I actually already asked this question to /r/pcgaming and got some excellent feedback.

I ended up purchasing a 1440p 60hz monitor for the resolution later that day, and just picked up a 1080p 144hz recently, so I have the advantage of playing with both of them side by side to give you an accurate insight.

The 1440p has much higher color quality and makes games look ridiculously beautiful. The fact that you're at 2k 1440p means you really don't need much, if any AA to get smooth models. The desktop work space is very nice to have outside of gaming, especially if you work on editing video or do graphics design. This thing is BRIGHT. I had to turn the brightness almost all the way down just to keep it at a comfortable level, especially at night.

What I've noticed with my 1440p is if you're running a rig with a 970 or a card of equivalent or lesser performance, playing 2k 1440p resolution with ultra settings will yield framerates under 60 in most AAA games.

It also is a double loss in performance because the games you do have that pump out over 100 fps tear badly on 60 hz monitors. The lack of consistency in frames per second in general is noticeable enough to degrade the entire gaming experience. This can be somewhat fixed by enabling vertical sync, but it doesn't work well in every game, causes input lag sometimes, and from what I've observed it's there just to do what it can.

In a nutshell, 1440p didn't match up with my system's performance output at all. I had to actually turn down games in order to get a substantial, fluid frame rate. And even then, it was still capped at 60 fps max. I even overclocked my monitor to 75hz, and it looked worse even though it read 75 fps in-game. And turning down the game's resolution to 1080p on the 1440p monitor obviously didn't look good at all.

The 1080p 144hz monitor isn't as great in the color and clarity department on the desktop (in-game there is a smaller, noticeable difference, however it is not a deal-breaker), but holy cow when I first connected it, the difference was night and day. The game was so much more fluid and played more "live" if that makes any sense. Every single game looked and played like it felt like it was supposed to, some even better.

I wanted to cry when I first played CS:GO at 275 fps. It was that beautiful.

In all seriousness though, being at 1080p vs 1440p meant my graphics card could pump out much higher framerates above 60 at ultra settings with AA, where it was having trouble staying in the 50s in Witcher 3 at 1440p with some things such as foliage distance, shadow quality, nvidia hairworks, draw distance, and terrain quality turned down or off completely. I love my 1440p monitor and its resolution, but it just doesn't do well for gaming on this rig.

And the biggest difference? I was actually able to SEE the frames at 100+ fps. I play games exclusively on my 144hz monitor now while the 1440p is great for a second monitor with a large desktop workspace.

At 1080p@144hz, you will get higher and much more consistent, fluid frame rates that won't screen tear at higher ultra with AA. Games look so much better, I cannot stress that enough. OR at 1440p you'll get lower frame rates at lower graphics settings at the cost of a higher resolution, and will have bad screen tearing in games pumping out over 100 fps, forcing you to enable vertical sync.

After playing with both of them for many hours, if I had to go back and pick one, I'd pick the 1080p 144hz hands down. Actually if I could have an extra $1200+ to throw down, I'd pick up a 1080 pascal and a 1440p@144hz monitor.

TL;DR Don't get a 1440p unless you have the rig to back it up. If you want to push 1440p for gaming, you'll need a rig running a 980/i5 or better, and a 1440p monitor with 144hz to get the minimum performance necessary for games to look as good as you paid to play them at that quality. Otherwise, go 1080p@144hz.

The stands:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C5H5DN0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My wife doesn't notice difference between 60 and 144 FPS and doesn't play shooters so for her we went with a less expensive option that had a lower refresh rate/response time. The speakers are a little quieter too, and they don't have display ports (her aging GPU only has HDMI ports anyway). If you can spare the extra money per monitor I would HIGHLY recommend the VG248QEs. I've had these for about two or three years now and they've been a dream. Reliable, beautiful picture quality, speakers are loud af. I use display port cables on each and then I have my Switch hooked up to the right monitor with an HDMI. When it's time for me to play Smash with my buddies in discord, I just push a button and it flips right over for Switch time.

Couldn't recommend the stand enough either, things incredibly sturdy and well constructed. I've had it for as long as the monitors and purchased it again when buying my wife's monitors this week.

I have a 144hz Asus monitor and a IPS Dell Monitor.

After using calibration profiles for both, the IPS easily has better color depth, accuracy, viewing angles, and etc.

HOWEVER, the monitor I ended up using more is the Asus, because I play competitive CS. Actions feel much more responsive and fluid even on 64 tick servers, but much more-so on 120 tick+ servers. I play on the lowest settings, and on high digital vibrance, so the IPS beautiful screen is useless.

Any game that couldn't utilize the 144 hz, was a bummer to play on the Asus. Even after calibration, the colors felt over-saturated and or washed-out. I don't know much about color accuracy or what-not, but the IPS definitely looked better on games, movies and and even browsing.

Depending on what your doing, could highly influence which monitor type is better, but I think 9/10 if cost isn't an issue, the IPS is a better choice. And, if money still isn't an issue, and you want the best of both worlds, those overclocking IPS monitors from Korea is always an option.

An ASUS VG Series 24"

I'm running lightboost on it. its amazing!

Edit: I want to let everyone know that lightboost isn't nVidia exclusive. I'm using with my r9 280!

u/Insert_a_User_here · 24 pointsr/buildapc

Nice Build. His budget was around 1100, so he might be happier if he stepped up the monitor a level or two. Maybe go for a 24inch 144hz monitor if he primarily plays first person shooters. This would be a good example:

https://www.amazon.com/VG248QE-1920x1080-144Hz-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1478271530&sr=1-3&keywords=144hz+monitor

Or, if OP isn't into playing FPS games then he could get a decent 2560x1440 monitor instead such as this:

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-G257HU-smidpx-25-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B00QS0AKVK/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1478271680&sr=1-1&keywords=2560x1440

Either one puts the total a little over the 1100 budget, but the difference would be very very noticeable, and OP would get a true feeling of PCMR

u/ABearDrinkingScotch · 16 pointsr/gaming

My monitor has four built in crosshair overlays that pair to your mouse cursor position. It's pretty much cheating.

u/edurodenas · 15 pointsr/buildapc

GTX 1080 is definitely going to overkill this 1080p 60Hz monitor. I would either get the GTX 1070 and a 1080p 144Hz monitor like this one or keep the GTX 1080 and get a 1440p 144Hz monitor like this one

u/munkyadrian · 11 pointsr/gamingpc

I'm using that one 144Hz asus monitor right now, with the Lightboost Hack, and its life changing

You need to do a bit of registry editing and fuck around with some icc profiles, but the output is so worth it

u/Vonkilington · 10 pointsr/smashbros

I could be am wrong here, but the deal is that they have insanely low response time. 1ms.

It's not just BenQ monitors, my Asus VG248QE also has 1ms response time. BenQ is smart about getting into the esports scene early and sponsoring, so their name is very recognizable for gamers.

Note that a lot of the expense of my personal monitor choice comes from the fact that it's 144hz. Total overkill for Smash, but feels much better for games that actually support it (CSGO, Overwatch, etc).

One last anecdote, I switched from a 60hz 5ms response time to my 144hz 1ms response time and the difference was immediate and noticable. Colors are more washed out on the faster monitor but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

u/herobryane · 9 pointsr/buildapc

It depends on what your preferences are on bow you like to experience games. Both comments so far have the two of the best options: a Korean 27" 1440p or a 24" 1080 that runs at 144hz. If you enjoy the look of the game more, with arguably better colors, go with the Korean monitor, such as this one; if you enjoy a smoother experience, go with something like the ASUS VG248QE or the BenQ XL2420TE (If you're partial to FPS games, this is the better choice IMO).

The ergotron arms are an absolute dream. If need be I can easily adjust them to a horizontal or side by side monitor setup. Make sure you have enough of a lip on your desk for the base to clamp onto. My desk is really just a dining room table and it's 3'' lip was just barely enough to secure the stand. If you done have a sufficient lip then be prepared to drill a hole for the alternate mounting method.

nVidia LightBoost 2D is a poorly-advertised feature of many new 120Hz computer monitors, that is normally hard to activate (without using 3D). For relevant information, see LightBoost FAQ and the LightBoost HOWTO.

Apparently, it is profitable for nVidia as evidenced by the posts in this thread. People buy nVidia equipment just to get LightBoost working (since LightBoost is limited to nVidia). You will notice that about 20% of amazon.com customer reviews for the ASUS VG248QE monitor (popular LightBoost monitor) have rave reviews about the LightBoost motion blur elimination. Go check out the rave LightBoost reviews on Amazon.com -- within that webpage, hit Control+F and find "LightBoost" in all the Amazon customer reviews.

For this reason, people have been asking nVidia to make LightBoost an easy feature to turn on/off!

u/ManWithGoldenGun · 6 pointsr/buildapc

The only recommendation I might make is to consider a 144hz monitor. The card you are looking at can handle 4K out of the box.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2HH7G0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Picked this beauty up when I built my rig this past November and it is a killer. Keep in mind the trade off, you won't get a much color saturation on this monitor as you will with most 60hz, but the performance excellent.

Skimping on monitor is like putting tires from a Civic onto a Murcielago. Do yourself a favor, drop another $100 and go big

The acer linked by /u/maddog1994 is really popular for the price. I have this one and it is also really popular. Looks great as well and has an awesome swivel mount built in.

u/swoledier · 6 pointsr/gamingpc

Well, if you're using the 60Hz monitor as your secondary, ie. putting random stuff onto that monitor it's not really that big of a deal.

However, depending on your budget, why not just get best of both worlds?

Pick up a 27" 1440p 120Hz ($317) monitor for general purpose/gaming use and a 24" 1080p 144Hz ($270, link here for hardcore gaming.

If you want to see my write up of the aforementioned 27" 1440p 120Hz monitor for $317, you can click here.

That way you'll have buttery smoothness all the way through.

u/Thaon · 6 pointsr/nvidia

If you're tight on money, no. It's a nice feature to have, but its really just icing on the cake.

Go for a nice medium priced 144/120hz monitor. The frames are still buttery smooth, even without the G-Sync.

