The ASUS ZenBook Ultra-Slim Laptop would be an amazing choice because it fits every thing that you need. Its light, durable, great battery life and a great display quality.

You could also check out this ASUS VivoBook S Thin & Light Laptop which has a dedicated gpu for light to moderate gaming.

Asus Vivobook S14 i7 + MX150 is the fastest laptop I know of in this price range.

https://www.amazon.com/VivoBook-i7-8550U-GeForce-NanoEdge-Display/dp/B07B7VFTN9/

14" FHD, Intel Core i7-8550U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, GeForce MX150, NanoEdge Display, Backlit Kbd, FP Sensor

Weight : 1.45 kgs (3.2 pounds)

Note : This is the recommendation since you want something thin and light. If that's not the case then gaming laptops will serve you much better. But they're usually thick and definitely not light at this price range.

u/legos45 · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Hi,

If you want to stick with ASUS, I would recommend the ASUS Vivobook S410UN, it is the closest fit I could find for you. It has a dedicated graphics card, the MX150 graphics card, which should be fine for lighter games like indies, but more demanding titles might be hard. You can try lowering resolution and lowering the settings for more demanding games. Other wise, it is fine for the uses you listed, mainly general is the main use for this Vivobook.

u/Fierrero86 · 3 pointsr/argentina

Algo asi

"I would recommend this ASUS VivoBook S because it comes with everything you need, i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in your budget and great for your usage, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading,Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, long battery life, Mx 150 GPU that should be able to handle the games you mentioned on medium to high settings with very good FPs, and it is within your budget.

For more options you could check My list with cool emoji for Best and most recommended laptops for gaming and college."

u/ChewbaccaBreath · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

ASUS Vivobook? $800 there's a cheaper option too but it has an i7, 8gb DDR4 ram, 1080p screen, backlit keyboard and an SSD. Im assuming you mean you want something that's going to last 5 years and just gonna break it to you eventually the battery's going to need replacing at least as soon as you get a laptop the battery is dying. This should do everything you want and more but if you wanna save money maybe this Vivobook, don't buy the version with an SSD though you could easily add one for way cheaper.

u/elvinelmo · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

You have a better budget than you think. $1000 can get a very good laptop for your needs. If you want to stick to the ASUS line that you have been looking at so far the ASUS VivoBook S would be a decent laptop to consider as it has a low power graphics card that will be able to run less intensive games well. Its build it not as good as the Zenbook like but it does have more power for less. The keyboard is comfortable to use IMO but that is something that is subjective.

  • 14" FHD, Intel Core i7-8550U,
  • 8GB RAM,
  • 256GB SSD,
  • GeForce MX150,
  • NanoEdge Display, Backlit Kbd, FP Sensor

As an alternative, you could consider the Acer Swift 3 which has a better build quality but its display is dim when it is used in direct sunlight
u/Dan6erbond · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Sounds like you need a MX150 and an i7 and at 1'200$ you'll be able to find some great systems with specs better than what I recommend:

  • Asus ZenBook Flip (yes, it has a touchsceen, but it also has the specs and size requirements...)
  • Dell Inspiron 5000
  • Asus VivoBook S
  • Asus VivoBook S
  • Asus VivoBook

Obviously, the GTX1050 will outperform the MX150 and the more RAM the system has - the better as you're going to be editing videos and if you need the storage, make sure the system has an HDD. All of them have an i7, so on the side of the processor you should be fine. I gave you a few options so you can pick based on price and requirements.
u/BestBeating · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I would check this Asus Vivobook S14 (with dedicated MX150 graphics card), its stylish, light-weight laptop with the right mix of specifications and price.

Pros

  • Relatively light
  • Anti-glare display
  • Good performance
  • Competitive pricing

    Cons

  • Lid wobbles easily
  • Keyboard flexes under pressure

    More details

If you want to spend all your budget, check Asus Zenbook it has better build quality, but it comes with 8th gen i5 processor (S14 has 8th gen i7).
u/TRDJr · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I have had good luck with ASUS laptops. I think that they tend to give you that extra bit of quality for the price.

If I were you I would look into the Vivobook line or the ZenBook line. Vivobooks tend to have the best price/performance/build quality whereas the ZenBooks usually don't have a dedicated graphics chip but are thinner, lighter, higher build quality and have better battery life.

