If this is just for game dev, you don't even need to spend 1k anymore. There are great laptops on Amazon for less than 1,000 and will easily do the job. But if you want to get a laptop to game on as well, then you'll need to spend alittle more depending on what games you want to play.

Purely game dev:

Honestly, at 720p lowest settings you MIIIGHT be able to get 30+ frames. Mayyyyyyybe at 1080p.

But really, if you want to game on a laptop just grab a last-gen gaming PC (HP Omen, Lenovo Y series, Acer Nitro series) with a 1050 ti or even 1060 and it will absolutely blow the laptop away. I'm talking 60fps+ at 1080p with medium-high settings, probably 3x-6x the performance and you'd probably spend a few hundred less.

The Laptop just isn't meant to be a gaming PC. The Surface keynote even highlighted that the custom AMD tuning was for 'professional workloads' and not so much gaming.

The ASUS TUF Gaming Laptop FX504 would be a good value for money in your budget. It has a GTX 1060 GPU (3GB) not the 6 GB version but it is still far more powerful than the 1050Ti GPU which you usually find in this budget. You can upgrade the RAM and storage easily if you want but you should not have a need to do it for a while. It is mostly plastic chassis but you won't get a metal body + gaming power for your budget

At the moment, this looks like great value, reviews for battery and screen quality are pretty negative, but it's priced well. You could then open it up and upgrade it to 16GB if you wanted.

The Dell 7577 with a 1060 has better reviews, still in your price range, although if you wanted a ram upgrade then it might push it out of the budget a bit.

I'm not even sure if it's possible - or feasible - to run Unity in a "cloud VM". It's surely nothing I would have tried, and I would definitely go for a PC, preferably a stationary (more bang for the bucks, better upgrade options etc.), but I can understand it if you must have a laptop; hard to drag the stationary around. :)

If your budget is max. $1.5K, there are tons of very good options out there. A quick search on Amazon.com gave me f.ex. this ASUS laptop at $1.2K + shipping. Quite good specs, and should be more than enough for Unity development.

Alternatively, it has a little brother for only $700 + shipping, which still would be a good choice, although 256GB disk might be a tad small.

Good luck!

> It's probably a bit out of reach but do you think I can do an i7, 1060 6gb+, 16gb ram,and 1tb hd + SSD for around $900 including shipping, taxes, and a year or two of accidental coverage? Thanks!

Wait for the labor day sales, and I highly doubt it anything that good would happen.

Getting the amazon warehouse deal for $650 and then an external storage drive and another 8gb stick of memory and you would be set but it is only the 3gb version, but no warranty past the 90 day one, and the 30 day amazon prime return.

If you can purchase soon, this appears to be the one while the sale lasts. Desktop grade graphics with an 8th gen I5. This should do wonders for you! If you’re looking for something less “gamer-y” let me know and I can find more. I’ll keep looking as well but this is the best I’ve found so far!

Edit #2

This is actually in your price range- you’re losing out on some graphics performance but it should still be plenty to play the game smoothly. You won’t get max setting but it will play just fine!

I want to by this and when i add it cart it doesn't show any additional taxes, only price for shipping. And there is no option to shipping to pocztamat.

For a desktop PC here is a parts list that comes to below what you’d be spending on the laptop. It includes a monitor and keyboard and mouse also and the specs will allow you to easily play squad with no problems - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/kNR8pG

As for a laptop, here’s one with a slightly lesser CPU but it has a better graphics card which will help. The CPU is still an 8th gen i5 which is plenty for squad, although the SSD is slightly small so it may be worth purchasing a bigger one down the line if you feel that you need it - https://www.amazon.com/IPS-level-i5-8300H-Processor-GeForce-Gigabit/dp/B07JF6HRJ1/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?keywords=gaming%2Blaptop&qid=1558697715&s=gateway&sr=8-11&th=1&psc=1

The ASUS TUF Gaming Laptop FX504 would be the laptop to go with in that case. Just know that the GTX 1060 is the 3 GB version not the 6 GB version

you can probably run both games fairly smoothly with these laptops... Though not sure about that last one, I guess it sorta depend on how hard you gonna mod your skyrim... It's definitely powerful enough for the vanilla tho running on medium/high with more than 60 fps. The first two you can probably play most modern games with as well.

u/legos45 · 1 pointr/LaptopDeals

For a bit more, the ASUS TUF FX504 is available with has a stronger GTX 1060 graphics card. Alternatively, for cheaper, the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop has a GTX 1050 Ti graphics card.

u/MrDraagyn · 1 pointr/GamingLaptops

A good gaming laptop, first and foremost has a good GPU, so starting with a 1060, then 1660, 1070, 1660ti, 2060 etc... So between 600 and 800, you could probably find a 1060 pretty easily.

Secondly you want a good processor (an i5 should be fine, look for an 8th gen, like the 8300H) I'd stay away from AMD/Ryzen processors, their laptop stuff is pretty garbage, their desktop stuff is phenomenal though.

Thirdly, 8gb of ram is fine, but keep in mind you may want to upgrade a few months to a year down the line (installing RAM is super easy, just YouTube it)

Fourthly, an SSD is really nice for gaming (vs an HDD). Alot of the laptops you look at will have 128gb of SSD + 1TB of HDD. While that will help your machine boot quickly (windows will be installed on the faster SSD) there is not enough room on that boot drive for many games, so you'll most likely be putting them on the HDD which will cause slower load times. I'd rather have 256gb of SSD alone than 128gb of SSD + 1TB of HDD. You can always upgrade your SSD later though and can get a fairly decent 1TB one for $100 or so (not quite as easy as RAM usually but still pretty easy, and there should be plenty of YouTube videos on that as well)

Fifthly do not worry about getting a 4k screen or whatever, there are no laptops than can utilize 4k to it's fullest on any games more recent than 2012, and those are beastly machines.

60hz screen is perfectly fine when you're on a budget, but 144hz is always nice to have if you're machine can handle it.

I can't think of anything else...

Edit:. This would be a good option:

Edit 2: this one as well, I had almost this exact laptop, but mine had an i7 and 16gb of RAM, I traded it in only because it wasn't powerful enough for the intensive 3d modelling I do for work. Really nice build quality and a super nice keyboard: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CD3MRZD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_SvonDbMNHQR00