The Asus VG248QE and Ben Q version seem to both be decent purchases.

u/trenko · 6 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I have the ASUS VG248QE and its absolutely amazing. The height adjustment and VESA compatibility are also huge pluses. On Amazon the cost is a bit steep, but I got mine on eBay for $150 with the original box and wires.

TN and IPS are panel technologies that affect the perceived colors at different viewing angles. On a bad TN monitor (like my brother's TN monitor he got for ~$80 3 years ago) if you have a single color on your whole screen, even at the optimal viewing position/angle, the color will look different at the top of the screen than at the bottom, significantly so. In practice, that means in a game your screen's colors look "off". Now, if you slide out of that spot upwards or downwards (or somewhat sideways)? Instantly terrible. Colors nearly unrecognizable.

On the other hand, on a good TN, like my brother's VG248QE that he bought a year and a half ago for ~$260? You still have the colors a bit off, and you still get color shifting, but as long as you're sitting in front of it normally it's not "bothersome". I wouldn't watch movies on it from an off angle, or slouched back in my chair, but for gaming it's fine.

IPS, meanwhile, has basically all the viewing angles. Lovely colors as far as the eye can see. Downsides: cost (especially if you also want 144hz) and a little extra latency (5ms VS 1ms on TN, not really noticeable IMHO, but maybe for top-tier twitch FPS players).

The holy grail tends to be IPS + 144hz, which only exists at 1440p for some reason and not 1080p, and costs typically over $500, and until recently was in the $600-$700 range.

Good choices for 144hz 1080p TN panels are ASUS VG248QE and BENQ 2411z. Check for BENQ refurb deals, I got my 2411z refurb from benq.com 2 years ago and i love it, no issues.

and btw 5ms is no big deal, you will not notice, anything under 10ms is definitely acceptable. This video explains everything you need to know: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ER1YV42iqrE You can't trust what manufactures put in the specs, just read reviews and use 3rd party testing results such as https://displaylag.com/display-database/ if you are worried about ghosting

I just got an Asus 24 inch VG248QE and I love it to death. Awesome features and the only 144hz 1ms monitor on the market. It looks incredible, and getting a 60hz monitor would be a waste of those 2 high end video cards if you're getting 100+fps but your monitor only supports 60.

If you're going to get a monitor get one with the best refresh rate (measured in hertz) you can afford. I have 2 different monitors

The 1080 I use has 144hz and I use this for pc gaming as 144hz vs 60hz is a huge difference with kb/m

I use this with my Xbox one X

Id say 60hz is plenty for console gaming and the 4k looks better but on pc the 144hz 1080>60hz 4k.

When I picked these up two years ago 4k 144hz monitors were like 1000$ and didn't want to spend that much for a monitor they may have dropped in price I'm not sure. If you can afford that that's probably you're best option.

Any monitor is more than sufficient to the game on, especially when the average response is 8-5ms. TV's are perhaps the worst since they get as high as 30 or even 40ms.

As for a monitor under $400, I recommend the Asus VG248QE

Anyway, this is what i have had for awhile

Asus is a good brand imo basically you are looking for anything with a really low response time like this one is 1 ms.. I will say that getting cheaper faster monitor means that you sacrifice on coloring a bit like for me this monitor took some tweaking out of the box but i am happy with it.

Note im not saying this is the best monitor its just the only one I have used and I have enjoyed it.. You could do further research on monitors based off these specs because im sure they have newer models that are better.

But to answer your question, can't go wrong with the ASUS VG248QE

u/scraynes · 3 pointsr/battlestations

Sure. See below.

ASUS VG248QE - This is what I have, because I got it for $188 from Best Buy. Best buy tends to usually have a good deal on this monitor, so keep an eye on that.

The famous BenQ XL2411 - I've heard this is the best 144 on the market. I've never used it per say, but I love the design but it's not worth the extra money(I got my other one for much much cheaper) so I never got to use this.

Acer GN246HL - This is a very low-end 144hz and some people have it, but it doesn't have much with it (adjustments etc).

The Asus one is heavy, so if you use monitor mounts, make sure they're secure.

u/[deleted] · 3 pointsr/Cynicalbrit

I'm not sure which one he personally uses... But if you want a great 120hz+ monitor, I would have to recommend either THIS or THIS, depending on how much you're willing to spend.

You're better off buying this ASUS monitor (link below). Benq monitors cost a decent amount more and this monitor uses the exact same screen as the Benq's do. I have this exact ASUS monitor and have had it for about 4 months. I absolutely love it. When I bought it it was about $200 USD and the price has been fluctuating ever since I did. The lowest I saw it was $195 USD. It's a bit on the higher side atm though, but Benq's are still a bit more. Hope this helps!

Sorry for the long response time. IPS panels have better colors and viewing angles. TN panels on the other hand have higher refresh rates and response times.

You have to pick one or the other at this price range though. I however prefer TN panels because I like the smooth 144hz refresh rates and 1ms response times. You on the other hand might want the better colors.

Note: If you pretty much only play csgo there's no need to get a gsync monitor as those cost much more and gsync is disabled when the game goes above the monitor's refresh rate. Your 1060 will play csgo at well over 144 fps even at 1440p. If you plan on playing "beefier" games at 1440p gsync is recomended.

u/FierceDeityGabe · 3 pointsr/gaming

I'm going to assume you're on a budget otherwise I would recommend something like this as a 144hz monitor will make a way bigger difference than whatever the hell "optimized for esports" is supposed to mean. But I would go for a 24 inch screen regardless as 1080p on anything bigger will look grainy.

u/hwtrend · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Depends on how much you want to fork out for the monitor , but I think a 24" 1080p would be what you will looking for . It's a good PPI ballpark for 1080p , I've used 27" 1080p before and the lack of pixel density gets really annoying overtime , especially while web browsing .

If u're looking for 144hz and Gsync there is this ASUS VG248QE 24" 144hz 1080p TN https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B2HH7G0 , for around $259.99 (I don't know how much it's sold in Crown though) . Don't think there are much options for 24" IPS with high refresh rate though .

I have both an ASUS and BenQ monitor (that I use for my Xbox. Yes, I'm a console peasant at times)

The ASUS is an VG248QE - 144hz, 1920x1080, 1 ms response etcetera. amazon link

The BenQ is an RL2455HM which is only 60hz but that's all I need for console. Everything is similar between the monitors except for refresh rate. link to an XL series monitor

My only complaint about the ASUS is that the menus for adjusting picture can be slightly confusing at first if you haven't used one before. The BenQ I have is NOT the XL series, but from what I have seen the picture menu is very similar between the XL and RL series (which I have) - VERY simple and easy to operate.

Prices are similar on Amazon, with the BenQ being about $20 more - the biggest difference is the menu operation, which is slightly more simple on the BenQ monitors.

Overall - if you want to spend a little extra for a simple menu go with a BenQ XL series, if you don't mind figuring out the menu for a cheaper monitor go with the ASUS.

u/Anti_SeaBear_Circle · 3 pointsr/buildapc

There's some differences between these monitors that are fairly important. The Acer is an IPS monitor, while the BenQ is TN. TN is older technology, but is usually able to boast better response times, which in general is better for gaming. The BenQ you have listed is 2ms response time. The Acer has a response time of 5ms.

However, IPS monitors have way, way better viewing angles, and are better at color reproduction, which generally make things look nicer (and as a personal anecdote, make things seem "brighter").

Basically it's a choice of whether you want the slightly faster response time vs the IPS panel. I have 2 of the Acer monitors, because they have a very small bezel they look good in a dual monitor setup. However, I swapped one out for a 144hz monitor and I'm not going back to 60hz. It's obviously more expensive, but if you're going to drop $500-1000 on a computer, you shouldn't be bottlenecked at the monitor.

u/nikto11 · 3 pointsr/Monitors

Well reviewed one for 1080p, and here is one for $500 that's 144hz/1440p and has Freesync for your AMD card.

u/hotchrisbfries · 3 pointsr/buildapc

I bought an ASUS VG248QE 24-Inch Screen LED-lit Monitor and yes, the colors out of the box are HORRENDOUS. But that can easily be fixed with the right ICC color profile. I found mine with a quick google search. I've never had an IPS panel, so if that is what you're comparing too I can't make any recommendations.

The other really nice thing with 120Hz or 144Hz panels is the almost complete lack of motion blur. LightBoost monitors have a strobe backlight feature that completely eliminate motion blur for 2D; for CRT-quality perfectly sharp fast motion on LCD. Usually this is only for 3D, but you can turn it on with a simple background app. It makes everything from your desktop to gaming incredibly smooth with zero ghosting.

The app I use is here: http://www.blurbusters.com/zero-motion-blur/lightboost/

So unless color accuracy is a huge deal for you (professional photography, video editing, etc..) the advantage to having 120Hz and virtually no motion blur is a big upside for gaming. Not to forget that you can also get Nvidia's G-Sync installation kit, provided that you use an Nvidia card.

edit: currently I run 3 screens, I play games on this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2HH7G0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

GSYNC is expensive, if you have that kind of disposable income do it. As far as 144hz goes, there's no going back from that smoothness.

Honestly, right now the sweet spot is 1440p 144hz ... slowly coming down in price. When it comes down in price this is my next purchase https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-S2716DG-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B0149QBOF0

I wouldn't worry about 4k gaming unless it's a really big importance to you. If you need to upgrade now, 144hz is where it's at. If you can spot some extra cash, 1440p 144hz. GSYNC is pretty amazing though, from my understanding it eliminates tearing and gives the smoothest gameplay possible, something that could be helpful for PUBG as it grows. Hope that helps

I finished my PC build 2 months ago. I just bought this today. I downgraded in size as I was using a 27" 1080p 60hz 6ms monitor and honestly I turn my head sometimes when gaming with FPS. It's $40 cheaper minus tax which is about $15. IMO get this one and don't make the same mistake I did. I only bought my monitor since I was in a rush in grabbing a monitor and it was open box which cost me $180.

u/bradd93 · 3 pointsr/buildapc

You are going to need to choose between ips and 120hz at that price range. Dell makes some great ips panels like this one. Otherwise you can look at a TN panel for faster refresh rates. I know this asus is highly recommended on here. Either are great options around your price range. Read up on reviews and just pick one. Good Luck!

