So first thing's first, Windows: ~$130 for Home Edition.

Okay, so things to keep in mind:

  1. If you go Intel, overclocking isn't too great on 9th gen intel, especially if you don't have a beefy aftermarket cpu cooler. So if you don't plan on doing that at some point then you don't need a K series CPU and an overclocking motherboard. So your motherboard should primarily focus on giving you decent I/O options.

  2. You also probably want to aim for 1080p or 1440p tops, given your price range.

  3. Related to #1: If you don't plan on overclocking then a basic-ish mobo will do fine, and you mainly want to focus on I/O and other features. If you are getting Intel doubly so, as, as I mentioned before, intel 9th gen doesn't overclock well due to relatively low headroom to begin with. For intel overclocking boards are "Z" while non-overclocking boards are "B". For AMD they are "X" and "B" respectively.

The GPU you should be seeking to use is the 1660 Ti, which is basically a slightly gimped RTX 2060 but without the raytracing stuff. If you are willing to spend a bit more then you could get an RX 5700 instead, which is nearly ~30% faster on average.

That'll put you at $270 - $360 depending on the model you pick. Yes, it's a third of your budget, but the GPU is the single most important part of your build.

Secondly you'll want a decent CPU to go with that.

The Ryzen 5 3600 looks like a pretty good CPU, its a bit under $200, its fairly beefy and extendable so it's somewhat "future-proof" - in that it shouldn't cause much bottlenecking and you could upgrade your GPU past a 2080 Ti before needing to change the processor.

This MSI Tomohawk Mobo looks good for the 3600.

So we're at ~$320 for that, or about $640 total. Plus windows that is ~$730.

The RAM Inty recommended before should be fine. You only really need 16 GB. This will set you back ~$80. If you find yourself wanting more RAM later down the line you can always add another pair of sticks later and double up your RAM.

That puts us at around ~$800.

$80 for a 750W Fully Modular Corsair PSU is basically a steal. It's refurbished though, although that shouldn't be a problem - especially with a PSU.

    We're at ~$880.

Some good thermal paste for your CPU.

    We're now at ~$890.

Storage depends on what you want to do. Do you install a lot of stuff and files at once? In which case you might want to get a nice sized SSD plus a big HDD.

For your system drive. Plenty of space, good price, AND its an nvme SSD.

    That makes for ~$990.

If you need lots of extra space

If you need extreme extra space

Keyboard and case are up to you, decide as you please. For the case just make sure that it can support an ATX mobo, as the mobo listed here is full ATX. Mechanical keyboards are crack, but they tend to be more expensive so they're probably out of range. This will be another $100 to $150 depending on what you pick.

Something to keep in mind though: Your case and your monitors are basically "future proof". In other words, they won't really get "worse" with time or cause future performance issues. So monitors and case are things where you want to consider what you'll eventually want and buy ahead, even if you have to stretch a bit.

This just leaves your monitor. I would NOT recommend a 1080p monitor above 24 in. Honestly, if you can go for a 1440p monitor then do it. I'm a bit of a resolution whore tho, so if 1080p works for you then that's fine. I would also avoid TN panels - they tend to look more washed out, tinny, and have worse viewing angles . . . although they also tend to be a fair bit cheaper than the good panels (namely IPS panels).

I used to own one of these . . . it was vvy vvy gud. This is a relatively artsy monitor, so if color gamut correctness or whatever is important for you for photo or video editing or whatever, then this is a good pick. It's a bit expensive, yeah, but also super gorgeous. It also goes up to 75 Hz. Conversely, get a freesync monitor, and this one is probably good - haven't done much research on it, but Dells are generally pretty good in my experience (my current 4K monitor is a Dell too). Freesync will allow you to basically eliminate screen tearing and will provide a smoother feeling experience because it will even out frame rates better.

One last thing to keep in mind: Shopping around on ebay and other sites can save you a fair bit. My rule of thumb is to never, ever buy sensitive parts like hard-drives, cpus, or motherboards second hand or refurbished. But everything else is fair game. So refurbished GPUs, Monitors, PSUs, Cases, etc. should be fine. Pre-owned? Ehhh . . . that I'm much, much more sketchy on - personally I wouldn't, but that's just me.

