in very VERY VERY demanding games. I just tossed this in because I feel that this monitor is probably something you'll be happy with. It definitely has that "gamery" vibe and the "this would cost you an arm and a leg" type of peripheral. If you didn't need the 180hz/G-Sync and you're completely fine with a 144Hz enabled monitor then the AOC G2460PF is the next best thing. It has VERY good reviews and a lot of people prefer this monitor over other ones in the same price range.
* I kept the rest of the peripherals to respect your decisions in the peripheral department. The one thing I will say though is that the G502 is a freaking dust magnet. I've owned one myself and it's great but the pads underneath the mouse have a problem of getting clogged with dust in time and just freaking terrible execution from Logitech. I switched to a Razer Deathadder Chroma and it's working dandy for me on my Steelseries QCK mousepad.

What you've got to realise is the RX 480 is meant for 1080p60fps ultra, we haven't even seen AMD's RX 490/490X yet and those cards will be aimed at competing with the GTX1070, so ideal for 1080p 144hz.
So anyway, asking the RX 480 to do 144hz isn't the best idea UNLESS the games you play aren't very demanding. HotS for example isn't, neither is CS:GO, LoL, Dota and other competitive games. So if you want 144hz in those types of games then that's easy enough as they're made to run on older hardware well so more people can play them, so throwing a brand new powerful GPU at them will get you well into the 100 fps area easy enough.
So it's literally down to this.
If you are going to mainly be playing less demanding games, you can get a XFX GTR RX 480 8GB for $230, which is the best model RX 480 you can buy for $60 cheaper than usual, then get this AOC Freesync 1080p 144hz for $210 to go with it.
But if you want to play demanding games, Witcher 3, GTA V etc., then go for a GTX 1060 6GB because it's faster than the RX 480 at 1080p and will provide a better experience.

It can also give you headaches and eyestrain, because it's backlight flickers.

I wouldn't bother. Not only with the quality control issues (known to fail easy and have to constantly battle with returns and customer service which isn't fun, especially with a large and expensive item), its only 1080p at 27" and TN so actual picture quality won't be great.
Something like the AOC G2460PF will be a lot cheaper and seems a better monitor. Good reviews and seems reliable and is 24" so 1080p will be fine. Unfortunately it seems you have to pay quite a bit more for IPS.

I slightly altered his build, I felt I made it slightly more entry-friendly. I'll go through it one by one.
CPU - 6600k vs 6500. The main difference is the clocks. The 6500 is 300mhz slower than the 6600k. The other difference is that the 6600k is overclockable unlike the 6500. Overclocking is reasonably simple, but it's not for everybody. There is a risk (not very high, but it's there) to damage your CPU. I set you with a non-overclockable CPU first so that you can get the hang of building a computer first.
CPU Cooler - The overclockable CPUs from Intel don't come with a cooler, so for his build he needed to get a cooler. The non-OCable come with the regular stock cooler, which is (arguably) easier to install.
Motherboard (MOBO) - I kept the same motherboard, so that if you feel the need to upgrade your CPU to an overclockable model, you can just sell the 6500 and buy the 6600k/6700k + cooler.
RAM - I just got cheaper RAM, there's not going to be a huge impact on performance.
Storage - Our builds both have a 1TB hard drive, but I added in an SSD (solid state drive) to put your operating system and programs on. The main advantage of SSDs are speed, when used as the main system drive, it makes the system much more responsive. The main disadvantage of SSDs (as a rule of thumb) is that they do not handle writes very well. This means you'll mostly want to refrain from moving files back and forth. They aren't super fragile, but always exercise the "better-safe-than-sorry" principle (it'll save your ass more than a few times).
Video Card/GPU - I added a filter (I'm not very good at them :P) on this one. My main goal was to let you pick the performance that you'd want/need. The sweet spot for GPUs is the $150-$300 usually, but since AMD doesn't have a performance competitor for NV (Nvidia) past the 1060/$250, the 1070 is the next step up at about ~$400 (just over budget, but if you get some of these parts during sales you'll be able to fit it in your ~$1000 budget) I kept the VRAM (Video-RAM) capacity locked at 6GB/8GB, as I think Star Citizen would like to use all it can get :) Plus it'll increase the longevity of your card if you decide to keep it for a while.
* Add-On Here's some game benchmarks for the 480 4GB/8GB vs 1060 3GB/6GB. The 3gb 1060 is close enough to the 470 that you can consider them equal. Unlike the 480, the lower VRAM or capacity 1060 actually has a lower amount of cores, resulting in lower performance. There also is a factor I find a lot of people forget in the AMD vs NV debate; if you're planning on buying or upgrading to an adaptive-sync monitor, those that support AMD's version (Freesync) are on average, cheaper than their same specced NV (G-Sync) counterparts. Case - I personally prefer the P400 over the S340 as it's the case I'm using at the moment, but both are wonderful cases and I'd suggest you look around to find the right case for you, they're highly subjective :)