It depends what games you play. If you play FPS, I would recommend a mouse that has 500-1000 Polling rate. Polling rate is basically the delay between your mice and monitor. This delay is measured in milliseconds. Resources: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mouse_Polling_Rate
https://www.google.com/#q=what+is+polling+rate

If you are worrying about DPI, it is just a measurement of sensitivity the mice has.
DPI: Dots per inch

I would recommend there being the smallest delay between your mouse and monitor in FPS games.

In a scientific point of view, when you move your mouse with 250 polling rate, it will take 4 ms (milliseconds) to input that into your computer. This delay may limit your actual ability to aim by, essentially, four milliseconds.
Not only that, right after your mouse sends this input, now your monitor has to refresh and display this input for you. Low response time monitors help greatly to this because it simply lowers the delay.
My mouse @ 400 DPI and 1000 polling rate with Razer Synapse 2.0: http://www.amazon.com/Razer-DeathAdder-Ergonomic-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00AAS888S/
My monitor @ 144 Hz 1ms: http://www.amazon.com/VG248QE-24-Inch-Screen-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395300419&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+vg248qe

Get the Asus VG248QE.

I'm not 100% if it's within your budget of 300 € since I'm just using Google's USD to Euro converter.

Also G-Sync/Free Sync doesn't really do anything other than dynamically change the refresh rate of the monitor and gets rid of screen tearing.

u/Asianhacker1 · 3 pointsr/GlobalOffensive

get a 144hz if you: can afford it, get easily above 144 fps in cs. The difference is significantly smoother and well worth it (you can see the difference just by dragging your mouse across the desktop). I recommend this one by asus. Good color and one of the cheaper ones out there.

u/KuroWTF · 3 pointsr/buildapc

freesync adds little to no cost to the monitor, unlike gsync, in fact, theres a good $200 freesync 144hz monitor (here) and then theres this one without freesync or gsync, but pretty much everything else is the same for $250 (here)

Well I'm assuming you're looking for something that won't break the bank and if you want IPS for a good price you have to go with 60hz. Here's an example of a solid 60hz IPS monitor: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008DWITHI/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1482599707&sr=8-8&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=ips+monitor&dpPl=1&dpID=41zbBpH7xYL&ref=plSrch

But I'm flexible on both conditions given the right monitor.

Monitors I was looking at:

ASUS VS239H-P

ASUS VG248QE

The second one is more expensive, but has better refresh rate, response time, and contrast ratio, but has a TN panel instead of an IPS. Thoughts? Any others to consider?

Most of the gaming monitors now have gone from 120Hz to 144Hz, and they are not cheap. Your 2 best options are probably:

Asus VG248QE

BenQ XL2430T

u/Anrikay · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Sorry, just edited the album to include them. Both of them are 1920x1080 TN panels.

Center monitor: Asus VG248QE 24" 144Hz monitor. I bought this monitor because it's 144Hz, 3D-vision ready, and Asus so it would match my other monitors. I give it an 8/10.

Pros: I got it at $220, eye strain is significantly reduced due to the 144Hz refresh rate, I can finally watch my 3D movies, and the backplate is at the same height as the other monitors so monitor stands work.

Cons: my only real con is the color reproduction. When in 2D, colors can be a bit washed out and there's only so far calibration can take you. In 3D, on the other hand, it looks fantastic so I accept the trade-off.

Peripheral Monitors: Asus VS247H-P 23.6" 60Hz monitor. These monitors are used for nVidia Surround and extra documents. For example, I'll do |Spotify & browser|works cited & research paper|browser & browser|. Since I mainly do work on the center, I didn't need 120/144Hz. This gets a 9/10.

Pros: response time is suitable for gaming. Color reproduction is some of the best I've seen in a TN panel. I bought the two monitors three years apart and noticed zero color degradation. At $150, the price/performance ratio is almost unreal.

Cons: The included stand is garbage, very few ways to adjust it. If you want more than one monitor, I'd recommend just getting a monitor stand. But this being my only complaint should tell you how good I think it is.

TL;DR: I love all of my monitors. I would recommend the VS247H-P to anyone. The VG248QE isn't for everyone, so I recommend that only if you want 3D. There are better looking 144Hz monitors without 3D.

I just recieved my Asus VG248qe and I'd highly recommend it.
144hz 1ms 24inch" 1080p

I got mine used off of amazon warehouse for $220. The box had a dent as described in the description, besides that it works beautifully. I had been waiting for a 144hz monitor to go on sale, got impatient and ordered it once I saw it was a prime eligible product. I figured I'd test it out and if anything was wrong with it, then I'd just return it.. But so far no problems.

u/Zizuirl · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Depends on your budget, really. In my opinion everybody should use Asus's 144hz monitor. Though 3 of them would be expensive.

u/blzed · 2 pointsr/pcgaming

What do you consider cheap?

For what you're looking for there's two options: Cheap or High Quality. And you probably won't find a 120Hz monitor for under $230.

I have the Asus VG248QE and am very pleased with it.

u/gooseta · 2 pointsr/buildapc

> great color, low response time

These two don't really come together in any monitors, and if you want 144hz you'll need to sacrifice doing any editing on it. However watching movies etc won't be a problem I don't think. Also don't know why you want to run a 1080p panel with a $550 gpu, but whatever

this will be fine

I used to play WoW on a 2013 15 macbook pro till 2 weeks ago.

I bought a new desktop from a friend. Really powerful to me.

  • Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5/3.9Ghz
  • 16GB RAM DDR4 3000Mhz Vengeance
  • EVGA GTX 1070 8GB
  • SSD 480GB Corsair Force LE
  • And Watercooling (even if not overclocked, as I don't know yet how it works)

Now that is amazing, it is like I play a new game. (Going from 12-25fps to 90+, and I think WoW is limiting to 100 by default. Anyway).

    ------------------------------------

My problem is I borrowed his monitor. From what I see, it is a ASUS VS228H-P 21.5" Full HD 1920x1080

And for those who played WoW, it feels "smaller". My knowledge of screens is limited, but I think when I run WoW on the macbook, the resolution is 2880x1800. I feel I can't go to a smaller resolution.

Another friend told me "if you are gonna do gaming, you need this monitor". But all I can see is the same "1920x1080" resolution.

    -------------------------------

What is the advice from this community for a good compromise?

  • I am looking for a 27'' screen.
  • I've heard of 4k. By browsing here and there I found this one which is definitely high end budget to me. People said that under 32'', everything feels "tiny".
  • In a 1st time I'm gonna play WoW on it, then I'll do more adventure games like the Witcher, Tomb Raider, Skyrim, etc. Anything that will be release and be awesome on the "adventure" side. I do not plan to do any MOBA or FPS, I'm too old for this :) My aim is just to play and have fun, not going to the competitive side of games, just enjoying chilling adventure games that I missed by having a mac.

    ---------------------------------

I start to feel overwhelm by browsing topics I am not familiar with yet (remember, I come from a all-in-one macbook). I need enlightenment, I plan to buy a new monitor around black Friday (in sale or not, $200 would be preferable, definitely under $400). If you guys have heard of a similar situation, and could tell me something like "Yeah I have a similar story and went with this monitor XXX, I highly recommend this to you, {you don't need 4k, you need 4k}, the fps above 60 {matters, not matters} for what you seek for, the price is just {$250, $450 but really really worth it, $350 right in your range!}"
u/GonthorianDX · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I do not recommend getting a 4K monitor that is only 24-inch, 1080p is perfect for that size.
Instead go for a 1080p @60hz IPS panel or go for a 1080p @144hz TN panel for the same price range. Here is a 1080p @144hz monitor that is really good: https://www.amazon.com/VG248QE-1920x1080-144Hz-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0

As for the PC, DO NOT GET NORTON, do yourself a favor and stay away from that as far as you possibly can.
If you are looking for proper Security software, get this one instead: https://www.amazon.com/ESET-SMART-Security-3U-2016/dp/B01723PG10

And while you are at it you might aswell include: https://www.amazon.com/ESET-NOD32-Antivirus-3U-2016/dp/B01723PFFW/

As for the pheriperals, either get a 10$ keyboard or get a good mechanical one such as the Corsair RGB Strafe.
The same goes for the mouse, get a cheap piece of crap or go for a proper gaming mouse. Do NOT take the middle-ground pheriperals.

u/MildLife · 2 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

Thanks, I really want something to last me a while. This is the one that caught my attention based on reviews but the chance of it going on sale seems unlikely :(

u/DetroOps · 2 pointsr/PcMasterRaceBuilds
  • Yes, your video card will support dual monitors.
  • I have 2 24" monitors currently, the only thing about the size of the monitors is will they fit, mine barely fit but it works. If you're going 1080p, get 144hz and take advantage of that GPU. I recommend this
  • That 1440p monitor seems fine, I don't know anything about it, just make sure to check reviews.

If you're planning on playing FPS games like CSGO or BF1 I recommend getting the 1080p 144hz monitors because of the faster refresh rate, though if you're playing games like Witcher 3, Skyrim, Fallout 4, games that don't have fast paced multiplayer where every frame counts, I'd say get the 1440p monitor. That's just my .02

u/Mr_Plakton · 2 pointsr/Competitiveoverwatch

Looks alright. I wouldn't reccomend Ryzen chips. I would probably get something more like an i7 6700k or the 6700 (which is around $20 cheaper if you can't justify the price) for gaming. If you end up choosing an Intel CPU you'll have to choose a different Mobo as well but there are lots of good ones.

I'd reccomend getting an entry level 144Hz Screen. If you can stretch to something like this I would seriously reccomend it, though it's not going to hurt you if you don't. I think it was Jake from LG Evil that made T500 early in the game on a Mac Book running OW in wine.

I personally don't like any gaming Headsets other than the HyperX Clouds. There is a huge quality difference between them and any other "gaming" headsets I have used.

As far as mice and keyboards, I would probably just buy a nice cheap Keyboard to begin with because there are no benefits really to having a good keyboard if you're on a budget. A mouse is kinda personal, I use a Steel Series Rival 100 but am a palm style user and am completely arm aim. It's a good cheap mouse but you may want something else if your grip style is different. My brother plays claw and doesn't mind it though.