This laptop

ASUS VivoBook S Thin & Light Laptop, 14" FHD, Intel Core i7-8550U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, GeForce MX150, NanoEdge Display, Backlit Kbd, FP Sensor - S410UN-NS74 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B7VFTN9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_NG.ZBbXGT81ED

Gives you a 14 inch screen in a 13 inch form factor with a dedicated graphics chip so that you can run a few of the lighter games and do more multimedia work

This laptop

ASUS ZenBook Ultra-Slim Laptop - 14” FHD IPS WideView Display, Intel Core i7-8550U CPU, 8GB DDR4, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD, Windows 10, Backlit keyboard, 3.1lbs, Quartz Grey - UX410UA-AS74 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079TBQ4H4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_YO.ZBb3WFNXMZ

Has a better screen and battery life, but no dedicated graphics chip. Probably a higher build quality too but I can't speak to that first hand. It's also a tad pricier.

I have a ZenBook that I have been using for 3 years now and it is still as good as new. I bought it at the time because it was the most macbook-like machine that didn't cost a fortune.

u/Corval3nt · 2 pointsr/UCSantaBarbara

IMO, I would definitely not get that laptop unless you would want to run games with very low settings and still hit a poor fps score. It only uses Intel's integrated graphics card and only stands up to very light titles and general windows usage.

At $800, it would be hard to balance between the portability and battery life versus the gaming performance you want. Are you planning to use your laptop to take notes on? Or are you more of the type to like physically writing down notes to review later? If you don't mind giving up a bit on battery life and portability, you can try to grab something with a 1060 gpu in it for much better gaming performance. It's a shame that you asked this literally a day right after Intel's Gamer Day sales ended, otherwise I would have suggested if you could push the budget a bit for Acer's Predator Helios 300 model from last year. If you want still, you can get a certified refurbished one for $800 on eBay ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/Acer-Predator-Helios-300-Intel-i7-8750H-16GB-Ram-256GB-SSD-W10H-NH-Q3FAA-001/254049080476?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item3b2681549c:g:QNMAAOSwqaNcvf4v&enc=AQAEAAAB4BPxNw%2BVj6nta7CKEs3N0qXuA3M7IxeHPxPU0iOMfihz50e%2F5Hu6C2kPupUGV%2B1pulLkRAYsBPHHzygOZeX8bWDJZnSlMPLu36huncMtpn%2BI7%2FsqJIAtmZvVRhhx8Ae%2Fd2wehotTNC8WELYhV%2FEejvdSed95F9y6rr%2FoXoDCn4QLK4nwhD%2B%2F0u%2F0BM0flXxCm7iJT%2FH%2FXDLIMUJmvrUq1UWEF2gXqcx8%2BWhdrKffEXPnF1uGjBCOtyoH326iUyD0PypzJshEoLoHWaJIix71iECnDKgtC9TssKPurjVQRDUCbbA%2Fg2DtRe%2Bp7AoRU2h0h1zXzMzZ7oXGNn429GXCCkfRHWs3EoJXNNlx%2F0fLITqORvEUfGfd6znre6xPHX9RIpOuCqQ5etKijUAuhKecjEEUVVA7oVrkHSxrkI2wzNvyMKKgQ%2Bl1rhYBt44Xf5KC%2FFj7TpcHTWtbk263IzqM7wFuX54opy3OFjx2FrOCG%2B455%2FNijYwjG%2BDkSel37TRAbFLhE2v4zuxv7BXbEDQWzhLIvC7TMsXqoSsp6jsEc54JhQN1846fMLwqtJtuNhrBlPKIW4u5rQ5cM3O5ptXidbh1uOPYFz2FbfjlTCoZ%2Bhu1Qd14QKGoCO0yrkCSy6UAgw%3D%3D&checksum=254049080476b1c787bfe3ca4291894e764b60b8ccf2 ) (Wow, that is a long link). At this price point, if you don't mind the little bit more gamery top lid, nothing for gaming comes close to it at this price point.