So in total it'd be somewhere in the range of $1500 including monitor, OS, case, and keyboard. The system itself is around $1000. But you can perhaps knock off a hundred bucks or two by shopping around and looking for where you can buy these parts cheaper than Amazon.

But again: investing in a good monitor and case can be worth it. It means you won't have to replace it if/when you do upgrade. And worst case scenario you can offload your monitor as a side/secondary monitor when you upgrade your monitor to a new one.

NOTE: 75hz

Also for sale on Amazon for the same price here. According to CamelCamelCamel it's the lowest price for this product. I will mostly be using my computer for gaming and some very light Photoshop, this seems like a pretty solid monitor. I have a GTX 1070 and I mostly play Overwatch, should I pick this monitor up myself?

1440p IPS would be what I'd go with. Something like this

If you're not in a hurry, I'd use camelcamelcamel and price track some monitors you're interested in.

I picked up my PCU earlier in the month when it was on sale - Corsair RMi Series, RM750i, 750 Watt, 80+ Gold , Fully Modular - Digital Power Supply

What do you think is a better option for screen? Either two of these or one of these. I'll be doing some moderate gaming on it, I don't have tons of time for games, but when I play I'd like them to look great if I'm spending this much. Same goes for movies.

Anything else I'm missing? I'll keep the mouse I already have and I found a mechanical keyboard that seems fine.
u/ByyChase · 2 pointsr/buildapc

for sub 300, you are not going to get a high quality 1440p 100+ hz monitor. Those are closer to the $500 range. For Christmas, i did upgrade to the pb277q. 1440p, 75 hz, 1ms response time super small bezels (big factor for me) and has a great stand and mount. Only $315 too which is a little above your price range but will be the closest to what you want close to your price range. Also the 1440p 60 vs 1080p 144 depends on the games you play. 1440p 60: Rpgs and not fast pased games like Fallout 4, Crysis, Skyrim ect. Games that the visuals are more important. 1080p 1444: games like Cod, csgo, Leauge, Battlefeild ect

Something like those two would work. If you're doing professional editing, you want a probably want a 1440p IPS panel. TN panels have slightly washed out color so I don't recommend em for photo editing and stuff, but like I work/game on a 500 dollar 1440p 144HZ TN panel and I think it looks perfect.

The thing to keep in mind is most screens look washed out, out of the box, so always try to look up a particular model and what calibrations it could take to give a sharper color. It's a really easy setup.

This is the only correct answer. Web development doesn't require much in the hardware department, but it does require a keyboard, mouse, and ideally, a big display. Instead of dropping $650+ on an ipad that is terrible for web dev, you could easily buy a cheap mini and a proper monitor.

I have one of these ASUS PB277Q It's a 1440p 75hz 1ms 27" TN panel at the same price you would spend on that Acer.
Edit: As per performance, My 980Ti is about the same if slightly less performance of 2x 970s, I average 70+ FPS in demanding AAA titles.

To be honest, you have WAY more options than those for 1440p and under 300 bucks. Just go on newegg and search monitors, for price say 0-300 and then for resolution 2560x1440. You'll get a LOT of options all under 300. Some 60hz, some 75hz.

One tip, if you play a lot of games that ssd is gonna fill fairly quickly, maybe get a 250GB ssd and a 1TB hard drive. Like Orphan_Anthem_86 said. It works good as long as the game has decent UI scaling.

I'm actually trying to get a 1440p monitor, even a 60hz but they do not fucking exist in Argentina. For example, Amazon blocks Argentina to purchase, so I was looking this monitor but it costs me 800 USD to bring it to my house.

I'm waiting for January because things "might" change and everything will be cheaper.

IMHO, 1080p on 27 inch is not a good match. I would consider buying 1440p (2560x1440) resolution at 27 inch.

For $300, you can pick up something like this:

or

Or if you want IPS, you can look for korean 27 inch 1440p IPS monitors on ebay (there are many forum threads) for ~$200-300. Some of which are overclockable to 120hz refresh rate.