Parts and gear you should prioritise for Overwatch are: Good GPU. 6GB 1060s are plenty for overwatch unless you want to be running the game at consistently over 240FPS (here's Taimou's settings btw. These will help with you configuring your settings for Overwatch). A fast CPU (Overwatch can be very CPU dependant). SSDs are kinda nice and fairly cheap. If you have a SSD btw you're at a direct benefit to most other players because you load in matches faster and can therefore instalock first, if that's your thing. :P Monitors are the most important peripheral by far in my opinion, followed closely by mice. If you're not getting a 144Hz screen now, you'll want one eventually (you won't need one but you'll want one). The only other peripheral that is important for Overwatch specifically is a mouse. This is one of those what suits your style things and there's no real correct answer but for First Person Shooters you usually want a nice light fast mouse. Ideally with 2 buttons on the side of the mouse for binding melee and voice. Just don't get a Razer and you'll be fine.

I'd probably ask on /r/buildapc as well because they'll probably give you better advice than this sub will. Best of luck dude with your transition to PC. Hope this helps.

Edit: oh and Mousepad! In the beginning I'd reccomend a nice control style mouse pad for getting used to using a mouse for aiming. I can't reccomend you any though because I have always used the mats that come in WoW TCG boxes since a family member has heaps of them and I've never used any other control style mats. The bigger the better.

u/Not_enough_yuri · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Well there's this. I can't imagine that it's too bad a choice. Nonetheless I strongly recommend going over budget and getting this Asus monitor. I'd much rather fork over an extra $70 for a notoriously well built product than risk getting a monitor that is known for having manufacturing defects. Whatever you do, make sure you look up a monitor recalibration guide once you get it. Less expensive TN monitors don't have great color out of the box, but you can make them look pretty fantastic with some manual adjustment. Good luck!

> I'm using an R9 280x

You've got a few options:

  • single 1080p 120/144Hz
  • triple 1080p 60Hz
  • single 1440p 60Hz

Now, you also don't want anything over 24" and you don't want to spend more than 400€ (551,60$). So I'd probably go with the first option...a single 1080p 120/144Hz. You probably won't saturate that monitor but that's ok because then you won't have any frame tearing issues. You'd be looking at around 60fps for Crysis 3 on high settings, and you're pushing 100fps for BF3 on ultra. So you would be able to take advantage of a 120/144Hz monitor.

    >And is there such a big difference between 60Hz and 120/144

Yes. It's going to look a lot smoother the higher the frame rate, so if you're playing something like Civ V you probably won't notice a difference at all, while something like BF3 or CounterStrike where there's a lot of movement and fast paced things going on you'll be able to see it.

This monitor looks like it fits the bill nicely. It's 24" 144Hz 1080p and comes in at $280. Sorry that it's an Amazon link, but you can just take the model and search it on whatever site that you want to and it'll probably be pretty close in price.

If you want other monitors that you don't want to game on, I'd suggest you just go with a 1080p 60Hz monitor since you won't be utilizing the speed. Something like this. 24" 1080p 60Hz at $180.

Unless you're planning on triple monitor gaming, or if you're a productivity guru you probably don't need a third screen. If you do want three screens I'd get three of the 1080p 60Hz one since you probably won't be able to take advantage of three 120/144Hz monitors with a single 280x.
u/SinnermightyBL · 2 pointsr/PS4

Go for this instead: ASUS VG248QE

Much better monitor. It will also be the first monitor ever to support G-Sync if you decide to mod your monitor later in the year with a DIY kit Nvidia will be selling.

Edit: Cheaper by $20 but a 3-6 week delay (backordered I suppose).

Edit 2: G-Sync information Basically G-Sync will eliminate screen tearing and stuttering from fixed monitor refresh rates by making them variable. When games go from 60 to 45 to 50 to 40 to 60 you will notice stuttering significantly, not so with G-Sync (as examples from the demos). I'm just rambling here, since it won't affect PS4 (requires a Nvidia GPU & DisplayPort connection), or photo editing but it is a nice note to pick up on for people looking to buy new monitors and do some PC gaming :)

This monitor is still much better than the one you linked, 80,000,000:1 Contrast Ratio to 10,000,000:1, which I assume is a big factor for photo editing (I'm terrible at judging photos).

Edit 3: Would also suggest the QNIX QX2710 monitor for you, though it is more expensive. Is an IPS panel monitor, multiple connections for HDMI (PS4), 27" 1440p for PC (DisplayPort, DVI Dual-link) that I posted in response to /u/comicidiot.

Sorry to be a party pooper, this game uses the exact center of the screen for the point of impact (just like 99% of other 3rd person shooters) and people have learned a simple "trick" to help with target acquisition. This "trick" is to put a red dot on the TV or monitor with sharpie, shit there are products you can buy and **monitors with BUILT IN CROSSHAIR OVERLAYS that are hotkeyed and hardware side so the games (and recorded video) cant prevent them and they don't show when recorded.

I'm definitely not an expert in this subject, but I do know that this laptop is worth at the very least $350 in poor condition but no more than $650. The RAM alone costs around $70 (assuming DDR2). At those kind of prices, you could get one maybe two 24-inch 144Hz monitors.

u/MPCExtant · 2 pointsr/GlobalOffensive

The BenQ you're looking at is 75 Hz, not 120/144 Hz. I personally have the BenQ XL2420Z and I love it.

The ASUS VG248QE is a pretty popular gaming monitor. It was selling for $220 a week or two ago, it's gone up but it's just above your budget. Not sure if you're willing to stretch it a bit. So if you're willing to wait for a sale, you might catch a better price.

As for mice, I use the Razer Deathadder2013, and that's a little large. I used to use the Logitech G502 but it was a little too small for me. But it does have the thumb grip/rest you were looking for and the weight is adjustable.

People here are recommending the Zowie FK1 which is really popular amongst the community right now. If you're hands are small, the FK2 is coming out soon (not sure when), and it will be slightly smaller. But these have no thumb rest.

Side note: If you decide to go for the ASUS monitor, this will help you with the color calibration. These fast response time monitors usually have shitty stock color calibrations.

There's a lot of posts. They try, but a lot of the same questions get asked over and over, and a little bit of searching can clear those up (try the pcpartpicker.com criteria, the Newegg listing, and the andandtech review. If none of those answer your question, search previously asked questions in the sub. Then, and only then, post.) I know when I was really active there (different account) for every post worthy of a response there were 3 that were asking a question that had been on top of the sub in the past week alone.

I checked out yours. Go use pcpartpicker, and it'll do it for you automatically. Most people don't respond to things that can be done better by robots, and that's life.

Also, with that level of a build, get a 144hz or something, that monitor is going to be the weakest part.

Why does that monitor cost so much more than the 24" Asus 144 hz monitor? Is it because it's LED instead of LCD, and why is it so much better for that much price?

I have a ASUS VG248QE. It costs $244 on Amazon.

It's an old monitor by now but it should still fullfill your needs. It has built-in speakers too.

You might need to install a color profile since the colors can look a bit washed out. Luckily you can find a simple guide on the internet.

EDIT: If you plan to ever use the built-in speakers I suggest a DisplayPort cable as my speakers would make static noise when using a DVI cable.

For gaming, the monitor looks good. Here is a review.

If you have an AMD card and you want a 24" monitor this one is better.

I don't have this monitor, but I personally like Asus monitors because they usually can get pretty tall so I don't need a monitor stand. I have the PB277Q and it looks nice, performs well and I have not had any issues with it in the year I have had it.

This depends, the 24" with have a higher PPI by about 10 (not that big of a deal really) and the 27" will be larger. Personaly I would get the 27" if they are the same price like they are on Amazon.

You'll have to look at these monitors for compatibility with Vesa mounts and stuff.

As far as Ultrawides go, that is a bit trickier, you might want to either stretch the budget, or cut into the $600 for the 144hz a bit to get both. I'll post suggestions anyway.

Crazy territory here, but this Acer has 75hz, 1440p, ips, freesync and a slick design, but its expensive as hell:
http://www.amazon.com/Acer-XR341CK-bmijpphz-34-inch-UltraWide/dp/B0111MRT90/ref=sr_1_15?tag=amazon0606-20&s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1436945804&sr=1-15&keywords=3440x1440

And a slightly cheaper but still pricey 1440p ips ultrawide from LG:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824025066&cm_re=1440p_ultrawide-_-24-025-066-_-Product

Look through, find some you like that both fit into your $1200 overall budget, make sure they would fit on a mount, find a mount, and go.

It's not necessarily hi-res, but I'm super happy with my ASUS VG248QE's. Instead of something widescreen you could go with a dual monitor setup (I've got triple monitors).

I recommend them a log on this sub, but they're definitely worth it.

u/Zsilfen · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Are you planning on overclocking? If so a 120mm or even 240mm rad will be pretty nice. And this monitor is a little cheaper, and I have heard great things about it: http://www.amazon.com/VG248QE-24-inch-LED-lit-Monitor-response/dp/B00B2HH7G0/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1415390885&sr=1-2&keywords=Asus

Hey everyone. I'm heavily torn between two very similar monitor models, the ASUS VG248QE and the AOC G2460PQU. Spec-wise they seem identical, but the AOC seems to be a year newer and perhaps better.

Any experiences out there to recommend for or against either?

u/strawnks · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Just a heads up, as someone that has played a lot of CS:GO that monitor is not great for it. I did not personally own the monitor, but a friend of mine did and I tired it quite a few times. It has nice colors but if your friend is looking for price to performance I recommend something like this https://www.amazon.com/VG248QE-1920x1080-144Hz-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496419320&sr=8-1&keywords=144+hz+1+ms This is the monitor I own and is a bit cheaper too if I am not mistaken. (Again you do lose some of the prettiness of the picture...)
Just checked it is no longer more expensive (It was a while back)

It will make a difference for sure. You will still have more input lag than you would on a PC and Monitor, but not as much as you do with a TV.