If you want something with a bit more portability to it and design, you'll have to drop down to a 1050 or mx150 for gpu. You'll see longer battery life, but your gaming performance will take a fair hit. If you want something more portable, go for a MX150 option like https://www.amazon.com/VivoBook-i7-8550U-GeForce-NanoEdge-Display/dp/B07B7VFTN9/ref=sxin_7_ac_d_rm?ac_md=2-2-bXgxNTAgbGFwdG9w-ac_d_rm&keywords=1050%2Blaptop&pd_rd_i=B07B7VFTN9&pd_rd_r=79541585-e1f2-4211-9b5e-4d8ecf298f03&pd_rd_w=aV7ij&pd_rd_wg=6SJDJ&pf_rd_p=d29bc9bc-49e2-46b8-bc05-387917c341ec&pf_rd_r=23EHCWG183SCVY1NW4RE&qid=1568016931&s=gateway&th=1 . For a 1050 option, everything looks to be of similar bulk at this price point so I would still go with the acer predator on the eBay link above.

u/ooojustin · 2 pointsr/laptops

avoid getting a gaming laptop if you'll be using it for school. you'll make sacrifices on portability and battery life. for games like csgo and rocket league an mx150 is sufficient, and there are plenty of ultrabooks that have one.

This laptop would be great. The i7 8550U is one of the higher end CPUs for laptops, allowing ease in tasks such as video editing, picture editing, and coding. The 256GB SSD is more than enough for basic tasks, and GIMP, not to mention, bootup times, and loading times for anything stored on this laptop will be quicker than most other laptops, simply because of the SSD.

With the Black Friday sales underway. For $800 it is actually possible to purchase a laptop with a GTX 1060 to play games with. But it will look like a gaming laptop and will be rather big and heavy.

For a laptop that is relatively thin and light and does not look like a gaming laptop for $800, you definitely need to give up some performance to achieve that. The following 14" Asus Vivobook S S410UN-NS74 for $800 (not on sale) probably best fits what you are looking for.

https://www.amazon.com/VivoBook-i7-8550U-GeForce-NanoEdge-Display/dp/B07B7VFTN9/ref=sr_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1541515381&sr=1-8&keywords=mx150+laptop

It has a low voltage quad core i7-8550u CPU which can burst up to 4.0GHz. I say "burst" because this is a "u" model CPU with limited cooling so it can only burst up to 4.0GHz when it is cool enough to do so. However, sustained max speed would probably be around 2.7Gz to 3.0GHz simply due to thermal limitations.

The nVidia mx150 should be fine for EU4 since it is a 2013 game and one of the recommended GPU is the Radeon X1900; a high performance GPU from 2006. The nVidia mx150's performance is roughly between the previous generation nVidia GTX 950m and GTX 960m "entry level" gaming GPUs. The mx150 is considered to be just a "mainstream" GPU but it should be much more powerful than the old X1900 GPU. Currently the GTX 1050 is considered the "entry level" GPU which I believe is between the performance of the GTX 960m and GTX 965m. Click following link for more info about the mx150 and some game benchmarks.

Thin bezels around the screen makes this laptop pretty small; similar in size to a typical 13.3" laptop and at least according the specs listed at Amazon, it weighs in at 3.2lbs. The cover is aluminum, but the bottom half of the laptop is plastic. If you want a full aluminum chassis, then you need to increase your budget for a more "premium" laptop.

u/yityit2000 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Looks like I can shave off half a pound with this guy and have the same specs. Is it accurate that it would perform the same if I'm fine with the smaller screen? I'm seeing same specs and it looks like same type of build as well, other than a 1TB HDD which I'm also fine without.

I have been using this with an extra 8 gb of RAM for the past few months. It's been doing pretty well however it does get bogged down on big AE projects. It's also limited to one external monitor. But it was a pretty decent deal for a discreet graphic card.

Hello, for about $800 you can get the -> ASUS VivoBook S.

  • Latest 8th gen Core i7-8550U
  • 8GB RAM
  • 256GB SSD
  • GeForce MX150
  • 14" FHD NanoEdge Display
  • Backlit Keyboard
  • Finger Print Sensor

It is thin and light (3.2 pounds) and the battery will last about 7 hours on normal usage. The dedicated GPU is a plus as it will aid when doing 3D modelling. Best is to check it out at your local stores and see if it works for you. Good luck!

Something that would have an dedicated GPU. Think you can look at some Asus models around 600-800 price range, you should get atleast 2GB GPU. Also make sure it has atleast SSD, not worth settling for less for that price tag. And personally i would recommend that it should have atleast i5 CPU. I wouldnt recommend taking any ryzens - they overheat too much. For example something modern, light and decent spec (i bought something similiar for my mother-in-law who loves to play age of mythology/empires and honestly it is far better than a $1200 HP Envy):
