A few things to point out.

The most disappointing video card was between the Radeon VII and the 1650. Here's the thing. No one ever gets excited for low end budget cards to begin with, and I don't recall Nvidia hyping up the 1650. The RVII, on the other hand, was announced at one of the biggest shows of the year with AMD giving 3 benchmarks that showed it beating the RTX 2080. Then it comes out and is 8% slower, without all the rtx features, and suffers from all the AMD/Vega problems. At the same price. That's a disappointment beyond what the 1650 could ever put out. The 1650 feels completely shoehorned in.

Now the Rx 5700 got the best award for enthusiasts because of the powerplay mod and flashing for that 10% boost to performance to match 5700XT levels while consuming Rx Fury levels of energy. That's silly considering that most gpus can overclock to ~10% performance uplift using whatever overclocking software you choose. They shouldn't get an award for that, especially with all the Navi driver bugs.

Edit: I just thought of something after seeing a good black friday sale. The 1650 is available in plenty of budget friendly laptops out there, with one being $600 right now.. It's the go to entry level laptop gpu, and to say it's a disappointment on the same level of the "first 7nm gaming gpu [to be discontinued]," well, that's just a lack of perspective. Having worse price to performance alone shouldn't put it on the list as AMD often has no choice to price their video cards lower to compete with Nvidia. For good reason. Expectations and hype, in my opinion, should be the deciding factor.

Asus TUF FX505DT Gaming Laptop, 15.6" 120Hz Full HD, AMD Ryzen 5 R5-3550H Processor, GeForce GTX 1650 Graphics, 8GB DDR4, 256GB PCIe SSD, Gigabit Wi-Fi 5, Windows 10 Home, FX505DT-AH51, RGB Keyboard https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VBK4SYS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_HM8VDb71H0XHS
You won’t get that with a 14 inch screen.
Light for a gaming laptop under five pounds.
Can’t speak to the thermals and it’s 50$ over your budget but the laptop you’ve asked for doesn’t really exist.

This would probably work, ASUS - FX505DD 15.6" Gaming Laptop - AMD Ryzen 5 - 8GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 - 256GB Solid State Drive - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07V336VJJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_xQBWDbKK1G7YR

Not sure if you have brand preference though. Theres also another model of the same with a way better gpu for ~$100 more upon initial checking

I would recommend that you push your budget a little and get the Asus Tuf the 120Hz. with a GTX 1650 should give you a very good gaming experience .

Yes, if you don't agree then there is also this deal on Asus Tuf which comes with same ram and storage as the HP but it comes with 120Hz screen which is a great plus for gaming.

Hi there! I'd say you have 3 options. THey all look kinda flashy with RGB keyboards and all, but spec-wise each has their pros:

u/legos45 · 2 pointsr/LaptopDeals

If you can make do with 4.5 hours of battery life for light use, the ASUS TUF FX505DT is likely a good fit. It isn't on sale currently, so you might find a better deal on Black Friday. But, it is still a good device to reference to so you know what kind of specifications to look for.

u/Kristosh · 2 pointsr/Surface

Honestly, at 720p lowest settings you MIIIGHT be able to get 30+ frames. Mayyyyyyybe at 1080p.

But really, if you want to game on a laptop just grab a last-gen gaming PC (HP Omen, Lenovo Y series, Acer Nitro series) with a 1050 ti or even 1060 and it will absolutely blow the laptop away. I'm talking 60fps+ at 1080p with medium-high settings, probably 3x-6x the performance and you'd probably spend a few hundred less.

The Laptop just isn't meant to be a gaming PC. The Surface keynote even highlighted that the custom AMD tuning was for 'professional workloads' and not so much gaming.

Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop PC for $989

Asus TUF Gaming Laptop FX504 15.6" for $809

u/trainedtech88 · 2 pointsr/LaptopDeals

Hey you could get this pretty decent Asus TUF FX505DT Gaming Laptop. It is pretty fast, it will manage your AAA games and is future proof.

u/oclsthrowaway · 2 pointsr/LaptopDeals

So there is a similar laptop on amazon for $699. The laptop listed here has no information about the refresh rate on the screen. The only difference between this laptop and the one on amazon is the CPU. the R7-3750H is only 5% faster than the R5-3550H according to userbenchmark.com. That being said, I'm probably going to go with the one on amazon https://www.amazon.com/R5-3550H-Processor-Graphics-FX505DT-AH51-Keyboard/dp/B07VBK4SYS/ref=as_li_ss_tl?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07VBK4SYS&pd_rd_r=cabeea7a-ca93-4d3d-a7e9-f73c30c9b8e1&pd_rd_w=ybrXt&pd_rd_wg=hLLJe&pf_rd_p=ef4dc990-a9ca-4945-ae0b-f8d549198ed6&pf_rd_r=P8VCH1FYRQ0H8FJAX37T&psc=1&refRID=P8VCH1FYRQ0H8FJAX37T&linkCode=ll1&tag=3918-20&linkId=9717f86101ee7e8d6a76b6f87ff13c73&language=en_US due to the fact that a 5% faster CPU is not worth an extra $50 (especially when Walmart doesn't list the refresh rate of the screen and I am unable to find any info ANYWHERE regarding this specific model).. +Amazon has faster shipping

u/Kurosov · 2 pointsr/Amd

Well I’ve seen the asus tuf laptops with a 3550h and GTX 1650 for as low as £650 here in the U.K. bundled with a game and controller now.