I have this monitor and I would recommend it if your looking for 120hz+

  1. No.
  2. As long as your monitor is 1080p@144Hz or 1440p@60Hz, you should be able to achieve that with most games. Remember: FPS is the number of frames your GPU can push out. Refresh rate (Hz) is the number of frames your monitor can actually display.
  3. The B450 platform is aimed at Ryzen 2.
  4. Ryzen favors faster clock speeds. Your ram should be fine*.
  5. Mini-sized cards are typically meant for smaller form factor builds. Just understand that you may be sacrificing lower temps for the smaller card size. Also note that your case can support a longer card.
  6. This might be a good option for you.
  7. I'd swap that Razer keyboard for almost anything else; Razer's weakness is not their hardware, but their god-awful software.

It's the 1060. It's excellent for 1080p/60fps for "AAA" games (by that I really just mean games with demanding graphics) and 1080p/144fps for less demanding games (Overwatch, CSGO, etc.).

For reference, this is what I picked to pair with mine.

Now again, the monitor you picked can absolutely make sense if you don't plan on waiting too long before upgrading your GPU. Because until then, you just won't be able to make the most out of that monitor with just a 1060 (unless you spend most of your time playing CSGO really seriously. That'd be a case where it would make sense as well).

u/SmartPotato1 · 2 pointsr/FortNiteBR

I hate for this to go over budget, but memory is really expensive nowadays, 32GB costs $150. Max settings at 1080p on WoW with this build will easily be at an average 75-80 FPS. For monitor, I would recommend this Asus 144hz 1ms monitor to go with it.

I just bougth this guy and so far I'm amazingly happy with it. The response time makes more of a difference to me than I expected coming from a TV. My PS4 can't use the 144hz refresh rate, but that mode makes the screen dimmer anyways for some reason, so it's fine for me.

I somehow missed those BenQ monitors in my research before buying mine. They would have definitely been frontrunners beforehand.

As to your questions the widescreen shouldn't look stretched on the 27" as the aspect ratio should still be the same. Viewing distance is a factor when choosing screen sizes really. If you're sitting close to the monitor the 24" might be more comfortable on the eyes.

u/Exactually · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask but I need some building advice. I'll be building a mITX machine for VR development in a couple of weeks and am upgrading my setup to support it. My budget is $1500. Should I get a 24" Asus VG248QE G-sync monitor or should I use the funds to make the build better? My current monitor is a 27" Hanns G

I'm also curious about my power supply. I have a CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-650TX and was wondering if I should get a new modular PSU with 750W or stick with what I have?

u/sketchyy_ · 2 pointsr/GlobalAgenda2

Hi Voldis, I've been a really long time CS player and was globally elitest so I can def. give some advice.

144 hz monitors are hella good and you'll notice a huge performance increase if you are gaming with more than 200FPS. The way that this works is that you can have up to 144frames in a period of one second, so compared to the 60 you normally see on monitors, you'll instead see 144. This makes a really big difference with transitions and movements, as they will look smoother and you will be less likely to see tearing. I think this is a pretty good reference https://pcmonitors.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Refresh-rate-comparison.png

unrelated snippet about refresh rates and FPS

You can look at refresh rates and FPS as two different entities. FPS is juts however many frames a second that you're getting, and the refresh rate is locked in at whatever the monitor allows. If two things are out of sync, ie the FPS "updates" at the 20ms mark, and the monitor updates at the 22ms mark, the monitor will display the frame from the 20ms mark, as it is the most up to date info. It's because of this that the 144hz/refresh monitor results in smoother transitions. Instead of only 60 updates, you'll get 144. To make this even more accurate, gsync was developed to ensure that the FPS refreshes at the exact same time as the monitor, so your screen will always give you the most recent information at a refresh point (22ms and 22ms instead of 20ms and 22ms)

end snippet

I personally recommend the http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VG248QE-24-inch-Ergonomic-Back-lit/dp/B00B2HH7G0/ although if all you care about are visuals, invest in an IPS. It isn't essential to have a 120/144hz, although it makes the whole CS:GO experience much more enjoyable.

Bunny hopping is something that just takes time to learn, but essentially you just need to spam jump right before you hit the ground with a scroll wheel. Through the use of air strafing, by pressing A or D and moving your mouse, you are able to control your momentum in the air and essentially control how fast you go. CS:GO has a hard cap of 300 units I think? after a jump, so by controlling your air strafing and in turn your velocity, you can move even faster than if you have a knife out (250 units.) It requires inhuman precision to maintain a velocity in the 250-300 range for long periods of time, especially on bumpy surfaces, which is why you don't see the pros bhop across the map.

About settings... everyone has their own preference and I think it really is unfair to say there is anything "best." Preferred resolution will vary from player to player, but all that matters is that you keep the same settings. Even if you start playing on tilt and doing really bad, you need to keep using the same settings. It'll make you a better player in the long run. If you really think you want to use a new resolution, do whatever, but try to stick with the same settings (like sensitivity and stuff.)

Gonna dump on some opinions here. Bhopping is insanely effective and can give you a slight edge over opponents. The half a second you save getting to garage on Nuke can result in you winning a 1v1. Learning smokes and flashes is an important thing, although its probably a better investment to focus on learning rotations. If you are able to get a good feeling for where other players should be, then keep track of where they actually are, and combine both of those with intel gained from your teammates positions, specifically where they can't be, you can probably out maneuver/play/position your opponents. Knowing where enemies are is a key component in winning as it will allow you to place yourself in a better position (ie if you know they are coming from B tuns on dust 2 to defuse your bomb in B, you can wait outside of the site to waste time.)

Definitely learn nades though, they're important (I still don't know them.) A good basic popflash to just practice is to throw it with right click and then walk over it. By doing so, you will force the enemy to look away and you won't get blinded by them. Pretty neat.

Another general tip is to just learn maps. If you can pre aim where people are going to be, you will have an advantage. Its much easier to mash WASD than it is to move your mouse. You'll also get called a cheater a lot which is pretty fun.

The way that tick rates work on server is that there are essentially a higher number of updates. So on a 64 tick server there are 64 updates a second, while in a 128 tick server there are 128 updates a second. It makes for a huge difference, although if you are below Badge (old LEM), then you probably won't really notice when it actually is a problem. Tick rates have nothing to do with refresh rates.

I would offer to help in game but I'm too busy to play really, although I don't mind explaining CSGO mechanics in depth. pls lmk if you have questions, I enjoy helping people get better at this, objectively, #1 FPS.

Also, watching streams really doesn't make you better after a certain point. You can use them to learn how to play counter-strike, but you can't use them to git guud because everyone plays differently. Watching someone else play may provide ideas, but at the end of the day CS:GO should be about having fun and playing in whatever way makes you happy.

sorry for long post,
tl;dr play csgo git guud

I have a 1060 also. I did a ton of research on 144hz monitors and there's a lot of conflicting information out there. What I summarized was that almost any of them are going to be good enough for this type of application (OW, general gaming). If you're building some military grade super computer and need very specific performance out of your monitor then spending 700+ for the "perfect" monitor is probably worth it.

I ended up getting https://www.amazon.com/VG248QE-1920x1080-144Hz-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0 It was at bestbuy at the time and on sale so I was content with that.

My only complaint was that it is a TN monitor and my 60hz that I was already using was an IPS. The IPS has better color than a TN and the TN generally feels darker and kind of feels like the colors bleed. I found this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/3c8fpi/the_old_thread_for_just_bought_a_glorious_asus/ and it helped me with some color correction tweaks that made the colors much, much better. Damn near the same as my IPS monitor. I took it a step further since that 1060 includes a vibrance slider in the nvidia tool. That vibrance adjustment helped a metric ass ton in making the colors look better.

If you have the money it might be worth springing for a 144hz IPS monitor from the get go. But if not this could be a viable option for you. Or if you're not accustom to IPS monitors then you won't notice any real difference between color anyway so it likely won't bother you. You may still tweak with the default settings anyway. Especially for the game. Everything kind of felt dark and washed out with the default settings to me. But again, that's after comparing it to an IPS monitor.

The ryzen 7 would work well for video editing, and is good for gaming. If the focus is mostly on gaming, then it could be replaced with an i7-7700K, where it is the other way around. But both are a bit over budget... the overclockable i5 is not a bad alternative though.

Otherwise this has a GTX 1070 as powerful 144Hz capable gpu, and 16GB of fast ram. Moved the case to a cheaper alternative to stay in budget. Since some parts are expensive on amazon, this mixes amazon with caseking. You might want to buy locally though, shipping it could be expensive.

I'm in the market for a 144hz monitor, what is it like switching from flat to curve screen. Also how is this one compared to the Asus 24" 144hz. Sorry I don't have a link I'm on mobile.

More FPS = Better. Most pros use a 144hz monitor. Here is the monitor I use: https://www.amazon.com/VG248QE-1920x1080-144Hz-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0
I can't think of anything wrong with the one I have. Most 144hz monitors are very similar. Monitors with Gsync are good because it lets you use Vsync with a smaller amount of input lag. (If and only if you are using a graphics card that will work with it, pretty much all cards except AMD or laptop Nvidia cards will work). But keep in mind that you probably dont want to use Gsync for this game anyways because any input lag is too much input lag.

If your budget and computer can handle it, this is probably the best monitor money can buy: http://zowie.benq.com/en/product/monitor/xl/xl2540.html

u/BTBricktop · 2 pointsr/joinsquad

With your graphics card you probably want to stick to 1080p :). A huge TV will get low FPS and screen tearing and most likely a low refresh rate and just all around bad experience. It's a good idea to invest in a monitor.

  1. Yes, huge difference.

  2. No, you don't need it.

  3. You won't see any more or less FPS, but the game will generally feel and play more smoothly.

  4. The refresh rate of your montor won't make you any better or worse. It just makes the game easier on your eyes.

  5. Not that I know of, but I'm sure there are some plenty of great players who play on 60 hz.

  6. Asus makes the cheapest decent quality 144 hz monitor (that I know of) and other companies like BenQ make slightly nicer, but more expensive models. If you don't have a lot of cash and really want a new monitor, you can probably find a cheap or used 120 hz monitor which isn't quite as nice as 144 hz, but is still waaaaaaaayy better than 60 hz.

$100 it looks like. 24'' HERE , and 27'' HERE.

Some people say that 27'' at 1080p is too big; that you can see the pixels. I have to say, I sit no more than 2-3 feet from my monitor and I cannot see a pixel. I love the size, it is the sweet spot for me.