I have the 34" version of this LG monitor and I really like it. the 21:9 ratio is not for everybody tho and all games don't support the 2560x1080 resolution.

You could look into getting a 27" 1440p like this ASUS one which would be better than the 24" that you have.
Getting a 27" monitor is a pretty big change tbh and what ever you get will be a good upgrade.

Personally I really enjoy my ultrawide while playing Heroes of the Storm.

Here's the one I got recently.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EN3Z7QQ/?tag=pcpapi-20

It's not a 4k, but it has a decent refresh rate, and for me the real selling point was a 1ms response time, which is great for twitchy games. (It made me way better at Spelunky)

My cursory search for 144HZ 4k monitors didn't turn up any results. I'm willing to bet the few that are out there are pretty expensive, and IIRC, the current DisplayPort standard only supports 4k up to 120HZ. I couldn't find any 120HZ 4k monitors, either.

Here's a 1440p monitor with 144HZ refresh rate and a 1ms response time. It's within your budget less taxes.

Biggest downside is definitely the speakers, they’re pretty much useless. But if u have a headset or auxiliary speakers then it’s perfect.

A lot of the time, the only difference between an ITX and mATX tower will be just height, especially if the ITX supports a full size GPU (which is what you want for gaming). IMO cubes don't make sense for saving space; they wind up being bulkier a lot of the time. The tower is able to stay slim by building tall. Right now this is the monitor I was looking at for you. I wouldn't get a Pixio; LG, Acer, or maaaybe Vizio are the go to cheap brands. But then again I don't know a ton about monitors, maybe Pixio is fine.

I think you will be able to flirt with 60fps in the latest AAA games if you go mATX, but it'll be close. Your lows will probably dip into the 50s. ITX is probably pushing it too much. Still a WIP, tho.

Edit: I can't find any Vega 64 on Amazon. That really throws a wrench in things... Maybe 2070 is fine 2070 is over budget, but it's a little pricier and also means no freesync. Newegg has em.

13% is nice, but not usually a big enough deal to hop on something before you actually need it. If you need a monitor now, then jump on it. If not, then maybe price shop for the next week or two.

I linked a few other monitors I liked. I don't know if they're priced similarly for you, but you can decide:

Depends on what he wants and what he wants to spend for it.

Some things he has to consider:

27" or 24" ?

-144hz or less?

-1440p?

-G-Sync?

some recommendations: (simply monitors that I've seen here from time to time)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IOO4SGK/?tag=pcpapi-20

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1144794-REG/acer_um_hg0aa_001_xg270hu_omidpx_27_widescreen.html (this would be 27", 1440p, 144Hz)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LJUNMYK/ref=psdc_1292115011_t3_B01IOO4SGK (24", 1440p, 144hz, with G-sync)

But I don't really know that much about monitors, so you would have better luck at r/monitors

another one caught my eye but this seems very affordable considering how low im trying to keep my budget, i got my eye on this one but yeah i like the one you sent

Without breaking your bank, this is a killer 1440p monitor.

A GTX 1070ti will be more than enough to run games on it. The 1060 should also be "FINE" but it's not the most optimal.

I strongly encourage finding at least 75hz just like this one ASUS PB277Q 27" WQHD 2560x1440 75Hz 1ms HDMI DVI VGA Eye Care Monitor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EN3Z7QQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_cQ.3AbWP669ZV ips too if you prefer it but theres also the s2417dg with g sync and 165hz but only a TN panel.

Looking to upgrade to a 1440p monitor to go with my new 1070. (Currently using 1080p).

Can someone recommend a monitor to me in the 200-400 price point? I'm looking for low response time, >60hz refresh rate if possible. IPS would be nice but not necessary.

Currently looking at these two and can't decide which is better:

nuh uh that's the weird thing I haven't found a single thing about the PB277Q yet and it sounds like a real solid monitor.. here's a link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EN3Z7QQ/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=177X0U6HFMLPI&coliid=ITG87GQINZN3P&psc=1

I'm purchasing a 1070 and I'm also considering upgrading my 1080p 60hz monitor to this 1440 monitor. Is this worth it? I'd like to keep it under 300 but this is the best I could find.