Power Supply (PSU) I just got a higher wattage PSU from the same line, they're good power supplies and should last you for a good few builds. More wattage was mainly for the "better-safe-than-sorry" principle.
Operating System (OS) Just added Win10 into the cost. If you're a dual-credit/college student, you're probably able to sign up for Microsoft Imagine/Dreamspark which gives you a few free Windows products, including Win10.

For 1070s it's mostly preference but there are some with good cooling. The gigabyte xtreme gaming 1070 will perform slightly better than the G1 but not by much. The triple fan configuration keeps these cards super cool though. One thing you need to listen for is coil whine on any 1070 you get. Once you install do some stress testing and listen for it. If you find that your card has it then immediately return for the same card as there is no real fix, it's a crapshoot if your card will have it and that goes for every graphics card made nowadays. The Predator monitor comes with gsync is why it's expensive but is buttery smooth when gaming, so it's worth the cost for me, it's not that tall when pushed all the way down, it's very adjustable. Or you could look for cheaper monitors, just look for 24" 1080p 144hz. For example: this ASUS or

Its better to be future proof than not imo. Also 1080p 144hz monitor would be the cheapest. This one to be exact or this one for a more budget friendly price.
Building my first pc tonight! I bought this monitor even though I'm not going to use an AMD graphics card. I'm debating looking for another one since I won't even be able to benefit from the freesync capabilities. Does anyone have any suggestions for a similar monitor spec/price wise?

The one with FreeSync costs (on sale now) 250 euros, the Gsync version 423 euros. Identical monitors, 173 euros difference for the gsync version. So NO, I'd rather play with Nvidia FastSync and not gsync. Not willing to be fooled.
You should consider getting a Freesync monitor. Freesync works on Radeon cards, and while it doesn't work as well as g-sync, the monitors that support it are much cheaper than g-sync monitors.
G-sync works at any framerate, and can work with a game running in a window. With freesync, the game has to be full screen, and the benefits only kick in when the framerate is in a certain range.

Even if it's just casual play, you'd be doing yourself a favor by going for the 144hz TN panel. I know people complain about the colors looking washed up but I have the linked one below and I played around with the settings and never looked back. I have the same monitor, for the price it is pretty good and reccomend it. However if you have an amd card I would look into getting a freesync monitor(G-Sync for nvidia cards cost a bit more unfortunately).
For sure! As I said, I ran the Ryzen 1600 + RX 580 setup previously and every game I played I always put on ultra high settings with no stuttering or frame rate drops. I play a lot of League of Legends and even though it gets me over 350fps. I capped it to 144fps just for consistency purposes and it will usually hover around the 140-144fps range during a big late game team fight.
I also forgot to answer your last question about the monitor, my best advice would be to not get a 1440p monitor. Instead get a 1080p 144hz monitor with Freesync (supported with Radeon GPUs). I'm not sure if you have experienced the difference between 60hz and 144hz but I made the switch a couple months back and the difference in visual smoothness is MIND BLOWING especially for fast reaction games like CS:GO. The Freesync is just a cherry on top for even more visual heaven.
I highly recommend the AOC G2460PF it is the monitor I bought with my setup and it is quite hard to find any monitors with these specs for under $200 anywhere else. Here's a quick link to where I purchased it.