Here's some monitors:

viewsonic xg2401 144hz,1ms gtg response time, 27ms input lag, freesync, currently $294.86 but i've seen it at $249.99

ASUS VG248QE144hz, 1ms gtg response time, 13ms input lag, no adaptive sync, $229.99

BenQXL2411Z 144hz, 1ms gtg response time, 10ms input lag,no adaptive sync, $268.99

Nixeus vue24144hz, 1ms gtg response time, 29ms input lag, $234.99/$249.99 ergonomic stand.

all monitors are 1920x1080(fullhd)

on the matter of freesync, if you can stand screen tear then you don't need it but i can't so i do.

If you're looking for 144hz performance, then the popular VG248QE is the way to go.

Edit: Converted aud to usd and realized that it was a bit too high. You can however go for the GN246HL. Use a promo code like shop15 to save a bit of cash on checkout with jet.

As you said, most people seem to recommend Asus for color or BenQ for function. They were ~$200 when I checked a week or two ago.

Either way, I'm building with the 1070 as well and opting for G-Sync (+$200). I'm used to 1080p and value smoothness more

IPS stands for in plane switching. It's a newer panel technology, as opposed to traditional TN panels(don't actually know what that stands for). Anyway, TN panels are the kind that your laptop or current monitor has, in that if you aren't looking at it dead on, the colors shift and get all weird. IPS panels don't do that, and they have noticeable better color quality.

As for longevity, a 970 will last you a long time at either resolution(years). And in stead of turning down the resolution, you should turn down things like filters and texture quality. You want to run your monitor at it's native resolution regardless.

As for value, if sub $300 is your price range, I suggest a 1080p/144hz monitor, unless you're comfortable buying an overclockable 1440p monitor on ebay(QNIX is the brand). I can't personally recommend that because I have no experience with it, but lots of people around this sub recommend them. You aren't really going to find any major brand IPS 1440p monitors until about $400 or over, so it sounds like a really solid 1080p monitor is the way to go for your budget. Regardless, if you're coming up from 720p/30FPS, you're definitely going to be awe struck by the quality of 1080p.

Hope that helps, good luck! This is the 1080p/144hz monitor I recommend: amazon link to the Asus VG148QE

It's by far the best possible 1080p combo with your 970. It's a G-Sync monitor, which for lack of a desire to get technical is magic nVidia smoke that makes for a simply amazing gaming experience. Trust me, get this monitor.

Asus on Amazon for $279.99

The Asus has rave reviews everywhere and is a fantastic 144hz monitor for the price as well as an awesome 1ms response time.

As for the QNIX, these are much tricker, the prices fluxuate all the time (daily) from $280 to $320. The QNIX QX2710 and X-Star DP2710 are literally the exact same monitor under different branding. Cheapest QX2710 I see currently (by a seller that is well known and I trust) is $319.99. This DP2710 is $279.99 and the seller (Dream-Seller) is very well known and will have your monitor stateside insanely fast from south Korea (2-5 days usually)

The QX2710 is also available on Amazon for $339.99 if you wanted to go that route.

Also things to keep in mind with the QX or DP. Screens come in 3 different finishes; Matte, Glossy, and Tempered Glass. Also the plug will be for non-US sockets, but should come with the adapter.

Here you go. I got a GTX 1060 6GB card in here. You didn't have enough money in your budget to get a GTX 1070 but you also had a bit of extra money (70 pounds) if I went with the GTX 1060 3GB. If you want to save 70 pounds I'd suggest going for the GTX 1060 3GB over the 6GB since the FPS of both cards are very simillar (3-5 FPS loss with the 3GB).

I have two Asus VG248QE, they're both 144hz and 1080p. I usually run games on one screen. The other gets youtube, netflix, reddit, etc. I see absolutely no performance drops at all. I still get 400fps on CSGO. You are most likely fine unless you have a $10 GPU.

u/SkaterxXxBoy · 2 pointsr/buildapc

What GPU do you have? AMD or Nvidia because then you will know if your going with free sync or g sync (make sure to get g sync... if you dont know what it does it stops frame tearing (look it up), and makes the game smoother with less input lag and less stutter. Even though its a bit more expensive, once that warranty runs out, your going to be wishing you didn't go with AOC. Then for your secondary monitor. Your also gonna have to ask yourself do you need it now or can it wait, and do you really need 2 monitors. obviously its gonna take a good video card, but thats why you have the nice 144hz monitor. Now to ask yourself... what res do you want to be playing at and do you really need 144 hertz. Competitive games like CS:GO your going to need to 144 hertz because of how smooth everything is and how much it really will effect you. but if you know your not playing games like CS:GO and you know your not gonna be getting a super high fps, then i would say get a nice 1440x2160 or 4k (depending on what video card you have and if you can run it). If you know your gonna use 144 hertz,

http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-P2415Q-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B00PC9HFNY
it will either be about 390 dollors for the 24 inch, or about 490 for the 27 inch. Do some research yourself and see what would suit you better, 24 or 27 inches.

and thats only if your photo editing and doing that kind of stuff. unless your doing that then i would say stick to 1440x2160

TVs v/s Monitors is the question now, since I see quite some affordable 32 inchers (TVs) with vibrant colors available around.

I guess my question's going to repeat: TVs, any good? What could be the limitations? I got these from above posts: response time (and refresh rate).

ASUS VG248QE, although being TN and not IPS, is something I found good value on [Amazon.com at 249 USD] (http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VG248QE-24-inch-Ergonomic-Back-lit/dp/B00B2HH7G0) (and sad part, it's whopping 70% more expensive in my country, at around 425 USD :( )

Any good IPS displays you've had good experience with or that you could recommend?

u/Sumo148 · 2 pointsr/RocketLeague

If you're looking into getting a 144hz monitor, you first need to make sure your machine can output fps higher than 144 consistently at the graphic settings you play at. You can turn on a fps counter in Steam. Make sure the fps isn't limited in Rocket League settings.

Most 144hz monitors cost +$200. You also can't use HDMI to take advantage of the higher refresh rate, you would need a DisplayPort cable or DVI cable. A few possibilities you can check out are below:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B2HH7G0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_1ykdAb3X3PKNE

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M1DEEYP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_iykdAbF7T639T

Then make sure your display adapter properties enables the higher refresh rate on your new monitor. Test the refresh rate at https://www.testufo.com/refreshrate

Although 75hz seems pretty good at the moment. I don't know if you really need to upgrade now, but if you have the extra cash lying around that's up to you.

If you're talking about a general upgrade to improve fps or to play on higher settings, then you probably want to invest into a better graphics card. Look into a gtx 970 or gtx 1060 (or if AMD rx 480 or rx 580). A 1070 or 1080 is probably overkill for 1080p gaming. Those graphic cards have the power to support higher monitor resolutions like 4K. I would ask your friend for advice first since he's the person that made the computer for you so they know what's compatible and what's best for your build.

I feel like in order to play on a 144hz monitor at least on max settings with Rocket League you would at least need at gtx 1060. Your gtx 560 probably isn't powerful enough to utilize a higher refresh rate monitor like 144hz.

Also make sure your power supply unit has enough wattage to power all your new upgrades. You seriously don't want to skimp out on a cheap PSU because those can blow up and cause fires destroying your PC (or worse your house).

Overall you're probably looking at $300-500 if you're going to buy a new graphics card with a 144hz monitor, depending on if you can find good deals or if you buy new.

u/zouxlol · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I have a 1070 and I can fully utilize my 144hz/1080p monitors.

Definitely true. 60hz looks stuttery to me now but I never noticed it until I had 144hz in my hands.

I'm not partial to asus it just seems they are the best deals in monitors.

Determining the difference in Asus 1 and 2 as there is only a 5 dollar difference:

Asus 2

And then in these next 2 is the only difference screen size?

They both seem to follow the same specs. In which I would just go for Asus 3.

144hz monitors are awesome. However, they're also pricey, and the improved smoothness might not be worth the $230+ pricetag, unless you're receiving it as a gift.

Here's the order in which you should upgrade, if you want your game to feel smooth and responsive:

  • If your mouse's polling rate is less than 1000hz, upgrade that first. It's the cheapest, and will drastically improve how everything feels. You can get a kickass mouse for just $45. I recommend the Logitech G303.

  • If you can't consistently run Overwatch at 80+ fps on lowest settings, upgrade your GPU first. Since we're speaking in terms of budget, you'll want to go with AMD. AMD cards are cheaper than their equivalent NVIDIA cards, but kinda choke on certain games with NVIDIA technologies in them.

  • If you still have money left over, or have already done the above things, get a new monitor. The one I chose is this.

The monitor will definitely give you an advantage, and make your overall computing experience smoother and more responsive. But with the pricetag, you might want to consider other upgrade first.

If your budget is up to $250 that ASUS monitor supports up to 144Hz so if you are playing more competitive/eSports type games they will be much smoother if your GPU is capable.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236722&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Is similar to the first option, but offer FreeSync, if you are using an AMD video card. Also just a little be more expensive and may be out of your budget.

https://smile.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VX2757-MHD-DisplayPort-FreeSync-Technology/dp/B01A0ZRRCI?ie=UTF8&tag=pcpapi-20

Two options from ViewSonic 24" for $160 and 27" for $220. Both are 1080p so be aware that the larger screen isn't higher resolution. This doesn't make a huge difference in gaming, IMO, but windows and text in a browser might seem larger than typical if used to a 24" 1080p monitor.

Both support FreeSync and go up to 75Hz. Obviously not as high as 120 or 144, but its still a noticeably and welcome improvement to 60Hz.

https://smile.amazon.com/AOC-G2460PF-24-Inch-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B01BV1XBEI?ie=UTF8&tag=pcpapi-20

Final option here, AOC 24" 1080p with FreeSync and refresh rates up to 144Hz. If refresh rate is a high priority this is the most affordable option to get the highest refresh rates available today. It also comes with a pretty robust stand that allows it to be raise quite high, and rotated vertically. Seems to hit all the features for a great price and reviews seem to be quite favorable.

Coming from 1450 hours in CS:GO, solid gear is a great investment.

