PSA: Amazon Prime Day is fast approaching. There are so many options for forwarding and some have promos for Prime Day starting already.

Also PSA: the local distributors are all ripping you off and offer dumster-fire tier customer service and warranties. Don't support them till they stop (and ignore their puppet accounts that will reply with FUD). Do the math yourself on forwarding costs, the big Prime Day price discounts (check camelcamelcamel for the actual lowest price on items) and amazing Amazon customer service vs buying locally and getting shit-tier customer support the local distributors. The exception to this is cell phones, the US sucks for this if you want dual sims, no bloat or any kind of modern cell phone experience. Europe is much better and there are forwarders who offer EU addresses, but forwarding is overall more expensive from Europe. Make sure you choose a forwarder who has been around for a while and has people on social media reporting good experiences (there are crappy/rip off forwarders now). I will not recommend any particular service as they all have negatives and positives and I am not interested in advertising for any of them.

I posted a lengthy price calculation on a post by a guy who got ripped off buying a P145,000 laptop on Lazada from the official seller (which is just a local distributor) so you can see what that looks like:

>Let me pose the question to you: have you checked out Shippingcart, Jinio, POBox, Johnny Air, etc? How much would that laptop be if you bought it on Amazon? Forget putting it on Camelcamelcamel and waiting for the price to drop or on Black Friday/Prime Day or something, just retail price and bought the laptop today? Lets find out.

>So I dont know what model you tried to buy but you said ROG. See [this model at Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B07G5Z9H8R/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all) (its the Amazon Choice model). Right now its $1299.99 sold by Amazon itself (best seller to buy big ticket items you will import): https://imgur.com/a/eeKVxhV.

>So there is tax of $126.75 if you ship it to Jinio (Connecticut). That is: P67,314.13 + P6563.18 = P73877.31. But then you've got shipping. This is really hard to calculate depending on how you ship (sea or air) and which company you use (I use 8 different forwarding companies these days). I air shipped 2 laptops and a few other things 6-7 months ago via Shippingcart with their 12lbs 15% off promo and it looks like I paid about $58 per laptop.

>So, P3003.27 + P73877.31 = P76880.58. Thats right, a little over half what you paid OP. And you get that sweet Amazon customer service.

>But wait, what if something went wrong in shipment? So this is Amazon itself you bought from. If you don't know what this means, this is the company that is giving refunds for Huawei phones bought 1 year ago (as per people on /r/Android). Ok so say you have to send it back to Amazon. This is a PIA but LBC is one of the cheaper options for this and I can tell you it costs around P7000 to send a laptop back to Amazon or Best Buy (I`ve done it to both). Then you have to pay to forward it back to you here in the Philippines.

> So, P7000+ P3003.27 + P76880.58 = P84180.85. Yep, even if you have to replace a broken laptop (or received a switch instead of a laptop) its still about 60% the price you paid.

Straight from Dave Lee's review on YouTube, the ASUS Zephyrus S GX531GS is a great fit. It has no overheating issues. It has:

  • i7-8750H 6-core processor

  • 16 GB of RAM

  • 512 GB SSD storage

  • 1080p 144Hz 15.6" display

  • GTX 1070 8 GB Max-Q graphics card

  • Weight of 4.6lbs

The laptop runs Windows 10 Home. The laptop will be able to run recent games on high settings to max.
u/Atulin · 4 pointsr/webdev

That's curious, especially after you compare this with, for example, this.

u/The_Adviser100 · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I would really advise you to go 15.6", you are missing a lot of great laptops in this area so for CPU intensive work in this price range I would advise you to check one of those laptops

the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX531GS is what I've been usimg as my daily driver since December and it's handled everything perfectly fine! The price is a little high, but for my use it's perfect. It's also very slim and lightweight. on the downside, it sounds like a fucking jet engine when under load lol

overall, very worth imo.