Your build is relevant (not sure about the CPU but if what it's says in the specs is true than sure). Buy a smaller ssd (put your operating system on it) and pair it with a 1tb hd. Your CPU comes with a stock cooler but if you want to over clock than keep with what you got. Buy a cheaper monitor like this. You probably don't need the thermal compound because cpus come with it pre applied. Finally Ethernet is always better than wifi.

I'm not super familiar with monitors currently, but I know this AOC model has always been a solid entry-level option if you can spend an extra £25 and don't mind the bezels. FreeSync is great.
Otherwise I can't seem to see any around £125 on Amazon at least.

A 480 can't hit 144hz on a lot of modern games on high settings but it is definitely possible on some. If games you play are not very graphically intensive or you're satisfied with cranking down settings a bit (Which is fine because frame rate > quality imo) then that type of monitor is fine.
Since you have an AMD card, take advantage of freesync. It's basically free on monitors unlike G-sync (God damn it Nvidia) and will make games where you can't hit 144hz exactly alright.
Check out this monitor out. It has everything you're looking for and is well within your budget (assuming you're in US).
To my knowledge, there are no 1080p IPS monitors that are 60hz+. You'd have to go 1440p IPS to get 144hz.

Been playing on 144hz both in 1080P and 1440p for the last 3 years on my R9 390. Sometimes I drop to 100 FPS on 1440P but I don't notice it since its SOOOOO SMOOTH! if I game on 1080P it's a constant 144fps but 1440P pushes my R9 390 to it's limit but I get an average 120 FPS on more demanding games. As long as you can get an average frame rate between 90-120 FPS it is still miles ahead of 60FPS. I can never go back to 60 FPS lol.

Even if you don't have an AMD card I HIGHLY reccomend that monitor for its price cannot be beat since you aren't paying for Nvidia's Gsync and you can always upgrade to an AMD card later with Vega just around the corner.

So for anyone wondering, I bought the AOC G2460PF. I got it due to it having speakers built in, a USB hub, and a headphone jack on it. It also uses DP which I found nice since some of the other monitors I looked at didn't even have DP and justr used dual link DVI, and seeing as how I have a reference RX 480 there is no DVI, just 3 HDMI and 1 DP. Just an fyi, no monitor has 1ms input lag. You're talking about response time, which is not input lag. If you want to read about it, here you go. But to just quote the article:
"Response time is how quickly an image can be displayed, input lag is how long it takes the monitor to react to an action you performed. If you have a one-millisecond response time, it's no guarantee of a great gaming experience if the input lag is too high."
But let's take a look at a practical example. I currently use the AOC G2460PF 144hz monitor which has a 1ms response time. But according to measurements, it has 3.44ms of input lag according to this review. I'll quote it:

Will I benefit from a 144hz monitor with Freesync?
I can get 80-110fps with my rig, but it kind of fluctuates in game. So I was wondering if I would benefit from a 144hz monitor with freesync. Since I can't hit 144 fps, theoretically freesync should give me a smoother experience at lower frame rates right? The only issue I've heard is that enabling freesync in Overwatch causes input lag for some people. Can anyone weigh in on this?
(I play mostly just overwatch, so if the benefit of freesync isn't that great I might just get a higher quality 144hz monitor. It is pretty much the best 1080p gaming monitor for that price (viewsonic xg2401 apparently a bit better but costs more).
An RX 560 with FreeSync will feel faster than a 1050ti without GSync. The smoothness can be quite enchanting.
The thing to look for, though, is the minimum FreeSync rate on the monitor. It needs to be around 30Hz. 45Hz is cutting it too close as you have to maintain between 45Hz and 75Hz to not experience tearing.
I don't see where you posted which monitor it was, but if it's this one it only has a range from 47Hz to 75Hz. That's REALLY narrow.
You'd be better served putting more money into the monitor than the video card - you will likely keep the monitor longer, anyway.
This is my monitor. $205 right now, 30Hz-146Hz (using the driver) and good color (once it breaks in - something most people don't even know monitors need to do).