You absolutely will not regret getting a Zowie mouse. I've used one for the last 500 hours of CS:GO (EC2-A) and it is great. The mouse is light, has solid profile key placement, perfect sensor and plug and play ready. It is the essence of a perfect FPS mouse. All the features you need, none of the stuff you don't. If/When this mouse dies I'm going back to get another. Something to note about Zowie, each of their mice use the exact same components (buttons, switches, sensors) the only difference is the shell.

A large mouse pad is also great. If you want something on a budget take a look at these. I recommend at a minimum, the XL Heavy. I myself have the Extended at work and the XXXL at home for gaming. The large surface allows for lowering your sens to get finer aiming capability (important for CS:GO Headshots, can do without it in OW)

For monitors, I have witnessed 144hz gaming and can confirm that nothing is smoother. If your PC can get 144FPS in OW then it isn't a bad investment. Look at this or this if you want quality well priced panels. When it was time for a new monitor I opted for 21:9 Ultrawide with 75hz refresh and have no regrets. The games I've played on this monitor are great experiences and I believe 21:9 panels are 100% the best you can buy. When 21:9 is available in 144hz and 1440p I'll buy day one. Until then I wait.

EDIT: a few people recommend steelseries mouse pads. I've had some and didn't care for them too much for the price they're at. The "generic" one I have and recommended are great for the price and have held up extremely well over the last 18+ months I've had them. MIONIX mice are also top quality and from what I remember, they actually come out of the same manufacturing plant that Zowie mice do. I didn't mention a keyboard b/c I believe there are better places you should put your money first (Mouse, Mouse Mat, Display, then a keyboard). If you want to get a mech kb, cooler master has some good entry options. I have their CM Storm Quickfire and it's been great. Keep the audio you have now, sound isn't as vital as it is in CS:GO but if they were to die out on you, look for some quality headphones that don't have a "gaming" label.

u/R-A-S-0 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Honestly, that's not a bad monitor. I don't think you'd see much of a visual improvement with any modern 1080p monitor.

120-144hz is always a worthwhile upgrade in my opinion, especially in games like CSGO and DOTA2. Something like this Asus would do the job nicely.

I would stay at 1080p as your system will have a hard time running most games at a higher resolution.

Edit: I totally forgot about Freesync! If you get a new monitor, definitely get one with Freesync; I use G-Sync on a daily basis and it's amazing. This looks to be a good one

u/mjak2008 · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme

That's a great build longhornarch and I appreciate your reply but I wondering isn't the monitor way too expensive in this build? I mean I could get a cheaper one and use the rest of the funds to say have a faster ram. Maybe even upgrade the processor to i7.

This monitor was mentioned in the top 10 monitors of 2016:

It's here on number 3:

In that price range I would look at 144hz monitors if you have a system that can push that many frames in the games you play. If you have a shop nearby where you can see some in action I would encourage you to stop by and have a look. Personally I find that the visual quality gained with pushing 90+fps to be vastly superior to pushing higher (more than 1080p) resolutions. Take a look at something like the Viewsonic XG2701 or Asus VG248QE.

u/ffaorlandu · 2 pointsr/wow

In case anyone cares, the reasoning behind the 60 FPS limit is due to your monitor's refresh rate. The amount of times the screen refreshes (draws a new picture on the screen) is measured in hertz (hz). Most monitors are 60hz meaning they refresh 60 times per second. Your computer may be producing 200 frames per second but your monitor doesn't display them all. Sometimes part of 1 frame and part of the next frame are shown together and cause screen tearing. Limiting your FPS in game to 60 FPS will help eliminate this effect. VSYNC accomplishes this by matching the FPS of your game to the refresh rate of the monitor. This can cause input lag and is generally bad for fast paced games, especially first person shooters. This can have minor effects on WoW during PVP or raiding where movement and reactions need to be quick but in general it's not that big of a deal. The best way is to arbitrarily set your max FPS either through the slider on the in game menu or with the command "/console maxfps 60". If you want to properly use your beefy video card running WoW at 100+ FPS, then get a higher refresh rate monitor. Usually 120hz but the Asus 24" 144hz monitor is $269 US. I own one and highly recommend it for anyone that plays PC games. If you really want to utilize the full potential of 120hz and 144hz monitors, then you'll want to check out Blurbusters which activates the full refresh rate of your 120hz monitor.

u/thirdeyeblindmelon · 2 pointsr/DetroitRedWings

I have two 24 inch 1080p 144hz monitors. I like 1080p because it's easier for the 1070 to hit 144fps in almost all games I play. Witcher 3 is probably the most demanding game I play and I get anywhere from 70-100+ fps with ultra settings. The 1070 is perfect for 1080p144fps, but if the extra fps doesn't really matter to you, it's pretty good for 1440p60fps too.

Since you've already got your answer on refresh rate, this monitor has been fantastic for me. It's just a little over $250 at the moment.

ASUS VG248QE 24" Full HD 1920x1080 144Hz 1ms HDMI Gaming Monitor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B2HH7G0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_qOj2AbWHEN4Y7

Note that I haven't done any research on newer monitors or pricing so make sure to still do that on your own, but I've had two of these since late 2015 and they've been great. As most TN panels though, the colors aren't going to be perfect like an IPS, but at the time of purchase it was the best best for a 1ms response monitor at 144hz. Pretty sure there are IPS panels these days that get pretty close to that, so if you care about accurate color representation you may want to go that route.

It depends on what kinds of games you are looking to play. Games like CSGO where your computer will definitely run at more than 144 frames it's completely worth it. Other more intensive games where your computer can't get 144 frames, it's not worth it anymore. I have this monitor and I can completely recommend it.

I'm looking for some advice on monitors, and basically have a stupid question. I am thinking of getting something like this and another cheaper monitor of the same size, so they match up evenly on my desk. Looking on newegg, I can't find any info on the height of stands, so even if I do get a 24 in, one may be higher than the other because they have different stands. Anyone have some advice on a two monitor setup or some models that work well together?

u/that_guy_29 · 1 pointr/buildapc
  1. I have the 290x with 8GB VRAM, and the only fans I have running are 3 case fans, the 3 card fans, and an aftermarket CPU fan(which doesn't really count). It runs quietly and hasn't overheated. My temps have been fine.

  2. Dual monitors require a good GPU. You don't need to go overkill, but the 290 should definitely be fine. I'm sure Google will tell you if you can handle more than one monitor, if you still aren't sure.

  3. It depends on the old monitor. If it's not an old monitor it should be fine (mine is actually a 32" Sony Bravia TV with 60 Hz and full 1080p display. That's nothing special for gaming, but it's the standard nowadays). If you want a new one, look at one like this one:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00B2HH7G0/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/187-6623318-3232867?tag=blurbust-20#productDescription_secondary_view_pageState_1426020278067
Find something with specs like these. 144Hz refresh rate, LED, full HD, anything like this if you don't want to spend too much but you want something nice.
u/Eddie_Ice · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Overall i would say that u should shell out for both but it all depends on what kind of games you play. What type of budget are we talking? I would reccomend this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00B2HH7G0/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1427315456&sr=8-2&keywords=144hz+monitor&dpPl=1&dpID=41lkIdf1gCL&ref=plSrch&pi=AC_SY200_QL40

Id go with that one or this one if you want a name brand and super good specs: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2HH7G0/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Neither really has the bezel I'd want for multi-monitor but you could look into removing them entirely.

u/GamersComm · 1 pointr/battlefield_4

Since the beta was not very optimized, it jumped anywhere from 30fps to 100fps. I love the monitor, it is cheaper then the Benq as well. Amazon has it right now for $266.99 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2HH7G0/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d2_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=1HGNCY2HFD1S5ZN5WEDA&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1630072182&pf_rd_i=507846

If looking to play FPS with surround/eyefinity, 120hz is definitely worth it. Especially if you get a the lightboost capable monitors.

As for particular models, the Asus VG248QE is generally regarded tops among the 24" 120hz monitors based on price+performance ($250 on Amazon).

The 24" ASUS VG248QE for a 24 in. I don't think that you have to overclock to get the 120 Hz or 144 Hz.

On the other hand, the QNIX QX2710 LED Evolution II is on a very good deal right now. It's a 27" with a PLS panel and 2560x1440 resolution. I don't know much about this product, but I read somewhere that if you overclock this to 120 Hz, it does truly run at 120 Hz, but it does have motion blur in twitch-gaming (RTS games should be fine, though). Keep in mind that it is Korean monitor, and I do not know how Korean-monitor distributors handle returns. I suggest that you should look up more about this product before you buy it.

This monitor does 144Hz natively, and is usually touted as the best budget 144Hz monitor for the price point. There are other brands like BenQ with a reputation of being tournament standard monitors for games like CS:GO, but honestly I don't think anyone's been critical of what this monitor does.

I don't have personal experience with this model, but I do own a 60Hz monitor from ASUS that has served me very well for a good 4 or so years.

And check out the link Poison posted.

So uh.. Yeah. I'm a noob. Kind of did some changes.. Changed the monitor to a 144Hz for that juicy CS:GO gameplay, got a far more aesthetically pleasing case, which also comes with 4 fans, as opposed to 2. They don't have the fancy lighting though, so I added a good red LED strip. As for the peripherals, I only need a keyboard, and my good friends over at /r/MechanicalKeyboards hooked me up with one of the best currently available on the market! Again, sorry for all the fuss, I don't mean to say you did a bad job recommending just idk I really care about looks and it drives me crazy if things don't look right to me.

Only compatibility issue that was given was this:

"The NZXT H440 (Matte Black/Red) ATX Mid Tower Case supports video cards up to 406mm long, but video cards over 294mm may block drive bays. Since the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Windforce OC Video Card is 298mm long, some drive bays may not be usable."

From this I gather that I just barely won't be able to use one of the drive bays, which shouldn't be a problem at all.

Sorry again! And thanks again! Uggh

Edit: These are all of the right parts, correct? Just want to make sure because it's 6 am and I haven't gone to sleep yet.

