The place to start for written materials is the peachpit book written under Apple's label.

(And fwiw, some people prefer written materials for processing and learning._

Oh my goodness, I spend so much time in the Window menu, I could have sworn I tried that multiple times. Thank you.

And I completely agree about learning the software you use and I did buy and read through a Final Cut Pro book last year. I guess my issue is that I'm a front and back-end web developer/database administrator/web designer/videographer. And my typical 60-hour workweek gives me about three hours to work with FCPX. But I'm ok with that. Right now I'm still fathoming how I missed the obvious answer hiding the event viewer.