Don't get the 1050ti, it's not great value. Visit that subreddit and grab an RX 470 or RX 480 for $90-140.
I'd bump it up to 2400mhz ram since Kaby Lake supports it but you're fine with 8gb. Can always upgrade in future anyways.
Also if you want to add some aesthetic the Corsair Carbide Series 88R is pretty decent.
That monitor's fine but I'd personally grab a freesync 144hz monitor to go with your RX 470/RX 480.

The thing is that the 1050ti would save money but RX 570 or 470 will have freesync and 4gb vram.

Personally, that looks good. I'd recommend having a 144hz Monitor with Freesync to get the best looking gameplay possible.

Well anyway, if you don't want GSync, I would recommend this one. It pretty cheep and has everything you need. I have it personally and it works great.
If I get a 1060 6gb, with this monitor will it be held back by not having g-sync in the monitor or should i wait until i can get my hands on a rx 580 when they are in stock for better results ?

It does improve performance of my gaming a little bit, but if you have no past history of it then there is no point in getting one. If you're that interested and in the US get a cheap budget 144hz monitor

Heard good things about https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BV1XBEI, very budget but I think this ticks most boxes.
I used pcpartpicker.com to filter the specs I needed, and unfortunately most of the 144hz monitors I found were unfortunately out of stock (or would take long to deliver). Here's what I found:
This Asus is 75hz but cheaper than most.
This Acer sounds perfect but is unfortunately out of stock.
And as stated previously, this AOC would also be great, but is out of stock temporarily as well.
I guess the Asus one sounds better than just a 60hz, but i'll have to look up some reviews. What do you think, if I may ask?
EDIT: I keep seeing people saying that 144hz doesn't work with HDMI, and using HDMI seems like you'll get a max of 75~hz? I'd also like to add that I definitely understand the future proofing, but as of right now the only games I go over even 70-80 fps in are games like csgo (which I don't play so often anymore), and star wars BF/battlefield. On top of that, I'm ignorant to the glory that is anything above 60hz, so it wouldn't be a huge detriment to me. I'll definitely be on the look out for these monitors, but I just can't seem to find any at a good price for my budget, or that are in stock. Thank you though!
How many monitors have you tested? For me, I bought my 1080p IPS 5 years ago (AOC I2369VM), so to have this shiny new toy is very exciting. In almost every aspect, the Samsung walks away with it: 60 vs 144Hz, colours are way better on the Samsung (that was a big surprise for me), lower response time, better contrast ratio, better adjustability (height, tilt etc.). And for the money I paid it was a great buy.
The only other monitor I've properly tested in that time was this AOC 144Hz, and wow it was bad. Colours were absolutely horrible, which next to my IPS just wasn't a comparison. It felt cheaper than the Samsung too, despite costing more. I'd only ever heard about the horrors of TN before, but this monitor made me swear off of buying a TN panel forever. It was shockingly bad.
I have no other points of comparison, so I'd be really interested to hear what you have to say about the Samsung as it seems you're regularly testing monitors (even if not professionally). It's slim pickings for good monitor reviews, so there's definitely a place for your opinion to get some traction. For the record, I haven't got any of the issues you listed there either. I think it's just a case that those with a problem are louder about it online.
For gaming, any TN 144hz panel like this or this will be great. If you're looking for something with a little more color accuracy, you're gonna want to get a VA 1080p 144hz monitor or potentially a standard 75hz VA or 75hz IPS

CPU: If you aren't overclocking, the x variants will have a little more of a boost overall. Get the 2600 instead if you want to OC. It's worth noting that Zen 2 CPUs come out soon, it might be worth waiting for reviews/benchmarks.