I am looking for the best graphics card for these monitors. I'm not that worried about cost, i'm searching for the best for these monitors because i love them and want to get the most out of them. thanks!

u/rodaphilia · 1 pointr/Monitors

I picked this up when it was on sale for $219, best price I've seen for 144hz/1ms response time.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2HH7G0/ref=shptrk_scth

Benq also makes a great competing monitor, at 144hz/1ms just a little more expensive (a lot, if you could've gotten in when the Asus was $219), called the XL2420t. I think those round out the cheapest options, unless you're willing to go korean.

u/Thrasivulas · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I think 4k and 144hz is a year or two away but there is an Asus monitor running at 1400p and 144hz http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00B2HH7G0/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1415290482&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40 and also most new led tvs are 4k 120 hz pretty expensive though

u/Rbrown3356 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Now this is at the top end of your budget but it's what I use and it's a great monitor. Have had zero issues at all with it.

u/JetEnduro · 1 pointr/buildapc

I like to play my games on max settings whenever i can. Some games are starting to slow down like resident evil 2 and the like. This is the monitor I have

u/Blackout420 · 1 pointr/PS4

I think it would be okay, but you also have to remember that, unless you have the new PS4 pro controller that gets rid of input lag by plugging into the PS4, the Bluetooth connection causes addition input lag.

If I can make a recommendation, I would look at this one, if funds are an issue

This is the one that I have for my PC, but I plug my PS4 up if I'm playing a competitive game like Rocket league/2k/For Honor/FPS

I love my monitor and it makes an undeniable difference in ultra competitive games like Rocket League or 2k where there is a significant amount of input lag.

Another main difference is that the one I have has a refresh rate of 144 hz and unless you have a PC you would use it for those extra 84hz won't make a difference since PS4 games can't go over 60 fps. It will make the game smoother, but you won't get any extra frames, which is why the first monitor I linked would be better for console usage exclusively.

u/IAmTehMan · 1 pointr/GlobalOffensive

Either get just the mouse or just the xl2411z. Get one of them and save up for the other one. There is no point in buying a shitty monitor now.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2HH7G0/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d6_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0Q96TA5NM1N4387KBYH4&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846
This is a decent monitor too. It might be slightly cheaper than the benQ. I myself have the same benq and a deathadder and they are awesome.

u/snydaddy · 1 pointr/barstoolsports

Well since it's for gaming, make sure whatever monitor you get has a response time of 1ms and a minimum refresh rate of 144Hz. Also, I would personally recommend sticking with the standard 1920x1080 aspect ratio because it just makes things simpler. Yeah ultrawides are nice and all but it can get complicated if you're using programs like OBS. I personally use this monitor when I'm gaming and it's held up for years: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2HH7G0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have been using this monitor since February 2013 and still have zero problems with it. This is the cheapest most efficent 120+hz monitor out there. The next step up would be ips panel @ 2k or straight up 4k monitor. I also work for an amazon warehouse and the used ones listed for 224$ are usually just damaged boxes and they work fine.

Just check Amazon. You can get a basic 1080p monitor for around $100 year round and way cheaper near the holidays.

I suggest doing a bunch of research when things go on sale on Amazon, but if you don't want to, basically anything that's ASUS/Samsung in 1080p is fine.

If you're a gamer I suggest this one though, there's no going back after you've experienced a monitor this good. Had this for about a year and love it to death

You may want to take a look at this. I will be attempting my first build based on the list from the link below. Roughly $1k.. + you may want to just buy a network card in addition to the ones below, roughly $30-40. Looking at the motherboard, you still have an extra port for the network card after the GTX 1070 installation.

Hello!
I wanted to know if my NVIDIA GTX-1050 Ti could handle a 144hz monitor at 1080p and low settings for games like Overwatch, CSGO, League of Legends, etc. or if should I settle for a 75hz monitor instead?

GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti

CPU: AMD FX-8370

Monitor (the one I'm interested in): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2HH7G0/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

I highly recommend getting a 144 Hz monitor. It is painful to watch anything on a 60 Hz screen after you get used to never seeing tearing.

Not sure if this is currently the best option, but this guy was the top choice when I built my system.

u/dvorak_qwerty · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

i picked up this guy for 250USD a couple weeks back.

I like it but the color isnt great. i chose it for the 144hz, 1ms response and 24in size. i think in this price range (even though 199Blbs is like 331USD) you have to chose between excellent color or excellent speed. i think the monitors with both are in the 450-500USD range. dont know if it helps you in the uk, you know queen willing and all.

After some quick googling, it seems like 1060 isn't enough to power a 1440p @ 144hz. So if you cant even hit 144fps no point in getting 144hz.

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3278370/gtx-1060-1440p.html

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3571963/1440p-gsync-1080p-gsync-gtx-1060.html

The Gsync on my Dell S2716DG is pretty nice but i feel like for me the higher refresh rate is more important since i play competitive shooters. While i cant see the higher refresh rate difference, i can feel it. If that makes any sense.

This was my previous monitor and i feel like this might be a better fit for your 1060.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B2HH7G0/?tag=pcpapi-20 Is that a good choice? Maybe a Benq that's 1080p and 144hz for like 300?

u/Lobo64 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Toms hardware makes builds every quarter. Of the three builds my guess would be that either the Budget or the Enthusiast build would be apropriate for you. so somewhere between $700 and $1300 for the pc itself and then another $300 or so for a 144hz monitor.
Toms hardware covers what you can expect from the different builds in terms of performance, prepping for the future is difficult but even the $700 should do fine for most things for a while.

u/Parasthesia · 1 pointr/buildapc

Depends on what kind of games and GPU power you're investing. Mine was a debate between 1440p 60hz and 1080p 144hz. I eventually got this one (asus, 144hz) http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VG248QE-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0

I values the fps more and smoother frames, and since I bought a Msi 970 I'm glad I didn't risk the higher resolution.

u/Ritz527 · 1 pointr/buildapc

This Dell U2412M LED Monitor is a common and reliable choice.

I'd go for something like the ASUS VG248QE monitor with NVIDIA 3D though.

I'm not sure about the Dell but the ASUS monitor comes with a 3 year warranty.

u/karmapopsicle · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

It's a 144Hz panel though! Some people say the difference is night and day, especially for FPS games. You might want to look into how much shipping it from the US would cost, as it's $220 cheaper.

I think the single WC 770 for now is going to be a solid plan, especially if we're setting you up to add a second one. Of course there's also the SLI 760 option. Not sure why I hadn't considered it before, but for $300 (~40% less cost) you're getting 85% of the power of a 770. We could definitely fit in two of those plus blocks from an AUS retailer, and I believe still have enough room for the rest.

So for example, if we do a rig like this, and add in this cart from thekoolroom, plus tubing and fittings of your choice, we should have exactly what you're looking for while still remaining in budget.

u/xeroslash · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I have an NZXT Phantom 630 but it's above your price and it's too expensive, thankfully I got it on sale. So if the case looks good and you've done your research on it, it should be fine for you.

I like my bigger monitor because I think I can work better/faster on it and I think it is better for gaming. I would highly recommend putting a little bit more in your monitor and go with this one. http://www.amazon.com/VG248QE-24-Inch-Screen-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0/

It has a higher refresh rate at 144hz and it is bigger at 24 inches and it's not terribly expensive. Plus it always has the option for 3d if you eve r wanted to get into that, so this is a great choice if you don't want to go up to 27, but still want a great monitor.

No you really are not. You are comparing a rather low end TV to a Rather High End Monitor.

The game only runs at 60 frames but the 144hz will make animations visually smoother. There is a significant difference between 60hz and 144hz even if the game is only running at 60 frames.

There are better monitors, but they are far more expensive and I've read articles stating that monitors with g-sync, etc can effect input delay timings which would result in needing to time buttons differently once at the tournament. I recommend you play around 10 matches before you start your tournament match to get a feel for the monitor and setup.

Plus the $200 less price tag looks nice. Could probably do alot better, but im just looking for a little less than $450

u/T_Fouts · 1 pointr/buildapc

No worries, I figured it would be good if I explained my reasoning for the part choice. In my opinion, if you have the money to spend, 144hz is definitely worth the investment. The 144hz experience is very smooth and fast. Hz refers to refresh rate, or the number of times the screen changes per second. Thus, 144hz will be faster, smoother, and better all around. They are a bit more expensive then your average 60hz though. The two 144hz monitors I'd personally recommend are the [Asus VG248QE] (https://www.amazon.com/VG248QE-1920x1080-144Hz-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1479966681&sr=1-1&keywords=asus+vg248qe) and the [BenQ XL2411Z] (https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-24-Inch-Tournaments-Professional-XL2411/dp/B01H5KKQTM/ref=dp_ob_title_ce). Both are fantastic monitors however the BenQ monitor come with more features which can be found on their website. In conclusion, yes, I would say that purchasing a 144hz monitor is very worth it if you have the money to spend.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

It's a little out of your price range, but for $240 you can get this beast of a monitor. I have 2 and they're amazing.

u/NAHHHBRO · 1 pointr/buildapc

Always see this. You get a fantastic graphics card and then don't get a display to go along with it. Go ahead and get the 680 or a 770, as was already mentioned, but for the love of all that is holy get a monitor than can make use of good GPU technology.

Asus VG249QE great monitor. I'm using one right now. 144 hz, 3D enabled, 1 ms response time (gtg). Its great.

Korean IPS is also a great option. 1440p, 27" screen, overclockable to 100 hz. Check out this before you buy anything.

I'm not saying the monitor you picked was bad but you are building a great machine.. why not make your link between the hardware and your experience as good as the equipment you are putting in there? Makes sense doesn't it.

If you're a student you can get windows 8 for free or cheap. Check your campus IT website or go to Microsoft's website because they offer deals like this. Or find a student and give him 20 bucks or a case of beer to get you a serial key. Takes them like 5 seconds.

I strongly discourage a microatx motherboard. They aren't as efficient as mid atx mobo's because they dissipate heat less efficiently.

Why get an aftermarket cpu cooler. You are getting the non 'k' version of your cpu, so you can't overclock it and thus the stock cooler that comes with intel cpu's will be more than enough.

Good choice on the PSU and SSD. The case is nice as well.

Final note. Don't get that ram. It's 1333 and theres no point in not spending the extra 10 bucks to get ddr3 1600 ram. Get this or approved equivalent.

Any questions, feel free to ask.