Since you're paying for a new laptop that has a thunderbolt3 port (the Y530 doesn't have that, a decent 15" would be around $1000) + eGPU (w/enclosure+gpu can go for ~$500) you're getting close to ASUS Zephyrus range (~$1800). Amazon link

For $300 more you get a 144hz screen, 1070 MaxQ, decent thermals, decent cpu, nvme ssd etc.

It also depends on the games you want to play. If you can do without VR then you'll have cheaper options with 1050/1060 laptops without bothering with the eGPU or something that costs $1300+.

Here's a recent list of laptops with TB3 ports

For school, I would recommend nothing bigger than 15.6 inches .

One of my favorite systems for college students who want portability, a decent enough battery life and of course, gaming performance is this MSI GS65 Stealth, but it tops your budget and only comes with a 256 GB SSD.. External hard drives are fine once you are willing to carry it around with you- you don't see much of a difference when accessing certain data from an external drive. This ASUS ROG Zephyrus S is also decent, but it has a weaker graphics card than the MSI stealth above in the ( maxq version o the GTX 1070).. If I were looking for a laptop though and am not concerned about weight, this MSI GE63 Raider RGB-010 would be a good contender but as I have said before... I really like the MSI Stealth.

u/ZFLloyd · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

The Asus Zephyrus S would fit the bill (1900$ on amazon), I wouldn't recommend other thin and light gaming alptop atm as there are still a lot of thermal issues. So far the Zephyrus S seem to have the best thermals and thus longevity.

u/starcherro5000 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

The problem is the xps 15 has loads of issues, just go r/Dell and have a look at them. You are paying too much for the Zephyrus M or the Zephyrus S:

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=asus+gm501

Alternatively you can just get the Asus gl504, it's pretty much the same except the thunderbolt 3 port is exclusive for the Zephyrus M gm501:

The Dell XPS series is well known for good build quality and their amazing InfinityEdge 4K display. So it is really worth it. Just take note that the 13 version packs an integrated gpu that is not ideal for gaming especially PUBG. If you want something more powerful, I will recommend you to take a look at the new -> ASUS ROG Zephyrus S.

It packs the latest 8th gen processor, a GTX 1070 Max-Q, 16GB RAM, 512 NVMe SSD storage and a fast 144Hz display. Best if you can try it out at your local stores and see if it works for you. Good luck!

Hey! I might be looking to part with my Zephyrus S (i7-8750H CPU, GeForce GTX 1070 MaxQ, 16GB DDR4, 512GB SSD)

Not the easiest to work on, but let me know if you're interested!

If you want something reliable the Lenovo ThinkPad P52s is the way to go.

Screen Size : 15 inches

Processor : Core i7-8550U

Graphics : NVIDIA Quadro P500

RAM : 32 GB

Weight : 4.3 lbs

Storage Type : 512 GB SSD

This laptop will be able to handle Engineering software, VMs, and modeling, etc. It comes with a quad-core CPU and lots of RAM which will be able to multitask well and handle intense programs without issue. While it is not a gaming laptop it will be able to manage modern titles at decent fps at low settings including overwatch). The battery life for this laptop is great as its CPU is low power which means you won't have to travel with your charger on a day to day basis. It has an internal battery as well as a removable battery which can extend the battery life up to 25+ hrs. Its port selection is good as well as it comes with a thunderbolt port so you can use an external GPU if you plan to run AAA titles in the future.

However, if you want something with more gaming power the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX531GS-AH76 would be a better option but its battery life is not as good.

Really leaning towards the asus zephyrus s gx531gs but on camelcamelcamel its gone for as low as 1299, should i wait for the price to drop around black Friday or is this likely going to be the lowest it'll go for a while? any other recommendations? i looked at the msi GS65 but alot of the reveiws complained about thermals.

Fortnite isn't a difficult game to run. Anything with a 1060 gtx (6gb) runs it on ultra no problem. So, any laptop that has a 1060 and above will be more than enough power. If you're looking for a gaming laptop then 120-140hz display panel is something else you may be interested in. There are a few low budget laptops being released atm with 1660 ti's which are better than the 1060s and just under 2060s.

