What about this?

u/The--Technician · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Since weight is not a major concern to you, definitely I recommend you get the ASUS ROG G751JT-WH71(WX) which would be a fantastic choice. What makes this laptop stands out among/ from the others in this price range is the fact that it has the GTX 970 Graphics card which is significantly better than the 960 the other laptops in this price range have. Don't miss the chance to get the much more powerful graphics card- especially since you wish to play modern games - some of which are very graphic intensive.
This laptop is also very solid with an excellent keyboard, nice cooling, and nice display.

Unfortunately your budget is a bit to low.
You could get below 1000$ but you'd have to go for a 960m card, it should handle Legion okay but the 970m is a major upgrade worth the extra imo.

So for you to decide.
You could try to find a used one, the price would easily fall under 1000 then.

This Laptop would be a brilliant choice.

u/krauserhunt · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I agree, if you are getting a 965m for $999 thats a pretty good deal, provided the laptop cooling and aesthetics are nice.
Below $1000, you will mostly find 960m in various configurations.

A laptop with 970m will definitely take the budget up and over $1100 such as

ALIENWARE

ASUS ROG

Something along these lines is what you'll be looking for. You'll want to try to get a 970m GPU 960m if you can't afford a 970m. 980m is out of your budget, but always keep an eye out. Beside that, you'll want at least 8gb of ram, and a 4th generation i5 or i7 and up. Maybe this will help narrow your search.

This is probably the best I can think of for '1000 going 100 or so over'. Decent amount of gaming power with the 970M, an important distinction from the 960Ms that will otherwise populate the 1000 dollar range.

The thing is, 'best gaming laptop I can get' and 'a good laptop for brining to class' are pretty much mutually exclusive. You need to decide on portable and productive and good battery life, or raw gaming power. Something that can handle ultra/high games wont be a good 'bring to class' laptop. That's just the nature of it.

If you really want the best of both worlds, consider a desktop and a chromebook. If you live in driving distance that is. Definitely possible with an 1100 dollar budget.

u/LonerIM2 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I can see that this is almost 250 above you budget, if you can wait for the prime day on amazon, you might get a good deal then, but if you can not wait, then I would recommend this Asus ROG G751JT it comes with Intel Core i7-4720HQ 2.6GHz (turbo up to 3.6 GHz). 16 GB RAM.
1 TB 7200RPM Hard Drive.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M with 3GB DDR5 VRAM (G-Sync)
17.3" IPS FHD matte display (1920x1080) with built in G-sync hardware.
4x USB 3.0, 1x Thunderbolt 2, 1x HDMI, Intelligent Thermal Design, rear venting design directs heat away. Separate thermal modules for the CPU and GPU. Specially-designed Game Keys.

If you want to keep the cost down, the Acer Aspire V17 Nitro would do well for you. It has 91% sRGB coverage to ensure you could get accurate colors for your photo editing work and its GTX 960M will handle your games easily enough.

If you wanted to step the specs up, you could get the Asus ROG G751JT, but the display isn't amazing, and you may not have as nice of experience with your Photoshop work.

The Alienware 17 R3 would also be a really good option for performance, with a 6th gen processor as opposed to the 4th gen in the G751JT, while still having the GTX 970M. The display on it is really great too, but may warrant calibration.

u/Patriot_Gamer · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

You can get a more powerful Asus laptop for about 150$ less on Amazon or Best Buy right now: https://www.amazon.com/Republic-G751JT-WH71-WX-17-Inch-Windows/dp/B015QZVAF2.

Its got a 970M in comparison to the 965.

u/anotherpunkkid · 2 pointsr/hardwareswap

I think you can get a 970m with gsync new for that price.