They’re currently $699 without a deal on amazon US.
https://www.amazon.com/FX505DT-IPS-Type-R5-3550H-GeForce-FX505DT-AH51/dp/B07VBK4SYS/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=asus+tuf+ryzen+5+1650&qid=1566457902&s=gateway&sr=8-1

They really are a steal for the performance. 8gb stick with a second RAM slot free, NVMe SSD with a sata drive bay free for expansion. RGB keyboard, freesync 120hz panel.

Only real downside is no USB-C.

u/PistolPete_57 · 1 pointr/LaptopDeals

It is 60Hz, and I plan on returning it. I might opt for this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VBK4SYS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 or that new MSI with the 5500m that just came out

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07VBK4SYS/ref=dp_ob_neva_mobile
This might fare as a better option. For better Hz
Gpu is like 9% weaker but is more efficient on power and thermals.
I’m considering one of these.

u/gaminglaptopsjunky2 · 1 pointr/GamingLaptops

This one is now selling for $700 with 120HZ IPS and it would probably be better to add some more RAM

u/techstar2000 · 1 pointr/LaptopDeals

u/Gatordude365 · 1 pointr/GamingLaptops

Is that better than the ASUS fx505?

u/____Some_guy____ · 1 pointr/LaptopDeals

Ok, so I looked through recs and was looking for a laptop designed to handle some abuse, so i think I'm going to go with an ASUS TUF. My old laptop has two sticks of 8 GB RAM that I suspect are fine, so I was thinking of going with this: [ASUS TUF config 1] (https://www.amazon.com/Gaming-TUF505DU-KB71-GTX1660Ti-Windows-Notebook/dp/B07S37JY44) and shoving in another stick of RAM

But was also looking at [ASUS TUF config 2] (https://www.amazon.com/R5-3550H-Processor-Graphics-FX505DT-AH51-Keyboard/dp/B07VBK4SYS) and [ASUS TUF config 3] (https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-IPS-Type-R7-3750H-GeForce-TUF505DU-EB74/dp/B07QQB6DC1)

Any thoughts on the value of going with one of the upgraded models? The most intense thing I'd want to do is run AAA games on min settings. Should I just stick with config 2 for the lower price tag?

Edit: Amazon reviews are pointing to less than 2 hour battery life and constant screen black outs so might still be searching...

u/Ubiquitous-Toss · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

I'm surprised noone replied to you yet. I feel like I'm in the same exact boat as you and I was looking at the Asus Tuf as it was a good deal in specs for the price. But I am hesitant of the build quality.

Budget: $750

Country: USA - San Francisco

Screen size:15.6

Screenresolution: 1080

Touch screen: No

Weight: Doesn't matter

So I want something for gaming like: 1080 60Hz screen, 8 GB RAM (pref 16GB), 512 gb ssd(pref) or 1TB HD and a gtx 1050 to a gtx 1650(pref). Something like Lenovo Ideapad L340 Gaming Laptop would be ideal. Or Asus TUF FX505DT Gaming Laptop. Would like 16 GB Ram but it might be hard at that price range.

The thing is I'm not from USA and a friend is travelling to San Francisco on December, he'll buy the laptop from a local store. I need advice on which stores offer good deals, I know there's a bestbuy store close but would like a second option if there is one. Thanks!

The jack-of-all-trades laptops are typically known as the ultrapremiums, such as the XPS 15, and X1 Extreme, typically ranging $1000-$2000, depending on how they're spec'd.

You can get something cheaper like this to take care of about everything other than not having good battery life, as the other redditor had mentioned. A 1650 or 1050Ti would suffice fine for gaming, and the CPUs paired with those gaming-esque laptops will be fine for about any other use case. :)

The Asus TUF FX505DT is a good laptop to get so you should not have any fears when purchasing. It is easy to upgrade as all you have to do is remove the 11 screws and you will have access to all its components. You can add a HDD if you want more space, easily swap out the RAM stick etc. The 120hz display will make a huge difference when compared to the MSI as well. Cooling wise its decent as well, parts f the keyboard does get hot when gaming but none of the parts that are generally used,

This would definitely get the job done: Asus TUF FX505DT.

I don't think MX150 graphics would be quite enough, so you're looking for a budget gaming laptop with a GTX 1050 or better. These will typically be in the $600-700 range. May be able to find good deals for Black Friday.