ASUS ROG Zephryus S w/ 1070 GTX

ASUS ROG Strix Scar II w/ 1060 GTX

Acer Predator Helios 300 w/ GTX 1660ti

MSI GP75 9SD-437 w/ GTX 1660ti

All of the above come from major brands and can easily be googled to find a review of the unit or a unit close to it. They are all under 1500 and could run most triple-A titles at high-ultra settings. They are also low key compared to some other gaming laptops. Also, I watch Lisa from Mobiletech Review, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCW6J17hZ_Vgr6cQgd_kHt5A . She's pretty straight forward and unbias IMO. Hope this helped! Good luck.

If your able to run yours, I must be missing something. The heavier inverters I see after 175w are all meant to hard connect to the batteries. Your sure your 400w isn’t connected to your batteries? What brand is?

Super thin, light, and a gaming beast, if you go with the amazon warehouse deal its $1203.80 right now.

Also people have had a lot of luck with undervolting the cpu and getting better boost clocks out of it at much lower temperatures.

u/randycool279 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Wow thank you very much! So I found this laptop, a ASUS Zephyrus S on amazon for $1399. The only difference compared to the P65 on paper is the graphics card. You did mention that some Zephyrus models do include the Sabre HiFi DAC, do you know if this one has that DAC?

Thanks!

u/B1Gassfan · 1 pointr/CFB

If you did want a laptop I would totally snag this or this. Both have enough hardware to play current AAA titles and will last for a few years for sure

If you do want to part out a PC to build Amazon might not be the most cost effective so check a bunch of different sites to make sure before pulling the trigger (including microcenter if there's one near you). Here's a decent start list though:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 $199.99

GPU: Zotac RTX 2070 $556.43

Mobo: Gigabyte x470 Aorus Ultra Gaming $124.90

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance 3000mhz $69.99

Storage: Samsung 970 Evo m.2 nvme 500GB for OS/select programs $89.99

2TB Seagate Firecuda SSHDD for library storage, if necessary $59.99

PSU: EVGA 650W, 80 plus gold rated fully modular PSU $97.06

OS: [OEM Win10](https://www.amazon.com/Windows-Home-English-Language-Product/dp/B07TW6G6JP/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=windows+10&qid=1563210474&s=gateway&sr=8-7]. $72.00 Not need if you already have. Pretty sure you can get even cheaper OEM copies out there. Or y'know, other means. Or Linux, etc

Total: $1270.35 including the OEM Win10 which you may or may not need

Missing items: monitor, mouse, keyboard, case. Compared to the prebuilt at $1499.99 that leaves you $229.64 to get a case & any necessary peripherals, upgrade any items on the list, or just pocket the 'savings'

The ibuypower one linked doesn't appear to be that bad. But when reading the comments there are people who got the 8700k version for $1350 (currently $1433, one you linked "on sale" for 1499.99)...so pricing might be misleading. Also keep in mind SI's need to make a profit and usually skimp when it comes to things like cooling, storage and motherboards. I can't tell what mobo that has, but it shouldn't be much of an issue unless you want to overclock, probably not as good components and features as what I listed though. The cooling is actually pretty nice with the cpu watercooling at that price. But not sure on how it is for the other components (ie system case fans). The storage is a bit shit, with a smaller sata ssd and a smaller much slower mechanical hdd. The RAM isn't much better, going off amazon reviews it's basically no name ram at 2666mhz. Also they use a generic 600W psu and apparently the included mouse and keyboard stink. So gotta take the good with the bad but the one I price out looks like a much better option across the board and leaves you room to pick and choose certain upgrades n such

u/wilder782 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

All of the above have much better build quality and are literally half the price.

$1720 with a 1060 vs $1250 - $1500 with a GPU 50% faster. I mean this is a no brainer.

Edit, the HP Omen actually has a 2070 unit for $1500 in the same amazon listing above. I mean, if anyone buys a $1720 15" Razer with a 1060 over an HP Omen with a GPU 2x as fast, the same display, basically the same CPU for less I would have to say youre straight up a retard.

That's most of Razer's consumer-base though.