Edit- I was right.

u/StormMasterBaitor · 2 pointsr/laptops

you can play fallout 4 and skyrim above low settings on something like a 940m for only like $500

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834315302&cm_re=acer_940m-_-34-315-302-_-Product

or get something like this with a 960m which will play fallout 4 on high and skyrim maxed probably for only $840

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152951&cm_sp=Homepage_FDD-_-P1_34-152-951-_-05212016

for $1500 u could get a 970m and still have $300 to spare tho if you get something like this and maybe add an ssd for like $100 or less

I think some customers received laptops with a broken screen and gave it a one star rating, which significantly draws down the average. If that happens, I think you can return it.

The same laptop has better reviews on [amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/Asus-G751JT-WH71-WX-17-Inch-2-60GHz/dp/B015QZVAF2) (but a higher price there).

Personally, I would probably go for it because it is a great deal, but if you want a hassle-free experience there are probably better (and more expensive) options.

Let me know if you want a different recommendation.

u/TacticalBastard · 2 pointsr/laptops

If "future-proofing" is what you're into, either buy a Alienware, or a Razer laptop. Both have fully functioning eGPU cases, that work wonderfully. Since your budget is 1.5k you will want to go with Alienware, but if you're budget increases and you want a smaller form factor and a more professional look, Razer is also a good option.

However if you don't like either of those and still want the future proofing. Get something with a Thunderbolt/USB-C port. More and more laptops will be receiving software updates to support eGPU's and as long as they have TB, they should be able to support it eventually and it will be compatible with any TB based eGPU (The only one I know of at the moment is the Razer Core, which has issues on all other devices than the Razer Blade and the Stealth

Here are some good ones to check out
The ROG G75JT At 1.2k

And the MSI GE62 Apache Pro at 1.1k

Both have thunderbolt so future proofing is might be possible eventually.

Good specs and great price[Dell 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop, Core i5-6300HQ, 8GB DDR3, 256GB SSD, Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M, Windows 10 $799] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015PYYDMQ/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=)

If you need/want a more powerful PC [ASUS ROG 17-Inch Gaming Laptop, i7-4720HQ, Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD $1,200] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015QZVAF2/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=)

Looking at this one

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B015QZVAF2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1466219239&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=gaming+laptop+970m&dpPl=1&dpID=41n11ZQaAVL&ref=plSrch

Specs look good but not a ton of reviews on this particular one. I'm not deadset on it but it's the cheapest with 970m I've seen

u/bohlingc · 1 pointr/buildapc

This is "buildapc" so we are probably the wrong people to ask, but unless you actually are in Canada/Australia, those are horrible prices.

Get something like this instead

u/ikarnus · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

> razer blade

I've got an older model of this laptop, and while is bulkier than the razer blade, it's cheaper too.

There are other cheaper 970m laptops in amazon.

u/RedditRuler101 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

i dont mean to be a pain in the ass but would it be worth it for this laptop to go up extra couple hundred to this one

For high or ultra at 1080p you need a minimum of a 970m. You can get 45+ FPS on the hardest to run games (AC syndicate and ROTTR) with that on high/ultra. There are some really good deals on some 970m laptops with last gen i7s right now (even the Haswell i7s are more than enough for a 970m)

Try something like this. http://www.amazon.com/G751JT-WH71-WX-17-Inch-GeForce-Version/dp/B015QZVAF2/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1457542911&sr=1-3&keywords=gtx+970m

u/Michiganders · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

If you want even more powerful specs, you can find a few things in your price range. Like the ASUS ROG G751 for $1000. It is more powerful than all 3 that you linked with a 970M graphics card (all 3 you linked have a 960M, the 970M is about 60% more efficient). It also has similar specs with a skylake i7, 16gb Ram and a 1TB HDD. However it is larger than the others you linked at 17.3 inches and 8 pounds.

If you want a more portable 15.6 inch with a SSD, the MSI Apache Pro also comes with a more powerful 970M graphics card for $1100. It also has a quad-core i5 processor, 8gb of ram (upgradable if you want), and 256gb m.2 SSD. It would still run games better than the three you linked.

Both of these are also better build quality than the three you linked, and I would trust them more in terms of reliability.

Here's some cheaper ones at similar performance, without accessories.
