If you're fine with a 13'', maybe consider the LG Gram 13 for $900. It weighs in at just 2.07 lbs and has incredibly thin bezels that make it portable. It also has pretty solid specs that will work fine for LoL and other similar games including a Kaby Lake i5 processor, 8gb of ram, 256gb SSD and HD 620 graphics. It also has a pretty good IPS display which allows for 90% sRGB and would work well for photo editing. Finally, it's battery is advertised up to 16 hours.
A 15.6'' option would be the Asus Vivobook S for $800. It weighs in at just 3.7 lbs and also has some pretty thin bezels considering its size. It has a bit better specs with a Kaby Lake i7 processor, 8gb of ram, 1TB HDD + 128gb SSD and HD 620 graphics. It also has a 1080p TN display (I believe it's TN but can't tell for sure - no reviews on the quality of the display as this laptop is brand new on the market). Also no word on the battery, but I believe it's a 42Wh battery which should last around 5 or 6 hours of light use considering it has a dual core processor.
The laptop i have is the Asus VivoBook 15.6” Full HD Laptop, I purchased it off amazon in July 2017 for around $800. Still using it and it’s held up quite well! It has Intel i7-7500U 2.7 GHz, 8GB RAM, and for storage has a 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD.

It appears they have a newer model
If you need a good laptop, it will have a dedicated GPU. What I mean to say is that its too hard to find well built laptop without dedicated graphics.

Currently looking at this... I dunno if that i7 is actually any good, though? I like the idea of a small M.2 SSD.

I like the look of that Lenovo Yoga.
What do you think about the Asus Vivobook S. it's pretty lightweight and comes with a duo core i7.

Thanks for the link. Just came across the Vivobook S, which comes without the 1050. Going to share that one with her.
If you want something just powerful enough for this usage then I would recommend ASUS VivoBook S because it comes with everything you need, i7 dual core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 128GB for faster boot up and loading, 1 TB of HDD for storage, Full HD TNscreen with wide viewing angles which is good to have for this price range, high build quality, Good battery life, and it is within your budget.
If you want to get the best specs your budget can get you then I would recommend this Lenovo Legion Y520 because it comes with everything you need, i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 128GB for faster boot up and loading, 1 TB of HDD for storage, Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, Good battery life, very good heat management, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti GPU that should be able to handle the work you are going to do on it and most games on medium to high settings with very good FPs, and it is within your budget.
I do actually need a laptop just because I need that portability, but after doing my research I found this ASUS laptop that is very well priced for the specs. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0721Y4BKP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_HZqdAbQ5S6GKJ
The speakers are a great help though, as I was wondering why I would need those versus some good headphones. It's interesting that you mention killing someone's ears because that has actually been my process. I make the track first with apple headphones and make it sound like how songs usually sound on those, and then I get my better headphones and actually fine tune everything on those. I will be getting those speakers or the Mackie cr3s. Thank you!
She's trying to decide between the Acer Swift 3 you suggested and the Asus VivoBook S that I found in this thread. What's your opinion on this? The specs look similar but with an i7 and half the SSD. I've read the heat management isn't great however but not sure if that would be a big issue or not.
