Meh, already found an upgraded IPS display on Amazon.

The screen Dell includes is pretty trash to begin with so i might as well use this as an opportunity

To be fair the MBA's display is a bit higher quality when it comes to contrast and viewing angles than the one in the Acer. Still TN, and still lame color gamut, just a better TN. But I think the Macbook Air is long due for an update that ups its display (esp. that lame 45% NTSC color gamut).

And $350 is steep either way. It's possible to get a cheaper 15.6-incher with 1366x768 and put in a very good IPS 1920x1080 panel for about the price difference. That replacement panel costs $72.

No the i7 isn't worth the price jump, IMO. I'd say the best deal is to get This Lenovo Y50 and use some of the extra money to upgrade the display to an IPS Panel since the stock display is pretty low quality. It's really easy to upgrade and can be done in about 5 minutes. If you need instruction, this video shows step by step.

As for warranties, I actually recommend this Squaretrade warranty. This is the one I got my dad after he spilled a cup of coffee on his last laptop.

Here you go.

I got a weird email from the vendor after I ordered it warning me that replacing a standard gamut display with a high gamut one is not recommended, but I couldn't find a technical reason why so I did it anyways and it worked fine.

I bought this one..

[Dell inspiron 5577] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XFGDD8P/ref=twister_B06XYM29GY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1)

I came with one 8gb RAM stick, so I plan on buying another, as it can support up to 32gb.

I'm also going to replace the screen as the screen on this one is not that great.
I plan to replace it with this one

I mainly bought it because I currently have a MBP, but I wanted something I could upgrade and add to, as I can't do that with my MBP. I'm pretty happy with it. I was playing last night on high settings with some basic mods and a few assets (TM:PE, Move It and RICO, for now) there wasn't any lagging or problems and the laptop barely warmed up, which I was surprised about. I don't plan on using it for much else though, I have a few other games I want to add, but since my other laptop still works, I plan on using that one for my work/docs/pics and stuff like that so this one wont get bogged down.

After looking through my options, I think I'll be going with either this eBay listing for the LG LP156WF6-SPB1 or maybe this AU OPTRONICS B156HAN01.2 Amazon listing for the 2-day Prime shipping.

Not sure if the $20 difference is worth it to buy a similar panel from Amazon, but I do feel safer buying from there.

Thanks for all the help. You saved me quite a bit of hassle with returns!

I'm going to pull the panel back out to check the actual model number, I saw a few reviews saying they got a different panel from the one advertised. I was in a hurry when I installed it, and I forgot to check the label. It looks okay to me, especially compared to the old TN panel. My other portable device is a Surface Pro 3, so I'm a bit spoiled for screen quality. It's nowhere near that nice. Vertical viewing angles are great, but horizontal is less good. Maybe 70°? No dead pixels and the backlight seems pretty even. This is the one I got:

Also, this seller ships USPS signature required, which is fine, but I would've had it shipped to work instead of my apartment if I had known that.

Just found this and was wondering how gaming on the new panel is? I just purchased this laptop bought an m.2 ssd with the 1tb hd. I'm looking to replace the panel because the screen really truly is not great.

I'll be following your guidance in replacing the screen. I wanted to confirm with you if the screen you replaced it with is this one:

Would you mind sending me the link to the video you used to do this repair? I've never replaced a laptop screen before and i'm a little nervous.
